"Head coach loses his mind right now don't do that. Don't do that. Like JR Smith and Patrick Beverly. Patrick Beverly after a play in win. Yeah. That was about, I'll call it this. Eric Musk, more Patrick Beverly. Closer to Patrick Beverly in terms of that celebration. Maybe just maybe one way to actually get there. Don't do that. We'll start dancing. I was early on. What are you doing? But there were people that saw me. I saw it. I saw it yesterday. Yeah. Maybe keep your shirt on next time. I mean, the guy was in the moment. I'm always for being in a moment. But you have a moment. I told him to put your shirt back on him, 'cause you look like a fool. I'm with you though, man. I love the way this tournament is shaped out, as I said, two 5s, a 6 and 9, two, threes or four in the two left. So and there's some really cool stats we'll get into later on is more we talk about determine how I think this is going to play out by the scenes and the teams that are left, but Florida, Florida Atlantic, man, but like you said before, you know, all the transfer kids, transfer portal, bringing some seniors right now, there are 51% from the field. They're shooting 38 37% from three in this game four of 11. They play, what I love about watching them play, they play very controlled. They don't play out of their mind. And when we came on air after the first Thursday Friday and our shows here on Saturday, I said, the team that are winning are the teams that are just going to be themselves. They don't try to be anything that they're not. I watched Miami and Alabama last night, and I saw a team in Alabama. They've never played like that all year long. In the commentators started to pick up on it. They're like, yeah, it's just, it's jump shot and done. It's one and done. They jump right down. Wasn't getting the ball inside, wasn't dribble penetration. No pick and roll, no movement. They were trying to say, okay, we hit threes all year long. So let's just start jacking threes and it just didn't pan out for him. Yeah, I mean, that's a microphone. So who they are? Bigger in college basketball. Yeah, of course. Everybody loves settling for 37% from three, 35% for three. Man, go to the rim. It's honestly quite honestly, even though it can't just stay in the marquise Noel has taken some bombs. He was trying to put Michigan state away with the sleeper. At the end of the game taking a logo threes, first of all, and then quick aside from my side, the logos two dog on big now, all right? Yeah. Three. I'm sitting there watching guys hitting the thing from the S and the March Madness and we're talking about strawberry the other night, right? And they're like, he's shooting it from the yes. But it's not. It's like four or 5 step one. This is not as impressive as we're trying to make it out to be. He's a good shot. Good congratulations. You made it. But what I love about this Kansas state team is, I don't know if you can relate to this. But there are guys, especially in basketball, you can tell where a guy is from by his style of play. How he plays. By how he plays. Now you can't really do that in football, not so much as you can have a guy who's rough and tumble from New York. You have guys roughly told him from Alabama. You don't know where he's from until he takes his helmet off starts talking. But there was no doubt in my mind that Marquis Noel was from New York City. There's no doubt he was from New York City. When you saw him play for the first time and watching him play, I love the way he gets downhill, goes to the room. It is a style of basketball, and I personally hold near and dear to my heart because that's the style of basketball I grew up playing, okay? Go to the room. You kick out for a three when you need it. Not the idea. It just settling for threes. We playing new for this Steph Curry. But that's why I love that stuff. Johnson, who we were talking about Brandon Miller is being a negative story. Kate Johnson, I was watching the game December 2020 when he just dropped on the court. Nobody knew what happened to him. His heart just stopped, he was just down in the COVID. Nobody knew what it was. And he was like, you didn't know if you were ever going to see him play again, much less play at a high level. Much less, you know, playing now he's in the elite 8, turned down a $5 million insurance policy to bet on the shelf and say, yo, I'm going to play pro basketball. I don't need you 5 million. I'll go make 25 million down the line. So I mean, you want to talk about Brandon Miller as a field bad story. Yeah. This is about as feel good story as you can get. Well, this team period, man. Kansas state, this wildcat team, you can think about it in the preseason. They were picked to finish dad last in the big 12. They were first year coach. They ended up playing really well in the season. They beat Kansas and beat some teams some really tough teams had a tough schedule and want some big games and you're seeing it on display right now. Now I do believe they need to tighten up their defense and you don't want to give up 42 44 possible points to afford Atlantic and one half. I mean, they're on pace for 84 points. That's not a recipe for victory, but we've seen them score 93 96 and went in overtime against Enzo. My guy izzo and Michigan state the other night though, but back to Noelle, Harlem, number one, what was so cool about that is you saw New Yorkers come out and support him like support that kid like, did you see cameras? Yeah, but that's what's up though, but still there was passage there was cash from New York that wasn't there. The fact that there's cats from New York from Brooklyn, Bronx Harlem to burrows that came through man and supported him. And then he goes out and has a record breaking NCAA tournament game as far as this is concerned. And it's just you talk about like you said, the feel good story. I feel good story just for Kansas state themselves. It's not just one player, man. It's just this is just a really good team, Johnson, all those guys. Noelle leading away with 15 points right here going