"brodie l." Discussed on The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz

"Back and forth this weekend between merkich and kendrick perkins kendrick perkins exists at this point to say things on espn and kendrick perkins job. It is the job. They signed into a big extension. Espn didn't want anything to what's happening here. But kendrick perkins says things on television. He is not stu gods he. Just he's not mean he just gets on there and he says things says things that enraged people and he called merkich the worst offender in the league which called him. You know saying of him. If he were in the league today he would be a mascot because the game did sort of evolve pass perks style of play being the square in the middle of the post frank. The tank is still around. He's still around. But kendrick perkins at this. Point is not someone who could have guarded people on the perimeter argument ender in the battle with nurkic in which he just posted a video of kobe. Bryant saying perk is the best post defender in the league and it was kobe bryant saying in an interview and so just one of those things. Kobe was saying to be nice. Because didn't know kobe doesn't do that. It was not to be nice. That's right. Kobe did not do that. And so that was a funny back and forth. We will get back to some of the funnier things that happened this weekend. In the second but one of the things that was not funny howard. Brian is here to talk to us about. I thought it was the most interesting story of the weekend because of the variables involved and there were many of them. But i believe Rob parker howard and thank you for joining us. Wrote this for deadspin before asaka gave voice to the mental frailties and the mental illness stuff. But this is what he wrote and it is indicative of a lot of people were thinking at the time. Naomi osaka is wrong. Her boycott of the media at the french open is misguided worse. It's downright unprofessional. Tennis superstars seriously dealing with mental health issue as she announced on social media before the tournament she should have bowed out gracefully from the event taken time for herself fans would have been disappointed but understood but to claim she can do everything else but just can't talk to the media is bogus bravo to the four grand slam tournaments who issue though soccer both a fine and a stern warning for her behavior. The grand slam tournaments also said if she continued to not talk to the media she could be subject to escalating punishment including disqualification. And he goes on here. Many fans will side with osaka issued. A warning i'm sorry. So he goes on here and the attack on the media says it's so wrong and dumb. The media's there for fans most media members are just trying to job. It's not about us. It's never been when you blow up the media you're telling fans they don't matter and don't count media members get paid whether they talked to the star players or not what can change the people who run the events understand. Is that media outlets will stop covering events if they can't get access to the stars in ball. You read good howard bryant with us now i should. You should read howard bryant instead of listening to me reading. Good howard your thoughts there. What before we get to the larger conversation. Yeah on what rob said yes. Yeah i could not. I mean i understand what rob's coming from but that take was a little too hot for me A little too warm of simply. Because i don't feel like she should have bowed out gracefully Bitch maybe should have determined whether or not she was fit to play. I think she determined that she was fit to play. But i think that the real issue when i said During this weekend. As but i felt like she did not handle this. Well i think it was simply in terms of tactics. I think that you have to go to the tournament and you have to at least give the tournament the opportunity to do their ridiculous overreach that they ended up doing to you so at least you would have been on the the you would have had the tactical advantage by saying. I went to the tournament. I talk to the tournament before this thing even began and they pretty much told me to shut up and play if that were the case then. I think that this would have been a very very different story. But i think that one of the big issues here was how you do this. I think that when you immediately go public the minute she went public now. Everybody's back is up and now they're thinking okay. You're trying to tell us what to do. Or we're going to show you who's boss and i think that i mean it Robin i or cool and everything. But i gotta say bravo to to the tournament for having four grand slams gang up on her at once come on. That's that that was that was so ridiculously excessive. A you talk about proportionality. That was a disproportionate response to what was happening. How about at this time in america at the end of mental health illness month with the history that tennis has that is interesting and complicated. Howard where these conversations about gender and sexuality women's tennis was having it before the rest of the country. Poor sports. Billie jean king is even saying you have to be professional in this instance. But she's from another time and to hear a pioneer of that sort. Say you gotta be professional in that instance. When a young person is talking about mental illness. I thought that juxtaposition was interesting. Yeah it is..

"A radio quality wrestling talk anchored by rosenberg's clear professionalism with the medium history with wrestling and logical criteria of what he's looking for in the art form while he waters the down on screen for wwe his persona still comes across as authentic and contrast nicely with the in ring legends and pretty communication school. Grads they surround him with another shot. Okay you know what. I'm sorry. That part actually wasn't is either. I didn't realize even said that so it was nice about. Yeah chuck. I do not cosign that part. That was rude. Chuck's boadcaster by the way. But keep going as we saw this year with pat mcafee. There's a higher goal for podcasts personalities. In the wgn simply talk a talking head while rosenberg may not have mcafee size. Here's to hoping. His mouth carries him to a deeper role in the company. One day soon. And wow is that was that touching. That was well said beautifully in jake chambers on the money with this thank you just just did not miss. I know a series though. I guess i i am such a baby about taking criticism and i you guys know when it comes to wrestling. I take my share so to just randomly that popped up in my google alerts. My dad's senate to me. Actually and i was like oh wait. Someone included me in this. Any me is number one. And he gave the what i loved about. It was that he gave the podcast. It's props because i am proud of how objective we've stayed as a podcast. Everyone knows it's not easy to be living a dream where you're working for the company but you also want to be critical the product and i'm damn proud of what we do on this show and i you know what and i respect the wwe continuing to have me work in spite of the fact that we keep it real on the show you know. I'm grateful and i feel that the i hope at least that our audience still appreciates that we shoot. You know you know what it is condition baby course so anyway shots to jake. Shout to everyone who emailed us. Rosenberg beats at g. Mail dot com. We did so much. Didn't even get to roast. How bad chris. Jericho was on commentary. Or how awful snoop dogg was in the ring snoop dogg. I don't think you'll get another chance. Jericho cole give you another crack at it next week. I'm sure no snoop joe by the way snoop man every check. The stupa need have re check. Because i do feel a little bit of a way for how the wwe's treated snoop over the years with him getting a job at cbs. Which is nine thousand tv job. He does for fun and that being the reason he just rolls up on a w i. It felt a little iffy to me. Call me a homer on this one. But i was like damn really snoop say this about the soup splash if you could call it that. This new splash is not a thing. I refuse to let the snoop splash become a thing because that was re pug is two lessons. There's less than that. Everyone can take away for that moment. Number one trust the pros. Cody laid that man right where he needs to be pursued to execute that maneuver soups and bring them closer to believe in yourself because sloop said bring him closer over shot it and landed. Where cody had that. Man's body in the first time and he landed on his feet. Now one thing. And snoop's defense. And i i saw this on twitter. It was awful. I feel away about him leaving going to aws after just doing his whole undertaker thing. I think it was a little rough. But i love snoop That top turnbuckle guys the always high up there is is high now know is high and you could see it. Did you see when snoop stepped up was like oh this is high in dip and i went to the we went to warehouse once and hung out when i was doing a bunch of stuff there. We went and played rolled around in the rain. A little bit for fun we climb. That's off turnbuckle. It's high with nobody around. You're still scared to kind of climb to the top turnbuckle and fully extend. Its next time snoop just middle rope. It is no shame. yeah no. that's a great point. There's no shame in the middle of like like like bret hart hitting elbow off the middle rope you know iconic still iconic still S g do me a favor and Enjoy yourself as much as you can this week and be safe in this crazy world soupy. U2 and everybody out there stage take it easy man. it's interesting meaning of like a little bit. Heart is greatest professional wrestlers in the history of artful..

