"Everyone and thank you for tuning in to the 454th episode of awards chatter. The Hollywood Reporter's awards podcast. I'm the host Scott feinberg. And my guest today is a comedic phenom, who is blowing up at the moment, having created and served as a producer and writer and the principal star of the ABC sitcom Abbott elementary, which has been described by The New York Times as quote the best new network sitcom of the season close quote and quote the kind of comedy that network TV needs. With the guardians suggesting quote, it has Parks and Recreation sense of community, modern families, precision tooling, and Ted Lasso's charm. But as its own hilarious thing. The first season of the show about the struggles of teachers in a Philadelphia public school rolled out between December 2021 and April 2022, and quickly proved to be something special. It's second episode was ABC's highest rated installment of comedy since the finale of Modern Family a couple of years earlier. Ratings for the premiere were quadrupled after about a month, something that had never before happened with an ABC comedy. Season one overall averaged about 4 million viewers per episode, the show was renewed for a second season, a month before the first season's finale, and the first season ended up with a 100% rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes. Oh, and earlier this month, the show received 7 Emmy nominations as well, including best comedy series, making it this year's only network show nominated for the top drama or comedy awards. And my guess is personally nominated in three categories, producing, writing, and acting, which is a total never before achieved in a single year by a black person. I'm talking about one of Time Magazine's 100 most influential people of 2022, Quinta Brunson. Over the course of our conversation, the 32 year old and I discussed what led her to comedy and to create web content, including what proved to be the first viral Instagram video. What it was like subsequently working on projects like the first season of HBO's a black lady sketch show. While quietly trying to sell a show of her own, how her mother, Norma Jean Brunson, and her 6th grade teacher, Joyce Abbott, helped to inspire abbot elementary and why she wanted the show to air on and deeply believes in the future of network television, plus much more, and so without further ado, let's go to that conversation. Hi, what's up? Thank you so much for joining us. And great to have you on the podcast. Normally I begin with a question I'm going to come to in a second about just where our guests were born and raised with their parents did for a living. But first, I need you to help me understand. I always thought that QU I NTA was Quinta is, so are we all saying it wrong? Or what's going on? No. Quinta is another pronunciation of my name. Someone say that is the correct pronunciation. I've kind of grown up my whole life being called both Quentin and Quinta. Okay. I am the 5th child Quinta means with and it's actually something I had to land on when I became more of a professional in my field when deciding which one I wanted to go by. And I decided to go by Quinta, but what's hard about it is I don't always pick up when someone is calling me. Quinta, because I'm so used to it. Right. Right. So it's funny you bring this up. I was on a red carpet the other day, and the one woman said, Quinta, you know, who was taking pictures in the rest of the people. We're like, Quinta Quinta, everybody's confused. And I didn't even catch it. My peel, so I'm upset. And I was like, wow, I didn't even hear it. I'm just so used to hearing both versions. So yeah. All right, well, thank you for clarity. Now I can sleep well at night. So all right, now for the usual question, just can you share for anyone who may not know where were you born and raised in what did your folks do for a living? I was born in west Philadelphia, born and raised in west Philadelphia, trying not to sing the theme song. Me too, me too. I'm proud of both of us. And my mother was a teacher. And my father was, he managed parking lots. For a living. It seems so mundane, but I found it to be very cool. Sure. No, I've always thought that's the American Dream. One time payment and then let it just keep collecting. Exactly. Now, your mom, it was always kindergarten that she taught her did that change over the years. She talked kindergarten for most of her career. She had switched to first grade. I remember one year. And she wanted to go back to kindergarten. Okay. And that was good because you were when you were in kindergarten that worked out nicely, right? It did. She was my teacher, yeah. Yeah. So in your memoir, she means well. And I will just repeat that for anyone listening at home that is. You talk about the fact that your family that when you were growing up was quite observant, Jehovah's Witnesses. And how that may have shaped you and I wonder if you can maybe give a little version of that now just how you think it might have affected you as a kid. I think for growing up Jones witness, it just, for me, as a kid in west Philadelphia, I think it gave me some type of religion gives a lot of people, but it gave me some guidelines, you know? It helped keep me safe in Philadelphia and keep me out of trouble. Joe's business is a very strict, it's a very strict religion. I wasn't allowed to do so much that when I did become passionate about something, it was often something that I that was in wine was kind of my principles at the time, like I felt like, oh, this feels like it's part of my purpose. If I really want to do it because I had all these rules and guidelines and fears of God, but then there were some things that I was like, ah, I absolutely got to do this. I think this is in line with what I'm wearing. I felt that way about comedy. You were talking to him any other jobs when it says and they would not say the same thing, but I felt that I had kind of a purpose in that arena that aligned with my religious beliefs at the time. So to connect the dots, I guess, to comedy, I guess there's first dance, and then dance somehow leads to acting, which somehow leads to comedy. Yeah. Connect those dots if you don't mind. Well, how many was always there? That's another thing my family, we spent so much time together, and we watched so much, we watched a lot of comedies, things that were the whole family could enjoy. Like a big one in our House was all of the Nick at night TV shows, all of the shows that became Nick and night TV shows in my era. So the Brady bunch, Mary Tyler Moore show, Bob Newhart show, they all became really important to me, those sitcoms, they represented togetherness, things I could watch with my family, things I was allowed to watch. And for that reason, you know, I really loved comedy more than I was willing to admit. I think, and as I got a little bit older, I started to find kind of my own things I loved all that was really big to me. I just thought it was fascinating. These kids, you know, doing sketch comedy was so incredible to me and my older siblings kind of sharing comedies with them because it's what we also had in common. Ace Ventura pet detective made my brother and I Friends. I think without that, I'm not sure we would have gotten a lot. And so, you

