"A landmark Supreme Court decision last summer on the Second Amendment is now upending gun laws across the country. The Supreme Court's so called Bruin decision in a New York case has changed the test that lower courts had used. For evaluating challenges to firearm restrictions, judges should no longer consider whether the law serves public interest, such as the enhancement of public safety. Gun control groups are raising alarm as they point to some recent cases in which laws have been declared unconstitutional, like keeping guns out of the hands of domestic abusers. Felony defendants and people who use marijuana. Along with overturning federal bans, an owning homemade ghost guns or guns with the serial numbers removed. "You've got a top 6 weapon and astronaut. Like you've got a core in place that you can build around. It's all about, I think you look at the rangers and how they supplemented the rest of the core with either draft thing as you said with the kid line or what have you. If they can keep this corn place the bruins and you're filling out some of those holes with internal options that are sitting you money. And you're picking your spots correctly. Instead of maybe going out and signing a bunch of free agents to plug up holes in the third line fourth line. That's where you have your younger players fill in there and you save that money to then drop it on a guy like a Panera or in the bruins case back when they were building that core, as you said, that's when you spend money on survive and Chara, right? You pick your spots, then put yourself over the top with this score as opposed to using that money to kind of sign veteran guys. So again, the bruins are still ways away. I think for maybe having as promising of a Quora as this rangers team does have, but they're falling kind of similar formula that you took 15, 20 years ago. And everyone's probably why it's kind of followed that similar strategy as opposed to blowing things up and hoping just hoping to fall into a top three pick, you know, further down the line. You know, it's funny, I'm looking at the rangers lines right now and you look at that third line, the kid line, right? Where you have left heel and kaco. And normally you would expect cock out your two high first round picks to be in your top 6. In their case, it's almost like flipped around. They're in the bottom 6. But you're still not spending a lot on that their line. Whereas we're going to seem like the bruins who spent quite a bit on depth last year because they did not have the draft picks or prospects that they felt could slot in on those third lines. That's an issue. That's one area where the rangers did it right, the bruins have not done it right. Where you're spending 4 million on Nick foligno, you know, money on no sec, things like that. That's where it does different. Now, again, they also gave a ton of money to like Barclay goodrow, right? So that is one area. Sammy blay, and they gave up, and that just mind numbing trade. But again, it's funny that it's interesting the rangers are back. Because remember this off season we're all going, what are they doing? They fired gorton, they wanted to get tougher and bigger, they brought in like Ryan Reeves, you know, they went out and made some really weird moves, but the core of the team didn't really change. It was the outer part of it that did. And so they're back. They're actually developing. And again, I think it's good for the NHL when the rangers are good. There are lessons to take, though, and I think the biggest one is you have to draft and develop well outside of you got to hit on your second and third round picks. And even your fourth round picks, like I just think that that's important. You see what this brewing steam. Think about if they'd hit on a few more of those second round picks or third round picks. I mean, obviously we point to the 2015 draft. But you know, just around that time period, might be in a different spot. It might be a different spot. Lindgren also, by the way, was Bruin formerly..

