"To get something for James van riemsdyk something. Like, Calvin Kremlin, Vegas school of the nights with $3 million in cap space based on other haggling and the fact that stone probably isn't coming back before the playoffs. But again, maybe this is an indictment of what other hockey minds see or better yet don't see in JVR, but are you at all surprised somebody didn't step up and say, here's a 5th round pick and yeah, you got to retain some salary, but we're willing to take a bit of a risk here on this player. I am surprised, but I'm also surprised that because I do think Philly's stated they're in like a full rebuild half to me. Yeah. But I want to say, you know, give a drawn tortorella's comments in that letter a couple of weeks ago. We're nowhere near where we need to be. There's going to be change and however, the letter was stated on error phrasing is that anything is something, because now you're then reinstate is going to leave, you're going to get nothing. Well, leave or whenever wherever he's going to sign, it's not going to be in Philadelphia. And so there's an asset going, at some point, at some point do you not have to go anything is better than not getting anything in July. That's what's going to happen. Given the state of where they are, that's not the same for every player and every team. But there are a long way to go there. For sure. Agreed. All right, why don't we wrap up this version of headlines in a special NHL trade deadline recap episode with the Vancouver Canucks. And I'm going to bring it up only as a point of an example. On old occasion, especially around trade environments like this, we report on scenarios, right? And discussions that happen. And particularly on a day where we knew it was going to be relatively slower. So you come in armed with information, right? I mean, in the day we're on the air for 8, 9 hours, we got to talk about stuff. So I knew that there had been ongoing discussions between the Vancouver Canucks and the Pittsburgh penguins about JT Miller, right? And constant media speculation. And while they're going to be a connection with Brock besser, all of that, there was limited interest in Brock besser. And maybe that changes in the summer. Who knows? But man that market gets whipped up in a hurry and, you know, from the reporting of others in Pittsburgh and around the National Hockey League, further to my reporting on the discussions at Vancouver was having the Pittsburgh century null. I mean, it just seemed to snowball into something and at the end of the day, it turns into nothing because the Canucks weren't able to find the right fit for either player, but it makes it pretty clear or at least it does to me that because of the cap issues of the Vancouver products continued to wrestle with that one or potentially both of these guys are likely going to get dealt with in the summer. That seems to make the most sense to me. Well, you sure as hell know more than me. Yeah. That's for sure. JT Miller's contract. I believe the no trade kicks in July 1st. Yes. So if it's happening, everybody holds this trade deadline like it's

"Mostly seeming to be coming out of Vancouver that they're talking to the Canucks, either JT Miller or Brock besser, they're going to take one of them off their hands. That seems like the approach that's why they're clearing all this money and it feels like from penguins fans. They're just kind of collective gasp or sort of preparation for this sort of worst case scenario where they're like, oh my God, this is going to be a disaster no matter what we do. And then instead, last night, on Wednesday evening, instead of that, somehow, in my opinion, the region even worse alternative in taking Michael grandland and the 5 million he's owed over the next two seasons. Or a second rounder to the national predators. And so does that sum up about kind of the sequence of events over the past week or so in terms of all the financials and all the personal moves they made? Yeah, and there's an added layer into that. We're a long with the Vancouver rumors. There was also a lot of talk in Pittsburgh that they were potentially on Jacob Chitra from Arizona and the talk was that Mike Sullivan really wanted him in Ron hextall was kind of hesitant to pay the price that Arizona was asking for. There was some talk and it was like two second round picks, a bunch of stuff. And then he ends up hours before the grandland trade. He ends up going to Ottawa for one first round pick and two second round picks and it's just like, what's going on? And then I almost think they would have been better off doing one of the Vancouver trades because as bad as those contracts are, at least like you can make an argument that Miller better might actually solve some of their problems. The gremlins trade is so impressively bad because he solves none of their problems. It's just an unbelievable sequence of events. It is. I mean, I also forgot to mention there that at some point in that sequence, they did have the legally had to get rid of money to make space for activating Jan rudha off injured reserve who has been their 5th or 6th most frequently used defenseman this season and they gave him a three year 2.75 million average annual salary contract this past summer as well. So there's also that added wrinkle to this. The gremlin thing is so it's honestly baffling to me because I'd be hard pressed I think Adam to come up with a player that sort of embodies what the penguins need less than him. You know what I mean? Yeah, he's 31. He's in the first percentile of defensive impact that even strength. He's got absolutely zero shot making ability and at this point of his career, quite frankly, has like no willingness or appetite to even try shooting.

Pettersson scores in shootout, lifts Canucks past Hurricanes
"The Canucks salvage the finale of a 5 game road trip by defeating the hurricanes four three. Elias pettersson scored on the final shootout attempt, ending Vancouver's four game losing streak. Ethan there, JT Miller and Brock besser scored in regulation, with bass or tying it with 17 seconds remaining in the third. It stopped 29 shots. She looked at it in the first period and you weren't involved. You probably think it would be a different outcome, but credits are a group we hung in there. Sebastian aho gave Carolina a three two lead with two 52 left in the third after the cane squandered a two goal lead at home for the second time in a week. I'm Dave ferry.

