"To kathi sells a fraction of the motorcycles around the world that's zouqi does and so there are a much smaller motorcycle company yet when they were given the opportunity to have three satellite teams and eight bikes on the grid. They jumped at the idea. But when suzuki had the opportunity to get one satellite team they went in the other direction. So i guess said not right or wrong. That's just what each one's priority is. And so i think that has a lot to do with suzuki being hesitant right now. Going forward. I think once they have a real replacement for wd brivio somebody from the european motor gp circle then. I think that there's going to be a much better chance that they finally bite the bullet and get a satellite team. Going forward moving on job rage made the argument that even though the popular opinion is the franco. Morbidelli is a shoo-in at factory yamaha for next year he's personally not one hundred percent convinced and huge numbers to back it up. And you know. I'm going to talk about it if he's a numbers. And i do agree with that. I mean morbidelli has struggled over the last four races. Coming away with zero points all the way up to the break or to asan where. He sat out before the break. And because of that you know judd said i was reading all these articles and hearing people talk about how it was maybe a slight to franken morbidelli lead that yamaha was approaching writers like row fernandez or miguel olivera which we know they talked to both or even somebody like pedroia kosta but that's not something that should be taken as a slight to franken morbidelli because he's allowed some question marks to be raised he hasn't really presented himself as heir-apparent moving forward and on that last point i'll totally agree i mean yamaha has to talk to any writer that they think they have a shot at getting. That's going to move the needle for them and while franken morbidelli and his team may not be terribly happy about that. They certainly have to understand that. If i'm yamaha picking up the phone. And i'm making sure that miguel olivera raul fernandez are not interested in moving over and that pedro pedroia cost isn't may be willing to make john or miss jumped. Totally shouldn't be making by the way. I'm or maybe even talking to somebody like jonathan bray. I mean the guy does have six titles. We talked about the reasons earlier. Why it's probably not the best idea for him to make the switch right now. But if you're yamaha you probably want to hear from him as much as he wants to hear from you. I don't think so. Franko has had some bad races this year. But the season-opener in qatar remember that was an issue with his rear whole shot device. Basically the poll rear shock failed on him then. There was the drastic in clearly noticeable drop-off in performance after his injury. The week lme. That was compounded by tweaking. The biggest danger for franken morbidelli isn't yamaha just deciding that he's worthless and casting aside the biggest danger. Here is the fact that he's not on track to distract yamaha from those other writers who are outpacing expectations. This year like raul fernandez if broncos on the bike and he's not injured in. He's finishing on the podium. I mean yeah. Yamaha's calling raoul. But they're calling him not to maybe go up to the factory team the for the petronas ride but frankie's not out there to make yamaha forget about other writers as a potential person to fill the factory seat so ultimately i think the franco is far faster than his results. This year have shown. I think he's still the top candidate based on a couple of factors his performance potential while healthy his composure. Both on and off the bike in the fact that he's done so well on older bikes. And we've seen what fabio has been able to do on the latest stuff. I think franco being so promising on the two thousand nineteen spec leaves definitely some upward potential there. If he is the writer that gets moved up to the factory squad alongside coiro. I'm john also wondered. If yamaha should settle for someone who's likely going to play second fiddle to bobbio and again he's talking about franken morbidelli here but i don't think that's necessarily going to be a decider because if in this is a big f- if fabio quarrel performs to plan and becomes this perennial challenger for the title and to marc marquez. While than pretty much any of yamaha's choices that they have at their disposal right now are gonna play second to him next year. And if fabio struggles. Well then frankie certainly has the potential to pick up the slack at least as good as a majority of the riders whose names have kicked around in relation to that factory seat in there having been very many names that have been thrown out there so in the end. Whoever it is that they pick. I think that the upside of the best writer yamaha can find is gonna way heavier on their decision than the potential downside of a guy. Many bikes mean not only. Is it. good marketing to be able to point to so many of the top riders in the world. And say they ride into kati but it also gives them a better overall shot in the constructors standings because they have eight chances to have the highest finishing bike on the grid as opposed to to suzuki and two for provia and four for the other manufacturers it also gives them a little bit of an edge when it comes to strategy especially late season strategy in a push for the championship because with eight riders on the grid you have more opportunities to push the other competing riders down further in the points in a given race and most importantly it lets them cast a really