"Been ready for head coach job forever And and that would be a guy who's turned down other opportunities turned down offers. He's had in the past looking for the right place to land as opposed to just grabbing the first thing that comes along. He's been very selective along the way so a guy that has absolute head coach. Credibility at this point could be coach already if he wasn't being selective And obviously knows the landscape in ohio. So that would it not. I necessarily expected to be here in the mix right at the end but it is a name that makes a lot of sense eric. Martin's name has been a big part of this conversation since the jump and for obvious reasons he played here. He's worked for bob huggins. Since bob took over in morgantown he has expressed a desire to be a head coach. And look bob huggins. He wrote this is is working at man. I talked to john cunningham. I know he's talked donors. He's he's working on behalf of his guy. He would generate a lot of excitement for a lot of different reasons. And i think he'd he'd bring back a lot of money to the program as well but from a basketball standpoint eliminate all that the resume. I guess the question that i think a lot of people would have is eric's going to be fifty this year. He's been a coach for the better part of two decades and yet he has never really seriously at least to the best of our knowledge. Been a serious head coaching candidate. Why not. I don't think he's really a self promoter you know i did. I did a a up and coming coaches list a couple years ago. I put him on the long before. Cincinnati came up with john. Brennan here and talking to people around the country you know who who know who are around coaches a lot who bounced around these arenas and see a lot of practices. The one thing they said about martin is a guy. Put himself out there. He's not a guy who's always going to be burning up the cell phones of media that he's not going to be trying to like work angles and stuff like that to get his name in the mix. I think he's he's a guy who's known as a stra tutor who wants to just basically let the work speak for itself behind the scenes. I know how much she valued by duggan's ins and the work he does a west virginia. It's a tough business. Sometimes i mean we all probably fall prey to it in the media. Were you know guys who are willing and talk and constantly in contact with you. Maybe those are the guys that you subconsciously. You're constantly promote along the way merges. Not that guy. From what i understand. But i think the basketball cumin kind of goes without saying. I think you know if you if you sat by bob. Huggins that long you learn by osmosis a whole lot. I think he's absolutely ready to be head coach. And the reason why he hasn't maybe just because we haven't been as aggressively marketing himself and it's sad to say that that matters but it kinda kicks kinda matter in college basketball so The question question why. it hasn't happened yet. i think is less about basketball stuff and more about like okay. Whose relationships have you worked over. The years I frankly would respect. The guy said i'm gonna let my work stanford stanford south like my trackers. Speak for yourself. That's good for your great. It's not all right. i'll live with that. You sit by. Bob huggins for fourteen years. You're gonna learn a lot of things i feel like. I feel like we could say the same things you said about eric. Martin about darren savino. Yeah it's again. I'm sorta surprised that darren city you know hasn't been a head coach at this point. I mean he's gosh he's he's done just about everything you need to do to be a head coach at this point in the fact that you know. Ucla just made the run that it did. You know i. I don't think. I don't think he earned a job solely off of that but like they had a pretty good team but adjusted really well down the stretch They should be really good again next year. It might actually be a who darren in some ways. I mean obviously cincinnati comes calling and he really wants it great like you go take it but i mean. Ucla could be a top ten top five team next year. So it would be. It would be shocking to me. If darren savino wasn't getting that happened if ucla was that good next year it'd be shocking. Parents wasn't getting that head coach job that he will take as opposed to just. Maybe you know taking it. Just because he has to just just to be a head coach he'll be. He might have his choice of select jobs next year because everybody thinks they are the bryan hamilton senior college basketball writer for the athletic which we tout all the time put together the list with just williams of cincinnati basketball coaching candidates. Brian is on twitter at underscore. Brian underscore hamilton. I know you've been busy man. I'm glad we can make this work. Thanks so much. thank you. Brian hamilton with the athletic. That is not something. I like to see quite open. The reds are winning the game to nothing. I hate to say this i. I've seen johnny cueto come off the mound in san francisco before he just gave. It looks like a guy just looks like he gave the cut it off at his throat. He's throwing sixty eight pitches and came off with. Gabe kaplan the manager and the trainer. Hopefully it's just he's done for. The day is exhausted. He's high fiving his teammates. So hopefully johnny is is okay something wrong. With his hand his right hip he struggled with that in recent years. So hopefully janis okay. Meanwhile reds are losing the game to nothing. Top the sixth-inning on getaway day in san francisco. "We see the originator. But you're also frost number four on my power rankings. Unlv eight and eleven also in the mountain west. Not also the mound cares. It's all the same. They're seventh in the mountain west. Five and seven and the reason i it's time to call them out call at the rebels is because we saw them in maui in maui north carolina And i the first glimpse of north carolina. This season That we saw him. I was ed north carolina's first game. It was north carolina. First game the first game i the first like real their first game. Unlv jumps out to a thirteen. Nothing lead they're working looking you. And i'm saying i think i am going to have to leave granted. It