"Trailblazers in event where it isn't fully healthy for the whole for the whole contract. Yeah. Let's go to the mix. Jalen Brunson, four years, 105 million. Again, these numbers, I feel like are so fluid in terms of what the exact number is going to be. Let's estimate four years, a 105 million because I think that's what Chris Haynes reported and Chris has been on top of this from the jump with Jalen Bronson. Mitchell Robinson four years, 60 million. Sure. Look, we talked a little bit about what the fit of Jalen Brunson is. I'm good with it because I think that at the end of the day, signing Jalen Bronson to be your number two or number three makes you more attractive when it comes to going out and acquiring the number one guy, right? And obviously there's just this long track record of family ties between the Brunson family and the rose family. Great, cool. For me, that's why I know that people are gonna complain about tampering with this, right? With like, oh, did the Knicks tamper, I don't really think it is. Like when you have this preexisting relationship between these two families that is so close and like Rick Brunson, his known Leon rose for 30 years. Like I just don't, I don't see it that way, I guess personally and I'm sorry to maverick stands. I know that that sucks and I know that it sucks that you just lost this great player who helped lead you to the Western Conference Finals and you have every right to be disappointed about that. But I just, I don't know, like to me, this is such a unique situation, maybe is the way to put it. It's just so rare. I know that the NBA is incestuous in terms of relationships and nepotistic in many ways. But this one's even more like weird to me in that regard. Where do you fall on the Brunson deal though? I think I am more forgiving in this case. One, the Knicks are always in conversation about these big free agents and stars and whatnot. And they always kind of get left at the altar and being able to finally land a guy that you would like zoned in on from day one. I think that's important and also, like you said, just kind of building a team for the next guy to come in. I think the Knicks have one job is to display competence over even just a mildly short period of time. It doesn't have to be like 5 years of competence. I think their market still has weight. I think their market still has power. They just got a display that they are a stable and good team..

"Wait wait, don't tell me podcast feed. The new hit sitcom, Abbott elementary, about the teachers and a majority black under resourced elementary school, was created by my guest Quinta Brunson, who also stars on the show. Before getting her own show, she was known for her viral short videos and series on the Internet, like the girl who's never been on a nice date. She was a producer and actor for BuzzFeed video and was a cast member on the first season of a black lady sketch show. In abbot elementary, she plays a second grade teacher in a Philadelphia school. She's pretty new at the job, and has remained fired up by idealism, but is still pretty naive. The series is a mockumentary. In this scene, from episode one, she is in front of the camera describing herself. What she says is interspersed with a scene from her classroom. She's given her students to the count of three to do what she's told them to do. She's already up to 8 when this scene begins. I'm Janine teagues, I've been teaching second grade here at ebit elementary for a year now. 8. 9. As a product of the Philadelphia school system, I'm proud to say I survived and now teach here today. All right guys, so there have been three presidents since this one, okay? It's an old book. So here's where I taped in the others. I'd say the main problem in the school district is, yeah, no money. The city says there isn't any, but they're doing a multi-million dollar renovation to the eagle stadium down the street from here. But we just make do. I mean, the staff here is incredible. They're all amazing teachers. I really look up to them all. Well, I look up to the older ones. We younger teachers are still getting a hang of it. If we don't end up leaving. Look, I know this school is rough, but I became a teacher to make sure students come out alive. And after learning a lot in my first year, I finally feel is happening. Jamal, what are you doing? I had to go in the toilet start work. The rug was plan B. Yeah, that scene ends with Jamal peeing on the rug in the classroom because the toilets are broken. And the chaos we heard in the middle of that scene when she was talking about the young teachers having a hard time, what we saw, which you can't see on the radio is one teacher using an extinguisher to put out a fire in a trash can, another teacher ducking from things being thrown around the room by students, including a globe, and another teacher who's given up and walked out, carrying her things in a box while giving the school the finger. Quinta Brunson, welcome to fresh air. I love this series. Thank you for making it. Thank you so much for having me. It's so cool to hear you like described the scenes that are happening. It makes it funnier to me. You describing what's happening in the show. It's so crazy. So why did you want to do a series about a new teacher in an elementary school? I wanted to do a series about public schools because I was visiting my mother one day. She is a now retired teacher, but at the time she was and it was the year before she retired. I went to go visit her while she had a parent teacher night that she had to be at