"Become self sovereign of the content that you produce and own the content that you create. And so I think as women sometimes we tend to shy away from aspects of investment, cryptocurrency, there's almost like a scare. That you can't approach it. But actually, the first steps are not that hard. So I would encourage people to educate themselves for sure about what cryptocurrency is and how to approach the NFT space for some foremost. And then take the leap because the innovation that technological innovation is definitely not going away. So it's good to be on there and get educated about what's happening. We call up. Thank you very much. We want vertical crypto art and Anna Louise Simpson there who did take the leap some time ago and doesn't sound like she's looked back talking about taking a leap and some of your more embarrassing moments which are still coming in. Thank you so much for these after Anne Marie at the BRIT Awards last night stacked it fell over on a step into her first bars of her song and then got straight back up without missing a beat. Have you starred out an embarrassing moment? A message here, I went to David Miliband speaker to rally during the labor leadership election in 2010. I had my 6 month old baby girl with me, and as he walked into the hall, he leaned and kissed the baby in a classic politician pose. Remember those days when you could do that? Pre-pandemic, of course, also slightly different life as well in the different age. However, I thought, no idea why. He was going to kiss me. We'd never met. And lunged, which ended with me, kissing his heir. I can feel it now. Another one here, there's so many. I've been to a gig with a group of friends. We caught the train home outside the station we had to go over a bridge to get to the road and I tripped up on the steps. I was so embarrassed in front of this boy I really fancied. So I pretended I'd fainted. And as I lay on the steps, supposedly in a faint I could hear him say, oh no, is she okay? And he picked me up in mile in his arms and I was so and he was so concerned and I nearly swooned again. It was wonderful. I then had to pretend to come round and he still had his arms around me. It was lovely, says Pauline in which to but I mean he definitely styled that out..

"And people can go listen to it. It's so beautiful. Absolutely gorgeous to listen to again. And it's one of those things that you've experienced very recently about how to have your sound and make it your own and have those clear ideas accepted by men around you in the music industry. It's interesting to be in a position whereby you are the creator of your own art, but other people want to tell you or impose their idea of what your art should look like and sound like. To you. It's so important to keep I believe a control of your own musical output or any artistic output because then whatever the public say about it, you can take it because it's your vision. But if you acquiesce to the ideas that somebody else has imposed upon you and, you know, for some reason, it doesn't work out. You'll always look at yourself in the mirror and say, why did I allow this to happen? Why? And I knew that from a very early age, I was determined that the music I was going to make was the music I wanted to make. Subsequently, it meant that my career has been a slow and a long burn, you know, that path to success, but it's one that I'm happy with because it was within my control. And everything that the public got to hear as much as was possible, of course, was what I wanted the public to hear. And yes, specifically with that song gold, which was so personal to me, I'd written that, just me on the piano. I didn't want someone coming in and saying, well, actually, the production has to sound like this. Now I wanted the production to sound simple and strict back like the emotion of the song. And I certainly didn't appreciate being blamed for the fact that the producer at the time was not happy with being told by the sun writer and artist, you know, what to do, especially when he was the one who walked out the session. I wasn't having that at all. I got my own way in the end, so I was happy. Also, I've just got to ask you as well, news out this morning, the BRIT Awards, scrapping, male and female categories. What do you make of that? Have you seen that? Okay. I'm just hearing that when you're in a show, some of the news passes you by, and then you're always kind of a few days behind the curve. Well, men and women going head to head. So somewhere will be worse for women while men win more of the awards. I just wondered what you made of that Beverly knight. It's an interesting one because I remember and this is going back 20 years ago, admittedly, I remember being part of a Talking Heads panel for a TV show, which was celebrating the music of the millennium. And overwhelmingly, you know, the great artist that artists that were most revered were men and there was there had to be a specific women's category just to get women in there, but the category that I remember was the greatest songwriters. And there was an a woman among them. And I was like, Carol king, Kate Bush. Anyone heard of these people? Anyone. So often, that's how it goes, you know? Good on your Beverly. The drifters girl is on at the garrick theater in London right now. Now it's been a big year for Cinderella, a film version was released Andrew Lloyd Webber's new musical version is currently in the.