didn't go well after that. You didn't that moment. Time the first six minutes you saw the glimpse next day. They're playing alabama to an alabama team. That now is in going to be a two seed tier three three t indicates they are. They are up like like the first twenty six minutes. We'll say twenty five minutes. I wrote that twenty six. I went back and looked the first twenty six minutes in this game. It was like. Lv was competitive winning. I think i think the game was tied with like thirteen or fourteen minutes left and ultimately alabama ended up winning by ten or so. But the point is they're competitive with a with a team of alabama's stature and it's just been a disastrous since and it's time to call you know because i remember thinking like. Unlv might you know if you told me then fast forward. Unlv is is knocking on the door for tournament. It'd be like yeah. That makes a lotta sense from what i've seen from them so far. Maybe they put it together not the case horrible so unlv frauds. Some guys like caleb grill was the one. I was trying to look up. There was some guard on their team. Bryan hamilton. So the big Eight and eleven prods. All right number three on the fraud. Power rankings dan peters. They had chris beard just thinking about that they did. They had beard number. Three is my former college roommate. Peter's assistant coach zona and got the pauley pavilion tonight. Texted me a picture of you. And i are cardboard cutouts This was like a half an hour before tip off. And he said really with like four question marks. He felt betrayed. Actually were there. We were there tonight. Era dumbfounded every even last year after the game. We're like we're in the pauley pavilion area over them. Yes danny we're yes. We're here at the game removed from the i told daddy i'll say i said. Ucla watching a lot of ucla. This year. I know you probably haven't nam scouting you did on these guys. They have not been playing particularly well even when they win. They don't play particularly well. Obviously not a lot based on what. I thought texted a before he was like. He's like yeah we we should be okay. He didn't say they're gonna eat. It wasn't like we're gonna win. But he's like yeah you know i. I'm not worried yeah. i'm trying. I'm trying to get data too much trouble here. But he was like. We're gonna play hard. i like. I like my team. I like my teams what he said you know. And you're team sucks. We'll take your team sucks. Danny called colin me. Personally you deserve that so it. We should point out danny. During the montage for shawn miller being thrown out of the game last year. You're you're shy. You got a nice handshake and adapt up on the way out. From shaw miller's. No i'm not i. We'll talk a lot of shit about the peers. Because i know there's no world you could peop everyone listening. Could send him the link to the show and be like yo tied has killed you. He was just ripping shreds. Won't there's nothing that could have had to listen to this show. He's like okay all right moving on top to. Here's it's juicy. here's i i have. I have established a baylor and gonzaga in the fraud. power rankings. In the pac twelve number two idaho eighteen we talked about the gave up a three. The buzzer gets idaho state to to to send it to overtime. They almost had a win. They let it slip through their fingers and then tonight they were smacked by portland state. They've now dropped own eighteen They were supposed to zag by the way december fourteen. Th those two schools are kind of next to each other. 'cause idaho's on the the west part of idaho an hour and a half away. There were supposed to play this year. can you imagine. Can you imagine if that game happened. Integral wins by one hundred in my head. I see a picture of cork like chamberlain. Up on so idaho get it together. Win a game finally arizona state. They have they've had number one locked up. They're going to them. The rest of the season arizona state seventeen lost by eighteen at usc on wednesday. They have not. This will blow your mind. Eight the arizona state sun devils. This season have not won a game by double digits the entire season. they're seven to ten. None of those seven wins. Were at no point that they put it together all that talent. They have no point on one like playing garbage teams to cows of the world and no point to draw come together and they like one by fifteen They've been won by more than nine all season. I would say this bobby hurley. Going into the season he had all the hype in the world and he won the offseason he wanted. He did the the the coach k. Calipari like we get the recruits. We get the hype. We're ready to go. You think we're already from team chip. Based on that we have here and it's a total dud and it's one of those things where maybe bobby hurley has j. right you know moment of. I don't need five stars. I need four plus players guys. That are donovan. mitchell can then hopefully let them blossom into their full form. And i see that with this team you know. Obviously they have remained. Martin martin kinda gives you the brad vibes. You know. Brad davis vibes it just to is too far. We've hit peak point. We're now on the backside of the slide. You know you're not the preseason player of the year. And all the hype. I feel bad for them right. And i think bobby hurley needs a tough team. This is not that team. So the change in philosophy your number one on the fraud power. yes yeah. that's that's so. I i'll put all say this if arizona state can get a winning record a bump them down from number one you gotta you gotta get a winning record. They're seven and ten right now. So if i do if i am a team in the northeast on the east coast and i am looking for coach. You know even like georgia tech. I would call. Bobby hurley georgia. Tech's not looking for coach gallon. He got coach. I guess something speaking of speaking of programs. That might be looking for a coach. Let's talk to a guy who's going to be asked to coach a lot of teams. I have a feeling who's very much available. Yes he's doing stuff for big ten network that's why we have modern. He's a colleague of ours technically but he's also coach. His name is john. Beeline we talked to him about michigan house. All this stuff.

