"But listen hear Fan sports fans. I must tell you these things that we gotta take some precautions they have taken. Some teams are going to look a little bit different, especially the nets. Is recently reported that nets. Guard Spencer Dinwiddie has reported that been tested positive for Covid nineteen along with center De'andre Jordan. Now, with Russell, already depleted because Tyson Chandler opted out of of coming back. Really a monkey wrench into the New Jersey. The I'm sorry. The Brooklyn Nets playoff hoax. Coming back into the bubble into Orlando Right now, and knowing that to their players are one of the sixteen to sixteen players that had tested positive going into that bubble out of the three hundred twenty. It raises a lot of precautions. As well as a lot of questions that everybody's asking. How many people have to test positive before they shut down the bubble? What's going to take place now? We do know that. The NBA has pleaded. Preach flexibility they will. That, they're going to take the test. They're going to look at them. They're gonNA. Look at the players and they're gonNA. Make sure that they're in good health before they move forward, so this is something the idea all looking on and we're all looking on as well. We're pretty scared now. Outside of just the COVID nineteen. There's other things that are taking place this on the table right now. Yes, the black lives matter movement has ramped up and especially with the NBA. We're going to. They decided that they're going to make sure that darndest bubble that they take the chance, and they take the opportunity to make sure they investors gets gets across. Yes, the MBA and MVP A has teamed up and they have. They have king together to allow social justice messages on the backs of the jerseys, so if everybody remembers aren't times of Beatles where they were able to put you there. They were able to put their nickname in the back of their jerseys. Now Desserts is going to be a lot more because it's pretty much going to have the message that everybody. That came up with a pretty good one. I liked it. When I showed that right? But either way I. Think is a great look for the NBA NBA MVP because it's not going to be an Chris Paul actually preached on this. That is not going to be shut up in dribble type atmosphere over there in Orlando. Yes, they're going to be playing games. Yes, you're! Going to be. Taking precautions covid nineteen, but also yes, they're are gonNA. Try and will raise awareness for the black lives matter movement as well as equality within our country, and that is something I think he's a goat meat for the entire MBA. So that's huge. I'm glad they're doing. Now. Also. A lot of other things has been happening. Now, we know that July seven the Denver Nuggets. Is that the leave out to go to Orlando? But if facilities, yes, to seven nuggets, facility has been closer to team. Someone had tested positive and they closed..

"To say. He added I really pay too much attention to it, and then I saw the documentary that was on ESPN few weekends ago. And then that's my really took interest in it. Also because I wasn't really riding a bike like that then and I didn't realize it was twenty six days. I knew that it was. A grueling. Tap to completed, but I didn't realize it was twenty six days, and then I just started paying attention to the excuse now. I'm obviously in the bikes. I'm like man that by costs more than a car. Driving I just have a little cheat bike. That I've Walmart that. Is definitely cheap because it's it's breaking down as as you would expect a higher dollar bike with Soviet one invest in one of the expensive bikes in there. Maybe once I do that. I'll be ready for the Tour de France. Okay, my friend, okay I want to be. What can I be one of the assistance that runs alongside? Shouting at you in French or shouting at you in Italian something like that, you know just saint. Go go go go. Long as you can provide me with Blue Gatorade, it's on the. Or I'll be got Alex sprays the water sprays on. Trying to cool you off at the same time. But I tell you what there's still a lot to talk about twitter frontside and that is the NBA. Hopefully? It's a big word at this time, because the numbers keep climbing my friend, and not in the right direction, because the corona virus hopefully will still be able to go to Orlando I know a couple of teams are in Orlando already, but we seen a lot of issues of the teams that stayed behind or stayed at home for the ones that got rescheduled to practice at their own facility like for instance the Brooklyn Nets. They were of the teams right now are being the most adversely affected by the people dropping out because of fears across virus, or because they have corona virus. You have what De'andre Jordan. Spencer Dinwiddie is most likely or he's on the fence. I should say he's on defense ends at this point. We're talking on the I. Hear that whether or not he's going to go ahead or stare. Go, but de'andre. De'andre Jordan I know he's not the de'andre Jordan of the past deandre Jordan decreed contract corona virus, and he is out I know both of them are claiming well I should say in a roundabout way alluding to the fact that because they stayed in the New York area instead of going to Orlando like they were originally going to do ahead of time. They think that's how they got the coronavirus. which is shocking to me considering that? The Andrew Lives in l. a. and then then with these. La Guy and I would have thought like most of the NBA that has homes in that area would have went to Los Angeles especially, considering how bad it was in New, York but. Later in La County, my friend, it's not much better there. Yeah when know in New York at its peak la was fine, and York seems like it's got a little bit under control, but now the rest of the country is. The numbers keep going. I think they're also missing Wilson Chandler. Nick Claxton said that he's also. I think I don't know if they said he had the if he caught it or that but I do remember that he's not playing, so they're got to be pretty thin at least. Four solid rotation guys, and that's not even including durant. And who they're picking up Tyler Johnson. player to they're not gonNA make less tyler. Johnson suddenly regains the form. He had two years ago or three years ago. They're not going to make that big enough oppression to where they're going to scare anybody now on the Brooklyn Nets there now, probably when you look at the schedules for all these teams. If you see the Brooklyn Nets on your schedule. You GotTa think that's easy win. There is the very real possibility they will fall that half game that they're up on Orlando's fall now down to eight, and possibly if Washington decides. Hey, we want to go ahead and play. They can actually fall out the play offs. It's a small chance, but it could actually happen. Possibly happen well the funny thing about the Tavern Johnson is. They ended up getting the guy they wanted for years ago for about sixty million dollars cheaper. The Soviet worked out in their favor that they didn't end up. The Miami ended up matching that the contract offer who would have thought four years ago, Guy Signs a sixty million dollar deal in that you can pick them up. On the the waiver wire. In June still still it you. What Twenty Six twenty seven? And that still pretty young, yeah! That's hope he can rebound his career because I think that. If something like you said he was, he was really hot that one year I think that was that was the contract year that was two thousand sixteen dollars a big bump year that there were a lot of beneficiaries I always say it. As the all Dang Timofey Mas Gov year, personally for for Lakers fans, which Laker Fans WanNa just go ahead and just check their heads when they hear that but. That was considering that they signed Moscow. July first. That was only present. He would have been available July eighth. Fact. He was the first one I remember like you, said I player. Yeah. I was crazy, absolutely crazy, but. Going forward I think that Brooklyn is going to have a hard time trying to win any of the Games in Orlando and being that the case, there is a very slight possibility. They could slide out of the playoffs. Now Mind you. Even if they were at semi full-strength, they would still not have Kyri. They would still not have Kevin Durant, so they would still not pose much of a threat over Toronto or obviously. MILWAUKEE..