"You know, like some of the videos that they would show at like two in the morning or something. I don't even remember if MTV signed off in the 90s, but I guess I was a bit too young to remember. But I just know that he was huge in the UK and let me look at this section for awards, the BRIT Awards. I'm not very familiar with, but I'm assuming that's not. I've watched them here. I've watched them, they were always aired on much music here in Canada. Much music being somewhat similar to MTV. I knew much music operated on an 8 hour show a day with three rotations. So when you were talking about MTV ever shutting off for the day, they might have done something similar. I don't know. Do you know the gaffa awards, GA FFA? I've heard the term, but I don't know what they are. He's been nominated for that twice, and okay, the NME awards. Do you know that what that stands for? New music express, I believe that's a magazine publication. Okay, okay, because they love the hell out of Morrissey. I don't know where that. That's published, but dating back to 8 from 84 to the latest was 2006. He was given a bunch of awards by that magazine. He said it was a magazine. Best songwriter, best dressed, best haircut, best male singer, most wonderful. This one's interesting, most wonderful human being and he won that award several times. What? And what I want to get into today with Morris, the research that I was doing today, I want to highlight how much of a wonderful person he is. With a lot of his public statements that he's made. I don't know if we're ready for that yet or if you want more C backgrounds. Let's go into the background and then we can get to that point. Just so that people have a little more information on them. Okay. So he is still a recording artist. And my favorite album of his was late 80s, bona drag, which I don't think was a studio album. I think it's kind of it was more like a compilation album or unreleased song elbow. I can't quite remember. But that was the album that had a huge impact on me. And he writes a lot about just being depressed.

"I suppose to write those messages and say something. Absolutely. It's such a crazy thing that in 2021 we still have an issue with makeup and issues around here, you know, four black women, specifically black women because my hair is very different, you know. And especially the darker you are, the issues are magnified, you know, with makeup. It's ridiculous. It's absolutely ridiculous. Don't drop the issue, I would say to Carol, she absolutely must persist with this. Gosh, I mean, I'd love to know more about it. The journalist always is nosy, but everybody always wants to know a bit more when they feel a little bit, don't they? And then well, perhaps, perhaps we'll speak to Carol and we'll find out a bit more, but I just wanted to share that with you because I know you've had a lot of experience and it will be useful for her, hopefully. And maybe, you know, real real help to her to hear what you have to say, Beverly and I also have just got to ask you as well, news out this morning, the BRIT Awards, scrapping, male, and female categories. An interesting one because as I said earlier, it's an industry which at decision making level is very much dominated by men. I remember and this is going back 20 years ago, admittedly, I remember being part of a Talking Heads panel for a TV show, which was celebrating the music of the millennium. And it was the public voting on, you know, the most influential people of the past millennium. You know, I'll be out. So, I've never even seen the movie, let alone oh my God. Listen to the album. I thought I was going to the highway to the danger zone. Yeah, yeah. All right, let me give you this one, and then we'll finish this up. We got a couple more things to talk about. So, all right, this one is a good one. This is an interesting one. This singer is an English. Did you say singer? I did. I said, singer. Go ahead, give it to me. Give it to me. Come on. I'm just a singer and a rock and roll band. This singer named just a singer. Did we grow? Didn't we grow up with a kid named seize a single? One season, yeah. I bet he hated the movie Planet of the Apes. Oh God. In 2004, Rolling Stone ranked him, number 80 on its list of 100 greatest artists of all time. This singer began his career as part of London's pub rock scene in the early 70s. And later became associated with the first wave of British punk and new wave movement that emerged in the mid to late 1970s. Oh, this is a good one. I don't think I know the answer to this one. It's critically acclaimed debut album was released in 77. His second album was released in 78 and was ranked number 11 by Rolling Stone on its list of best albums from 67 to 87. Third album was released in 1979. His first three albums all appeared on Rolling Stone's list of 500 greatest albums of all time. Wow. Wow, I have to. I have to admit I'm a little lost on this one, you know, 'cause it's kind of a little more because didn't you say Grammy Award 19 when? Let me see. He including Grammy Awards in 1999 in 2020. 2020. Brian Epstein the manager of both of them said professional artists. It went through an overdrive, including Pete best before I go started going in 1962. The pioneers were recording. "The uk's gradual opening-up of society the lifting of restrictions that we've all been living under and how it could go about mitigating the risks. And tell me what was the kind of design like because you know in your story you describe this as tens of thousands of people that have been to these events have been consenting individuals and essentially an experiment right. That's what this was exactly and it's been broken down into three phases so the only part that we actually have any data on it's the first phase where the pilot phase and that in old nine events which took place earlier this year and these were the fa cup final at wembley. Another one was the brit awards which is a big music awards ceremony. People who attended these events did so as part of this research study. They gave the consent obviously to be part of this and prior to attending the vents. They all had to take actual flow tests to see if they are carrying the corona virus. And then they went to the events and the scientists who are running events research program did lots of analysis on how they moved around the venue. The people did social distancing whether they wore face facemasks. They took measurements of co two in the air which helps to understand the ventilation in the venue. So these were relatively in-depth studies. This wasn't just a case of testing people. Send them to you then. Test them again if they got more covert or less covert they wanted to understand how that might work within the venue so that they could really have more fine grain policy decisions at a time when we want to open up now again. We'll put aside. The fat in the uk has opened up now but the idea was. Are they going to be specific policy recommendations that we could make. That would really limit trasmission this. This'll sounds very good on paper. How successful was it. Well as i said the results from the first phase and that took place Fep it earlier this year when the levels of the virus secular population where a lot lower than they all now the delta variant which we all know is more transmissible wasn't the predominant variant at that time it was around but it just wasn't causing havoc..