"Merry christmas and happy new year sincerely zach aka sakari. Thank you man. That's so nice. A lot of these masters nice because they're on the holidays Nice let's go to marcus. Ma ma ma ma mail greetings macho berg greg the hitman. I haven't been watching wrestling long but thanks to the wwe network gone back and watched a lot. Thanks to quarantine of old content. I've been watching any w since day one. I can honestly say that when it comes to pure wrestling not brawling style or gimmick matches. It's not even close between aws wwe aws. Men's rosser is head and shoulders above. Wwe's in terms of pure wrestling and this omega and phoenix solidified. It outside of coal ballard. Aj andrade there's nobody on ww's roster that can put on a better wrestling match than ninety percent of the w roster can't wait to hear. Greg contorted his way through this. Take it easy marquis. White bay i. I gotta tell you i'll let s talk but you already know how he feels a you. Don't need us geeta contorted. That's just not true what you said and it wouldn't be a contortion because it's false he wouldn't have to control. You wouldn't have to bend over to lean to aside. No listen you might say you like the style of matches that they prioritize in. Aws more no problem if you start making about wrestling talent. Actual like the talent of the wrestlers binding wbz's a better roster. They wwl first of all. It's it's deeper is much deeper. It's too much talent for them. To not have like they have the most stacked roster they have smackdown raw and x t k and then they got guys waiting in the wings at the. Pc that haven't even hit tv. At and also i noticed you specifically didn't mention the women's roster no i'm i don't know heeded he right right because it gets scary whether you have the charlotte and sasha banks and balian oscar. He didn't listen bailey. Bali as a character as an everything. She's one of the best in the business today period. I listen i love you. I deeply appreciate your listening that was attack teams because you know who sows missing as attack team new day just got cut down to two thirds of their strength. I'll give all. There's a debate to be had about the tour and they prioritize the tag team division. A lot over there right. They give it a long time right but the roster the talent come on. Did you see the beautiful thing written about me on four one. One mania did not. Do you ever read for mania. i do. Not have you heard of it. I have heard of it so you know it's a it's a it's a dirty it's a you know it's a it's a website that does all. They do a lot of stuff but they do movies. Tv music wrestling stuff like that. You know nerdy stuff right. They did they do a year end. Awards s g. and. They did not they. They did the top five or they ended up breaking total ten. They asked each of the writers to do a top five non wrestlers right so for example. The top five ended up. Being number five was a tie between don callous. And jake roberts okay. Number stretch number four was william regal number. Three was number two was tony. Shivani and number one was paul heyman. I don't agree with their top five but it exists so then they had. They had each writer. Give their take shout out to jake. Chambers wanted to point him out. Because i've definitely called out people before who been jerks to me as she g so i thought what kind of jerk would i be to not give a shot to someone who i don't know who gives me such love one. Want to hear this. Yeah i'm trying to find it myself. You know what you read it because it makes me less of a senate here know what here i'll just copy and paste it for you so you can read it. And i don't feel like such a bad guy. I'll tell you this part. In meantime the wallets making its way to you. Haven't i think i have it but you can tell me this part here. I sent it to you anyway. So his top five guys overall top five was his. I was vickie guerrero. I didn't know vicki doing much on tv this year. But so i'll try not to be offended by that. Four was paul. Heyman three was original busy. This saw which i appreciate and to was the assistant to the uk manager sid. I don't know that is his number. One with peter rosenberg so this guy likes to go off. Beat now listen when you hear that list. You might think he's being sarcastic completely but as she read this beautiful writing about about me. I'm touched by this much. To peter retrospect peter rosenberg on his return to the. Wwe cre- shows this year. But this is just as much a volt for his regular cheap heat podcast in a year when we've seen some of wwe periphery podcasts. Co opted by the network cheap heating by the way. That's a shot. "People treated him like family. He was family to a lot of people. I was always a fan of him personally. In the ring. I thought he was a great wrestler and i was thinking about that i feel like he always got love on this podcast. I don't. I don't think we were ever critical of his work like he loved working a w i loved his work. Wwe you know having his kid come out on the tribute show and and you know tony kahn. And and go to give him the title and just all the truth the whole thing. I thought was an unbelievably well. Done by. A w i was frankly surprised that. Wwe even put a thing. But i guess he had recently worked. There had so recently worked there that so many people consider him family and he was so close to so many people there that i feel like they probably need felt like they need to do will it would have been. It would have been started to want to. But yeah i mean. He seemed so beloved in that locker room but is making was. I felt like it made me feel like part of a community. To like the way. I the emotion that i felt With all the tributes and you know in the days following his death so it's almost like there wasn't a community until he passed away like way everybody came together and like it wasn't about companies that was just about like wrestling and love and brodie lee. Who was like it was like probably that was the first time if felt like what people say it should be about. You know what. I mean like just loving wrestling at appreciating the talent and everything like that before. I think i think that was new to the fans and to the internet. I think the fans in the internet Finally got to feel what it's like for the boys because in the business that is what it's like like there's a reason eddie. Kingston shows up. And you're like how was eddie kingston. This close with jon moxley. I've never seen together once in my life. And then and then eddie kingston telling the stories of our john moxie telling the stories of sitting. Eddie kingston's mothers table in new york. And you're like oh yeah because we don't follow every moment of these guys in these career. Indy careers when they completely are interwoven. So i think the passing of brodie lee allowed everyone to see just how close people can be in the wrestling business. And everyone is so interwoven. We don't realize how interwoven people are. Legends included. you know yeah often. Legends include the ones. You stuck around. You know that was probably one of the the the most heartfelt and difficult things to read afterwards was the post from bray wyatt we know when he posted about we were supposed to wrestle in in small gyms when we were seventy athere any dip Go ahead i knew got work to do. We'll talk to you soon. Stage stage but it was It really was as she g like. I said to dip if someone had told you. Luke harper brodie lee is going to tragically pass away. You would have thought. Oh my god. That's tragic and that's horrible and upsetting. I don't think. I would have believed it would stop the wrestling world on. Its access the way it did. Say a gallstone said it or go said it and it's true like this was like what's level of universally beloved he with the family man. He made everything feel like a family. Just like it sucks that we didn't get to see that side of him but at the same time know how much he loved the business and the characters that he portrayed week. We got some special from him to. And it's like it's tough because you d we did lose a wrestler but it just felt like when you read the tributes and hear what everybody had to say like the world just lost an incredible human like says occupation aside like that type of guy if he was a construction worker like it will be a tremendous loss yard. I mean feels like a plumber. You know a a florist. You know your neighborhood. Flores did that was just a lot tremendous loss. That's what it felt like. He just felt like man such a special guy and it was one of the weird things for me that you know working in the way that i work with the company i come in for a day or a couple of days a month sometimes more. Sometimes i'm gone for a year. You know whatever and you may have relationships there with people who are best friends with someone. And you don't know that person at all. Because i don't i didn't know him at all if i ever said a word to him. I don't remember that happened. Like meanwhile i would say big e is among the people. I'm closest to at the company and they were like brothers. Yeah you know. And i i made sure to reach out to big e in the days afterwards because he is such a sweet wonderful man i just to check in on him but you know and emilio sparks was so close with him and all these be and so. It's it was very weird. And i understand. This is a selfish way of looking at this. I'm just letting you guys know my personal feelings. But i was away. I was in nashville. And i felt so weird because in one sense of course i was just sad as a fan. You know the basic sadness of this awful situation. But then i also felt so bad for all these other people that i care about thinker. Great because of their loss but feel weird. Because i'm like i don't even know the guy. I only know him. In the way. That i am a fan. Thought he thought he did great work And thought it was just the beginning. I mean he finally got with the brody lead character. He finally had an opportunity to be a main event. Guy you know and listen. He was he was very young. Trust me. I'm forty one so he was way too young to die but he was not a spring chicken for the wrestling business. He'd put a lot of work and he just sort of gotten toward the top of the mountain so in addition to the personal tragedy which is obviously just brutal. His his kids and his wife From a wrestling standpoint. We will never get to know exactly what it would have looked at the top of the mountain for brody lee. He was just he was just getting there. And you know day ws credit we. We talked about this. They moved their stories lying along very slowly so and while while i commend that all the time. Take your time with the story Who knows you know might have been a year or two before. Brody lee was literally at the absolute. You know we would've eventually gotten the brody moxley story you know. Yeah we would have gotten maybe kingston we there. There could have been so many things that would have come down the line.