"Dolphins. No Laura I know his name is Brian, floor. The interim head coach of the Brooklyn Nets and we were talking about the. Nets do you remember the? Name Jacques, give Al Credit for attempting to apply logic with the shock and the right that I hadn't thought of that, so that actually made some said just kind of hoping he applied listening to the show yesterday. That would help as well. Start you, but you didn't do now. You're part of the conversation. Because, he had that weird wacky phrase that we kept talking about, and you even chimed in all right. Yeah, I suppose it with these coaches we get, New York, and they've all got like weird things about them, right Mickey callaway was obvious and Boone's got his weird noises in between thoughts I mean we found some Jerry Manual. We've got a lot of good ones. The crazy is Adam. Gays I'm trying to Tom. Call was in a different way entertaining at very entertaining. Yeah, but not in a in a less obviously works Ryan who you say, so. We've been at this now and Chris. You've been a part of it every step of the way. Since two thousand, nine, nine, I started with the with the show. Who would you say has been the most entertaining character sound wise wowed because you just named a good portion of them, I mean even if you go back Jacques Lemaire was fun. That predates me as far as when we were cutting up stuff I. Mean I've heard the man speak I'm Oh. Yeah, and by the way Terry Collins, yeah I mean that might take the cake right there. I don't know man, maybe 'cause it's. I mean come on. Some funny ones, maybe because it's recent, but. Some of Mickey callaway stuff was just incredible. I won't be but almost every press conference remember. I think it was I mean I. Guess, but there was I would yes, it did begin there and we Kinda got a glimpse right away. I think what was going to be like, but there were also if it's a product of some of the onfield results and things that he was forced to talk about and questions, he was forced to answer, but a major head coach slash manager said we're going to love our players more than they've ever been loved before. That was the beginning of the end the beginning of the like of of like. Everyone going soft. Yeah, they say not to judge these guys on their their opening press conferences that one turned out to be turned out to be pretty legit. Yes very nice. I great job today. Thanks very much, guys..

Sports leagues face challenges amid plans to reopen

"Sports world, facing setbacks as leagues hope for a return according to reports several NFL. Players including cowboys star Ezekiel Elliott testing positive for covid nineteen. It comes as Brooklyn. Nets star Kyrie Irving reportedly said he was against the NBA's return. Due to nationwide protests, CNBC DOT COM sports business reporter Jabari, your US tonight along with mark, Ganassi's the CO founder of Sports Marketing Powerhouse Sports Core Gentlemen. It is good to see you mark to the NFL I. How is this news of the positive test playing out? You think in the League office or better, yet Roger Goodell's basement. and which which holds which basement that is into night? Here's the thing Scott. The NFL fully expected that there would be. Positive cases the NFL players are part of society, so they knew it was a matter of when not if it protocols in place, they've been working with doctors and medical with the Players Association. They're doctors and with doctors all across the country and the CDC and they've got this sudden got this covered. This was now it said the phases isolation then the next protocol. Protocol will be participation, so they actually expected this. They actually specter will be will test positive even in the fall when Games are taking place. I was GONNA ask you. What is the League willing to tolerate? Do you think in terms of a case number? It sounds from you as though they are expecting that these cases could rise in. They're still gonNA play. They are expecting. There will be cases, but they do expect you know. Three months ago we just got the virus just took root and look how much more we know three months later. The NFL season doesn't start for three months from now imagine how much more information image the protocols that will know that are better and how to deal with it that we'll know in three months, so the NFL is going to use this time wisely it's GonNa Learn. What happens with the NBA Major? League Baseball, the NHL MLS on the soccer. Soccer Teams in your even the Australian rugby they're in contact with to make sure that the NFL the NFL players, association, have as much information as they can have the best procedures and protocols, so the season takes place, and if there are players that that get virus, they will be isolated. They'll be treated in the games will still take place okay speaking of the NBA. Let's bring in Jabari young now in Jabbar. We have issues as we said possibly. As it relates to the NBA coming back as well. What can you tell us tonight? Well, it's just the same. The internal friction! Players probably. Did Not were not aware of all of the dynamics of what debt bubble Dannon. Landau was going to tell. They know that the MLS is want beat. They didn't know that a Disney up. Employees were not going to be quarantine is so now you have a whole bunch of questions from a league body. That's wondering okay. What's going on? And what are we going to do? Sky's get tested nothing. Obviously you see God like the White Howard and Kyrie Irving. Having their own issues with going back because of the protests in what's going without country from a social injustice standpoint, they have every right to stand up for what they believe in, but from an economic standpoint, the players stand to lose a lot of money. If they don't go back so I don't think there's anybody around the league right now. Thinking that July one NBA wants to come back. That date is not gonNA still be fulfilled I just think as a matter of. of WHO's going to go on the NBA has made it clear. They're not forcing anybody to go, but if you don't go, you don't get paid so if the players don't go, they just sit out. They don't get paid and I think that'll have their own form of protests. Some are voicing their concerns. That may be going would be better because of the high profile that the players would have maybe Lebron James Among those taking that stand. What do you know about that? Absolutely. That's the platform you when you down in the NBA platform and I don't think the NBA, nor espn a northerner sports which the Games will air on would have any problem with the players expressing themselves and I think if you players right now. Maybe you kind of go to the table you go to the owners, and you try to get more, and you say. Hey, listen you want us to come back. How each owner donate to some type of social injustice organization, some type of economic reform in a neighborhood. How `bout to force the owners to give back. You guys want us to go back down there. You want us to risk our lives you. You want out health to wants to go play Hibachi give back to black communities are more than which doing set initiatives aside use this platform to not only makes a Mega Stan, but use it for economic purposes, because guess what the owner Dan and make a lot of money from the NBA players coming back down and Landau and risking their lives and play.

