The couple started making music together while living in New York, but after Hurricanes Maria hit Puerto Rico. It decided it was time to go back home that return in the very meaning of home inspired their new first album. That could SA. I am not a native Spanish speaker, so I had never heard the word was skull Ya and so I loved it and I love the definition being a troublemaker. Are you by nature a troublemaker? I mean I would say no. But I do like i. kind of like what it implies in a way I do think that I'm always curious. I don't know I feel like I. Do have may be a troublemaker sort of nature when it comes to maybe making music like I like to take two worlds that are not supposed to come together and bring them together like to create and work with tension, so maybe in a way. That's why I was very much drawn to the name. Growing up in Puerto Rico. What kind of music was on her? On my Dad's side, a lot of so three. Oh Music Rock. He loved rocks and on my mother's side. My mom was more like an MTV head like. She just loved Madonna Prince Chardonnay. She was like more like mainstream. So I think that she will was more to English meet like English spoken music, and Spanish music, so we heard a lot of that, and that's mostly what Puerto Ricans here like we you know. Our airwaves are all like top forty American music, so we grew up with a lot of American music on the radio. But also like. And a lot of the Puerto Rican music was really has always been really important for my dad and my dad really taught me to love the music that was from my home country. Sucre up on the island. What's the turning point where you decide? You want to move to New York. Well I mean I studied architecture and design, and it was working at an office, and then I felt that really that may be. Our design wasn't really what I wanted to do. Like a wanted to be creative. And, so, I got I got into Rhode Island. School of design for my master's degree and I decided to textiles, and so I kind of knew that I might ticket to get into new. York was to actually go to maybe a school where I could get a job in new. York because I always dreamt about going to New York I mean my. My mother was born in the Bronx, and my parents were flight attendant, so I saw them come back and forth, and you know. New York has such a powerful presence in movies in the media. always felt like as a creative person that I wanted to go to New York and see like like I wanted to kind of find myself creatively there. How did you meet Lewis? Lewison I met at a friend's Party I. Mean I feel when you're Puerto? Rican your Puerto Rican near New York. You're bound to just be in party you'll. You'll probably meet anybody if you're around the same age I had the sort of like Make Ban with my friends Ban The way you putting it in quotation marks. Because I think it was sort of like mostly like a band that we never really kind of record anything we had songs, but it was mostly to pass the time and have fun like it was a timer. Like single just writing about like you know like just being single in the city, and it was kind of like a silly kind of project, but we were kind of playing our songs and. We used to do like weird like Spanish covers of pop songs, and we were doing a cover of bed romance of Lady Gaga in Spanish. and. I didn't know how to finish the song. I didn't know the cords Lewis comes in. I know the course of that song. And then he came in, and we finished a song from there on I knew he made music that he had like a whole history with bands. He had actually come to New York to make music end. Just like that we connected. We started hanging out jamming and. I showed some demos that I had with with the beginnings of what was boost cowboy Dan was super excited about it and immediately we. We hit it up and we started making music and we fell in love. But which came first the music or the Romance I have said a music came I for sure I. Main I'm seven years older than Louis so in a way I kind of felt a little bit like I. Don't really know if this is GonNa be a good thing. Again felt a little bit nervous, but I'm like, but I have a lot of fun with this person and he's super talented, so the music did come first.

How One Covid-19 Victim Was Lost in the Chaos

"Images and stories from the pandemic that will be seared into many people's memories forever. One of them was the discovery in April of rental trucks, holding dozens of dead bodies out a funeral home in New York City. The people found that day were victims not just of the coronavirus, but of a system overwhelmed one of them was seventy two year old nathaniel hallman. He lived in the Bronx with his wife Mitzi. They were married for forty two years. He repaired whirlpool appliances and in retirement he and his wife or a Deacon and deaconess at the Church of the Meek Baptist. Harlem they visited. visited the sick and shut ins in early April at the height of the pandemic and New York City home in was at a Rehab Center in the Bronx, where he was diagnosed with nineteen, the sent him to the hospital next door where a few weeks later he succumbed to the disease, but that's not where the story ends. It's where it begins our reporter Michael Phillips. He died on April Seventeenth, at Saint Louis Hospital and his goddaughter hope who is a very astute person. decided she would take responsibility for making sure that he was cremated and taking care of and and so his wife is widow. mitzi wouldn't have to do it. And so hope was under the impression that she had only seven days to get his body in the hands of funeral director, or the hospital would give the body to the city, and the city would bury him in a mass grave on Hart Island, which is a the Potter's field for New York City. One hundred and fifty years that the people have been left behind have been buried on on heard island. And, so she thought okay I've got a week to find somebody to take care of the body, and she started calling funeral homes, and they were all full. This was the height of the epidemic of hundreds and of New Yorkers were dying at a day on the day that that Daniel died three hundred eighty four New Yorkers died. And so the funeral homes would just overloaded. She called something like twenty funeral homes, and they all said we can't take him. Her Middle Son was even doing an internship at a Newark New Jersey funeral home and they were full to take Nathanielsz bodies. So she grew more and more panicky over the course of the week, and she contacted a family friend Reverend up in Connecticut, Marshall, Morton and Reverend Morton being in the you know the business of of being a clergyman new number of funeral home directors called up an old contact that he had named James Robinson. Mr Robinson worked out of a funeral home in Neptune City New Jersey as well as one in Brooklyn. And so he said, according to Reverend Morton I'll take care of this for you. I've got it and please. Please take the body down to my funeral home in Neptune. So the Reverend and hope son managed to find a funeral director, who would could drive the body out of New York to Neptune New Jersey Neptune city. And deliver it just before the what hope thought was the deadline at the hospital. They get the body out of there, so they took the bodies of Neptune city Mr Robinson the funeral director was not there. A person who was there said I'm sorry. I can't accept this body. They called up. Mr Robinson the funeral director. And this is where there's a lot of disagreement about what took place, but from the point of view of the family and Reverend Morton. What happened was Robinson said. I didn't mean for you to take it to. New Jersey Take my place in Brooklyn, this is something that that Mr Robinson disputes. He says he never said such a thing. The driver took the body up to Brooklyn to a funeral home called likely funeral services on UTICA avenue in Brooklyn. He dropped