It's CM Punk and Jeff Hardy and John Cena and ray Mysterio and Ricky steamboat. Taking on Chris Jericho edge Kane, Matt Hardy and the big show. They go 17 minutes and man, what a collection of talent in one ring, just one Hall of Famer after another, we get one more match though. It steamboat and Jericho in a featured match at backlash on April 26th and Providence. Steamboat again holds his own, but loses in about 12 minutes is gonna work a handful of house show matches in the months following and he's also gonna work with Jericho Sheamus and Drew McIntyre. And then in June 2010, about a week after wrestling on an FCW show, he's teaming with his son Richie for the first time, and there's a pretty serious situation after steamboat is legit injured by the nexus faction during a segment where they beat up steamboat and other legends on Monday Night Raw, steamboat winds up being hospitalized for the brain aneurysm and his survival was much more touch and go than anyone even knew at the time. But as we know, of course, he made a full recovery, but listen, it was an honest mistake. It was an accident. I think David otunga gave him a powerbomb, I believe, and you would think, man, I've seen a million power bombs. What could go wrong? Well, it can. This ain't ballet and boy, he was hurting for certain. They had to remove part of his skull, I believe, here, Jim. This is a serious injury. I dots a major, major bullet that could have killed him. Yeah. As simple as that. We're glad he didn't. He lived to tell the tale and as we know, he returned to the ring for one more match. November 27th, 2022, just a handful of months ago. He teamed with FTR to defeat Brock Anderson Jay lethal and Nick all this and the return of the dragon pay per view in Raleigh, North Carolina, steamboat would get the win over Jay lethal with the figure four of course lethal was doing his macho man cosplay that day as black machismo. So it was a little tip of the cap to the history of his career. He never officially said that's his last match, but a lot of folks think that might be his last match. someone doing the best macho man tribute he could possibly get. That's a nice little way to go out for mister steamboat now. Yeah, I was. And the quality mask, good talents in there, FTR is a great team. They may be the very best tag team and all the pro wrestling right now. I know that's going to piss off some guys, but you know, just one guy's opinion, so don't get over it. We blessed some great teams in the AEW and any way you want to judge what great teams are, you find yourself talking about FTR. And I saw I'm a big fan of their work, their work ethic, which saw more often, quite frankly, biased. You want to see your favorite one of your favorite tag teams to get after it. But the match was loaded with talent. And all of them had the same agenda to pay homage to Ricky steamboat. And I thought that was as cool as hell. Fantastic. I want to mention he does briefly come back as a trainer in NXT and he's really probably more of a brand ambassador. And then he got released in 2014, but I've always wondered, why doesn't he work in a backstage capacity with WWE or AEW like it feels like? Man, you want to talk about sitting under the learning tree. Who better to tell you how to be a baby face than Ricky steamboat now? Yeah, and learn the fundamentals of wrestling as well. He's a great proponent of that. Teaches fundamentals first. The nuances of being a baby face second, you know, you don't put the cart before the horse. The horse has got to go to work. Got to go in, I don't know, he's just, it may be him, Connor, I can't speak for Ricky, but it may just be that he doesn't want to deal with the politics and the drama that can oftentimes exist within the realms of pro wrestling. It can be a giant pain in the ass. And there are so many arguments and heartbreaks and misunderstandings and stuff that are completely avoidable. Completely avoidable. But somehow or another in our business, we find a way to not avoid them. And I think steamboat may just have his lot. I'm done. You know, so showing up and doing a show every now and then is a whole lot different ball game than being attached to a brand a full time. There may be it. I don't know, have a good question for Ricky sometime on a on an ad free property. But I don't know. I think maybe he just got tired. Maybe he's burned out. And look, he's not, he's not a spring chicken. He just had a 60 something birthday, didn't he? Yeah, he's earned 70 later this month. There you go. I know how that feels. Let's do a handful of questions, and then we'll wrap this one up. Shady white deacon wants to know as Ricky steamboat returned to the NWA if dusty is still the Booker. That's a good question. Huh. Well, it would depend on the cash and creative. Well, there you go. If the money was good and Ricky, like the creative of which he would be contributing to, I'd say