"Yeah! Towards the end of the year they couldn't. They couldn't stop the written consent thrown against the Eagles, either in that week four game. I. Just I think that thirteen and three record is flu. He I agree. I would. If like. If you're asking me, who has a better chance to win a superbowl this year? Green Bay or fairly I'd say Philly, I kind of someone tear though the Vikings might be better than eagles, although with digs gone that hurts. Defense is very good. Kirk cousins a little better people. WanNa postseason though. He did win a game last year at least. Owner type to by the way that throw not too brutal to end the game, but the one before that it was ball. I think it was today, right? That ball is like thousand. Perfect throw. It was an overtime. They throw ball the digs. My producers telling me to wrap up because we can't say nice things about her casting on the podcast. Who Am I? What are the weather? Here cowboys make the case for I would not the better the buffs if I think I said this you on the phone earlier today before we call her a couple of weeks ago. But. I think the boxer. The Tampa Bay bucks are like the new New Jersey or the Brooklyn Nets like when they got Garnett in populous Pearson around thought like Oh. They're going to be good because they got these guys. It's like. Are you talking about those guys? Clearly the hill at the time, and I think it's the same thing with Brady now I think they'll still be. Better than I did last year seven nine, but I wouldn't put them above the eagles. Yeah I. Look I guess a lot of these other teams I don't really see now. The nature of the NFL is. We're going to be wrong about some of this. Some of these teams at the bottom are at least one could jump up. Maybe that's the cardinals, or maybe nicky, foles becomes the quarterback of the bears. You Know I. Don't know maybe gets hot or maybe the rams I'm not really bullish on the ramps. Not Let me think he's they're I. Guess they're so a playoff team. Probably maybe I, don't know Allen out. What do you think about the cardinals? I, think they can make a leap like they think I could I could so I had that like boosted I couldn't think of anything I saw that yeah, I noticed, disparage them. They're on the rise baby. Are on the rise, and there's nothing about me. That annoys me yet I think I think they could be this year's Eagle not like I'm putting all my money on that, but I'm saying like. If you're looking for a team, that could kinda be that big league team at unaware I think probably the best candidate in the NFC for that. Who Do you think is the worst? Stephen NFC I guess it has to be Washington. Okay I don't like Haskins I. Have the I have? The Panther say though I. Could I'm also not a bridgewater guy like the I know he went undefeated. When you're starting last year, we have. You frigging awful in some of those games. He was hair account with team specialties like terrible in Nike. Defense has a chance to be just Larry horrendous. Maybe Matt rule kind of. Role and I'm and I definitely be more scared of the giants that they hired him, but like you know what if he kinda ends up being like a chip. Kelly Kinda Guy. spurrier Kinda guy who like Johnny College just doesn't belong. I don't think he up. I'm just saying leave your outlining the disastrous hearing all right any final thoughts here Jimmy Yeah I got just one more thought on the bottom of the NFC panthers worst I probably go Washington after that. Giants after that. In, the lions blinds got to be in that mix to. and. What do you think the bears? It all comes down to false and what version they get him in. I duNno, because they're down there to me, too, yeah! I think you never know. I'm not a big. You'll naked guy. No. I don't think they're anyway more than Sean mcvay but I think that's that's the definitive bottom for Carolina Washington New, York and Detroit. Those are the. That's the bottom for think you can have any other team in that bottom for all right I just said bottom for like five times Princessa with. Let's let's wrap this up. Final thoughts. "That was that was I'm revealing sources that I should reveal. But he had apparently he was there was this nice little moment that he he mentioned to me where he saw that. That was the day literally the day. I think you had come in to sign it. He initially told you about the contract. I guess it was over the phone. Yeah. So this is the day. You would come back in and true to form for you. Because you take the subway. Yeah. You're strolling across the Costco parking lot to get depressed. You got to cut through the Costco parking lot. When the weather is nice. There's a little bit quicker. Yeah. Sean gets recognize more than that, Costco, parking lot in anybody of thinking if at the moment, you just you're walking through you'd sign that you could have gone in and bought like half of Costco, at that point. She goes on a shopping. The story was going when Sean brings us up for sure you got to go into Costco, and just like go on a spree. I do love, Costco. But how many how many how many of you guys are right across the street. How many members of this team are members of the Costco across say is probably the slim percentage, you know, that Costco. No matter what every time that you walk pass it. That thing is full jam packed. I don't understand it. Yeah. I know I anybody would want to go in there. We had a membership for years, and I finally gave up. It's just God probably about as hell. Yeah. You know, love your, Costco. But man, I do love Costco, but not win. There's a thousand people in there. So you're taking the subway to practice breakfast facility. Here. You you've walked a game sometimes getting recognized more and more as this team has kind of elevated in stature, and as you've elevated, are you are you finding your like your little bit of fame and neighborhoods, a FARC slope, or or now to be honest. I mean, everything is pretty much the same which is very much is how it should be to be honest. I don't you know, it's not like, I'm sure some people. Might recognize the occasionally. But I don't think people care too much, you know, even the occasional diehard nets fan or a basketball fan. But most of the time, it's you know, people were just kind of to focus on their everyday lives. So worry about you know, who might be going into the restaurant next to him or coffee shop next to them. You know, the Newark has that funny thing about it too. It's not you got to be a really really really big celebrity for New Yorkers tax. She like, stop and stare. Yeah. Definitely tons of. Celebrities. I live here, you know. And it's a little bit different than being in Cleveland or Oklahoma City someplace like that where there is that that is the focus, you know, you are the the main attraction a couple more here before I let you go. There was a great nugget in again in the time story just about the fact that you wrote all your goals on the walls and ceiling. I guess when you were nine years old the family home, they actually had photos of it because they're still there. Your your parents did not have the. And the quote scrubbed clean. That's fantastic. What's your favorite quote or goal that was that was scribbled for major nine? Yeah. I wrote a lot of different quotes from, you know, some prominent sports figures and probably my favorite one on there. Just because it was kind of directly in front of my bed. Like, I would see every morning when I got up, and when I go to bed, and it was his quote from John wooden, and it was a success is a peace of mind, knowing you did your best to become the best you're capable of becoming. And when I was young just always sort of resonated with me. And I mean, I was kind of a goofy young kid. I mean, obviously a die hard sports fan. Loved all sports. Am I come from a big family on all my siblings? Played sports my dad's basketball coach, so you know, I always constantly seen. Different quotes and people will have in. You know, I would watch, you know, maybe a sports century or something like that. And I would see stuff that really inspire me..