"And welcome back courtside here with US Bank stadium and welcome back for more SMI from Minneapolis. Well, we got the second game tomorrow. It's Michigan state than ever to see and Texas Tech three seat. And it's led by its third year. Head coach that bring crispier once over seventy one percent of his games are his total NCAA record in ten games. He's won eight. He's done quite well, and he's taken Texas Tech to its first ever appearance in the final four, and he took some questions in here. Some open comments we met as a team this morning. It's all the guys if it doesn't fill the different today than it did yesterday leading up till tomorrow. Then we're not ready in. Everybody's share me that it did. So we're just excited about the opportunity to me personally this open practices. This is kind of sacred. I grew up in coaching coming to these is the one part of the final four that. I've never missed. I'd come to all four practices set their mccutchen, friends and in watch the Michigan state's North Carolina's two dukes, the Kansas is of the world of college basketball and dream of being here. So it's here, and I tend to have a great time here at our fifty minute practice today. We'll get shots up and try to enjoy the moment. Honda carpenter was sparked nation dot com. Coach your team plays incredibly intensive on defense, which is something. Michigan state likes to do. Is it fun to be able to most teams just don't play with intensity? You do on that side of the ball. Is that a fun challenge to play someone who has the same commitment that you do? That's a great name Hongo. Have you ever heard from Lucan combat Texas? I've got three daughters, but always said about his son on Honda, actually girls. Didn't know that. Just to be mentioned in the same question. Or a statement with our defense in Michigan state's a huge compliment for our program. Yes, we try to guard at a high level. It's been the identity of our teams at all different levels and now currently at Texas Tech. But it's something that we try to recruit two we certainly coach emphasize it and. He's just always kind of our belief about the ball in as a reinforced by coach night on those years under him. Just getting to know coaches over the last couple of days have been pretty cool. Hispasat? He's talking about his relationship with coach Heathcote and the defense and things like that. So I don't think people times at challenging not really. I mean good players want to be coached good players want that trust factor. And I think what she explained the guys. This is why we do the things we do. And this is what defense can lead to once they kind of visualizing interested. How important is it becomes everybody's identity. But I think Michigan state's one the best defensive teams in college basketball as they are every year to me it's much more than just the rebounding. It's the positioning in the gaps in the toughest the middle. Toughest the lack of mistakes the players playing roles the rim protection. It's one of the best shot blocking teams had calls basketball. But they do it by committee. So Michigan state. We have a lot of respect for obviously. But their defense is at the top list of reasons why. In the center toward the front. Hey coach Eddie pepper from WW. Mt. In Kalamazoo, Michigan Saturday. My name's not Honda Honda actually asked part of what I wanted to ask. I'll take it a step further you've bidden glowing in your reverence for coaches. Oh, and I just wanted you to touch on that a little bit more about the respect you have for him. And why there's a lot of great coaches out there. But what is it about Tom Izzo that resonates with you so much? What these three things, you know, talking to people that know coach and kind of studying and reading the books and articles like everybody, you know, I I'm. I'm. One hundred percent that this is a coach. It hasn't changed from what he's a high school coach when assistant coach graduate assistant than assistant now head coach and then NCA coach national championship coach Naismith hall of fame. Coach he hasn't changed. Everybody around him says he's the same old coach Phil that coaching. We're kind of a fraternity we spent APRIL's together in July's. And you might run into somebody at a rental car counter or a gym or, you know, one time at the peach jam they got one row at shares court three, and I just happened to be sitting somewhere. And then you you're sitting next to a coach's, oh, he obviously will not remember the story. But I do and he's just a guy. You know? He's he's personable is nice. He treats everybody, regardless of what a guy shirt says the logo on the shirt to me just kind of goes out of his way. He's a coach's coach helps coaches. So that's the first thing obviously on the basketball court. You know, everybody has an idea kind of the way the games played in the wake Michigan state plays. Exactly how I kinda visualize the game, you know, defense tough. Finis they have an identity coaches guys hard, but you can tell he loves us guys. And they love him their relationship pieces there. Have a lot of respect for their program. Upfront to the left Brian Chris Bryan Hamilton from the athletic, basketball wise. What are the biggest Bob? Knight influences on you. Preparation which ought to get our guys prepared. I think respecting every single opponent. The biggest game he plays the next game on a schedule. A girlfriend rainy somebody else created today. How big a game it was when we like playing Gonzaga. And she said it feels like just like it did opening night against corner word, and that's exactly right. Tell us the next game on a schedule is the most important game learned from coach night the ability to bounce guys back into play pretty quickly. If we had some success coach would he would homo pretty quick. Let's get back to work if we came up a little bit short it bang up a little bit. But we were always ready to play the next game. I never saw one loss turn into two losses with coach night player development getting guys better to so many things but coach night literally pretty much, you know, maybe most aspects of our program today. He influences in some way. Yeah. Kevin Brockway, Indiana sports coach when you look at the guard talent in the wing talent threat this final four including charcoal. How does that speak to maybe the game evolving over the last decade in terms of smaller lineups and a lot of guards threat this final four. Yeah. I think obviously guards have been a big part of basketball forever. And certainly in today's game. You can I think it's just more versatility on the floor. I've never, you know, we're small college in Little Rock with small ball. Maybe cakewalk at those six eight six nine guys he tried to play different positions, certainly in the NBA, Golden State kind of transform this college basketball. We'd studied Villanova's teams forever. And I thought it was small ball until we went out there last year in the elite eight in Boston. It was not small all these guys were six nine six ten they could just dribble passes shoot. And some people say it's small ball. So, but I still think there's a place in college basketball for the big guy hit Michigan state, certainly is you know, three three or four that we've got a lot of respect for an even on our team. We're not here today if not for north we're not here today, if it's not for Tariq. And but I think guards get a lot of attention in college basketball. But I think it's it's still, you know, you gotta. Have some play around the basket to advance. So there you go some of the thoughts of crispier day. Coach at Texas Tech team is made the final four team won thirty games team does pick seventh season in its conference. So I guess they sorta shot at said preseason projection team that was projected to win the big ten regular season was Michigan state, and it was inferred dogfight. And maybe the biggest obstacle for Michigan state. This year wasn't so much position. Which there was a lot of ad old. Man injury made it to task to get here. A little interesting when we come back with more of SSN live from Minneapolis. We're going to hear what head coach Sam is about is a hip to the final four and the team that brought him the first break right here. Spread network. This is where the temperatures are unkind. This is where water freezes in the blink of an eye. This is where the wind bites harder than amid ice cross. Check. This is where the beer is always on ice. This.