yes. Well, that was an issue, you know, we didn't have anybody ready for him and that's when you have no depth and you have very few people over as we'd love to use. That's what you find yourself in. "Is an opportunity to grab. As I see arn working over the arm, he was, again, around this week, and just to be able to see his son Brock. Work too, man. He's spitting him into his daddy. I'm telling you. Yeah, he's going to be a good hand. He's a real nice kid too, very polite. Very, he's broken the business correctly. I got a lot of time from iron and you're saying we in general, but in that son of his, the son follows his dad around, which is smart. He listens, which is even more smart. He says his mouth shut and listens. But someday he's going to be a great ring general. Anderson, no doubt, going to be really, really good. You just got to stay healthy and sane. And keep working hard to improve. You got to arm here and flying Brian and roll it forward. You know, all these years later, you have Brock and flying Brian junior doing their thing. Yeah, it's pretty cool. Isn't that cool? Yeah, absolutely. Watch this. And I thought that a lot of those younger guys like Brian junior and Brock Anderson realized the opportunity there they had on Sunday Night in Nashville. And they took advantage of it, which I was really proud to see. All under the Jim Crockett promotions umbrella, which is just amazing. When you think about that, especially if you're a fan of the nostalgia, which is what we're really all about here. As we look back on a lot of these old school classic matches, this has been a pretty solid match actually. It has been. Going down into abyss, they haven't languished, they told it pretty decent story. They're trying to make tags, they're trying to do logical things. And there's a quick tag. Larry tried to Larry was there in the right spot the right time. Your buddy Larry's a biscoe. He's in all the savate kick. Oh yeah, he's got his routine down. Larry. Larry's funny. He's very intelligent. Crazy little eccentric. Gotta love you. When's the last time you talked to Larry? Long time, I don't know too long. And no particular reason, just yet. That's the nature of the wrestling business. Unless you go to an event like Rick's and over the weekend, you don't run at each other as often. Now, as I mentioned earlier, the appearances are becoming very lucrative. I mentioned, I'll go get the New Jersey state fair, this Sunday afternoon, and which I'm looking forward to, but it's just a we don't cross paths as much. And, you know, it's just the opportunity there to renew and maintain your relationships. Doesn't exist as much as it used to. Unless you go to one of those autograph shots and then in all bets are off because then it's just like, you know, class reunion. And that's the one thing I noticed JR's all the wrestlers, maybe when they have a little downtime, they all can't wait to connect with each other this past weekend. They're all going over and hugging and going and visiting each other and reconnecting that opportunity. So that was really cool too. You saw page and lead. And because Paige was there, and she was connecting with and tenille dashwood, who was M on all of them just kind of visiting with one another and it was just cool to see that. And somebody said, Paige looked really good too. Like to say she was ready to go. She looked great. She had a great panel, discussion as well, said, I'm not ready to sign anywhere right now, wrestling. She's diving into some other things in life. It's great to be a free agent. But she did say she had a sound bite where she did say that it would be cool at some point to eventually step in the ring with the doctor, the DMD Brit baker. Absolutely. Oh man, that was a no brainer. Yeah. It's no brainer, man. That would be a massive, I would pay to see. And we hope so. I mean, they've come a long way with what they can do in the medical world. So we really hope that it can work with her and her neck and, man, how fun would that be? Yeah, you just got to be smart and work around it if that is an option. If there's no option, then there's no option. You just forget it and move on. But if it can be worked around intelligently and strategically, I'd love to see that match up. Without a doubt, and there's a lot more, a lot of other dream matches that could happen as well. They're continuing to work on zbs arm. They are really cranking on it and this is how you're going to end up seeing this match. I'm telling a story. And Larry's right handed, so they're working on his left arm. Makes sense. The dominant arm is the right arm. So they selected the left arm to focus on and it's pretty smart strategy. By the way, the off the top roll was waved for this particular match that was a rule back in these days that you couldn't come off the top role. But that's wave they're allowed to do that. And Bobby and they continue to work on him with this cross armbar.

