Shelby County Commissioner Britney Thornton Is Triggered by Whiteness
"Think that though some of us in our delegation have never lived a single day as a black person, though some people are not delegation have never lived a single day as a poor black person, that that should prohibit you from being able to see a clear opportunity to write some eels. And all day today, I have been pointing out how the practices of our government are disenfranchising a certain subgroup of our population, which happens to be the majority here. And I just think that when you see phenomenons like this, that just should not make sense that show a clear imbalance that we should do our due diligence to try to write those wrongs. So two commissioner meals. I own the fact that today your whiteness triggered me because it is actually an identity that I recognize postures you differently from me. It comes with privileges that I simply just do not have and every single day that you get to go in one direction and I get to go to orange mound. I noticed I noticed the differences in what those experiences are. And I bring those experiences here to say that if I'm triggered, I mean, it just is what it is, right? And if this type of reparation conversation needs to start, unfortunately in 2023, then it just needs to start, which should have already done because on my way here, I looked on the wall and I saw the very first picture of a exclusive delegation of white men on the wall for 1962, so it took some time for us to even get here to be able to create this space, had our predecessors valued it, then it would have been created a long time ago. So it is very much so unfortunate and to our dismay as a county for us to have to wait so long for us to be able to write wrongs. And this is what the racial world gap tells us. It tells us that in my lifetime and anybody's lifetime in this room and some of us combine that we would not be able to close this gap. So Huawei any longer than today,

Sebastian Talks to Michael Green About the Truth Behind Crypto
"Let's break this down. Bitcoin is just the way you pay these people who have to run these big servers that are using blockchain to create the next block train to verify a series of transactions. And the jump of logic or the leap of faith is that the so called currency you're using to pay these people to do the back room data crunching for these transactions in and of itself becomes the sexy thing, and people outside the system say, oh my gosh, I can get rich quick. This is like a lottery ticket and there's no, it is a sure way. As I listened to what I was hearing, it was like almost a cult like phenomena. It felt like a cult being run by Britney Spears. The cool kids, the millennials, think it's a get rich, quick thing, but there's actually the utility of the whole system. Let's focus down on one thing. The blockchain technology you said in that interview is much slower and not as useful as people. People are saying, it's going to change everything now. And that's not exactly the case. Is it Michael? It's not exactly the case. And so just very quickly to understand what blockchain's key innovation was is, again, using the accounting analogy. When a corporation or you hire your tax accountant basically only two people are there to verify the records. You and your accountant, your bank may play a role, your doctor may play a role in certain records, et cetera, right? But there isn't the ability for me to verify what everybody else is seeing at the same time. I don't have direct access to the accounts of Coca-Cola or JPMorgan or anyone else for that matter, right? What blockchains innovation is is that it's distributed those databases broadly. That allows lots of people to check and verify and see what's going on. But the process of distributing it broadly also slows the system down. Now

The WaPo Is Out With a Hit Piece Against Rep. Anna Paulina Luna
"She is the youngest ever Hispanic Latina elected Latina woman elected to U.S. Congress and she joins us now. Anna, welcome to the program. Very happy to be back, Charlie. Respond to The Washington Post story. Well, first and foremost, I knew immediately that I had to go and kill shot with receipts. And so the first big allegation in flaw that they made is that they claim that I was a registered Democrat in the state of Washington of which I pointed out that Washington hasn't declared parties for registration since 2004. So that was their first retraction. And then the second retraction was they actually completely ignored the fact that during a break in that I was at in Missouri state. Back in two, I think it was 2007, 2000 ish time frame. They left me out of it all together. They said that I wasn't annotated on the police report. There was multiple different incidents. It was on 7.62 thousand ten. And ultimately, as a result of that, multiple of my coworkers ended up coming forward and going on record to various outlets like Time Magazine, People magazine, and also to Fox News to say on it didn't make up this story. This Britney Brooks person has made allegations that she owns a ghost gun. I mean, it was so absurd, but in understanding what I'm doing with the media and understanding that you have to be aggressive, you have to confront with the facts. One of the most horrifying things is that they claim that I made up the fact that my dad was incarcerated. And I paid a dollar 50. I went online and I did a public record search and I found all of my dad's charges, misdemeanors, felonies, and to say that I would make something like that up. Why would they say that? It's because they don't want young Hispanics to be reputable. And if you look at the slant of the entire article, they say that I'm not Hispanic enough, even though they cite where my grandparents immigrated from. But you know, a lot of what they do, it's character assassination. And if you don't have fine for it, you can fold, but I think that we launched a full frontal assault and we'll look forward to a more retraction soon.

