Conn. woman 1st non-Vermonter granted assisted suicide right

"A woman from Connecticut has become the first non resident granted the right to take advantage of Vermont's assisted suicide law. 75 year old Linda bluestein has terminal cancer. One thing that surprised me about getting this latest terminal diagnosis is just how hard it is to die the way you want to die. It seems like everybody has an opinion on what should be allowed and what shouldn't be allowed. Bluestein lives in Bridgeport, Connecticut, and has reached a settlement with the state of Vermont, she can end her life there as long as she complies with other aspects of the state's assisted suicide law. I care so deeply about how the last moment of my life is going to go. Because I've said goodbye to so many that I've loved, who didn't have a good depth. Bluestein wants to make her death better. Not only for me, but for the people who are going to remember that. For whom that's going to be their last memory of me. Blue Stein is currently undergoing chemotherapy. I'm Ed Donahue

"Met clarence Thomas one of these fortunate episodes in 1983. I was a senior in college, I was interning in D.C. and vice president Bush was going up to campaign of all things for my uncle, who was the Republican mayor of Bridgeport, Connecticut. He was a conservative. It was 5 to one Democrat registration and Bridgeport, the Democrats kept running the loser in the primary as the independent in any event. George wishes going up there, I was invited to fly up in the air force two. To go to the event. And up in Bridgeport was clarence Thomas, who was at another event, he was the eeoc chairman at the time. And my mentor was a gentleman by the name of Tom lady who became the ambassador to the Vatican under Bush 41. But he was hosting clarence Thomas. And after those two events, we met at a hotel lobby with Vassar maladie and wanted justice Thomas clarence Thomas's aides and talked for about an hour. And he was electrifying, right? He was just full of energy, full of ideas, the nicest guy, just you know him, did he just, yeah, so he made an impact on me. And that was the only time I met him at that time, but it made an impact. Flash forward to 1989. I'm in the Bush 41 White House. I'm working on judicial selection. And being young, I think it was 26, a volunteering when we were looking at clarence Thomas for the D.C. circuit. And so I offered to reach out to him and other people had talked to him informally, but this was kind of the first time the judicial selection committee and I think February of 89 met to decide, okay, what are we doing about the D.C. circuit? I reached out to justice Thomas, young aide in The White House. He's a German the EOC couldn't have been nicer. We ended up talking for an hour. I told him I wanted to get him to send me all of his speeches, articles, all that kind of stuff so we could do that due diligence, right? Long before the Internet, right? Get stuff in paper. So he sent over everything. I still have the letter. It's dated March of 89 somewhere in there. And that became or began our friendship. Where I loved reading his stuff, right? So when you talk about did I recognize yes. This guy was principal, a fighter at that time he was calling out Congress for their hypocrisy and their craziness or he had been a chairman of the EEOC. They had had something like 60 oversight hearings, right? And then you had the black leadership continually pounding clearance Thomas. And you see him standing up and not bending,

"WPK and Bridgeport bob Johnson here. Welcome to our last hour of music. Coming right up is a performance by Cass Elliot from mister Kelly's in Chicago. Good evening. And welcome to mister Kelly's. What we'd like to do is a very casual show. And maybe perhaps you can pretend that you're in my living room. Of course, the drinks wouldn't be so watered. I guarantee you. I'll explain about the cane, the cane is because about three months ago, I had an accident. I slipped and fell. In my own kitchen. I don't know, why couldn't it have been Howard's users kitchen? Or even Howard Johnson's kitchen? Anyway, it was my kitchen. And I had one of those cartilage operations on my knee. Real football injury. Just when I was getting down to fighting weight too. However. The doctor says that I'll just have to use this for a few more weeks and then I'll be able to put the roller skating number back into the act. And possibly the military toe temp, which is my thing. Until that time, you're just going to have to content yourselves as watching me scuff up the stage with my rubber tip. When I left The Mamas & the Papas, which has now been about four and a half years ago. I had someone of a problem because we had all used our first names in the act. It was mama Cass and mama Michelle and Papa John and papa Dani. And people called me mama cash all the time. I mean, they didn't even know they thought my first name was mama. They would call me. Miss Cass, you know, or miss mama if they were from the south. Don't