wide net in terms of finding and keeping riders the best riders and giving them a place to develop to eventually move up to pray mac and then maybe even to the factory team so there are plenty of reasons. Why do kadi is super cool with having eight bikes on the great. But that wasn't what mr t. Was talking about what he meant is why does do coty have to have that. Many satellite bikes mean. What's up with zucchini. What's up with a brilliant. They have none. And that's why do kati finds himself in a situation where they could take on eight satellite bikes. And that's a good question. Why suzuki especially still doesn't have a satellite team. But even why doesn't have one. I'm and it's difficult question to answer as well Apparently award reportedly trying to get a deal done with rossini. And i believe that they genuinely were and i think that racing armchair mention this the uncertainty of current. Your bike availability. Made that deal very difficult. Because if you're pristinely and you're having a discussion with really over here and do khadi over there and they're both offering you a one year old bike when you have to make that decision between a twenty twenty one in twenty twenty one do cody. You're probably gonna want the better performing bike if the rest of the deal is very similar or the same so yeah i believe if apparently have been able to come up with a current year bike. A twenty twenty two bike seeing how rapidly. They've improved over. The last few seasons cruciani probably would have gone with them. But if i'm deciding between the two thousand twenty one and twenty twenty one coty as impressive as a probably has been and with the strikes. They've made their still nowhere. Near what do qadis been able to do with jack miller and petco bag johann zarco. I would much rather have those bikes. Then what allies should grow and lorenzo salvatori are riding right now on and let's also not forget here. That as part of this deal with do christine is taking on bass giannini. Who's contracted directly to do khadi so in addition to getting bikes. That are better performing out of the box. There's also a big savings in both salary and support taking on that factory backed rider which is something they would not have gotten from appropriate so it was probably a better deal and faster bikes as well. And so that's very likely why appropriate doesn't have a satellite organization because they simply couldn't offer a package deal as good as what do cardi was offering to christina me. Now when it comes. Suzuki they say and i think we talked about this on last week. Show but they say that their latest abandoned attempt at starting a satellite program is not a direct result of the departure of daviel. But i certainly think it has something to do with the situation. I mean even up to just before the time that he laughed. Brivio said that not only but this is key. Engineers felt the organization needed more data from more riders to help move the program forward competitively and that meant teams satellite riders engineers working on those bikes but then brivio left and i think that not only was the organization hesitant to move forward at that point because they knew they were up against a challenge and filling davi shoes. But i really think that brivio is departure gave the accountants and being counters. That suzuki kind of a reason to bail on the idea. Because those guys not really wanting to spend the type of money that you got to commit to two more mo- gp probably said. Hey with the pandemic situation. We're bringing less money in so why not save right. Now we can explore the slater and they may have even said why should we even think about a satellite program and after all we won a championship without spending all of that extra money and i could absolutely see some executives at suzuki saying that not really fully understanding the circumstances in how brivio enjoy amir were able to take advantage of that situation last year to bring them a championship and without brivio there to say. Hey you guys have to understand that. We were opportunistic in twenty twenty. If we want to continue what we're doing right now we have to up the game heading into twenty twenty two and beyond. He's not there the say that. So instead suzuki is i'm sure having this conversation with shinichi sahara and all of the other internal people and i don't think that the people lower down the food chain suzuki who worked for the company directly are gonna necessarily go against what the people at the top levels of suzuki are saying where brivio didn't care because brivio was brought in specifically to run motor not to be an integral part of suzuki's operation. If that makes sense and so. I'm sure that he was way more likely to step up. And say if you guys wanna win you gotta do. Abc where the committee. That's running this as a commodity program right now might not be that willing to say it and so i think that brivio leaving combined with less money coming in from the pandemic definitely created the situation where suzuki could kind of shy away from spending that extra money if some of the being counters weren't ready to do it and if that's the case and i don't know for sure i'm just guessing on all of that but if it is then that just highlights the difference between suzuki and duke. Odium race onto hit on this for do coty. Replacing is the top priority of the company for suzuki. Sales are the top priority. And there's nothing wrong with that but it drives decisions at critical points where things can go one way or the other and that's evidenced by what we're talking about right now.