"That I have now, because I would have been, I would have been less stressed. I would have been less on top of things. They've got to figure a lot of the stuff out themselves. And I can tell like my 16 year old, I can tell Riley, you should be training. You should be doing this unless the love for doing that comes from him. It doesn't matter. He's got to find the love in the sport. I have to, I would love to go back and just ease off a little bit. For sure. And I would say this with all parents and I'm sure it's a very common thing, but remember why you're there. Remember why you're at the game. You're at the game because your child wants to be there. If you pay for extra skating lessons, because your child wants it, it doesn't mean that they're going to turn into Connor McDavid. No. If they want it and you can provide it, then you provide it. If your son or daughter wants skills coach for soccer and they've got it in their heart to go do the work, that's all you get from it. You get their enjoyment out of it. You don't do it because you think, oh, maybe one day at the end of the day, there's a payoff for all of this. Their childhood support their childhood. Well said, back to Instagram and again, the spirit of the season from dawn of Hamilton, right? In the Christmas spirit, what are your favorite Christmas traditions? We always have a big Christmas dinner on Christmas Eve, actually. We have a Christmas brunch cami loves cooking Christmas brunch and it's got all kinds of stuff like that we might not normally have. And I just, I just love it. I love seeing how happy she is when she makes it. Because she just like, first of all, I don't know that I can accurately describe what the kitchen looks like when it's finished, but oh man, it's so good. So we have that. We also have, I think the last decade, we've had the elf on the shelf. Oh, nice. And we really, we really get a kick out of that. Moving it around and hiding the elf and everybody trying to find it and I don't know if you've seen and I believe it's on Instagram. And I think it's out of the UK, but this little guy wakes up in the morning. And he's got somebody who's taking a marker and drawn goggles on his face and the mustache and everything else. And beside his bed is the elf on the shelf holding a pen. And a little guy is so bent because this elf in his mind has done this to it is sleep. So I just get a kick out of that because unfortunately, or fortunately, I guess, depends on how you look at Holly and I didn't get we never experienced the alpha to shelf. You know, Katie and mason are 23, almost 24 and 21. Yeah, you know what's going to happen though drinks? When they find their partners and they have their kids, there they go. There's the elf on the shelf of their tradition. I can't wait to get a part of that. Yeah, it's the best. I will say this about Christmas traditions. Yeah. When we were growing up, nobody ever beat the Ferraro's with their Christmas lights up, ever. Really dad was on it like that? Yeah, because he put them up one year and they stayed up for about 11. Straight. Right through the summer. Multicolored too? Multi colors. We'd go with dad. Why should we take the lights down? Nah, then we just got to put them back up. So I got stung by the company that put up our Christmas lights. Yeah, you mentioned that. Yeah, yeah. So they're clear. I think I'm just going to leave them up there. Just in Ferraro tradition. I'm leaving them up there. You can't barely see them. They're clear lights. And not turn them on. Dregs, and then next November, you can say to your buddies when they come over. See, I am again. First up with the lights. On it. Yeah. So Brian mudra, I don't know if you've noticed or not, but he's a constant contributor to ask grand Drake's ending. What is money got now? Yeah. More time with no golf, by the way. Well, his question is, does dregs like old fashions do you it? The spelling is ridiculous. He spelled completely incorrectly. No, I don't. And nor do I like manhattans in my reason is, and this is just going to sound like a ridiculously shameless plug, right? When you've got the quality of whisky that we're furnished with, you don't mix it with the nonsense, right? So I can appreciate the old school people out there like the old fashioned, all of that. So there you go, muddy. He sends in a question like every two weeks. So I think we should take a couple of hockey questions. What do you got there? What do you got? Well, let me just peruse here. There were one or two that I thought were interesting. You know, we haven't talked about the Vancouver Canucks in a bit. And boy, for the first 15, 20 games, we talked about the Vancouver Canucks on The Rain drags podcast a lot. So we know that besser was like they'd be traded horvat likely to be traded. Maybe somebody sees a fit entire Myers. And I mean, we know they're open for business. So put your GM cap on here for a moment. What would you see as Brock besser's value in a trade? And after you answer, I'm going to just kind of round it out a little bit because I have a thought on this as well. Well, you got to remember two years left on his contract. Yeah. Which will bring the price down because it seems like everybody's looking for one year or expiring or that type of thing. I don't think it's a huge return. I think it's a difficult contract to make fit. Unless he can find a way to start scoring again. At the pace that he was scoring prior to getting hurt. That to me is the biggest challenge. So when I say not, you know, I'm not, it's not a first round pick. It's a higher end prospect or second round pick. Okay. That question from Canucks 5. And I'm actually going to lump in the next one, which is am I far off from Twitter at, what's that? Am I far off or no? Or what do you think? No, I don't think you're far off, but I'm going to lump. I'm going to lump in this next question from Twitter from at P dog 57 to explain because he's asking which of the Canadian teams are most likely to make the biggest splash by trade. And I mean, it seems pretty obvious. I mean, let's see what mercury all does. But Vancouver is the most in play here. So I think it's going to be Vancouver. I think your assessment of what the return on bester is, is fairly accurate, but I think there'll be some flexibility there, depending on what you get back for bull horvat and maybe some of the other pieces. You know what the needs are or what the wants are. They want a young center, right? They want to a young right shot defenseman. They need to clear off some cap space. I feel like they could be a little bit more flexible with besser and take an NHL player back. If it was the right NHL player, young NHL player, and they shaved some of the cap hit off by moving out vessel. So I think that there is some flexibility, but as a one off, if it's better going out and you feel like you've got to shave the space elsewhere, maybe simply by moving orbat, then and the 6 million that you probably going to have to shed and moving out Tyler Myers, then I think that they can probably get through that way. What else have we got here? So many different ways we can go. Oh, all right. Well, let's stay with Canada for a moment. Are the oilers in trouble ray. This is from at Daryl 43, or do we think that they're going to be okay once Vander Cain comes back and hopefully they're goaltending stabilizes? Well, I'm almost certain the oilers made the conference final last year. So with that becomes this expectation that there's not going to be a dip that it's going to be continued growth, which generally doesn't happen. Yeah. They were fine cocaine got hurt. They miss Cain on several levels. If you look at the forward group, Cain was gone, Yamamoto, I think it's got three goals. This year. And was injured for a good part of it. Those are those are two of their top 6 forwards. Or top 7, I guess. I think they miss McLeod when he's been out. I do think they need to add another defenseman. Are they okay, man,