into the half man. But yeah, I like this game to stay team, but they're down right now so they better get it together. You don't want, like I said, I don't think you want Florida Atlantic scoring 80 plus points. I guess first one to 75 in this one looks like it's gonna win man, but all these teams left have great stories. It's been a great tournament. I'm not really big into tournaments down. Tournaments, the tournament has been great. You know who's saying it's down though? Everybody that's got wrecked brackets. Those a lot of people say, oh, I have breakfast right to begin with. But if you just everybody, you know, some of us hurt. I mean, you know. No, no, no, no, no. What you're trying to do right now is take credit for being the person who's least wrong. You know that, right? You're not right. I was playing at least wrong. You're not right. Okay. You don't have a perfect bracket. Nobody. No, not a perfect bracket, but I still have two final four teams. Right, so exactly. Congratulations. You got 50% right. The final four, yeah. So you're celebrating being

"Films, more independent films. We talked about this film, and we had the filmmaker on the show last week. Let's play a little clip from Scarborough. You know Sylvie moms? I can't talk to you because you have a female in your house. Will you tell your mom at least I have home. Okay. See you see you. That's a little bit of Scarborough, based on a novel by Scarborough native Catherine Hernandez, who also wrote the screenplay. So ready in like, What Got you excited about this film? What do you think This movie was obviously going to have an effect on me? Because I'm from Scarborough, like I've spent a lot of time in the neighborhoods that's depicted in the film. And so you know, the places these people these moments, they all just feel so familiar to me and to see them on the big screen. That was that was huge, right for all the Reasons that everyone points out when they talk about why representation is important. Like you know, it's this experience right, seeing yourself or seeing your community represented in the way And you know, when I was watching this movie, you know, it made me think like, like, Where's our do The right thing, you know, like, Where's Where's Canadian cinemas like answer to these, like New York stories that are set in Brooklyn, the Bronx Harlem, right, because that's what I was seeing when I was watching Scarborough like this is one of the first times where we've seen anything so close to that, because you know, like we don't typically Canadian cinema. The whole industry doesn't typically go into these underprivileged neighborhoods to tell those stories, and it's like it's largely benefited privileged filmmakers who tend to make movies at their cottage. If you ever wonder why so many Canadian movies are made. In the woods is because all the filmmakers have family cottages that they go to and shoot. People from Scarborough never get their shots until now, and that's why this is so huge for me. I want to close off this way, and I know it's a big question for the last like minute or two of this panel. But, you know, I think I was talking to the director of dunes any They'll know of the other day about this is that the pandemic broad, pretty transformational shift in how we watch films. Maybe not for film critics, but for the average person who maybe doesn't even have, you know access to like a multiplex in their hometown. Streaming has become central to our viewing experience of how we think about films. Not just watch them, Terry. In light of all this do we still need film festivals like tiffs? Yes, yes, yes, a hard yes. In fact, I think that it might actually make film festivals be more important and have more of an impact because There has been a bit of a democracy as you mentioned, Tom, you know, places that don't have a multiplex who were never going to see something like you know, Scarborough necessarily, You know, in Gander, Newfoundland, or, you know, White Rock, British Columbia. I mean and and and they want to. I mean, this might be an opportunity to turn international film Festival is a very successful arm called the film circuit. And they take movies on a film circuit across Canada that would normally go to places in Canada that don't have a model blocks, and maybe they're going to be able to do that. Maybe tiff will have their own streaming platform, which they do through the tiff Bell lightbox. I mean, there is a democracy that has happened. Um, for our ability to see movies, even if we live in smaller areas and film festivals are a conduit to that democracy. So I think that Yeah, they are as important, possibly more important, because like you said, you remember being a kid listening to what was coming out of tiff and what you would have access to now That access is really possible impossibly, between earlier than 8 to 12, months ready and last word to you now, more than ever. Some festival are important for two reasons. One is, you know, in the world of Street Aiming when everything is online. You need some kind of curatorial presence, you know, to select some special movies for you. And also I mean, I'm not the one to fight the tide against streaming. I think the democratization of access is beautiful, but I think that you need you know, as theaters get more limited. There's a and you're losing the event, Fullness of theaters and know all theaters. They only make comic book movies, the events you need a presence like a film festival to make events out of adult dramas and, indeed dramas and stuff like that. So that's why I think the film festival just give you give you those red carpet or those special, you know, stayed Moments for these films that deserve that kind of attention. I'm glad we talked about 16 17 minutes to talk about the films and I gave you guys 30 seconds each to tell me whether we need film festivals at all. By the way, it's really Perfectly generous something thanks to the both of you are special Tiff edition of the Q Screen panel. My guests were entertainment reporter.