We Boosted Military Funds to Face the Merchant of Death
"Since the Britney griner trade to me it's been nothing short of fascinating to watch it play out You know not many people come with a nickname the merchant of death Think about what you have to do in life to earn the name merchant of death Gotta do some pretty special stuff To get that kind of moniker Especially throughout the national security community Yet that was exactly the earned nickname of Russian terrorist operative Victor boot Which is what he is He's a Russian terrorist operative Which you know I would get a kick out of news reports identifying him as an arms dealer I mean calling Victor booted an arms dealer is about as instructive as saying Osama bin Laden was at about Muslim I mean this guy is arguably the most notorious terrorist this side of bin Laden in the century The kind of arms this guy dealt with they were missile systems They were rocket launchers among others And the targets of those arms happened to be American forces around the world Now this is ironic in so many ways The omnibus bill that just passed Congress that Biden will sign it's being talented for all of the defense spending All of the defense spending Well maybe the reason we need to increase defense spending Along with you know the reach around club or whatever it was for the LGBT youth community Maybe it's because Biden continues to make the world a more dangerous place by the day

Brittney Griner prisoner swap AP Sports Story of the Year
"Britney grinder's return to the U.S. after ten months of captivity in Russia is the AP sports story of the year. It played out at the intersection of not just sports, but politics, race, and gender identity and wartime diplomacy. An openly gay black basketball star held overseas on drug charges by a nation waging war on a neighbor. It further strained relations between Washington and Moscow, who swapped grinder for Russian arms dealer Victor boot. The entire saga boosted not just grinder's profile, but the issue of wrongly detained Americans and government efforts to bring them home. Sagar Meghani, Washington.

Doug's Hot Take on the Russian Prisoner Swap
"Going to do some hot takes today on some things that are going on that, you know, frankly, as you look at them, they bother you and you begin to look at in different ways. I'm going to start off with one that probably you're going to be on one side of the other list. It doesn't matter which way I go. And that's going to be the Brittany gronner situation. And the weyland situation, this whole hostage deal negotiation in which we let go a known arms dealer for Brittany gronner. What is interesting to me is, and I know, let me just start over with a few points. And I'll go back and fully acknowledge that waylon Paul William was in custody in the Soviet Union during Trump's administration. He's been in custody in my administration. Trump did not choose to make the deal that was just made for him. Let it go and nothing happened. There were other dynamics going on at play there. And now you've had the dynamic in which Biden and the Biden administration made the deal to get Britney grinder out. I think the problem that put most people with this deal is that, you know, and I've seen it as the WNBA player versus the marine or and the others. And granted, there's issues on both of these cases. And he was not a marine is not a marine Niall. He was a former who was actually dishonorably discharged. From the marines, but again, he's an American, and I think that's the first and first most point that needs to be made here. Number two, grinder is a superstar. Her topic was on the news almost every time you turn on ESPN. Every time you watched it, a sports broadcast every time I come up, something about WNBA. Brittany, your honor's name came up. Which made in the minds of a lot of people that this was getting special attention that a normal person like waylon was not getting.

