"Ask you This this Video and quote from your from your quarterback Tom brady has gone viral where he was talking. I guess it was an inhouse conversation with gras. A gronk there and mike evans. I don't know if you've seen the soundbite were brady saying that. The league throwing flags on defensive players for hitting an offensive player. That is so-called In a defenseless that it's sometimes on the offensive player in the quarterback in though and the and the wide receivers pro. It's their fault for running into the defense and not knowing it And making themselves defenceless and Quarterback putting a baller certain spot in that offensive player should have a certain responsibility on keeping offensive players. Healthy don't leave it to the defense. Did you see that. And if not what do you think of that. We we actually had a long conversation We were we were on a second. Hold the other day playing golfing rain on us. Oh okay nice. Conversation about the rule changes. In how you know again you can throw the ball into the flat and cover tune. The guy goes blown up. Quarterbacks you get the penalty not not to guy hit me right. And so it's like you know they make the onus on defense so so hard anymore and to strike strike zone. You can only bent gas colleague ben so far. The guy you're tackling has been down and you've been down your heads are gonna hit. You got shoulder pads on you know what i mean So i i'm not all for all the rules i'm player safety sure but Some of them are getting out of hand. Well sure like so. So brady's statement or that comment might have been asked a direct question. I don't know what the question was was kind of born out of his on his is on his mind because the two of you had a conversation during a rain delay in golf. So what you said very summer. Okay all right. I love the origin stories about that. Sort of stuff coach. Thanks for the call. Best your family. Let's do this During the season and have a great kickoff against the dallas cowboys. The whole country's watching as you know you bet. Thanks you gotta. Bruce arians always great to talk to bruce arians here on the rich eisen. Show the hce of the tv guys. Tampa bay buccaneers. He's not in his chair. Is it true. He left midway through that conversation to go pop some popcorn in the oral reddin bacher popcorn machine that he received as a parting gift or he won pardon me he wants to get out of contestants wrote where he got it in the master key game he blew he got it got a key. 'cause he nailed that right as a seven dollars a seventy four dollar correct corners. Yeah man correct okay. Yeah so he did. He needed like ten minutes to kinda pop. Some we're going to have pop here we're wandering for his. Tj's big ass grab bag. He's big for his five. Were wondering what he's figuratively cooking up. But we know what he's literally literally cooking up some butter popcorn right now. Okay and you're out. Tj done okay. Come on come on in a frame you know. It's not like old school where we can't see. Okay let's take a break. We'll come back. This has to be fun. And let's just hope none of us. Actually get a colonel in the back.

"Thanks to tom. Brady and to particularly a shout out to nelson louise the vice president of communications with the with the bucks. I've been talking to him for a while about trying to get brady. And and he was very helpful in it and i really appreciate him His work and making so many people available to me when when i was in tampa for just a day last week. So let's move on to our interview with bruce arians. I enjoyed this conversation. Because i think it gives you a little bit of a feel of how arians is going to approach this year and just how different it is this year from last year. Here's bruce arians. With bruce arians the head coach of the super bowl champion. Tampa bay buccaneers. I have to ask you. Has your life changed now. You've won super bowl. You've coached a super bowl winner. Never gets old brother being introduced as that never gets old but You know finally after the ring ceremony we could put last year to bed and and get this team focused on this year job and put it in review mirror but Yeah that that part never gets you know. It was almost exactly ten years ago a decade ago. That you've got either depending on how you term it either fired or not renewed by the pittsburgh steelers and part of you thought. Well that's it. You're riding off into the sunset. And i wonder could you have ever imagined a that. You were going to coach another ten years and be that this would have happened. No not a million years You know One storybook book year change dollar lives. You know chuck's phone call to come to india ghana in the colts. Yeah he makes that call. We go to indianapolis and You know we're driving the road and my wife looks at the phone show. Shit you're gonna take this job. Wait till to see what he's got a but When when chuck got leukemia and got sick and they got an opportunity to to take over. It opened up all those doors that we're never going to open. And i knew they were never gonna open and it's a shame that took chuck to get sick for to happen but Life is funny man. It takes some crazy turn sometimes but just two more questions about you. That really interest me. Remember at that time even after you had the coach of the year season in indianapolis the only interim coach ever to do so. You still go through the first seven jobs of that postseason without getting a sniff. Seven jobs get filled. The only job left is the arizona cardinals and luckily you get that job but just imagine if they hire somebody else maybe. Maybe you're never head coach. Oh i i doubt i ever would have been you know. I took the chicago interview first. And then came back and really wasn't even going to take the arizona one because kenny wizard. How and russ grimm and kevin spencer those guys while went on super bowl within pittsburgh and i would have to let some of those guys go. We're good friends inside. I called kenney said bro. i don't know if i can take this interview. And he really talk me into take an interview while so let's go to the present tense now. You and your general manager jason. Light have brought everybody of great importance back to this team. The coaches are backed front offices back. Probably you're twenty five. Most important players are all back to me. That seems almost a blessing and a curse. Because you don't have a lot of new blood here. How has it been so far for you. Spent fantastic jason mike greenberg. jackie davison. Just did an unbelievable job of getting everybody back. And we're very fortunate with the hiring process happened before the super bowl. There's no doubt my mind had to hiring process happened. After the coaches for coaches have lost tight end byron and You also have your coaching staff. We even have staff meetings. We've been together so long. Everybody knows what to do where to go. How to do it and Coach coaches is harder than and players. And so as i have them back. Have all the players back to top twenty five to thirty guys. Then i thought we'd jason just hit a home run with the draft and the influx of new young guys that are gonna make big impacts on this football team and giovanni bernard talk about his impact early. Yeah was one of the guys really targeted in free agency. And it was a great interest on his part. Great interest on our part in a veteran back. That's solid pro person and fight football player. But he gives us a pass catching guy out of the backfield. That's been there and done it. And he's been a blessing in a lot of ways because of his preparation. He's one of those meticulous preparing guys. Nothing's going to surprise him in a ballgame Younger players are there any. Is there a downside at all to bring everybody back the whole idea. Maybe some people are complacent. Now i think with with the everybody's think thought would be complacency would be the problem. And you know. I gave all the veterans the entire spring off and We brought in forty five young players looking for about ten fifteen spots and mostly were special teams. So we spent the entire. Ota's with them. Then we brought the vets in for the mandatory mini camp. When you have dante david in. And i'll even throw devon young as years but devon white devon jason pierre paul shag dominance all the leaders. We have on defense. There's no complacency but the competition between our offense in our defense is relentless every day. Because they're both really top five in their Rain ranking so they wanna win every day and with brady on offense. They're not gonna be any complacency. I promise you what's brady lake in year. Two with the bucks it's night and day. I mean he knows how to get to work first of all. He knows where where to stop where to get groceries. All those things that that that affect your life but the terminology it just flows now. He seemed pictures in his brain when he calls the play. He knows the picture in his brain last year was just a bunch of words. What the hell's at me all the way up to by week nine It was it was just a learning process. Us learning him how to make him. Comfortable byron did just unbelievable job. I get way too much credit for anything that happens offensively. It's all byron and So now he can be more vocal he can even a better leader Because he'd really knows what the hell he's doing. You know what. I really remember about being here last year. Exactly one month before your first game of the season to give people an example of how difficult it was last year exactly one month. I saw the first practice where he huddled with his offense. Imagine you don't you don't get in a huddle with your teammates because a cova because of all the restrictions until thirty days.

Antonio Brown, one such fighter reportedly threw punches. And ended up being thrown out of practice but is not expected to get punished. Brawls also forced the Rams Raiders joint practiced and early

McVay in Better Mood, Says He's Better Coach With Stafford

"Story will bring back in. Involves these relationships in the nfl between coaching quarterback that we've talked about several times when you have that you know you got something special when the coach and the quarterback are on the same page when they kind of have that unity. You saw what. What tom brady. And bruce arians able to do right away You obviously see what you have in kansas. City greg's andy. Reid patrick mahomes these. These duos are very important. We thought maybe. Sean mcvay jared goff where we're going to be that power couple. They did get to a super bowl but then things broke up pretty quickly there. And sean mcvay is this guy that clearly is the excitable one out of the two right is that goes without saying so mcveigh. Listen to how he talks about how he feels about now having matthew stafford at his as his quarterback and he did this during a press conference to promote the super bowl in. La in the rams head coach. Let's just say gushed very heavy. Thank you seem like you're in a better mood aussies. You're damn right. I am so this guy He's a special guy. One of the best ways that i can describe him when you hear people that have been around him. There's a there's a known confidence where it when he walks into a room noah's field presence but he's got a great humility about himself at. Everybody loves being around him and he's one of those guys that is it true igniter makes everybody around him better. I feel like i can come up better. Coaching a few months that we've been able to spend together and we're looking forward to get things together. Sounds pretty excited about this new relationship. He's got about stafford and all he can bring in all he's already brought to the franchise what it means to him. "First time podcast. Guest longtime listener mark silverman. Espn one thousand co host of waddle and silvy two to six every day on espn. One thousand. I am going to go and i had a list the other day on the show of seventeen quarterbacks who could be hat or who could be on the move and out of all of those if i have to pick one. I'm going to go jimmy garoppolo. I believe san francisco's in a position. Right now where they have a really good thing going and they want to replace jimi g. since he's been injury prone i think you can get jimmy g. for cheaper than he's been whether he's caught you could sign up for cheaper free agent deal. He may want to go back to new england. Maybe bella jack doesn't want him but ryan pace eastern illinois guy also Fellow good-looking guy. Just like with trubisky could veer that way as well. So i'm going jimmy g. And as a close second maybe gruden gets rid of derek carr and the bears would trade for garrett car but those are my two if you force me to pick one. I'm going with jimmy garoppolo.