"In the last three oh six of game four, what do you remember either those situations your time in the sun in the NBA finals? I mean, obviously that was pretty surreal experience. You know, I'll I'm going on my tire life loving the basketball always been a basketball fan. So for me, my rookie season the be and the NBA finals was an unbelievable experience. It was. Just you know being able to have a front row seat to to all that this the preparation that went into every single game even throughout that play offs. I learned a great deal. And then you know, I obviously I tried to stay right? I wasn't sure you know, if my number would ever be called on. And I got a little bit of garbage time when the game was was out of hand. But I'm just member going in and everybody had had previous finals experienced telling me to be extremely aggressive to try to you have to get a book in the NBA finals. And I actually I don't even think I maybe had a free throw. I think that was about the yes. Combined three minutes and seventeen seconds. And yes, one point slant going one for two from Lola bookie in the NBA finals frito. No, no field goal attempts. You're like the moonlight Graham of the NBA finals third. Get your at bats. But it is it is it a is it a good memory? I mean, it's it is it is the finals or was just one of those kind of strange things surreal to look back and think like I was I was briefly in the NBA finals. And it's it's more of you know, I didn't play significant ROY was an unbelievable experience. Like, I said, and I learned a lot and just seeing the everyday approach for each of those games. I mean, it was incredible. And then to be a part of it was awesome. Just even though you know, I didn't play a lot, you know, sitting and having a role on the bench. She was still an unbelievable experience a lot of fun. But definitely I mean, I don't think back to to be honest. I mean, it is just. Moment. Probably will reflect on a little bit more highly when I'm a lot older when people don't realize that. I oh, yeah. Of course, I played in the NBA finals, blah, blah, you know, being real nostalgic about it. But you know, now, it's sort of more of a blimp than anything else. You've got plenty of time to get back there. This the next year you go through I think it's on the same day. It was in Kelly Whiteside story in the New York Times that on the same day, you have cert- foot surgery. Yes. To get traded to Orlando and cut by arlando. And this is like that that was your your low point. And of course, the Cavs a few months later are winning the first ship in Brazilian years for the city of Cleveland and their first franchise history. Was that tough? I mean, it's tough enough. I'm sure to go through the surgery, and the trade and the being cut, but to to know that if you've been able to hold on for whatever reason with the Cavs, you're part of something this special moment. But did that hit you at the time? Yeah. A little bit. I mean, again, is is sort of, you know, everybody a lot of people like to ask if I got her reading this and that and as much as I would have loved to have been like, yeah, I got I got one or they gave me credit for this. And that I still didn't I I didn't even play in any games that season to be honest. I didn't have any. He's real significant role on the team a lot of it was. A year that was sort of a setback by with injury. And I had surgery in the middle of the year. And then I got a taste of, you know, the true business of the NBA. You know, I got traded the same day had surgery, and obviously Cleveland's into position where there they were trying to win, you know..

"Today cares. The Vert now in crab both back at practice. Yes. That's good to see. You guys are getting hole. But de ngelo Russell's are really interesting case here because he's the one guy who came with the pedigree based on on draft of of that expectation, and I think. Were outs around the league about what is this guy going to become maybe he's got a little bit of selfish tendencies a little bit. You know, you know, caught up in in, you know, whatever there was a certain rep attached there. He looks like a much better version of himself this year you've been with them for you know, more what season and a half. Now, what have you seen from Dangelo in terms of his growth is that about his game is a little bit about personality and just maturity what have you seen from him in the last year and a half? Yeah. Obviously, he's improved a lot. But he came in extremely talented. No, no one ever questioned his ability to play basketball, just plugging into the right scenario and playing winning basketball, honestly, and he's really done an unbelievable job of just being you know, sort of the head of the snake of the Brooklyn nets. You know, we really the success that we've had this year has been you know, we've been rely on him for majority of it. You know, he's had some huge games for us. And even the games where he's not like putting up a bunch of points. He's still with the one. That's facilitating. He's the one that's sort of the quarterback out there the coach on the floor. You know, he is an extremely cerebral player. He thinks the game. And he's very very smart. His basketball Q is extremely high and he's constantly thinking he's constantly thinking about how to get guys shots. How to get guys in rhythm. How to get guys touches and get everybody in playing their best basketball. And I think that is. You know that that is true indicator of really special player when somebody on the team is good enough to make everybody else that much better. And you know, lo is really at that spot right now, you know, the way that he's been playing lately, obviously you've seen him do it individually, but he makes everybody else on the floor much better players as well. I think people around the league kind of wondered too for a little while there that you know, Kenny was closing games. A lot with Spencer and not the Angelo. And yeah, there's a lot of Dangelo fans out there. I'd see on Twitter. We're actually you'll very upset about the idea that you hate he's the guy he's the star. He should be and it's slowly changed. And he's taken on a lot of that that Laking. How did how did you see him handle that? I think the NBA is psychologically difficult league a lot times and people don't really realize that and for him. He never wavered. He obviously competitor. And everyone you wanna play you wanna play it end of games. You know, you can't blame anyone for not wanting to be in the end of the game. That's just you know, human nature, we wouldn't be where we're at. If we didn't have that competitive streak in us, and he handled it extremely well. Just stayed even keel always stayed ready. He didn't let that you know, the decisions early on affect him when he was called upon to play and finish out games. And I think you're seeing now you just never know in this league. When you guys might go down guys my good into a slump it just ebbs and flows. There's a lot of things that happen over the course of a two games. And the most important thing is to just constantly consistently in your mind. Stay ready and to be in that moment, and he's an exceptional job of that. And just, you know, being ready when called upon I think what's striking about it too. Is that you know, in the wake of the trade from the Lakers, and and.