"And speaking of iconic british acts what about new order or boys previous nominees. New order released a new single a rebel in september twenty twenty while six time nominees pet shop boys released the single cricket wife this year. I love that and you know the mentioned pet shop. Boys leads me to elton john and years and years. The two acts performed a show stopping cover pet shop boys. It's a sin at the brit awards earlier this year and released it as a single. Maybe considering elton is a five time winner could the cover snare a best pop to a group performance nomination or maybe even best dance electronic recording nomination that makes me want to go down a whole other rabbit hole of cover songs. That have been nominated for grammys. That's probably another episode. Then there's twenty time winner. Bruce springsteen dropped his letter to you album during the eligibility period. And of course he's bruce springsteen so he's pretty much automatically in the grammy conversation at any time and then there's eighteen time winner. Paul mccartney who released two albums that could find their way toward the nomination. His mccartney three studio album in december and its subsequent alternative remix album mccartney three imagined featuring an array of stars ranging from back and saint vincent to phoebe bridges and dominic feick so could the former get a nomination for best rock album with the latter finds its way to nomination in the best alternative music album category. Perhaps it'd be wild. If mccartney had an album in each of those categories oh yeah same time and then how what springsteen like what if it was springsteen verse mccartney. I rocket totally basel Okay so what about friend of the podcast kylie. No the grammy award winner released her disco album in november of last year. And it's very pop dance disco and it was warmly received debut in at number one on the official uk albums chart and it was also a finalist for top dance electronic album at the twenty twenty one billboard music awards minogue also had some interesting clam rations and covers in the past year. There was her studio twenty fifty four remix of disco albums real groove with grammy winner. Liba that was featured in leila's studio twenty fifty four livestream concert minogue was featured on a remix of years and years as starstruck and minogue even covered lady gaga mary. The night from the born this way album for the sets. Tenth anniversary reissue. There's also friend of the pod now. Rogers a three time winner. Who had a uk dance hit with s g. Lewis called one more rogers also credited alongside twelve time winner. John legend and winner burner boy on the song coming to america from the movie of the same name. The track was produced by rogers and the current reigning grammy award winner for producer of the year. And oh yeah friend of the pod. What maybe a record for friend of the pod on the pod. Lastly at least for this list. What about billy idol. Joan jett and stevie next under the pod stevie nicks has three time nominee idle and previous nominee. Jet were both featured on miley cyrus. Plastic carts album which came out last. November idol was featured on the album's night crawling jet on the track bad karma and then of course knicks. "Org slash Chicago. 23 were talking entertainment news of Dean Richards, and it is apparent that Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck were secretly dating or whatever they were doing for quite a while, huh? You know, we only heard about Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck. Kind of, you know, being seen together. Kind of reuniting, you know, rekindling the romance I I guess we don't really know the extent to which there At right now, but they definitely have been seen together several times and TMZ is reporting that Ben Affleck began tweeting Jennifer Lopez back when she was still engaged. Torto Alex Rodriguez When she was making a movie in the Dominican Republic. They're going back and forth on, you know Twitter not not on Twitter, but just with the text messages. Back and forth which others is really is February, so apparently the started quite some time ago. You know it Z kind of interesting. Ben Affleck is a die hard Red Sox fan. And there's a certain irony that he could steal a woman away from a former Yankee here if you wanna bring baseball into the whole thing, But you know that that's the latest on this. If you're Keeping up on the celebrity romances. Well, we'll look for a ban in Jennifer on making the rounds. Some son, I'm sure someday and meet the press face the nation. So you know we'll get more. I'm very interested to see what they think of vaccination rates and seriously issues of the day. What's this latest honor for Taylor? Swift Taylor Swift got a nice award yesterday in the UK they have what they call the Brit