Can Tampa Bay Win A Second Straight Super Bowl

"Well in just his first season with the team brady has already brought a title to tampa buccaneers controlled. Much of last night's thirty one to nine super bowl win and brady is poised to keep winning saying after the game quote. We're coming back. You know that we do know it. And i personally love it shared. And how do you feel about is brady. Started his second dynasty in tampa skip out of his tour to detail. And if you made me say yes to say no. There's a reason why no team had repeated and sixteen years because it's hard to do and you see. Injuries are big part of this. So because we saw what happened to chiefs offensive line. They lose basically three starters and they're not the same team that they took to the super bowl the previous year. They're not even the same super bowl that would that finish the afc championship game. So injuries player key role in And plus a lot of things have to go well the injuries during the course of the season. I don't believe the pandemic. I think we're getting more and more vaccines arm and President biden was talking about last night. Say i expect the pike house for super bowl fifty six. Hopefully that's the case. Where is so fi here. Oh you're be out. I thought i'd be right over luma and plus get if you think about it. They got shack bags. A free agent. Labonte david i believe. They bite price themselves out of contracts tampa although they might be willing to take less money to come back to people. It's with jack man. Considering that he was an undrafted free agent and leave any money on the table of. Aren't they david that might be something dominant. So leonard fournette and tonio brown gronk. I believe a couple of those guys you can get back on the cheap but skipped the only have thirty guys on the contract for next year. The next is a that is forty two in the nfl their fifty three man roster only thirty the contract So who comes. Who goes is so hard to repeat because the turnover is so great now what we know right now for the most part. All the coaches are coming back. Tob old didn't get a job by relent. We didn't get a job and so for what we can see right. Now get the coaching staff. We'll be back in full. There was some speculation. That bruce arians if they won this one would would see the the head coaching to talk balls and maybe either being the background or walk into the sunset. I think this was such a headache experience for him at his age. He'd say i gotta take another shot. Hey could you remember. Meal did that and he later regretted he came. Back out of retirement ended up coaching kansas city. Yeah because he felt he made a decision out of emotion. That was the wrong decision. So maybe a fist back a couple of months but it's hard to repeat. There's a reason why there have only been in an full of teams now in the last thirty years. That's ever done it because it's so hard to cobb was dated. We did it and the patriots did it.

The GOAT Whisperer: The Man Who Lured Tom Brady To Tampa

"So greg first question. Where are you right now. I have met the media center for the super bowl which is in the tampa convention center. Kinda for all that around downtown tampa but is not quite busy here yet. So it's a little bit still kind of thought out. I'm sure in in forty eight hours. It'll be crazy here. Well greg sunday will be the first time that a super bowl is played in the home city of one of the two competing teams. What is the feeling in tampa right now. In the up to the game as you walk around drive around you feel a super bowl frenzy even in this pandemic couple days city is enjoying a run like it's never had. He had the stanley cup at world series in october. God and now. I think just making the boy. I would have been a big step for this team but see them win. Three road playoff games. And now be as you said in a super bowl in their own stadium. It's been a wild six months for tampa or to be sure we wanted to pick your brain a little bit about the guy who many people credit with building this bucks super bowl team. Gm jason light when he joined the bucks seven years ago. This team was more or less in disarray. How has he rebuilt it. I think he's done a very good job of drafting three touchdown. She'll back to this. First draft is fourteen. Taking mike evans been a pro bowl. Receiver has reset all the receiving records already. Big exclamation shows tied his own tampa bay record with his wealth reception for a touchdown this year. Tom brady just set the new fifteen two starting offensive linemen and their left tackle donovan smith and they're left guard alley pat and then really you look at the last three draft. That's defense has come. I think they have seven. Vincent starters that are from the last three drafts talent collectors. Were finding the right fifth buildings championship team. There's a veteran presence traded for jason pierre paul from the giants and hit on him and consumers thirty four and still a very high level the this is a good mix of young. It's really worth well. Even jason light was putting pieces into place. And you know sort of building the backbone of this team. This team wasn't doing particularly well and nfl. Owners of course are not known for their patients. So why did. The buccaneers stick with light. Even as this team continued to miss the playoffs year after year after year you go back to the end two thousand eighteen and then made the decision to fire dirk cutter coach dirk cutter. He is now officially relieved of his duties by the team. And in this statement. The buccaneers say that gm jason light will lead the new search. So that means light will get. I think in most situations they probably would have moved on from jason light his gm as well. He did really well in that he kind of pulled out an important card. And was there gateway to getting bruce arians. I gotta say jason's main reason. I came back in coaching and i knew how good of an evaluator was having worked with him. And we say we share the same vision workers in arizona in twenty thirteen adding when it came time for the bucks to be looking for a head coach. He kind of got them. In with bruce arians gave the bucks somebody that he knew and trusted. Having a head coach bruce. And the relationship that i have with him is it. I don't know if we'll ever be repeated. He's just such a unique guy. We have such a unique strong bond. That we we get along well. We even argue