"So if David creepy is available and he wants to come back, I think that's a guy that you have to target or the Bruin should definitely give him a call or two or three before this summer. TV's wanted to come back because not only do I think are you going to have that production? I don't think he's also going to break the bank either. And again, whether it's not trading prospects, whether it's not spending $7 million a year on a guy like kadri, for example, who's going to be 32 next season. It just makes plenty of sense if you're the bruins. All right, next up is Joe Moore, who says, who are the three most likely players gone this off season? Well, I think the one guy that kind of hinges on that question is bergeron, which I think we've already talked about that it seems like there's no set clarity. But in terms of most likely guys outside of bergeron, I think definitely a guy like Curtis Lazar, who filled in admirably for the bruins as a fourth line, solid foot soldier. I think he's going to be one of many bruins players who have done very well in that fourth line. It's going to max out his value and cash in with another team. And I think as much as I'm bruins really liked what Lazar brought. I think you look at ways to add more youth to this lineup, the easiest way is starting with that fourth line and whether that's guys like Oscar's theme or mocking laughlin or Johnny beecher. Freeing up space by wedding, Lazar, go elsewhere to cash in. Seems to be a proper move to I think for the ruins to take. So I don't think it was our will be here. I think folino is a pretty safe bet that based on how digestible that buyout contract is. I think he's the guy that's going to be on the move. And then I think one of Riley grows like Santa's a pretty other logical guy that ends up getting shipped out here. And if you want to look at maybe some other guys, I think maybe got a Craig Smith could be a guy that could be sent packing in terms of just the cap space and freeing up a spot on the lineup for, you know, it's a guy like glycol going to be ready. As much as I think people were like, all right, let's sell shows anything in training camp just like stick them in the top 6 and be good to go. I think if you want to build up his game or maybe it's starting on the third line and working his way back up because he's already going to have kind of the tough road in front of him as a 19 year old trying to break into the NHL. So if you move Smith, get a return whether it's draft picks or something else and you free about 3 million in cap space and it opens the door for a guy like myself to kind of cut his teeth. The NHL. That could be a logical move for the bruins as well. All right, let's see. Next one's from bruins fan 93, who says, is there someone from Providence that you see making an impact for the bruins next year? Well, I think the obvious ones are guys like Oscar Christine and Mark McLaughlin who already made pretty solid impressions this year and whether it's Liza going elsewhere in free agency. Felino getting bought out or even got like no sick, getting dealt for a low round.

"But it's enough of a pattern at this point that there's something going on. It could be them moving to water. It could also be them moving for another bear. One thing to think about when you're hunting that later season. If you see a bear, that's by itself, and you go, ah, that's not a very interesting, maybe it's a young bear, whatever. Continue to watch that trail where that bear is moving through. Because if it was a sow, either is a very high likelihood that if you continue to watch that, another bore might pick up that scent and then move through that trail. There's been so many times where I've seen a bear and go, oh no, that's not a bear we're looking for. And then 15, 20 minutes later, an hour later, here comes another bear on that same trail and go, wait, is that the same oh wow, that's a big bore. And we move in and make it happen. So those are all things to think about and some really good tactics when it comes to focusing on bears. The end of May and 3 June. I hope you guys enjoyed that and maybe gleaned a few tips about that late season. Maybe you got a bear tag in your pocket. And you're like, I didn't make it happen earlier in the year, but where you hunt still open. Utilize some of those things focusing on essentially bear buffets, those places where Elk and deer calving. And then also thinking about some other tactics if it gets hot out. Bear hunting in the heat sucks, but maybe think about focusing on water, or maybe go back to an area where you saw bears, but nothing you can shoot. Maybe it's just an area with sows and then focusing on there and see if maybe something else has moved into that spot. So just a few things to think about. And I definitely wanted to hit on some late spring bear hunting because we got so many questions about bears and bear tactics in the Q&A. So today, if you're listening, it's a Thursday at noon Pacific time..

"And then I started to notice, as the temperatures started getting hotter, it was like frequency of bear, bear. And in one particular wallow, I had as many as 9 bears on one of these cameras. So it just really opened my eyes and saying, oh, that's just one little water source. And then there's a couple other places I hunted where there wasn't as much water. And I'd be walking the creek up or down, you know, going in or out and spotting bears. I'm like, okay, connect the dots and say, okay, later in the season, is that temperature gets hotter. If you hit it right, if you get those early summer weather, that early heat, focusing in on water sources and just kind of slow hunting or still hunting waterways, finding areas where there's not a lot of water and focusing in on that water can actually be a really efficient way to narrow down where the bears are, a certain time of year. And that's with the right higher temperatures. I'd say like 70° and up, but it depends on where you are and kind of like the terrain. If it's really timbered and really thick country, maybe higher temperatures, but for the most part, that late spring, 65, 70° is plenty for to drive bears to that water source to cool down as well as to get a drink. So it's not necessarily a place that you need to just sit on if you don't know bears are coming in and out of, but maybe places to concentrate your efforts, looking into those places, saying like, oh, hey, there's a wallow over here. There's a creek in this drainage, but there's not one in the other side. It's really brushy and wet in here. Maybe I'll focus my attention there as opposed to somewhere else because it's narrowing down the places that bears are going to be. Now another thing to think about, one thing is in that in the end of May through June is actually when bears rut..

