He's not the chief safety officer at burner technology. Andrew to complete your thought, you're talking about this deputy at Parkland, whose trial is coming up in September. Now fees convicted of a felony, I'm assuming that he won't be able to continue to collect this big fat pension, right? Yep, that's, you know, to get a 110,000 a year for letting the leading 17 people get killed. It's kind of horrible. So I hope I get accountability. My daughter, my daughter would want me to get accountability. And I have to say, governor desantis, I work with him. He's an unbelievable one of the best governors in the country right now. We got to accountability and Broward. If a lot of people don't know this within the first month governor desantis removed that failed sheriff that said he had amazing leadership, sheriff, Israel, he was removed. Nilsa Alvarez Unpacks America's Political Truth

"Now you've worked on some very successful campaigns. You've advised the senator Rick Scott Ron DeSantis, a worked on the Trump campaign. Can you unpack for us the truth of what's been happening politically in the last ten years in America? Because if you look at the figures from 2020, it is remarkable, of course this will be denied by the left behind closed doors. They're very worried about it, of course. But if you look at the figures for minority support for this non politician for president Trump, you see not only a 12 13 million vote increase between 16 and 20, you also see the highest rate of minority support for president Trump in the black and the Hispanic community in comparison to any Republican candidate or incumbent since the 1960s, so is it too much to say Nelson that this is an awakening? Can you unpack for us what is happening? Because we've been told for so long that, oh, the Democrats succeeded. They painted the GOP with a brush that they don't care. They're not interested in the minority of vote. What's changed in the last decade? Well, that's an amazing question. And just to bring some perspective when I serviced these different campaigns, it was under the umbrella of the GOP as a faith and Hispanic engagement director where I managed several campaign offices one for Trump in Hialeah in 2016 and then desantis and Scott in 2018 and Broward county. And so in 2015, the data was showing us and because I'm a pastor's wife and my connections were really in the ministry world. I would say that the data was showing that only 5% of church goers were participating in primaries, which is a very, very bad, it was just bad news for the evangelical and the Hispanic faith vote. So we started a very aggressive voter registration operation with our network of ministries and it ended up being the largest voter registration operation in the state of Florida, leading into 2016. And because so much was at stake in 2016, just the body of price in the Hispanic faith community started waking up and starting. We started having a record number of Hispanics that were registering as Republicans at our voter registration drives, not because we were waving a partisan banner, but because when they understood which party stood for their Hispanic conservative values, they started realizing on their own. "You said something when you were describing femininity and I wanted to go back on that and I wonder how that played. I think of an earlier podcast that had this earlier this year where I interviewed a young lady and she was talking about how some of the things that protected her as a woman away from people taking advantage of her came off later as well why are you acting like a bitch or why are you doing this and why are you doing that? And she like, well, when I didn't do like that and I was vulnerable, people took advantage. That protected me at one space, but now it's starting to come. She had to realize she had to let that go because they started to affect relationships. So when you talk about how, again, Broward, I know my man yak from Broward and I know how I get down ace hood. "He was attorney general of the state of florida. Then when he was elected he was a republican. I remember those days back. I was working with jim defeated them and then and then then i guess he decided he wanted to go to the senate which was a mistake on his part. I you know. Charlie crist always looking for the next job. And so an. And he wound up getting just pilloried I think due to the the tea party movement so he became an independent and then eventually became a democrat and now he's running for governor again this time as the democrat. Why are you better suited for this job than shirley chris. You look My tagline for my campaign is something new. And that's what we in the state of florida need. This is what the democratic party wants. They want a fresh face. Fresh perspective. somebody who a winner as somebody who is the only one who was one statewide as a democrat in this race In the people want to win and the other thing that that makes me qualified And why i will. We'll be the democratic nominee is an and democrat my entire life. What you were hearing today and people are seeing the same person that i was back in high school and middle school and elementary school. The same issues. That i have been fighting for my entire life are the same issues. I stand up for today whether it is abortion rights whether it's criminal justice reform whether it's medical marijuana marijuana legalization whether it's fighting food insecurity affordable housing bees are issues. I have been in the trenches on not just policy points. I decided to talk about because running for office. This is why. I decided to run because these are things that had been part of who i am in it and the jewish faith which is what i am we call it to coon alone to heal the world and that is part ingrained in my soul. Everything i do. I wake up every day and see how can make the world a better