"Yeah. I gotta go to bed. Yeah. And so I don't even text kami that I'm going to bed because she's at the game. It's four nothing. She does, she's not going to answer me anyway. So I just go to sleep. So phone rings 1230 local time here. And in the morning. And she's like, oh, sorry, you're out. And I'm like, yeah, I'm sleep. I said, I didn't want to text you. I mean, the game's going crappy and she's like, yeah, we won. And I'm like, what do you mean you want? It was four zero. She's like, she goes, there were goals. And all over the place. So I didn't even know the score. Till this morning because I said, oh, I'll talk to you in the morning. You know, I roll over and I'm like, they won. What the hell is going on? Isn't that kind of the way the league is now? It is. There's nothing that for nothing is over. The game's over. I'm in Dallas, of course, as I mentioned, they're losing Minnesota 5 one the other day in the third period. So I turned the game off, and I'm like, yeah, I'll scan through the rest of it because I've got the game. I want to see. And then I check my phone. It's 5 5. In the third period, it's really unbelievable. So I didn't even see the last half of the Canucks game. I was like, man, this thing is over, so. Yeah, I mean, you had the Seattle LA game recently. Was that 9 8? We've had some bizarre ones. Patterson with the overtime winner. So let's see, you know, sometimes not to read too much into a game, but the Canucks collectively in their last handful, at least shown the pulse and the ability to win some games. And the fact that they stormed back in this one, we'll see what direction it takes and let a wild game as we've described, but the undercard has, of course, rock bester and the Vancouver Canucks searching for trade. And I was corrected on the weekend and following up on this because, you know, when it was first reported by Elliott Friedman on Saturday, I'm like, well, nobody was surprised, but it's interesting, right? Because you're like, okay. And not to misrepresent Elliot said, it's just that normally you've got a situation like that. Where it's the player that says, okay, I've had enough or the team that says, you know, we're not going in the direction we would like. We'd like the opportunity to trade you. How do you feel about this? In fact, it's both. Both the team and Brock besser feel like it's a good thing to explore, change for Brock besser. Won't be easy from either side because, you know, he still has some term left on his deal at what, 6 and a half, 6, 6. 6 up there. And if your Patrick galvin, you probably feel like best is going to be moved and he's young enough and has enough talent, he could pop 2025, right? I mean, I think he will. Yeah, I mean, when I look at besser, I think of a guy that can score and will score. The pace of the game is always going to be a challenge for him. And that's not, that's not a secret anywhere. When I look at to explore this, like a Columbus moved on from all over Björk strand in the summer. And that was a couple of draft picks. He had 28 goals last year. But they were going to bring a Johnny good role. They had line a and that cap clear a little bit of money. And so in the way the game is, fans look, I think, for the most part, and lots of us media too, I guess, look at the immediacy, but if the Canucks like Kuzma, they get a sign him eventually. Yeah, right? And so there's only so many dollars to go around. And pretty clearly, the team needs needs a brush up, right? They've been very clear about that. So fasters may be the first of these chips that and players that you look at and go can we can we make a deal? Is there something there? I don't even know. But that's, I guess what Ben hankinson is agent gets involved with and they start working on scenarios, maybe somebody pieces something together that works for both sides. Well, and look, always makes big chuckle when media start tweeting out pictures of the scout list at certain games, right? It starts like 5 games in, where, guess some people are just amused or intrigued by the number of teams that scout other teams game. It's what pro scouting does. That's what they do. But that game last night would have been must go to. I would think for any club that's in the market for something, especially a forward, right? Because we know Montreal has, you know, a few intriguing possibilities on the trade front. And you throw a name like Brock Lesnar into the equation and I would expect that's going to gain some interest. Okay, so here's another part for that too, is that you mentioned Montreal and their backlog of forwards. You mentioned besser, St. Louis is now fallen off the other side of the hill. They started great. They fell down. They got great. They fell down, eventually they're going to have to make some decisions on people that are going to be unrestricted free agents at the end of the year. Older guys, I think they got 11 guys that are in the last year of their contract. So pretty soon what seems like, oh yeah, our team, our fans, can see a trade in the future, the market gets clogged. And the acquiring team is like, I'll talk to you. I'll talk to you and I'll make the best deal that I can because more forwards in this case start to show up as available. Well, I'm going to throw one more naming of the mix and we've talked about this guy. A bunch of times to this point of season four going back to season three, and that's Jeep chicken, and the reason I mentioned them is just a small update, right? We can see how well he's playing these producing. So he looks to be in good health, but my understanding is there's a blitz going on this week. And what that means is that the agent involved the Arizona coyotes are one more time circling around to say, okay, boys, let's reset. Where are you on your level of so does that to you, Drake's? Does that say, okay, this is coming to a head. Is that what that means? The only because and I'll pinpoint one team, and I don't look. I mean, the Ottawa senators have been linked to Jake chucker and for months. If not longer in the ab made the move, and it's because the ask is prohibitive. I mean, Billy Armstrong is still stuck on two first round graphics, having to be part of it. And then a prospect, and then you know you're taking back a contract, at least, to offset a little bit, right? But now Artem zub is gone for probably a month. You know, he took a puck in the face with a fractured jaw. We saw how poorly the Sens played without Artem zub when he was injured previously, they just got Shabbat back. Like, and now we're 25 plus games into the regular season two, right? So it does feel like there's a higher level of urgency here and you've got the sale of the Sens looming. There's no way that Pierre Dorian isn't feeling the pressure. To get this team back to drive them upwards, they're playing a bit better, but maybe he's worried about his job with new ownership looming. I mean, that would be natural, right? Sure. So how would you know what the new guy is going to do? You wouldn't exactly, exactly. Here's the father. Drake, here's a thought on that. Is what about if your Ottawa and they've got some young prospects that they really like a lot. Yeah?