"How does he get space for shots? How does he move within the offense? He's I we're going to run a lot of similar stuff. This is somebody that you should try to emulate, and then you kind of build off of that you figure out how you you know, you where you're getting your shots from you work on those in your skill development. And you know, a lot of is teaching learning growing through and stuff out with with your individual guy and just trying to grow from there. Honestly. And I think that approach in itself from a individual development standpoint is sort of unique because it is so detail oriented and focus and obviously seen significant improvement just from a lot of guys. But that's because of the approach I think is that different than what you experienced. It's only been one for you. And everything is I can't speak on behalf of other teams. I know that a lot of teams have an emphasis on individual development. You obviously have a lot of time to focus on above with us is a little bit more unique. Because you know, we, especially when I first got here, we are a lot of young players just trying to again figure out our way in this Lee figure out what our niche was and how we should play. And we were able to learn through a lot of our mistakes. But we were able to kind of have this self realization moments throughout the growing pains where we figured out, you know, who we were as basketball players. I think your first seasonable league you shot somewhere around thirty seven percent from three which is good. Like that's a good solid percentage for a guy who comes into the three point shooter. You're no in that forty five percent range, which is spectacular. You're forced in the league as we record this today. What makes a difference in that that point eight per eight percent of whatever. But that that increments is that about the shots. You're taking is it about selection is it about the shooting stroke itself. Like what what does shooter improve to get those incremental move. Yeah. I think it's all of it to be honest because shooting at the end of the day is all about rhythm and confidence. And so, you know, we got into position now where steadily I've ever improved my percentage each year and a lot has to do which is more confidence in obviously myself. But then and where I'm getting. My shots from the rhythm of the offense. You know, who you're playing with me with the guys on the court. And you know, I go into each game kind of having a an idea of where. Okay. These are probably where I'm going to be able to get my shots from and you know, again, it goes back to that individual development, and as the things that I work on. So it's not like, it's any service prize. When I get into the games are I'm caught off guard taking shots, and I might be unfamiliar with all the shots that I gave him the games or the shots. I practice. There was actually a story about Michael Scotto from the athletic where he noted that your routine involves shooting from specific spots. Yes. So those are those are like you're only spots. Like explain where those are end. Is it is it that rigid for you that you know, obviously unless the clock is running down. But is it really about like these are the spots where I'm most comfortable and most effective. He definitely I think like I said earlier just about I'm not an isolation player. I'm not gonna be facility. I don't work on that. Because I know that. That's not my game. And the things that I work on are very much situational and specific spot driven. So I look look at you know, where I get shots from it makes it a little bit easier when you play against the team once for example. So you know, whether a game against Denver coming up tomorrow. Go back watch the film against Denver. See how they defended against us to last time out kind of warehousing to get shots from and I really will will focus on that in my mind. But then my pre game routine is very consistent with just shots die over the course of my career have traditionally got, and I try, and you know, hammer, those home and be again, it's it's developing the consistency..

"But then more importantly, they raped the plug in for what they were trying to personality what they're trying to build from a cultural standpoint here, all that said, you guys have you can't possibly have expected this yourselves either. Could you have I mean, I know everybody's got automate confidence. Everybody wants to win and everybody comes into the season expecting to win. But I think even the most optimistic analysis of this team preseason would have been you know, what everything breaks, right? Maybe they make a run at the eighth seed for you guys to be over five hundred this point. And also given that you guys had a bit a bit of a rough start. Besides are you guys waking up each morning, look at the standings and kind of like having that same kind of feeling of pleasant surprise? You know to be honest. We don't put a ton of obviously, you know, we're we're we're pleased with where we're at up to this point. But at the same time we have expectations on ourselves just every day trying to be about the process and get better. And I think. A lot of that has to do with our coaching staff with Sean, and what they tried to try and build around here where we are very detail oriented focus on the little things and just trying to, you know, play play basketball the right way and get better collectively working visually. And you know, I think when you do that. And that's your process, and your mindset, the rue the results follow, and we're kind of gotten to that point where we've really, you know, credit to the organization where we stuck with this system for the last couple of years. And now you're starting to see sort of the fruits of your labor. You're seeing starting to see a little bit of a breakthrough. But the same time, you know, I think what we look at the way that we look at is that this Lee is so difficult. I mean, we experienced a seven game losing streak earlier in the year. We know how easily you can fall into that. And fall victim to you know, shift of momentum loss of confidence ebbs and flows. The NBA season are very difficult, and they can become wind e and for us. It's about just staying even keel. And staying with that process and not really getting too involved in worrying about you know, where we're sitting in the standings or worrying about oh, actually, this is nice. It's about the process is about trying to get better every day. And that's where where the focus has got a line like where we try and focus each day. Was there a moment this season where you actually it all kind of clicked into place or you looked up particular win. Where was that that moment that kind of cemented at that? You know, what we're actually good now. I think honestly early in the season we were feeling that way. When we had everyone healthy, you know, we were just we're good rhythm both offense defensively guys. We're sort of establishing their roles and then care goes down. And you know, obviously, we didn't know the severity of the injury is difficult rebounding from that especially because cares had sort of solidified himself as sort of our Goto option. He hit a couple of, you know, last second shots for us against the Knicks and against Denver, and you know. You know that happens, obviously, we take a little bit of a dip other guys get banged up a little bit. We lose his seven games in a row, you're trying to reestablish yourself. But then I think a lot of the credit has to go to obviously, the coaches, but the the is the veteran guys that we have in our locker room that Jared Dudley. Ed Davis tomorrow, Carol those guys that have been around and been a part of of of really good playoff basketball teams had a lot of success in this league..