"Was that i don byron headed greg. great idea. that's what they're thinking and that they would be sitting sitting in short stick area of phil goal range. And let's just go for the touchdown and That the conversation. Brady's in that huddle to and you're all look at each other. Let's do it. Is that how that worked. Were working on the field. He was out on the field. A great job of completing their bought an to leonard. And then barron. I just looked at each other. And he's about this. I said love it man. I love it. You know what i'm sitting there. I'm thinking to myself. We know bruce. Arians your phrase of no risk it no biscuit and we've heard it for so long and we've seen you put it into practice but never. I think this is like if anybody's wondering what does that phrase mean. Why does he come up with that. How is he ever put it into practice. That play call that execution that moment in time to give you an eleven point lead and send the home team to their locker room with a soul crushing touchdown that they gave up. That has to be it right. That's that's the personification of your phrase bruce. Would you agree with that. i think. That's that's how we live light brother and you actually put it in the end zone and brady must love it. I mean what was that. Like in in the locker room after that. What was that like. Oh yeah. Halftime locker was was. You know everybody was beaming. Hey well we got. We got thirty more minutes ago and you know the slipped in the moment not just get ahead of ourselves so it was but it was great. Yeah i think i think you know. Thomas byron personality mission. We're all just getting on the same page of just attack attack attack. And now let's smash cut coach. Bruce arians of the nfc. Champion buccaneers Here on the rich eisen show. Let's smash cut now to a fourth and eight late in the game. You have an eight point lead. And you see the green bay. Packers field goal unit trot on the field and aaron rodgers. Come off what did you think actually thought it was a good call by matt. I really did but with three time outs. In the two minute warning Can put all the pressure back on us to make those first downs. And they would have good field position to get a touchdown So i i don't think it was as bad a college everybody's making it out thirty nine from the fourth of nine from the nine of what the naacp from the it's not the easiest call in the world to make So i think i thought strategic thing with all those timeouts. It was a good move. But then you send tom brady on the field. Bruce you know you see what i'm saying. I mean you know tyler. Johnson makes great thyssen pitch and catch that pitching. I mean brady threw it in a window that was basically the size of tyler's shin right and he. That was a hell of that. He had in that one goes. The kids got an unbelievable future And then then the past. Everybody bitch is about that call but i mean it was great charles can make that call so okay so a but what is it. Like to send bruce arians. What is it like to send brady out on the field. Though you know what i'm saying like okay you've got the ball back but that's got to be a sensation. You're you know. You've had some incredible quarterbacks you've sent out on the field to call that you've called place for but now you're the hcf daddy twelve right. Yeah it's it's a very very comforting feeling. Very very comforting. Let's get to now on a few minutes left with you The super bowl. Super bowl fifty. Five time you you these you know you met kansas city and you said that you got a sense. Certainly in that game of the offense got on track you know we all know. Tyreek hill had the first quarter of the ages How are you approaching the rematch. Here bruce yeah. I mean we learn a lot of things from that game What not to do what to do. And I think you know very excited about playing. We know the challenge is trying to stop at that. Three headed monster. They got chelsea and hill and pat patrick but I like football team is now compared to then. And we've learned a lot from that ball game and I'm like you know the packer game before the saints games before this one doesn't matter and how what's your relationship with andy reid again. I know you're from different coaching trees. But how far back do you go with him or any relationship at all with With andy bruce. Yeah great great. Respect greg respect and You know we were never. We never really crossed paths coaching other than being across each other and just total mutual respect. I love what he does. I think he's one of the most innovative people never play coach in this game. All right and you know much is being made and rightfully so that you are the first team to ever play in your own stadium for the super bowl. How does this work. I imagine if there wasn't a pandemic that everybody could stay at home. Is that the way it is still going to go. Or you gonna hotel up bubble up. What's the situation for you over the next couple of days here coach. We're we're we're gonna stay at a normal home game and and treated like a home game until Forty eight hours before the ballgame so just like any old regular week. It's just you know the lombardi trophies on the line is basically what you're saying at the end of the day come get tested. Go to work and go home. Go back home. Well that's got to be a monumental monumental advantage or help let's put it that way instead of using the word advantage just a comfort level for you do that. I think i think it would have been had. Both teams had to come in on monday. But you know chiefs. Get to stay home until saturday night. This is an away game for them. They get their normal routine So that part of it isn't as big of an advantage other than we don't have to get on an airplane. okay. "Is it possible could. Tmz be wrong all the twenty first century. Stuff that you think of when you get news that just is so horrifying to see on your phone or learn about and hope is not true. It was one year ago today that we lost coby bryan. And i remember all week long in south florida. Chris remember you were there. All of us were there for our week. Long coverage of the super bowl absolutely between the chiefs in niners. Nobody i mean nobody could believe that nobody could believe that somebody who would look down any type of adversity any type of sneak attack on his wellbeing or way of living and stare at down he would stare down and beat it that he could be taken so quickly and with his daughter too with his daughter too. Then you sit there and you just think to yourself about the seconds. The i'm honestly it's it's all it's all just coming back to me right now. You think about how those seconds went in his daughter's there and other people and children are in their in that in that helicopter that he was taking to go coach his daughter's basketball team. It just so unfair so awful so dreadful and there's no doubt in my mind that was in lebron's mind last night and i just you know can't believe it's been a you been a full year. Honestly sometimes i think i. i just sometimes think. We're gonna see a kobe tweet about you know. Hey congratulating the lakers winning the championship or talk about something that is going on with the nba. Or obviously what. He was doing at the time building a company to be an entertainment extension of his brand. It's just unbelievable that he's gone. I just think about the twenty fifth. The day before was kind of the last normal day i think especially for me pre pandemic and everything because there's no cove it's not really a big thing in the united states yet. We had just got to miami for the super bowl. We're looking forward to what an amazing week that was going to be two new teams in that game that we haven't seen in a while the chiefs and the forty niners and i think about my son being a month away from being born and none of the political stuff none of the social unrest. It was just a saturday and tj. And i went and had dinner. We're talking about how great the week is going to be. And then the next day we have our tech rehearsal on our amazing sat down in miami for our super bowl week our last with. At and t. and an audience and we're just walking to get our credentials and then you found out and then we found out an everything since then in the last year has just been up. So yeah it's been upside down. Well i guess just the one thing. I wanna say here because we will talk about kobe with michelle foia who has a podcast where she does a deep dive on a single subject and in advance of today's one year anniversary she spoke to a bunch of people and kobe's life she'll join us I just wanna say here to everybody carpet diem right live and seize the day seize the day and tell everyone in your life that you love love you check on people that you haven't checked on while if you can and that's just a. I thought i had today. When i woke up and i'm like well i'm gonna talk about kobe. We're gonna talk about kobe today and think about it. In terms of living the moment we do have the super bowl coming up. And it's in tampa florida and the coach of the first thing to make the super bowl in your home. Stadium is going to be joining us in a few minutes. Time longtime friend of the program. Bruce arians he's on a podcast once upon a time. And i'm going gonna ask him about that. Anwar on our podcast. He told us the story about how he got hired by the indianapolis colts after the steelers said he was retired out the mirrors driving with his wife. Down to florida with all of their belongings and the phone rang and it was chuck pagano. I can't believe that now. That phone call has led to this moment and then somebody who's career is just beginning a head coach in the league right up the road here where the next super bowl going to be branded. Staley the head coach charge is gonna join us. Michelle foyer top of hour number. Three and the actor aldis hodge. Who's playing jim brown in this dynamite. I think just the. Let's just go for recency bias. Let's just go for wins. The day at richeisenshow. I'll hit it with the re tweet. Once i'm done talking to bruce arians. Zeon is on the phone he is. Should the Patriots replace Cam Newton with Jarrett Stidham?

"Think this is where we need to start because it's where everybody is starting when we talk about the Patriots and where we're at with Cam Newton right now in terms of the Patriots quarterback of the here-and-now home and also maybe even looking Beyond here and now to the 2021 season even and here in New England you turn on Boston sports radio, and I'm not trying to pick on those guys, but there are definitely talking a lot about Jarrett Stidham and the possibility of benching Cam Newton for Jarrett Stidham. I think they're crazy. But that that's a topic for another day. Mostly I want to focus on what are your opinions right knee about how cam is playing and how he can obviously improve from objectively. What was a very bad game on Sunday against the Cardinals whether you're a chemist and or a cam hater. Yeah, and it wasn't dead. A game against Arizona and Arizona. First of all, I think you have to remember that Arizona's defense is a lot different than Houston's defense. It's a lot different than Seattle's defense back in week to that Houston game. That's you know game those were two games with Jim actually got the passing game going and you felt hey maybe they could put together a passing game that could actually be effective Arizona see on their athletic. They fly all over the place Isaiah Simmons budda Baker. Like they have guys that can play they have some different things and they certainly they were putting an egg nine guys in the box of times. I'm sure having you saw that as well. I know you have from some of the work you've done they were basically dare in New England like go ahead. S game by throwing the football and it looked like they couldn't, you know, they got a couple breaks at the end with a missed field-goal and Isaiah Simmons penalty then put them in position to win, but they didn't win that game because of the passing game, but you know, that often said, I think we all have to sort of take a step back and realize a couple of things one. You mentioned I studied quarterbacks. Each week at USA Today. I have to do what we call a QB camp where I put up five of my quarterback videos of the most notable quarterback performances. There are some weeks friends. It's hard to find five good quarterback package, which is league-wide It's just tough. This is one of those weeks like you might get Baker Mayfield than that because there's just not great quarterback players Patriots fans were spoiled from two decades of Tom Brady where we took the best at the quarterback position weekend and week out but then when you take a step back and you don't have that and you see guys like, you know, Derek Carr and his high variance play or Baker Mayfield in his high variance player. Look at Carson waves, I mean talk about somebody that's regressed. He's regressed all the way back to his senior year at North Dakota State quarterback plays tough. And right now we have a quarterback. That's high variance. Well, that's one thing. I think we need to remember the other is this he came in late in a strange year in the midst of a pandemic with no training camp more minimal training camp. No minicamps. No OTAs, no prestige. James be tough complicated offense to run that has so many different moving parts. You've read The Playbook, you know, Evan every road has like six different variations. I'm trying to do is hard. There are some play books that are easy. It's like oh, yes, this makes sense Bruce Arians Playbook. It's kind of easy. Nothing really changes Josh McDaniels doing the Patriots Playbook. It's like quantum physics for me. Like I I can't figure it out. And so to try to do that in the midst of all this is difficult. So with that context, I think you know, if you want to get into the home Jared versus cam debate. I don't really think there is one because as you pointed out this week on Twitter Bill Belichick has seen Jarrett Stidham now for almost two years. He's seen him every day in practice if Jake was going to be the answer to what fixed to what else is Patriots passing game. Yes, he would play him but he's not so that tells you what you need to know about Jackson them. I was on Jarrett Stidham home. Right before they signed Camp. I remember I wrote the peace and said look Jack said it was a planet quarterback everybody and I'm so glad I snuck in at the ad. Well, look if they could get can do it for cheap short not be great. But Jarod said it was a planet like two weeks later. I signed Cam Newton Cam right now gives them the best chance to win games. Is it through the passing game most weeks? Probably not, you know this week might be a get right opportunity. But if I you know, if for the 2021 season, I still think canvas done enough to earn the chance to win this job with a full complement of training camp preseason, all that stuff of the engine needs to get better at Short of the mechanics break. Absolutely not do they matter. Sometimes they actually do but right now he's the best shot they've got week in and week out to win games.