"Again, I don't think this is who they're going to take, but we're here to hear what we think. And so, you know, I've talked about a couple of guys that I said maybe my favorite players in the class. Here's the last one that I'll say that about and it's Liam over and I love this player. So he is, he played on deer garden, the J 20 and up in the SHL this year with liqueur Mackie with no Austin with Kelly Delia. All these guys are going to be first to honor this year. He wasn't the fastest or most skilled player on his junior team. Did and stop him from leading them in goals and points and captain Sweden at the U 18s and playing 25 games in the SHL and fitting in whatever role, whatever task is handed to him. That's what he'll do for you. So when he was in the SHL, it was like, hey, you're going to play on the third line of fourth line. We want you to get pucks in deep, go in there, bang, fort Jack, keep possession. Great. I'll go do that. You know, you're playing in the J 20. We want you to just annihilate guys at 5 on 5 and score like crazy. Great. I can do that like 85% of his goals in the J 20 this year were even strength for polls. I love that from a player who went above a gold per game because you think that they're going to be getting boosted on some elite power play. Well, that's not how we had to run. He can finish from the outside, he can finish from the inside. Really great hands. This guy gives me Brock besser vibes. Like crazy with better skating. I know some people have talked about Timo Meyer. I think that that's a fair comp as well. Especially if he goes to San Jose here. I love this player. I think he's going to be kind of the Swiss Army knife that you can put them as your first line winger. You can put them as your third line when you're on the other side. He can do he can kill penalties in power play, drive play. He never constantly has a pumpkin. I think manually track games through instant there. He dumped the puck in three times the entire season across all leagues and tournaments, and he dumped it out of his own zone once. This guy loves to maintain possession or make a smart pass. So for me, I love Liam ogren. I think that he's probably going to be going in the mid teens. But for me, I like him a lot more than that. I've got from 8 on my board. Fascinating combination of three prospects on the same team though, too, right? Because they all have such different skill sets. For front scouting perspective, I made it a little bit easier for.

"This was these guys didn't move, like Brock besser, Conor Garland. They didn't go anywhere. So what are you going to do? And tell my Charlotte same thing like, are you going to be like, are you going to physically grab his hand as he signs the contract? Like, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. You're coming with us. The other thing about the bruins fans wanting offense is kind of like, remember when you were little on Christmas and you would just want more things to open. You didn't care what the gift was. You just wanted more things, right? You just wanted other stuff. And it feels like that was kind of the deal with this, because again, I like Andrew cop on a team that, again, and I've said this to you before, like Andrew cop to me was a guy that you would do if you needed to solidify your third line, right? Like if you just getting a depth piece, that's Andrew cop. That's Andrew cop. And to me, you just didn't, again, as you said, he doesn't put you over the top. Andrew, doesn't push you over the top. It's literally even like Josh Brown, who, again, fills a need, right? Like in terms of added depth, the guy that could be useful in the playoffs. He's purchased another ten, more or less. I don't think he's a guy that's going to shift the fortunes in your favor over playoff run. Good to have him, but I think one like the bruins made that trade. People were just naturally excited. Like, oh, it's a new guy. Holy shit. He beats the shit out of people. Like, this is great, right? Like, oh my God, that's the guy who flattened Frederick in that one game in November. So definitely from what you said, even if they acquired a guy like who else got moved like one of these other guys wouldn't be a top 6 guy, but people would be like, well, it's something..

"Especially throughout all this and all the talk and all the speculation that's out there. I mean, he's voiced it. He's saying that it's a lot for us to take in and we've got to hear this crap every day and I get it. It's not easy. But I think they want to hold on to him. I think they're trying to figure out a way to keep them long term. They'll figure it out in the summer. There's no rush. 'cause he's got another year on his deal, but I think him Brock besser are the two guys that are out there in terms of the talk. I think they want to hold on to these guys. I think Conor Garland is the guy that they're trying to move. Or a more willing to move, I should say. And I think that's where the centerpiece is around with Pittsburgh. Why so quickly on the Garland has it not worked out there? He's been solid. I just think it's a different mentality. You know, bending in that cruise out. So now you've got Rutherford and Alvin. I just think those guys, they have a different mindset for how this team is going to be shaped. And do you want this guy, if he's not going to connect on your top 6, you want that kind of player at that money on your third line. Doesn't sound like they want that. It may not happen by the deadline. And this is the one that I hope happens quite frankly because it's going to be a bigger hockey type trade. And that always slices things up, but I think that's more likely to happen in the summer. I look over to Philly in the disappointment there this year and everyone was like, oh, risk the line and available. And now all of a sudden he re signs and provosts playing the worst talking of his career. What's going on in family besides Giroux? They look at it all options. Yeah, they are. I mean, you've got Justin Braun, that's another guy, very likely getting moved. I would probably say he is. And that's a guy that is up there. I think he's about 35, but I mean, there are teams that definitely value what he brings to the table. But I mean, look, if they get something creative going with Travis connecting and they can make a bigger type of deal, like we were talking like Vancouver Pittsburgh that kind of arrangement if it's a talent for talent swap and maybe you add a few things in there. I think they're open to that possibility. They almost traded him in the summer. So, and games have been poking around again. So I could see that happening. Travis sanheim is playing great this year, but.