"So i guess which bitch makes no sense to me because we all i'm less. My crystal ball is in the mail. It could have went either way. There really wants potential for it to go either way we'll be. You didn't think that it was going to go well. You i want you that it would lead to something good right. It would be sold. Bet like like almost like the producers that play there would be so bad that it could be a different type of success but but again i think zack made the gave us the best rebuttal to that is just that like the history and the evidence doesn't suggest that it'll be so bad that will inspire them to like like fire under them. It'll be it would be so bad. That heads will roll. And then somebody will take the blame and then this will just be in the history as like a bad episode of raw. That was a one off like. We're not going to get anything out of this new. You're hoping for the only thing hope for as she. Jeez hope is that monday night's episode of raw is what yesterday was to our nation for democracy. Yeah but it looks. Like i'm wrong on both counts though but i know the the the democracy was certainly going to take a long time to play out. Ww will know in a few weeks. I if if anything good comes. But i'm at a point where i think. The yesterday was so bad for the country that i believe the damage it most do is to the people who are responsible for what happened so i think there will be a net good. I don't think that next week will come back with an episode of raw where they go. You know what it's time to. Really buckle down and give storylines that mean something i. i hope. that's the case. Listen we're all getting ready for the season that s. She has wax poetic on this. That basically more often than not a season that delivers jet late january to april is generally at least pretty good. And you get to something you care about now. Last year is a tough one to talk about because we got to march early march and then the whole thing went to the pc. But i think we're having a different conversation guys if after the rumble were not excited about several stories and just backup to just like they know the problem. You know what i mean. Ali was on raw talk and articulated the problem with legends night. And how they do it very well that they have a talented roster and i think the way he said it was that like these legends blazed a path. But you don't let us walk on the path. They have a very talented roster that they could do something with and i mean they hired talented writers. We know people who who worked for them. As writers they wait we know. Talented writers untalented writers all kinds of writers. But i would say it is that they can sack who worked for dot com by the way. Yeah exactly and zack. Dot com and you who who they bring in other media professionals the kickoff show and they have everything that they need to be as successful as we make them up in our minds to be when they do good every once in a while. You know it shouldn't be the case that like roman is here thriving and he's leaps and bounds far and away so much better than everybody else when they can put different people in the positions to be just as good. I know everybody can't be top tier but the gap does not have romans romans a great example too because 'cause dipper seen as we know is not the world's biggest roman guy he doesn't think romans a super talent however he has had you have had moments dip over the last few months where you've really enjoyed what's going on with roman because it's a good. He's had a good story at times. It just seems like they can't do more than one. It's one story and the rest is rough. I mean i'm not even gonna give cat. Because when w is back against the wall like they always stay always hit a home run. I remember a few years ago when somebody when people got sick and they lost several talents and they still managed to pull a great show because they pulled awesome finishing. Aj out of the hat and then like it didn't even matter that these people were sick and couldn't liberal was advertised because they had the talent so it's like can't is not. I'm not even giving them that. I'm giving them won't yeah. That's a better word. Reason dipper yoga. Yeah i'm just thinking about trying new I'm thinking about what my my how crazy i want to go on. The goldberg goes crazy. I'll say this about the goldberg just to open the door. I mean this is another case of of just roman being great roman andrew when roman andrew was stay at the contract signing he told drew your secondary title holder. You're the guy that they send in when roman doesn't want to do it right and doesn't want to do. It was reported for months that it going to be roman goldberg. And the fans pooh-poohed on it for just as long. Why would roman wanna do that doesn't want to do that. But what send in the secondary. What about drew who. Who really is doing his best. And like actually i think drew i think drew now has the potential actually to be made. I think he's finally got into the precipice of he could be made. And what are we getting set. We get him posing down with hulk hogan and then getting knocked over by goldberg. That's what you wanna do to drew. And that's what i was going to say you. Well what about drew is like role told you. Drew is the guy who's going to say. Yes when he says no drew her all this now opposing round with hoke hogan rome is not getting for the but for the record they are in different power positions. It's just it's just how it is. It is true. Drew has to drew's been given the title during this pivotal time. They're like we. They trust him he is. He's such a nice guy is gonna turn around and blank. Sorry mate not going to do. I'm not gonna work with him now. That's just not who he is you know. And he's a great guy. So it's it's unfortunate because i really starting to see drew in a credible way and then monday happen so dip. Let's let me guess you're really excited about the return of goldberg. You think it made perfect sense that these legends parted like the red sea and all a sudden goldberg walked out as if he's the biggest legend in wwe history. They that was. That was the part that bothered me. The most was the setup was such that it was like everyone. Stand aside goldberg's here. He's not even a wwe legend before before dip goes off. I will say that that was sad. That like they do a thing like lead ins night and the one person who they tie into a storyline and like make it meaningful enough to justify even during the legends night was goldberg. He's the one person who got something out of it. Also i look. I don't even know what to say. I was a goldberg guy..

"I care about these people. I this is my. That's my era wrestling but to see the versions of them that are just the bloated up sad sort of versions of these people. Just do whatever. Their gimmick was five seconds. Backstage is not entertaining if you at hp k. Come out and like do. I even know how i feel about seeing. Hpk these days. I don't wanna see him. I don't want to be like this it. It hurts me in my soul. A really this is not. This is a man who used to be. Hpk it's just heartbroken. He's not the heartbreak off the heart. Broken broken kit. The face the hair the the body language everything about it is is only but You can have. hpk come out stone cold. The modern legends and be a and incorporate them into the story. Lines the walking back stage to put over a young to to put over what's his name. The the you know the angel garza Who no one cared. I mean at the end of that. No one cares angel. Okay angel garza is a good wrestler. In my opinion. He's not a star. Okay well and certainly not right now. There's nothing that's particularly. I mean he's nothing. I don't even know what they're doing. They're putting him over. what in what. Way that he can attract wilson or attract. This one i mean. It's it's really nonsensical but if they wanna do a legends night have the modern legends. Come out and put them involved. In some of the story lines there are no story lines but if there were storyline wrestling putting them in the story lines in doing something fun like that would be would be fine now. You could argue that randy. Orton is the legend killer. And they try to. You know whatever with the mark henry thing which was abysmal in bizarre and awful and that was the thing that i thought i had a chance to be interesting only because they have a his day of a history and mark henry still looks good and is young and so like i was like. Oh what's going to happen here and it will roll. We'll what is a wheel away. What it was was crazy. You want to incorporate mark henry into raw you know tell have him. Coaching the hurt business for the night and have him you know. I don't know whatever. I don't even know i haven't given it much thought because it was so crazy. Sounds like you thought than they did right. It was it was a very rough. I have a little bit of an explanation on a few of the things that they did. And why But i i you know from from hearing some stuff that i heard this week but i just it's The legends scenario is just What tonka just appears that's it. You're standing there in the thing. And by the way he looked really aboard an annoyed by what he was doing and by the way there was a moment where to tonka if you saw tonka whatever the whatever the segment he was in if you just focused on him he was like what is going on right now. Why am i here to doing this all day. What do you think they paid to talk for the night. I don't know that's gonna. That's gonna level when i know and the terrible joke that i was going to make but i would leave it alone so many to make now also there so so again there. No i mean. I think you just felt the way everybody feels. But this isn't about whether or not these people are legends. It's just about what their age ranges Why to mickie. James and alicia fox just all of a sudden act. Like i'd never knew alicia fox wasn't officially even talent anymore. Okay like that. I didn't section and this is what this is. What goes to legend conversation to right. It's like legends is is the same as superstars you get signed and no matter what allegedly achieved. You are a superstar and then you're no longer superstar. You're just alleged a just it's just a term that they use to. It's a good point doesn't mean anything like it means to us. It doesn't mean it doesn't mean you're wrong the greatness. It's whoever that is just a term. It's whoever is in good favor with that. That's right yeah exactly. Yeah if you're if you're in good favor you're a legend if you're not and you don't have a deal just a retired wrestler former w superstar former superstar who didn't become alleged like whoever was involved in that class action lawsuit. You know years ago is not involved in wrestling anymore. I mean i gotta tell you. I'd love to see the power is a bait television demolition. Whoever you're gonna put legends on their. They're missing incredible legends. I thought i thought you made the best point though. Take the legends who actually legends. Who are still capable of being on camera in a way. That's meaningful booker t. Jbl mick foley. Steve austin gives who you could still utilize who are capable of doing stuff and seemingly could make mark henry things that could possibly make sense but like they don't ever give us that you know hard i would pop right now for a storyline where someone was getting a faction was getting led by like. This is going to sound crazy right. What have we found out that there was some other person behind the hurt business. We've been hearing about this name. Who's been involved in the hurt business. We don't know who it in who it is. Hold on and then one day you who is this blah blah and you hear a conversation. You see the camera pan up. And they're like well. That's why we always went every time we talk to you we blah blah blah. And they do that old school. Ww style pan of who is it. And it's jbl enfold. Gimmick he's been. He's been behind the scenes masterminding with mvp the hurt business his takeover again of wwe. Someone who like could then be utilized i know. Jbl can't really do a ton of work right now. But i know he can absolutely take some good punches and do some basic stuff to be a manager without a doubt and you could have a real a compelling and guess what. Jbl gives you a guy who when he cuts promos in the middle of the ring. It's must see tv. Absolutely agree lakey. Why not utilize the guys that are. You're making them fly in for the pay per views and different like that. Why not utilize them that way. But this is just so. sag listen. We had an argument on tax the other day because you are hopeful that maybe something good could come out of the legends night..