And we keep commenting and keep hearing everyone comment that we left a marine behind a retired marine, a former marine. And I understand that and all that. But what about what about the teacher? What about Mark fogle over there? Because in my understanding, Paul Whelan, you know, not to say anything bad about him or anything, but. But you're about to not have an honorable. But you're about to not have enough. Yeah. So you didn't have an honorable discharge in the honorable Hall of Fame. Who do you think is more on honorable Britney griner or Paul Whelan? Paul Whelan. Okay, so I mean, I don't think we need to muddy the waters. And I've gotten a couple of people saying, oh, you know, he's got a spotty record. He joined the he entered and volunteered and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. I don't even know I've absolutely no idea what his history is. I know he served in the U.S. Marine Corps and he's being held on what everybody acknowledges are bogus charges of spying. So I don't want to disparage Paul Whelan. And incidentally, I also don't think we should ignore that it's great that an American came home. There's nothing wrong with that. I get it. And I'm even the whaling family has congratulated the grinder family, and they've said very gracious things and the grinder family has said gracious things about Paul Whelan. Van Jones: Young People Will Remember Brittney Griner's Release
"Lot of headlines about the Britney griner prisoner swap for the merchant of death. I want you to hear van Jones yesterday on CNN. It just shows this president got it done. He cared enough about this individual person to get her home. It was shocking. I think for young Americans to see an icon like that, snatched, locked up, treated like garbage, and 9 years, ten years for bringing some cannabis oil medical medically. So these are decade defining images. I guarantee you there are going to be young people ten years from now, 20 years from now, 30 years from now who will remember this moment because she is an icon. And it's really, really extraordinary. People don't talk about, oh, well, this other guy, he's so terrible. There's a lot of terrible people in the world. There's a lot of trouble with people in Russia, but what you don't have and what you can't allow to happen is to have a black female icon, treat it like garbage, an American do nothing about it. Something was done about it and people are going to be proud about that. Sometimes they say the quiet part out loud. You can't let a black female icon be treated that way. She's a black female icon, and that's why she needed to come home. The U.S. Marine, he can rot. Paul Whelan can stay home.

Russian 'Merchant of Death' Swapped for Brittney Griner
"We're going to start on a political note. And that is the Biden regime's trade of a Russian arms dealer, a very bad guy, Victor, merchant of death, boot. Serving a 25 year prison sentence for conspiring to kill Americans, trafficking anti aircraft missiles, providing material support to terrorists. So this guy is traded for Britney griner, the WNBA player, and she is now back on a plane back in the United States. And even some people on the left are and some of the Democrats are like, wait, what is this? What do you make of all this? Well, I make that he likes some terrorists. And apparently, apparently, you know, people are like, oh, why would he do that? Is he not a good negotiator? What's the deal? I think Biden has a little bit of hatred towards America. And this is blatantly it shows it, right? Because this man think about it, this man is a true terrorist. Unlike the January 6th defendants, right? This man is an actual terrorist who actually wanted to kill Americans. Trafficked aircraft missiles, guns, AK-47s. I thought Biden hated all that, right? No, I mean, there's a marine in Russian captivity. A U.S. Marine and Biden opted not to get that guy out, but to get griner out.

Micah Parsons Apologizes After Viral Tweets About Brittney Griner
"The NFL linebacker, mister Parsons, who was a tremendous football player, mind you. But I want to go back over to stuff that he said because in my mind, I'm thinking, why did he apologize? And then it's like, everybody's apology is dead. I communicated with somebody that I respect. Why can't you communicate with somebody respect, but still disagree with them? I don't think he should have apologized for this. And let me read his tweets again. He said, wait, no. We left the marine. And then he goes on to write, we still not voting for you. It's what parson said in a tweet for Joe Biden. Because I believe he had the wisdom to say, we got her, but didn't get a marine. You're doing this for votes. From black people. This is one of them cares you can dangle over the black man head and say, look what we did for y'all. Now we get y'all votes for another 20 years. But Parsons in my opinion had an educated opinion about it. And he made a statement that I believe that is a sentiment of many people in this country. But then, somebody, some woke black dude, veteran, somebody on this team, or somebody stupid, I wouldn't say stupid, but somebody who's who I think is less bold about the statements that they make, must've told him he better apologize or else. He said I just spoke, this is the tweet he wrote after he deleted his other tweets. Just spoke to some people that I respect and trust, I should have been more educated on the topic and not tweeted out of emotion for my family and others who have served. For that I apologize, he goes on to say, also, if what I've been told about also, if what I'm told about the attempts to bring the marine home are true, then the best outcome was accomplished. I pray mister Whelan comes home, but I'm extremely happy for Britney and our family. I am not too prideful to admit when I made a mistake. I respect what he said, but you didn't make a mistake. You know what? You don't have to delete what you said. You can add context to what you said.