"Engineering. The bike he wasn't doing the rnd and you know that part is true. But i don't buy the argument because brivio absence less zouqi scrambling to figure out what to do next. And that took time and it took effort. Which would have been otherwise spent on the bike. Or maybe i'll i don't know a rear whole shot device so the effect is indirect. But i would say that did absolutely is present this season now. The good news. Suzuki are working diligently over to break to find lies a rewrite height device. That'll be rolled out at some point across the austria races so the task then for miramar ins is clear. Use the new bits to qualify better. At which point. They can use the bikes handling strengths to take the fight to fabio and the do qadis. We'll see how well that works but there are certainly more podiums and maybe a victory or two in there near future. So that's what. Suzuki is working on over the break. Let's talk about their riders starting with the reigning champion in amir whose titled defense hasn't really started the way he anticipated but all things considered. It hasn't been terrible either. There is a glaring lack victories in the first half but joanne scored three podiums. And he's run well. His average finish is four point seven five this season with one d. nf and here is the critical component of that average. Finish up four point seven five. Join mir's average. Starting spot this season. You wanna take a guess. Ten point seven. So that means that on average mir's making up six spots in every single race. He starts making that lack of ride height device and the effect that it has on their continuing qualifying struggles and race starts that much more glaring so without sounding like a broken record it all comes down the qualifying for here. That's all there is to it. If he can consistently start on the first two rose he can consistently be on the podium and the battle with fabio and zarco miller and olivera for the top. Step of the podium is on at that point. So he's gotta start. Better and suzuki has to give him the tools he needs to be able to get a better spot on the grid then yes to show that. Same killer instinct. That he's shown all year long moving up six spots every race. Once he gets closer on the grid quash quattro and those very tough to pass as mos. So i would say that joy mirror has been of quiet race day. Momentum built up plenty of hidden potential for the second half of the season when it comes to top performances but for his teammate. alex rinse. Well he's just looking to get himself back. On course this season things have not been good for him. Having arguably the worst stretch of his entire gp racing career between portugal and mugello with three. Dan fs and twentieth in harass across those four rounds all culminating in the texting while cycling incident at catalunia where he literally. If you don't know this story rode. His bicycle into the back of a parked car fractured his wrist. Because he was looking at his phone supposed to wear he was riding. A suzuki is chalking up the wrecks to rinse just pushing hard to get results in making minor mistakes and indeed. A fair number of those wrecks happened while alex was hunting for podium so switch to his twenty twenty setup and asked him resulted only in eleventh place position saint place he finished in germany with twenty twenty one parts. But hey if alex feels more confident. That's the important part because when he doesn't wreck he is certainly fast enough to challenge for a podium on a regular basis. Now i would imagine that the second half of the year is gonna bring more consistency and better results for rinse. he's always been more of a second half rider in his time at the motor. Gp level anyway. But just like near. It's the same thing. Qualifying is everything. It's critical and being able to take advantage of a ride height. Device will help him as much as it helps. Show an now. According to some people in some rumors out there rinse better step up and perform in the second half or he could be out of a job at the end of the season. But suzuki's kind does sorta maybe t- manager shinichi sahata says that's zouqi are still happy with wins and i totally believe that and that relationship will be a big boost to rinse confidence over the second. Half they're definitely a few podiums in form going forward and he's capable of winning but the competition is going to be pretty fierce so he'll be back to one hundred percent strength one hundred percent focus and had better qualifying efforts if he wants to get back on the top step of the podium this year then that brings us to the final manufacturer modo gp unfortunately the one that is still last in the constructor's standings and that's really now doesn't matter that their last still positive season here. It's no big secret. That apparently has taken another step forward heading into this year. Qualifying better racing better and looking far more competitive than they ever have finishing closer to the front of the field in terms of overall race time than at any point since they've entered motor gp but there is still work to be done because