And he comes in and he taps his wrist and I go with the for talking about and she goes he's in inserted a chip into his wrist. And that's all he has to do now to pay. Kishore Mahbubani says COVID-19 won't stop China's rise

"These days for China there's been an economic slowdown a trade and technology war with America. One of the few issues of bipartisanship in today's Washington then there have been protests in Hong Kong global criticism of Beijing's treatment of the Muslim minorities not to mention Western anxiety about the role of Y in those five G. networks and don't forget the allegations of Chinese interference in sovereign states across the region. Add to this. The outbreak of corona virus or covered nineteen and silently some pundits and they mainly in the West. They're asking whether we're witnessing communist China's Chernobyl moment what do you think well one distinguished intellectual who profoundly disagrees with all this skepticism. He's my guest today. Kishore Mahbubani is distinguished fellow. The Asia Research Institute at the National University of Singapore a former ambassador to the UN twice and a former foreign secretary of Singapore case. Your has risen several influential books on Asia and the rise of China the lightest one is called has China won the Chinese challenge to American Promessi as published by public phase in New York Keisha. Welcome back between the lines. My pleasure there'd be back now you've heard all these. These dial warnings about China and as I say they mainly come from listeners. What do you disagree well? I think it's absolutely certain that the return of China to his place as the number one economy in the world cannot be stopped because from the year one to the eighteen twenty or eighteen hundred of the last two thousand years the two largest economies of the world were always those of China and India so the past two hundred years of Western domination award. History have been an aberration. All aberrations come to a natural end and China's return cannot be stopped. And that's absolutely set. You say in your book that if Xi Jingping does not put in place San Succession mechanisms. America could win this geopolitical contest and bear in mind just a couple years ago. She overturned legislation on. Term Limits for presidents essentially might himself later for life. Some of these critics say that. How does that promote good governance for China and a sound succession mechanism? That will allow China to Rosza Unabated well I would say that the history of China has taught them when they have strong central government. The people benefit a lot. When this week government they suffer a lot and you look at a hundred years of humiliation. That China's suffered from the first opium war of Eighteen. Forty two right until the establishment of the People's Republic of China in nineteen forty nine. The main reason why they went through one hundred years of humiliation was because they had weak central government so what Xi Jinping has given to China is once again very strong central government this is an asset for China. I think he's going to be around as Vita for a long time. And as long as he's around. I think China will do very well. Okay will you say that this geopolitical contest that's broken out between America and China? That will continue marathon. Rice does that mean that Beijing and Washington a doomed to confrontation. Well the the reason why. I'm producing my book now. Has China one his precisely because I want to avoid a confrontation in my. I think it's absolutely unnecessary for the United States and China to get entangled in this confrontation because at the end of the day the primary goal of the United States government is to improve the wellbeing of the American people than the best way to improve the well being of the American people especially in this call. The crisis is to work with China and not work against China but of course unfortunately the United States has other goal and is the primary goal of the United States is to maintain primacy in the global order. Then that will lead to confront To leading American proponents of containing China. John Shaw. The University of Chicago Have Stephen. Walt whom you quoted approvingly in your book about the perils of American Hubris and exceptionalism but on China I disagree. They say I've been guests on this program and I've made this point Measham and casual. They say that a rising China does indeed threaten the regional status quo and Washington moreover will and should go to great lengths to ensure that China does not dominate the Asia. Pacific your response. Well I think the question is whether or not they can both live with each other In the region if if the United States by the way you know all the countries in this region many of them one the United States will remain strong player in this region. I think it'd be good for the region to have United States. Remain as strong Leah. By United States can remain a strong player without on fronting China. He can remain a strong player by working with China In in in many critical areas. And frankly if you ask the countries in the region What they would like to see they would like to see a strong China and they would like to see a strong United States. But they don't want to be forced to choose within China and the United States and we'll get to this question about choosing later on in the show but I want to stick with America. There is a consensus in the region. That America should stay but Foreign