"Allows them to be so good, defensively, despite the fact I think that nobody or not in terms of the defensive end does something like South Carolina, for example. Sure. So I think that's part of it. And then also their offense is just, it has that kind of like, it's just pretty good time. Better way to put it. Yeah. It can be just pretty. I think the only weakness of the Stanford team is still trying to roll over a lot of saw it against Texas and 20 turnovers to get to Texas. And they'll be they still as much as in a Wilson has evolved to Susan to found a better answer at that point. That's why they still just don't have a natural answer at that spot, which I think is if you're trying to find something that's a big risk for the skipper team, that's it. If you come to a winter game, you're going to have to exploit that in time. Yeah, I mean, I think initial reactants after watching Stanford for so many games this year, especially probably over analyzing that Texas game. And it really played that much after the first quarter. And I think Lexi will probably majority of the volume. Calling out big opportunity for instance. This is a perfect opportunity for it to disrupt everything. And then she's got size at the cart spot too. I'm excited. It's going to be hard to wait till Friday. Yeah, it's going to be a good game. So that'll turn the time. Probably the 6 different collections. I kind of don't like my phone analysis, but I think it's going to be a really tough game for you. I think losing door for you has today also really helps you or hurt you in that game because they've had this ability to rotate the post players and when you're in college or you have a door there's an option after that losing lesson. This is something genome has said this season of why he recruited doctor out of the transfer portal that she was going to be kind of that different major between them being able to win a national championship did not and I think it's as much as people maybe don't see it super fast like that flashy like it is a huge blow for this team to lose target U.S. at this point. Absolutely. I mean, we saw a veena Westbrook come in and play kind of that four spots of I'll have to do that time to get the cloud trouble. It's weird. There's still, you got to play one game. So anything can happen, but really looking forward to it. I know that you are to see it in person. Yeah. Very much looking forward to getting to Minneapolis. Think we're going to leave you with that today. No, I just thankful to be at one of the best basketball games of all time. So signing off from Bridgeport, but don't worry if the podcast will be back. "Those of you who bet the other is obviously there are 56 points scored in overtime. Mind-blowing. Yeah. Yeah. And you have to have three things that I think we've seen so many upsets in this fall short because teams do not hide free throws down the strategy that you can avoid being what constant literacy. And in this game, but it very well could have been what caused public citizen. It's scary to think about. If Fenty state just hits another bucket and over time and we go back to that point, you know, not everybody is talking about age Becker, so I'm sure it's trending all over Twitter today. I mean, I don't know about you, but it felt like every time she got the ball with a sliver of space. And most of her shots were off the dribble too. They weren't easy. They were pull ups coming off screens. But either way, Oliver shots, I felt like they were going on. Yeah, I don't think we saw today the page vector site you saw last year and let you saw before her. The type of player you just in those moments is almost, like you said, you feel like you just know they're going in. Just kind of like, you know, set it made for these moments. This is different. I think Kristen Williams actually for the past is what they were in overtime with just the way we have such he was thinking it's that we have. God, yeah. The crazy amount of confidence that lady has is mind-blowing and you factor that in with one of the best shooters in the planet surrounding you. Maybe the two of the best years of crystalline. You want to throw her in too. I mean, I don't think you could have treated fans to a better display of basketball today. It was all around a semi perfect game. Gino said that sucks at one team had to lose today because both teams played so fantastic. Yeah, exactly. I mean, just a word. Excellent game. It felt like these were two final four games that kind of gave that you want to see in the final four. It happens literally. But that's part of the world is getting better so much better. Going forward. But yeah, I mean, I feel like you just can't say enough about what back into the couple starts 27 points. By far the most useful to coming back from injury. I feel like until today's game I've kind of felt like she hasn't been at a 100%. You see him flashes her being like the people have come to expect that you haven't seen it in like a big stretch of it today. And I think the overtime here is a special tonight, it was just like it was the page that goes to her, but that's ultimately what south became. This had to be the most minute she's played all season. Oh yeah. She had four years. 