"Trust you so much that you were like, hey, let's make a video. Yeah. Because that was in the 90s was when people started getting affordable home video cameras. Correct. And people were starting to film hunts and everybody was wanting to film their hunt. And so here you are undercover wildlife agent and you're like, hey, welcome. How I got him to do that was I had him film me first. You know what I'm saying? But you do the film. I want to be in front of the camera, you know, which is that what I wanted, you know. So we've done this several times, but on this particular day, we always narrated our hunt. And it was talking about it. He said, we had to do Kiki run today, because we bust them up in February or early March. And then we called back. We had these two turkeys and he goes, yeah, so we got two, and he was both Jake. He's holding them both up. Let's get out of here for the game we're going. And I'm thinking, where do you ain't got no idea? Hey, this is no joke. I currently drive a Chevy truck, have almost 200,000 miles on it and have never done anything to it, but change the oil, change the brakes, change the transmission fluid. It's been an incredible truck. But I'm very excited about the first ever Silverado ZR2. The pavement can take you to some great bear hunting spots and fishing holes and turkey hunting spots. RT said in the first episode that chasing men for this period of his life replaced his love of chasing animals. It was stuff like this that had to be a major dopamine drop. He knew that in court this type of evidence would be unbeatable. All he needed now was a lot more of it and oh, would he ever get it? Here's an interesting part of RT's ruse. What about his choice of weapon? We continued hunting and a hunt with a 22 rifle. Okay. The my excuse for that one. I had a 10.2 river with a scope on it. And they said, welcome to you there. Nice. Don't crack right loud. And I said, got scoop one, and I'll shoot him in the head and he ate like a shotgun. But it also helped me miss Ethan. Which I did. Yeah. 'cause you heart with these guys for too long. You don't miss many birds with a shotgun. No, no. And if a bird comes in on your side, you know, shoot it. If it comes in on my side, not, don't shoot at it. Something wrong. With the shot again, your chance of hitting that. If you miss that bird, you know, more than once it's like, why is this guy missing this patronage? Exactly. So I used a 22 for that purpose was like missed what that hard to explain. And I did miss two top, but they never questioned me missing. It gave him a good excuse to miss. That's really pretty brilliant. And that's interesting because it sure seems like Brit Reeves misses a lot too. Anyway, the old 22 and the 22 mag used to be, I don't know if it is anymore. The poaching weapon of choice back in the day. So RT was even breaking the law by the type of gun he was using to kill illegal turkeys. Man, this dude was a bad poacher. But let's carry on with operation red bud. I have a question for him. De poachers get jealous? So you hunt with him for as many as 40 to 60 illegal hunts. Over in one spring. From February till turkey sleeves. I mean, y'all a hundred every day then. Yeah. And so you were just his buddy. You were his I wasn't even running around with no. You ditched this. Now did that hurt his feelings? I don't think so. I'd go back with him every once in a while with, but I mean. Didn't. It was a mentor as well. So it was kind of cool that you were hunting with the guy and they all both had this friend. And we all hit, yeah. And I hung out with. Which I did not hang out with. I hung out with in a whole different type of relationship. Again, RT is emphasizing that he didn't just hang out much with target one, but his relationship with target two was different and more personal. So, now RT has, let's just say around 50 documented illegal turkey kills with target number one and another 50 plus with target number two. So what's he gonna do now? They've got to shut these guys down and I want to hear about the actual bust. You now have all this evidence. You got video. You got your testimony against the guy. You got everything against this target subject. And

"I pull the boots off while you're doing the rounds. Talk to me about what's going to happen, odor wise. Nothing. When you pull the boots off. Excellent. Yeah. Yeah, you do the prep work for that. He pointed to his jeans and said, should I prepare for that? And I was like, what is about to happen? Okay, brand over here to his left. We've got Brit Reeves. Here. We've got please write that in the minutes that brand answered here. We got Josh filmmaker. Present. Okay, stop that. All right. And then to my right, we've got old friend. Malachi Nichols is our guest of honor. How are you doing? One of the inaugural berries. Old school. One of the OGs, yeah. For real. One of the originals. For real, how are things going with malachi? Sleepy. Why are you sleeping? Since I think since we've been here, I have another little boy. So we have two under two. Yeah. Four weeks. Not like since you got here today, but since the last time you were here. It was just that important. Since I've since I was on last, we have two under two, so. I think the transition from one child to two is the hardest transition. I think from zero to one, it is earth shattering. Really? But from one to two, it's just like you realize like, oh, it's just an annoyance. It's just an annoying. Okay, three. I've got three kids, but they're spiced out from 31 to ten. Okay. But my daughter has three and she said having one kid was like having one kid. Yes. And having two was like having two, but having three was like having 15. Really? Really? Yeah. I didn't feel that way at all. I was like, one was a lot, too. It was like, okay, we can do this and three was like, just keep them coming. I know. I know.