Bringing home one American or no American at all. And that's that. We gave up a prolific arms dealer who was convicted of trying to kill Americans, who was called the merchant of death. The professional athlete is also an American citizen. So let's not forget that. Who deserved. And so and I have explained how the Russians have illegally treated totally illegitimately treated his situation. I've been very clear on that. We've laid that all. We laid that out for you. Prisoner Swap Leaves Marine Behind
"Big news here. Everybody had been waiting to see whether or not Brittany griner, the WNBA player, would be let out of Russia would be released and negotiations have been ongoing, leading to a lot of hopes from Paul Whelan's family. This is the marine that was detained there. Many years ago, under charges of espionage, which he and his family, of course, refute. Brittney griner was more recently detained because she allegedly had some marijuana paraphernalia with her, which got her in a whole lot of trouble with the Russians. A lot of different dynamics going on, of course, and I'm not exactly one to trust what the Russians are saying on any of this, but it was important. It was important for America and for Joe Biden certainly to get Britney grinder back because she was effectively a household name at that point, especially in light of her being taken like that by the Russians. But there's still some other people there, including that former marine, so it's important that the administration not give up. They did give up Victor bout, who was known as, I believe there was a book on it that I read a while back. The merchant of death, so he's a big deal arms trader was available to anyone and everyone for price. And has obviously created a lot of destruction. Some of which, you know, might come in handy now that Putin is in this war with Ukraine. He may think that somebody like Victor bout will be an advantage to him. We shall see, but I think we all need to sort of understand the complexity of it. And it's not entirely a win for Joe Biden. It's certainly a win for Brittany griner, but

If you caught wind of what she's been doing lately, yesterday she was twerking in like a bra and big panties. I don't fishnets. What is she doing? On TikTok, no less. A lot of fans are concerned. Disturbing social media posts. She's 64 now. She's running a black lace bra. Her tits never look bigger. What's going on that you get them done too? Black lace bra, black high waisted underwear and fishnet tights as she danced to a song LSD and after she stayed under the camera for the first few seconds, she began to jiggle her waist and at one point adjusted her underwear and she stuck her tongue through her lips and licked her lips and she shot her bubble butt and began twerking. I swear to God she looked like if you asked your mother, hey mom, do you know how to twerk? That's what that's about how non sexy look. And I don't care who you mother looks like. She's still a mom. So fans started posting stuff right away. And I'm glad to say fans are now doing the same thing with Britney's posts on social media to fucking dance clips, for turning and turning sweating and sweating the same makeup, the old hair extensions, and this fucking Sam asghari filming her. I think he's filming it. He knows she's doing it. He hears the music on, but he's too busy downstairs in the weight room. It's just disgusting. But fans, I was the only one giving her shit, and I was telling everybody, you're gonna kill this person. They're all, you look great queen. Yes, queen. I'll bring you we love you, and I'm like, you're gonna kill her. Don't do this to her. She looks like shit. This is nonsense. She's nuts. Now more people are saying that now. I'm glad. She is nuts. So people jumped on Madonna. This is not the Madonna I know. Someone staged an intervention. I feel like everything I've ever known is just one big lie. This is soul crushing. But not a blink if you need help. You're starting to scare me now. Madonna doesn't exist anymore. I haven't a clue who this person is.