"What were their close contacts and so in some cases four maybe way too many cases that may represent a major outbreak that's going on In other cases, those four positive tests may not represent new infections. So I think it's a complex question, but again, it's not one we're. Going to solve alone it's one where we're GONNA pull in our infectious disease experts the local public health authorities in make the best decision for the team and for the League as whole. One of the things we have to recognize in this pandemic is the health and safety of the team and the health and safety of the League is an entire community is is more important than anything here. So we have to safeguard that at all times. Do you believe that fans should be able to go to the Games. I think again, that's going to be a variable. By region, depending on the state of the pandemic depending on you know what the local public health authorities feel I do think that we've seen through the course of the summer. There are ways to have public gathering safely. There are ways you can do that. You can certainly mitigate risk by spreading people out by using masks by limiting numbers there are a lot. Of measures you can take and I think again, our clubs in our stadiums have done a great job putting those protocols in place but I think it's not just about the protocols you have to again look at what's happening in that community. What's the? What's the level of transmission? What's the state of the disease and and so it's sort of a case by case basis. Someone. Who knows Roger Goodell told me last week that and I'll use these two words that he is and I quote absolutely determined end quote. To play football this year, not just play football but as a sign to America that life can go on sort of the way the draft was and things like that. What's been your experience with Roger Goodell during the last few months. Well. I would say that we've talked to each other a lot more than we ever have previously It's a really regular stream of communication and I think that I would say that I believe the Commissioner is determined to try to do this in the safest possible way, and he does believe it's important for the reasons that we spoke about earlier showing that we can live with. This virus, but I also know these absolutely driven by the medical facts. I don't think that there's this idea that we're just gonNA play Football Cam, the torpedoes no matter. Yeah. I. Never never experienced anything that approaches that I i. think it's what is the medical science tell us but I think he constantly challenges all of us to are there creative ways that we can move forward and? Be Safe and I. Think the draft was a great example of that. Right? There were plenty of people said you should cancel the drafter never have the draft and then a whole lot of other people that said virtual draft will never work. Right? You can't have people at their houses doing this zoom draft and he really stayed the course and said, let's let's make this work if. We can. But what was driving that is you know he would come to me and say what do the public health authorities say what what are they telling us that we should do in when I realized that information then he said, okay, that's how we're going to do it. So I think he's in incredibly driven to move forward but only in doing. So with what makes sense medically Allen Sills chief medical officer, the National Football League. Thanks much for taking the time to talk to us. Thanks for having me. Back in the Peter King August happy to be joined by. Actually the happiest man in the National Football League. Bruce Arians I'm going to tell you the coach of the Tampa Bay buccaneers and I'm GonNa, tell you why he's so happy. It was a little over a year and a half ago around mid season two, thousand eighteen when I ran into bruce. Arians. In the Intercontinental Hotel in Kansas City. Bruce was in town in Kansas City to do a game between the chiefs and the Arizona cardinals for CBS television, he was on a broadcast team with Greg Gumbel and Trent Green. And I can tell you bruce. Arians really really liked Greg Gumbel and Trent Green but Bruce Arians at determined something by midway through the season two, thousand eighteen and that is he didn't really like doing television versus doing football and I just remember that day walking away from that little meeting just chatting with you in the lobby thinking. This guy wants to get back into it. And then three months. Later you're the coach of the Tampa. Bay buccaneers. And then the other magic wand moment. About a year and two months after that, you're able to sign Tom Brady. So Bruce. I guess if you can look back. At how quickly your life is changed from thinking that probably, you never were gonNA coach again. To Get into coaching job, and now all of a sudden you got the guy who might be the greatest quarterback of all time on your team. Has Been Amazing ride an amazing I. Never thought I'd coach again and I knew I knew I was done with broadcasting and in art decided to bite my way too many times and but what a great crew that would you talk about Greg Gumbel Trent Green all that what crew Melanie Collins. You know Suzanne Smith everybody they were just fantastic and..

"Interstate twenty four West. From. Nashville Tennessee. Up Toward Missouri. Because we're on our way to Kansas City. And if all goes well in about eight hours, we will be in Kansas City Missouri. But. This week I'm doing a podcast from the road. So I've got three guests for you this week. Got A short conversation which taped on Tuesday morning. I had the home of Allen Sills the NFL's chief medical officer. take that in Tennessee. At his home. You'll be able to see some video of that and NBC Sports, Dot Com NBC sports you to page also. But also this week. We're going to have a head coach Bruce Arians of the Tampa Bay buccaneers I was down in Tampa last Thursday and Friday, and then over the weekend I recorded a podcast with. To, me one of the most interesting and and fun guys in the NFL may not know very much about them Alex Mack. The Center for the Atlanta Falcons and also a little known fact he's the treasurer of the National Football League Players Association and we'll have some conversation about NFL PA matters and. Cova and things like that. So. It is a jam packed podcast. I'M NOT GONNA take a lot of time here at the top before we get to the conversations. But what I thought I would tell you is just a little bit about the mechanics of this training camp trip. If you know me know that the training camp trip is my favorite time of the year you spent a month. Getting, reacquainted with every. person who you know in the NFL and a lot of new people we don't know in the NFL and so I've really enjoyed it over the years going to twenty, twenty, two, twenty, three camps over a month long period but this year because of covid. The training camp trip was kind of a casualty. So I'm going to four teams total in eight days as you know of already been in Tampa wrote about Tom. Brady this week football morning in America then from there went to. ATLANTA. Excuse me. went to. ATLANTA. And then to Nashville stayed in Nashville late Saturday Sunday and Monday before getting in the car today Tuesday and driving for Kansas City that'll be my last stop. Then I go home and I've got a quarantine. at that point. So when you live in New York you basically have to quarantine. When you go to any of about thirty five states, I'm not really sure. I. May. go over to the giants jets at some point in the next couple of weeks if I find out, the quarantine does allow that but. I I don't I don't know I can or not. Anyway. What has been really interesting about this trip. The person holding the camera right now is anti colds. She is an NBC sports producer and on this trip. She is my videography, and so you may have seen her handiwork in my football morning in America column on Monday. She is the one who got the OJ Howard, Tom Brady video that basically I used as a huge negative an idea in my column this week. So and he's been invaluable on this trip so far. I I. Really Want to just take a moment to say. You know. What happens on a training camp trip is that you get to spend time with people who you? Don't really. Get the same opportunity to spend time with during the year. And so what is interesting about this here is that all that time is spent virtually and that time basically is spent on this video conference. APP. We have an NBC called Stream Yard right before I, left the hotel. I did Patrick Mahomes. Andy Reid and tyrant matthew with chiefs. This was the media day for the chiefs to do stuff that they don't do is kind of a group media things. So if I was going to get one on one stuff, it had to be on. Tuesday. So I'm going to write about them for next Monday. But my time with them was today so. I'm basically covering the chiefs from the J W Marriott, hotel. In Nashville that's where I'm I'm getting this stuff. So we'll go watch practice for a couple of days, but there's not going to be any interview opportunities. But anyway it's just it's a new way to do things. It's different. Next. Week on my podcast I'm going to do a little A little bit more on the mechanics of NFL coverage these days. So I look forward to tell me a little bit more about that. But so that I'm setting the scene now you're going to be able to listen to. my interviews, Alan Sills NFL chief medical officer Bruce Arians coach the pucks. Alex. Mack. The center of the Atlanta Falcons happy to have you with me on the podcast this week. So let's listen to Alan Sales. Doctors Sills. I think everybody in the United States is basically watching the NFL in looking at the results that they see from the national football league. And early this week it was reported that there only twelve players out of two, thousand, eight, hundred approximately who are on what is called the covert irr list meaning that they could either be positive for covid or they could be in close proximity with someone who is positive for Covid and thus was going through a testing regimen to make sure they're okay. What does that say about the progress of testing? Well. There's one other group that actually can also be on the Cova Dr in that group that has had a positive test that hasn't been confirmed yet. So there are definitely some of those, but but I think it says that first of all that we're keeping a very close eye on this situation and and obviously with daily testing and all the screening that we're. Doing, we have a tremendous amount of information coming in, but I think it also says that are clubs are doing a terrific job. You know meaning our players, coaches and staff everyone is taking this very seriously. They're looking at how can they prevent risk for themselves and for that that team organization and I'm really proud of the work that we're doing there are teams. Are Built on competition and excellence, and I feel like they've taken that same spirit of competition not to compete against each other but to compete against the virus, what can we do as organization as individuals to make ourselves safe here and and I think that's that's showing up in the results. So. As we sit here right now, there's so many. Things that I'm sure you have to be concerned with on a daily basis. What are the things you look for every day when you analyze the results that you get from teams? Well, we're always obviously I looking at new positive tests. You know anyone who test positive and really what we call a novel positive meaning. You've never had a previous positive test because we know medically that if you've tested positive in the past, you can have a positive test for many months. Afterwards that's just part of the unique features of this virus. So we certainly look at those novel is, and then we also look at the context data to see how our teams are doing. You know with the distancing and making sure you know if we do have a positive, what does that look like in terms of close contacts? If you were to. Look at a every team. And the fact that the highest percentage on any team so far has been one point, seven percent positive tests on that team. That seems to be. A lot more positive than I would have thought particularly with people coming from wherever they were coming from all around the United States. What does that number sadie that the worst team has been one point seven percent positive tests yeah. Again, I would say Peter. I was pleasantly surprised with that because I felt sort of like you did with people coming from all over the country and even all over the world in some cases that we were likely to have a lot more positive cases when everyone came together because remember those intake tests, they didn't show what happens. Once you're in the NFL facility, they just said, what are you bringing with you what? Are you coming from the outside but I think again, that goes back to saying that our players, coaches and staff they were already thinking ahead and making sure they were taking precautions leading up to coming to training camp so that they arrived in the healthiest possible state and and so I think it's a very positive start but to put it in football terms, that's the first series or the first drive of the game we got a lot more came in front of us, and so it's a great start but we've got a long way to go. We have to remain vigilant because whenever we let our guard down, that's when we become vulnerable. What if anything have you learned from baseball where the Marlins the cardinals now, the reds to some degree have had some positive that have kept those teams off the field..