Affairs magazine. This is the Distinguished New York Journal to Achieve. Contributed this month. It faces a range of top. Foreign Policy Thinkers. They're all weighing on whether or not the. Us is in the process of global retrenchment The cover of Australia's leading Foreign Affairs Journal. This month is is called can trust America So Am I right in saying you? Don't think American showing any signs of withdrawing from Asia. Now I see no signs at all America retreating from the region and And I think that very strong as you know policy in America is to some extent made by the president but is also made by the deep state and the deep state has a very strong consensus that they got to remain very strongly Industry region. So I don't see an American of withdraw anytime in the near future but I do I do argue that the United States has got to behave differently. With China net once had One tenth the size of China's of America's GNP retailers but today China's be GNP BB. Dems is bigger than the United States. So you behave differently. Was this animal. What about that? Animals DASA more assertive. Now in your book and you listening to Katia Mahbubani. We're chatting about his new book. Has China one in your new book as show you dedicate a chapter to the question is China expansionist and you say basically China wants to respect global rules and norms but let's face it. It has ignored the ruling from the UN's Permanent Court of Arbitration. That was at The Hague in two thousand sixteen. The high concluded for those of you listening who've forgotten about this this is four years ago. Chana's conduct around the Scarborough Shoal and the Spratly islands it was illegal and let's remember Beijing has continued to build up a military prisons on artificial Alan's at drive out local fishermen and in the last few months case. Short Sean has been bullying Indonesia over the Natuna islands. How is all this respecting global order? Well you know one point. I emphasize said there were people talk of benevolent. Great Powers Turn Benevolent Grid. Power is an oxymoron. So as you know the United States today has not ratified the law. The Sea Convention. So in in some areas as China emerged behaving exactly the United States. The United States would never accept going to a tribunal to judge whether or not the United States valid or invalid claiming any area in that respect. China is behaving like the United States by just as the United States. Most of the time respects most international rules and conventions China. Also most of the time respects most of international rules in confections in many ways. China's behavior and America's behaviour is very similar in the international arena. Your critics would say that. China's maritime climbs a contested by the Philippines Malaysia Brunei Indonesia Vietnam Beijing has antagonized nations log New Zealand Australia with cyber attacks and and political interference. Nightside casual these. Not Diplomatic Wins for president. She hasn't he made some big mistakes. Well I it's it's it's interesting. It's always the rest. That is screaming very loud on this South China Sea When was the last time you heard a very strong statement from militia All of all of Philippines On the South China Sea. Why you're seeing behind. What is happening behind the scenes is a lot of diplomacy that is not reported in the Western media. Now I cannot comment on the side of the tax on Shelia and New Zealand but I I believe it was Edward Snowden revealed to us that if you live in today's world you can assume that anything you put up. There is being monitored completely by the National Security Agency of the United States. So I think what the world needs is new conventions in the cyber area and the world should work together do agree on some set of rules for what you can or cannot do in terms of cyber hacking spoke with the New Zealand professor. Anne Marie Bridie last week on this program and she told us about three investigations into Chinese interference in politics that a currently underway in New Zealand. But we WANNA go there now and finished your point. I was quite struck by a law in in your book. He sure well. You talked about the Chinese reluctance to conquer Australia quote. Future historians will marvel at the fact that even though Australia is geographically close to China. It was physically. It was physically occupied in conquered by far more distant British forces absolutely true. I mean if China was an expansionist power wrenching. Her travel all the way to Africa. He could have easily gone to Australia. Additional Australia. Remarkable accident of history. That Australia was colonized by British forces than not Chinese. I mean future. Historians will marvel. The anomaly visits Tom Switzer. On our in 'em I guess is Keisha Mahbubani the former foreign secretary of Singapore and President of the UN Security Council. He's now a distinguished fellow at the National University of Singapore. We're talking about his new book. Has China one now for some of Iran's listeners in Venice Matas whether your overstating China's rise and I WANNA put to you this very rule weakness in limitation surely because many analysts They argue that there's a ticking bomb in China it's low birthright and the aging population and this is the argument that will reduce the workforce and could potentially break social security system. How would you respond to those critics? Oh that's absolutely no question. That China faces a lot of serious Internal Challenges. Because you know it is to instill a developing country It's CABBIE DYING IF I get it right. It's still about ten thousand dollars. One-sixth debt of the United States has a long way to go before it becomes fully developed country. And that's precisely why China wants to focus on its internal development and not get dragged into an all-out geopolitical contests with the United States. So you notice that China wherever possible is trying to avoid getting entangled with the United States even though the United States clearly is challenging the United States challenging the United States charging China In many