"So Josh is now like the audio bad boy of the Berger's podcast. I got a rep now. I got a reputation. Josh was a street crew. You got priors. Well, he got reprimanded. He got reprimanded for fidgeting, heavy breathing, drinking on the podcast. Not alcoholic drinks, non alcoholic drinks, but drinking on the podcast. And then, and so we were texting Josh, you know, okay, here's the thing that we all do and we all know it. When you actually need to talk to someone about something serious and you turn it into like a little bit of a joke. You're doing a bit, yeah. Yep. Do you see what I'm saying? Yeah. It's like rather than like call Josh and front him. Yeah. Just like, which is to me, that's the best way to do it. Brit Reeves says that anyone in his life. I was like, hey, stop. So we send a text thread and we're like, oh, you've defended Josh. You need to watch yourself. I'm just saying. No, no, so after a couple of joking text messages about the heavy drink. Then it was like, Josh is really a fan. This is how we create a villain.

"Able to find the nuance of funny stuff inside of his everyday culture. The stuff that other people were like walking right past. I mean, just shows what a alert aware intelligent guy he was. Would you agree with that? I would. Jerry, he had a way of relating to people. He was a very comical person, but to me, knowing him as well as I did, he appeared to me to be a lot more ease in a private climate. We've been to his house on numerous occasions, and he was a lot more comical because I think he was a lot more at ease with people that he knew and in a setting that he was familiar with. So he was more funny when he was with people. Oh, yes, definitely. Definitely. One thing that I've always been quite proud of, my wife hit got her master's degree over at William Carey cottage. And Jerry gave her this plaque and recognition of it. And it's from the knock them out, John foundation. He gave this to him a wife. When he gave this to her, he told her how proud he was of her and he looked at me and he said, you know, it's a miracle that you were able to accomplish, make the Danes list. These honors that you have received. It was a miracle, and with what you have to put up with at home. I knew he was making a reference to me. And I said, Jerry, let me tell you what a miracle he is. I said, I can't sing and I know that. And I said, I know you can't either, because I don't sit with you before in church, you know the services, and you can't sing. I said, you couldn't carry a tune in the bucket, and I doubt if you know the difference between a guitar and a piano, yet you have been inducted into the grand old opry. That's what you call a miracle. And he grabbed me around the neck with his right hand and with his Bible clenched in his left hand, and he looked up in the heavens, and tears run down his face, and he said, John ain't God good, ain't God good. So it was a real moment for him. It was just a while you were trying to be funny. And said, you know, making a joke about him not being able to sing, but being in that grand old opry. It impacted him just in that moment. He was just grateful. It's moments like this with no cameras or recorders that you can see inside of someone. Jerry grew up dirt poor. He didn't hit the big time until he was in his mid 40s. He truly appreciated what had happened in his life. I think it hit him hard on October 27th, 1973 when he was inducted into the grand old opry. Now, if you're familiar with country music, there's no need to qualify that statement, but if you're not, this is a big deal. The grand old opry is a weekly country music concert show held in Nashville, Tennessee that started in 1925 in his played almost every Saturday night for the last 100 years. It's the longest running broadcast in U.S. history. It's been called the home of American music and country's most famous stage. The opera in duck certain people as members who are people of influence and country music, but usually their musicians. But Jerry was one of the rare inductees that wasn't. Members are required to perform at the opry a certain amount of times each year. And in its history, the opry has inducted over 225 members. You guys know old Brent Reeves. He is bare Greece's goodwill