"How you how how have you embraced that as a small town kid from Washington being the Brooklyn hipster now, I've definitely embraced. I me. I think you know, this is my third year here, and I've sort of become a product of my environment say, you know. Definitely taken on the Brooklyn. Look, I guess, you know, hipster as you will with the beard. But really, that's the only thing that's changed is just the fact that I, you know, grow beard, and then all of a sudden, you know, I'm blending with all the local brew baristas and knife artisanal knife makers in the Brooklyn area. Have you tried to make a knife yet? No, no. That's next up on the agenda. I know are you a member I have to ask them a resident of park slope. If you a member of the park slope food coop or now. I haven't quite got there yet. Yeah. Well, thanks for for taking some time out. We are recording this on Tuesday afternoon. So we are still a couple days away from the trade deadline. So it's tense interesting week around the NBA, and we're we can a half away from all star weekend where you are reportedly heading to be part of the three point contest. Yes, how do you prepare for that? I mean, it's, you know, it's funny that don't contest guys. It's always about all these secret workouts? They've got a dunk coach. And they're drawing up plans and blueprints. And yeah, three point is. It's basically just what you do every day. Is there such a thing as preparation for the three point shooter? I mean to be honest. I haven't I haven't practiced. She nothing rack, but I've been told that it is a little bit of a difference. You have to get Justice to you know, grabbing looking down grabbing off the rack and shooting and trying to do it quickly in the whatever minute that you have. So I probably I will definitely practice it. A couple of times I'm not gonna just go into a willy nilly. So. You know, that's definitely leading up this this week or two definitely get some reps on on the rack just practice that obviously my shooting that stuff so stay the exactly the same. But just opposite shooting off rack is a little bit different. There's there's nothing that anybody would have done like, it's not something. You would have practiced in the now right now never practiced it ever before I've never shot off Iraq, actually until the nets had the little promotional thing. Earlier in the year where they were trying to get me into three point contest. And they had me just kinda messing around and take a couple of shots off a standard ball rack. And that was the first time I've ever actually done it before going up against both curry brothers, and it's in their hometown. Besides it's a little intimidating. Yeah. I mean, obviously, you know, I'm fortunate to go, but you know, the competition you look across all the names that are going to be shooting. It's obviously all the premier shooters in this league which is excited, and it's gonna be a lot of fun. But you know, you definitely got your work cut out for you. Yeah. "Overall, pick in two thousand sixteen they got him in a trade for Thaddeus. Young Spencer Dinwiddie picked up off the scrap heap in free agency after he'd been traded by Detroit cut by the Chicago Bulls and Dinwiddie was putting up near all star numbers before he went down a few weeks ago. Jared Allen the twenty second overall pick in two thousand seventeen another pick that they manufactured traded boy on bogdonovich to the Washington. Wizards got the twenty second pick which became Jared Allen. So two picks their Jared, Allen and care slivered in the twenty s manufactured by trading veterans and getting picks and then acing those picks. And then of course, Joe Harris second round pick in two thousand fourteen by the Cavs traded to Orlando wave by Orlando picked up off the scrap heap by the nets. And then got a mentioned Demari Carol who. You know, big contract with Toronto didn't work out didn't perform, well, they're the nets used their cap room to absorb him and take two two picks from Toronto as payments for absorbing that contract. Those two picks a first and a second have become Jenan Moussa and rodeo Kuru who are both looking like very promising young players. They got those three guys tomorrow Carol who's been a very good rotation player for them, plus the two young guys Mussa and kooks for Justin Hamilton, and if you're saying, ooh, yeah. Exactly. Justin Hamilton phenomenal job. I Sean marks to assemble all these guys fantastic job by Kenny Atkinson and his staff for developing them, all and that's the real key to to the Brooklyn nets. That is the story of this franchise as it sits right now they've done a fantastic job in developing guys. Whether they're young guys coming in straight out of the draft. Whether they are rehab projects from somewhere else guys who didn't work out somewhere else. Everybody who's playing for Brooklyn in the last year or two has improved by being there. Incredible testament to what they are building. And by the way, they could have to max slots this summer to spend on free agents. And I can't imagine why. Kevin durant? Kawhi Leonard Jimmy Butler, anybody else wouldn't consider the nets because they've already got a great supporting cast sitting there waiting great arena there in New York. No, it's not the Nixon. I understand the Knicks have the mystique, but the nets have all the same advantages in the market. So it'll be interesting. I'd be interesting to see whether the superstars do consider them. But I wanted to have on Joe Harris because Joe as much as any of these guys, I mean, they're all similar story. He hit him is is what they're building what they've become. And he gives us that insight into what what would that mean when we talk about culture or player development? Joe Harris is a product of that. So I thought it'd be great to have him on this team as I say is exceeded all expectations. Joe Harris who now, you know, the fourth ranked three point shooter in the NBA by percentage has exceeded. Al- explications and got a nice contract. As reward last summer. There are really fun story. Joe Harris has a really fun guy to talk to. He's got that hipster beard that makes him look so perfect in Brooklyn. So we talk about the hipster beard pad to talk about the player development talk about what you do to prepare for the three point contest at all star weekend, not normal to just grab a bunch of balls off the rack, and and shoot. And we talk about his brief cameo in the twenty fifteen NBA finals while he was still with the Cavaliers fun conversation. Really enlightening. I think you're gonna enjoy it. And so here, we go my interview with Joe Harris, I'm now joined by the most Brooklyn of all the Brooklyn nets guys just as skilled at hitting a three point shot as putting three shots of Espresso endure Ganic, then brewed lots. How's that for an intro? Joe hairs that that's an intro right there. I definitely haven't heard that one before. I didn't work in the artisanal and need to work in artisanal and beard is artistic beard is definitely artisanal or this. This has become your persona especially this year, not really until the beard, suddenly the beard arrives. And now, you are you're like more than just the Brooklyn. Nets greatest three point shooter. You're like the nets mascot. Me of Brooklyn..

"Bleacher report. My guest today is heading Charlotte soon to compete in the three point shootout. Yes, that is Joe Harris of the Brooklyn nets. He'll be taken on the curry brothers, and some others and representing the Brooklyn nets. Yeah. The nets one of the feelgood stories of the NBA season felt like it was overdue to bring on somebody from the franchise. I know a bunch of you have been requesting that of heard from you and apple podcasts in the comments section there and on Twitter folks, clamoring for somebody from the nets because this has been one of the better stories in the NBA this season, clearly the Sacramento Kings out west similar, and I feel overdue to get somebody from the kings on here. But the nets are just a fascinating. And I kind of want to go into this real quick before. I bring on Joe Harris because I think it's been lost. Just how incredible their turnaround has been it was only a couple years ago. They were deemed the most hope. Franchise in the NBA. I think by ESPN, and it was totally justified. Right. They they not only had no talent in the wake of the tear down of that. Joe Harris, Joe Harris. The Joe Johnson Darren Williams brook Lopez era, de unfortunate, jevon Garnett Paul Pierce trade that cost them all those picks. And so when Sean marks and Kenya Kitson took over few years ago. It was considered hopeless. Not only because they were you know, they had no talent. But they had no picks to get that talent. That was a unique situation. I don't think there had been anything like it in modern NBA history or or possibly ever to be a franchise that was that far down and with no clear path to getting better. And it's interesting to look at this. The nets were lasting in the playoffs in two thousand fifteen so it's only been three years that they've been out. And right now, they are as I record the sixth in the east twenty eight and twenty seven record and they're pretty certain to make the playoffs. And so it will only have been a three year. Really? There are five teams in the NBA folks that have been out longer most of which are not going to make it this year either. I'm gonna go through this real quick just for perspective here the Knicks and the nuggets have not been in the playoffs since twenty thirteen. So that's two years longer than the nets drought. And of course, the nuggets will make this year, the Knicks someday, but the nuggets are going to breakthrough in spectacular fashion. But those teams have been out longer. The magic have not made the playoffs since twenty twelve been in the lottery every year still no closer to the playoffs. The Phoenix Suns have not made the playoffs since two thousand ten the tail end of the Nash Stoudamire era and they've been in lottery every year and are absolutely nowhere near finally making the playoffs. And then finally, of course, the Sacramento Kings, no playoffs since two thousand six as a loan drought, folks. And again handle their picks still couldn't breakthrough and the nets with no picks under their own control traded away or given in pick swops. Are somehow here on the doorstep of the playoffs with what we got twenty seven. Or so games to go is incredible. And they've done it with mostly cast-offs and rehab projects. Their highest picked player, of course, Dangelo Russell who they got from the Lakers who were tossing them aside. The Lakers were ready to move on the nets trade brook Lopez and the pick that became Kyle. Kuzma, let's be fair. But still de ngelo Russell now all star has very much earned it. And he's. I don't even he's not even the face the franchise. They've multiple faces of this franchise because they have they have gotten so many guys who have just come here and overachieved care slivered who was their best player when he went down a couple of months ago twentieth..