"Dot com has all the details, but what I'm most excited about is not just the panels, not just the meet and greets, not just the roast, but the actual wrestling match itself, Jim. I want to briefly run down the card. We got the von Erich taking on the briscoes for the first time ever as tag team wrestling at its finest, Jim. What do you expect to happen there? Von erichs and Briscoe's. You got a prediction? I think it should be good. I think that there'll probably be a lot of ground in pound. First time ever can't wait to see that one. We've also got a rematch, killer cross will have Scarlett Bordeaux and her court in his corner to take on Harry Smith, and we also know as Davey boy Smith junior, they've only faced each other one other time. It was Josh Barnett's bloodsport a few years ago. As you know, Jim, that's not a traditional wrestling match. There's no ropes. It's mostly grappling. This will be a wrestling match. Who do you think has the upper hand here? Oh, it's hard to say, boy, I saw pictures recently of Harry. God damn, he's huge. And great shape. He looks like, I mean, he looks almost unbeatable. He must have lost a Josh. Reminds me a lot of Josh. It's hard to pick both those guys are really good. It's hard to pick or guess the bigger, stronger, faster, great condition. A multi skilled Harry Smith. I like this game. AW fans will be familiar with Clark Connor. He's going to be representing new Japan pro wrestling as he takes on ren narita. And then we've got an impact three way. Rachel ellering, Jordan grace and Diana perazzo, a lot of people think she's one of the best women in the world. The title will be on the line. Something we never thought we would see. Josh Alexander, the impact champion defending his title against the longest reigning MLW champion in history, Jacob fatu, first time ever, never happened before, what do you expect here, man? I'm a big proponent of the future for ticket pate. I think he's going to be big star someday. He stays healthy. Stay sane. Next to right decisions continues to work on this game. It's going to be hard to turn him back. We've got a triple-A match. They sent four of their very best down. There was a 5 way back at the most recent triple mania Meltzer said it was a match of the year candidate and four of those 5 are here. It's bandido, Laredo kid Torres and ray Phoenix, who a lot of people think is one of the best wrestlers in the world. That's going to be an opportunity to steal the show right there. Is it not Jim? It is. It's great that Tony Khan has been so giving to allow those talents to come work. Yeah. I think that's great because, you know, obviously you know better than me. He didn't have to. No. And he was happy too, because he's not talked about it. Happy to help out the rest of the business. Happy to help out you. And a lot of our talents AEW guys are dotted throughout your whole presentation. And one form or another over the three days. Perhaps no bigger than this, Brian Pillman junior and Brock Anderson, the son of R Anderson, representing the four horsemen with arn Anderson in their corner, will take on Carrie and Ricky Morton with Robert Gibson in their corner of course representing The Rock and roll express. All of a sudden it's 1986 all over again, man. Rock and rolls and horsemen. Here we go. How much fun is that going to be? How much fun is that going to be? Gosh. Ricky and his son aren't in his son. You know, I'm sure that O'Brien, the Henri as he was that gravelly voice is looking down. So cool booking. That's it. That's very ingenious. I would have a lot of interest in that match if I were the fans. And who's the who's the other team decides Brian and oh, so Ricky Morton and his son Carey? Oh yeah. I got them going over. Oh, yeah. Well, I think a lot of people were probably thinking that. I think arn probably has a game plan of his own though. Oh, sure. And then we've got the American wolves. Davey Richards and Eddie Edwards, a team a lot of people thought was the best tag team in the world ten years ago, they'll be taking on the other team people talked about that way. The motor city machine guns, this is a real dream match. Unfortunately, a lot of people haven't seen their first match, it happened on an independent show like ten or 12 years ago, but they're going to hook it up on the big stage. A lot of folks are pumped about that one, but then of course it's time for our main event. The nature boy himself laces up those boots one last time, promised this time to be the last time or guaranteed to be the last time based on their promo. But we saw his final match or so we thought in 2008 and then he had maybe a rather forgettable finish on impact, but here it is, him and his son in law Andrade trying to defend all that happened in that parking lot at the hands of Jay lethal and Jeff Jarrett. What do you think happens here, man? There's a lot of