"I think he had another good game recently. I think afterwards Bruce Bruce wrote was like, yeah, he's the leader, one of the leaders of this team, we want to have him here. So I could see them keeping him. And if Vancouver can't get it together next year and they fall off again, then you deal. He's still under contract for a year. So I don't think Miller is getting moved. So besser is the first guy they've prioritized. Yeah, it makes sense because you're probably moving to brass, or at least they want to, and you define someone to slot in there on that top line. But I think for besser, I guess we can look probably first at the actual production. I think he's got 33 points on the year, not too bad. However, out of those 33 points, 13 of them were at a 5 on 5 play. And this is granted a few days ago. So he might have had a game or two since then, but 33 is 34 at this point. Not drastic. But out of those 33 points, 13 of them came at 5 on 5 play. Which is not great. If you looked at at the time, I posted this story on Monday, 13 5 and 5 points. What I think be 11th on the bruins right now, which is not great. That's good. Guys like, I think de brusca is 19 5 one 5 points. Craig Smith is 18. Matt grizzly has more 5 one 5 points. Burning Carlo has ten, which having three more than that is not great. And I believe Curtis Lazar has 12. So Brock besser top 6 forward, it has one more 5 and 5 point in Curtis holes are. Again, you could make the argument that you put better with birds on a Martian, probably evens out. He'll get a spike in production. True, but he also he's been a top 6 guy for Vancouver for a couple of years now. And it's not like he's had random guys up there of whether it's Miller, pedersen, all those guys. They've got talent on that on that Vancouver team. So the 5 O 5 productions pretty worrisome in terms of that. But then I think you have to look at that contract. And the cap flexibility and what have you, because we've talked about it before with Jake de brusque, why some teams probably hesitant to trade for him, even though his baseline productions there. It's that contract, whether it's the $4.4 million qualifying offer or just the headache of acquiring this guy with up and down production having to work on whatever that new contract is..

"Just again, like, and Riley's not a good defensive guy anyway, too. You're well aware of what you're getting with him. So he's not the guy you build your decor around. Yeah, I mean, again, that would be maybe I'm wrong about this, but I think I'm right. That would be like if you built your defense around like Tori kruk. And again, krug might even be a little bit better defensively. And again, I think crew was also as much better defensive system here. But again, I like Riley leading your D not really, no. And again, I look at that team and the way they're built and it just goes to show you that you actually do need to invest defensemen. Is a thing you need to do. And that's why I wouldn't surprise me. I don't know their cap situation at the top of my head, but I believe muzzin is still on IR, correct? Yeah. I believe there are a range. Yes, so I would not be surprised to see them add another defenseman or just another average defenseman at the deadline who they are going to pipe up all the media up there is going to say that, you know, Mark Giordano is still a top pairing left shot defenseman or John klingberg. Lindholm, that was the one that we said they were going to get. And he was going to come to the savior up in Toronto. So would you be surprised to see the bruins pass them? That would probably put them in range to play Florida or Tampa in the first round, which doesn't really help. I don't think that really helps your playoff positioning at all. But hey, the higher I get the higher yet, maybe the better. Again, I said my big prediction was you're going to upset Florida in the first round. I would be surprised to see that. And so if it gets you to play Florida, great. Like I just think if they Tampa, you're done. And there's nothing you can really do. So I would much whatever helps you get to Florida. You find a way to do, because again, the track record on Tampa is just too big. And then with Toronto, playing you in the first round. I don't think I still don't think they want to play you in the first round, just given the track record. But anyways, that is this week's bruins beat. Connor, what before you go, what would you like to plug? What kind of people look forward to you over at Boston sports journal? Yeah, we'll have plenty of coverage leading up to the trade deadline. We had another story. We dropped today, exploring Brock besser trade and why I thought there should be a buyer beware tag for a guy like him, even though he's, seems like it makes a lot of sense as a potential 30 goal guy. Yeah, yeah, exactly. Deeper into his stats. A little cost for concern there. So we'll do a couple more of those breakdowns. I'm sure we'll probably explore Giroux as a possibility possibility later this week, so all that stuff will be over at Boston for watch journal dot com. So subscribe over at BSA, want to follow me on Twitter. You can do that at Connor Ryan underscore in 93. Go do all that for selling this media. I'm embarrassed, you burns B listeners, have a great rest. Of your week. Don't be wasting. Eggs waste. Wasteland.

"To get moved. In my opinion, I think that we've still got waiting to do before he gets moved. I could be totally wrong. I really don't think they're in a rush, but I just can't believe they're playing in. I can't wait until Jake to bruss gets traded Tuesday morning after the right before the right after the straps. I can not wait for that. You'll have to cut this entire thing. Yeah, I have to re-record this, but I agree. I don't think it's happening anytime soon. And it is bizarre to see him out there. It was cool, I guess to see him score with his dad, broadcast the game. That's worth it. But again, it's a weird situation to see him out there when it's like he clearly doesn't want to be there and you know we can get into whether or not that's valid. I mean, I think it kind of is, but he also has had effort issues in the past. But it is an odd thing out there. And I'm interested to hear your take on this because you have not been on since the debras news broke. It's kind of a debate of is he a one for one guy who you trade just for. It's probably gonna be for struggling winger or struggling player or a younger players Elliot Friedman reported. Or do you package him? Do you find a way to put him with a prospect and a draft pick or whatever to get something better? Let's say you did the brusque. I could be way off here because I'm not the best at trade proposals. But if you did like debrusk a second and like a prospect for like Brock besser, right? Would you rather do that or would you rather do the one for one? Probably a bigger package because it would depend on who the one for one is. Like, I I'm trying to think of one of the guys who was kicked around with kids like the idea that had been sitting around for a while that is obviously not applicable anymore was Jake for tannin before he ended up rightfully suspended. But that was somebody that I had no interest in if I from a brewing standpoint because how much of a reclamation project do you really want to take on? And the bruins have a habit of really stockpiling assets. And this guy's untouchable. That guy's untouchable. And there's a certain level of, well, if you can use a player in a brush that actually wants to be out and spin it into something where you have to spend a little more, but you get more of a proven commodity if it is a blockbuster or a hurdle. It would take more than what your proposal was. But like somebody oh yeah..