Miami Local News - Tom Brady Expected To Choose Tampa Bay Buccaneers

"And of course Tuesday was dominated by D. B. M. Q. B. they begin with a social media post from Tom Brady thank you New England for twenty years as the day began to wrap up word would come that Tom Brady would be heading south time for straight talk brought you by straight talk wireless it's Tampa Bay that's the expected landing spot for Tom Brady the the official announcement still to come the Brady expected to be a buccaneer ESPN's Jeff Darlington this kind of is because it goes back a little bit in February when the Buccaneers behind the scene started to realize and recognize that Tom Brady was also serious about entering free agency something the sports world couldn't get their minds around but the box early in realizing that it was real so fast forward to this day and I I I'm actually not all that surprised I I the sources close to him that I'm familiar with it have always indicated that what really really appealed to Tom Brady right now at this stage of his life is the autonomy that he's never had the true ability to say I am in charge of me I'll choose where I wish to be what ultimately was most important to him as he was making this choice for the first time well first of all that's a great point I think that the idea that he was running away from something in New England is very true but at the same time I think he loved the idea of chasing after something new and I think both of those things can be true in that regard he was looking at a number of different elements here too he was looking at trying to be with a coach who is maybe more collaborative not trying to be the general manager of the office reported but just maybe have a little bit more input also wanted a roster that maybe had those offense of weapons to reinvigorate himself and then two other factors maybe to some people warm weather actually like the idea of warm weather and the second thing was proximity to New York City for personal reasons and family reasons so they checked a lot of the boxes in Kampala and that's when it really to me when I started to recognize what he was looking for was when Tampa really started to make sense the news of Brady heading to Tampa Bay coming on the heels of Brady saying goodbye to the patriots in a series of posts on Instagram Tuesday which ended his twenty year run in New England ESPN analyst Steve young we got a guy that I think really wants to enjoy the last little bit of his career get with Bruce Arians who I I was a student you check into my career you know mood shows a lot of fun it was really that was the best antidote for the end of a career because you kind of it kind of grows a little guy I don't have the coast tell the same thing and so Bruce Arians is perfect for the situation so granted that's what you get is Tom Brady I think you'll see a guy joyful he loves football and have seen him love it in a unique way no I didn't get to see Tom Brady love it in a unique Tom Brady way that's not you know and that's what it was all positive for the pages of president we get that but I guess I think given tomorrow when he gets introduce is going to be just a joyful happy guy with a great coach have a great time I think more than anything it's Tom celebrating the right to go beam for true free agent I just finally got a place where a coach can could have a lot of fun and okay so what I'm hearing you say is this is gonna be fun for Brady but I mean ultimately for buccaneer fans that think it's gonna be fun for them like are they selling themselves a bill of goods because we are talking about a guy who's forty three he's not thirty five thirty six thirty seven I think the idea of the house Scott you have to kind of James was was reckless yeah he also was very productive yes you want to started to move on and I think you've got to save yourself we can get that productivity special to pull out of the play action game with the talent that we have a Mike Evans and others we can get that production out of Tom Brady even though we recognize there is in decline and that we can bless and we leave behind the recklessness and look at all of the seven point games that we lost under seven and under with nine games they lost by any state can Tom Brady win those games and I think you have a tough time saying no we can't this is not a set deal is not a team that's Super Bowl ready by area you know I get that but it's a vast racial from the box from Tom Brady and they're gonna mix it in and I think a lot of fun enjoyable self comes out worth noting what we're talking about the Buccaneers after his time in the USFL Steve young was a quarterback for the Buccaneers Tampa Bay then drafted many Testaverde because they thought young was going to be a bust Steve young all of him while Brady is heading to Tampa Bay there's also the departure from New England ESPN's Adam Schefter this signs all along the breadcrumbs laid out of Foxboro there was nothing that took place within the last seven eight months that would lead you to believe that Tom Brady was going to return to New England again let's keep it all in mind let's go back and retrieve some history he voided his contract which actually voice today is the day that the last two years on the deal void he said up to avoid that way she said it up to become a free agent there were no substantial of contract talks at all between the New England Patriots in Tom Brady despite the fact that there's been speculation that there would be that the patriots will construct never happened Tom Brady was open minded about leaving New England and basically exploring what was out there listening to other teams yesterday the negotiating period opened it was the first day he was allowed to hear from other teams he believes that he is far enough along to make the decision that I'm not gonna go back to doing which tells you that he had to be in this spot all along and he had to know that when he was walking off that field in Foxboro after the playoff loss to Tennessee he had to know his mind at that point in time that there was a real possibility that he would not be returning there as the quarterback of the New England Patriots I don't think this is a football decision only I think this is a life decision this is a decision involves him his wife his children his family his lifestyle his TB twelve models it goes beyond just football and someone said last week why is there tension wires are just why did you want to leave New England and I don't think it's a negative situation this is a group that was together for twenty years the one six super bowls that accomplish more than any combination in the history

NFL: Sunday Night Football Recap

"Some interesting results pain. Every dog has its day and apparently sports books were able to buy back with their biggest Sunday of the football season thus far yeah tell you didn't capitalize while enough on that not the best. Sunday in it was it was a mess one one of those ones where you go through the car and you're like man I like this. I like this when I like this and they just don't make the cut and left a lot of money on the table and makes two of us. Is You watching coaching. We mentioned some of the bigger results clearly housing you root for the buffalo bills they get to the window at the Detroit lions as well as home underdogs and then of course Sunday night football we see the New Orleans Saints Cover Ver- as modest two to two and a half point underdogs but all that aside pain when you watched all the Games yesterday you went through some of the box scores and everything else as we do Monday mornings the good the bad and the ugly what stood out to you as some of the positive takeaways at least a quarter point of the season. Let's go the guy that constantly gets crapped on Jameis Winston. I thought he was fantastic. Obviously again needs to clean up. The mistakes still had the the massive brain fart late in the game which can happen but I think if you ask Bruce Arians eat like hey if Janus has like one w t.f moment every game. Would you take that I think the answer is probably probably s you know and aside from that one throw again. James was fantastic at the sixth deepest average intended air yards per throw in with that his completion completion percentage with four and a half percent better than expectation. He was accurate. WHO's officiant hit explosive plays your move that one pass and it probably was his best performance says a pro I think and when you look at geniuses performance clearly we know he's been surrounded by weapons. Tampa looks to speak figuring it out as far as they're running back situation relation that performance kind of the tip of the iceberg that we should have some optimism for James over the next twelve games I would think so right and we kind of came into the season and said hey this is is an interesting fit here with James who likes to be aggressive and head coach that likes to be aggressive if they can tone down the turnovers the offense has a real shot here and so when you're looking at this team two and two they blew the giants game missed field goal and I know a lot of the naysayers were saying something to the effect of they didn't trust James late so they ran the ball. Allah meanwhile there's an explosive town fields which to my Gavin's which set him up in the position to kick the game winning field goal so I viewed it a little bit differently early. I thought Tampa was going to be a team. That was going to impress the one team. No one was talking about in the off season right all of these changes at head coach and coordinators gators that were happening throughout the league. This was the one this was probably the biggest acquisition when you can bring in a Bruce Arians when he can add todd bowles to his defense who is the one that wasn't being discussed a lot about and I know in the off season. The win total was set at six. There's a reason it went up to six and a half. There wasn't sharp money but it wasn't talked about because they were still projected. It'd be one of the worst teams in their own division but I really liked what I'm seeing from Tampa right now. The ground games get going especially Ronald Jones the last two weeks as well. That's been a benefit and helped the offense to make a good balance but as long as James doesn't turn it over the scheme the style and the weapons are there for him to be

Ex-Steelers OC Bruce Arians says Antonio Brown isn't same player Pittsburgh drafted