advantage. Revenge. Retribution. Flair will get his hand raised. He will be bloody, he will cry, and the fans be crying as well. How big this era of professional wrestling is not just in your life which is certainly or chronicling here on the show but just the handful of shows that are on the horizon here. The major moments you know we're gonna be talking about putting hard times on dusty rhodes today we're gonna be talking about creating the four horsemen next week and then in two weeks. We'll be talking about stark eighty five and the fallout. This is maybe the golden era golden age. If you will of jim crockett promotions here. This we'll call it. Last quarter of eighty five. Is it not. I use those same words. In describing this period it was the golden age. A lot of lives were affected for the better. A lot of Wrestlers and people affiliated with wrestling life. Got much much better during this time. And that's across the board. The whole wrestling industry has flamed up. It has indeed and it's flaming up again these days. We hope you guys are catching on every wednesday and every friday unfortunately A couple of wednesdays ago showed it in the way. I wanted it to. I was hopeful that young brock anderson could pull off the upset. It didn't go his way. And that damn black. I hate his ass coming in there and using his educated feed on you in the no no. Hampton is only probably twenty five thirty miles down the road if that from norfolk but it was an entirely different market. That's the way things were in those days. It didn't necessarily have the you know. The norfolk crowd blatant over. The hampton. it was you know. Local hampton people so it was. It was cool. It was cool. You're going to be in philadelphia on october fifth this time in singles action. Now it'll be manny. Fernandez yourself at this point. Did you already have a rhythm sort of your standard manny fernandez match or was that even a thing here in eighty five now will the guy that was experienced like mammy excuse me just went to the ring and whatever the mood was that that's what the match came and you know with veterans that were seasoned and polished. And you don't have a lot of experience you're just went out there and you just winged it and you saw. The temperature of the crowd saw what they were buying and with manny. It was always very fiscal. And i like it that way. Anyway you know. I like i like something that the audience can feel and that i can feel and that manny can fail and so we slugged it out pretty good and that would have been a crowd that would have appreciated. I would imagine it would have been the split crowd. We were big baby faces. But i don't think yet in philadelphia. They they were just the the crowd and philly was trying to figure out who and what we're all about and the we're we're building reputation starting to anyway we We need to go ahead and take a timeout now and play a little clip from the syndicated show october fifth nineteen eighty five. "Similar to wcw. I say as always on here. Wcw outta bad taste. Now you go to those early days. The monday night wars. That stuff was really good. And the fact that you didn't have to feed your everybody like you could have lex luger running in the mid card division. You can have those guys make random tag teams and challenging for tag belts and stuff like that and then we needed somebody. Fresh tomatoes recycle them all up. And i think that's an aid. He's doing really good job of is that there you don't have not. Everybody has to be the main of picture as long as they have a good story. The fan supports will status. I think we did a great job with that And to me though their issues going to be until they can get their branding out there among the masses like you can't walk into walmart and always find the w section of toys that they may have some. They may not be out whatever their merchandise not always readily available once they get all of that stuff up to speed then. I can see them as a viable company. That was always wwafl. The never had the merchandise in the branding division to really put him up there with. Wwe awa recognized that though. And they're trying to get there but that's up takes time That takes connections things were. That's why i think the the cross branding with the other promotion helps them because not only exchanging talent but tricks changing ideas and your changing ways to explore different avenues that maybe wbz's not touching and can get your product out some more people. So i i liked it. They're searching for alternative avenues as they get the base foundation builds up to use them. Now who's number one wrestling promotion. The united states now talking to radio where we're talking about just in general is a wrestling fan. You look at it. You can look at it from a viewership ratings popularity momentum enjoyment like whatever you wanna do like. What do you think is going to me right now. I