"I don't really know how to ask this question but for it do we do. We know how like when h._p. Started to present itself like like is there. Is there an i dea how long h._p. Has been around new. Is it new to us or has it been around for a long time. God knows. I don't know what the stress yes but i know that when i was young because i can say that i mean i was around pre ib. That's how you know aged. I am kinda like dr ruth from a male perspective and <hes> but there was a lot of warts parts and it was especially common amongst men who is having sex with men <hes> so it was around like in the six season and fifties and people didn't really see a particularly link with anything that was happening so it was just a bother eventually salihi when people started looking for a cause of cervical cancer and they looked at the role of a variety of ours is another there's substances but they specifically looked at h._d._t._v. and they suspect also looked at her ps and whether herpes at a role this is when it was discovered that at h._p. Was a causative factor of many cancers and hence why mount of studies that have gone up at been done since dan to sort of get us to know more about this vars right right now. The technology wasn't around now. There's more more technology right of course right and developing all the time. 'cause you know one of the questions was like why don't we have better tests so i guess that's the answer is we're still figuring figuring out well. We do have a test that <hes> is easter to do which is as i mentioned detection the virus itself in order the parts of the virus because it's not that we look for the virus like a like a culture that we do with bacteria. We don't take the sample sample and make grow on a medium what it is is that we look and try to identify certain parts of the virus that are done <hes> using a matching sort of system and <hes> and those parts are identified. It's more or less how <hes> the h._i._v. Tests says run <hes> so it's very similar in that way <hes> because the fourth generation h._i._v. tasks also look for viral particles which is why we can now. Don't get <hes> h._i._v. Results much faster than or reliable results much faster than we could in the past <hes> so those tests are useful but they're only useful in women and there hasn't been anything commercially developed for men not that it can't be done we do to within our studies <hes> but it isn't done. It isn't available commercially cannot be easily done at this. Turn me on we'll be right back. After this word from response all right well moving on to a question that we get a lot yeah yeah we get a loss and actually this is this is one that that you know this subject comes up a lot on the show and with our guests and between bridie and i ryan between our our guest that we have in our our listeners but i feel like this is a good one to bring up for you with you dr t. How do you best manage safe sex in a group sex environment <hes> you mean other than a total latex and or bodysuit designed by terry tears. I'm not quite sure yes aside from that. Well i mean yeah. It seems like it's a pretty daunting task or a task. That would be extremely extremely challenging considering considering hey franz..

Exactly. And then meanwhile, was he Bethany and she's in her she's in her car Alba's driving, and she's like, okay, Abby. So you think that we have enough time to go to Ramona's event and the Victoria's Secret fashion show are now is like, I don't know. There's a lot of traffic. I don't know if we can do both. So just eight you think that that's the I cannot make it through Ramona's correctly gadoe. No, all right. So for the record television audience, I do want to go to Ramona's. But Albie, my driver who I pay has a knowledge of the New York City streets and traffic and based on his tank measurements. I have to go to Victoria's Secret fashion show. And that's the way it is. "I'm not saying Brady is that at all. I'm just saying I just I'm just thinking about Goldie Hawn. Can I just have that this table of made me think of? Sesame? I think it Sesame Street where they have those weird looking little marionette puppets. They'll have crazy faces. That's what the friends looked like. Yeah. It reminded me of. It was like a Genesis video from like eighty eight you know, those weird puppets. Yeah. I the way terrifying. I think I think we all ingredients. It was pretty scary. Yeah. So Ramona is like, well, this is my friend. Caroline. She opened the Hamptons wit what she said, maybe she meant you had a party that opened the Hampton season or something like that. And then she opened the Hamptons curious started the Hamptons K. Well, because why wanted stay as ageless possible? All I decided to hang out with younger people. It's just seems like because I took I looked so good for my age these men and women in their thirties and forties approach me all the time. And you know, why I'd