"Dot com slash college basketball, there he plays as fast as anybody in the country as fast as a lot of people almost anybody that ever seen with the ball in his hands. I mean Kobe white North Carolina's freshmen point guard is basically a fast break as soon as he gets the ball off a maker a mess. Like he is that I was sitting there watching the game against washing. In Washington fan base was up in arms. They couldn't believe they were getting beat down the floor off made basket. That's how fast Kobe white moves the ball up the floor gets above the floor. It's real entertaining to watch because North Carolina obviously has a ton of offense of options and Kobe white play so fast. He's also learned to play under control and get the ball to those options isn't a guy who just barrels down the floor anymore into traffic. Wildly thrown all over the place. I mean, he's able to sort of see things at a different pace than other people are and that makes more Carolina extremely dangerous because you're playing at a really high tempo, but you're doing so with a really high level of efficiency, and that's pretty much all Kobe white growing up this year, you know, Auburn shoot threes. Like, that's what does you wanna be guys? Just throwing it in from the outside. And everyone's saying armor, ten wins shooting threes Auber can't wait and shooting greens. Well winning shooting. Threes. So see one team moving the ball the floor fast-breaking every chance they get the other team getting into position of fire away from long distance. I'm with you. I think it'll be super entertained. Okay. So do you have one upset this weekend? I know they're all highly seated teams with the Oregon, and they're not really at twelve. So do you have a game where you go? There's an upset. Yeah. That's a really really good question. Because I don't think I do I really think that you know. I mean, you could make an argument that Purdue over Tennessee is kind of an upset just because Tennessee sort of has been that championship level team produce baby been a notch below that can Florida state played good enough defense to slow down, Gonzaga. I don't know. I mean, you're talking about Gonzaga's probably gonna have a lot of fans in Anaheim. So I don't know I'm kind of looking at this like the elite eight that. I thought was going to happen is probably going to happen. I wish I could give you an upset. Maybe it's LSU. I mean, maybe all that size. And that's lettuce. Schism just kind of negates what Michigan state's strengths are. I I would maybe look there to support again, just four two states defense. Flu physicality slogans academic sports state plays decent offense to we'll see. But you know, the chocolate has held so far. I kinda would just pick the same. Chawki elite eight that I had at the start. Okay. So here are my picks. I've got obviously, Duke Michigan state North Carolina. Houston beats Kentucky gone beats. Florida state. Texas Tech beats Michigan Virginia beats Oregon Purdue beat Tennessee. Yeah. I mean, again, I would be I think I would pick Tennessee. I think I would pick Michigan. I would not be surprised to the Michigan state Michigan National semi-final. I wouldn't. I mean, I think Michigan state if they can get past LSU actually matches up really well against Duke with the way Michigan state defends inside the three point arc obviously do can't shoot from long range. So I I kind of see the Michigan schools, then if you're talking about an upset at least from the outside perspective Zion mania going on the country. Maybe it's that next for our Michigan state just sorta neutralizes all stuff that Duke does really well moves down the final four and gives gives our Michigan Michigan state writer. Brandon Quinn nightmares of having to write about both teams played four again. Hey before I let you go. We've had this Michael avenue dotty story this week where he gets tweets. Fourteen minutes later, the FBI's at his door. They take him out in handcuffs, and he posts money he gets out and he's been all over Twitter. Deandra eight and got paid ball. Ball got paid Nike. Did this Nike do that? Don't fall for the smokescreen whatever the case may be is any of that distracting any of these programs. I doubt it, you know, my my impression of how players feel about this is they are. So not outraged by any of this happening at all not not only do they know that it happens when it happens to one of their guys and one of their guys is getting money. They don't care. I mean, they they all think I think to a man that the NCAA needs to do something to help athlete compensation, whether it's name and likeness, or whatever you wanna say. So that when the issue of my God, he took money comes up the last people in the world who are gonna you know, sweat that sort of thing are the other players on the team. So they just kinda I think go about their business. The same way, I coaches are real good at compartmentalizing things too and deluding themselves. I think sometimes into just doing their jobs until they have to face the music one way or the other. So I really don't think it has an impact. I mean, it's one of those show me the receipts things I'm not shocked. Of this happened indeed happened, but until you can sort of see it in black and white and sort of see the receipts so to speak. You know, that's when the action could actually take place. Anyway, I don't think it's going to be a big big deal for any of these teams this weekend. Well, I look forward to hopefully getting you on next week to preview the final four it's going to be a whole lot of fun this weekend. Because we got some blue second played some great basketball. "Correct me if I'm wrong, but clay Matthews as aging. I I don't I believe the bears. Love the running back. They got from Seattle from what I mean told. So I'm going to say no Rams did. Story. Clay Matthews on that defense is a bad defense last year. So his numbers dipped I can be an effective guy. But I I just think Mark Barron was the better player in the position. Although they do it differently. I think the Rams have not move much. I think is I've talked to people NFL insiders about these bears. It's all remain the same Tedy Bruschi was saying the other day to me that the bears don't need to make any moves. They're in a good place right now. Building the draft a great. All right. Let me give you this one. Because we're in talk college basketball coming up in the next hour, Bryan. Hamilton off from the athletic coming up in about ten minutes in the tournament the best outcome for the tournament. This season would be if Duke wins at all no question absolute shot for you to get Zeile Williamson playing bass, I'm embarrassed I said his last name for you to get Zairean playing basketball for a six game stretch all the way to the very end and winning the national championship. It's a win. College basketball's ratings are fifteen percent this year. And it's all because of what if he just got to the final game. I want. You wanna see you want to see you wanna see the hero at the end standing on a mountain top we got. And I'll say I'll go with you. Yeah. Right. No question. We talk March madness. "So glad you're with us short show tonight because of the top will have Ohio State against Michigan. Interesting college basketball for you again at the top right here on ESPN one thousand Ryan Hamilton covers college sports college basketball for the athletic dot com. Got a great article about Marquette. We're gonna talk about here and some other college basketball stories and Brian joins me childhood here on ESPN one thousand and the SPN app. Hello, brian. How are you? Thanks. Thanks so much for coming on the show. Great. I want to get your thoughts about salmon joy Houser from Marquette because that was his column. What did you