love a. w. They've been really flawless in my book. But i still think wer one russian company in the united states in the world right now i still think. W w we'll still be number one Just because of name brand recognition like jeff your fan. They are the greatest baseball franchise in the world. They're not always the best team. And that's kind of how i see. Wbz they're all they're going to be the top brand for for a long time. They may not have the best product. They may not have the best television all the time but they have the most name recognition around the world. So awa will probably. You could have your wrestling good at better tv. But the branding has. I mean we've got forty years of ww branding out there aws two and a half It's it's a good point. I the analogy. I've always when it comes to professional wrestling is. Www is like dough. Dewey is the nfl and aws is looked at by outsiders as like the afl or ufl or xfl right like all those off shoe brands. Like that's how it's looked at. They may have star power in those those organizations but like the outside it looks at it goes. It's not w either like wbz's the name brand. That's the one that they grew up on. That's where they know. Hogan seen rock awesome shawn michaels bret. Hart undertaker mick foley. Triple h whoever right. It's all there. The other one is like a knockoff. But i don't think aws gonna fall into that same. Fold as as we w did. It's it's a really intriguing time For professional rousing right now. And i wonder if if a w has the ability like has the ability to really overtake here at some point I think in the is arrested fan peres. They probably has already but you know. Aws isn't always like knocking them. Out of the ballpark like this past. Wednesday was really good addition of dynamite. But the week prior was awful like map malachi black and brock anderson was not a way that you close the shell falling off of the punk debut on rampage like the we you know less than a week before dow was just bizarre additional dynamite. Like they're not always knocking out of the park but they went old school to close it out bringing down the cage elite beaten up the brothers christian cage tunnel baby-faced love for those threes. Now i just like the way that they do things. I like the way that tony. Kahn does things. I like that when tony kahn in. Aws promote a match for next week's dynamite or next or this friday's rampage that they follow through with it. I don't like tuning into the shell. And going where's where's this. Daniel garcia a darby allen match that. I was told i was to be able to watch like what's going on. And the times that they have had polos plugs it's like valerie's like someone tests positive for covert or are unable to perform or whatever It's just it's good wrestling right now. It's it's it's a nice mix. Dr try it. It's like a mixture of attitude error professional wrestling e c w And it's also giving the wrestlers. Creativity do whatever they want like you. Just tell the wrestlers happy like that's the number one takeaway two and a half weeks into right now for me with pumpkin back is. Has there ever been a time where this guy's been happy and it. It radiates off the television. You know like if he's happy. This guy is well known to be grumpy. People must be happy to go like daniel bryan's leaving. Wvu go there bray. Why is going there like these are. This is a place where people want to go. It's it's an exciting time for awa right now. Honestly dr try. And what did i say about monday night. Raw you could tell damien pres and riddle or having fun or a w has an entire roster right out guys who look like i would say miro's the one guy who doesn't always look happy but But he's so good right now so good so good In the one thing they're doing better than wwe. Wwe's the writing compelling television because billy the show with a cliffhanger or they'll wrap something up in either way they do that makes you wanna watch the next show to see what happens next. Oh my god. They left the guy laying in the ring tune in friday to see what happens on rampage. Or oh this coming to an end. What's next for these guys to in on dynamite next wednesday you know. It's their writing good tv because it's hooking you from week to week now and the other thing i love about it is in this is this is kind of new for me The main event guys always main event guts maintenance. We don't know it's sort of an open question if they'd advertisement explicit. They might have done a little bit better. It was pretty pretty pretty smart. Holiday did that. So i'm a little bit curious to see how it was opening of dynamite. And then just as that first our progressed. I would like to believe that there is some type of a slight steady increase. Lead into that second hour you know hopefully though after that punk segment hopefully it was at a a significant drop of viewership hopefully remains pretty much steady.