for school and I was in my mother's kindergarten class. I was a student at the school where she taught for 5 years after that. But I just got to look at it in this different light. I got to see this woman who would love this job for so many years. So much so that she didn't even want to give it up. Still love it this much, despite it getting harder despite teachers not having all the support they need, despite kids growing even more unruly than they've been in recent time. She still loved the job so much so that her and I got into a little argument about her needing to retire soon. And I just thought that that was the beauty right there. That was the message, the comedy was filling itself out. But the beauty is someone being so resilient for a job that is so underpaid and so underappreciated because it makes them feel fulfilled and they're doing their purpose here. So your mother was your teacher and kindergarten? She was? Yep. I was only four. I started school early at four or 5. And to me, it was just my norm. You know, I went to school. With my mom, you know, she made me breakfast in the morning at home. And then we went to school. And I called her mom. I think she didn't require me to call her miss Brunson. I did call her mom. But she treated me exactly equal to the rest of the kids, which is one thing I remember from that time. And it just felt like a continuing of the nourishment and nurture I got at home. One of my favorite characters on the show is a middle aged, very experienced black teacher who's so easily gets the students to listen to her and she's more cynical than your character, not about the children or about teaching, but about. The ability to get resources. But I love those teachers, those teachers who just have that kind of magic touch and the kids respect her and listen to her and we'll do what she says. And while chaos is my be happening all around, her students will not be in chaos. How do they do it? I've always wondered, how do they do it? I don't know, you know, my mother has that ability. And that character Barbara Howard is loosely based on my mother. It's something I've watched her do for years and continue to do to just get a room of children to act right with nothing more than a look. I just think it's a gift. You know, one interesting thing about it is I think my mother has just as much respect for her students as they do for her. And I think that relationship creates a bond. And I think that's very important. It's an important part of that power. You started as a comic. And I know that you're very short. I should say I'm very short, too. Do you want to compare height? Yellow let's do it. I didn't know you were short. Oh yeah, yeah, I'm short. You couldn't tell by my voice. No, no. Or your pictures. Yeah. So I'm like, I don't know 11 give where the same height. Take maybe. Okay, right. So when I'm in front of a microphone, I have to stand on something. Like if there's a podium in front of me, I need something to raise me so that you see more than a forehead sticking up. When you started and stand up, will you self conscious about being short that people wouldn't be able to see you over other people's heads or that you wouldn't have enough command on stage because you weren't physically overbearing? You know what? No. For most of my life, I did not feel self conscious about being short. If anything I looked at it as like a superpower, it was something very interesting about me. And people thought I was cute, and funny, and when I started doing stand up, it was just another thing to be funny about. I still think I've become more aware of it recently. Recently, I'm like, man, I am not giving grown woman to people. They think. I'm like, I kind of would like to give full grown adult, but it's not giving that and no think I'm in this space of, you know, producers, showrunner..

"The worst he becomes the one of the best 6 men in the league. The best he's a starting garden. We feel pretty good. About the way this roster coming together. And I think there's a thought of right now, Luke is kind of a guard, but you could put him out forward if you got a really good defensive guard in there. That's all kind of become miss marsh and it flows together anyway now. Within that world and their ecosystem and in their offense. So yeah, this says to me, he's not going anywhere by the trade deadline unless they get a silly offer or they're able to put him plus Hardaway plus something else together to go get a star that seems kind of unlikely. Are you worried at all about the excitement level of the trade deadline? It feels like we're hearing more and more teams are not going to try and part of that is this time of year. It behooves teams to say, oh, no, no, no, no, no. We really like this guy. We want to keep this guy for bargaining purposes, but we've heard now. I mean, we've heard the rockets are now loathed to move Eric Gordon and whether or not that's true. Again, but jaylen Brunson here, we're hearing more teams are being hesitant to move players. Like could this have a cumulative effect of being a somewhat of a disappointing trade deadline if that's the case? It could. I mean, I've seen some reporting that some teams are basically saying, hey, we're going to run with what we have. Part of that is some teams still don't entirely know who they are. Because normally it's right around Christmas and the first of the year that teams feel pretty good about all right, here's who we are. They take the next month. They work through it. And then we're at the deadline. Now this year, that process is really still happening now. For some teams, because some of these teams had a month or so from mid to late December through mid to late January, kind of wiped out with all the COVID absences and things like that. So I think that's good things a little slower to develop. Went through that whole period where basically everything went on hold because it was just going to fill out rosters with G league call ups right now. But I think it is where that period from a week to two weeks out from the deadline is. Got to get a first round pick for him. And another team says, I'm not giving you a first round pick. And then lo and behold, trade deadline week or trade deadline day. It's all right, how is two second rounders? Okay, that works. Let's go. And I think it's just we're still posturing right now. And that'll be where it will go from here..