44, 44 minutes. Yeah. So I mean, you can probably say, I mean, you know, probably said she's still not a 100%, but still, as close as you can be. You love seeing her being able to go that many minutes. Obviously, NC state losing a lot of seniors and I don't know how it all shakes out with COVID, but obviously the program is tremendous drive from where it's been the last few years. The west warrants building something awesome. So I can't say enough great things about them. I'm going to miss seeing random Perez. Just a lighting bug all overboard. She's so fun to watch. Yeah, I definitely play hope can get just trying to catch spa or something. I don't know. I'm not top of my dress yet. So I don't know how probable that actually is, but yeah, it's a really fun player to watch, but yeah. I mean, I think for that, but still actually you can't say enough about what this empty state program has done over the last few years, especially with community ACC championships, three straight street 16 things like that get to an early 8 this year. Of course, I would have been better if they made it to the final four, but still a really phenomenal project in the rest of the years. To go out like this, you can't ask for much more in terms of basketball game. Definitely. Now, before we end, you know, I do want to look ahead. Yeah. You will be there at the time. Yes. We got a plane to Minneapolis Wednesday. Very excited. In my opinion, I guess this is hard to say because you have South Carolina on the other side, but Stanford probably maybe next week on maybe next South Carolina. Either way, I think they're the hottest team in the country right now. Haven't lost since, I don't know, January. Ran through the fact 12 ran through the factual tournament. And haven't launched yet obviously in this late term. So how do you feel about Newcomb's chances against this hot Stanford team? I think Stanford is a really difficult I agree with you. I think they are the hottest of the country right now, I think. Just what makes them so unique is their size. I feel like their defense is almost like underrated in a way because they don't defend you in the way that the South Carolina defects you or you're going to use time to find you. It's not as much of a in your face defense, but they just have size that every single position that allows them to be so good, defensively, despite the fact I think that nobody or not in terms of the defensive end does something like South Carolina, for example..

"Korea, but then NC state fans that were here were allowed as we're not surprisingly the Notre-Dame fans and especially as they were kind of rev up about the upset and the crowd did fill in and by the end of the game. Again, maybe those were all Yukon fans who got here early for the 2 o'clock tip. But that was great. So I felt like a really good atmosphere. I was really happy to see that. And then I was also struck even though the game felt well in hand for pretty much the entire second half. Yeah, it still felt really engaged with the Yukon fans and the Indiana fans. People were so excited they were getting worked up about calls down either up or down 15 and so it was just really nice to see. But I do think overall, right? It's kind of funny. I think my overall takeaway is probably Notre-Dame and Olivia miles, even though they didn't move on to play on Monday. Easily the most compelling thing I saw. Was her play. Her confidence. I mean, whether it was a Euro step, a double clutch or just a step back three. I mean, I think she really has a lot of things in her bag. And I mean, I tweeted earlier. So I still can not believe she's a freshman. Yeah, some people debate that, but I will say because we were, I was looking that up as we were talking about it. Like, she only played, I think, a 130 minutes last year. She played 6 games. She's played over a thousand. I think almost 1100 this year, probably definitely over 1100 today. So she only played like issue a freshman or not, 'cause she was around. I mean, she only played maybe 12% of a season or something. Yeah. So and it was not a clutch minutes, right? And not a team that made the tournament. So I mean, it helps to be there. I'm not saying that, but you know, she's probably closer to a true freshman than a true sophomore for sure. Yeah. Absolutely. Okay, well I think it's going to wrap it up for us here. We hope you enjoyed the short recap of these two games and what we're looking forward to on Monday. Who's your pick? I think I gotta pick NC state. I think if your only watch today, you would not say that. So, but again, we've already seen upsets, and I think over the course of the season they've been better, and I'm just still not gonna believe that they're gonna lose in the tournament until they lose. And they could lose and I won't be shocked, 'cause I definitely think it's close to a coin flip. And maybe the Yukon home court advantage factor will tip the scales, but the thing we were talking about was on slacks. I'm going long, I know. But I think it's fascinating kind of what the Yukon name means that it's different playing in Bridgeport, Connecticut, than other places, but like I don't think NC state is intimidated by UConn in the way that they would have been in 2016. Team obviously has a ton of cachet. But these players, what? They were probably in 7th and 8th grade, the last time Yukon won a title. I started making on a podcast recently. Can you believe there are kids graduating from Ukraine that have never seen their team win on that? And so, you know, it's a short memory and there have been some battles, but I just don't think NC state is going to be they've got enough experience to not be intimidated by the fact that we're here in Connecticut. So I'm guessing you