learn about the workings of Marquette is and especially those two. Well, I think they're sort of secretly or maybe not so secretly really the keys to Marquette taking that next step as a program. I I think that's what everyone's been waiting for Steve O J housekeepers establish inability to win ability recruit high level players an ability to sort of stay consistent. But I don't know that they'd really reached that next level of championship contention of making noise big east tournament the NCAA tournament. And you know, we all know what Marcus Howard, do it. The the guy averaged about twenty five game can blow up for like forty and a half. I mean, we we've seen what he can do. But most teams are not going to be great even with a guy like Marcus Howard. If he doesn't have any help. And I think that's where salmon Joey Hauser come in either high level guys that are really able to diversify that offense. I mean, they're both big six seven six nine. They can handle it. They can. Shoot from the outside. They can play in the post. They sort of have that Nate six cents for basketball that you would expect brothers who've played together their entire life to have. I think we've got that sort of diversity of options that makes you a dangerous team. Marcus Howard can have a bad game back, Markus. Howard can basically not play on the road at Georgetown and Marquette can still win that game behind Sam Houser. I mean, they they're able to pick up the slack. When Howard isn't able to do all the sort of basketball wizardry stuff that he does. And that's what takes you from a decent team. A good team on the fringe to a team that's contending for league title, and and maybe can make noise and March. Brian. I'm looking at RJ Barrett and also Zion. Williamson does two are getting a lot of attention rightfully so from the Duke program what stands out most about what they bring to Duke. Is there one better than the other in your view? Yeah. I mean, it's kind of a small arcane thing for me because I I've watched them a time so far, but aside from just being great individual talents and the ability to get their own shot when they want their ability to score and traffic, I am constantly sort of shock, even though at this point. I shouldn't be with how well RJ Barrett. Zion. Williamson finished through contact in the lane at the rim. Make tough baskets. Off of drives. I mean that you don't see a lot of college players do that. And and maybe it's not surprising Zion. Just because of how big he is. And how much of a huge his Freeman guy kind of bounce off of them. But have not seen a ton of RJ Barrett before this year. I mean, he's right there. I you already Barikot in a traffic and that ball goes up towards the remnant. Is it a good shot? It's not a prayer. It's not a hope. I mean, he's he's finishing through traffic at the rim. And I think that's what that very small thing is kind of flipping on his head to me the whole idea of Kennedy based around one and done players win a national championship. Number one duke's playing defense, they're playing very high level defense with their athletics under switch ability makes it impossible for a lot of teams to run offense. Even Mike bring said it was basically a possible path last night when they played Notre Dame. But really it's that ability to sort of go one on one and finish at the rim and get key buckets at key times. I think may separate them from maybe the past one done teams that didn't fare as well. Brian Hamilton dot com with Jonathan hood on ESPN one thousand and the ESPN app as we have our conversation Goto the dot com. Click on college basketball, and that's where you can find Bryan Hamilton's columns, Bryan you've been in the city long enough to know about how fans feel about the program. You know, you get those that will look at out annoyance outcome. There is not more publicly talent how come more kids aren't staying in the in the in the state to be able to play Eleanor. But how likely is it for Brad Underwood to make Eleanor destination? It's gonna be tough because you're fighting against not just, you know, north western or regional teams like Wisconsin. Or even other big ten teams. I mean, if they're a really good players in Illinois difference, making super high level players, you're talking about competing against Kentucky, and Kansas and Duke and all those high level programs, and I'm not saying you can't win those battles. But it's really hard to win a majority of those battles or even kinda get your share when you're going against those programs. That's just reality. I mean, it it's sort of a chicken and egg thing. I mean, they're going to have to win in or and and prove themselves to be a destination for five stars for guys like that in order to win though, you have to get the high level players. I think basically critical couple years. I mean Brad Underwood the near two right now. I wonder if there's sort of the the ability to keep a son Moore around for next year return Trent Frazier. Return bench of Ely. I mean that would be nice core for them moving forward. And then you've just gotta make strides. You just can't you know, they had a real tough schedule this year. They probably over scheduled for the team. They had that just the way it was. I think Underwood inherited some of that. But yeah, I mean, do you need to start winning to make it a destination? So you're kind of have to grind it out with guys that are below the five stars. I know I always a highly highly recruited guy. But for the most part you're gonna have to win without the top ten top fifteen guys first, and then hope that you can start attracting them because you created a winning culture there without them. Brian. What are your thoughts on on the state of the big ten we suite of Illinois, Illinois, go into massive Square Garden to beating Maryland that came out of nowhere. I didn't expect that I think that the the bottom of the big ten if not saying they're on the same level as the top of it. But there's some some tough out there. There's some some tough opponents. Do you see the big ten being fluid as we look at the season? So far. I think there's a clear tearing a United certainly think Michigan Michigan state of separated themselves the top of the league. I think the next tier down. Yeah. You can see a lot of teams beat up on one another. You know, I I think maybe the big twelve has the smallest separation between top and bottom of any league. I think make an argument that ACC teams the bottom of the ACC teams are kind of like the bottom of the big ten teams to I don't think the big ten has sort of a a claim on the best bottom of any league. But yeah, I I think it's Michigan. Michigan state at the top. Clearly, everyone else is going to be vulnerable. Everyone else is going to be able to play at a really high level and beat just about anybody else. And everyone else is going to be able to kind of stumble when you wouldn't expect them to. So that's why when I see like ten bits for the big ten and all the brackets. Predictions and stuff like that. I get that there might be ten worthy teams right now. But I think the grind is just gonna wind up dragging down at least one or two teams resumes. Still be still be great improvement, obviously for the big ten. Get eight bits after getting four last year. But ten might be a little much just because I think some team you get banged along the way. Brian. I can't help. But to look at some of the mock drafts for the for the NBA. And the reason why is because I'm in Chicago. And there's no NBA to look at the bulls. So you gotta figure out like where the ball's gonna be in the draft. So is it too early to look at J Mirant as a as a potential prospect because these mock draft I'm seeing what he's in the top three. And I'm thinking, well, isn't