Awards. Which are the British equivalent. I guess you might say of the Grammys these air, you know, Accomplishment in music awards, and she was given the global icon award last night, which is a big deal in and of itself, But she is also the first woman. Ever to get this award and the first non Brit ever to get this award. Elton John has gotten it in the past David Bowie. Among others, But she, you know, in her acceptance speech talked about, you know, we live in a world where anyone has a right to say whatever they want to say about you at any time. Always remember that you have the right to prove them wrong. You know, with all the gossip that goes on about her life, she wanted to make that clear. And I'm not familiar with this open, pronouncing it correctly. But what is Tia Trolls and Zanny? Is it is official. Yeah, perfectly pronounced theater. Rosen's army is Show that was over at the Cumbria Hotel. Back in 2019, and it's kind of a dinner theater show. It's kind of cabaret circus music comedy. They got all these performers that air strolling around this, you know, giant essentially ballroom While you while you sit and eat your dinner, and they entertain and sing and do acrobatics, and you know all all kinds of things, or at least that's the way they did it before the pandemic, But they announced that they're going to be back. They are going to begin performances again at the Cumbria Theater beginning on July, the fifth and our friend Frank Ferrante, who starred in the show When it first opened here in Chicago. A couple of years ago. He's going to be back to star in the show fact he's gonna be on my Sunday show this week. We'll get caught up with it. But the only difference is going to be that they will be incorporating all the CDC safety protocols for the show as well. So while you're sitting in Having your dinner obviously don't have to have your mask on them. But if you're gonna walk around the room for any reason you have to have your mask on, you have to the tables will be properly socially distanced and The staff and the performers. All will be vaccinated. You know, before anybody walks into the room, so they're doing everything they can to keep that safe. And it's good. You know, I'm just happy to see shows opening in Chicago, so it's nice to be able to tell you about things that are opening instead of things that are closing. If you're interested in this theater, Rosen's on Oh, it's very, very entertaining. Individual tickets are on sale right now. It Zanni common Spelling Z A. N Z a N and I zanni dot com slash Chicago and you could go check out that show. If you're around the television set in about an hour. Dean is going to be doing some cooking on WGN TV. What's What's the recipe today? I'm doing up some pulled pork today. But I am doing it. You know, it's it's just been so jury. I actually have been out on the grill. Well, you know when it's been kind of chilly and rainy, just because I'm stubborn that way, and I thought I I am going to grill. I am going to be out there. And it was fine. But you know, to do a pulled pork. If you do it right can take 6 to 8 hours. It takes a really long time if you have one of these instant pots You know one of these pressure cooker kind of deals and get the whole thing done in an hour, and it tastes pretty much the same as doing it outside. I don't want to say it's better than outside, but I'd be hard pressed, you know if you spice it up properly. You know, to be able to tell the difference. So I'm going to show you how to do all of that. The disappointing part of it today is because this is all done in the insta pot. The chance for me, burning myself scalding myself cutting myself. You know the injury factor, Which is why most people like to watch my cooking segments. Eyes fairly low today. Too bad s O, You know, maybe I'll drop the pot on my foot. You know, maybe maybe maybe something like that will happen. We keep our fingers crossed. And does this happen to you often? Dean, you you make something and you offered to somebody and they're wearing a mask. And they say sorry I would taste it. But, you know, I don't want to take my mascot. Are you getting a lot of that? Notice that you know it used to be. You know this from being in TV stations forever. TV people are the hungriest people that you will ever meet. If there if food shows up at any TV station. It's gone and five minutes unless it's something healthy than that stays out there like days and that's just on the table. But I have noticed, you know, since I've been cooking during the pandemic on the morning show. People are eating it, but not with the vigor that they used to say that it is a little bit different. Now. Blame it on Cho of it. Yeah, believe it. Go with that. It was good luck out there today. See you later. Thank you. Dean will talk to you tomorrow..