"Joy it is it is a life on. It's a joint and let me tell you. I let me i. I'll tell you the other one. That i always wanted that i never had that i found for a very revived j. d. By the way i do that that looks fantastic. Is ted arsidi. I bought at our cd. Wait they made one. There's no ted are cd. There is and let me tell you it comes with the bacne. Your this is made up. There's there's there's really are cd yes and let me tell you what he's post says i lift weights seriously. Yeah is there. Legitimately attacked our cd. Yes i think it was eighty seven as she. Does this shock. You this does shock me. Who would have purchased that. I do not know this. He's a shopper. Jobber no well the jones and he hasn't he has asked. Jones does have one. John's but s g jones was a slightly more made jobber. Yes he was. Yes s. t. jones listed as being from. Is he treny herb barbados know. Anyway i can confirm the is a is a cd. L. j. that is shocking and st. John's from t gua from antigua. That's correct thank you i apologize. I'm beautiful country. So so. I am now an expert on the market value of these things are so useful that are indecent loose loose but decent shape. I can tell you exactly what they're worth valuable one. The least valuable ones are like hillbilly. Jim is not that valuable because it was widely made. And it's not like he's considered that connick. Yeah i mean you know piper pa. Pa piper galore. Yeah j. d. is not that they made a lot of ideas. Yeah i mean the ones that they made a ton of are not that message. But it's the ones from eighty nine the final the final ones right before they go to hasbro. There's listeners that no way more than me and way more. I mean there's people that know everything about these like you know like like zack. Ryder and and you know you know fig he'll and all these people know everything about everything. I'm just interested in the loose ones that are in decent shape and i'm going to get them all. I'm going to get every single one. So i'm starting with the inexpensive ones and i'm going to go from there. I'm buying macho man next. It's forty bucks monuments forty. It's thirty five thirty. And then depending on and then. The shipping costs so in total. It's like you know forty to fifty bucks. My warlord is worth like four hundred dollars and it's not in great shape and it's warlord that's incredible. It's rare well. listen. I'm sure it is rare and i'm glad we spent forty or fifty minutes on elgin's but we actually have some things. We have to get to here where i i don't know. It's almost like disrespectful. To just do our brodie lee retrospective in the midst of this show. When you know well let me just at the stable. The table i the biggest thing that's happened since we last convened the passing of bernie lay. There was an atrocious episode of monday. Night raw this past. Monday there was the brodie lee tribute show last week which needs to be talked about and then there was some interesting things that happened on a w last night. Some good some not so good So what i'm saying. How do we frame this. Do you want to go right into. Brody layer should we. Should we end the show. Why don't we end the show with our tribute and retrospective on broadly. How do you feel about that. I like that. Brodie lee in the main event sounds great to me. That sounds good to me. All right brody will be the main event. So in the meantime Talk about legends nights on monday night raw which came out of nowhere. I guess it got announced last week that again. This was one of those very obvious things that democracy in is complained about a million times of trying to quote unquote pop rating it. I'll say this. I don't i haven't seen the ratings. It made me interested to turn on the show. At eight o'clock. The problem was i turned on the show at eight o'clock and the first thing i saw was some inexplicable hulk hogan bit about the h. Phone it was as if the iphone one came out last week and so they wanted to play on the popularity of everyone discussing this brand new iphone. So we're gonna do a cheesy joke of the hulk hogan h phone however all we were left with was this nonsensical joke about the h. Phone because of course the iphone not even in the news right now. It's not even thing right now so. I was flabbergasted that that was the start. The show damn the fact that we've given up on the fact that hulk hogan will never leave the character like that. This is it. This is the only way performs is what you're gonna do brother which i just don't have an interest in anymore either. I would you guys know we were not gonna spend. I do not want to spend with how many race problems we have in the world. Greg your if you feel passionate feel free meal thing i don. I'm done talking about even the hogan race situation from a wrestling standpoint nineteen eighty-six hulk hogan doesn't play so if you want to utilize him because he's one of the biggest stars of all time you need to make a real character fallible thing a character who has dimensions to him trotting him out to go. What you're gonna do. It's who is it for. And here's the thing to just to just to add onto what you're saying nine thousand nine hundred eighty two eighty s hogan what you're gonna do brothers stick doesn't play because w w e killed okay. They forced them out then. They forced his hand with austin and made him go to the hollywood black and white character that he can't really return to right now either that now. That's a very interesting take. That's a very interesting take. So you're saying that. When he came back there was truly never a real coming back to red and yellow now like with like over. It's it's been over since he donned the black and white. the red and yellow is really been dead. in fact what's the last. What's the last great red and yellow month moment that you remember is brock listeners. Standing over him taking the title from his hands one last time wiping hogan has been dead w killed hogan that red and yellow hogan so many different ways. That's a bring it back now is is. It's a slap in the face without all the race. Stuff that it's not interesting. I gotta tell you it's a fantastic take out of us. It was that was just the beginning though. The truth is what upset me. The most throughout the night was just the lack of creativity on how to use these guys in funny entertaining ways. You know. I'm not going to bury the people they brought back in question. Who's a legend. And who's not okay. That's whatever that's stuff you can certainly argue but it doesn't make a difference really what makes a difference is. What are you doing with these guys. When they're back listened. The disconnect is so vast from what is entertaining. And what is not at this point watching the show like that that i i don't even know how to even begin to articulate what that episode of television was i. I'm not gonna go crazy right now but that it was like. I can't even believe what i was. Seeing at this point we hear damn one more time i ran i. I'm gonna blow my brains out. If i hear sargent slaughter go puke i raise. I mean it's it's insane. They almost did something cool. Let me let me let me tell you what we legends. Night should be a car. I gotta bring out. Hp stone cold triple h they the the the the legends who are of truly yesteryear slaughter irs 'tatanka..

Yeah they're not even good cartoons so yeah. I told him would've okay with to the beatles ordering in the mid nineteen sixties. The bill pointed to star in a of the race film directed by stanley kubrick. Oh god featuring original songs thou pretty crazy. If the beatles had written a music honestly the beatles rings album would be pretty epic. It would be but it could be hokey like. I don't like their yellow submarine album. It's just it's one of the weeks albums so it could have been like that but look worse. I mean i like the. La deals reno is on my favorite. There is tabled. Hey on it. But like i don't like anything else on. It really looks another octopus in on that one. That's our doesn't have he wrote Bull yells raids on yellow submarine. Be ellison bring was first on revolver. Yeah it's gonna be great So all of the cast of serving turner time zealand and mortenson one time and he crashed somehow early in bruce's face and The pickup artists were trying to cover it up and stuff like eventually realized there was no good way to cover it up and so in the minds maurya scene where where they they're in look the tomb Give you only see them from one side of his face like the whole scene because the other side is bruce elected. Just shot at such that you would only see one side of his face via word he definitely have a good side definitely for sure. Any any Any final thoughts on the fellowship of the ring you know they. I don't have any final. Any groundbreaking final thoughts. Yeah it is pretty crazy that the first movie With reagan at the end of the movie of eligib- is disbanded. And it's pretty wild frodo. Sam go their separate ways with legless gamely and eric or go into go marry pitted so the fellowship was kind of doomed which is pretty crazy tolkien dams pretty crazy just like drop that in the first third of your big story. Yeah they have an office as as we as we know you know movies at least it seems like office dead. Yeah just horrible. I'm very afraid Yes or towers. Episode might be disaster. As as you're hearing here. I taught by the disaster. The webby two towers yet. No i mean like it's it's a lot of exposition. It's probably the weakest of the three. But that's kind of what i thought going into it and then there was still so much that i loved about it that just lake copy up in the whole story. I mean it's just still so big and you're one of those people that have refused to loss lord of the rings because you think it's nerdy or because ever seen it or whatever your reason it is just now that we would love for you to wash lord of the rings and we're not here to get your any. "There running an offense that completely ineffective play makers aren't making plays and the office allies not the way the wind has gotten better likes me. Just divide and organization that no one really knows the direction nicklaus stay right there in the nfc east division cowboys owner jerry jones compared to head coach mike mccarthy who is three at three and eight at the moment to super bowl champion head coach. Jimmy johnson who want to super bowls with the cowboys. And it's early. What do you make of of jerry's comments in comparison. Yeah i mean that's nonsense comparison. Jerry jones is obviously if it was like he's been around long enough to know what he can say to get his name in the news to get us because anybody who would compare those two. I think that's very jones is not a just a football coach like a team building. Hey took that nonsense organization back then when they come off of a win he built that organization with all those guys that he went and found and he draft board. That people still use to this day for trainings rapidly. My great deals was or was innovative. Who a lot of people humilation. That's mike mccarthy. Like i don't even understand that compares it and then to see to have that coming on heels of saying bendon nucci is the same thing as as having a a scout team or be a practice. Guard quarterback play or receiver play quarterback. I it just seems like jerry jones. Either he doesn't understand what football is anymore. Or he's just trolling. How about that. Strong stuff from dominic foxworth. Espn nfl analyst writer for the undefeated who joins us this morning on q. Sean j will and zubin. We're throwing this out here over the next three and a half hours eke wanna get your opinion on it. We'll get the fellas opinion on it and everybody listening this morning to in just a second simply put right now. The best running back wide receiver combo in football a lot of good ones. Which do you think is the best a lot of going. I think i'm going to lean to henry and brown and brown is a young guy. Big strong fast guy. He was the the other ole miss receiver next to be came back happened. He's been a hello playmaker. And derrick. henry is running back that it seems. Nobody wants to or is able to tackle in the league right now. So i'm i'm not a hundred percent confident because i'm all other combos are going through my head. That are really good. Also know michael. Thomas and dalvin cook thomas. Great but like thomas doesn't attack you deep in. That's the one thing that i gonna attack you get.