place. And that's why you know when people are making decisions on the democratic primary. They're going to want somebody who is honest. They're going to want somebody who is is dedicated to their convictions Somebody who is a fighter fear spider. I don't turn down challenges I don't junk from position to position. I'm not a a lifetime politician. I can honestly tell the people of the state of florida. I have no desire to be president. I have no desire to do anything else. Besides govern our state This is it i. i'm not. I'm not looking into you. Okay if i don't win this time run next time. No i am passionate about this job this timeframe this position because we are in a crisis in our country in our state and so people of our state need to decide. What side of history are you going to be on. Are you going to continue to fight for democracy in the things that we hold true in our state and create history not only fight for history create history with the first female governor of our state and so when i have no doubt that the democrats have to make that choice in the ballot box. They will know that we need to try something new and that we need to have a true winner and fighter in our court. This is going to be a fight that we have never had before in in this race on me. More money flowing into the state of florida than we have ever or more attention on this race than we've ever seen before and so we need somebody who is battle-tested who is able to take on santa's on i make him squirm He makes his prone to making mistakes. And i am prone to capitalizing on their stakes that he makes So that's why. I'm the best suited to be the democratic nominee into fight head on with rhonda santa's nikki freed is our guest again You can you can She's running for governor here in the state of florida find. Her website at nikki freed dot com spelled fried really f. r. e. d. and on twitter. Same way at nikki freed all right so rhonda's santa's florida's been a mess for a while but he's made a ridiculous mess And there's nothing funny about it. Kovic is raging here. Even though people are denying it he right has he refuses in not only refuse any kind of mask mandates vaccine mandates or to ask for vaccine passport but he ruled unilaterally. I guess that no school board or any other entity in the state could initiate a mask mandate while many school districts. Did you mentioned you represent broward county. I live in broward. County broward county public schools from middle school on up. Where did you grow up miami okay. Hollywood hills high school and olson middle school. We moved from new york. I went to school so broward county and a latch. orange county. You mentioned up in area. Were the first to say hold on. Our kids are at riskier. We are going to institute a mask mandate to make a long story. Short santas decided. He's gonna find i. He said he's going to find these school board members five thousand dollars each if they institute this now he's saying he's gonna find individuals what what is he doing individuals who allowed this to happen five thousand dollars or or each five thousand dollars for each employee who who gets vaccinate or some nonsense. I'm what what is he doing now. You get so what happened is he. Came up with this rule that he in executive order. That said that yes school. Districts could not have a mass requirement mass mandate and so we saw what happened. And you know. I was part of that. Big fight Because i saw what was going on and told never school boards. I was going to get their back. And that's what we did. We called the white house and call the administration's this is what is happening. In the state of florida. We need help and you saw almost days after my calls. The white house that both president biden and his press secretary came out in very strong support. And they look if we're not gonna let that happen and so has in. Fact created a grant program for each school district at in school board members to apply that if in fact he withholds money which is now what he's threatening to withhold their funds that equivalent to their salaries. So it's bad enough that he creates an executive order that he didn't have the power to create to begin with then has now gone out of his way to use taxpayer dollars. at to litigate this issue and contained to liquidate this issue but also now gonna be withholding money and so thank you president biden for stepping up and helping us when he now is taken as a next step is that we have They passed a law this past session. That says that no employer in no company can ask for your. They're calling a kobe passport. Right i would. I don't wanna give in to what they're saying so requiring people to show that they have been vaccinated right and and so. They are not allowed to do that. Which again is crazy. We're in the middle of the healthcare crisis and most importantly whatever happened to free market. I was talking to a gentleman earlier. Today who owns barbecue restaurants. All across the state of florida and i said to him. I said look if you so. Choose to want to make you know. Having vaccines for your your patrons and know that you're gonna lose ten or fifteen percent of your business to the sunniest down the road. That's a business decision that is on you to make. It's not the government's decision. It should be you as a business owner. But now what he's done and so. That law did not touch employees. But now he's saying wait a second. You'd actually has a press conference back in the day when the bill was passed up at did not impact employees In that was that was a personal decision in government should be involved in that. Now he's coming out and saying for any every government agency at school district hospitals Law enforcement first responders at and then local governments puts in any requirement that their employers employees get vaccinated each incident..