despite the improvements which are notable they still haven't been able to score their first mo gp top five and they're also still searching for the right rider. Put next to al Spago that can help vault them. Olympic pun intended into podium contention now. La says that the key component of brilliant needs right now is horse power. He says that they finally have the chassis squared away to the point where he feels like he can maximize the performance of the current engine and wack opened the throttle all the way and not have any ill-effects which means it's time to give the bike a motor that can push the rest of the platform to its limit again and make up at the same time that speed difference that they're giving up to the dakota he's in the hondas now have concessions day. Unlike everybody else can actually do that. And ally feels confident that the factory is going to have some sort of new powerplant for them before the end of the year to try to give them that extra boost in acceleration and top speed that they so desperately need now if apparently a can give them that engine this year. Then it's going to be a big boost. How big well. I think we kind of have to wait and see what this potential new motor can do before we go making predictions however if it gives spago the extra acceleration. He's looking for then. Yes i think a top five will absolutely be within reach. Maybe maybe even a podium as well if things go right for him although my main concern with both him and the appropriate right now is its tendency to wear out tires and fade in the final half of the race. It's not going to magically get better. Just because they have more horsepower might actually get worse with more shove on the rear tire. so hopefully. that's something. They're working on chassis. Wise as well is tire management in the closing laps. So let's talk about the top rider and the guy who's been making all the noise for affiliate that of course is aleisha..

Input would suit a memories conditions even at thirty four years old and we know that he hasn't been on the grid and it wouldn't be like he's going to go out there and finish on the podium or anything but i would like to see how that plays out and how he reacts to a different bikes so the fact that he was even talking about it in realistic terms. That makes me think it's going to happen. Because it's not really like an andre david also situation where you know there's potential commitment issue on one side and they're not quite sure if went to work with one another or you know we're danny might be trying to position himself or return to the grid. None of that applies here. I mean this is a really easy deal to make. So that's why. I think it's very likely that it's going to happen later. On in the season. But enough. Of what i think. Let's move on and talk about what you think. Let's dive into your comments over the past couple of days. Not only about the mavericks situation. But we've got more coming up a little bit later on as well but we do have to at least talk some about maverick in light the big announcement and the show last week where we kind of focused just on what was happening and how it all started as well and we'll start with chris who said you know what this is big news. I will admit that but does it. Really qualify to be a bombshell something. We totally weren't expecting but then just showed up on her doorstep. Didn't everybody see this coming. Well yes and no. I mean you're totally right that. The frustration was apparent on maverick side. And eventually those comments that were ever increasing. We're going to start fueling. The desire at yamaha cut ties. Maybe move onto somebody else but that being said you know i'd still say that. A top rider bailing out of his contract. A year early qualifies as a bombshell. I mean especially when he's on a bike that's won so many races and scored so many podiums in general but he specifically has had success as one races and gotten podiums on that bike. And he's leaving that his top options seems to be going to a bike that has never won any race or scored any podiums in its current form. But i would consider the johann zarco and lawrence situations to be in that same bombshell category as well. Despite the fact that they were really struggling at the time because yes there was frustration. There was lack of performance. But i mean really until those two guys introduced or reintroduced depending on how you view the whole cow chrysler situation but i would say really introduced. The idea of a writer bailing out on their contract mid term. That's a relatively rare thing. I mean no matter who instigated it in the past and so when you have another top lime rider on a factory team just like lorenzo and zarko saying you know what screw you guys outta here after one year of a two year contract. It's a pretty big announcement and it's still pretty unexpected. Even though we can see that the frustration definitely exists. Because it's not the first time that riders complained about you know the team or the manufacturer. I mean how many times have we talked about to gaudy drama in the past. But it's an