the body off there with the people who were there. They put it in. A refrigerated truck was parked on the street. And the family assumed everything was OK at that point. The body was supposed to be cremated on the twenty ninth so a few days later. And when hope called the the crematory to ask whether or not or godfather had been had been cremated, she got an answering. Machine were closed for maintenance the next day. She got answering machine message, but Never received confirmation he had been cremated. During this time news broke about all these bodies in Brooklyn in U. Haul trucks, and that was the same address where they had dropped off Mr Hallman. So hope began to panic and put things together. She called up the Reverend. The Reverend put things together. They all started to worry and at that point they tried to get Mr Robinson to explain where the body was. They tried to get a funeral home to explain where the body was tried to get the city. Medical Examiner explain where the body was, and they just couldn't find. It took until the fifth of May until. Finally learned that her godfather's bodied Nathaniel Hamad's body had actually been in the back of an unrefrigerated u-haul truck left on the street in Brooklyn, just a horrible horrible discovery, and it wasn't the end for Nathaniel. Family, who then spent several weeks trying to get his body and arranged for his final resting. What happened after this? There was another misstep when the bodies were discovered at the funeral home. In the U.. Haul trucks hope called the city medical examiner's office. They had come over. You know when the when the police got there and the after nine one one call reporting bodies and trucks on the street. You know hope called everybody. She could find the governor's offices. The attorneys general of the State of New Jersey and New York. You know. Where's My Godfather? And when she called the medical examiner's office, they had already collected sixty one bodies from the trucks and from clerk. Lee's funeral home itself, including many that would simply on the floor in various states of undress, and on the floor of the Chapel at the funeral homes just loaded with bodies. And so she when she called the medical examiner's office, they went through the list of all the bodies. They retrieved from the funeral home from the trucks. And Nathaniel Holman's name was not on the list, so for days and days she couldn't find out where he was. She even went over with Reverend Morton to the funeral home. Mr Clearly was not there at the time. Mr Robinson was not there at the time and she said. My father was here. Where is he and couldn't couldn't get an answer? And, what happened was and the fifth of May. That medical examiner's office discovered that the name on his paperwork had been reversed as hallman nathaniel so when they had looked up the bodies they had. When hope it call then they looked in their record, says he will what bodies we have. Do we have in home? It came up as a negative. The only had a home in faneuil. And by the fifth of May, they figured this out, and now remember he died on the seventeenth of April, so we're no weeks into this, and only then does hope discover that. In fact, her godfather had been in one of trucks and was now in the care of Medical Examiner's office. At that point, the the medical examiner said look. We have him safe. He's in. You know in cooled unit, so he's he won't decay. To be blunt about it. You can leave them here until you find a funeral director. WHO's able to cremate him? which is what the family wanted to do, so they held onto him and it wasn't until five weeks after his death. I think thirty nine days exactly after his death that they were able to get him cremated, and now his ashes are in an urn that his his widow Mitzi keeps at her bedside Michael. What else did you hear from city officials in response to this as well as from the quickly funeral home. The state authorities suspended Mr Claes. Licensed to act as a funeral director, and then held a series of hearings online hearings to decide whether to permanently revoked his license for you know poor practices, the ruling has not yet come out. They've had three hearings and the lawyers have submitted final closing statements, but the administrative law judge has not yet ruled on whether to revoke his license in listening to the at least one of those hearings, and in talking to Mr.. Claes attorney, he's basically the the argument is they were holding the bodies in the U. Haul trucks as they were moving them from the refrigerated truck which was. Recognized waited two whole bodies into the funeral home to be packaged up four cremation. And so he said we would keep them in the in the U. Haul trucks for a while and then move them. It was hard I think for the prosecuting attorney. I guess he'd be called the prosecuting attorney. Understand that because the argument is why not just move them from the refrigerated truck all the way into funeral home instead of stopping. This is just a matter of a few yards, so stopping and putting them in a truck. Mr Quickly. That's Mr Clarke's defense as well as his lawyer said to me. Look the whole city was inundated with bodies. Just wasn't enough. Space to handle the mall and so things happen. And he said that he thought it was unfair that his client Mr clinically was being singled out when so many other funeral homes were also overcrowded in his in his argument. So, that that is his defense Mister Robinson's defense. He has not been charged with any anything by the state. He has not been his has not been suspended, but in talking to him, his argument is. I never had that body. I never signed any paperwork saying that that body was under my control so everyone who says that I did agree to take control of Mr. Hammond's body is line. That is his argument. There are text messages back and forth in which he says that he would take care of the body, but he also said and give me the paperwork, so there's now a lawsuit underway Msci Hallman and hope dukes. Who is the the Goddaughter of Daniel? Hallman have filed suit against the he quickly home as well as Mr. Robinson And are seeking damages for what they describe of course as mistreatment of Nathaniel remains. Michael as you say, and as you've heard from many of the people in this story, Nathanielsz body was one of dozens discovered in rental trucks during the height of the pandemic. What did reporting out the story and what happened in this one case? Tell you about what happened here in New York at the height of this. So, what are your takeaways from this tragic story? This won't come as a surprise to anybody but. When the pandemic really hits and went really hit New York. Hardest I. At least in the United States of course. It just overwhelmed the system. The city and the people who who manage these things would just not ready for overwhelming the doctor. Was Internal Internist resident at Saint Barnabas Hospital. Who took? Mitzi up to see Nathaniel before he died is she would cry constantly into her. into a mask and goggles because there's just so much misery. All around her. And the same situation occurred with with the body's. Just the city. Wasn't prepared for the awfulness that that's that hit it. I can't judge whether they should have been more prepared. Or there was some mistake making made made at some point. That's not really within my capacity to judge. But, certainly, it was overwhelmed. And that meant that there are a lot of a lot of collateral damage and. Michi and hope, and of course Nathaniel himself were part of that collateral damage, and now I think. Between lawsuits and historians and journalists looking back at what happened. We'll start to peel that apart and figure out. Who did what who could have done things that were you know could have done things better and who who? Who did the best they could?