disagree, which always makes good radio. I mean, part of me wants to, but before the bracket was released, I do have a future on NC state to make the final four. How many other features do you have, by the way? Three? So I have that. I have Stanford at plus 600 to win it all. And then I saw Louisville plus 1800, which if you looked at our simulation, this was a pretty sweet 16. Right. If you look at the simulations, they have a 12% chance to win it all. Isn't that high? Was ten or 12 for Louisville? I thought it was. It was ten or 12 and they had 1700 plus 1700 odds so for the people that wasn't our podcast, they can't do the math. What does that roughly in terms of implied probability? Can you do the math on the top of your? What, 1.7? Isn't it? No, it would be like a 6 or 7% chance, right? Oh, 1700. Even my name is a hundred. It doesn't plus you're right, you're right, right. Okay. But still way better odds in, I mean, it was about equal to almost note. I think that's smart. Yeah, that seems undervalued. I still am doubtful they will win it all, but that seems undervalued relatively. Yeah, well, she also has doubters and Louisville status and Barack Obama and Jimmy Fallon. Oh, really? I've not been here. Let's say they have a lot of doubters, but no, I think I will take Yukon just because kind of like I still am waiting for that symmetry Yukon game. Even though we really haven't had a signature Yukon team as of late in the recent years. And I feel like we haven't had a big page backers moment, but I mean, if you watch move around, she looks healthy. It's just the confidence to take over is kind of what I'm waiting for. So I'm rolling with Yukon. And then next game. Okay. Going to the final four. In front of all the lovely husky fans here in Bridgeport. Well, it's going to be rocking either way. I think there's no doubt about that. Whether they're winning or losing at the end, however they step off. It's going to be an amazing, amazing scene, and a great showcase for college basketball. Definitely. All right, thank you so much, Aaron. Thank you. Always a pleasure. Absolutely. We're rolling out. We'll see you on Monday..

"True. You and I will be there, Megan. Is there a Bridgeport Rhode Island? Because I think I might be who knows. I feel like New England reuses a lot of town names, so they're probably is. Newport Rhode Island, maybe you've heard of that, right? I think my sister and my dad went to a Bridgeport Rhode Island if it exists. If not, they want to connect. Regardless. That region is there specifically not specifically, but it is like kind of tailored towards Yukon. It is meant to bring in their fans to have really good women's basketball games because they have been a hub of women's basketball for so many years. So they are going to get at least some sort of advantage from being close to the home in the, if they get out of the first two rounds because obviously the first two rounds will be at their home stadium in stores. If they get out of the first two rounds, gets a street 16 in the lead 8, they're going to have a mass not a massive advantage, but at least some advantage over the other teams because their fans are already there. So I think you have to factor it in and believing that they can go far. Yeah, I mean, it's going to be, I would expect Bridgeport to be a home court type environment. I think you saw it at the biggies tournament last week, when you can sign, which is basically about the same amount of distance from stores this Bridgeport is. So you're going to see a lot of your confidence there. They turned out loud for the biggie's tournament, which I was you can't probably has a lot less implications than March Madness regional. So I think you could expect it. But it was in Connecticut though, right? So I'm not sure about that. Were you at the Albany regional? I think that's what 2019. What was that? It was also a UConn crowd. You can fence travel. I mean, until this year, really you could count on Yukon probably being the number one seed in that regional at home because they had up until every two, three years ago. They were easily undefeated one loss going into the postseason you knew they were going to be the number one seed of that region. So those bands of the travel involved to get 6 months ago. And I guess the final four is I've been to certainly I've seen the Yukon fans travel well. But yeah, I think that I guess I'm a little bit of a contrarian actually. I think I'm not as high as you can. I remember, I think making you an I spoke about this once, maybe in like January. I'm not sure we've ever actually seen them be essentially one of the, I don't know, 8 to ten best teams in the country. They've been like potential the whole time. You've talked about because they've had this crazy journey. I think, as you said, Gabe, if they're healthy, if they're clicking no doubt, right? In particular, beckers is talent, but if she's not a 100%, I think it's a challenge. I think I would be a contrarian. I think everyone's kind of penciling him in smash penciling them out of the Bridgeport regional because it's going to be in Connecticut. But I think that I think I'm going to go the other way on this one. I think NC state is not going to be intimidated by them, right? They've been playing at a very high level for a long time. And I do think it's one question