that too early is no way he's over Zion? Williamson or RJ Berties you mentioned. Yeah. I mean, I I don't know if I had the number one pick that I would really go with John Moran over Zion. Williamson at this point unless there was some sort of real problem with position redundancy. Although the way the game is played right now. I don't really see how that would happen. That said guy who averages twenty four points a game in Tennessee game in college and can jump out of the gym and literally jump over guys to dunk over them in games is going to be a pretty highly coveted prospect. I think John Moran. It's probably going to be almost surely gonna be your first point guard off the board. I think you could see him go right after and RJ Barrett. Maybe depending on the depending on who you have the take him over and RJ baron. I I don't know. I mean, the point guard Gruden leak a guy like hammer who can score and create and push the pace and do a ton of things he's going to be highly highly coveted guy. So if you're in the market for point guard, you don't really have to display. Pair seem to get the number one number two pick because with John Moran. You might be getting a guy who certainly is impact on his own way, those other Brian. Lastly, I'm wondering is it too early for me to to look at the college basketball season this way or am. I right on because I'm looking at the top teams in the top twenty five, and I see Tennessee and Tennessee's had at some really good games and their number one team in the country. But when I watch last up late, and I'm watching the bottom thinking seems to be some parody throughout this college basketball, especially from the from one through I'd say ten or fifteen is do you do you solidify Tennessee's number one or am I right that there's some parody there that we could be looking for when we get closer to the tournament. Yeah. I mean, I don't think you really have that runaway unbeatable team. I mean, I think we all thought that might be Duke after that. That opening game. I certainly was pretty overwhelmed by what I thought the champions classic. But you know, obviously, everyone's proven to be beatable. There are teams that are less beatable than others. I mean, I saw Virginia play in person last weekend. And I was pretty well blown away by how well they are not only playing defense, but spacing it now playing a really efficient brand of offense. But more efficient than with more ways to score. Then I think Tony Bennett's enjoyed a long time. Maybe ever had Virginia, you know, right now to be number one. Yeah. I probably if I was floating in a poll, I probably have Tennessee up there. Yeah. But when you look at it for me, it's always about what's the group of teams that can win an actual championship. And I still think you could legitimately C four or five six seven eight teams make a claim to being right now the sort of team that could make a run at a national championship. And then you're always gonna have a couple of other teams ended up make along the way here to Brian. What's the next piece you're working off with the athletic? Tune in soon for some information on the Texas Tech red raiders they had little losing skid there. But they're back on a two game winning streak and they will face Kansas this weekend. It kind of kind of approving proving ground game for crispier team makes the elite eight last year lost a lotta guys, but they're still playing basically the best defense in the country right now ferrall. Title TCU on Monday night, kinda played with crispier told me what he thought was the most cleanest most complete game they played all season. So we're gonna kinda right about how he's a stalled that defensive philosophy at Texas Tech and carried over throughout the years, and sort of bring them this moment against Kansas of Lawrence on Saturday. So there's going to be a little Jared. Culver love there. Could could he be for Texas Tech? Right. Little bit. Yeah. A little bit. I mean, he's been a little bit up and down. I mean, they he claimed a lot better last night. And he knows this guy a lot of people looking at the lottery pick, I think people maybe in that three game losing skid. He wasn't quite playing up to level lottery pick. But that's a that's a highly highly talented guy on both ends of the floor. Brian has always I appreciate your time. "Got mad norlander here with me roughly twenty four hours after we said together. Lou Mahdi's Kaga watch Arezzo state upset top rank Kansas while I try to eat an entire pie. But couldn't finish. Meantime, norlander killed his entire pie. And then most of his second by like a machine. So let's start with a big f you to metabolism norlander like maniac tall thin. I actually try to watch what I eat. I'm totally disgusting. I was so jealous watching you eat last night. You just eat whatever you want doesn't seem to matter. I was so disappointed watching you eat. Now. Let's be really let's let's be transparent. I did not order to deep dish pizzas. I our our friend Bryan Hamilton of the athletes, recommended I give the thin crust. Mal nowadays a chance I did the deep dish is much much better to everyone who has an issue with calling this pizza. Go take a walk. I could not care less about people that are trying to die. On this hill of of calling Chicago deep dish pizza anything, but pizza, whatever. It's awesome still like peak watts best. But now is a great time. And you did not even finish. I don't know what that was about. And but it was it was a good time in Chicago at got a couple of things we'll get to you on later in this podcast perish. But I I I much ause. You might have with me when I was starving to. I couldn't believe that you didn't finish. And listeners are probably well aware of the fact I picked to pick two hundred three hundred dollars straight up, and they and they pulled it off. So I mean, I'll leave I'll leave it to you at that point. But when we when we last spoke you had Kansas winning. No, you had Carolina winning no and I- ridiculously picked the Pac twelve team to win. So that was my mistake and I own that completely. So first thing on the pizza argument. There are people who like to have this argument. Whether deep dish pizza is pizza. And they insist that it's not therefore New York pizza must be best. If you wanna say, New York pizza's, the best fine with me, if you wanna say, Chicago pizza, isn't pizza like whatever, I'm not even interested in the argument. I just know this if you put both things on table in front of me and tell me I can have one of the I'm taking the deep dish every single time. And I don't care how you frame it. Or what you call it? Just good. You call it crap. You could be like payers would you like some deep dish crap? I'd be like, yeah. I'll take that. If it comes from p quads Luma nods or wherever so like, yeah. I'm with you. I don't even entertain the debate. I just know that this tastes good pizza. Tastes good. Is. It was. No it was. It was tremendous as always. And it was just it was awesome to to get to Chicago as we talked about just a level elite level top tier American city love getting chance to get out there. And it was great to see you. And we got some interesting basketball games. Do you wanna get to what we saw? Do you want to start with the fact that Kansas, you know, my preseason number one team finally took a loss as I expected to do where do you want to launch here? GP let's start there because we did not after the CBS sports. Classic was dawn just call. It a night. I mean, we kinda did we went to nowadays, and we ordered drinks, and we ate pizza or whatever you wanna call it. But we did sit at the table. I got the laptop out and we watched Arizona state canes at our table. Like, you mentioned Arizona state Kansas its first loss of the season..