like to any candidate make me feel younger. So why not get crazy just all kinds of young people approach me young men? Young women young puppies and eggs before they even if you haven't hung out with before telling you what you have to come up with a lot of conversation, but it's worth it. Yeah. Yeah. The things I ever felt was that twice. I dropped on the floor, and I just killed my friend. Okay. Don't tell anyone. So she's like, okay. Let me tell you why I'm here. So birdie found me through safe horizon, which for domestic abuse and her charity your clubs kit for sexually abused children. Terrific or can't get chills us. I talk about it right now. It only wanna talk about it. All right. That's it gift check. I only wanna talk about it right now. I wanna talk about it goodbye for our weight yourself to plan a fundraiser Ramona. So birdie J story. Well, my name is bridie. And she tells the story of that horrific story about being molested for month month, and then once you finally had the strength to say something about it the statute of limitations had already expired, so the guys out there and not not a problem like this charity. Not for us to do away with the limitations on on victims. Right. And so two renters like we he found gas. You would boycotting this city CONCACAF you in the pilot guys surrender starting to get in there with her questions in all ready started to kind of cringe, even the her question wasn't bad because I just remembered Durant a drunk with Bethany when they went out of town with Beth niece charity people, and they're like we help get people into college. And during this like people, a goons ecology me Kim may. So Ramona is like very excited to take up this cause entries excited that that bridie has come to her because she's like, well Burri knows it on an influence her K with a lot of friends who support me sport any 'cause I believe in for instance, all I believe in the cause of hanging out with my best friend slash daughter. Avery can't even tell us a what I believe in the cost sitting at whatever table, you'd think you're assigned at the angel born with that charity. I believe in being ageless carry..

You can play by yourself without a partner. What's that poor girl doing and so she's out of there? She leaves right. When the by the way, when she says I have to let the babysitter go like my first instinct was like, you're rich like your babysitter can last another like forty five minutes. But then I realized that she actually probably like tied up the babysitter shelter in a closet, and it's like now, it's like, okay. I got I got a letter of the closet otherwise you could pee in there. What matters is chained to a radiator like, please. I mean, I promise I let him off the radiata. "Pskov the cake. Also, I did the set podcast with Laura this week right after we did our Vander pump rules podcast. So I did a nice four hours deep dive. Trump rule this week. The Lara win is like to a little over to you. So go check that Laura. She has a great show that is so funny because I was thinking about texting it'd be like, hey, I wanna come back on your show. But now don't sound like I'm being competitive. Well, there you go. I'm not going to you for like a few more weeks. Well, I just live down the street from her and her person who dropped out. So I was like, oh, sure. Why not? I don't need to shut up the hell What are down. they gonna do play video games? Right over, ma'am. Well, everyone go listen to that. Because you too Richard with the funniest people. I know. That was really fun. We talked about a lot of Andhra pump rules, conspiracies and drug addictions and stuff like that. It was fun. And yes ago, listen and today is the cringe assed episode. That we've had in a long time if real housewives of New York, I know at least seven days. Wow. Size of New York. Wow. Kill and by cringes hysterical because I was cracking up at the end they're cracking up freely. Fucking funny. So and also horrible. So let's get into it shall we being? Yes. That's a very spooky episode. This one takes place of Halloween because Canas land is finally doing her big Halloween party in the Kempton hotel. And the episode opens up with Luan and her sweet. And a lady named Mary who's your makeup artists comes in. And she's like, I'm your psychiatrist which unfortunately is also probably true. Well, they laughed so hard when she said psychiatrist, I mean, the laughing never stops. She's like, I'm your psychiatrist. Because Luana go to a psychiatrist is like the biggest joke in town luanne go to a psychiatrist me. I'll tell you what my psychiatric is saying the word psychiatry wrong. If I need any help at all, it's with a step all change. I mean, that's a real bitch. Yeah. So Victoria shows up and she's going to be like an escapee patient at this big party. "It's bullseye. This week KARN. Kusaba tries to get need watch scary movies. But that's not all she just directed. A brilliant new film called destroyer stars, Nicole Kidman. It's getting a lot of awards buzz. She'll talk about that plus vital insights into how she sees herself. As an artist see for me. It's like if I were to become, you know, my own version of Thomas can Kate. It might be that painting with like a young woman at the edge of lake like puking into it. But first, Chris and bridie Elliot, Chris is of course, the veteran comedy actor writer, he's starring in a new film, which was written and directed by Brighty is historic. And guess what? It's another scary movie. Also, very humid sort