My job is on the ground just trying to understand this doyle. Brunson has tweeted that filming has begun on a documentary about his vastly interesting life in the other detail he shared is that is coming from the same folks who brought us the fascinating michael jordan series. The last dance which. I still haven't seen yet. Are you serious. That i know i need to get that on my list. I mean you know when. I'm traveling i. Well here's the thing is usually when i'm watching series is when i'm traveling have and then this last trip by I'm way behind on shits creek. Do everybody bet you were going to quit listening show. I'm so out of it with so we need to get through shit street first and then i'll do the last dance because you know it's the last dance so i can't. It's not the first dance not to go off on a tangent. But did you know that for all of the the television commercials for the show when they sit they'd say shits creek. The logo has to be on the screen. Now really has to be on the screen so they can understand that spelled s. the itt. Because if you just turn on commercial and say hey shits creek what my kids are here. This of course. We're doing it now without the logo. So yeah but we're adults and we'll find out later scott's gonna be adult again later in the show. I can't wait for it but yeah no. The last dance was phenomenal. So i'm glad that people would that talent level of talent for storytelling and quality are in charge of something as important as doyle brunson documentary. So that's fantastic. I can't wait to see it. Yeah absolutely man like eat. Talk about me cypher. Maybe stu unger which is more tragic interesting. I don't know of a more interesting poker player out there that just going to be just. I mean there's enough that you can do ten episodes poker up. Yeah it's still not even scratched the fact that he was a basketball star trek star and all this other stuff right So it's gonna be really really interesting. I think and If they're going to look forward to to seeing that when it comes out so then episodes we have the american horror.

Darren tells moments when he had his moments he made them counts but of course. There's a lot of talk about injuries and things like that. We'll get to darren. It seems like dark brunson two choices. He can wait for israel to sonya and robert whitaker to fight and hope that outta sonya wins so he can get in there and get a title shot or you take another fight against jared kenny. Or maybe the winner of inventory versus holocaust of when that fight happens. He's got some options. I feel like especially like in. Just straight up. Context and terminology derek. Brunson has done enough to get a title shot. One eighty five. He's absolutely has. But israel tucson is the man it's whitaker first and then we'll see what happens. What should derek brunson do. Should he sit out and weights and just hope that things fall into place. That rob whitaker doesn't win so they don't have the trilogy fight or you gotta take another fight. "Got some serious business to discuss with the wbz basically allowing oscar valdez to go forward with this fight after a blatant violation. Not even show where we begin with this if you have a problem with some of the substances on the list that time to get those substances removed as before you're fighter test positive for them not after the fact and then allow them to fight anyway. Oscar valdez convicted of having some kind of stimulant of banned stimulant in his system. Which if you're struggling to make weight and now you can make it a little bit easier on yourself while your opponent kills himself to make weight. That's a huge advantage. No gray area about it. Diane to hear your take on this but bad bad. Look for the wbz to let this fight. Continue to go on as scheduled. I don't lean collapsed. When did they have a good look. Really i mean when when does this Become all news because it is old news with one thing or another with these organizations. This time it happens to be the wbz but does it matter. Which is what it is that useless. I mean except not to take money from the fighters in all. They know how to take those sanctions. She said that they're damn good. That believe me there would be. There would be no banned substance that would keep them from taking those action and that that wouldn't happen

And you know how. Darren till looked in in this fight as well. I wanna to go back to a aka said. Even your question. We're asking about darren. Till guarantee darren till it seems even though he dominated and he's gonna win fifty k. He just wanted to. Main event dominated darren till like maybe no other person maybe other than woodley. I'm i'm thinking of the ufc We got knocked out of course but by at but at least just in the main event fight like just we're not talking about the brunson. Still talking about darren till the conversation about how good derek brunson is darren till we kinda came in. I think me we were both very confident. That brunton was gonna win this fight. He's better mixed martial artists. He's a much better wrestler. Much better grappler. He would eventually deg Brunton we're not to get caught with something. And even though derek brunson is maybe passes athletic. Prime he's almost thirty eight years old the experience he has he has right now in that third round. He got till hurt him till hurt him. And and then brunson remain controlled. Got a control. Take another desperate takedown control. Take down and wound up finishing the fight after getting hurt. Only eight thirty seconds before that from tale so just an unjust a great performance from derek brunson. He's so much better than the brenton. I think people fans want to kind of go back to the same brunson that loss to romero's brunson that lost badly izzy. Hey he's a frigging champ. You know lots of the champion purpose. He lost the jam fort reason champs champ for a reason and yet brunson fought is e. Tomorrow i would still be heavily in favor of. You're winning that fight. But that doesn't take away from. How good derek. Brunson is and without a doubt. Derek brunson is an elite and lee. leat middleweight. And he's right there for a title title fight now one. Does he moved the needle enough. That's another story but skill wise. Absolutely derek brunson great performance. Darren till i say going into this. He's a good middleweight. And i still think he's a top ten away he's just he lost much better fighter tonight and yeah and and derek brunson showed up. Yeah i would agree with everything you just said and to me. I said this on the preview show. I said this on the prefight show with tom. Brady as well..