ambassador of the south and our chief cornbread connoisseur. He grew up in the heyday of Jerry clower's career when listening to the grand old opry was one of the highlights of the week and wildly. Brett got to meet Jerry. Can you imagine a young Brit Reeves meeting Jerry clower? And I had to laugh when I heard what Jerry called him. We had what was known. I'm not even sure if it's still there, but there was an event center, and it was called the Bradley county cultural center. Cultural hub with universe as far. As far as the cultural hub of Bradley cowboy. Exactly. And this is one high school and it was on the campus of the high school there. And it was an auditorium and for our junior year fundraiser. We got Jerry clower. The booked him to come and put on a show. So 1980 three. That had been 83. That would have been about the peak of his, I mean, inside the peak of his career. Yeah, and I have no clue what it costs us to get him, but when he left, he handed the check back, and said, give it back to the school. No way. He came from his home. He drove up there himself, and a biggest, longest Cadillac I ever saw. By himself, he had all he wanted was a place to change, to change into his that suit that he wore, his signature. What did it look like? It was red. Red suit, it had on the lapels, like on lapel, the stitching was white, so it stood out against that. And he had an embroidered coon on the left lapel. Really? Yep, Kung face right there. And I got to meet him and he was so nice. Now how did you meet him since it was our class? And there was like ten or 12 of us that were selected to go over and help set everything up and to be there. To help them since it was our project, our fundraiser. So I got out of class early that day to go over there and help him. Plus, I wanted to meet him. I mean, this is somebody who I had seen on television and heard these stories. We had the record. Remember the grand Ole opry? Oh, yeah. The whole, it was a big deal. Yeah. And I heard him on the grand Ole opry. When my dad and I told you this before, my dad and I would go hunting at night. Of course we were running. He was chasing coyotes then with the pack dogs. But when the rice got going, we'd listen to the grand Ole opry on a.m. radio in his truck and sometimes on Saturday nights. Yeah, Jerry Clark, read there. And so I've been listening to those stories in my whole life, and this was a guy that was in my radio. It was in he was in our community. You know, the community that the culture, I guess, that I grew up, man. So it was a big deal. I'm coming there. And I remember it being packed full of folks. Now, so was it open to the public? Yeah, I sold tickets. Sold tickets. So sponsored by your class. Sponsor raise money. Gotcha. And that's what it was. So you said he pulled up in a Cadillac. You saw his Cadillac? Oh yeah. What color was it? Gold. I'm telling you. It was long as little battleship. It was huge. I heard that he had a gold Cadillac. That's why I'm just confirming what, yeah. Yeah, well that's what he was driving and he like I said he came by himself. He had a dressing room. They brought him some, you know, some cold drinks, the drink, and I think somebody brought flowers and stuff, but he took time to talk to anybody that wanted to talk to. But I shook his hand and I was a junior in high school. He said, boy, that's a man's handshake. That's nice. He said, you were pretty bored. And are you serious? Yeah, absolutely. And we talked not gonna forget that one. We were pretty, he said, you were a pretty boy. And of course, you know, manners yes or no, sir. He remarked about that. We just talked to him. You know, I tried to talk about, I just assumed he had a pen full of coon dogs at home. I mean, but obviously he didn't. Yeah. And he just had one embroidered. He just had lapel of his red sports code. Sure. Which every man probably should have. You had on white cowboy boots. Yeah. And red pants had a big white belt with a belt buckle, size of a student baker hubcap. Big fancy shirt, you know, pearl snaps on it and that red signal. Do you remember, what did he do when he stood up? Was he the only act of the night? He was the act. He was. So how long did he speak? I would imagine about an hour. Jerry clower.