"To trump diaz senior supports the dangerous trump agenda that hurt south bronx families, ds, even invited trump to his church, and thanked him for caring for us, but there's a better choice Democrat Ritchie Torres a son of the Bronx and some of his supporters actually started pushing the other candidates to. To drop out because there were concerns that having eleven, progressive candidates in this race was going to split the progressive vote in a way that would ultimately help the reverend come out on top I feel like I'm having a little bit of flashbacks to the Democratic presidential primary, because there were so many more candidates, and the more moderate candidates dropped out and endorsed Joe Biden, which was the turning point that really helped Biden to take the lead that Bernie Sanders had so did these progressive candidates ended up uniting around Richie, Doris, they did not. None of the candidates talked to seemed to be even considering it. And for some, at least Lopez the democratic socialist candidate. It was because she didn't consider Ritchie Torres to be progressive enough specifically, she was really critical of how he'd raised his campaign money. Some of that money came from real estate developers who are interested in building in the Bronx at a time when people are worried that gentrification could push the black and Latino families who've lived in this borough for? For decades out of their homes, and I think that the committee has a deep understanding that if you're a Democrat taking like dirty funding, this is somebody destroyed again. I mean that's just as bad as somebody. Who's anti Lgbtq a because you're selling us out. "So it's not just that funerals are different. A lot of the work behind the scenes his change because of the corona virus. I met up with Sheila Son Chris again. He picked up a body at the hospital. Casket one yeah cast a followed Chris. Downstairs to the basement room to grab a casket for the women. Reproaching the wooden does and this is the pro Rome. This is the embalming room in really walking in there. That was the first moment when the toll of the virus really hit home for me I saw four or five bodies in that room covered in white sheets waiting to be embalmed or put in a casket to send to cremation. There have been several white caskets delivered over the last few days and it was a little bit messy and chaotic down there you eventually. He found the right one and loaded onto the elevator incentive upstairs and their Patricia Hamilton. Who's a funeral director? Who's using macos space? Is instructing him to carefully lift the body back off the stretcher. And load the woman into her casket back. I got you. I got you coming out of this right now. She's allowing the woman's daughter to come by the funeral home to say goodbye suppose. She died of the corona virus. They carefully UNZIP the body bag so that you could see the women's head and shoulders. Russia do a slow. She had been in a refrigerator for a while and didn't really have a lot of color life to her beautiful policy. Fifty four an to Pitcher Sha Hamilton says after this funeral she's entering a self quarantine by gave away eight cases this morning. So now I'm quarantine myself because I became involved with a lot of bodies of the other day. I'm not sick. I'm breathing good. I don't have any kind of physical pain or anything so I don't think I have the chronicle virus but I'm retired as of today. It sounds to me like funeral. Directors in general are really putting themselves on the line. They are all day long. Sheila newkirk is interacting with family members. Who are coming in to make. Arrangements funeral directors are really like another kind of first responder feeling about today and this week. Well for one thing. I'm glad it's over with seems to have been more busy as this week was last week this week. We had thought turning people away at one point. I was in Sheila's office. As she was plotting out her calendar for the next week they were dozens upon dozens of cremations and services. One of the very less people she was able to help was a woman named Madeleine Kendricks. And I'm originally from the Bronx. She was there to bury her godmother. Who's really more like a second mom to her. Coming back here is like coming back home. I buried my father here. I buried my grandfather. Mccall's I buried my mother wouldn't McCall's I buried my father. I mean because it's been in the family for a long time as bronc sites so madeleine told me that her godmother belong to the same Baptist Church for more than sixty years but as she got older it became more difficult to make it two services on Sundays then in two thousand eighteen. They went back there together. On Mother's Day do and I enjoyed thing. Thank God everything. Know Ninety you know ninety five ninety five when you get older Madeline says. Alpha would have wanted a lively funeral at this church with all of her friends and family as well as a full band and acquire but right now none of that can happen when people die they need to be celebrated and there is no celebration of life right now. It's like people are just disappearing. Every life is valuable so she will be very respectfully so that day that you met Madeleine at the funeral. Home is almost a month ago. What have you heard from her sense? So Alpha has been waiting for weeks to get cremated. Things were taking so long that the medical examiner's Office offered to bury her in a temporary grave. The other day I went back to the funeral home with madeline to get an update. They said that Alpha had been sent to Pennsylvania and cremated. There really did that because New York is so backed up. We waiting still for people to be cremated on one hand. Madeleine's really grateful that her Godmother Alpha his finally been cremated. But there's no real sense of closure because those ashes had been shipped back to New York and she's waiting to get a death certificate. She wants to know if her godmother is going to be counted amongst the corona virus deaths. Why why is it important to you? To know is important because there are so many that are uncounted in this horror. This important for us to know that the numbers are not accurate. Because THEY CAN'T BE. I know that she probably had it yet. All the symptoms and I want to see if she was one of the uncounted and then from there. I'll make some calls to the state to the health department to Auburn e because she has to be counted angelique worded things stand now in New York City so things are finally starting to look a bit better every day. There are fewer people going to the hospital in fewer people. Dying but twenty thousand people have already died from the krona virus here You know recently governor. Cuomo announced the results of an antibody study. So we've been doing these antibody testings or course the state within New York City. You see the Bronx is high twenty seven percent and we're going to do more research to understand what's going on there. Why is the bronx higher than the other boroughs? And even in these antibody tests you see how black and Latino people have been disproportionately impacted and the fear is as the city starts to reopen people. Who are from these communities are most likely to get sick again? This is a story. People are coming out of hospital downtown people coming out of the hospital in the Bronx not so much they gotta bring trucks to put bodies so. This is something to that. That you've located yourself in the Herbert team McCall funeral home. Talk me through a little bit more about the decision to spend time in a funeral home. Yes so I started this journey really at the beginning of April in at the time the number of deaths in New York were starting to peak. I knew that hospitals were being overwhelmed. There had been these heart wrenching stories coming out of emergency rooms where people were dying while they were waiting for beds in a knew that funeral homes were likely going to be the next place to be inundated