"It was really junior varsity to be quite honest with you. it was audrey phases. We couldn't run the ball effectively when we needed to drop too many significant passes very catchable makeable passes. We didn't make significant plays in the special teams game. Kickoff coverage wasn't good enough. We turned the damn all over. We gave up. Big plays in critical moments on defense can have it on a converted a long run on his own possession down before half unacceptable and a seven yard touchdown late in the game unacceptable and so We're fortunate tonight. is good to to proceed. with victory acknowledged that but not a lot happening tonight to be proud of to be excited about other than that. You had some red zone failures and a number of drop pass with you attribute that to anything in particular sock him so much no contract no compromise. I do too but after hearing that little diatribe there from coach tomlin. Both of you in separate ways are saying coach till just one game. No i'm not. I'm not saying that he's correct and he's right. I'm i'm saying it's one game. They won the game. But when you look at everything from the first quarter to the end of the game they were not perfect as he said in any phase of the game whether it's mcleod fumbling On the punt. Return whether it's big being fumbling or throwing an interception or whether it's a getting beat on long play from hollywood brown cutting back against the grain. All in all sorts of different things whether it was rg three scampering where there is the receiver johnson dropping. A number of passes he plays receiver got to catch the ball. Bre slants wide open touchdown being put it on its receivers in a league. That would die to have that opportunity to score touchdown again it. That's why. I say they've gotta clean this stuff up. They've got to show me something if they plan on playing kansas city. Whether it's in pittsburgh or kansas city or neutral site to be pittsburgh. Be kansas city. They've got to clean that up because whatever that was last night they take that to kansas city when they play kansas city because i believe they will possibly be blanket. Run out the building in. I think mike tomlin knows that. That's why he's so passionate about communicating in letting everyone know that my team's not very good we didn't we didn't show anything last night. No one thing in that game. I walked away from saying man. He goes see city run for their money. Now one thing. And i understand you know a t. J. watt was covering hollywood. Brown will right out of the backfield now. Brown was four yards. In front of tj tj was grabbing for dear life is just so happy robert griffin to third through ball. It looked like he was throwing from the outfield in baseball to third base on a straight line. Dr patrick mahomes is not missing. Throw to tyreek hill. So you've gotta clean those little bitty things up. Mit's certainly it not gonna fool me on this one. this game. Yesterday was an anomaly to key the steelers as i understand the internal perspective from mike tomlin and your perspective right. because you're thinking about the chiefs. How do we win the whole thing. The reality is this team has in place as the number twenty second right. A lot of their stuff has been influx. I understand james conner not being there having the anxiety of are we going to play today. Or we're gonna play tomorrow. We just look like they were out of sync. And i understand things for them to work on but like there has to has to play into it a little bit. We still are talking about a team. That is eleven an oath correct and undefeated team now. They've blown only three teams out this year. Only three teams out this year. Every other game has been somewhat close and i understand how that can be used against him an argument but i can make the other argument by saying knows how to win ugly. Now that may not have been their best performance last night and maybe we wanna see them. Blowout teams like. Casey does but also seen kansas city. Play down to the level their competition as well so yes they are explosive but they've also allow teams they in ballgames. That shouldn't have stayed in ball games as well joy. I hear what you're saying but yesterday's game isn't that big of an indictment on the pittsburgh steelers to me. It's not that big of an indictment but when you take on a team that's basically missing mark ingram Jk dobbins eight lamar jackson in a host of other players in you. Put that type of performance out on tape. It does not serve you. Well makita some key. Your your body is all about rhythm like right like you get into your routine. Get into your rhythm. I know if i if. I don't play in a game for a little bit like in basketball if i don't plan a game a week. I'm going to be rusty like that alone two weeks i understand. I understand which you san about a routine and rhythm playing of those sorts of things it does not take you four quarters to get going. It does not take you. Four quarters to get going. Being rothlisburger was delivering the football. They were dropping it. they were dropping. It has nothing to do you. You're you're messing around with. Rg three who has a stepped on the field as a starter since week. Seventeen a year ago in that happened to being issue.

"Joining me now first-class father be brody. Welcome to I last fatherhood. What's them in? How's it? Going? All right. Let's start right here. how many kids do you have and how old are. I've got two kids that are six and nine next week. Okay. Very cool. You Go. You got what he in wonder what's The denomination? Yeah. Two girls and which is the reason the whole company exist. Really you know having two girls like I had a daughter the first time around And maybe we should preface. So I own a company called tactical baby gear will. Remake cool. Diaper bags for DADS right and That's really the whole reason exists because I was having a daughter the second time and I knew that meant had to carry my wife's girly diaper bag again and I didn't WanNa do that. You guys. You're going for the boy or not no I don't think so it depends on who you ask. So you know my wife is of of the opinion that we need to keep trying and have another in a not so much. You know, I think you know got a six year old a nine year old like out of diapers or in school like all the things are good were passed all like there's some of the really shitty moments of early you parenting and utterly yeah exactly. Don Sort of the next phase of things and it's really hard to think. That you want to start over you know. So, yeah we. We have four kids to be at our three boys, and then we finally got the girl on the fourth try. So if not, we probably have five by now most likely, but we got our best the name it out to yeah definitely my business punters four kids himself. He's got four boys and he's like all right I'm done. That's in. All right. Well, if if you could I know you hit on a little bit but if you just my listeners but a little bit more about your background and what you do yes. So as I kind of just briefly mentioned I own a company called tactical baby gear and we design and manufacture like military style diaper bags for DADS. Meeting just like cool cool diaper bags at Dad's actually want to carry in the mission of the company is Really Gig it dad's more involved with being apparent early on and changing some of that mindset and it's not for everybody. Then there's there's certainly people out there have no problem carrying a girly diaper bag or whatever but we find that the vast majority more often than not. Given the option Dad's going to gravitate towards our style bag versus the traditional women's diaper bag. So it's It's been very interesting to see how you can get and change the mindset of a guy having a child just by saying, Hey, you have an option for a cool bag that might fit your personality better So it's it's very rewarding in that regard of getting messages from from women. Who Say I got this from my husband is a gift. This is so cool. He had zero interest in the baby was not into. A military family he's deployed. The whole time didn't care at all I. Got Him. This is a gift announced. The only thing he he'll talk about the baby and how excited he is, and he wants to use the bag and Baba. And it gets them involved like just like very early on in those early stages of being more involved as a as a parent early on and then that obviously transitions. into the later years of parenting where it really really matters when you're talking about teaching them life lessons and things like that. But. Yeah that's Kinda. Just of it. Yeah I love what you're doing. One of the things I hit on all the time on my show here is talk about the fatherless crisis that we have going on in the country. We have so many kids that are growing up without a father in their home, and we're seeing the results of that play out all over our country, right? Now. In my opinion is the biggest disaster that we have the breakdown of our family units. One, hundred percent you know and I just had a Craig Sawyer on the on our podcast attacks. Go Baby Your podcast we were talking about human trafficking and child sex slavery and all stuff and how much of that stems from the lack of a father figure in the home because. You end up with kids with low self esteem who are looking for a little bit of positive something in their life, and then you've got this trip that's kind of going through this grooming process and building people upper some girl who's all you look so pretty all this stuff and that gives them a little bit of that that confidence that they were looking forward all of A. Sudden Trust this guy another being trafficked and I mean it it's become a very, very big problem and like you said, some of the other things playing out in the country human trafficking being such a big win that people are finally sort of starting to hear about more and more as you know, the epsteins stuff and all these things start to kind of come to light. but then you've got all these riots and you know there's a there's A. A bunch of people out there throwing temper tantrums to try to get what they want, and that's worked for them for many years because they didn't have good parenting in the home that said, no, you can't just throw a temper tantrum and get what you want. There's consequences to your actions. There's this. There's that Yeah. We're seeing that play out. It's society is very broken because of of poor parenting. Much more than a policing problem I. I believe it's definitely a parenting problem at the core and I've had the honor of having Craig Sawyer podcast twice and this week I'm having Hugh Jackson on for the second time in his foundation deals with the victims of human trafficking so I think. We both. Agreed to it makes it a much more easier target when there's no male role model or no father figure involved in these kids lives and makes them so much more susceptible to get snatched up by these. Unbelievable you know discussing human beings that are existing. It's amazing that the market for this is so huge. It's like like Craig says it's the fastest growing criminal the on the planet and it's an amazing that the market for this is is so big. It's so big and you don't hear about it and that's what's crazy. Thirty, eight, billion dollars in the US alone. You don't hear about it like that. How is that even possible and then he got Some of the stuff kind of people are starting to pick up on it and and there's these red flags right? Like the the wayfair stuff. There's cabinets on wayfair for fifteen thousand dollars have names of kids on him or something people like wait a minute what's going on here? Investigations into that kind of stuff and it's like this how they're doing their transactions kind of like under the radar on platforms like wafer it's just it's mind blowing. Yes. Scary stuff and I. I. I drive Uber on the weekends I was telling you earlier Darren You know, I see you know on Friday and Saturday nights any college town USA where Bars are getting out. You just gotTa get Uber thing on online and you can pull right up and these kids are getting right in the car without asking any questions or nothing like o r you this person and you're like, yeah. Okay. Sure and they get right in. So that's kind of scary although the technology is great that they're not drinking and. Driving but I think it opens the door up for so many more of these..