"Some of because i'm old on hanging around old people and they are on boards and they say you'd be good at this. I didn't really know what board did would admit now that i'm going to lie. I can sort of semi that. It's definitely one of the for most businesses the biggest form of sponsorship. You get because as much as mentor ship in execution good with the people who are sort of guiding the people were in charge understand the entire. I think operation process the better. It is for the people who are doing work in the more diverse of angle you get and so like at boss is a sports school like it was one my best friends on the board. We were having this discussion around college visits and so bosses at school in hell's kitchen. Most the kids come from the bronx harlem who could attend changing a little bit. How who gets into the schools definitely open enrollment. it's not based on light higher test scores. They don't pick who they get into the school. It's just kind of an open free for all on the terms of kids in school so it's not built on kids who are automatically going to harvard. Who have like family history and like education and college background and so one of the things that they promoted. I think for good reasons. They wanna make sure that kids have an understanding we're colleges they go on college tours and so the college tours were happening around junior year and i said no. It's too late and my friend. Marie works for us and why her son at the saints are sons were in college. Were in high school in around junior exerting time and she was like no understand like nuts on this The biggest time of his life. He's busy colleges and it's really important. It's it's very light. It's shaping they are and i was like. Yeah but your son is hard about collared. Since he was like five years old these kids like none of their family is going or has gone to college and so this is a new concept like near expecting them to go work. Some of these kids. They're family is like wondering why they're finishing high school. I literally wondering why they're finishing high school when they could go work like food on the table like it's a different conversation. Can we please take them freshman year even just to win college campus. Like is the idea of colleges their brains before they're taking it as act before they're taking a prep test like can we do that. And what's funny as she saw that she was like. Oh and because this was happening at the board level this was well before the teachers had to choose where they were spending money or where they were scheduling time and so being offering a more diversity of voice like at school like that. I think is powerful. But there's quite a bit of diversity on that board. When i got to know there wasn't that much of diversity of thought on the board. It was interesting because when it first came up like. Are you inviting you on the board. Because i'm black. Well that's helpful. And i was like oh and i was like well. Are you inviting me on the board. Because i'm right because i'm creative. And they were like yeah like. There's a design company and we don't have creative people on board. There's a misstep. And i was like oh and then later on some i was like scary enough young. I was like oh haven't been young while The youngest person on the board again being able to have diverse levels of thought at a board level where it's really only about sponsorship really about giving direction to the real leaders and responsible folks who run something dana able to give them a sounding board and holding them to task on getting the most out of your people in by the most are just even listening. Can you hear their voices when boards started diversify our think and i mean say is true like me like i have a whole thing about like. I love all my friends. Were denied like experts at every company. But you would need them so much if the c. suite was diverse by dude. Have other problems to fix. Because then those folks will make sure that there was a diverse hiring. Maybe not all the time. But there'd be more folks this sort of leg. Let's get after i'm diversity in bigger ways and i think to me the board level so that helps us in push along. I think those movements. So i'm very very happy that folks tabby the shoulder one. I didn't look like the average person. I also went in san to act like the normal person and i think they were actually quite excited that i wouldn't be so i was blessed. Divide end up in conversations that they wanted me there as opposed to. They don't like their hands retired about happy. So i mentioned before. We started recording that i had done my research. I read through a lot of articles that you had written up on the good things. Blogging they're also syndicated on medium. No no i actually wanna talk about that. What does writing do for you as a designer riding is probably in this place. Until i i dunno background introversion of like i stumbled across my words like i'm having a conversation. I'm one of those people goes. Oh i wish. I thought about them. We're talking 'cause. I can't think on my feet like that. And so being able to read a skill delight. My sister made sure why she saw that. I had a little bit of a thomas. This is thirteen years older than me so she saw had a little talent. Made sure like my teachers. Know me to right board more when i was in high school in that just became a way for me to almost in a journal. Way sort of right down with my thoughts were when i knew i couldn't finish them in other ways. I really didn't feel comfortable talking to other people. And also i think allowed me to when you get old and have kids you sorta well. Your kids aren't always listening to aren't sure denies. Listen to my parents or my elders but if you write it down and leave it. So that when they're ready to take any of the information it's there for dark so for me to write it down like this and people bring up some of those medium post like all the time writing it. It's for like two thousand sixteen and might have just copy and pasted from tumbler. Post from two thousand twelve. But it's more black my journal. This was kinda going on a thought that popped up my head that i may have wanted. Someone asked a question that i wanted to answer for that person but also wanted to answer for life multiple people so being able to write to me and it's funny because people often thought like oh you lay right the same way you talk. It's like well that should be the same way with everybody. Thank so like. I don't use complete sentences in. I'll stop in the middle of a sentence just going to the next thing because it's really just in my kids hate like a reading delayed. You have no focus. 'cause i took like real writing classes online. You're smarter than me. Because i can send you to a school that you could be smarter than but it's sort of been unfiltered.