by. I'm so when I called the funeral. Director picked up the phone and she invited me to come in be a fly on the wall as they went about their work. What's the racial breakdown of families that are coming through the funeral home at this point so I asked Sheila newkirk funeral director? And she says that ninety nine percent of the families that she is serving our black And that's consistent with the neighborhood that Herbert t mccaw is located in Their funeral home that specifically caters to the African American community. Although while I was there there were some families who lost loved ones. And they're looking to send bodies back to Jamaica the Dominican Republic. And what's interesting in a place like the Bronx is actually funeral. Homes are pretty much divided across ethnic lines so there are specific funeral homes that cater to the black community and others that cater to the Latino community but with endemic. You're seeing people go to five six different funeral homes. They're getting turned away. Herbert t Mika's is actually expanding to serve some Latino families so the woman that we heard at the top of the show. How does she fit into the story so one day? I was at Mika's funeral home and I came across a woman named Denise Barclay. This is crazy. She was standing outside knocking on the door knocking on the glass and basically this funeral home that had been in operation all these weeks with shut and the lights were off and there was a sign on the door that says the office will be closed until further notice and Denise really worried her sister had died from the corona virus if you days ago and she had put down a deposit for funeral at Herbert Team mccaw. I came to them. To do my sister's viewing and cremation paid over four thousand dollars. They call me back so they couldn't do it because I had Does she died of cove it because her sister was diagnosed with cove in nineteen with the new precautions. She was being told that it would be better for her family to consider a direct cremation. When are they going to Creamy huff? They have the sign. What's GonNa Happen whereas my sister's body so while we're out there you know she's calling the funeral home on the phone. No one's answering sitting at the desk. The blinds closed but I could see her. She could own professional in after about ten minutes. Cheryl newkirk the office manager came to the door take anybody else crystal Barclay. I was opposed to get a refund. That no one's answer the phone. I this just threw me right now. So lately denise and the funeral home were able to clear things up. She got her refund so on that day. Why was funeral home closed? Uso On that day. I talked to the funeral director. Sheila newkirk and her sister Cheryl. They had just become inundated with cases and had to shut their office to catch up. You know have orders. People worked a has to be filed. The phone keeps ringing. People want information. Don't have time to sit there and talk to them and do what we have to do. So you can't take any more cases at the moment so we decided to close the office so we can at least paperwork can't get nothing done arrange for pickups and stuff you can't do nothing with don't open people coming and going. I learned while I was there. That dying actually involves a surprising amount of paperwork. You have to order the death certificate. Get to go there. Your insurance claims. It's a long process to get cremated involving various permits in. Herbert mccaw is backlogged. Sheila and Cheryl are worried about losing track of things. This stack right here is that you know the current load that you're working yes. This is the people where waiting for either to be cremated or buried. Yeah quite a large stack. Yeah how many people were in there. I think about a someone out. Twenty eight twenty eight. So I'm Julie Tell me more about Denisa sister. Yes Oh Denise told me that her sister. Krystal was admitted to the hospital in the middle of March. The doctor said she had pneumonia at first so when she first went in she was okay. You know she was okay in. Her sister had some underlying health issues. That made her more vulnerable. If she had the krona virus so she recall a couple times a day. We will see one video. She taught things were fine. At first they would video chat regularly but eventually crystal was placed on a ventilator and then a few days later denise got voice message from the doctor Hybris message it's such the niece Barclay. I'm calling regarding crystal Barclay Trying to give you a. I guess an update of her status basically. The doctor says she's been the same for the last two days. Still on the ventilator still required medicines and still trying to keep I dated In terms of that hasn't been newly changes Back I mean we can try to give you a call later on to talk to you right all right you take care and then three hours later. Her family got a call to say to crystal had died all Tom. I'm thinking she's GonNa come out of it and come home. Did Not expect it at all at all and then to have to have her kids. Hit News is all is heartbreaking heartbreaking so crystal was only forty three years old and she survived by five children. Denise has just been absolutely stunned by this loss. What's GonNa Happen Now? Her remains and what about a funeral? So that's the really tough thing. Family won't be able to have a funeral or viewing for her sister. She's going to be cremated directly for one. You don't expect to lose a family.

"So it's not just that funerals are different. A lot of the work behind the scenes his change because of the corona virus. I met up with Sheila. Sign Chris again after he picked up a body at the hospital casket before yeah cast. I followed Chris. Downstairs to the basement room to grab a casket for the women. Reproaching wooden does and this is the pro wrong. He found the right one and loaded onto the elevator incentive upstairs in their Patricia Hamilton. Who's a funeral director? Who using mccaw space is instructing him to carefully lift the body back off the stretcher and load the woman into her casket. I got you. I got coming out of this right. No in their Kerman. She's allowing the woman's daughter to come by the funeral home to say goodbye since she died of the corona virus. They carefully UNZIP the body bag so that you could see the women's head and shoulders big Russia a slow. She had been in a refrigerator for a while. Didn't really have a lot of color life to her. She's policy fifty four and pitcher. Sha Hamilton says after this funeral she's entering a self quarantine. I gave away eight cases this morning so now I'm quarantining myself because I became involved with a lot of bodies of the other day. Arrangements funeral directors are really like another kind of first responder. Are you feeling about today and this week? Well for one thing. I'm glad it's over with seems to have been more busy as this week than was last week this week. We started turning people away at one point. I was in Sheila's office. As she was plotting out her calendar for the next week they were dozens upon dozens of cremations and services. One of the very last people she was able to help was a woman named Madeleine Kendricks. And I'm originally from the Bronx. She was there to bury her godmother. Who's really more like a second mom to her. Coming back here is like coming back home. I buried my father here. I buried my grandfather. Mccall's I buried my mother with McCall's I buried my father. Look I mean because it's been in the family for a long time as bronc sites so madeleine told me that her godmother Alpha belong to the same Baptist Church for more than sixty years but as she got older it became more difficult to make it two services on Sundays then in two thousand eighteen. They went back there together. On Mother's Day do and I enjoy thing. Thank God for everything. Know Nine Ninety five when you get madeline says Alpha would have wanted a lively funeral at this church with all of her friends and family as well as a