"And Elk start dropping their calves. And that's just essentially an easy picking buffet for bears. They can smell really well. It takes nothing for them to kill a thon or kill a calf. The only time that often they'll get spooked away by the herd. But for mule deer, especially the doze will leave the fawns kind of as a safety measure. And I feel like it obviously works, right? They've evolved to do that. But for a lot of areas, there's just too many bears that can find those fonts, and it's an easy snack. So for me, I like to focus in on those areas and find those bears that are that's their primary food source. And it is a reliable food source. It's fairly easy to find too because Elk and deer only in a few areas. The primary places that they like to drop the calves are places where, especially when it comes to Elk, places where there's easy food where they've got good cover where they've got everything kind of nearby and can also keep an eye on the herd. When it comes to mule deer, same thing, right? It's going to be out of the snow more mild terrain than maybe some of that big back country, cliffy rocky, open stuff that you might hunt early in the season. So you're going to be finding those more south facing slopes, the more gentle terrain, the kind of places that I described where maybe it's a new burn with it's got good new growth, a good place is for deer to hide, but also kind of everything that may be a dough would need to take care of a faun and a place to drop funds. And then they'll start to congregate. They concentrate where they're fawning because it's a safety numbers game. If there's a bunch of eyes looking out, then they can kind of help protect the other deer or the other Elk from predators. So I essentially use my optics and whatever to find the food source, the bait, the live bait, Elk and deer, primarily groups with doughs and fawns, right? Because that's going to be what they're going to be the bears are generally going to look at. It's a lot easier for them to take down the helpless font that's just hiding in the bushes than to run down a cow or a dough. So I like to find those areas that really have good concentrations of females that are fawning or calving. And that's something to focus on. Now another food source, they'll start to switch from some of that I know you think about it like, okay, as the spring progresses, you get more and more food, you get more and more foliage. So now we've got to think about places where maybe something's a little more limited, so I'll try to actually focus on those more open areas because there are other plant species that bears focus on in those calving areas, things like different types of tumors and roots of different plants and balsam REITs one..

"I've got my bow. Because it's just like such close country. I figured I might as well just be bow hunting. So I'm planning on like, okay, I'm going to make a stock and the bear starts moving off, so I'm going to try to cut him off. So I start moving down the ridge above him. And it was a big bear. And he just kind of disappeared. He got onto this next ridge, and he was just cruising. So I figured, all right. Well, I'll come back to the next day. I kept hunting in there, but I didn't want to really blow my scent out either. And I just kind of kept working around and never turned him back up. So I did the exact same thing the next day. So I'm going down, I'm about near the same spot where I spotted that bear. And I spot a bear. And it wasn't the same bear as the day before. It was just a different pair. So I don't know if maybe a sour had been moving through or in that area, maybe there was a hot sow in there. This is a different board, the one before it was like a dark black with a brown muzzle. And this one was pretty close to the same size, just more of a cinnamon light backed color bear. So I'm like, oh, sweet. And now this bears feeding on something. Which I'm assuming is pieces of baby deer. So I see the deer, the bear and he's feeding, and then he starts to move off and he just kind of sits down and he's just looking around. So I start to stalk you and I drop I drop my pack, took off my shoes and start creeping in because it was a little bit loud in there. And creamy and ranging. He was about 90 yards when I started. And just using the trees to block his eyes. And as he moves, I'm just moving over using different trees to get in close. The wind is good, but it just sounds like everything is just so loud. It's one of those days where you feel like you snap a twig and the bear is just going to run off and he's looking around. He's fairly alert..