"I'm just saying it's just a coincidence that you know the majority had been that you know but anyway Big up to you know. I mean big. Big shout out to Everybody does hip hop. And there's definitely you know feeling you know that you know you know the death of you know of these brothers in You know ecstasy or whatever and You know that's That's ecstasy doom. Foundational hip hop of doom is really an off shot of what ecstasy and what other cats in bronx harlem and Was doing you know You know and as as ecstasy was shot of that but this is ecstasy was doing was actually actually but they you know if if that was foundational in the sense of what people heard and they can play on cassette or whatever and the and the stuff that they were saying i mean they had an impact. You no doubt you know. Experienced people like me who have a soul. You know those records. I can still listen to those records people. I remember when i to live in the past. Energy doesn't mean energy doesn't die your prescription chain. I definitely agree with that. I mean an adult brecher. There's a work you don't wanna mean like i for some reason. And that's a whole other companies for another day. I'll be very brief. Some of the people act like you know there's an expiration date on don't music especially black music especially black american music and i never you know like that vibe. At one of the why have brought up dejoy with and the younger casserly talent creator and all of them could understand like any other type of catholic. Well you know awful and the like these. Young cats were thrilled to see a older. Do acknowledge him and doing anything. And who was still perform. Continuation like Joint with ecstasy Besides wonderfully wanted more more than the most wanted more distinct voices and hip hop period. You'll grown like go like that like ours like the more big boom invoices hip hop. That's just how i am. Or whatever. And i think developing that you know he always had that but you know like if you go somewhere and you know you see somebody with joy to rhyming or whatever when they hear join like. Houdini always had that. You know what i'm saying like. They always had that with you. Know people you know. Do the rap part of the parts or whatever and offer that alone. That's big impact. Besides being natural you know early hip hop foundation cata whatever especially in terms of like white one was making that turn from being more underground to you. Know more mainstream because it's still like super super mainstream but you know if you've listened to any movie called black radiocarbon radio you're going to hear who d- old who channel whatever right up to this day or you're going to hear the joint with houdini that have been sampled like you mentioned friends. Friends is literally one. The most sampled hip joins out drums from that. You know i love. Speaking of dum dum sampled on the food. Our i've been listening joke song. Don't be that don't be on be or hip hop and my best friends robbed them jones. As a child they actual not necessarily duplicated they sampled it and just added something on top of it. I'm like now. I know that sounds. I heard that sound as a child. You know what. I mean so like you have dad type of thing that goes over. There's always some kind of continuation wisdom so when you see you know like ecstasy who speaking the older cousin little token about early to mid fifties. The that brother transitioned at fifty six. So you look that way. Where like you might have been a little kid hanging with the older person It'd be like yo. They so cool and they're lake and they were hip hop kept when i was reading articles about when he passed away. Who were talking. You know about joy or you know is kind of funny seeing certainly abc's talking about things especially during the eighties period. Where i saw was talking about you know i wanted to. I wanted to def jam tour. And i was crazy nervous or whatever you know the fresh in ecstasy where you know giving me tip determine how to do stuff or whatever while performing live you know what i mean you know. Have to talk about you. Know homeboy being the impact. And stuff like that. It's always a continuation. I think that's something that we should always appreciate win. Some of these folks pass and Speaking of because unfortunately we had we had like almost like i m of the information over the past week to week and a half different recipes and prayers condolences more family friends and fans of not just Duman ecstasy but also of after four could known as aka shopper. Do oh oh during would he transmitted sixty five and whatnot and own levels or whatever like. I'm definitely one of those folks of new homeboy of doing his join with breaking or whatever like album. I'm a little younger. So i caught onto the movie. Steve's or whatever later on but he was like a ton of stuff besides doing choreography for people later on and whatnot like You know he did his thing chicago. The latest got you know west coastal or whatever and soul train. Back in the day people can actually see clem soul train or whatever by a youtube. I didn't know that he was like on broadway for a minute. Like he with the bette. Midler dancing zilly's yet. And whatever whatever he toward madonna as a primary dancer during the who's that girl talk when madonna data. He did that he did. Remember those with light ritchie luther vandross.