Incredibly but again that was only stress myself. No one else did that but everyone was super good to me. Everyone was super was just very refreshing most and to bring it back to what it used wrestling used to be and and I haven't had a match yet and I think once that happens in front of a crowd. I really really believe by like again. Who knows when that will be but yeah it was just again like the creativity like. Hey Hey we want to talk for two minutes. Whatever whatever you want and it's like wow okay cool and yeah I mean I have. I have a very clear vision of what I want to be. And I think I can bring it up to a certain level that it should be at and make a huge impact and again like make a difference in the industry professional wrestling. Do you know Stu Grayson and evil. We used to work together way back in before I got signed. We've wrestled and see for an Ottawa. "Let's go back to when you were off to be eight. Months was Rohan heard at the same time that I don't remember so we used to go through a thing where we would get hurt at different times I DISAGREE MY POTALA. Than he tore his biceps and I injured his elbow and then towards by some later but we kind of like it was in between each other. I think he might have been off when I was not at when I was off. Tv off at home. So I don't think that was even a possibility and then it became like we'll put you guys back together and give you a big push any wants you guys demolition and I was like man. I don't know if we could wear demolition gear in the year. Twenty eighteen or whatever it was. I don't know if that will fly. And he was actually cool enough to let us kind of revamp it and pitch them our own creative ideas and Rohan more than me like had great ideas for our look and stuff and I think through Kim. She was a huge help of it. Makes all of our gear? She was huge. Help for like the ideas and stuff like that and let's talk listeners. Vince Vince did he. Did he actually say I wanted to be like demolition? Was there any kind of scar stor? We were shown a picture of demolition and said this is what he wants. You guys to be so literally a picture of demolition and creative services showing some other pictures and it was just very very demolition very eighties. Because even the demolition look because Dan Lewis Ripoff of Road Warriors. And even that look Kinda strange because he had kind of two guys that weren't road warrior to exactly older dad types wearing bondage gear me. Enron are just a couple of DAD's you know but Rohan is into the Viking metal way more into the Viking than me. Yeah and even so even this like a funny thing about this is he would give me. We did the sing when I came back where he was like. Had these death metal t shirts on Viking metal shirts and he would give me some because I'm so clueless on that genre and finally I got a snap case when I was like no. I know this. I'm going to wear this but yeah so then a funny story with the bludgeoned bogere. We finally get it in. We put it on and I might call it. We look like a couple of minutes. I just wasn't feeling it and people were like no no. I think it looks cool. And I'm like I have kicked peds on and just tie off it was. It was a single top. These crazy pants with like shit all over him and like lots of stitching. Lots of weird joined coat. Trenchcoat WITH HOODS ONE SLEEVE. We had a giant mallet that we carry it around that we're not allowed to call sledgehammer because of this reason just shaking and so we have to to put these overtime. Vince want to see him. That's all right so we put him on in ruins. I don't WanNa put things you got to put the whole thing on everything. Put it all on buddy and so we put it on and we go smack on his door else. Come in and we opened the door. And he's getting a massage. And Larry Larry. The trainer is massaging his. I believe his calf even and he's cackling as we walk in layers. Just looking at me like I'm a you motherfucker and live inside. Looks up and he goes. Yep Love it and I go well did you wanNA see the other. He goes no no love it just puts his head back down to keep getting the massage and we walk out and that was that you learn over the timing of when they go into inches office. I had one of the greatest ideas of ever come up with it and actually involve the Wyatt. Family won't get in the whole thing but for Summer Slam Shawn Michaels and like you know white family attacks and has no. I could trust except for the one man that I know. I could go to the death with calls Shawn Michaels and I had plotted out. And Vince why Pichit Tomb was was eating steak and I had asked three different. People HAS EATEN ALREADY. Yes eaten already. Yes got in there. He was extra hungry that day and started eating his second meal and he was not paying attention to anything. The famous gave him the whole thing. Silence they just looks up at me and goes bad cow. What's bad cow? The steak is tough Mike. What about my great idea? I should've known you. I've pitched many things do where he's like. Just chowing US salad or something and like you hand them to. Y'All look at these on the plane and you walk. You're you're not going to look at those. How'd you come in twenty minutes later? You might go. This is gray exactly. And that's just the thing like you like you said. I used to have people telling me to like many. Just just got in. There is not eating anymore so so run Jimmy Kelly run in there. It's like nope in or a triple ages there. There's always something going on if you get the right. It's it's like it's like the right temperature of a shower. It's too cold or too hot. You're screwed if it's just right but it's rare. So what were you supposed to call your giant sledgehammer? Things melts and so we had a mainly. They became an accurate figure so that was cool but like we carry those things around and never used them and they want us to bring him to Saudi Arabia. And I remember. I think we are in a meeting with Vincent I said Sir like we. If we check these they're going to disappear and if we try to bring these on a plane they're going to arrest us and he's like yeah that's good. Yeah so he brought them over on his personal plane or the actual malice or they were huge wood mouse heavy heavy. Yep they were very dangerous. There's there's one thing when we first with a new day where I swung it and Kofi backpedaling out of the ring on his belly and I swung and smack the Matt and he told me that identified the boards when they took the ring partners. Like oh cool. Where's the name come from that? I think that was a vince. Call like can't you feel the word bludgeon? Can't you just feel it like I'm like no I don't feel at all? Then what like? Once we got rolling with it it was cool because me and Rohan do make a good tag team in like once we finally got along like. We're good at it but like at first it was just it was pulling teeth for me like. I just wasn't feeling it. Wouldn't you finally got along with you? I well when we first got together in the wife and I despise the man the life I hated I hated him. Okay though we we room together we tagged together and we were just literally constantly together and he snores more than any man I've ever met in my life. So rooming with him was hell. If I didn't fall asleep I I didn't sleep and wake up hating them. And then we'd be calling a match and I was just thinking about how much I hated him so it was a bit of a to do but like in the long run we became really great friends and the last run was just a lot of fun with them. Very interesting guys. My first meeting with embassy went to the same church that I used to go down the road here and my pass was like yeah this guy we want. You know we're GONNA WE'RE GONNA Slam Satan for Sunday afternoon thing. We come film something like you know like I don't really want to pass me. I'M NOT GONNA make it. I'm not going to wrestle with anybody so we got a guy here. He's like in the W whatever they're all go in there and it's he has a shorter who just like seven foot tall almost Mutairi humongous. And I something happened with. Hit Him with a chair. Something we work this thing out the one that I saw I think he was. He was Satan and I was Jesus or whatever the hell the typical Sunday morning thing. Anyways fest for my favorite story is like we said he's a big metal guy and we had a festival somewhere in Wisconsin or somewhere close to where he's in the twin cities or something isn't Minneapolis Minneapolis. Some are close to there and he goes I e texts mirror. Dmz I'M GONNA come to your show them great come down on the show like the status interested sister was on the bill and we were on the bill and the guy's that he was checking off. And so we go I go. I'm on the mainstays redeems. Playing I see him in the crowd. Any waves at me and said like three o'clock. We're at three o'clock and I think we're on the second stage and he's like I go we do the GIG. He's in the back watching our GIG and then when I'm done I'm texting. I can't find it. He's disappeared and then the next day or two days or three days. I'm like why I left us a why why. You didn't think you'd want to say hi to me like meet me at stage. Two three o'clock why would I not WANNA say hi to you? Unassuming right yeah very very ruinous. He's a sweetheart of a man though like he's a strange strange bird and once you get through that and you learn to love. It's just that's him and that's who he is. But like br deep down to the sweetheart of a man we still have regular contact with each other and He might have mentioned. I don't WANNA give trouble. Actually what did what did you think he think about this cage and then the big reveal of the toy. Plastic Spider Man. I don't know I I remember watching 'cause I'm GonNa head kind of shocked me like. Hey man they're going to do the thing tonight. And then that thing comes out and then they just killed it and you know the next week is just dead. And I'm like that's almost the same thing as as microsurgery to it's like okay. We're going to build you up. Because same thing. They built him up. He didn't lose a match she was. He's beating people weekly and then Alice Black beat them two weeks in a row for no reason and then the spider was revealed and killed and now who knows what's going to happen with them and you know he didn't do anything to Piss anybody off guy he's too nice and that same thing. I thought about me in ws I might have been two nights as well and one of my last kind of the one that was like this place was. I said we're in Detroit and I sat outside his office for off are so long and I'd give him pitches after the bludgeoned brothers. And after and I kinda was over again before I ask for my release Lake early. Twenty nineteen maybe. I sat outside the Office for three hours. And they're just doing the meetings that stuff and finally everyone leaves in in house. Last Michael Hayes thing walks out and he's like I'm the last one and knock on the door and he goes. I don't WanNa see anybody right now and I was like mother out there. No not all our Goddamn so I leave and I'm going to leave and I throw my shit.