of like, a the who's afraid of Virginia Woolf. Yeah. Yes. Evening of just getting more and more abbreviated chaotic. People's masks falling off, and that's those are the kind of movies. I really are drawn to and it's you're you're just seeing characters kind of devolving to their most terrible selves. That's all coming up on bullseye. Let's go. It's Jesse thorn, my guests this week, Chris and bridie Elliott, our father and daughter, Chris is, of course, Chris Elliott, the star of the film cabin boy a regular on. Everybody loves Raymond these days. One of the stars on the TV show. Shits S C H I T T S shits creek. The man behind so many memorable late night with David Letterman characters the man who lives under the stairs. Chris Elliott junior the Morton Downey junior parody. And of course, his Marlon Brando impression in which he at one point dressed up as Marlon Brando held a bunch of bananas. And did a weird dance. Pranzi dance for a little while. We'll talk more about that later wouldn't want to let that slide bias bridie. Chris Elliott's daughter wrote and directed the new movie called Clara's ghost, which you can buy and rent. Now, it's a family collaboration. Bridie also stars in the movie along with Chris righty sister, Abby who you might know from film and television, including Saturday Night, Live and her mother Paula and in its own way. It is also kind of a horror movie, it's the story of the Reynolds family who live in a secluded mansion in New England Chris's character Ted is the patriarch the comedian whose past his. Prime his daughters worked in show business too. But like their dad their careers aren't exactly sparkling, then there's Clara played by Paula Elliott Clara is not a performer, and she also finds herself at the end of a lot of jokes around her family. The movie takes place over one night Clara has discovered a ghost that only. She can see and the ghost at least at first kind of adopts a life coach role like in this scene from earlier in the movie, the Reynolds family is eating dinner and Clara just broken nail. Oh god. Oh, wow. Loud. Broken. They all your pinky. Now, you're cope nail my mom really enjoyed cocaine. Woman in her day. She was a snowplow. It was advertised as a healthy alternative to alcohol. I'm sorry, sweetie. I don't remember cocaine advertisements.

"It's bowls. I I'm Jesse thorn. I'm here with bridie Elliott and her dad comedian, Chris Elliott bridie wrote and directed the new movie Clara's ghost, which is available to rent and buy online. Now, it is a weird scary. And sometimes deeply deeply funny movie. Starring the entire Elliott family. Chris bridie, Abby and Paula. Is it weird to have a dad who's has this show business career that is? Entirely meaningless to most. Like profoundly meaningful to some. You never know if somebody figures out your dad is Chris Elliott, you never know whether they're you're they're going to like make you list his credits until you get to, you know, everybody loves Raymond. They'll be like. I like that anti candler fan. But. And then or if they're going to be like, oh my God. Lou new license plate. I'm Jimmy Kimble. Yeah. Yeah. I've gone on some dates where it's like a little. Will you marry me to Moro hang and it's gross. But. No, I think it actually has you know, made me. Possibly more cynical about the whole thing. The whole idea of what successes and what it means. And but also more realistic. And I do think, you know, I did not go into this business with stars in my eyes or any sort of expectation of, you know, well, I come from success. I'm going to have to you know, be successful right away. I think I think for me, it's it's been more like, oh, it's all on a luge in and unpredictable and weird. And that's made it in more recent years, you know, more freeing, I think I think I definitely when I said that I was like, oh, that's a lie. Totally expected. I totally expected to be successful right away. Because it happened for, you know, Abby, very fast and. And then, you know, it was sort of I kind of had to shed that to you know, then take baby steps. But, but yeah, I think I think once when you were on eagle heart, and like, you know, the people that were watching it were obsessed, and then the people that hadn't heard of it. You know, had no idea what it was like, I think that was indicative to me of like, okay? Like, it's really all you know, the world is a different place than you know, I yeah. I mean, there's so many. I dunno opportunities venues places to go. You know, it's it's hard to define what is success, you know, right now. And I you know, I've never felt like my career. I I've been very lucky and really happy that I've been able especially thanks to Dave was able to have a house early on and raise a family and and have a regular income. And all that you're like twenty five win abbey was born or now you're twenty five when you got married they were just young when you guys settled down. Yeah. We we were. And I was talking to mom about it was like we were kind of playing house because we we were kids who could, you know, living in we bought a house, and we were living in an Abraham with older people, you know, and having cocktails and a bar in our house. It was like we were just pretending. You know for longtime. It's sort of felt like that. And that's how we got into it. But I don't the idea of success there. You can do something nowadays and work for twenty years. And or you know, fifteen and people don't know what you're doing. But you're buying house..