entirely different situation altogether to say una care about my contract and we're gonna tear it up and throw it in the air and walk out of here and that's exactly what happened in this situation so yeah it's still kind of a surprise even though it isn't totally unexpected given the current climate between maverick fan. Y'all is in yamaha. Not just right now but over the past year year and a half or so now. Bruce said it's a shame that a writer as talented as maverick seems to have gotten into his own head so much as to not be able to use all of that talent and i will say that he definitely has not been the first nor will he be the last in that respect. I think the difference with venezuela's is the fact that we've seen. He absolutely can compete for wins and he can compete for a championship on the bike. He's leaving. i mean a lot of times. We've seen young riders come up with a ton of potential. They simply get off to a bad start in the premier class and they never recover or we see someone like you know. Hey lorenzo or valentine rossi making a move from one manufacturer to another and they just can't get off the ground and their wheels keep spinning with venezuela's like i said a moment ago there had them results. There have been successes so it makes it all the more perplexing you know the hot and cold relationship that he has with that bike and the organization and indeed with himself too so i think he's hoping that a change of scenery also leads to a change in perspective and then a change in fortunes as a result and i certainly hope that's the case but if we're being realistic he's left us with plenty of reasons to question whether the grass will ultimately be greener. Hopefully it is forgotten joins arco. It seems to be now although it wasn't when he initially made the decision to leave. Ktm and then of course. Lorenzo never got the opportunity once he bailed from honda. So if you look at the most recent instances of the same type of situation it's fifty fifty and either way. It could take a little bit of time to get to that point where he really wants to be now. The thing we don't know is the confidence level that he has in fairly because if he really feels that they're on the way up exactly the right time not only could the grass greener. It could be a huge huge deal for both sides of that equation and that la desma vowed to ask. Whether maybe maverick than y'all is going to apprecia- i mean working under the assumption that that's where he's headed but that's probably a pretty good guess for right now but him going to approach. Could that be akin to lewis hamilton. Leaving mclaren to go to mercedes you know taking them from an organization struggling to find their way into perennial champions. Now that is a big big question. You're asking them when i couldn't possibly answer definitively but i can take a little bit of a guest. I mean certainly. it probably is on the right trajectory. I mean we seen how much they've improved the bike and now they're looking for that top rider to help them. Take the next step to be contenders. Now i'm not the most knowledgeable on f one but there are some differences. I mean louis. Hamilton already had an f one championship when he made the move to mercedes now. One could argue. Hey all that means is that he had some success at mclaren and likewise maverick than y'all as had some success at yamaha so their situations aren't all that different. And i will give you that. But the other part of the equation remember mercedes used the technical changes and the new power plant rules in two thousand fourteen to stunningly good effect and they were able to give lewis hamilton something that was head and shoulders better than everything else. And those are advantages. That neither maverick nor provia have at their disposal in the moto. G p world but there is a chance that the combination of that change of scenery the full focus and attention to him by aprilia in the manufacturer's continuing strides especially if they keep their concessions for one more season and are free to make you know. Engine changes all year long. You put all that together and that could provide the spark that little bit of extra motivation on both sides to make something big happen. And i definitely don't underestimate the value and the extra effort that's gonna come from aprilia knowing that they're taking their operation fully in house potentially cutting through some of the red tape communicating between teams. Like they have been but also because now that they're operating independently from rossini appropriate is putting their own reputation as well as their storied racing heritage directly on the line. I mean they can't really look at their results anymore. Through the filter of well it really is an our team. It's christine is team and we're just kind of helping them out. You know that ownership of their day to day operations and performance very well could have a positive effect because we know the massimo revolt has been preparing for this for years and he kind of is filling that same role that dhabi brivio brought to suzuki that ultimately not only took them.