Do Humans and Bananas Really Share Half Their DNA?

"During Party conversation or a Trivia night you may have heard the fun little fact that humans and Bananas Sheriff Fifty or even sixty percent of the same DNA there it seems to be a lot of differences though between a person and a piece of yellow fruit starting with the fact that one is an animal and the other is a plant but actually there is some truth to that startling statistic but it's not the whole truth. This urban legend of sorts likely originated from a program run by the National Human Genome Research Institute back in two thousand thirteen. Although similar similar data may have been run elsewhere genetics expert. Dr Laurence Brodie at his colleagues generated some banana human information to be included as part of an Educational National Smithsonian Museum of Natural History video called the animated genome that video noted that DNA between a human and a banana is forty one percent similar so in order to find out how this similarity was determined. We talked with Dr Brody himself. He explained that. I it's important to understand the difference. Prince between DNA and protein products. You can think of DNA as the blueprint of a house and protein products the actual house because all of the information is in there Then think of human DNA is the blueprint for a ranch home and banana. DNA is that of a condo in each house. A bunch of things are similar. The plumbing bathrooms kitchen and products are both quite different. That's how it works with humans versus just about everything else from bananas to chimpanzees. The second thing to keep in mind is that genes which are the regions of DNA that code for these proteins. Only make up about two percent of your DNA in order to compare humans and bananas scientists. I looked at the sequences of jeans and a typical banana. Genome Brody said we then used these DNA sequences to predict the amino acid said sequence of all the proteins that would be made from those genes. We then did the same process for all human genes. All of the protein sequences were placed in a file file next. The scientists compared the protein sequence from each banana gene to every human. Jean Brodie said the program compares. How similar the sequence of the banana genes are to each human? Gene Program. Kept any matches that were more similar than one would expect by chance. The program continued doing this gene by gene seen all told more than four million comparisons were done resulting in about seven thousand best hits between the two genomes then the percent similarity score score for each of those hits was averaged Brady said this gave us the result of about forty percent this is the average similarity between proteins gene products. Not What genes gene products or proteins are the biochemical material resulting from Jean becoming functional. Brody continued of course there are many many genes in our genome that do not have a recognizable counterpart in the banana genome. Ns Versa in case. That's a bit difficult to chew and swallow. Let's let's break it down. Essentially they took all of the banana jeans and compared them one at a time to human genes from that they called a degree of similarity. If the banana had the gene. But the human didn't that didn't get counted and about sixty percents jeans have a recognizable counterpart in the Banana Genome Brady explained and of those sixty percent. The proteins encoded by them are roughly forty percent identical when we compare the amino acid sequence of the human protein twins equivalent in the banana. Uh it may seem shocking that so many genes and so many of the proteins that they create are similar in to such vastly different beings as a person in a banana. But when you think about it. It's not that shocking. Brody explained if you think about what we do for living and what a banana does. There's a lot of things we do. The same way. Like consuming oxygen a lot of those genes are just fundamental to life so when people repeat the percentages being a similarity of DNA. Actually actually what the research looked at was the similarity of gene products. Brody reassured US. It's a pretty minor mistake. The kernel that you would take home is that we have something in common with a banana and a potato and the pine tree that part is true. The fine points about the gene products or the DNA is easy to see how that would get translated incorrectly so the scientists looked at the DNA sequence of a banana and compared it with the DNA of human it would not align. We also spoke by email with Mike Francis a PhD student in Bioinformatics at the University of Georgia. He explained you share fifty percent of your DNA with each of your parents but with bananas as we share about fifty percent of our genes as we said earlier genes make up just two percent of your DNA. So what's the other ninety eight percent made up of well. Eight percent of the rest of your DNA regulates genes as to whether a gene should be turned on or off other ninety percent appears to have unknown functions or functions that have been lost through evolution. Francis said these unknown sections of DNA used to commonly called junk DNA because it was thought to do nothing I hesitate to use the phrase junkie because each year. It seems we realize more of this junk is actually functional. Humans don't just share a high percentage of protein protein encoding genes with bananas. We also share eighty five percent of those genes with a mouse and we share sixty one percent of disease causing genes with a fruit fly. Brody Brody said the remarkable thing is that despite being very far apart in evolutionary time we can still find a common signature in the genome of a common ancestor. These are preserved served because the genome of an organism that lived billions of years ago contained genes. That helped cells live and reproduce. Those same jeans are preserved in US and plants Francis added that humans likely share about one percent of their DNA with other as well. He said this is because all life that exists on earth has evolved from a single cell fell originated about one point. Six billion years ago in a sense. We're all relatives

At Trade Deadline, the Mets Keep Their Arms and Vow to Contend

"Can you believe that we got to the deadline and the mets turned out to be buyers because they sold nothing. They didn't trade syndergaard. They didn't Trae Zack Wheeler that in trade todd frazier. I guess they traded Jason Vargas yes but still the mets basically were buyers before the deadline. I don't get it Sarah. I don't get it and honestly even though people people were somewhat high on the mets entering this year. I don't think I even would have believed that if you told me that on March first hey we're going to get to the trade deadline. The mets are just GonNa get Marcus Stroman. Okay get rid of Jason Burs like I never I never would have believed that. I was pretty surprised I feel like they had some players that you know teams would've wanted. I think I even saw a rumor or about Luis avalon on twitter last night. I forget who it was saying. That teams are interested. I mean I don't understand necessarily not not doing those things and it's it's. It's just interesting. I mean now they're in this interesting situation with Zack Wheeler where I don't know that they're really even in the position where they would want to pay him the qualifying offer and if they if he does take it and if he doesn't then I'm sure they're not going to be in a position to really negotiate with what he's going to want. So that's an odd one one and I don't know I feel like they're just so many moves out there that can be made and one thing that we saw today is a lot of those kind of August I two thirty thirty first deals sort of happen today because they can't happen you know moving forward with the new way that it has this year like that Corey Dickerson trade to me seemed like a waiver kind of trade trade that we might see on August fifteenth and a previous year and is interesting with the mets didn't even attempt something like that. I mean one name that stuck out to me was John Ryan Murphy who is going going to the braves. I feel like you know he would probably be appreciably better for the mess right now. Then Wilson Ramos or Tomas Nido even if he were in a backup role you know maybe NATO's role and it was interesting to me that they didn't even come through on a on a move like that because if you are kind of claiming to go all in and then I would expect more on that side at the the very least so it's it's really an odd one to make one move and have it be like the big splash got this all going and then that's basically it. I would love to be the agent for Marcus Marcus Stroman right now because you talk about emotional leverage that he has on the mets during the wintertime. If you were to say you know what I'm looking for a contract and try to bully them into doing something because that deal was sort of the centerpiece of their whole summer kind of like Brodie van wagon in did last summer on behalf of Jacob degrom. Who is Gerald Butts? And what happens now?

The Big Story

Who is Gerald Butts? And what happens now?