"By mountain tough and Yeti. I partnered with mountain tough because a lot of the tactics and hunt styles I talk about in this podcast require you to be in the best physical shape you can. Their app is designed for hunters to get you ready for the backcountry or any hunt you have planned this fall. Yet he's been a longtime supporter of mine and they make some of the toughest products out there that are built to last and they're built for the wild. Welcome back to the podcast everyone. So this week we're going to take a look at a few late spring bear hunting strategies and really focusing in on hunting bears and the end of May and throughout June. There's still a few places the spring seasons open that time and later spring can be a very productive time to hunt. If you know where to focus your attention. Now while that early spring has its advantages, knowing what to look for later in the season can definitely boost your success and help you get into range on a buzzer beater bear. But before we do that, I want to share the story of a bow range black bear that was looking for some baby deer steak. So this hunt takes place, I'd say the end of the first week in June, and that's actually probably one of my preferred times the hunt. I don't know if it's necessarily the best time to hunt, but it's just the time that I always have set aside, so because of that, I find myself out there and have picked up a few tactics that I really have found a lot of success with. And so in this particular hunt, I have this area that I'd found where it was kind of like recently burned. So the burden was more of a patchwork type burn. So it burned out some area that was like pretty clear burned out so you could see into it pretty good. Then there's a few Meadows around. And then it also there's patches that didn't burn, but maybe burn some of the underbrush and what had happened was because of that. All this green grass started popping up, and it was just, it looked pretty lush, a lot of nutrients. And what that did is it started to attract Elk and deer that would be calving or fawning. This particular spot, primarily, I started noticing a lot of mule deer in it, especially because I like to hunt milder, I figured, well, I'll go hunt, I'll go hunt bears in an area where there's potential mule deer fawns because if I'm going to hunt a.

"Twitter, likelihood, Sweeney's resigned. I would say it's fairly high as I just said. I don't see him not getting resigned. Just given again, if this was an outside journal manager, if this guy, they hired off the street. A few years ago, and then it's different. But again, he's been in the organization, knows it, like former Bruin. I don't see them moving on from him. Jacob asked for a year by year oral history of the bruins dating back all the way to 1924, Jacob. Let's start right now. We'll do it straight through. No. Hell yeah, that'd be so fun. I podcast, which is an oral history. Just going through the hockey reference page of every single thing that happened every year. Milt Schmidt scored this game and we get all into those things, but yes, very interesting history will not be going through it in full. They usually try to keep the episodes between like 30 and 40 minutes. That would be much longer. Much, much longer. And I think there's some years recently that people wouldn't want to hear normal history of springing back to bad memories. DK score fantasy points. Asks, should the bruins be selling instead of buying? I just don't see any addition giving the bruins a good shot at the cup. At the valid point. So here's my counter to this because I think DK, I think you're right. And Gavin asked this on YouTube community as well. So both of you guys. I think you have a real point. You know, if you had JT Miller to this lineup, are you now better than the Maple Leafs or the lightning? Probably not. No, I don't think your favorite against those guys. And again, my prediction for the second half is that the bruins upset the pants in the first round. I believe that's still gonna happen. But against Tampa is JT Miller like set you over them, I don't think so. You know, getting lindholm, hit fist Linton on the back end or, you know, a depth guy on D does that set you above those teams? No..

"I don't want to win a championship. But I understand that. I do. I get it. You love the bruins. That's the team you want to win, but to me, I think who's a great dude. Always wish you would have won one here should have won one here. I should have won two here. Maybe even more. But I like when guys go elsewhere and find some success. Good guys. And toy krug, as you all know, was a very good guy, is a very good guy. So to me, I look at krug as someone who I hope finds success. I know many of you will disagree. I don't love the idea of the blues winning a Stanley Cup, especially with Jordan Bennington. I could go without Bennington winning another cup. You know, kind of a cocky kid, annoying. Maybe not the greatest human in the world. But at the same time, I would like to see krug succeed elsewhere. So I did like seeing him score in the winter class. I did. As for the actual winter classic, no one asked not the one or classic or anything, but I'm still gonna talk about it because I think it's a fun event. I thought it was really cool this year. Baseball stadiums. They've kind of done the good ones. They've done Fenway. They've done Wrigley, so it's hard to do like another historic one. They did Dodger Stadium for the stadium series a few years ago. To me, this one had the elements, right? The freezing freezing freezing cold is like negative 8 at puck drop. Guys, water frozen in their beards could not have been comfortable to play in. My guess is those guys probably wouldn't want to play in those conditions again. But nonetheless, a cool event, really cool event. And it's funny, I saw Pete Blackburn tweet something similar to this. I hope they do away with stadium series, just because that kind of diminishes the value of an outdoor game, especially the winter classic. 'cause like, oh, we're just gonna play outdoors in these places, but what I would love to see is kind of what the what the NHL did with like Lake Tahoe. Where you have this huge event, beautiful place. You know, money be damned, who really care, you know, obviously I know they want to make money. I know they want, you know, full stadiums. I know they want people at the games. But, man, Tahoe is perfect. Like the scenery and just the backdrop and the whole Lake Tahoe experience was so cool to see..