full band and acquire but right now none of that can happen when people die they need to be celebrated and there is no celebration of life right now. It's like people are just disappearing. Every life is valuable so she will be very respectfully so that day that you met Madeleine at funeral. Home is almost a month ago. What have you heard from her sense? So Alpha has been waiting for weeks to get cremated. Things were taking so long that the medical examiner's Office offered to bury her in a temporary grave. The other day I went back to the funeral home with madeline to get an update. They said that Alpha had been sent to Pennsylvania and cremated there. The reason we did that because New York is so backed up. We are waiting for people to be cremated on one hand. Madeleine's really grateful that her godmother his finally been cremated but there's no real sense of closure because those ashes have been shipped back to New York and she's waiting to get a death certificate. She wants to know if her godmother is going to be counted amongst the corona virus debts. Why why is it important to you? To know is important because there are so many that are uncounted in this horror. This important for us to know that the numbers are not accurate. Because THEY CAN'T BE. I know that she probably had it yet all the symptoms and I wanted to see if she was one of the uncounted and then from there. I'll make some calls to the state to the health department to Albany because she has to be counted unduly where things stand now in New York City so things are finally starting to look a bit better every day. There are fewer people going to the hospital and fewer people dying but twenty thousand people have already died from the krona virus here Know Recently Governor. Cuomo announced the results of an antibody study. So we've been doing. These antibody tests things all across the state within New York City. We're going to continue to report on and come back to you on so For now thanks so much for joining us on the dispatch and we'll we'll talk to you soon. Thank you so much for having me. "All right. mikey ready to get into this. I'm ready to go. I hope this is a good one all all right well. This episode story is from the Milwaukee Journal and it's from the year nineteen forty seven nineteen forty seven seems like an exciting year. This started goes called bus driver. Just kept going and found south in Florida sounds ridiculous so the whole thing takes place in Hollywood Florida and it goes a little something like this this the driver of a forty four passenger bus from the Bronx was in jail here Tuesday while authorities impounded his empty convenience when they took him into custody custody awaited word from New York as to what to do next police chief Philip Eight Thompson identified the driver as William L. Cameo Thirty we seven he gave no reason why he started on a routine run. Friday morning and wound up in Hollywood Florida more than thirteen hundred miles away married and the father of two children. Camille said he just started out in kept going. He added that the fellows at the bus company will understand. I'm sure Camille was taken into custody at Gulfstream Park racetrack where he said he went to see if he could scrape up some money. I didn't know where I was. It's headed Florida Mexico California. I could've wound up any place. He said it just happened that a hit highway one and wound up in Florida one thing I want you to you get clear. I haven't had any trouble at home. I've got a swell wife and three swell kids in New York. The Bronx County grand jury Tuesday handed up an indictment of charging Camille with Grand Larceny Detective Fred Durant prepared to leave for Florida with a warrant to bring Camille Back Camille City drove about fifteen hours. The first day spent spent the night in a tourist cabin somewhere in Virginia stopped Saturday night in Georgia tourist camp and arrived in West Palm Beach Sunday night. He said he drove to Hollywood Monday morning. Park the bus on a side Street Telegraph the bus company for money and then decided to go to the racetrack. Police arrested him when he called it the racetracks Western Union office to get if the money during the entire trip Camille said he was never questioned by police as to why he was driving an empty eighteen thousand dollars New York bus. He said several times restaurant operators asked where he was headed and each time he replied south. That's the story that's awesome. It is awesome. It's grand and larceny awesome. It's a story of the open road definitely right just mashing down highway one in a stolen New York City bus. Just doesn't get any more American than that taking the Greyhound Yeah. We'll Camille just living the life right. Billy had a journey to make thirty seven years old thirty seven right. He has three kids. Everything's reading's fine yeah apparently yeah. He clarified it right. Lake Life love or swell. He said swell swell kids to absolutely when day he gets in the bus just keeps going riding it out so he leaves. New York and then he just starts driving you decide to go off he goes and then he ends up a-. At arrests stop right at three much yeah. I think it was in Virginia like a tourist cabin or something and said Yeah and then after that he ends up in Georgia right I pretty much the same thing so he gets too nice nights out of it right and then he ends up in Palm Beach. I think it said Florida man and then he goes the Hollywood Florida to go to the racetrack got a score some cash. He tried to get cash from the bus company. That was hilarious to me right. What nerve right I got your bus. I need a ride to just go on as Rando trip. Let me get fifty yeah. Let me let me get some cash. I mean you just send it to me yeah so he was going to go what I'm assuming he's going to the race track betting on a on on a horse or dog race some kind of race but he's yeah. He thinks he's GonNa hit big and then. I don't even know where he says. He's going to go after that or what. His plan was after that because he went to go get him yet. They came with a warrant. Yeah detective went to go get him. He said he might have gone to California or Mexico. Yeah it just so happened that he wound up in Florida. Can you imagine that a guy driving a bus all the way from New York to Mexico. I don't know I'm just going Oh. I'm sure it happens but I think it happens. When it's supposed to have yeah no I mean like like in his situation just aimlessly going no I can't because it's just goes beyond me to think that the guy reported for work yeah right got his lunch box or whatever that is swell wife pack from you know kiss swell kids goodbye and everything and then he jumps on his bus that he's supposed to jump on wherever wherever its stored at or whatever yeah it's true you know to me though I think something deeper going on okay. I think there's something that we're not. That's not being discussed best in this newspaper article. He saying it's well but is it really oh you think fit. This is something like he's covering up for them yeah or for their situation somehow who does that. Yeah that's true. He's either got a screw loose rank. which is you know totally plausible totally totally plausible? It's I mean. He lives in a busy city. He is working hard all the time probably driving this bus and then he just kinda snaps yeah totally totally a believable story yeah next thing you oh you're in Mexico but he doesn't blame it on that. No that's what's amazing so then you're right. You'd think he'd have some kind of social stress. The as something deep-seated going on something at the home is happening or he just got some bad news. Maybe a relative died or maybe just got a bad bill of health or something. He's got not too long delivers. I don't know no seriously but this is desperation. Type stuff to me. That's it screams desperation. Y- yeah you don't just get up and go just like that for no reason I have to. I have to break out here. I have to you just drive and so far on top