"And we can debate whether or not they should be keep on moving sacrificing draft capital, but if the brass is one piece of a bigger puzzle that gets you a let me take your pick right and hurdle JT Miller or something like that, which I would significantly help your team both right now and in the years going forward you got a legit center. Maybe that's kind of the angle they take, but again, it's tough to find the right fit and what you want to do when also the fact that your roster is pretty much stuck in neutral right now. You can't make much moves. But I wouldn't be surprised if they're looking at maybe some of the bigger picture moves as opposed to a mason Appleton or like a loss in Krauss or something like that. It's an early deadline type move, right? Like it's kind of getting a head start on the deadline. And I agree with you. If they trade in one for one, I don't think you're getting much. I have no need for mason Appleton or Lawson Krause or one of these guys who, as you said in Ryan strobe, a project type guy. And maybe they could find their game here, but what reason would you think they would find their game here? How many forwards have left here who didn't find their game here? Heine de brus Björk. Toronto. I'm definitely missing people. Guys even before Cass and JFK and spoon are like all these guys, they have trouble with these fringe top 6 forwards and making them into something. So what reason would you have to believe that mason Appleton comes here and becomes a second line winger or a steady third line presence? So to me, it's the package move. And I think the only way I like the deal if it's one for one realistically is if it's for a right shot defenseman because you need some depth on that right side on D so if you can get a right shot defensive for de brusk straight up, I don't hate that. I'm fine with that. It depends obviously who the right shot defenseman is, and that's kind of the thing. Who is it going to be? They're not just trading defensemen around the NHL. So yeah, I mean, the package move. You know, if you did, you know, dubrovka second and maybe a prospect for Miller or Brock besser. Investors kind of been trade rumors forever around him. But he was pretty consistent for a few years. So maybe he's a guy you get. I wouldn't hate that. And that makes you better because again, this team isn't scoring at all. Like, isn't scoring. You desperately need another top 6 weapon. And again, especially for whether it's a galaxy JT Miller, how much hurdle, I think you've seen now what you just really need in terms of having more strength down the middle, just not only the domino effect of having another guy that could maybe draw more play out of Taylor hall because I think you saw in that game on Tuesday, granted, prudence didn't score 5 and 5 goal, but Taylor hall with Patrice bergeron and David Paulson arc looked pretty good. Again, most guys look pretty good when you're with those two other guys, but you put them with elite level talent, I think it drives the best side of Taylor house game now. Is JT Miller like an elite talent? He's pretty damn good. Like same with too much hurtle..

"How about the Patriots? How about the Patriots? What a team. Oh, they're obviously getting all the press as they should. A cheese Mac Jones man. My goodness. That guy can also Boston sweep on Sunday Night, wasn't it? Celtics burns patriots. Yes, and the revs did not play. I always gotta mention the revs because now the revs are like legit, so I give my respect. They did not play, though I don't think. Because Matt Turner was, I think at the Patriots game. So. But yeah, it was a sweep. This is sweet. Need more of those around here. That's for sure. Yes. Anyways, the Canucks, as I mentioned, have a lot of pieces who could potentially be on the move. That's a team that could just be selling everything and everybody that they can potentially get things for at the deadline. And there's some pieces there, right? Brock besser could potentially maybe be on the move. There's some other names over there. Is it Tyler Mott? He's a bottom 6 guy. I don't think the person really need him, because they got enough bottom 6 guys to think of ship. But at the end of the day, I do think that the connects have some pieces and it got me thinking, you know, who could the bruins maybe take from the Canucks? Who could be some guys that burns might could get, right? You know, maybe a top 6 four, whatnot. Connor Garland, by the way, love Conor Garland wanted him when he was with Arizona, but now he signed a new deal with them, so I don't know if that's really going to pan out. But maybe go back to one thing, Marina, and that is. Does this team have what it takes? To trade for legitimate pieces, right? And I think too often we look at guys like, oh, just flip to breast. What is de brusque getting you right now? What is Eric hall at getting you? What is Jack said nika getting you? And I just keep going back to this point of Marina. Do they have anything that they can trade that has any value? I mean it's Slim Pickens, right? It's gotta be picks because they don't really have a lot going on in the talent pool. That's not to say like the Providence ruins are bad. It's just ruins are pretty far behind in that area. Oh breaking news. Brad Marsha and just has been suspended for three games or sleep footing Vancouver's all over at the Morrison. Three games. That's because his name is Brad marchand. That's a 100% 'cause his name is Brad Martian. His biggest investment suspended. No, okay. You're fine. And the Martian hit was more of like, he didn't go in with the sleuth. You know what I mean? It kind of came up at the end. That was my issue with it. If you're not going to suspend PK subban for what he's done, how is this anything? So maybe games. I've been curious the theory that maybe it has something to do with the canal and stuff. Depending on what Marshall said, so maybe, you know, this is kind of a way of justifying it. It's like when someone gets it's like when someone is to get fired from work, but instead they say like, oh, you took a leave apps. She's on vacation. They'll be back soon. We gained. Three games. That's ridiculous. I think that is way too much. I thought this would be a fine..