"Bet online, your online sports book experts. Go there now. All right, so we're gonna play a game called two breakout candidates. I'm coming here and two candidates step back. This is exciting. It's a real catchy name. Yeah, this is very blunted to the point. Yeah, very creative. But Connor, you will do the two breakout candidates, and I will be in charge of crushing people's dreams with the two candidates who take a step back. So I will let you start. Do you want to do one than one than one? I want to do two and two. What do you want to do? We'll switch off. Okay. All right, so if I'm going first, I think the one guy who could be a breakup candidate is what I think. Burns are hoping for is leanness old Mark. I think you don't sign that guy to a four year $20 million contract, if you don't think that he's got a lot more to give, and I think it's easy to draw the comparables between him and a guy with Yara slav hawak who when the Bruin signed him to that deal, he looked at the baseline numbers. You're like, all right, is this guy washed? He's already kind of an older veteran guy. Like, what does this guy have? But you look closer to the numbers, and I was before Barry trucks with the islanders that was back when they had like a sieve of a defense in New York. So the fact that his numbers were, all right, with that defensive front room, kind of more or less painted a picture that is still a very capable goalie, especially she's got a better defense in front of them. What do you know, he looked pretty good here. So if you're getting a guy like Omar, who played in front of the frigging sabers and had like a 9 17 percentage last year. That's pretty impressive. I mean, you look at this some flaws that you have to work in his game. Obviously, you know, I think is like PK save percentage is pretty low, which is a little bit concerning. So they have to work on that. But I mean, you look at his 5 and 5, say percentage last year, I think it was like 9 37, which I think is higher than like, that's the levski flurry, carry price, all these kind of established guys. So moving to a system in Boston where the defense is structures a lot better. I mean, they were fortunately goals against as much people say, last year's defense was.

"And welcome in to poke the bear episode 58. The air hole back in 9 in episode. There are only three players ever to wear the number 58. I looked it up before. So we didn't have to do like last time with 57 where we were scrambling last minute to look it up. Check out cocky reference. Yes. A high reference is great for that, by the way. They have all the players also. I actually looked ahead, so I have some people in the back pocket for upcoming episodes. We're getting into those weird numbers. But I'm in office alongside Conor Ryan Connor. How are we doing? Evan, doing well. How you doing? I'm doing great. We will open the show with a the sad news obviously of Jimmy Hayes is passing the dropped Monday morning unfortunately. I came after Bruin speed. So for those wondering why that wasn't touch number one speed, it happened or got released right after we recorded, but just awful news horrendous news, one of the saddest stories I think it locally, we've had here in a long time. Just given what he meant to Boston, especially dorchester. I mean, a lot of people articulated it well. He lived the dream of every kid, you know, plays in dorchester, plays a BC once a national championship plays for the bruins. It just awful. Just absolutely awful. And I'm interested to hear your thoughts on the whole thing. Yeah, no, I mean, I think you've more or less echoing what you've said in terms of it just being an absolute tragedy. I mean, for, I think what we've seen in the last couple of days in terms of the outpouring of. Grief and the discussions of just who Jimmy was and how we kind of carried himself growing up in Boston that I wasn't didn't really know him all that well. You know about that whole family and just how connected they are and how rooted they are in the hockey community and whether it be guys who play with them or people who just knew the family and knew him growing up. You couldn't hear a single bad word ever said about him just so he carried himself and, you know, you know, happy go lucky attitude and always trying to focus on the positives. And even when he played here, obviously, didn't work out that way, and I'm sure he got a whole bunch of you know flat during those times and it's tough being a local guy playing under that pressure, but I think times and had a very good call about it talking about Jimmy during a time and how he still kept a positive mindset and more or less said you know I'm still, as you said, Evan, he's living the dream and I think that means a lot to people in the neighborhood because I think everyone grows up, you know, hoping to be a hockey player. Hopefully you get to play for your hometown team and he got to live that and it's one thing to do that, but also another thing..