"Of Antonio Brown. And he was the offense coordinator at one point in time before leaving Pittsburgh. And then joining the staff of Chuck Pagano in Indianapolis, and then becoming the colts interim coach as he battled cancer Picado dead and successfully thanked out and it became the Arizona Cardinals head coach. And now as the town. Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach. And that is Bruce Arians who said that he would not be interested in in Antonio Brown that he's too much of a diva. Antonio Brown is is not the same player. That the Pittsburgh Steelers drafted not physically we're talking about. Now. We're talking about everything else that comes along with Antonio Brown. Besides his ability to help you out and special teams and catch the football as an NFL wide receiver. Yeah. You know, Arians, basically said he's heard a lot of stories about as recent how he is speaking of Antonio Brown. And he said he plays as hot as anybody on Sunday. He practice really hard to. But you know, he's he's basically said as a paraphrasing. He's got him. He totally Brown's gotta make better decisions off the field as far as his punctuality and stuff like being being on time and whatnot. That's we said, so it's pretty interesting new head coach, you know, you've been in the broadcast booth for a year your new head coach of the box. This guy's a Steeler kinda. And I honestly coached them. It's you know, it's interesting to hear him say that about him. So it doesn't sound like Brown be going to Tampa Bay anytime soon. No. It doesn't sound like that. And that's the concern. I mean, you know, you can listen to every former NFL player, whether it be Jerry Rice and others say that he wants to be a San Francisco forty nine or that's great. I may it's great. And I do we both are in agreement TASR that Antonio Brown's gonna get traded this off season by the Pittsburgh Steelers. OB fascinating the team that he does go to am. I telling you that he's a losing player. Antonio Brown can help you in football games. But I will say that there's a lot of headaches now Brown and distractions. Yeah. Great point that Antonio Brown brings to the table that I don't know if there's a lot of NFL head coaches that are going to go out and look to embrace it. I really do. And that's the issue. I have with Brown is I don't want to deal with the nonsense. I really don't as Aaron said, you know, there's the little things that he doesn't do shop to shop to practice on time show up to meetings on time. You know, you're asked to run a hot return a walk-through run the run the hot read. What are you? What are you doing here? I mean, come on. Exactly nervous. I understand what you thought. I was going. I remember where it was funny. I mean, honestly, I it's not that difficult to it's not that difficult for Antonio Brown to handle his responsibilities. Yeah. I completely agree. I've never heard that before I was refunded. Agree with you to moves by. Yeah. Yeah. It was great. Yeah. Man. You know, I think you're going to get some coaches that are that will some teams that will wanna take that chance because how talented these days. We've all in all careers separately. You and I coming up in in all world separately. Right. I'll separate worlds. I'm sure you've come across the state me. All you've heard of guys that you may be going to do business. What guys or girls that you're going to do business? What that you've heard a lot of negativity about. And what's the first thing you said yourself? Well, I okay. This person's talented. I'm going to judge them for once. I get to know them. You give them that. You know what? I mean. I, you know, my wife always taught my son that you might hear things about someone judge them. I from how you judge them. Okay. Take defamation here. But a lot of times it could be hearsay on the advice. It is with this guy here. It's been a like him himself. He's combustible. He's tweeting stuff. Meaning it's Brown. He's been doing a lot of stuff. He's creating he's adding a ton of gasoline to these little fires that war with the Steelers in Hammond Tomlin. So if you're another coach, my point is that I do think some of the coaches or a coach will say, okay. This guy's really talented. He's a superstar. He's going to put as we going to put people to seats in the building. Okay. And and these stadiums role big he's a draw. He's going to draw people. He's a star. I so we've heard all this bad stuff about them. Just like Erin said, I've heard the stories a younger coach hypothetically might say. Well, I wanna to take that chance. I've heard the stories too. But I'm going to judge Antonio foot for what what I see we're going to take a chance on him. And that's what then you gotta hope for the best because he's gonna end up somewhere. Most you know, he's just too damn. And that's a fair way to fair way to look at it by also think that if you're having issues with a player friendly coach, Mike Tomlin, see, I I think there are guys that can't work and play for Bill Belichick. I think there are guys that can't work and play for other disciplinarians like a go back a couple years go back years ago. Bill Parcells right there. There are guys it just it just doesn't work. Now, if you can't play for a guy like Mike Tomlin, who's bent over backwards to placate you over the course of your career as you've changed with the success as your personality is changed with the money. All of that is well deserved because it's earned. I'm not talking about his personality all the money that comes his way. Tasr? I also have to look at that. Same of you have issues with Mike Tomlin, what the hell are you gonna do here? Yeah. Yeah. I mean, Mike cobblers a really is he's apprentice coach player friendly code. But there will he will be playing in the National Football League next year, you'll be making seventeen eighteen million dollars a year. God bless, but there's there's a lot. There are other guys as Bruce Arians said, I think there are a number coaches to say, I don't want daddy. Deal with that. I don't want that toxic person in your locker room. That's what you don't want. You know, you don't want that. Like, I'm a bills fan as you guys know, and I I love all young quarterback. And if we gotta Antonio Brown. I think that'd be amazing. Be awesome. But I would worry that he would like inadvertently mess. What the Josh out? I would worry about that. And I think that's a fair fair concern. But I think that a lot is coaches will judge him. For what they think and and meet with him Suez heads out, and let's just I just play a little bit on Antonio Brown side. He's been with the same organization right out of college. Right. So seven eight years, whatever it is sometimes difficult to paint. Sometimes you you'll be in better behavior. When rental the people a change of change of environment sometimes could help, and maybe that's what he needs, and maybe things will change. And may maybe

"bruce arians" Discussed on The Adam Schefter Podcast

"This week's Adam Schefter podcast will be joined by the new head coach of the Tampa Bay. Buccaneers Bruce Arians makes his return to football entering a urine broadcasting, and we'll get an analytics breakdown of the upcoming conference championship games from the ESPN NFL researcher. Evan Kaplan, and we'll take your questions as you. The listeners have left us voicemails that deserve to be answered. But I the head coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Bruce Arians, Bruce. Hey, congratulations on the job. I got a great story for you. I don't know if you're gonna remember this. Do you? Remember after the Pittsburgh Steelers fire you in two thousand eleven so a headed into the two thousand twelve season, and I called you. And I said, hey, there's a job for you in Tampa Tampa's interested, and you just got fired as the Steelers offense. According to do you. Remember this conversation between you and I. I don't think so. And you said is it for the head coach. And I thought to myself privately head coach he just got fired his offense asking you about the coach. And they were interesting years the outfit squandering you thought back in two thousand twelve this time in two thousand twelve seven years ago, they you should have been the head coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers so seven years later you approve an accurate, and there were seven years too late to hire you because in between you obviously bounced around going from Indianapolis two hours ONA to the CBS booth. And now finally to the job that you told me that you should have back seven years ago. That's a good one. That's awesome. You don't remember that? No. I don't. That's a hundred percent accurate. I remember them speaking to them, and I remember reaching out to you. And remember saying giving interest and you say, yeah. Are they calling about the head coaching job? And which which when we look at that. I think it speaks to your level of confidence, and how much you thought you should be a head coach, which you had not been in NFL. Hey, coach at that point. And it worked out. Okay. Bruce. Did is been it's been a lot of fun. So what made Tampa so attractive to you? Location ownership general manager of quarterback, and all my all my staff being available kinda like the stars just kept lining up. And you know, as I as I traveled around this year and into broadcasting, I knew how much I missed the locker room and how much I miss you arena. At what point when you were broadcasting, you know, I wanna get back into this. Knows. I is we eight or nine and I forget which team is that I'm standing on a db messed up, and I started coaching, and yes, this is it my team. I can't coach it. And so I knew it was happening was coming. And when did it become a reality? One tap opened up, which I wasn't sure it was and you know, knowing Jason light same as Winston. Then when when the guys that I wanted on my staff were available, then then it just became something. I had to do. So you've known James Winston for a long time. Oh, gosh since he was tenth grade. And he would come to your football camps. Correct. Yes. Yes. So how do you get James to control those interceptions and turnovers? Well, I think through better understanding of what we're trying to do. And the realize ation that you don't have to throw the window every single time approved you can. That that, you know, some of those decisions that you think you can get it in there aren't worth it. And you're hurting the team. So I just think the confidence that he knows that I have in him that he's the man that's his team. Some of those things will go away. There's a lot on the line for him this year because he's going to the fifth year of that rookie deal. There's a ton of money. You can make James Winston a lot money. Bruce here. I hope so he made me so. That works out pretty how good quarterback. Can he be with your guidance and direction? I think he's got all the skill. He's very bright. And he's an excellent worker. He's there at five o'clock every morning. So you have all those things that a great quarterback coaching CLYDE Christians offense coordinator buyer left, which who he can lean on a guy that's played position in this offense..

"You picked up the phone or did that happen before you got the opportunity with Tampa coach it was after and you know, we we talked to he's he's another one like a son to me. So I was more talking to him better future. You know, we all get fired up in so many times, I can't count them all and but then it led to this. And so he thought hard about it. I I was doing my best sale job and in this in this happen. So we're really excited to be back together. While you said you've been fired so many times don't forget, you're also retired to Bruce, right? A couple of a couple of times. Do you think about that? Right now, if you didn't get that phone, call from Chuck Pagano. Right. Can you recount that story after leaving? I was what I called refired in Pittsburgh. And so. Going back to Pittsburgh to get the rest of our furniture, and we had a little bit of stuff in an apartment. Chuck calls. And my wife looked at me goes gonna take. Well, let me listen listen to. You know? And that fairytale story of what happened that year with him beating leukemia at Andrew luck winning all those games with all those other rookies kinda gave me an opportunity. Yeah. That's when you got your coach of the year award there first of two of those Bruce Arians. And so now who's calling the plays because the last time you were on this program. And I asked you about any health concerns that you had because the time before you were on last you mentioned how you thought you might have some sort of medical emergency on the sideline which led to part of the reason for you retiring or leaving the Zona cardinals coach happily I got a complete physical on my interview per time ever and was really glad to do it and kinda completely clean Bill health. And but no Byron left, which will be calling the plays on obviously have a big hand in it. And and be on there with him, but you know, train Hera. Goodwin and buyer left which the last few years to handle that job and feel very very comfortable with them. Okay. Because that's what you said is you said, you know, if I go back, I'm not gonna call the plays, which is gonna make it a lot easier for you healthwise so Byron left, which is going to be the former quarterback of the Jacksonville Jaguars who had some time on the staff there in Arizona. He is going to be the play caller for you in. I thought he did a great job and his interim role this year. Right. So what walk me through the health stuff with you. And I guess you and your wife, and your physician was part of this decision for you to come out of the CBS booth here coach. Yeah. I mean, you know, we did everything soup-to-nuts done in Tampa. My doctors were involved with any questions, and so yeah. Other than losing thirty pounds some good shake. That's great. So before let you go here. Coach just a few minutes left with Bruce Arians head coach the Tampa. Buccaneers will be introduced as such officially on Thursday. What is it about coaching that that that coaches can't quit?.