I feel what she's saying because no one deserves the work as hard as Britney Spears has worked and not enjoy her own money. But when you start doing things that make us question your sanity, then it's like with somebody needs to help you. And I don't know the situation so much where her father had to step in and for as long as he did. Right. I feel like they should have checked in, like, hey, you cool. You know, but I think because of the relationship how the history of it is, they helped out against her and that she was not able to be able to control and be able to speak up. For sure. I think that that's a 100% right. I think the duration of the conservatorship the fact that it lasted as long as it did was the real problem. There should have been a conservatorship in place when her sanity was in question, and people wanted to protect her and make sure that her safety was number one. And then there should have been a three year let's reevaluate. And then a two year let's reevaluate. The 13 years of just complete lockdown strict rules with everything like, that's not helping the situation. Can you have nothing? She literally had no freedom in her life. And people get so hot and bothered, especially with you and I think like, oh, we weren't team free Britney. We were team safe, Britney and we wanna make sure that that continues now that she has nothing. For sure. Now, you know, these are her claims. "Britney Spears conservatorship ends after 13 years by Meghan mcclusky. Britney Spears conservatorship was officially terminated on Friday, bringing an end to the legal arrangement that is controlled her life for 13 years. The decision handed down by Los Angeles County superior court judge Brenda penny came less than 5 months after Brittany testified that the conservatorship was abusive and that she wanted it to end immediately unless than two months after Brittany's father, Jamie spears, was suspended as conservator. Britney's case catapulted into the spotlight this year in the wake of a series of developments, including the February release of The New York Times documentary framing Britney Spears and Brittany's explosive June testimony, which helped shed light on what the pop star is endured under the conservatorship and galvanize the hashtag free Britney movement. Here's what to know about Friday's hearing, all that led up to it, and what comes next. What happened at Friday's hearing. As an enthusiastic crowd of free Britney supporters rallied outside Los Angeles Stanley mosque, courthouse on Friday, judge penny ruled that the conservatorship of Brittany's estate and person should be terminated effective immediately. The conservatorship of the person and a state of Brittany Jean spears is no longer required. She said, judge penny went on to say that accountant John, who has served as temporary conservator of Brittany's estate since Jaime was suspended, will stay on the case in a limited and administrative capacity until related financial matters are settled. He will retain power to execute a state planning and transfer outside assets into an existing trust for Brittany. Brittany took to Instagram to share a video of the crowd outside the courthouse shortly after judge pennies ruling. Good God, I love my fans so much it's crazy. She captioned the post. I think I'm gonna cry the rest of the day. Best day ever praised the lord, can I get an amen? How did we get here? Since condemning the conservatorship and those involved in it while addressing an open court for the first time in June, Brittany has been more outspoken about her circumstances than ever. In a now deleted Instagram post from July, Brittany criticized those close to her who were trying to save face publicly after not supporting her privately. There's nothing worse than when the people closest to you who never showed up for you post things in regard to your situation whatever it may be and speak righteously for support. There's nothing worse than that she wrote. How dare you make it public that now you care? Did you put your hand out when I was drowning?.

"It. It's just like britney one hundred percent right this is. This is her bag. She and i mean. I think just actually makes a lot of sense and explains a lot like britney spears even now with everything that's going on and the more she's telling us and and and telling the judge and wanting it to be made public it's like okay. She's she's making so much sense she's so coherent she's being you know she's laying it all the facts and then she'll post something that's so kooky and then immediately everyone goes. That can't be her or see. She is actually crazy and like guys i think like she's just like connected to the world in ways that us like mere mortals aren't that is what makes her britney spears and can we all just finally get on the same page and recognize that she is an original and like she is all of the things she is kooky she is smart though we can change. Toots exactly exactly so. I believe everything that her bodyguard said. I'm so glad that he's coming forward. And and it all makes sense to me like. I don't think that the medication or like by her saying that she believes in in all you know paranormal. And all this. And that. I i don't think it like okay. Proves that she's crazy. I think it proves like that. She just she's consistent with what her interests are what she feels how she makes sense of the world. Because i mean who better than someone who has been thrust into the spotlight from childhood to ask a lot of deeper questions about their existence. Like the child stardom is a such a fucked up experience where seldom or there will be like. It was one hundred percent turbulence free. I'd do it again if i if i had the chance. Many people come out of there really fucked up tortured field neglected or they had to grow up too fast and i can imagine for someone who has spent their worst period of their life just under a microscope. What is the world like wire. Why am i like this. Focal point like i. I couldn't imagine that. I would think if i was on a trip and i was britney spears or i had the same experiences near reality would feel like a bad trip at that point..