"About that. Jazz is back bay. Jazz jazz is back. And maybe it's in celebration of derek brunson's dominant win over darren. Till intimate events submits mr till in the third round via rear naked choke till had his moments early on. He had his moments a little bit later. But for the most part this is the derek brunson show he gets it. Done five wins in a row. He called for israel to sonya next and we will see if that is the direction the ufc in the middleweight division. Heads as we welcome you to the ufc vegas thirty-six post fight show ear on may fighting dot com. I am mike heck. I am not alone. Thank goodness we got my best friend. Prince a positively. "Savings. No please guys don't gamble on but we're just talking about. Who's going to win the fight. I don't care about odds or anything. I'm leaning towards brunson. I think like i said i like that. He has bigger emphasis on is grappling. I don't buy into the narrative that he can't win the big one even though he hasn't won the big one. You know what i mean. It's like i. It's of course you could say he hasn't won the big won because he hasn't he's lost to your well romero robert whitaker anderson silva which some allocco thought he won. So let's say but that's the desert win sure to block you'll have and then it a and and israel i decided like i just named five four and along that lists four of the best five middleweights of the last like six or like five or six years union anselm in there. If you want to spend how far you want us back but So he loses to the best. I don't know of till's on that level it'll be amazing of tale. Does add his name to that list. Because i mean it's kind of a broad list but still to say that those are the only people who beat brunson and put till and there would be nice together until cap. But i don't think there's anything inherently wrong with derek. Brunson where it's like. Oh we just can't beat this. I think it's again. He's lost some of the best and that happens. I don't think fills up there. So i think we see a lot more wrestling from brunson and i think we see mix it up a bit but like seventy five percent wrestling twenty five percents striking and i think he either wins. The decision or gets us submission in the third. Okay casey. what do you think going. Brenton forty nine forty eight forty nine forty six. I think it'll be a a competitive. But but i think we'll clearly not branches fighter and picking this mostly because i know more about brunson honestly i think brunson is just even at almost thirty eight years old. I really think that he has coming into his. He's not as athletic crime but his mixed martial arts prime and since that i really feel his whole skill set is maturity level of finally kind of matched up right. Where if he has to use the wrestling and just kinda grind out five rounds he can and and he says he has enough power and he's he's dangerous enough with his hands now that that is gonna open up his wrestling and now i feel like when he does get hurt and we went. Brenston does get hit hard. What you will get hit hard a couple of times in this fight. He doesn't pan a he. He isn't going to that robert. Whitaker thing we just kind of goes crazy. You know and i think he will. I think he will use that. Maturity and experience from oddest previous. No failures maybe at the biggest the highest level and i think he will get a A solid win on saturday night over there until yeah i. I'm leaning brunson as well. But this is one of those fights at least in my eyes and brunson's proven to be very durable and a lot more mature with with age and with experience. But i think he's got a survive like the first eight minutes of the fight. I think you can get through the first eight minutes whether the storm i think can grind away and get a win but i think this fight is a lot closer than a lot of people because i think a lot of people are around. Derek brunson to to win four rounds to one or something like that. I think this is a pretty close fight. I would not be shocked if we hear split. Decision city here brunson will win. I think i'll after those twenty five minutes. We'll feel confident. That derek brunson did enough to win it so so you were saying you think that like till will have the faster start. Maybe and and it's on brunson survived that and then and then greenwich or did you say we say the other way around i tell will start off real fast. I think he'll have some good moments. I think it's been so long man. He hasn't fought in a while. But this is part of the thing. I think better think this too. But it's like i don't know where this myth is that he is deadly knockout artists. He hasn't knocked anyone out or like had this like smoking like fast or really hurt anyone since. That's donald no you drop. He draws in the first round. I don't remember that at all. It.