"The nhl was was tweet. Goes like on a slider right so you started to see okay. If he's still in the ahl in year three of this contract he's gonna get paid a ton of money because right. They didn't expect him to be there. They expected him to be on the kings roster and now this season i think it's been pretty clear from the coaching staff and from anybody who talk about it that the expectation certainly is that this season cal peterson. We'll play more than fifty percent of the gangs to todd. Mclellan's point you still need to very good goalies. Donner the days where you would have. One goalie plays seventy two games and obviously john quick is incredibly capable. Excuse me jonathan quick. The most important player in kings history still incredibly capable of giving you a strong minutes and winning you big game. so we're not. We're not declaring anybody You know the overwhelming starter in net. But but this is the year. There are a few things that have to happen this year. And one of them is that cal. Peterson has to quote arrive. Asti demonstrate his ability to not only play more than fifty percent of the games as he did last season but play them convincingly effectively. And i am hesitant to say that. I expect the team to make the playoffs. Because they're too many things out of their control that would have to happen in order for them to make the playoffs. And i don't like lumping responsibility. Our expectations on people or organizations for things that are out of their control. But i think the sort of the sort of settling point i have come to is if a month before the trade deadline. They're still conversation about what kind of team the kings are are they buyers are they sellers which are overly simplistic ex. You know terms but if a month out from the trading deadline the the fate of the king season is not decided. That's what i'm looking for. Because we have no idea how. Good seattle's gonna be vancouver and calgary you could tell me they're gonna win the division you can tell me they're gonna finish last either way. I wouldn't be terribly surprised. There are so many different variables in both of those teams. That's three different teams in division that everybody already expects vegas in edmonton to finish one two in and i think the consensus is that the central visual have five teams. Make the playoffs in the political f. Three although that's certainly not written in stone the point is there too many things to go right or wrong for the kings for me to say like oath that is definitely a playoff team or that is definitely not a playoff team. I could absolutely see qualifying for the playoffs. There is a version of reality where arvidsson has bounced back offensive. Filipino has more points than expected his defensive contributions free on copay tire to score more points. Dustin brown maintains the he was on last year. Vladimir khatsiyev You know wins the rookie of the year like russell t will you know there are million different down different things that can happen. And yet there are a million things that could go the opposite way or their Things like that for other teams. Right that i just mentioned you know. Brock besser could explode into you. Know an incredible player for for vancouver. Just got note by the way The la kings have made multiple player transactions today. The roster is now twenty-eight players Seventeen forty nine hundred. Seventy two goalers. Jared anderson dolan sanyo fog Jacob being of arthur kelly rastas qatari jordan spence and alex turcott have been loaned. The ontario rain no surprises there. Those are the guys that were called. Yesterday they return back to the rain and selfishly. Like i said i hope to see Alex turcato arthur gallium Play in ontario tonight..

"So i have no clue and i can understand the frustration now from you know being a fan of being led down pat saying hey is going to be here and then all of sudden he's not it's complete radio silence so i do understand where speculation will come. 'cause i know that has to be doing the same exact thing. Well that's the thing and you know People keep saying that connects twitter's very ravaged place which it is But you know it's a big part of the media because the media keeps saying all these things and it's like you know conducts fans keeping wetter. Sri i'm not playing a victim about it but it's just like you know it's pretty stressful. It's just like what the hell is going on my team. You know So yeah man i dunno. It's a lot to handle You know people keep insisting that he can opt out tonight By lim fifty nine even though as you pointed out the impact Wanna insiders was saying that you know. It doesn't look like there's going to be anybody opting out. So that means it's most likely not due to vaccination reasons or like anti vacs reasons People were also suggesting that since the concept said that the team would be fully vaccinate by opening the maybe right now hamic just got his second dose or something you know so people are speculating. That speculations. All over the place but at the end of the day. We don't know what's going on so with pd. Being reassigned the lines at camp. Been kind of weird Been exclusively playing center. And so it's been said or people are speculating. Connects might go with a weird lineup Now we're lineup is neal's holender. Elise pederson brock besser on the first line. Then connor garland. Jt miller podkolzin. On the second. Line third line of tanner pearson board anzac mcewen and a fourth line of will lockwood jason dickinson in matthew highmore. And that would be until sutter comes back from an injury that is debt. That's oh one hundred percent but like for me it's like i don't feel comfortable playing horrid on the third line you know. I mean he's i think he's a friend first line center. I mean maybe third line is a little bit of a drag for him. Nothing i mean he has the same linemate in pearson but his acne hyun on his wing in zach mcewen's like i've loved zac mcewen. I think he's a fourth line slash deptford you should be on the third line so i don't know how i feel about that but out dennis just text me to finish squid game What's it called you know. I don't think much should be playing center He looks so much better on the wing. He's someone better on the walls then down the center ice you know and as much as i love hogue lender. I'd like to see him. Still in that second line. I liked seeing with With horvat vat and garland because he had pretty good chemistry with horvat last year granted. He may have great chemistry pederson. But also don't want but then break the on the lineup. You know what. I mean the lot of line j. T. miller leah patterson and blockbuster. I love that line a lot at. That's that's my thing. I mean but we also don't know win sutter's coming back from his injury there will again be been left in the dark on that. Nobody's telling us and it's pretty infuriating. Assure that you would imagine Considering lulama keeps his locked in his basement so they don't get out.

"All right. I don't even feel like to make that much but arguments so kind of waste a little bit of time here right off the top. This is the most important part of my argument though training camp. These days is three on a sessions this year. September twenty two twenty fifth abbotsford. Three days guys train offseason. They skate for months in advance of the season. It's not getting shaper conditioning. Travis green is entering his fifth season as head coach. Julius pederson getting set for his fourth full. Nhl season quinn hughes preparing for his third. They know the coach. They know his systems new guys. Yeah maybe they need to be a camp players who only known travis. Green is the head coach. They'll be all right. Don't all the drill even if they don't take part in them. These guys both attended training camp last january and both got off to terrible starts. So how exactly that worked for them. I would argue. The preseason is way more important for players these days that if either of these guys don't get into a few team sessions scrimmage they'll be just fine but it is pretty clear the houston pederson can benefit from preseason action and. I would expect that both of them will be in uniform. When the exhibition games begin brock. Besser miss training camp in victoria two years ago. We've talked that to death. People thought the world was crumbling without brock besser. Yes what he had seven goals and fourteen points in twelve games that october he was his best month of the season so that brock besser mismatch by missing training camp. I would say no and the numbers back me up on this one. Thank you counselors gotta love that sample size. Don't your yes you do in this case you do. How about the tricks again. I love to talk about the cockiness judge undefeated non-conference play he is basically alabama. And you are.

"I believe and the concert gonna take on so unlike all my god. My jim benning is gonna make viewers trade of his life right. Then i hear connor garland's involved in my whoa. What do you mean kinda. Her husband's involve which is who. I was hoping thinking. Actually get so. It comes out that he connects wine. A trading away the contracts of loui eriksson jay beagle antoine roussell and the ninth overall. Pick in order to acquire connor garland and oliver acne larssen now. Allah recommend larson His twelve percent of his contract is retained. So there's one point. Two five. I believe going back to arizona and the consequent giving a second seventh which i think. The second is completely unnecessary. That's probably part. I hate most about trade But but regardless they got connor garland and connor girl in such a sick player. I think he was sixty five point pace this year. Seth nuts like. That's exactly what connects needed. They needed a second liner to play next horvat. Now hear me out. This is how the top nine is looking for the vancouver connects j. T. miller elise patterson brock besser first line..