"And I think teams have to show restraint and almost never do. And I think it's kind of log jammed trades over the last couple years because there's been so many contracts if so, many teams trying to get money off. So few teams with space to take it on and to take it on or to do it, and they want pick got a mortgage your future. That's not really worth. And I think it's, I think it's stymied a lot of movement. The last I would say, have been fewer trades in the last eighteen months, whatever it is, and almost every train. What's amazing to is like every trade is a money. There's so few trades ever anymore that have just basketball traits for sure. Like the one I can think of like last year and I can't think of many like it was nurtured for Mason Plumlee. It was okay. We think my guy each thought, the other fit a little better, not really money driven. It was more fit and you don't see many of those? No, no, you definitely don't. I mean, you think about when I signed my contract three for thirty, it's hard to move. I'm getting. I'm getting the money the new money earlier. So now someone who might be my skill level, he might be making four five trying to get a new deal. And so to build a move, someone like myself, Tyson Chandler, you kind of had to wait to all these other guys get these contracts. So for them to move me, kind of like the clippers did throwing. The first you gotta throw in a second, the two to take on that salary and made a lot easier now expiring contract. So teams are taken that on the last year where when the Lakers are trying to get off the Moscow off, you know, Brooklyn took on Russell. It's always what the asset. So now some of these teams have to are you gonna mortgage some of your future. And that's why Phoenix in Boston and a good job of getting these picks in that you saw in Philly game that pick from Phoenix some stuff as crucial, Miami mortgage, their picks Brooklyn couple years ago, mortgage their picks, and you see that these picture more valuable today than air have..

"So I think that he uses words wisely. He's smart about it, Chris, Paul being a star and being the head of the union. You see that all the time and then you go to Commissioner. He usually gets a head of the problem. When he came to the anthem, we heard that he met with players, hey, those we're trying to do in players are you know? I'm in the sterling thing. We, we heard that his his little tape, we didn't wanna play. Now is a playoff game. We catch a loss for a playoff. I think it was a regular season game. I don't think we would have played now being the playoffs first round, we're trying to win a championship and then what he did right away getting rid of the owner like that ever happened in. I don't see it to be you if someone who said that I would have been fine. So you're right players have a lot more power nowadays. Yeah. And I think you mentioned silver. And the players him going to them talking at the time. You were a great beneficiary of the union, not going with the smoothing. There was a cap, spike, huge, huge and do think that the players at the time I knew the agents were all very concerned with how this was going to play out that there would be a class of players really two classes, two summers of free agents that we're going to get paid well, and then the market was going to do it on the last two years really tighten up. Sure. Do you sense the players really knew as much as they should have that even the union leadership outside of shell Roberts? I mean, the players on the executive committee's player reps did they know enough about how this might play out and made a decision based on we're gonna do this over. We're going to allow a few to be paid at a much greater rate than than what's going to be available next couple years. Just out of dumb luck that they're free agents this year. I don't think they knew exactly. I think they had a, you know, kinda gauge. It where you know remember Roger Mason was talking about it with Michelle Roberts and they just wanted to have it. They wanted to be the owner. It was something that sometimes when when the Lee come see about something, you just fight justified it. That's what I always. I mean, that's this is what the league wanted, and it was Michelle had been was just starting job. And I do think there was some feeling of we're going to resist because we don't wanna look like we're giving into their idea, right? We want to show the players that we're here to fight for them. We're not just if it wasn't the league coming to them with the proposal. I think it might have been viewed differently, but it wasn't the wanna look like we're bending to, you know what? I have to extent, you know, Michelle Roberts, smart woman. She probably gays it both ways if I talked about it. But yes, I mean, anytime Lee comes vice versa, we came to lebeau something their fightback first and then my let it go through. So I totally believe that looking back on him, I with a huge benefit. Obviously, you know the money now guys like Thomas gained the minimum. These guys aren't minimum players. These guys have got gypped because of the was just no space. And because of what happened a couple years ago, I think that what we know now it would definitely would have been smooth in to let Kevin Durant to the warriors the league, the leak, that back the league would have fought it to the league. Wanted that players in that if you if you had all players vote on it, they wouldn't have wanted that. So they would have you know, players like myself till elevates Ryan Anderson. Lo, a lot of contracts they gave out they a lot extra money that being said is that's limit on the teams and leaks were, hey, you gotta know, hey, what players coming up in the future. And because of that, it's been tight. And I think that next year kind of get back to free flow spending. Yeah..