"But it really came from my dad had given me a book when I was a kid called the search for Brighty Murphy, which was about a woman who was hypnotized in the nineteen fifties and went back regressed in life. She lived in Westchester. But thought she was a maid in Ireland named bridie Murphy and she talked with brogue accent. She could dance a jig. This is she's a fiction your father gave you it's a real real story nonfiction nonfiction, and they actually put out in and they put out LP's of the for the sessions when you can hear her suddenly start talking in this Irish Brogan doing an, oh, I'm going down to see father O'Malley later on today and do all this better than that. No. That's. Probably better than what she did. But. I don't do. Dial two. Okay. Even say that. Well, I'm doing Chris Elliott right now. They did do some research, and they went back to county cork or wherever she said, she was from they could not find bridie Murphy, but they could find the other people that she had been talking about. And so they're still a question Mark as to whether it was real or whether she was in on it with the hypnotists or whatever. And how old were you? When you're you were ready for this material. It was after they showed me psycho. Sure, I think I was about five when I agree with that order. And I was fascinated by it, and I had I kept the albums all my life. And I love that name bridie is a version of Bridget. And and so I'd never heard of that name came from. I'd never heard it before. I saw her name had never heard the name on Twitter. Yeah. Yeah. No. I thought they were some missing letters. Right, right. Yeah. A lot of people. Do we gave her the choice? You know, we put Bridget I think on our birth certificate. We call her bridie from the start and gave her the choice. You can go either way and she's stuck with bride. Yeah. And she I think she I remember seeing a maybe reach tweeting a short film. I want to say that she wrote into recommend there's been yet. She wrote a couple of years ago movie called affections which went to Sundance and got some acclaimed got some good reviews. And then so now she's done her first feature, which is called Clara's ghost, not Clara Clara. Believe me. She corrected me several times on set. And did you ask her about that distinction in how frustrating it might be for you later when talking thinks she saw how frustrating was during the shooting for everybody who to she had her own made up. Yeah. You don't know. How many times she's been called Brady do and do somebody somebody once said, oh, your name's bright? I'll never forget that name. What a what a wonderful name bright. But so she's written this Clara. This is a movie about a family of entertainers, two daughters, and a father who are in the entertainment business who are really not nice people. They're very self centered and all that and like in most families, you know, the mother is kind of the brunt of a lot of humor in a families, even families that aren't showbiz family. Right. And this is about Clara who is the mother who finally start seeing a spirit a ghost that gives her some courage to stand tour and be independent, and we're all playing this was shot in our house, Abby my other daughter plays. The other daughter in the role, and my real wife, Paula place Clara, and we're all playing kind of heightened negative versions of ourselves. Sure. Which may be the most fun. Yes. Yeah. I did a little talked about stand up special on HBO. And my favorite thing in the world was doing that. Heightened reality version evil version of myself. You, you know, the comedian and director David Steinberg. Yes, he's a friend. Dear love him Adly. So he directed my one hour HBO spectrum, and I had some writers. And I wanted to do some sketches along with the Dand up and he came in one day and Madonna's tooth Adere movie. "WTVN one eight hundred six ten WTVN is this a money grab that's going on with this this new law now making it easier for police ticket drivers for distracted driving their broadening the distracted driving to include all kinds of stuff that's not necessarily. You know would be an offence. If you're I guess it's pretty much open to whatever, but feels like a money grab. Or is. It proponents are saying the laws going to help make Ohio roads, safer, rich. Thank you for waiting. You're on six ten WTVN. What's up, brother? The. Distracted driving and everything. Sure, why everybody keeps spending all this time and money and effort on legislation when the law in place already that covers everything it's reckless operation. And that is described as a basically a disregard for public personal property while driving and if you're doing things that. Put the property at risk while driving that falls under that category. And I think it should be you know, you can be pulled over for that. By a predicate offense. Well, that's a good point too rich