How do you go about your day is a resentment based on frustration because nothing changes. There's a resentment based on having to educate idiots more that nothing changes Think it calling. I really enjoyed recording this chat with derek. And i'm gonna get to that in just a second. I just want to say i hope everybody out. There is doing okay. It's surreal to be recording conversations. This way it's surreal to be separate in my house all the time and not see people face to face. This was recorded as last one was over video. Chat where the audio is then uploaded to the internet downloaded and edited in there. A couple of instances in this conversation where the internet kinda messes with my voice. And it's fine a couple of times. You'll be able to figure out what i was saying but at the very end i mentioned nate goodwin's name and i think his first name got lost in the ether. So nate of hello. Hope you're doing well. Both derek is say. Hello this is a conversation with derrick walker derek And i were the same generation. He graduated from portfolio center. Where i went to school he. From wondering, I'm David Brown. And this is business wars daily on this Thursday may sixteenth co working spaces are big business these days as the number of solo preneurs in the country grows, so too, does the demand for independent office spaces, but a lesser known phenomenon has been gaining a lot of steam over the last few years co working spaces designed for women most big cities have at least one or two born from the same entrepreneurial zeal. Shared by the audiences are intended to serve some of these companies have international ambitions, consider the wing, which now has offices in New York, San Francisco, Washington, DC, Los Angeles, and Chicago. There are more on the way including one in London. Now the wing offers co working features, tailored, specifically to women that includes offices that are, you know, warm enough cafes lactation rooms, Instagram worthy common spaces, and frequent networking events, but the facilities aren't the real draw. The wing is heavily marketing itself as a social club, dedicated to women's empowerment, it's even inked and agreement with time's up, the nonprofit devoted to safety and equity for working women. The wing is community first office space second founded in twenty sixteen. The wing has raised more than one hundred million dollars. That's a huge amount of the new women's co working market, but it's a far cry from we work, which is set to go public soon. We works owner sports controversial valuation of almost fifty billion dollars. If that sounds like a tough rivalry will look under the covers and you'll see that we work is a wing investor the company's hedging its bets, don't, you know, projecting that demand for women. First spaces is only going to grow. And as it does the wing is doing everything it can to ensure it's top of mind it's been entering into high profile partnerships, such as one with h. HBO the wings helping HBO promote the new season of the hit show. Big little lies. It'll host advance screenings in many cities and even a panel discussion with Reese, Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman and Meryl Streep, but the wing is not alone in cultivating starpower arrival. Women's co working chain called the Riveter has featured events with Facebook's Sheryl Sandberg, and US Senator Tammy Duckworth, by the way, in case you slept through history class, the Riveter is named for World War two's, famous feminist icon, Rosie like the wing. The Riveter is well funded. It's raised more than thirty million dollars so far. It has seven locations and Embiid to operate one hundred around the globe. Both the river and the wing. Call themselves women Centric, meaning men can join it's not a philosophical choice before it changed its stance. The wing was sued for gender discrimination, and with membership starting around two thousand dollars a year. It's also been the object of criticism that it's designed primarily for. Affluent women, while the wing may be grabbing attention in the market. It is by no means the clear winner. In addition to battling with the Riveter, it's also competing with growing numbers of smaller local women's co working businesses, especially in trendy cities like Los Angeles. Denver in Seattle term success is far from guaranteed. But, you know, maybe that's the key to success, potent mix van Bishen and uncertainty that spurring innovation innovation. That's pushing the wing out the traditional co working box. From one three. This is business wars. Daily Haiti life are take on the news shares with a friend. Now, they're going to get some more signings. And it won't be the sexy names. It's okay. Like one of my best friends is a big time Cowboys fan he's been sitting over like are what are we doing? "Five seventy KLIF Ernie Browner, surly, lineal, Chad Dickson and Bill Barnett doing his part is technical and musical director to keep the broadcast on the air. So Dallas Morning News has called curious, Texas. I kind kinda like this channel eight's doing a version of this called verify as well. I think Dave checkers doing it over there. This is. A really clever idea they say if you have an idea or a question, and you what are journalists to investigate it? We'll do it. So somebody asked the question is Dallas white rock lake haunted. Now, everybody is heard the story of white rock lake. Haunting sounds just to make it really feel good. The story is the lady by the lake somebody sees a hitchhiker the girl dressed in white. They take her to an address usually in Lakewood or somewhere in that neighborhood drop her off and she's gone. Suddenly in