of that the guy the guy went really Far New York to Florida isn't exactly a hop skip and a jump so he didn't in a I took him essentially today's three days right because he spent two nights and then he ended up at the racetrack where the finally caught up to him right right. But how long is that drive. Have we didn't draft well. I've I've done. I've driven from Arizona to New Jersey but I've done that in three days driving faster like we do now and in a car e doing actually about seventy and then the thing though that the reason why I was able to do it in that time was because I was driving in shifts so we kind of have a lemond thing going on. You know what I it was almost like a marathon so it was somebody's driving while you're sleeping and vice versa exactly so it's kind of like an offset driving situation so he's all by himself and he's got this bus which I can imagine a bus in forty seven was not that easy to drive right yeah power steering literally to the Max. Your yeah your whole body yeah so it's a full end in ergonomics was not a thing thousands of miles doing that so in this bench seat essentially driving this giant metal brick that's brutal and and he's talking to people along the way too yeah. She seems to be striking up conversations. He talked to restaurant people yeah and and they asked him where he's going down. South Yeah and he just was here. Meeting wasn't telling a lie. He just didn't say what four where to or anything like that that right. It's true that's that's so funny that he would just say sal so just out there. I don't know where but down south so when I was reading through this because I still think the baffling thing about this is the why right me too but as I'm reading through this you know the first time I was reading through this. It really tripped me not that he stopped to spend the night et leases yeah because that means he went to sleep okay with the decision knowing what his decision was had a good night's rest and then woke up the next day still convinced that he was supposed to be doing this. Okay you bring up a really interesting point. Maybe it was premeditated right. That's that's what I was going at. most people that just do things sorta just off the cuff that are this extreme. I don't think they're getting a good night's arrests right. No I agree agree with that and that's why I buy into that premise because the night before there in the morning they wake up they're still in. They have done something to buy themselves to psych like themselves up to to completely go through with this. This is kind of a shortcoming on the journalist part right yeah. Definitely I mean didn't they didn't bother to find out what it's actually was going on. They just thought this interesting story. Here's a story. How crazy is this. This thing happened chuckle chuckle. You know what I mean but there's they're not addressing. The scary fact that a city bus was driven out of the city exactly buying employees off. He went who then tried to get. An authorized is money transfer. He's a savage right two days after the fact that it was stolen. It's funny hasn't been interacting with the people the whole time I'm like we were saying play it slick completely cool yeah and then he has prepared or it seems to me. It seems prepared response right because he knows is it. Somebody's GonNa try and blame his home situation for this whole thing and they're trying to gonNA. Wrap it around him. Fleeing something yeah. That's true so he's he's got. This box prepared answer. It's true it's completely can it wasn't my wife wasn't my kids. Don't worry about that. That's not what it is that if that's not deflecting you're you're right. He's got a massive shield. Go and he's deflect. Something is going on there right yeah. Maybe he you know. Maybe we can make store okay. You know what I mean. Maybe we can make I you. We know what we can do. We'll look at it from the modern context and see rapper hedge around a little bit better. Yeah I keep trying to go. There and I am really interested to see what you have to say about. At that time. We'll we'll get into that right. After this..

"This is the face of a man who knows he is not handing ligaments, Tom tiptoe. Again, Tom Ditto Bo. He doesn't want to treat Jimmy Butler and he wants to win right now. So for thinking about Jimmy Butler or he's thinking about himself as any sort of car, Tom typical isn't going to treat him like Ferrari that valet parking taking care of it for you while you're God, this is malicious derby. Tom typical will use you. He will put mileage on that vehicle and that's not what this dude wants. Even if his wrist is still a thing or not things, what does he bought the wind right now? Like. Like. Wedding. Secondly, is it that he is trying to win? I don't have an answer for that question, but I am stunned stunned that this is still going competivity wants to win the derby to remain the guy with a job. Yeah, that's what he wanted. I feel like to be the guy with the job, you're best chance keeping their job is to do what you're told you win trade him. If your boss wants to get rid of the guy who he knows, doesn't want to be there. Just go ahead and do what even if it is a hard put. I also feel like for him that that is an indicator that he does not trust what he could do with the roster that he has because he could just exceed expectation with the young guys look like Jimmy guys off in closing you haven't heard should ignite. Son has been on Instagram saying to pockets still alive and living in Malaysia, and I'll be honest, he's got pictures of do looks a lot like to pop, like I mean, I see what might be able to pull this off. He's, he got to puck over there with beyond say, he said he got to pot. Right there with fifty cent like I see where it is that he would be coming from all. Do we have the video about a way of him saying he had to, we have some to pods, multimedia. That's the problem that look more like rod killed than looked like the too many planes still a lot, and hey, man, let's ride out for a second and assume for a moment that to puck is in fact still alive. Let's say this is what kind of insurance provided he got over there in Malaysia because as I recall to pocket to have a lung removed and Lou, you can live with one low, but it takes to kick it. Yeah. I don't know if the Malaysian health insurance is necessarily up to snuff on that. I will commend him though when you're trying to prove that someone who's dead is alive, used super blurry photo. So it's hard to tell where the photo shop is. I guess that could be a photo or even though it's like at two. Yeah, and I'm gonna tell you this to to go over there and live a normal life after everything that happened to him. Clearly they worried about pre existing conditions over. Here in Malaysia, like maybe all of us need to go to Malaysia is like that actually to cover the Philippines, man. What are you doing. From people in closing today I've learned is a very special day. It is national taco day and national poetry day and national vodka day and national Gulf lovers day. All of which means that today is the day that we can finally officially stop. Pretending that any of this is real women star bowl. When did we start to have a Dame for everything including things that don't deserve days, small problem. You know what other kind of day falls under this heading. Mother's day. Oh, no, don't do. Don't you. All these days. This way is just an excuse for people to indulge in something. Allow them their indulgences like who has a problem with national taco day, what's bad about the free tacos and all that. But tomorrow is national body language day national gets funky day. Whoa. What is that question about national get funky day is is that from musicians or is that from people with hygiene? I didn't know that former. Not the people that tried to tell you that the odor caused cancer like their day. I just wanna national blow day this national get funky David. How about tomorrow also be..