"That's promo code. K I k one oh one don't stand on the sidelines. This season to win it and enjoy the games that much more. When you play at Diaz. I. Hey, welcome back to the rich Eisen show. And welcome back to this program man was on about a month ago as a member of the CBS broadcast and crew for the National Football League. Now, he's the head coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He is Bruce Arians. How are you coach Gert rich doing great rather? How you doing man amazing? The the roads that life puts a turn on sometimes. Amazing. It really is. I mean, you know, eight months ago at a never thought about this. But it's crazy stars line. Sometimes everything falls into place, and I'm really excited. So let's talk about the falling into place because when you were on this show about a month ago, you were mentioning that the Browns job was the only one that you really be interested in winded. The bucks job come on your radar screen where you don't have a lot of respect for dirt cutter in a staff and what they did their petition lights, a good friend. That intrigued me having general manager, I know and trust, and it's really good. And then gosh, my whole staff became available coaches like what's going on here. Everything's just falling into place, and I got more and more excited about it and to be able to put this. But I think one of the best staffs in the league together really got excited and can't wait to get started. Do you have before we get before we get to the staff there your history with James Winston is what for those who may not know. James was in football cap when was in nectar tenth grade, and my son I had a football camp in Birmingham. Wow. This is this good talent. I actually thought he's going to be a baseball player 'cause he's about ninety miles hour back then, but he won our quarterback competition. And you know, I showed all those kids a Super Bowl ring. And I think it made an impression on him because he's still talks about it today. And so yeah, you never know what those little twists and turns when you're dealing with young people how affects their life. So in terms of in terms of that you knowing him for Lyle? And obviously, you know, what his arm is like, and you like those guys who can shove the ball down the field, and we're just showing video right here on our television side of things of him doing that to Mike Evans, are you concerned at all about his character. And his ability to understand what's most important to make sure that football comes second in that regard. No, no can list. Yeah. I mean, no, I don't I mean knowing him for a long time. I said we all make mistakes he's made his I've made my, and I just I feel like I'm gonna great feel for him his excitement for the game is his willingness to work is unbelievable. He's into office at five o'clock in the morning. And so yeah, I have no qualms about that. So he's your guy moving forward. James Winston quarterback. There's no doubt. No doubt say what thing is going to be built around him. So what do you think he can do Bruce? I think win at all. I mean, he he has the intelligence the toughness, and obviously the arm ability to to lead a team, and we gotta put the right pieces around them. Obviously we've to do some things defensively, but have anybody can do defensively type can. Yeah. And that brings me Bruce Arians here on the rich Eisen show, Todd Bowles. You know, when you said that your your staff became. Available. And I laughed. I mean that that's just only laughter because of just the way you said it because clearly the reason why they're available is they in many cases, lost the jobs that they had in the case of Todd Bowles with the jets was that was that a no brainer for you. As soon as that happened..

"The last this this year off especially other than gain about ten more pounds know that part of it. And I I if I went back, I wouldn't I would not call place, and I I would turn it over to one of the guys trained and. So that would feel very comfortable that way, which takes a lot of the stress out of it. Okay. Hey, coach, really appreciate you calling in and join your call with with Greg Gumbel and and Trent green have a great cast in in New Jersey in a big game for the titans. And as you point out the giants as well. Yes, it'd be a great one it should blower. You got a coach best to you and your family and Americans you got it right back at you. That's Bruce Arians at Bruce Arians on Twitter. Doesn't think he's going to get a call? Why wouldn't you don't know variance that seems like derelict of duty did not give this guy his guys? Freddie kitchens co when I coached him at Alabama. I'm he basically created him. And he just said he wouldn't call plays. If he comes back to the sideline and he wakes up dangerous Everyday's a coach kinda like makes complete sell perfects. It's makes complete sense. Certainly if Lincoln Riley is not going to walk through the door. I'm wondering Cleveland Browns fans, if you had a choice between Mike McCarthy and Bruce Arians. Who'd you choose. You have a choice between two guys one who's won a Super Bowl as head coach one who has been part of championship teams as an assistant a guy who has been coach of the year as an interim head coach he was his job was so well done as an interim. They just based got to say, hey, we've got we have to give it to an interim head coach. And then goes to rezone, oh and winds up a game shy of the Super Bowl there. You put Baker Mayfield in that hands. And he's the with the defensive coordinator who could be able to put it all together. Must you keep just keep running back with Greg Williams? I mean, you can't have a problem with that. Certainly if my fourth down hot take from the other day is accurate that they're going to win out and finish eight seven in one. And if they do that have a pretty good chance of winning the division going to play offs three in one, Greg Williams. Three two. Great can their three two win out. It could.

"They're going to be tough. So you like them out of the entire of. On the outside. Looking in the hunt right now. You know, I think that I hope that game comes down to Tennessee versus the colts for playoff picture hickory gain this week seventeen that's week seven. Now, what do you think of our poll question which team currently succeed on down in the NFC has the best chance to make it as the succeed right now. I don't think it'll matter they'll be the first ones out. No kidding. You think and even as a shot to go into Chicago sensually or Dallas in winning that first playoff, Carol. I mean, they could be seven and nine whoever gets it or. Eight six and one or whatever it is easy. I would've always said Minnesota, but. Dependent show up last week hasn't shown a few cousins. Obviously, the upends the problems. Never count out. But I mean. But there's just no one there. If the giants pull off his upset take sneaking. Although their favorite in this game. They are. I mean because of the way that say Kwan's been running Bruce Arians here on the rich Eisen show. Let's get into some other story lines in the NFL. Bruce hunt insider report, Bruce Arians. To the best of your ability. What what what do you think happened with Ben Rothlisberger on that side line? And just knowing Ben is you do or what's going on within that locker room. It always seems like there's something we don't know about with Ben or what's going on in that locker room. What do you think happened with him in the ribbons re in the the x Ray not being readable? And he comes out and he stands around. But then goes back in what do you think happened? I you know, I would have to think it was something to do with doctors and trainers during that time trying to get. A viable answer on what was wrong knowing Ben. He's saying I'm good to go and somebody was hoping back. 'cause I mean, I don't think they really want to see the quarterback play that much. So I mean that was that was a big loss for them is that what happens on the sidelines is that where someone comes to. You is the H C and says, we don't know. And you look at the the the quarterback who standing there after he jogs in. And I mean walk me through what happens on the sideline where that act. I mean normally it's with concussion protocol or the trainer will come and say, so and so's out out. He's out from moment. What we're going to get back to he's not in not out totally. And then you just go on coaching and let it up to the doctors and trainers. And then they'll come back. He's good to go at that was baffling. And I know John is one of the best and Dr Bradley one of the best doctors in the league. So it is a really weird scenario. He was really weird. And then you know, I'm wondering what's going on in that locker room with with this team now on the brink against New England. What is Tomlin like in these situations? Best you, very calm. Very calm doesn't blink goes to the next game. I you know, I wouldn't be surprised to see the Steelers played their best game of the year. They are they love drama. They sure do Bruce Arians here in the Honda insider report what is the challenge now in Minnesota changing offense coordinator with three weeks to go. What do you think the Vikings offense is gonna look like differently Bruce? I don't whether you can't change what you're doing. But you can change the number of running plays versus number pass place. And I think that when I saw my face on the short yard play through the ball. And it was like it's over, you know, and I think Kevin's going to go in there. And I think the run tried to establish run to get that passing game going. So what do you mean by it? It's over. I could just tell is over for John D Lippo when I saw my face when he didn't run that ball. No kidding. That's the that's the silence. Yeah. Just looking at Mike Zimmer gone. It's he's had enough. Have you ever given a coach that look Bruce in college at temple guys every week? What are you finding every week? By one or two of them every week after the game here. Okay. That's good under stuff as it's good insider stuff..