"That culture and then you have a mental breakdown because the whole world is constantly watching you constantly evaluating you and constantly judging you and you're a teenager so she has. A mental breakdown is forced into this conservatorship and she just wants some freedom. She's nearly forty years old and she's obviously been able to do quite a bit in her career In her personal development and growth throughout this time and to completely like ignore discount. That is ridiculous. She deserves her freedom. Yes so guys thinking about it. The adults made her dress up a young girl as young as fifteen when she's bringing. She was younger than that when she was first started but they make her dress up. In a certain provocative way to sell more records to other gross adults right and then other adults come in and blame her for and they say why. Are you being provocative. Why it's your fault me. Was this young girl who said would date told me to dress like that and then a world of pressure and by the way is in the last video. I'll do it again here. For any part of the we contributed to that. I feel gross and sick about it right. And so because we followed the media coverage at the time and no excuses for it okay and and so she has all that pressure but then then the last part of it is my god they. She has a mental breakdown and then she's right about all this her her own. Dad takes advantage of his daughters mental breakdown to take her money and then the convinced her. The she's the crazy one. And that's what she has to live under his thumb and work seven days a week and never relent and not each can't even controller on reproductive rights and do oppressor and keep telling her she's crazy so that he could milk for more money. It's disgusting oh my god. If all of that is true it's really. He's one of the grossest man alive now a again. I just caution all the time because we haven't heard his side of the story But the fact that he's not withdrawing as britney's lawyers are asking is obviously unreasonable and is a sign of who might be right and wrong. "Say you don't have your own rights anymore. You don't exist as a legal being anymore. We don't think you're able to be an autonomous person in the world and that really harms people and and i heard some of what britney was saying as alluding to that that it's a real harm to have that message given to you in in theory and in practice over and over for years. I'm curious so he is there. Ever a good reason in your eyes for someone to be placed under conservative ship. It sounds like it can be a form of protection. Do you think it is. I think there are instances where it really does seem like a conservative ship or a guardianship is at least temporarily the only option to support a person. But i think those are very very rare and i think very often conservatives. In guardian ships are really used as a first resort rather than a last resort. And there's a really wide range of alternatives to conservative ship and guardianship that are very often overlooked. So there's often this sort of dichotomy that you know if you can't do everything by yourself we're gonna assume you can't do anything even with support and in fact. There are many many ways people with and without disabilities can cannon do get support to live their own self directed lives and those are very often skipped over in pursuit of a conservative ship or guardianship in a very harmful way will it seems like another piece of the conservative ship that is problematic is not just the system itself but also how long it can lassen how hard it is to get out of the. I mean i think the brittany case here is a really interesting one because she has this huge fan following. She has a documentary film about her and she has more resources than i assume. Most people have under a conservative ship. And she said that she didn't even know that she could petition. To get out of it and she's been under it for thirteen years. So can you tell us how hard it is to get out of it in. How long they're they normally last. I think because there isn't data we don't know the average length of a conservative. That's the kind of thing that would be very very important to know. That's really critical data. That's really shocking. That no one..

And if she wants to have kids she should have even have the rights to her own children. Now her kids her the guardianship on the senate for kevin federal line for all you don't remember. She married kevin federal line. She had kids kevin. So it's you know we need the has to be some type of reform. What can we do. there's really nothing we can do as a society as us because the judge is the one who rules over it. But as fans of britney spears. 'cause i'm a fan of her. I like her music. We can put pressure on her father. Her family and her father is coming out saying that. Not the one who. "A britney and any of this agitation from her about ending the conservative shit boy. That really seems like he's the one instigating her. So i think britney is romantic partners and her romantic life is interestingly is like very much so front and center of the powers that be in the conservative ship. I've been struck by that throughout as well because going back to the trae wig thing you know to your the tabloids tell it he was made co conservative because he was going to be the one on set with her at x-factor factor. Everyday that jamie for whatever reason didn't wanna be there. She didn't want him there but he was gonna be the sort of babysitter while she's doing live. Tv basically and then as liz says you see this flare up around david lucado. There's some some drama. He's sort of shuttled from the whole arrangement. They try to get a restraining order against him and even now with her current boyfriend. You've seen him on instagram. Anti jamie spears stuff. He's obviously been very supportive of her. She mentioned him a lot throughout her speech in court last week. I want my boyfriend to be able to drive me in his car. We want to have kids. I need to get this birth control device so they have conveniently it seems in trying to keep the conservative replace often used boyfriends both to their advantage as part of the business arrangement but also when convenient as a sort of boogeyman to blame any agitation on her part on whoever she's dating at the time even in the context of this most recent britney statement a lot of the pushback that she was registering had to do with performance had to do with touring and to do with the presentational aspect of her job. But it's a very different component of the work then sitting in the studio working in that context doing doing recordings etc and it did make me wonder the degree to which she felt friction in those spaces as opposed to being out in the world in having to kind of put a face on. You don't have to put a face on when you're sitting in a studio. I mean sort of but not in the same way so just made me wonder how different those two those two scenarios were something. That's kind of hiding in plain sight as the content of our albums. I mean there's a lot of songs were she's talking about. Gimme me more being trapped. She often has imagery of herself in chains. It is a little bit like she's been telling us this for a long time when you look at her work. It's so funny to think about that because you can imagine you know if she is and i've heard stories over the years about her having a sort of savant like mine where she'll hear a beat or a reference track you know from another songwriter and say like oh. That's the one. I want that one. You do wonder if she was drawn to these tracks both that she was writing with other people and giving input on but then also ones that were presented to her where she likes this theme of control and an about being cage and that tracks even before the conservative ship. And i think you see a lot of that with any popstar but especially a child up star about who owns me. Is it me or is it my audience or is it my business to that point. You know we talked a lot about jamie. We talked a little bit about samnang on the lawyer. What do you feel based on your reporting..