"Of thirty. One thousand podcast. Thanks so much for joining us today. Lots happening I shouldn't happen. Lots being talked about elliott and will stick with a couple of canadian teams. Here right now and we'll We'll start with the maple leafs. I'm of the mind that this is probably going to be a six times six deal. What's happening with zach hyman right now. Well he's got the permission to talk to all these other teams right and you know what i think happened again. Nobody direct like none of the direct sources will talk about it. But the best i can piece together is like i think toronto wanted to keep them and i think he wanted to stay. I agree with you. I think there's a six times six or maybe seven times six out there potentially for him. We'll see where this goes. I think what toronto tried to do. And this is kind of gas and educated. Guess was they tried to. Max hermit to bring down the av And i just think it's too far from where highlands potentially going to go here. You know. I think it's like a lot of players i think there's a willingness to leave something on the table. I i just think the gap was too big of what potentially is out there. What they suspect is out there. And what toronto could do so. Even though i think toronto tried to mac term it. I just i don't think they were. They were able to get close. See that surprises me. The idea the toronto would would max term this thing and again i understand this is this is your educated speculation but you know we just mentioned the avalanche and being an analytics driven organization and so is toronto and the same aging curves that exists in colorado exist in toronto with the maple leafs as well. And here's a player. Who plays an aggressive rough brand of hockey which can to injuries. And he's twenty nine years old and that type of commitment on term to a player where you know. The history of these types of players aren't flattering for those types of contracts. I don't disagree with you. Jeff but i think what that may have shown was just how much toronto felt about this particular player. And the other thing you can always do is try to make it so that you know it's easier by audible at the end of the deal ever. I guess it just showed. How much toronto thought about hyman that. They really tried to find a way and i just unfortunately don't think it ever got close. You know the The other speculation that edmonson. There's a number of teams would be interested. Edmonson was one of the first ones that popped up and my first thought. Was you know what type of good did zach. Hyman do in her previous life to be able to play with austin matthews and maybe connor mcdavid early andrei cycle in this life. Do we know if there is still interest from edmonton edmonton's one of the teams in there. You know. I know there were some reports in vancouver. That knocks are there too. I just like to talk about the quick sec number one. I do think the contracts are looking for that kind of player. I think they have some interest in in in jaden schwartz. I don't think they're the only ones you know. There's going to be a few other teams looking at schwartz. Like i wonder. For example of landis gog leaves if colorado goes there maybe. La goes there. He goes back to saint. Louis i mean those are all possibilities for him but the other thing about vancouver i i wanted to mention wherever some brock besser rumblings. Yeah on thursday. This is what i think was going on with brock besser. I do think his name came up. But i don't think it's because vancouver's got him on the market. I really think that it was vancouver. Going after something they really wanted or needed and besser name came up as the price that it was going to cost them. And i really believe that if besser was getting move this year it was purely because of a deal where vancouver got something and we would say. Okay now we kind of understand why this happened. I don't think his name is being thrown out there. I think it was specific to a certain kind of trade. So i don't think it's a general besser available. Let me stick with vancouver here for one second. What's going to happen with nate schmidt here. I think they're going to to trade him. They are trying to move him. I think everybody knows. I hope said. There's no nate schmidt's situation. And i guess it's all semantics. Maybe there is no situation. But i think there's an understanding that You know he'd like to play elsewhere. And i think they're going to try to accommodate them but they could have a lot of holes on their blue line. They're they're trying to sign. Adler i don't know how deeply they've gone with hammock yet. There is a chance he comes back and ends up back there. But i do think they're trying to find him a new home. Let me get back to toronto. then We just talked about Zach hyman the goaltending situation. We've talked about a plenty jack. Campbell is the goaltender under contract. He will be a maple leaf next season question. Mark about frederik anderson question mark about number three. Who's out there on another team right now. What are your spidey senses. Tell you about the goaltending in toronto. It's a great question. I think the goaltender market's gonna be really interesting. You know with the montreal situation now. Where they're they're gonna leave weber unprotected in there. They're gonna lose. Jake allen you don't think they can do a deal to get ron francis to stay hands off. I hear it's expensive man. He don't someone told me who had been a position to know that the The ask and this may all changes. The deadline approaches. That the ask for staying hands off of a player as a first and a third. I've heard it's been very very high. That's very very high. That's very high very very high and that kind of fits but i. I haven't heard that you know the goalie. Market's going to be going to be fascinating. Someone told me that you know this new dell covid thing is really interesting you know. Carolina has indicated that they think what he could win in our is too high and you know some people wonder if it's appear negotiating tactic but other people tell me. They think they're serious that they'll only go to a certain point with the delicate and and then they might move on any maple leaf wise. Well i should talk about. The goal is because i keep on losing my train of thought right like this is not your fault. This is my fault like my flee like attention span. I keep getting distracted by something shiny. The name of this podcast cats and laser pointers go really is so true. Goalie wise everybody thinks seattle is taking dreger from florida and signing him. Now will that happen. I don't know but people are expecting it. So what other goaltenders. Now i think seattle is interested in whole be but not at the number. I think they want to see if they can get vancouver to retain something or try something there and then seattle's undoubtedly going to take a couple of goalies to see if they can flip them because if it's dreger we'll see what happens. Withhold be and montreal things. It's going to be allen and all of a sudden. Where else could we be going with this. Didn't we all think. I thought that anton khudobin was going to be one of those guys but then big ben bishop goes out in agreed to waive his no trade right. There's another one bishop. Mike smith isn't signed yet and edmonton..