"From when you got into the league Jared to now. How different is the mentality of the star player in the league about what they want, what they're looking for in a situation as it changed dramatically from when you first got in the league to now and how they view where they want to go, what the criteria are and how they fit into is chain because the star players are younger. So you got the first star player I played with with Steve Nash of team guy older and his career Amar Statham. I, I think the rules was the TB, so it kind of. It kept more less player moving. They were staying in. Their shack was over there. Now guys like John wall Jaanus. These guys are stars because they're coming in nineteen their stars at twenty four, twenty five, we're, hey, their fringe. They're all friends. They, I'll play you the social media. They're all l. a. in the summertime. So they're hanging out. You saw the other day LeBron coming out of a restaurant katie's leaving. So even when you lose in the finals, you lose the playoffs. You saw season McCullough his podcast he's doing with Kevin Durant, so he's all cool. So they're wanna play with them LeBron I'm I saying star the team up. He started teaming up in a cool way where he went to Miami, how he did it. He won the championships Durant. I wouldn't call it the cool way. I would call it the easy way. You know, we all have different sides of how we're going to do it. So you see, Jimmy Butler wanted to move guys. They're easily wanted to move. And I think we think now two thousand nineteen of you're told that market Brooklyn available Knicks Lakers Philly. These major markets and we almost certain where see three or four stars move this next coming. And we may see a new level of tampering over the next layers. Know how tampering works. Can a player tamper with another plane player. Can't that, and that's allowed. So player can recruit, you know, when the Golden State players recruiting Kevin Durant was legal, it's it's management. They can't do it. Ownership can't do it right, but we all know it exists. I think in the next year, especially because you have with multiple spots where teams are gonna be trying to partner player. I think it's going to be real interesting. Civil has his work. I, it's hard to catch him. They caught the Lakers and with a little fine. They got little little hundred dollar Bill for Magic Johnson. I mean, it's hard to catch them agents. Then you know what goes on at in the day. If you have a good organization in his tighten it, you don't have anything to worry about it because I mean, when I hear bossom when I hear even the Spurs when you hear these top organizations Miami and you hear the reputation, they have you don't wanna leave. You want. Other players is to other organizations where I've been around five or. Six different teams where, hey, is not as tight. It's not. It's not a run the right proper way, and that's when people want to team up one Aleve. And if you can't bring another star in their players team up more more than ever do you think players? I think there's more information available to everybody now than there ever was that players a lot of it's word of mouth to and your experiences and places. But you know, the agents know where the organizations they respect sense. The players know more than ever about who the GM's are, what the front office is, the ownership, that those are questions guys asked more about and want more information about than ever in that. Those are bigger parts of decisions. I wasn't even a freezing this year and I probably talked about twenty free agents of what's going on when it comes to. I'm Kufuor, Jay z. Radikal Lowery. So when it comes to the market and talking about the market this year compared to next year, half the league is free agent, knowing organizations. This we asked, we wanna know how their practice schedules, how do recovery flying. So we want. Renault and so we're gets out of who does this around the league is there's no more player friendly coach than might Dan Tony of how he does practice schedule. How does this freelancing? And because of that young teams don't get that the vet teams get their players..

"They were talking to like everybody else put their sort of top guys off limits, and they tried to do deals built around picks and good players. Great ones. And part of it was everybody felt he'd be a rental and the Lakers felt. We'll just get him next year. So we're not getting our team different reasons, but it is harder to like, especially in those other markets, the risk of. Of like even Phoenix of Kyrie Irving walking on you for. Sure, right. And that's why what I think Masai Jerry did is it took a lot of guts because you know there's a very good chance Leonard is going to walk on them. This isn't Paul, George, he's a different personality than Paul. George, you know coli, they got a ton of work to do to sell him on Toronto, but you set it how players get to smaller markets. They are so limited and how they can acquire great ones. And then can they keep them because we've seen players are willing to take less money to go and the fact that star players are willing to take less money, there's no legislation, there's no rules you can put in. You can keep making more advantages for the small market teams in terms of, you know, they can give you a five year deal to stay where you are versus going somewhere else for four. You know, you can make more money staying where you are supermax contracts quite Leonard and want to supermax from the Spurs he was willing to leave. And the fact that guys are willing to take less to me, it really hurts smaller markets quite a different situation than most. Because of him that speaking him being involved him wanting to leave such a lead organization has won a title that isn't contention. I think we all would say with quite Leonard healthy, their top fourteen to have a chance. So that's a very rare situation. I respect with Toronto did because they're going for it, and their whole thing is, hey, you have Houston at the Lakers coming up. Know you have gone state already there. Let's try to go for one time and that's where we're Phoenix kyri where, hey, you've been so bad. Get excitement, get the bus. So I know they lost Rosen, but their excitement around quite because of quite comes back to where he is quite easily top five player in the NBA. In my opinion, offensively defensively, he doesn't resign calories last year. It's a contract you my Bill off of it, and then you regroup and you try to go back up again, but at least you have your show you're telling your fan base when we have a chance we're going to go for. I think fan base is respected because a families as mine, rebuilding. If it's done the right way in Phoenix, they knew a couple of years, even in the process, you saw Philly. But it is where you just keep drafting guys over and over and over you, Trey, you keep drafting. You don't ever get a big fish and that's where we're Phoenix's haven't got that big fish and I think that they're doing it to. Okay. Seaway just draughting drafting and seeing eventually if they get close enough thing.

"Pick via the kyrie irving trade with boston and it stayed at ace because the nets won twenty eight games which if you look at the roster and you consider the time lost to injury by jeremy lin dangelo russell the rest players it's pretty incredible it's actually pretty admirable so i do believe there are brighter days ahead for this team i think kenny's got them on the right track clearly they need some top level talent but they absolutely overachieved this year and they did ruin the kyrie irving trade for the cavaliers i don't think the eighth overall pick is what they were hoping for when they made that deal so can you just talked about for lack of better term the process but what it's how you get through a season knowing going in that it's going to be a long haul there's going to be a lot of losses accrued what do you do psychologically to kind of keep yourself keep your players up where do you draw the satisfaction from along the way so we talk about that a lot and just his impressions on a few other fun things around the league kenny coached al horford when kenny was the development coach down in atlanta so he's got some insights into the key role that horford's been playing for the celtics we talk a little bit about what he's learned from mike din tony who he coached with with the knicks and mike buttonholes are obviously who coche under with the hawks who's just been named as the bucks head coach just fascinating stuff kenny's one of the just alltime good guys in the league and just a fun conversation with him as i say i do think there brenner days ahead for the nets though it's still going to be a waste there's there's there's some work to do there but i think they're in the right hands before we get to the interview just want to remind you all if you enjoy the podcast please not only subscribe to us and apple i tunes or apple podcasts whatever your preferred platform but give us a rating leave comments all of that stuff absolutely helps us out really appreciate.