Rep. Chip Roy: Biden's Language on COVID Response Is Always About Others Than You

"Doing. So I've got it. We're gonna force the boosters. Soluble. They're going to force you to do And by the way, it's all purposeful to say it's to help other people because they don't want to make it about you. Because then it's about freedom for you to make a decision about a mask or about a vaccine for you or your loved one. No, no, they want to make it about. You must do that for the other people. Even though there's no science to back that up. We all know that you can communicate the dengue virus. Even if you've been vaccinated. Remember, they move the goalposts on that. Right. Originally, it was all Oh, no. Well, you know, it's going to protect you from being able to communicate the disease. No. Then they found out. That's not the case. So now there's a well you've got to do it just to make sure that everybody can be taken care of. It's absolutely outrageous. And the booster stuff in the FDA is particularly telling that you've got experts there that are quitting over it, and that they're voting against what Biden. He does because here's the thing Chip. You can support vaccines as I do and oppose tyranny. And that's the point they support tyranny. And support vaccines. We support vaccines and opposed tyranny now De Santis is even pointed out. I'm pulling this up now. Broward County. In Florida. The anti body doses are being were being distributed 52% of the patients and a whopping 69% of the patients over the age of 60 had been vaccinated. Yep. So yes, and and the sentence has said I recommend you get vaccinated. Yes, but it's not enough. I mean, I got to have these and I've got to have these therapeutics if I want to use them. And now they're cutting them off. And look and add on top of this. You know this? My dad had polio. Okay? And I love my watch My dad his whole life. I'm very pro vaccine for for when we know what it is, and you make a decision. That's good for you and your family. But if you've got natural immunity, there's evidence that maybe you shouldn't get it right. Or maybe you're think so. I think you're right.

On the other hand, just sent this in Texas Governor Greg Abbott has sparred with the president a number of issues but especially in the subject of Covid and how best to balance the public health challenge It represents. How many people are going to go back to that to try to remember him and shit like dang one hundred one hundred k. thing is pretty fucking dope just like i feel like that's what florida needs and the needs more more like opportunities for young kid who's artists out of there to see like dope shit going on. Oh no how even got like that. He's got a good ear. Gattaca shallow to artists under pretty good right now so for sure. So new era is like a different label that you signed to initially or what was that exactly the local labor like bat one from but they like really like big like in brower them so i got with them boys daylight. They got their own label. Typeset right so. I got with them boys and you know we got together. Tina notre got on board with us. And we right here. It's been building i've ever say. Yeah what do you feel like. The biggest changes have been in your music. In terms of like what you've learned about what people relate to when it comes to music or what ship people like or what kind of music you like See proudly a light air body. Light has like a story type shit so you know you got to really talk about your life because you never know like people really go through similar things as you him so at first with his music. I was like scared. They're really like hama really go at it. 'cause only really know like what people are gonna think about what i'm san but now it's like no people can relate to what i'm saying so not make it easier for me to just tell like about like what i seen what i've been through Yeah you're talking about a lot of crazy street shit and music. You've been through a lot of situations. I been through a lot of stuff. It's not necessarily like street. But i didn't do shit out and seen a lot of stuff right yeah. Is it ever a worry that you put in too much detail in the music yourself now. Wing duma maybe not one hundred percents be only wanna give any kind of information right. Yeah i'll be like be. I'll be needing to give more Yeah i'll be you gotta really open up and let them really into your world for Yeah the extreme version of that is when you see people blowing up off of just straight talking about vote really all. You gotta do is look at jacksonville. They don't even know who the fuck they're talking about. How the time. But they know that is real. They know that there's a gang war on the music million white kids who wanna fucking pay attention to every last word of it that's different shimmy on really talk about like too much violence and then like that specific violence. Yeah nonspecific violence. Yeah no. I just like what i say. I'm really a product. Vami like i i don't feel i. It'd be really funny at violence. You get them zenit. Because there's violence going on right so you've gotta really still be in tune you like. Yeah yeah yeah when you look at that jacksonville. Shit those same craziest folk to you. It's far enough away in florida that it's kind of foreign host shit only really lie not really like pay too much attention to it but it's to me is working for them. No gesture bill doing anything right now. But critics thing for me was when i realized that both of the main rappers involved. Don't live jacksonville. Yeah and one lives in texas and one lives in atlanta so they just like all his crazy shit at all relates back to that city then in reality. They're not really there. Which makes sense because like imagine. What the fucking cops would be like the man. They're never going to fucking leave him alone. You know yeah yeah yeah they not no definitely be on you for sure so you you ever had any problems with the law minutes to avoid. All that love minor won't be is but who serious. I try my best delight stat reopen. Yeah definitely but you definitely you feel like you really have like your city or your neighborhood behind you. Because i've seen a lot of videos that you get like fucking pretty package behind me you know but you know when you get a little the bigger you get more like everybody come on board for your conscious of that of the fact