the back, she's gone. But there's a wet spot there on the seat because she apparently was a drowning victim. And then the person goes back to the house the next day and said, I drop somebody off here last time, but she was gone they her and they say, oh that was my daughter or that was the previous resident who drowned. A year ago or five years ago, or whatever the story changes multiple times. I reference that curious Texas found was they went back to nineteen fifty three the Dallas Morning News reported this white rock lake been there since one thousand nine hundred by the way, I had people tell me this for the longest time. And I don't know why they think this white rock lake was not built by German POW's and World War Two. I've had more people saying that I've had more people tell me that over the years. It was not built by German POW. Now, we had a German POW encampment in the DFW area. But. It's been there for it's been there since nineteen eleven it became an official Dallas city park in nineteen twenty nine the first reference to this story actually comes as it's reported was in the fifties. The story apparently was based on what guy Molloy former director of displays for Neiman. Marcus said in the early nineteen forties in his version of the story. He claimed to have given a ride to a young girl while driving home after working late. She told him she'd been in a dance with her boyfriend before they were in a car accident at the lake Malloy wrap the girl in a raincoat in his back seat. But once they arrived to a home on Gaston avenue. She disappeared. The only thing that remained was the raincoat years later Molloy's wife claim to have been in the car and that the girl had been wearing a stunning Neiman. Marcus dress little advertisement there since then residents if claim multiple stories they actually ghost tours around white rock lake, and he goes tours around grapevine, I told you there's always been growing up at didn't county. There's a story about Goldman's. Bridge, which is old Alton bridge. Yeah. Yeah. What's the story there? I don't know that one. There's a guy that looks like part human half goat who terrorizes children when you go there. And I think either you spit off the side of the bridge or something like that. It's a it's the bridges still there. It's super old. It's a historic landmark really neat. Okay. All right. Every town's got something like that. Yeah. There's a company offers once a month ghost tours from eight till midnight, forty bucks a person, man. The tours are interactive participants get the hunt for ghost while they're learning about the hunting tool. So if you ever watched an episode of ghost hunters, it's kind of the same stuff, you know, electromagnetic devices, and you interested in ghost, hunters, Dowsing rods and listening session with a radio spirit box. Man, we're in the wrong business. Con people into giving me money for crap. Like that. I went on a ghost tour when I was in Alexandria, Virginia. Because it's been there since the sixteen hundreds and I figured well. Somebody's bound to be still hanging around. Supposedly Ford's theater is haunted. That'd be a lot of places in wash. Supposedly the White House is haunted. Michael Reagan told me a great story that his father related to him. 'cause I was talking to Michael Reagan. I said all right now before we get into anything about politics or the the the like I want you to tell me is the White House haunted. He said my dad told me he had an interesting story. One night that the dog that slept on the bed with he and Nancy ran out of the room and down to the Lincoln bedroom, and and stood outside the Lincoln bedroom barking hysterically at whatever was and there's nothing in the Lincoln bedroom. Of course, he said dad reached down and picked up the dog and started to walk in the Lincoln bedroom and the dog absolutely flipped his wig and just panicked and ran back to the room and got under the covers that would terrify me. Yeah. Well, me I say, well, it's a dog. You probably has better senses about he said, that's the only story that I've ever heard other than my sister saying that. Yes, I saw Lincoln's ghost. But he said, I don't know if that's credible or not. But my dad telling me that story about the dog he said, that's the most credible story. I've ever heard coming from whether it's a haunted or not. So I went on this ghost tour. And we're in Robert de lis house. And you're never gonna see anything goes don't come out on schedule. It's certainly not during the day. Well, they did nothing with white rock lake J. She wanted to reporter went on a ghost tour and said the they didn't see anything didn't discover anything nothing. Odd fact grown up here. My whole life never seen white rock lake. Is that right? How weird is that? That is kinda strange. I've hiked around and multiple a wonderful area. Insane. Yeah. That is straight. Anyway, if you want to check out is it's actually a great story. It's curious Texas. It's in the Dallas Morning News about white rock lake. I like it when people break these things, I know there was a place in walks ahead. She called catfish plantation that was supposed to be the most haunted place around here. And when I was in San Diego, it was the Whaley house, and you know, there's always this one or two places in town. You know, I don't buy into any of it. But it's still a lot of fun, especially when you get closer to Halloween. Coming up after the top of the hour. We have the five at five these the big stories you by missing the day. And then we go to Starbucks where baristas are being told how to handle hostile customers or now hostile because the former CEO of that company.