Editor of frame britney spears. They teamed up with joe on the most recent investigation into jamie and the state of the conservative ship. Hello we're gonna podcast high psyched to have y'all joe and i have been talking kind of setting the stage about what's been going on for the last couple of weeks but i know that you have been in the weeds for the last eighteen months. Twenty four months really really getting deep into what's been going on with britney and i have some kind of micro questions and also podcast listeners from facebook group. Have some questions. And i'm hoping we can kind of talk through some of these. Maybe a little bit more esoteric but also very detailed queries. So i wanna start off with something that had been kind of gnawing at me through my first watching of the documentary and when i re watched it yesterday in prep for this gnawed at me even louder which is if you go back to two thousand eight. Obviously a tremendously chaotic time for britney and this is when the conservative ship is put in place given that jamie was not seemingly much of a presence or force in britney's life prior to that and lynn was much much more hands on. Can you explain a little bit about. How jamie ended up being the one in the driver's seat when it comes to the conservative ship and not lynn. What do we know about those decisions in that process. And that era we get that question a lot of people also stupefied that you know. Jamie wasn't around very much. Britney was growing up in when he was. He was struggling severely with alcohol. So how did this man get control of. Why was he selected as the conservator and so there's a lot that we don't know exactly about how you know. The conservative ship was planned. And what happened leading into it. But i think a simple answer might be that he's the one who put his hand up to be conservative and as far as we know lynn may not have been part of that conversation to add to that it. It doesn't appear like she was going to be in a conservative ship. No matter what and he raised his hand to say all do it he filed for it so we can gather that if he hadn't filed for it. It doesn't appear that it would have happened. You know from what we know..

"We did as much reporting as we could possibly do around it but this thing was held very tightly so we get our hands on these documents. And that's the first sort of wall of of surprise to hear in britney's voice often through others just how much she felt that she was suffering under it. This is in two thousand fourteen in two thousand sixteen. This is in this twenty. Nineteen hearing when she speaks to the judge and says they forced me to go on this tour of their forced me to take medication. I don't want. I stood up for myself in rehearsal. And she feels like they punished her for doing that by making her undergo all these subsequent months of mental evaluation for rejecting. What she said was a choreography. Move so there's this. I rush of surprise for me. That tahir britney's voice and see how she's been feeling but this is only on the page so we published the story tuesday of last week and then the following day. I just didn't know what she was going to say. And an interesting wrinkle in all of this is that if not for co vid nobody would have been hearing. This testimony live except the people in the court. Now it's because it's in la and they're still under certain govan restrictions. These hearings for the last year have all been happening remote in the past. The courtroom was only open to whoever could get there and fit in often. They kicked media out after they sealed it even if they kept the media in. There's no recording allowed. There's no cameras allowed so basically if this would have happened during normal times we only would have heard britney's voice via scribbled notes by hand for whoever was in the courtroom. And if you've listened to it you know. She was speaking at length and very quickly. It just wouldn't have had this impact. So i'm sitting here at my computer listening to this. Live hearing hearing britney's voice which obviously anyone who's paid attention to pop culture for the last twenty five years knows that tone is one of these indelible familiar. Sounds hearing britney spears speak you know her louisiana accent the way she sort of gets faster and faster as she gets excited..