"Brunson's very consistent but with those consistencies. He has consistently had a problem with a striker. He can't take down. Brunson gets frustrated. I know it because it was the problem in my career. So i can see what other guys have it when they have the same problem. I can see it if brunson comes out in his game plan is to take you down and he fails to take you down. He gets frustrated and things unravel very quickly. If you go see also too great fights if you wanna go back right if you're betting on this fight to great ones to see before you form your opinion anderson silva vs derek brunson derek. Brunson beat anderson silva. He lost the decision. He won the fight one of those nights. But he's in there with a great striker anderson. Brunson was successfully getting down at least part of the time so he didn't get frustrated his plan that he came in there with work at least part of the time it was enough to march him forward through fifteen minutes. The decision is history. The opposite happened when brunson oughta sonya he knew the blueprint he knew very clearly. I must take a sonya down and so did the rest of us because it was on the heels of artists on your inventory were vittori did take him down held them. They're frustrated oughta sonya so brunson knows what he needs to do when he failed to sign. You got his hips away. Got under kept him back on the feet. Brunson got frustrated. So it's it's one of those deals because in many ways this is the same fight it is till a striker. And he's great at it and he's weird. He's a very awkward approach. He twists the hips. He keeps his hands down. He goes southpaw. he goes orthodox. He looks like he's gonna kick when he's punching. He looks like he's gonna punch when he kicks. He's awkward adds to effectiveness. Good news for brunson even though it's the first time he's fighting till it's not the first time he's fought that awkward style. Okay we are going to have a long fight. I don't close my eyes and invention away that brunson gets till out of there. I can see ways that till stops brunson. I can see where till hurts it. But they're unlikely you're going to have a long drawn out contest and brunson has always impressed me with his ability to compete the harder the rounds get the more he's gotta dig the more grind and grimy gets he seems to rise to. I think that's the kind of fight that he's going to have picking

"Russell. Say what's up to fire nation and sheer something interesting about yourself. That most people don't new what's a fire nation <hes>. All right the first thing. I can think of the people probably know about me. Is that like i am. Deathly scared of cats have not touched the cat in over twenty years <hes>. The last time. I touched a cat and mice will shut for three days and i have not touched. A cat said the my in-laws are cat people. So i literally go their house and i stand there and don't touch it. Well i can tell you. Can kate sorry. It was actually a campus and she was growing up. Her family always had one or two times. And i was the opposite. I was always a dog person. Springer spaniels my whole life and finally during quarantine because we used to travel all the time. In fact you. And i are supposed to be out in fiji recently. We weren't able to do that and we had a bunch of trips are ozzy cancelled. So i finally able to convince kate to get a dog with me so we now we have got him when he was two months old. But now we have a seven month old golden doodle. His name is gas and one reason why you'll love him russell's because he's hypoallergenic no shedding which was what i needed. Not because i was allergic to anything but just like. That's the one thing i don't like about. Dogs is the shedding. So gus is the perfect dog. I love him to death and follow me on instagram. If you want to see. Some great dog gussied dog video so russell as i t's earlier during the introduction. We're talking today about how to sell almost anything that you can flip in dream of and you have helped so many people do just that for so many years. I've been an avid click. Finals promoter and user for years and years and years now multiple to calm clever wars. All the nine yards. I mean i absolutely love. Click finals. I wanted to bring you back on. Because you've done something recently that again you just stay out of the curve. You continue to revolutionize stuff for so long like webinars were just boring like slides and then they have a talking head from time to time. There's an like and then you came out with this webinar. It's so spectacular because it's not lake. It's like this. Unbelievably new groundbreaking knowledge. I mean it's such important fundamental knowledge that you need to know fire nation. But it's how he delivers it with the stories and then the cartoons and the videos in the mix and the mismatch like i literally russell went back and watched one of my webinars and i hate it now. Like i hate my webinar. Because you so. I'm gonna follow your lead. My man and i'm going to mix up fire nation. Ill fire dot com slash. Click webinar just go over there. Watch this webinars free. It's amazing will up your game and it will help your business for the content but also for the presentation style you fire dot com slash click webinar and the title is the weird almost backwards. Funnel secret that is currently being used by underground group of entrepreneurs including myself to sell almost anything you can of so russell. Break that down for us. Yeah definitely so the group of entrepreneurs these are like my tribe. My people right. We call ourselves funnel hackers and a lot of people like don't turn means initially and for us. It's like all about trying to reinvent the wheel and figure things out from the beginning. It's like let's look and see what's working currently right and so looking at other people's funnel people's businesses and looking at as a model then create