"His resignation, the typical political scandal narrative swirled around Gerald butts, a political stunt up from Ottawa one of the prime minister's most trusted advisers, a longtime friend Gerald butts has resigned amid allegations the prime minister's office interfered to help Quebec engineering giant SNC loveline avoid a criminal prosecution statement butts flato denied any wrongdoing saying the allegations have become a distraction from the prime minister and the government's work. So he stepping aside except Jerry butts, isn't your typical political staffer resignation not at all as much as this move will dominate headlines all week. And of course, it indicates that the SNC level and scandal is probably going to get a lot worse before it gets better. The most interesting story from this is about a break-up. You see Justin Trudeau has never won anything without Jerry butts. And now he's got an election in eight months and butts walked away from his partner and his friend at the time. He was needed more than ever. So why? Who is the man that every insider on the hill has used as an unnamed source at one point or another how much Justin Trudeau's policy came from him. What will the prime minister of Canada do now without his right hand, man. I'm Jordan heath Rawlings. And this is the big story Holwell's is a senior writer at Maclean's. He knows more about the personal relationships at play in politics than anybody on parliament health. Paul who is jailed butts. He was until. Minister's principal secretary, which is which is a job title looking to have many meanings over time. He was the prime minister's right hand Ranya was his right hand since long before he was the prime minister he co managed the campaign in twenty fifteen. He went to McGill University Justin Trudeau in the nineties and they've been nearly inseparable ever since. I mean, I I was hearing rumors guesswork from people who the both of them better than I nearly twenty years ago. Just try to prime minister Sherry butts wants to make up and he did it and then he walked away. Yeah. He there is around town that Jerry butts doesn't have hurt in the job as much lately as he had those rumors are from before Christmas from last autumn. And so to some extent as amazing is not a huge surprise. This is not somebody who was in the middle of new adventures and was looking forward to the next grade accomplishment. There was there was a sense. That but says been a little listless and not not as deeply engaged with files as as yet been for. That's kind of interesting because the first thing that everybody went to is the timing and the relationship to the scandal you're saying that that this might have been brewing for some time. Well, it's pretty clear that the scandal has something to do with it. But it's easier to get someone to give up on a job, if they are have already in toying with the idea, you know, and and a lot of quite reasonably a lot of speculation a lot of the reaction to the announcement of his resignation was people say, well, look if he's done nothing wrong. Then why is he quit if you know if there's no fire than wildest smoke. And I think it's possible that possible we'll find out, but that the resignation was kind of an expression of to hell with this. I don't need. I you know, I made my best friend minister he's been prime minister for three years. I was in all the meetings. I was at dinner with Barack Obama off I go, you know, there's still there's still way more unanswered than. Answered questions around the sessions, he level and business. So I'm hesitant to speculate with great certainty, but that's a that's a looking supposition. What was to the best of your knowledge people around the hill. Anyway, what was their working relationship lake? How how close were they I I mean, I know they were really good friends. But but how did it work between them important decisions were made by the prime minister is chief of staff, Katie Telford and its principal secretary Gerald butts all three of them together in meetings that they would have a few times a day. And you know, sometimes the the circle would be extended is probably ten or a dozen people who would be frequent make frequent appearances at those meetings. But if they were all in the same city together and Telford or would never be absent from those big decision. They were at least as necessary to the process was the prime minister. Maybe who is he is a guy if you spent any time with them, you hang out with them. Remember the first time you met him. I don't remember the first time I met him. But I'll tell you an early extended. That a time. I spent with him was on a big maybe both in the Arctic for a week in probably two thousand eight why the hell did that happen? Because even Harper was would have the Canadian forces do annual sovereignty patrols in Arctic waters. Right. And I was interested in that as a journalist. He's coming Stephen Harper throw budget that point was the head of the World Wildlife federation for Canada, and he was interested in it for climate change. And so I asked the harbor PM. Would you put me on his boat? And when I got there Jerry was there, and so he and I spent a week on the deck of a Canadian navy boat in the art looking at icebergs, and what was he lying? What struck you about him? He he's a low T. He's not emotionally demonstrative. He is friendly to everybody he encounters. He is not nearly as sort of confrontational and abrasive in person as us on Twitter where he's very act and where. Since long before the election every night. He would cheerfully Perec journalists on on his perception of the flaws in their reporting and analysis, which is when I had a bit of a falling. But in person he seeks agreement rather than confrontation. He doesn't pull rank particularly he doesn't say, you know, look, I'm I'm Justin Trudeau in. You're not his competitive advantage in history comes to the fact that when when else these he's in the room until recently, he wasn't room with the leader with the prime minister. And so he he gets the last say, but in the moment, he doesn't he's not look looks for fights. There's been a ton of discussion since he resigned about him kind of being the man behind the curtain when it comes to Justin Trudeau. Do you have a sense of how much power he wielded there? And how many how much of of Trudeau's actions kind of came from him, or is that just kind of the typical stereotype people tend to exaggerate the roles of left tenants for people who are. Supporters or members of government. It's a way to criticize the leader with criticized leader, criticized the people around and for Ponant of the government. It is a handy way to make it look like the prime minister staffed himself up with monsters as having many times with conservative and liberal prime ministers people used to claim that Stephen Harper was we're in for a university of how profit and Tom Flanagan and then for the last seven years. Harper was prime minister was was well known that he wasn't even speaking time finding his angry. He didn't need the supposed send galley was controlling. Similarly, look, I expect that Justin Trudeau will be able to function as prime minister for the rest of this calendar year without without journal butts around, but even people in the gone, even people whose future was bound up with Justin Trudeau's continued electoral success would complain about the extent to which biggest then get made until Jerry butts got around to getting the file and and the decision. This government is not a super fast that decision. And since the beginning large part of perceived reason for that is that Jerry butts and or Tito for half to personally find off on every important decision. And so there was just this huge bottleneck. It was not a discentralising when he came to power Justin Trudeau announced that cabinet government cabinet is none other words ministers have power to make their own decisions. Everything I hear says that hasn't been true you've covered a lot of governments. Do you have a sense of how rare it is for it to be structured that way and decisions to made like that? It is everyone complains about excessive power in in five ministries EM Brodie who was chief of staff to Stephen Harper for a while. We're really interesting book that outlines all the reasons why that's kinda needs to be the case. Why important decisions have to go through the? But I mean, there could be six or eight people who make those decisions the definition of what is the decision. So important that it has to go through the pm couldn't does change from government to government and the combination of very elevated executive decision. Making power in the hands of prime ministers to principal tenants, and the very close personal relationship. It's not unprecedented. But it's very it's very novel. I mean chief of staff John tape phone after back city Christian and Peltier went to seize up together, you know, in the stone age, and so there there have been cases where personal relationship translates to a functional relationship in office. But Harper was not buddies with any of his chief of staff, so if a bit of a pendulum, and and and it can it can go both ways. Do we have a sense yet

Agent says New York Mets should trade Jacob deGrom if not interested in long-term deal

"The course of the program but don't fret we will be back with you mahayana with wherewithal all week as a matter of fact at one pm eastern for the man the legend himself so we are just kicking the week off on a high note we didn't get into baseball much today but we will fact that they're all star break it's not gonna stop us from talking about it because you gotta love the game it's america's pastime homerun derby tonight tomorrow he got the game over at nationals park one of the big names which is being thrown about out in an ticipant of the july thirty first trade deadline and he's also a guy you'll see on the field that nationals park tomorrow jacob degrom in the new york mets who's had his good season in terms of starting pitching is any in baseball this year is certainly gonna make a good run at the cy young award in the nfl probably has every right to gripe about not getting joe's into start the all star game even though they gave it a max scherzer but he's the hometown guy there in dc but grammas having phenomenal phenomenal season and you know his name has been tied into trade talks as to whether the mets who are looking to probably rebuild to a certain degree again and that's probably one of their more marketable assets that they get a lot in return for and maybe inject some youth and samatha lettuces them into a team which can certainly use it given the injuries in the age and the underperforming that they've had so far this year brodie van wagon who is the asian for jacob degrom spoke to ken rosenthal fox sports and the athletes and had this to say we have discussed jacobs future with the mets at length jacob is expressed interest in exploring a term partnership that would keep him in a mets uniform for years to come if the mets don't share the same interest we believe their best course of action is to seriously consider trade opportunities now the initia the inertia of current situation could complicate jacobs relationship with the club and creates an atmosphere of in decision bottom line is and i don't know if this is necessarily coming from the ground himself this is just agent speak more than anything else and by the way brodie van wagon c n a or ca they have done contracts with the mets brodie van wagon represents yowen assessments so they've been able to broker deals with him in the past and the mets have been a little reluctant to sign jacob degrom he's right about that but jacob degrom is a starting pitcher who is thirty years of age remember because he didn't come up until he was twenty six and even though is extremely talented in one of the best pitchers in the game the mets probably look at it from the standpoint of all right he's arbitration eligible for a couple more years so he's not like he's a free agent at the end of this season is still have under control for two more seasons after this then he becomes a free agent after two thousand twenty mets may figure you know what right now is we're trying to figure out which direction we're going to go as a franchise at least if we have them under our control we'd rather go to arbitration and give them a hefty raise for year as opposed to maybe signed him to a long term contract at the end of the day the mets are not trading jacob degrom okay everything that i've heard and everything that has been told to me is that they have cooled on moving either the grammar noah syndergaard they're shifting their focus maybe down to other pitchers like stephen matt sack wheeler to maybe move on from but the other thing that i counted with is if you also then in your next breath say that you think you can contend again in two thousand and nineteen with some better luck better health than why would you look to trade these guys you should be building around your starting pitching because starting pitching has actually been something that the mets have been pretty good at this year i e except for jason vargas who was a disaster as a free agent signing and still is as apparently no guarantee to get a spot back in.