that there's a lot of people who probably didn't give fuck about you a year ago before all of sudden i wanna be your best friend you got a certain shit gonna come with it Certain shit gonna come with this. But i know light who really behind me him right so as really as good. We definitely i know my life my neighborhood like long from lie they definitely one hundred percent It'll show down at a city really city really behind me for you came here like ten dudes who you come in here with I got i got eight. No he a producer. Okay now i wanted to see a producer but like producer engineer like everything this music shit like he could do it. So these are more parts of your overall team street connection ski. I got but you know. Eight o eight. He produced for like meli. Oh shit okay. An engineer for meli and a coda. In autumn were new light. Beats like that faria. Yeah and then. that's her. Her mom point cameraman no director. No he shoot light majority of my visual and shit a lot of other artists to deny got michael ryan and our from republic. Oh i'm trying to figure out how white guy slipped in here. A guy got momentum momentum dimly. ceo's cfo's of the new era labor right okay so like early on all right For sure yeah. Do you feel you. Are you getting a lot of like. i don't know i feel. You can't blow up out of florida as a rapper without also attract and a lot of like you know negative attention to there's people wanna hate on you there's people who wanna fuck in all of a sudden you're oppor whatever that's probably was going on right now. What them knowing that. It's fucking popular to have ono sound. Like i feel like is like you probably stand that because like what's going on right now. Yeah it's not really by this a lot of light no problems and shit going on. I felt like you could do it without doing our yes. You try to avoid the sort of try to really him. Yeah i mean it's like short term viral small percentage of to get like. I don't need him get real people behind news so i like to data. We knew i'd rather my people be safe. You've him yeah. People might have anything i mean. That is the crazy thing not even speak crazy about his situation. And everything and i was watching a video day about dirk kinda just pointing out there. Like bro dr. Got a lot of enemies and the people getting you know. It's not always him having a deal with it. It's like other people in his life relatives. His who end up being in these crazy situations. Yeah i mean when you when you you might be like ready for whatever in terms of violence and shit. But you don't necessarily want to put everybody in your life into that fucking position then again sometimes. Shit dukan youtube Sometimes you can't like sometimes you're going to have the light but you gotta just not late..

The police drove by the way getting under that bat. One from florida affiliate probably like one of the worst states for the they treat small crimes in a plan by new lead right definitely. Yeah i mean. I've seen that change over the years where it slowly became like. You know we would be on the in front of arles store. And there'd be cops walking by and there be fifteen fucking dude sitting there smoking blunts and the cost has got to walk through the we'd cloud and it's like i know this should basically illegal now but i'm also kind of looking at. Look one county north and look at the option here which turned out to be pretty smart and palm beach county with the opt-out note from the parents it it it takes the heat off. The administrators gives the parents and option. You write a note. The best album smartest move for them. Seems like every other counties doing the same thing too does is not anti maske. Just we believe this is a decision for the parents to make just given the uncertainty about what it means particularly for a lot of the young kids but board members and broward say the governor's order state overreach and abuse of power. "Jewels in the crown of Broward into our country. Thank you. Thank you. Yes, you know what it's It's really quite a story of synchronicity and so forth. But you know, when I got out of law school very briefly, I was really looking to get into public interest. It took me a while. On. Maybe we'll talk about that later later on in the show, But I ended up getting a really big break in my legal career, and I was invited Tol apply for position. Called the public guardian of Broward County. Don't you love that name on the public Guardians officer. Broward County was actually a court program to take care of the welfare of adults coming through the probate court, who had no family. They were indigent. Many were advanced in age, many with disabilities, many with mental illnesses, and they had no one to care for them. They needed a legal guardian. And so I was their legal guardian. I was the director of the office and I had the opportunity to work with some of. I think the most amazing social workers and case managers. Through that through that position, and it was there that I really learned the importance not only of understanding, collaboration community collaboration But the idea of really advocating using my voice to advocate for those who could not speak for themselves. Wow. And you know that's humble beginning. And how did you actually get the county or the judges or the legal system to say? You know, this.

And they can actually have a warm hot meal, not just a bag lunch, and that's pretty amazing. Plus what else is happening? Absolutely. So we're getting ready for good Friday. This would be on April 2nd. We can use Easter baskets. We can use more hygiene items and we can use the monetary donations. So whatever is in your heart that we would love to be grateful to receive it. Yeah, On the hygiene items that we have made this easy for many years. You know, Lee and I have very close to my anniversary is 19 years and 19 years ago, I saw the purple bag at the mission have do we get they gave it out to volunteers? Well, I think at that time if we gave out 1000 bags that was a big deal to get him killed. Now we give them out to hundreds of different organizations and they bring that back to us. That's what we use. Give out and you can help us with those purple bag by going to carry place thought or flash mission hope And if you want to help for the good Friday Easter celebration, and after financial gift you could go to carrying place dot orc slash.