"Welcome back to clockwise at tech podcast that's known for its rigid format. So this bonus episode is pretty weird. I am one of your hosts Mike sergeant and I am joined once again by the special substitute co host too. I always have back when Dan's away. It is Bryan Hamilton how you doing Brian formats were made to be broken mica work you to do that work. Amen. We're glad to have you here to help me break. Those formats win the Dan's away, the mice will play and I would love to introduce the other mice that have joined us for the show. To my left is the host of originality right here on relay FM as well as the as she notes proprietors of apples map, it is the one and only a lean SIMS. Hello aline. Hello. I'm so happy. You're here to join us love clockwise and to my left as co host of Defoe Khust and unhelpful suggestions as well. As man about the incomparable, Mr. Joe steel, how's it going? Hello. I'm glad I'm here. So I could be a mouse. Your whiskers. Look, particularly nice tonight. Thank you. We're all in the clubhouse. We're all wearing our little our little mouse hats, and we're all having a very good time at the most wonderful place in the world. Is that what it's called? I don't remember wise lounge the clockwise lounge exactly the most wonderful place in the world. So you all know how this works. We've got four topics four people to talk about those topics and just thirty minutes to do it. So I'm going to kick things off. I would just like to know if you know, if you've got a tip out there, whether it be a favourite tip that you like to share with people to see them go you can do that. Or perhaps a newfound tip that you've come across just go ahead and share tech tip with listeners. A lean. We'll start with you. Well, one thing is I like the basics. So I feel like the things that I have taught people that have brought the most quality of life improvements are like you can. Use command or control seed copy, text or you can hit shift ERO to select texts. Like, you don't always have to go back to the mouse. You can use your computer keyboard as a home base and a lot of the skills are applicable. If you have like a keyboard on your ipad connected to your ipad. But when I've worked IT, I was I was teaching people this all the time and literally to this day ten years later, I still have people thinking me for teaching them. How to use light control be on windows? Taxed so like, really, make sure your family and your friends know this because a lot of people don't I love it. As a mouse. I'm offended that you want to take away our rights and use only the keyboard for text. I'm going to talk about a device that does not even have a mouse. So I guess I'm hypocrite here. The thing I blow the most people's minds with when it comes to tech tips on especially if they just upgraded from an older phone and don't really follow the text circles and journalism and Elvin new features. That are added is three D, touch and everyone listening to this knows about three D, touch, but on a six s model or later you just push a little bit harder on your phone and low things will happen peaks and pops will happen. You can get a little app shortcuts. I blew my roommate's mind with the other day. And it was really great because he just upgrade from a five s and in addition to that you also get the wonderful, the wonderful mean that went around a few days ago where everyone's. Mind was blown that. You have a little text editor on IOS with a sweep that blew off lake with hundreds of thousands of re tweets or something. And that's something that people just don't know. So I'm glad to be sharing that with all of y'all today, the other one I wanted to share was if you go into settings on your iphone do not disturb and scheduled to and from and bedtime do not disturb while bedtime is. I think the most underutilized new feature of twelve and it dims a screen just a little bit at hides all notifications from your lock screen while you're sleeping, and it makes going to sleep with a phone right next to you, which let's be honest..

"Replace family. You can't replicate it. It's just so important have around you. I'm learning that more and more the more on his back. Nine, I travel. From Ricky Harris. I'm gonna found years since the mid south days as a fellow nine one eight or I'm grateful you were the main voice wrestling through the years for me. I want to hear your thoughts on whether Carlos Cologne was involved in the death, Bruce Brodie or not. Well, here's the deal. Ricky I don't have any. I haven't heard that story. The Carlos was involved in the instigating this to this plot is whatever collusion where he'll I have never heard that. So I would say no. To your question on that deal, I don't think it was a travesty hill. Yes. A travesty was the was our politicians and political people. They're on the take, obviously. Right. How do you want Scott free? Some bullshit. Excuse himself defense. There's only one knife. It was stuck in front Frank goodish. Do the math. Remember the gym, Russia for it and she mill dot com. For your your questions, emails, obviously, from Bryan Hamilton, do you think WW should institute a mid year superstar shakeup only if if it's if they've made bad decisions across the board, to me, it's an indictment of your planning. If you gotta go blow everything up every six months, I understand keeping it fresh. That's what you do. Smart writing, logical, storylines competitive elements with hell. Highlight about personal issues. It takes time to get a character over long enough to get over so that we have an opinion of that character. So we make an emotional investment. So we give shit if they're getting beat up. We never like to see our friends or family or relatives. People we know suffer or have less than great success. Nobody likes that. And if you do this stop from Kevin and Albany New York, I used to run Albany because I could drive there from Connecticut. Always interesting. I don't understand why dub w documentary shows aren't on TV at all, but if they're on the w network, that's not not not television. Do you know if there was ever any talk or plans for w. two air documentaries on cable TV like ESPN or USA? I do not know, but I know that they all the original program. If they can muster will be on the w network. I as it should be you. That's a, that's a big thing. The content providers, they got a network, they got all these great old matches and all this finished really wonderful. I promise you, but you gotta have new content. Content is king and the w network is the able to carry carries the content from WWE. Tad is in San Diego. I love hearing your thoughts each week about the current state of affairs in federal rushing. There's a lot of fairs going on. No kidding. Can you give me your thoughts on the upcoming college and NFL football season? Yes, it's about to start. And yes, openly Sooners do well. L. but the college sane. Always, you got a messed gotta, beat Alabama and Clinton Ohio states in that mix of others. You know, there's a lot of good teams. A lot of good teams. My Sooners are in the conversation. We'll see how it works out. So in my view, the national championship in college football is going to go through Alabama or Clemson, unless somebody gets really hot toward the in the season, it could roll right into the playoffs like you see in March madness. But right now they're the odds on favorites, but I'm always gonna put my team win Rosa drums Sooners fan, and I have no, no shame. And so I was going to ask, well, what is your favorite NFL teams? My watch team was the Steelers, so we have a lot of Steelers paraphernalia around our house jerseys and things of that nature. And so I'll always cinema nly cheer for the Steelers, but I also focused very prominently on. The NFL teams have my Sooners players represented like the Redskins, for example, the ravens. There's a lot of, so that's kind of where I hang out on that deal. So and I think the super wait till you talk about who knows man is all about injuries who keep their quarterback healthy think of that way. And you see, there's no right answer, and that's mailbag this week folks. Remember, Email Email producer Ted, these Jim Russia for at g mail dot com. Dead..