"Redskins milk. Okay. Bruce Arians now of CBS sports here on the rich Eisen show. How are you Bruce? I'm doing great. How you doing buddy? Where are you calling in from? Where do I go into endure? All right. So you're you're not yet on the road for your game yet this week. Correct. Yeah. Head out seven hundred I where are you going which gave me doing the giants and titans? That is a big one for the titans. Bruce. Right. I mean, they gotta have it. So the giants kind of they're still there. All right. So Bruce Arians here in the Honda insider report on the rich Eisen show. What are you seeing from the titans? What did you see look at the film? I guess against Jacksonville that we really hadn't seen from Derrick Henry all year long, Bruce. What do you what do you think of the titans viability is a playoff team here? Yeah. I like them. Mainly because their defense, and they can run the football. Yeah. It was kind of a breakout game for Derrick Henry, I guess not even sixty yards and any other game. You pop out with over two hundred and obviously the ninety nine yarder about five step on pretty impressive. But he's that type of back. They have you know, Marcus mariota playing better. It's a big game for them because he hasn't played well on the road all year, and you know, obviously Houston sitting at the top of that heap in, you know, the division intimately from your time with the colts when you see Andrew luck. And what you're seeing from Andrew luck this year as good as ever, correct? When you say, it looks he looks just like the guy that you were interim coaching back in the day. Bruce. Oh, I don't think there's any doubt rich. I mean, that's my that's my wildcard team right now. Somehow, they get in you know, that road win at Houston. That's like a playoff win. So they're already playoff tested if they can. Get in. They're going to be tough. So you like them out of the entire of. On the outside looking in the hunt right now, you know, I think that I hope that game comes down to heal Tennessee versus the colts for playoff picture w Greg gagne week seventeen that's week seven. Now, what do you think of our poll question which team currently succeed on down in the NFC as the best chance to make it as the succeed right now. I don't think it'll matter that'd be the first ones out. I don't know. Kidding? You think and even as a shot to go into Chicago, essentially or Dallas and winning that first playoff Garo. I mean, they could be seven and nine whoever gets it or. Eight six and one or whatever it is easy. I would've always said Minnesota, but dependent show up last week hasn't shown a few cousins. Obviously, the upends the problems you never riders. But I mean. But there's just no one there. If the giants pull off his upset take sneaking although their favorite in this game. They are. I mean because of the way that say Kwan's been running Bruce Arians here on the rich Eisen show. Let's get into some other storylines in the NFL. 'cause I mean, I don't think they really want to see the other quarterback play that much. So I mean that was that was a big loss for them is that what happens on the sidelines is that where someone comes to..

"Welcome back to the rich Eisen show as Bruce Arians calling in shortly here on the program. So in Philadelphia Carson Wentz, according to Adam Schefter. Had an ammo awry on his back and the results were inconclusive. And Jeff McLean of the Philly Enquirer is saying that whence is now seeking an opinion outside of the medical staff in Philadelphia. An MRI today. Cording to Adam Schefter, a scannon. His back was inconclusive. He's having an MRI today to help diagnose an issue that plagued him for several weeks. Just in case you're wondering if one says it looked himself. When you when you're when you're Pinon comes from when you want an opinion from outside, right? That is. That's that's always interesting when the medical staff is there say, that's your that's your one opinion. I'm going somewhere else. I'll tell you what from this right here. Nick foles is gonna start Sunday. I mean, they might not say it right now. But there's no way if there's an inconclusive scan, and he's checking things out with an outside medical doctor that he's getting the reps or is ready to go. He's not even in the building. If you're outside. It's gonna be falls this show folks on Sunday here in Los Angeles. And we will see if he can run it back. I I gave you the rosiest scenario. Guest truly ten minutes before we went on the air is the news about once it hit and the rosiest scenario possible. Is obviously what happened last year? And you could run it back bust out the dog masks started right here in Los Angeles, finish up strong the eagles after having it here of the Houston at home. You know, bring the Shawn Watson and that Texans team in the Philly cold. Running back. Seahawk owes. Right. Why not no one thought it was going to work last masks and see how it works. That's the rosiest near the problem is though is that they don't have the same running game. There's no Jj. I and there's no. Luxair blunt what it is Josh Adams. And it's going to be Wendell Smallwood and Darren sproles and the back end of the defense is totally different..

"This switches happened would be derelict of duty. So who who could come in with head coaching experience with a Super Bowl ring on his finger having coordinated the offense for the quarterback from the state of Ohio who beats the crap out of the state of Ohio every single time. He sets foot back in the state of Ohio and Ben Rothlisberger. The guy who has been the coordinator and interim head coach for Andrew luck. And Indianapolis to the point where he gets his own job. Our zona. And is one of the few people who's raising his hand saying I want to coach in Cleveland to be the Browns. I mean, it kind of makes sense with Bruce Arians to come on in keep Freddie kitchens. Is it possible that Greg Williams says I'll stay as the defensive coordinator? Too tall order, but I will do out. I'm gonna put a point blank to to Bruce Arians because that's the way he talks. He's a blunt, man. After we also discuss everything that's going on in week fifteen huge games involving playoff hopeful teams teams already in the division lead teams that are hoping to hold onto the division lead teams that are on the outside looking in aka in the hunt, which Joe buck said on the air a couple of weeks ago. He would like to come up with an alternative to it. We have one as you know, on the sent aka sniffing it Sniffen. I will present that to him point blank. Bluntly when he calls into the show in our to prior to calling tonight's chiefs chargers game, but other playoff implicating action in week. Fifteen the Dallas Cowboys at the Indianapolis Colts. What is our poll question today? Crisper we'll get the we looked at the AFC playoff picture earlier this week. Let's look at the six seed in the NFC playoffs. Five teams sniffing. It who gets the succeed. Vikings currently occupy Panthers. Eagles Redskins all have six wins. And the Packers five seven and one that one tie is keeping them in the mix. I'm telling you the Packers this weekend. In Chicago throw the records out everybody thinks they have zero shot their season's over they fired their coach. This is exactly when Aaron Rogers steps in shocks everybody. It tells everybody that we're a relaxed. It's huge Packers bears bears. Win this game wrap up the NFC north. At nine and ten and four nobody else can catch him. I mean, that's it. It's huge. I'm glad you included the Packers because they could act absolutely be the one team to come out of the Sniffen it mosh pit. But the way it's not a bad fantasy team name Sniffen, pretty good. I don't know what the avatar ISSA. So we'll ask Bruce Arians that very question. Joe bucks? Gonna join us an oh, yes. An hour. Number three could not be more fired up about this because they're sensually taken the step brothers and put them in the forms of Holmes and Watson. Right. I mean, this is seen Holmes and Watson I've seen this movie advertising. It like that is so funny. It is so funny. It is will Ferrell Sherlock Holmes, and John C Reilly as Dr Watson and both of them together in studio, our three that is just going to be so let I can't wait for that will Ferrell and John Riley in our three gotta stay tuned, obviously throughout the whole show. Just like you do everyday Joe book, Bruce Arians. But when we come back Bruce Arians will be joining us. And there is very. There is a lot to talk about with him wants to get back and coaching performing one team. Why not Green Bay doesn't Aaron Rodgers intrigued them in? We'll see how open he is to the subject. He's he's calling a game..

So I know you have to deal with the media every single week with the interviews, but whenever you're bouncing around because you said you want around and it was good fit with CVS. Do you have to ask them questions about the rules? Have you feel like you've been getting baptized in an entire new world. Oh, yeah. I'm learning every learn more on this trip. This is. I think they schedule those games for me, so like learn about it and the rest of the guys have been doing it for four, four years together. Are you nervous. No, gosh, I, you know, you only nervous if you're not prepared. I know me. I wanted to look at you before the for your firsthand commentating sif you're nuts dropped or not. Makeup. Bruce, I appreciate you so much. Good luck in the booth. You're the absolute perfect choice for anybody. The words, the names that were getting out there to be commentators. They only right choice in my eyes was Bruce Arians. I cannot wait your wealth of knowledge in relationships around the NFL you're going to be must see TV. I can't wait to watch it brother. All right. Have a good relation. Gentlemen, former head coach now commentator for CBS Bruce Arians. All right. All right. PA Hamill. Good one boss. Zibari else will have either dad. Rogers yesterday, Bruce Arians today, it's hardly you can't find cooler guys. I know we got the office of I cut from the Browns on. Coach Wylie. I wanted to ask if if they were allowed to maybe have a cocktail in booth because the very first interview we were, we did with him during the summer. You can hear the ice cubes, clear. Listen, I would love if the announcers got a little tuned up and maybe more explicit of fly l. Michael's do that probably somebody said like they have like that. He drinks beers up there book. Yeah, Tommy smokes. Oh, yeah, it was. It was Tommy smokes. We were doing the Washington wild things were Pat was professional baseball player and a good one. Somebody offered as beers and he said, told me suppose normally I'd say no. But I literally just read about one of the famous announcers who does drink bucket. It was Joe buck drinks, one beer during the broadcasts. So yeah, I mean, I don't see why not dolts little mixie gone whatever I would. Yeah, absolutely. Bite him call first thing. Yeah, he's a great coach, obviously, and I'm sure he's just going to crush crush it in the booth. Ever since we started this podcast, people have been asking me for advice is mostly it's about fantasy football, like you need to talk to.