something new and unique outlook and i think that <hes>. When i got started in business online. I thought i had to figure everything out. I was trying to be creative all the time and it really really struggled until i said that there's people who've been doing this for a long time and they're just trying to reinvent the will let me see what they're doing and what are the tweaks and changes. I can get my product or my service into the structure that they've proven his work and you know this is well anyone in in the online business like the art and the science right in the science doesn't change the framework. It's like the frame of a house right like that's that that doesn't change and so it was figuring what what's the framework. What's the funnel the things that we know work in the process that works the price points at work and then on top of that we. We've in our own art. Our own products our own messaging. And when you figure out how to do that we call funnel hacking. That's the that's the secret and now we've had people doing this. We have over one hundred hundred and twenty one hundred thirty thousand active members and click finals right now. We see it happening in every market in the world which has been so cool because it was kind of a new concept you know five or six years ago now. We're seeing it happen everywhere now. Literally i mean. I lost entrepreneurs on fire eight years ago and that didn't exist and i remember you coming and bringing of this phrase this term. You know this lifestyle back five six years ago. And i've washed it you know. Do it has done over the past five or six years. It's been absolutely amazing and fire nation. What we're doing next. We're going to go through the three main themes that russell talks about throughout the webinar. Now of course we're not gonna go into super depth on these because you're gonna watch the webinar for that and it's free and it's visual and it's beautiful and it's breathtaking at times like you need to watch for that reason but russell let's start with funnel hacking and how to ethically steel over a million dollars worth of funnel hacks from your competitor for under a hundred dollars. That's one benjamin taken away. Yes so this is something. I the concept i the principal i learn. Issue tony robbins. Who's a friend of both of ours. And tony said if you want to be successful in life you need to model those who are already successful and all parts of life. I like in in sports in business and everything and <hes>. And so for me. I remember i was at an event and i heard this guy <hes>. Showing one of his finals one time to talk about what they did how they did it and like all the money they spent all this stuff and i remember looking at that and i was like i'm never going to figure those things out and then for moment i stop and say what a minute. What if what. If i if i just looked at what he did and it looked like he had a product here and there was up selling the down so this was the process took someone to where if i took that again that framework and then i just weaved in my own product mountings into it and so i was kind of the idea. We'd have a name for back then. I would call frontal hiking today. But i i use that. And so i. This is before click funds probably seven or eight years ago is launching supplement at because i love supplements supplement. I know how to do it. So i found somebody who had to supplement funnel i looked at the structure. They'd proven would work to sell supplements. And i took that structure. I built my own supplement. You know put my own copy. My own words mount phrase by us use. There's is kind of a model like a business model. This is what we need to do and <hes>. And we launched it and it blew up and we got huge and what was cool about it was. i didn't have to go and do tons of market researcher. All these things. All i had to do is literally go to the person's funnel and buy their product like put my credit card on my wallet spent a hundred bucks. I bought the product. And i was able to see everything right what we see some his website or a page. And it's like the tip of the iceberg but by paying buying the person's product and bunnell hacking him as able to see oh after they after someone buys a product sell them with this and they down so at this and this is the process. After i saw the process look like as the model that for my supplement. And that's how we were up to grow supplement company

"Hey everybody who has been awesome. . So we're getting closer closer to Halloween depending when you're listening to this, , which Halloween was my favorite holiday for basically my entire life. . I went trick or treating until I was twenty one years old. . And those who are wake with Russell weren't you WANNA admission when you were nineteen and twenty and the answer is yes and yes, , I dressed up as a Mormon missionary going door to door because I already have the cost you got free candy. . It was awesome. . <hes> the good old days. . Anyway. . I'll trick or treating Halloween love everything. . In fact when my kids were born I was like this is the great thing world howling was amazing before it's even more amazing now and went trick or treating every single year until about three years ago three years ago was when I bought my Batman suit if you've seen. . We lost expert secrets are Philip. . Prizes to give away these Batman. . At ironman suits I got my own custom fitted was so cool. . And I was so excited because that is going to be Batman like legit Batman and I was in front suit and I was just so excited for it and remember it was long day at the office and got home as quick as I could and just trying to give your own the kids at wrestling practice wrestling practice and come back home and I'm getting more Reagan dinner. . Kept. . Race. . Back. . Yossi. . Batman student, , which is, , it's like an hour long project to get that suit on I'm