I'm this is post reports martine powers. It's thursday june twenty four today. Britney spears speaks out the hoop of in experimental brain surgery and the end of a newspaper in hong kong so yesterday afternoon in los angeles britney spears. The pop singer participated in a court. Hearing about her conservatorship this this legal arrangement that she's been in since two thousand and eight so thirteen years. Now there have been a lot of hearings over the last several years about this but this particular hearing special because brittany requested to speak on her own behalf. Usually in these hearings at senior lawyers talking to lawyers or to a judge but yesterday britney spoke for herself in the court after. I've lied and told the whole world. I'm okay and i'm happy. It's a ally i thought i just. Maybe if i said that enough maybe i might become happy because i've been in. Denial been in shock. I am traumatized you know. Fake it till you make it. But now i'm telling you the truth okay. I'm not happy. I can't sleep. I'm so angry. It's insane and i'm depressed. I cry every day. This was the first time that the public has had any access to her statements to the court so very revealing. It was a really emotional berry very tense. Kind of yesterday ashley fetters. Reports on pop culture for the post she talked to post reporter producer jordan murray smith socially what is conservative ship. Exactly a conservatorship isn't arrangement. That places a vulnerable adult under another person supervision to prevent them from being taken advantage of in theory it can involve the vulnerable person really surrendering a lot of control of their finances and a lot of their daily life and traditionally these exists four. Like very kind of senile adult population. Who might be distinctly endanger of of that kind of thing of being taken advantage of but of course what a lot of fans and general observers have argued over the years as britney spears is. She's thirty nine years old. She's a successful musician. She's demonstrated a lot more capability in functionality. Then a lotta people who end up under conservative ships so to a lot of people that suggested the possibility that there might be might be something something off about this situation. So how has britney spears's life been controlled by the conservatorship and who is in control of that conservatorship okay. So who's in control of the conservatorship. When the situation came to be in two thousand and eight it was understood to be temporary at the time and then of course over time became permanent at some point along the way at first the conservative of both her person and her finances was her father. Jamie spears They were estranged at the time. They've been known to have kind of a tense strained relationship for most brittany adult life. A key thing to understand here is that britney brittany and the people closest to her have stayed very quiet about this for the last twelve thirteen years but yesterday with britney speaking for herself in this virtual courtroom for the first time for the public adhere observers learned a lot of specifics for the first time she described being forced to go to therapy twice even three times a week sometimes with therapists. She described as abusive to said that she wasn't allowed to go on vacation if she hadn't fulfilled but their bureau requirement. She said you know they weren't. They wouldn't let me go on my vacation to maui unless i went to therapy As many times as they prescribed she also described Going to therapy and places that were very exposed where the public could see her coming and going Despite her having requested to do therapy sessions at her home instead she alleged that prescription drugs were sort of forced on her by her conspirators. Ones that made her feel like she was drunk. All the time meter behave. Kind of radically She also and this is the thing that i think has really disturbed. A lot of people got under the under the skin of a lot of people in the last twenty four hours. She also mentioned that she would like to have her removed her control device and have another baby but her conservatives won't let her go to the doctor to undergo that procedure So she describes you know that that environment as abusive overall and asked the her conservatorship terminated. What is the freebritney movement. So the freebritney movement Popped up right around the same time as the details of the conservatorship reach the public. You know in in two thousand eight. She ends up under this conservatorship and in two thousand nine you start to see this freebritney hashtag and the freebritney dot net website pops up. It's just it's a movement of fans who saw this happen and said something seems strange about this about the situation about this kind of predicament. That she's in and of course. I think has fed that over the last thirteen years brittany and the people closest to her have remained. Pretty quiet about the conservatorship in the details of it. There are details that have that have leaked out. Or you know. Kind of the occasional comment here and there that gives a glimpse behind the veil conservatorship It's an generally those details. Add up to britney's not happy with the situation and essentially what we saw in court. Yesterday was generally confirmed the suspicion that that allows fans have had for a long time. And of course you know. The the response was was overwhelming yesterday..