"Is here chip oh it's good to be back g mcdonald is here hello hello mr snell is there anything else i can get for you how i run a bryan hamilton hi jason i'm very glad to be here all right i got nothing that's my favorite line from ever makes me laugh every time when jeff bridges says how ironic tony yes tell us more about the irony mr man in a middle suit okay so iron man two thousand eight started this all off this is this is the one that set with the the franchise in motion as it were funding to see of course that it is distributed by paramount pictures yeah stars flying in this is some sort of star trek movie or something or indiana jones movie jones who knows but it but it's not because back then marvel wasn't really even a studios let alone of course a part of disney and they they decided this was actually a big i mean not not getting into the trivia too much but like this is a big move by marvel to produce its own movie rather than do what they had been doing which was sell off parts of their intellectual property to movie studios which is why spiderman went to columbia and the x men went to fox but here they decided to take quite honestly i mean let's be serious here a b list superhero iron man and make a movie around him and at the time i remember people are like really does anyone wanna see me movie sitting pretty know who ironman is and you know what happened they made a they made a really good movie with perfect casting and it was a huge hit and they've may made tens and tens of billions of dollars and then so everson well done i guess oh yeah i mean i i read that they actually focus group a bunch of marvel characters that they still had control of they didn't have spiderman they didn't have the x universe and things like that in front of a bunch of kids as well as adults and the they described all these marvel characters and the kids went nuts over ironman because they could be they could they could see this they could they could put on a suit and they could zap people make it fly and that was great so they decided that iron man was the most awesome superhero possible that's who we need to start our studios with well i was i the only like existing ironman fan i'm naming claim i was a huge iron man fan but like i do remember i'm not sure i had a toy of him as a kid but i definitely had a friend who had one i remember the little red and yellow suit and having the action figure and stuff like that and i don't think i was not a big adventures reader in the mid nineties but i definitely knew iron man's background and the iron man story and stuff my favorite quote about this though was don't know if this apocryphal or not but don cheadle when he got involved in iron man two he is said to be a big comic book fan but he even he thought iron man was a robot yeah there's a lot of that going around gene good let's say i was just looking back at roger ebert s review of iron mass at oh i didn't even really know until i went to see the movie that it wasn't like tony stark's brain in a robot yeah that's right there was no knowledge dan like you so my friend from college who's been on the comparable a little bit back in the day especially ben boy check that's one of the things i remember from ben when i met him was that his favorite superhero was iron man that was like really like interesting i knew who ironman was i read the avengers when i'm in the eighties when i was reading comic books and he was he was there he's always been our it's funny he's he never broke through into the public consciousness until this movie but he was always a key player in the marvel universe because he was an inventor and genius and he was he was one of the key figures in the adventures and because he was a millionaire slash billionaire he was able to fund some of their stuff and all of that and so he was.

"Welcome to the audible i'm stewart mandel joined as always by bruce feldman is the monday morning after the first weekend of the ncaa tournament i'm still buzzing from it i don't know about you bruce you you actually covered the ncaa tournament but i feel like you covered the only corner of the bracket that wasn't particularly eventful yeah it was it was pretty dreadful the two games i got sunday clemson and auburn which was like a forty point game at one point and then i got west virginia marsha which was interesting for the first ten minutes and then that's into a thirty point game as well so it's still fun to be around the atmosphere but it was a dud i gotta say this was the first time in almost a decade that i had no work responsibilities because at the athlete the fieldhouse at the college basketball site is stocked full of great college basketball writers they don't need me so i actually i had not taken a day of occasion yet since i started there so i actually took two days of vacation for the first two days of the german only basically left my couch to go to a sports bar and i have to say i do not miss covering nancy tournament this was a blast to sit back and watch it for fun and i read some great stories especially from if you read bryan hamilton's at the state up all night writing his story from the unbc upset and i loved reading it but i didn't envy him having to pull that all nighter and do that it's i'm outta point my life where i just wanna it's such a great event and i just wanna watch it for fun while to me the you know there was a lot of lot of fireworks in the first couple of days but the real story obviously was for the.