"The Marshon thing is interesting because the guy is very skilled offensive player. He's an all star, but he's also guy who's given licking to do in the playoffs. And when I say licking, I mean, he is actually drag his tongue across their faces twice. And here I will say the veteran move that Marsh and pulls off is that the first thing he removes is the helmet? Yeah, he cracks open that Exo scale and gets all the way in on that lobster because you'll notice that he has his helmet right up and once that the staff as the ground for what you're fighting, that dude had no chance at all. Well, I mean, he had no chance in this for one major reason. One guy wanted to fight way more than the other guy did. The most important variable fighters won't to and the dude who's a little salty has way more want to than the dude who stunned last quote. Like anything that I win bonus. Said Stephen Adams when informed he was voted the toughest player in the NBA by NBA GM's in that poll that was released. Bo. I like to take a look at this man's resume of said, toughness, please, and look, man. He seems to be like totally impervious. Yeah, it is that it's really, that's where you notice that there's the notice it way before that we notice it before the b keeps happening. Yeah, but see those are like these aren't even Desa -sarily like the testaments to the toughness of him is do just like. Like them in the face, right? Like zebra, all this Schmidt of Vince Carter has elbowed him in the face and he never blames invisible right here. It just keeps moving. There's Jae Crowder giving Dale right there, and they need just keeps moving by. If you're going to be the guy, Stephen Adams is, I guess you got to be willing to just keep moving, and that's who he is. He is somebody who I think must qualify. Right? Not just as the toughest NBA player, but for some reason, the NBA flair that all of those dudes want to hit. Yes, like there is something to being stoic but also something to being the guy who's always there. Yeah, some stuff is going down. I would also say all likely urge boggles a fairly dirty player himself from time to time. You wanted to be into dude, get hit into NC all the time when you out here doing things, we fear gay people. So at once he may be the toughest guy, Lee is also an argument that he is among the dirtiest accept. It seems that the dirty things that are done to him are on another level. Yes. That said he does have a gold tooth like even go to Adams. Apparently Tong in. Apparently they do that down there. I had no idea to has so much in common Atlanta, Tonga is in the Pacific. He is a Pacific islander that I just learned that Stephen Adams and I may technically qualify as Pacific islanders. So basically what you're saying is you do research for your job. You guys are like hearing about my fantasy team, but I would just remind everyone to set your lineups. There is a game tonight. Get your line of do actually have Jillian element on my team really nettle men and Josh Gordon. I stockpiled problematic, patriots receivers. Thank you. That's helpful. Helpful. Tip a number. Today's number is zero. That's how many regular season games Jimmy Butler plans to miss while demanding trade out of Minnesota, but was the right play by Jimmy Butler play into regular season games. We don't care what he says right now if you're not there right now, why do I think you're gonna show up after camp, like whatever problems you think would come from you being there right now, what do you think problems are going to be there? If you're there for the regular season, he's not going to be there. I'm just amazed that dip has managed to go this long without doing what he has to do, right..

"I also have one just in case you were wondering. I quote. Right now he's playing better than any quarterback has ever played. He's an MVP quarterback. Said, Jaguars coach, Doug Marrone about chiefs quarterback, Patrick Mahomes whose team will be facing on Sunday. If you were Blake Bortles, how would you feel hearing all it does is Blake Bortles Mike up last game. And apparently he'd be talking a lot of noise in a way that like spicier than I showed us eat a name on a bag baby who you are now, if you're Blake Bortles and you hear this, if you're Bortles, you know, you're not played as well as the students right that you must be aware. The factor not play that maybe you look at it and say, you offense, and that would be killing the two. I don't know. I am surprised. And I'm curious what you think about this. You don't really hear coaches go this far in talking about an opposing player. I wonder if he's trying to like light fire under his defense to let them know the magnitude of what's out there. I think there is some amount of genuine wonderment because Mahomes is this absurd, but I think it's also a lot of fluffing and ruffling. He is fluffing Mahomes because I think he's trying to do some up. Instill some sort of false confidence. Bella check likes to do that sometimes and press conferences just over complement the other team, what the ruffling he's not just trying to light a fire under Blake Bortles. He's trying to light a fire under those defensive backs defense whom he knows. Listen to stuff that is said and Jalen. Ramsey of course, would be, I think the one recipient for said flame. No, this is a fascinating magic. When you think about Jaguars, Steve is probably the best defense that's into and we talk about Jalen Ramsey and his good as he is playing quarter. Yes, he is a lot of dude, you gotta check like there is no one guy that you can really focus on the Ramsey argument against growth was if you put a corner autumn shuts down, they gotta tied in who does similar type stuff and Travis Kelsey, but you can't really put a quarter on him because somebody's gotta do tyreek hill somebody's gotta deal with Kareem hunt. I really looking forward to this, yes, entire kill's already out here saying Jalen Ramsey amount afraid of you. And I think he has an argument as good as Jalen Ramsey really fast. Next quote is celebration unnecessary. So I just let them know. Boston Bruins, star, Brad, Marchand about the Justice. He lay it on LARs Eller after Alor celebrated scoring the goal that put his team, seven win the season opener. Let's watch the celebration. See, Marsh actions were justified. That's. All right. Here we go. That's that's the Eller guy right there. He scores because a little little fist pump action. I guess this is coming off the Stanley Cup, you know, dry at any went into the same thing in front of the Bruins in way four way for way for. There merited there it is. Yeah, we got a better angle bad because this is the kind of violence that we're allowed to. You know, just act like it's okay. I do have to say the celebration in front of the bench probably shouldn't have done that. Like, I think you get to. You know, you get to enjoy yourself what you've done. He did go over there and put it up into grills. I don't know what he thought the end result from that was going to be well..

"I've said this before on this show, this is the worst kept secret in the league that Scott Perry, the the Knicks was an executive with the SuperSonics when they drafted k. d. katie's manager, rich climate is a lifelong Knicks fan. All of these things point to a guy wanting to flip a switch that changes the narrative on him on franchisee going to end the Nixon, by the way, the Knicks would be a top five team in the east. If he were to show up, it's just a fact. Yeah, the only thing that we change the narrative, but also part of change that narrative is going for a team that was winning championships to play for the Knicks. That is as significant one. Now also keep this in mind that Chris Haines was saying that he sees a similar allure than. Going to the Lakers. There was a similar award going to the Knicks for Kevin Durant, and I want to know what the hell allure means, because apparently I have a misunderstanding of what this is like. Yeah, the Lakers have been sorry recently next miss, sorry for like twenty years. Oh, you're in New York. Take a whiff. The allure is all around us. It's all over me. I am going to be so insufferable. If we get Kevin Durant, the Cologne. It will be a win contingent on his decision, which we, I think, you know. But yeah, man, they're going to be good. And I think for Zingo back, wait till he gets his first taste in New York media. He ain't Bill. Gerner Bill burners. Next name levian Bill Bill plants, plaque Tober twenty eighth against the Browns steel off the line as Marcus Gilbert seems excited, but also a little reserved. Here we go. I wish we haven't back today. Why is he taking so long? Yeah. Why wouldn't you come back here be around the guys in the eye. We're all waiting for him. Did be dead blow do since guys like Marcus Gilbert, holding a grudge