so excited feeding the kids battery stack to the office and also doorbell rings and go the door, and , it's one of Ellie's friends and friends like, , Hey, , l. here my yeah wh, , what are you doing here? ? Coming to trick Ellie has like. . What? ? I triggered truth my kids. . Runs over. . Oh, , by data out mcnew, , you canton clutch like what am I? ? Triggered this is my my holiday. . You can take my daughter trick or treating, , and it only took off their friends she was gone and The boys got calls from their friends and we're going trick or treating and they took off. . And I remember I was ache I wasn't ready for. . I. . Don't know it's like the kids leaving home only worse. . I wasn't ready for it and I remember they were all gone and it was it was Aiden Nora? ? Tiny. . She's to at the time. . And so I didn't get my Batman suit on and they go to the car and. . You got your suit on everything. . Put it in a car seat. . My time we got in the car she passed out. . She was out cold as Aden in class we drove to this neighborhood <hes> ain't got out with started trick or treating and passed out in the car, , and that was like the saddest thing my wife I missed Halloween. . Comes to sitting down the kids are awesome. . They have friends. . For, , it you know what I mean like false fake you're planning your kids are going GonNa. . Leave the house someday and then Austin they just leave the preparation. . Anyway. . So how is my favorite holiday until that year and now? ? Holidays Fourth of July because I spend more money fourth of July, , any human, , and so because of that everybody comes to me and doing that to compensate for. . For Kids. . Anyway. . That's how I really feel. . I'm just joking anyway, that's , those true story. This . is the fourth of July is my new favorite holiday but. . I'm always with Halloween and so as how gets closer I still get excited I'm not gonNA, , love the lease falling into the seasons changing and Pumpkins and candy and like just all the things. . So one of our family traditions every year for Halloween go to. . Albion Idaho where there's this old college campus where an early nineteen hundreds a thriving college and nineteen. . Twenty or something that went out of business. So . it's been vacant for like one hundred years and a couple years back these family bought it and they renovated the whole thing in turn it into one of them, , the dorms interns like a bed and breakfast, , and then the rest of the turned to haunted houses like there's a Zombie House Claus and he's old creepy buildings from the early nineteen hundreds and anyway it's it's insane. . So we go every year this year to to our friends Rachel Peterson her husband Paul and they came with us which was really fun so anyway. . On the trip down Rachel says, , what are your favorite books you're right now Evanston, , asked me a question about books freeze 'cause I'm like. . There's so many like I'm obsessed with books I have more books than I know and I buy 'em every day tons board and read most of the books I listen to audio by the physical book too because I like having physical books in. . All sorts of turmoil. . I sat there like a deer in headlights thinking and <hes> and I kept thinking thinking and I realized like right now and stuff because you know it is different seasons your life there's. . Always, , kind of things so. . Anyway, , I <hes> in a season my life actually cited for. . I'm preparing not really a mentally thinking about my next book. . I think I told you before my next book. . I bought the domain bootstrap dot com books called bootstrapped, , and it's going to be the final story how he did it. . Because my other books have been how to books right like how to get traffic, , how to build a funnel, , how to copy things like that but it's not gonna be how this is the story of it. . I've been obsessed like listening to books about companies and people telling their story about how they built a company and so. . I've been listening to a lot of those lately just like understand how to write that way. . How to tell stories that is different is different than how I've typically done things. . So for me to be able to write this book to change my skill set and this hopefully is aside lesson for everyone like lot of times when we do the thing we wanna do to like. . Do. . We have to learn something completely different writing. . If you business before you come into our world. . Oh my gosh businesses, , different online they we have to change how we think of meets same way for me to write six book like I learned how to write differently. . and. . Understand that respect that and paying attention to him trying to learn it so. . Anyway. . So been listening to audio books about companies about their stories come here how people tell their stories so my three books recommend hugh today are all books about people's companies And they're good for companies number one, , they're fascinating books that were to really good. . Storytellers the way they tell their story was fascinating where I was like sucked into the book and I couldn't stop. . In fact to these books, , I've listened to twice and one. . Will probably listen to again I just finished that yesterday. . So that's why I hadn't listened to it twice yet. . Now's referee. . I don't normally read things twice because I have so many books coming into both of two of the three books have already listened to twice, , which is a testament how good of a story that they actually are. . So without said in no particular order, , I'll give you my three. . Bucks Number One book. . This one I'm nervous about because. . It's like the dark side of Entrepreneurship Kate. . You a lot of times you hear stories about who also built a company and it's like this positive thing and there's ups and downs and trials and tribulations but for the most part, , it's like the positive experience, , right? ?