"That's that's very damning. There is similar to Bill o'riley at Fox News one of his kids. Said the same thing. Bill, O'Reilly scumbag, horrible human being. Yeah. I'm going to say about Floyd. He's donated money to charity. He's done some good things in his life. He's done some really awful things awful things. And I I don't think Browner has any credibility, and it goes back to Browner. You know, these these sexual assault cases Barnes is not a good, dude. Now, whether he's a wannabe Floyd, Mayweather or not. It's one thing to say some things that are out of line and oppressive has nothing to sexually assault. Somebody completely different circumstance. Not that. I support anything that agent. Bernard did at the press conference yesterday because he's a complete scumbag, the horrible things that he said, it's terrible. I don't mean to laugh about it. But the situation he put Al in up. There was just unbelievable. And then he and then he goes to the trainer, and he has trust as the trainer question and the trainer just doesn't even say anything either just puts Alan a horrible circumstance, and I thought L handled it fantastic. I thought he did as good as he could have done that was really unimpressed with the trainer. What he when he he just put his hand, and touch the touch the the microphone twice bomb bomb that was that was crazy. I mean, you have to you have to answer some type of question. He didn't know, and I thought many Paki Al and Freddie, Roach nothing but class, Freddie, Roach gets up, and he says, I wish bullfighters nothing. He says, Madison great shape. It looks like agents in great shape should be good fight. Yeah. Just was very short. And sweet it just makes absolutely makes absolutely positively.

"To happen in november or are you what browner's appointee going to leave what who decide no question i can tell you from my perspective i'm running running for the november general election i won the democratic nomination for the primary for this one particular see i'll be running alongside of really great public servants like verschoor like carrie steel him to clay marcelino garcia is also running as well so there are five democratic nominees for five spots in november and i'm running to that will the rounder appointee leave i don't know you know nobody from that side is sharing their intent with me as as i would not expect them to but i'm running in and my hoop is with enough support from folks up there and cook county all winning over and i will just keep taking this stuff i stuff and keep fighting because nev been easy as always fight i hate to say it i wish it weren't a lot of persistence and that's just how does so i'm running in november when i just recently learned is that when there are more nominees like in the primaries than there are spots that the top so if there's like four people running for three spots the top three people for this particular district or almost always gonna win i guess because it's such a solicitor researched when people are researching what they're gonna vote for the researching mayor and aldermen and things like that and they're not doing research into the metropolitan water reclamation district so i had a guy i knew in college ran for this many years ago and he unfortunately drew the last position or second position or something and even though he had been endorsed by a lot of the bodies that i would look at if i were doing my research he didn't win because he just poor position on the ballot and that's something i think people just don't ever think about unless you're running for offices your position on the ballot mattering.

"Thinking that tv right now is a little blacker and browner than the film industry so here's the interesting thing that came out about this ucla study is that optics wise it would appear that way okay when you take a closer look and this was based on the last year that the through was two thousand sixteen so things have been a little bit different in twenty seventeen and in two thousand eighteen but in shows for shows in two thousand seventeen the new shows you did see a little bit more representation but women actually lost ground onto wow but actors of color in lead roles went up by twenty eight percent that's a lot i think one thing in that study that stands out in every study on diversity in hollywood that stands out is just total lack of women in director's chairs another area though that the television has really you know moved the ball on i want to also talk about the money the numbers in the state of the movie industry financially eric you cover the biz side of hollywood and i think we're in a really weird spot right now because of black panther has done so so so so well but the trend lines over time show that year after year fewer people actually go to the movies right attendance is either flat or down last year was an awful year it depends on where you look some studios like disney did very well for themselves but in general last year attendance in us moviegoing was the lowest since nineteen ninetytwo willie the year a few good men in sister act came out i know i would have stopped after sister act.