against Bill. Why don't he want me men that is exactly what's happening here. They want to know that they're co worker who they know in their heart of hearts is so much more valuable than they are. They just want to know that he thinks of them that he'll look them in the eye that they will address them as something at least pretending to be equals. They know that when Levy on bell comes back, they're going to be a way better team. They just want to feel better about themselves in the prospect hill address them when he gets back there. If they're hanging out during the bye week because he's going to clock in for that week where there is no work right like that is going to happen. Now. Other guys that were just like, I think about until it gets here, which is probably the best approach they could have, but I'll never forget this man Ramon foster those Catholic Ramon fosters the one that's into we're the ones that made this happen for him right talking about the offense of line. We're the ones who did that fellas what y'all do for Jay. Conor, right? Because it seems that everybody's looked around and realize, you know what? Maybe this levian bell guy matters a whole lot in anybody that thinks there's lingering beef. No, no, no, no. They go, come Figel, scream it out and it is going to be, let's go get these. Yes. And do you think the offensive line just rewatching game one on guard? Men, look what we can do that unified real. We'll do. We do. We do just fine without you very good. He's going to get there now. It will be interesting. Now I want to know more about what exactly Levy on Bill told him prior to make everybody feel that they're owed some measure of expiration because it does seem that he told us media when he was coming back and didn't let anybody on the team don't know any of it. But if you're at home and then you see his like on the jet ski in Miami rally, feeling like a great teammate at that point. You also might just the a hater. "It did bow and I am a New Yorker. I grew up going to the stadium ninety nine three. Oh four Yankees, Red Sox with my narcotic, and I'm back on the narcotic because of these sorts of things you can queue up. The home runs the dinger's that we saw last night that made me a fan again. This. Wow, that's far that's Aaron. Judge the second fastest exit velocity. Since we track such things for home runs in the postseason Three three at one at time one time. and here we go. We're the fastest home run ever recorded stack cast era by one win Carlos. Wow, so long ball after more than that, like judge is back in the lineup, Stanford his back in the line of they are a different team in both of those guys are healthy. I am in on this revelry. I'm in on the Yankees being a real contender. So here's my thing about this. I wouldn't care what team you tried it out there at that time, the cardinals won the World Series. The eighty four or eighty six wins, death let's call, but it is baseball's. Postseason is a random championship generator right last year. The made it to the playoffs. They beat Cleveland in the wildcard route. Cleveland was eleven games better than them in the regular season this year. By the way, these are a one hundred win team. It just happened one hundred eight. So yeah, anybody it seems can win any baseball postseason the only thing is bad. Hey, Yankees on gas here is something that you want to have in the postseason is a budget dudes who throw gasket. We look at somebody's. Stowing gas, or is it too late to see that game? Here we look at this gas, the slowest amount of gas. They got was ninety six miles an hour last night, and the Yankees had been beating previously in the playoffs teams with bullpens with big big arms. And now they got the bats, they got the arms. This is the fourth time they're going to beat the Red Sox playoff history I have in on this. I am. I'm back on the drug. I was this. Okay. We virtual reality augmented reality something like that because I know who that is pitching right there. That's Chapman, right? A believe. Otherwise, man, I understand the charter. We don't put names on the back of the jersey hell about supposed to know. People are not like other teams Beaumont Jones. Games, you should kill one. You don't know. I don't, but here's a new name. Kevin Durant according to Yahoo is Kris Haines, the New York Knicks have quote, a very good shot at luring Kevin Durant away from the bay area and quote the Knicks fan lurking inside of me, take this a real sign that the pipe dream of Katie to the Knicks actually happen. Here's the thing. I don't think it's a pipe dream, bright. Like we've heard this enough from enough people that we trust and we've been hearing it now since July that this is what the move is going to be at the end of the season. Just like we heard around the all star break the last season with the thunder that he might wind up going to the warriors LeBron by the way, somehow manages to keep these secrets Kevin Durant. We all know his business at every turn on this. No, I think there's a real possibility that he winds up coming to play for the Knicks. Yes. And the difference between LeBron k D's not to be underestimated you bring it up if Kev. In Durant, held his version of the decision this summer next summer, read all kind of guests very strongly at the outcome, and I think we'd be right..

"No, my God. Yes, I am don't eat ally. Are you ready for Thursday night football tonight? Yes, I could not be more excited for patriots as right. I was gonna say, there is no need to live, but you're not live. Every time we come into work on Thursday should expect that you will ask me if I'm excited because the answer is, yes, one hundred million percents more excited for football, football, football, football lights don't power themselves not. And in fact, we have a name, the patriots, Jillian. Edmund will make his season debut tonight against the colts which would Mark the first time since November twenty sixteen that he and gronk play together will return make the patriots a dominant offense again. Okay. So part of the problem of the pages have had with their offense is teams are double covering rob gronkowski and thereby they have no real downfield threat. Now maybe they change. Because you have Josh Gordon. But if what you need is someone else threatening to get things easier for grump. Jillian element is not the guy to do this over the last five seasons. The dude has two hundred and thirty catches under ten yards. Writing moves the change a little bit. We know his name because he plays on the team that's on television a lot, and the office will be better. But it's hard for me to think that he would make the offense dominant Etel men to your point is more of a to use fantasy lingo. He's more of a PR threat. Here's a guy who will get you one hundred catches, but you're right. I looked it up earlier. He has twenty four touchdowns over eight seasons with the pats, a break the Bank that is all that he has. And so the typically he's not going to be a monster, but the good news for the patriots and tonight is that Andrew luck and the colts are not really a threat to beat this team. I don't think because the patriots tend to beat. Look, look tends to be his worst self against Bill bell check worse than any other coach. So I don't know through not worry now was very good last week. In a game that they found a way to lose. But he was very good, but the thing to be with the patriots as we watch them, it matters. Yes. Whether or not they win these games, right? Every game matters. They're only so many of them, but in the way that we watched him and we evaluate them, we're looking at this is the time of year when the patriots start figuring out what it is that they're going to do and where it goes forward will we don't know is just how good can this offense be? Is there a ceiling on where this offense is because they do not have dominant defense. So what element back that's like the last excuse right. And you say we'll be this, we got that. All right. You got your guy bag. Did you say you so important to your offense? Now? What are you going to look like when you had him? Right. And if you're a patriots fan, Bola me ask you this, Josh Gordon is still on this team. He played last week. Is that a guy that people should be looking for any sort of optimism? There's no reason just down the first week, and I love the way that you looked at me and said, if you're a patriots fan, let me ask you because everybody sees and assumes that's patriots. This is written all over me baby patriots. All right. Next name, the Yankees. Yankees crust at the legs last night's last night's wildcard game and are headed to face the Red Sox on Friday night of paper, Red Sox, clearly better, but did the power New York show last night convince you they have shot to being bossed..