because you're right. If you're you're threatening a person or the property or whatever, and texting is at the root of it then. Yeah. That would fall under reckless up. Thanks, man. That's actually a really good point. But for whatever reason they're getting more and more intricate with it, Sherry thank you for waiting. You're on sixteen WTVN. How do you feel about this? Oh my gosh. I am so passionate about this topic. I deal with distracted driving mainly in regards a cellphone every single day to and from work on major highways and thoroughfares, and I would not be opposed to giving officers the ability to pull somebody over while they're stopped at a stop light. Or whatever if they are texting my question to you, though is if you think sitting at a stop light, and texting is not an offence is also sitting a light and not moving while you're drinking alcohol beverage, also not an offense. No, absolutely. It is. And and I don't know how you're comparing those Sherry I'm gonna go with you on it. But I I can tell you why. Those are two that's apples and oranges. I mean, if you're sitting at a red light, you're going to take your foot off of the break and continue driving. If you're tilting back, a a beer or you've been drinking a beer, you're now impaired that moves forward with you. So it'd be in your system if you stopped texting then the threat goes away at that point once you begin moving, correct. And the question is if you stop texting absolutely, no. And I'm going off of if you do stop tech. Let's say let's say somehow some way you have the ability you have the discipline to stop in the middle, even if you haven't finished attacks, but you gotta move because the light changed, and you literally laid it down. I don't think that you should be in trouble for that. If you laid it down, and then began moving I just feel like, you know, at that point. You're not continuing to do it. Now, you bring up a great point a lot. How many people actually do that? Right. I mean, not very many Evani. Would be they would go. Oh, I just got one more word type or one more thought or blah. And if they're continuing to do that. Well, now, that's all that's our off. If you're moving an operating a vehicle a motor vehicle while it's moving you should not be texting and driving. I'm certainly not trying to say that in certain situations. It's okay. I'm just saying if you're literally sitting still, and it doesn't require you to use your judgement of what's in front of you or whatever you're literally sitting still and you're doing that. They can they can ticket you for that. Which I feel like that particular, and and maybe I'm splitting hairs, but that particular instance, you're not technically driving right that second. Right. And I understand, but we have to use common sense as well. Like posted the drinking bottled water or see now, I don't have any. I don't have any common sense. There you go. Right. I don't I can't help you there. But I know, but I do know what you're saying. I mean, if you're drinking a bottle of water and you smash into somebody. That's I mean, what's the difference? Right. I mean, you were distracted. Correct. It was a different form. But you were distracted true. And I would agree with the women putting on makeup as well. I personally don't do it myself. But that's ridiculous. But I would be willing to give up my right to text in my vehicle at any point in time in order to save lives because other people can't get over it. Yeah. No question on that. Sherry thank you for participating. Thanks for calling. I I really appreciate that. Ed. Thank you for waiting. You're on six ten WTVN. What you got brother? I have no expertise in walls or anything. But I have a friend who was in like. Had too much to drink. He was setting behind his steering wheel. Not in the ignition a policeman and went by saw him and had he been out of the vehicle. Bridie test, and he got a DUI. At the curb behind a wheel not in the ignition. And puzzles me this one puzzles me, I I'm with you on this, man. I I don't know that I buy if you're in the vehicle just because you're drunk of you, don't especially if you know, it's not running or you. I guess it's because you have the ability to do that. But I'm I have to go with you, Ed, if that's where you're going with this is like that always puzzled me, okay? I think I have been driving at night, and I have seen in the last two or three years to Franklin county sheriff cars and free Ohio highway patrol cars that guide toward driving the sheriffs were on west broad street. And the however were on seventy it was clear to me that they were on their, laptops. Yup. In their vehicle. Do their laptop while they were driving. So I guess anything. They're so good and their bulletproof and nothing's going to happen to them for them to be using their, laptops. Cruiser. Wow, they're driving. Well, that's a great point.