We'll get to that at 11. 30 go to our Facebook page. You can email the show Donna and Steve. Show it my talk one of 71 dot com. Ah, this just in at least somewhat recently, NBC has canceled the Golden Globes. I was really surprised when I saw this on Twitter last night. What, huh? They might be a thing of the past. Apparently. There has been a bunch of controversy surrounding the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, including a severe lack of diversity, preferential treatment, misuse of funds, allegations of sexism and abuse. Um, I can't remember who it was. But I did see a headline of one of the actress one actress who said that any time she was interviewed by a member of the Hollywood Foreign Press. It was just very sexist. And So we're hearing more of that. We're hearing that they have zero black members right? That is That is really shocking. When were the Globes this year? What month it was in March. I enjoyed the broadcast more than the Oscars. Oh, yeah. I just liked it. It was remember, It was all the celebrities were at home. And it was like kind of fun because they talk to each other. You know, we don't have any people There were in separate locations even though it looked like they were on the same stage. One was in New York. One was in L. A. It was efficient. Yeah, my favorite. I think it's my favorite award show for sure. It's just really loosey goosey, obviously, their liquor and everybody up to They got these giant magnums of Millette, Shandong that are on every table and people were loosey goosey s O. I will be curious now to see with the announcement that NBC is not gonna Period. They did go on to say that they are hopeful that if the appropriate changes that they deem need to be made are in fact made that it could come back to NBC. In 2023, because I believe that NBC ABC has an agreement with them where I suppose they have They pay some element of the rights to broadcast this. It's made the Hollywood for foreign press a lot of money over the years, and it's increased year after year. NBC can Still it's not like CBS can come and grab it now, as far as I understand. That NBC still has those rights and they're essentially saying, Look, if you want to continue, and NBC does a bang up job of promoting it, they promote the bejesus out of it. Whatever it is a normal year. Mm hmm. So maybe it'll come back next year or Or maybe not. I don't know. You know anything? I suppose it's all on the table. It all could be negotiated right now. Do we feel like we Need the Golden Globes. Do we need it to be a televised event? It would be a bummer to lose it. Frankly, I'd rather lose the Oscars. I would to snore. I agree. I'd rather read about who won. What? At the Oscars. Well, here's what it hears what it took. So there was this big Expose in the Los Angeles Times back on February 21st. This is where the L A Times took them to task on their lack of inclusion and all the junk that they found out what's going on at the Hollywood foreign press. So Tina Tchen The time's up, president and CEO said. This is a defining moment for Hollywood. Today. We have the opportunity to recognize that by speaking up against one powerful but deeply flawed award system. We can begin to re imagine a more equitable industry. She went on to say it took the collective voices. How about this of individual actors, creators and a united front of over 100 publicists? Along with the powerful moral leadership of companies like Netflix, Amazon and Warner media. To make this happen together, we demanded an awards ceremony that is fully inclusive, transparent and respectful. Courage and leadership made a difference. Well. We'll see. Tom Cruise returned his awards. We did. He doesn't want any more male and sent them back yesterday. He said. I don't want him anymore. Yes. Three. Keep the awards. Scarlett Jo Hanson, Mark Ruffalo. They're speaking out against the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. They're demanding change. Netflix. Amazon Warner Media, You know, HBO all cut ties. Uh, it just makes me wonder why All this time. Why? They're just realizing this now, is it Just because we're having that moment. You know where people are becoming more aware. How can you not have been aware that this is just a bunch of white guys? They've even joked about it. Um, during some of the broadcasts. Yeah, well to your point history, pop probably plays a role in this in terms of the moment, the time in history that we're in right now, but But I would agree with you that I'm sure of those 100 publicist or Netflix. Amazon. What? There are people who have been in the know And that does not make The stand or demand for change. That doesn't it doesn't cheapen it because Have changed for the good happens. You kind of you Just take what you can get. Right s o. But But I'm sure that there are people who knew and just didn't care because it wasn't a big deal. And they didn't think even if even if you cared about it I'm sure some people didn't by the way, but even if you cared about it It's not like you thought OK, back in 2000 and 14. This looks shady. I should speak up about this. Well, I'm sure people of color have thought about it. So I'm sure they have absolutely I'm sure they were like, Hey, Excuse me. It is you now have a bunch of white actors who are coming out and sort of trying to lead the charge here. To your point? Yes, I bet that there were some that did know, And it would not have been Advantageous for their career. Like Could you imagine they go to their agent? Their manager? I noticed the Hollywood foreign press seems to be just a bunch of white guys who are voting to set seem off to you. Should we create change? Now? I just want a globe and they're like, Why don't you just quiet down Every time you win a globe? We get millions of more.

"Eight six six ninety right I you know was going to eventually come to this because we predicted this ages ago yeah the British music awards are considering abolishing best male and best female categories to accommodate non binary stars. the days of musicians being voted best male or female artist and Britain's most high profile music awards could be over as boss is considered making the categories gender neutral the change could affect next year's brit awards and come just a week after singer Sam Smith was nominated in the best male category at this year's ceremony pleaded after a lifetime of being at war with my gender. too was they rather than he. well brit awards category such as best newcomer and best single include male and female nominees those for best solo performers have been split by gender since nineteen seventy seven now they may be gone. yes they would have to do this there will eventually they're going to have to do this in every awards. category every award show I know it doesn't matter who's handing them out you're not gonna have Best Actor Best Actress anymore you're gonna have to just one. one together okay then here's the point when let's say more men win then more obvious men yes win than women right the women can't complain. no they will but they they can what you gonna do they'll be they'll be that.