I was thinking to myself as you were talking Gabe is I wonder how much the Yukon brand really intimidates teams now versus say 5 years ago, right? Is it sort of like Notre-Dame football where there's the rich tradition? Are we starting to get to the point where they're a good team? But not sort of what they were it's actually during Briana Stewart or my wars heyday. Yeah, I mean, I actually, I mean, not to spoiler alert. I actually have them losing in the elite 8 because I think in the end a bad match for them. And in the end, on the other side also has injury issues. That's why I think the road is kind of paved a little bit. Nicely for Yukon if Indiana is hurt and Paige Becker's is not a 100%. Well, those two cancel out and then we'll see what happens in the late 8. But yeah, I don't know. I'm still afraid of be afraid of you. Honestly. It's Gino. It's not that far removed from these from these people cutting down the nets. And the amount of media coverage that easy and page generate. I think it is in and of itself intimidating. You've seen their highlights. Where the odds that they've seen your highlights, if they haven't been watching you on tape, right? So I think to me, I do think there's still a little bit of intimidation factor. Also, I was thinking about Bridgeport West Virginia. Okay. Very lovely covered bridge that's in one of my favorite video games, Red Dead Redemption two. That's what I was thinking about. My kids haven't gotten Red Dead Redemption two. It's a game for all ages, as long as those ages are above 18. But yes, I don't know. Megan, do you still think there's that mystique around the program? I feel like there is. I think sometimes, but I think there's definitely a little less of it. I think you see it in Villanova coming into you kind of beating you kind this year. I think if you come into that game scared, you don't win it. It doesn't, if you come in with that with that attitude, you're not going to win. And I think we've seen it. And some of their closer biggie schemes this year. So I don't necessarily think it's as prominent. I think with this, you come to the way you can't have banned the past few years. Yeah, they still get a lot, but they haven't won as much. They're not one or 200 number ones undefeated going into the postseason. Like some of those past you come teams have been a hundred straight wins, all that kind of stuff. That stuff's intimidating. That's not what this Yukon team is. So I don't know how much that's going to factor in. I would think that's probably not going to be as big of a fact. Yeah, I mean, I think Becker's is a superstar and so I could see her being intimidating, but if she's not at full strength, like who else is like three Gatorade commercials? Well, yeah, I think two years from now, easy fun at all. I'll definitely scare you, but I would be watching if I give AZ fudd like two extra inches on the perimeter. She's gonna make me pay for it. Perez is not scared. I can tell. Let's talk about another number two C that I think we're all excited about speaking of talented players and Alyssa Smith..

"Now at $50 a ton for Australian carbon credits units. And internationally, it's going to be a $130 a ton in Canada by 2030. So that's where people will get the confidence the money that they put in is going to the right place. I think it's almost cyclical as well, you know, as a generation, the bottom line for me is we have to consume less. You know, when I was growing up, we won blender lasted 15 by local foot panels on your roof. I mean, you couldn't do any better than that. And we don't need to have a choice, unfortunately, with your fuel supply because that all comes from internationally mostly. Here in Australia, it comes from Singapore. So that comes in on big ships that are distributed through viva in geelong or Caltech up in the Queensland WA's quina. They all distribute the refined products that you put in your car. We don't have control on that. That's an oil oil and gas producer. We just produced the oil that goes to that refinery. And there's only four refineries, three refineries left in Australia. So Australia is a refining capacity to go into almost zero. It still has that capacity just for securities supply. So you can't do much about where you buy your fuel. It doesn't matter where you fill up at 7 11, which is mobile or fill up a channel, which is coming from internationally, but you can certainly make a difference by buying local and in my view putting panels on group. And I think there's just a really practical tip, which is do you really need 50,000 pairs of sneakers and you know a shipping 17 shampoo bottles? We have a lot of stuff with now with COVID everybody's wanted to nurture and shop online. Do you really need it? We're very excessive population where we, you know, the other day I got really shocked because obviously, I just want my freedom back. I just want to be able to go to a restaurant. And I understand that concept and are not belittling that. But I feel like we're so lucky. You know, there's so many countries where I don't walk out my front door and I'm not being shot at. I mean I saw a big kangaroo the other day, but we've lost perspective on suffering, I think. We haven't been through the dark times where there was no power for like weeks and months on end. You know, we've never had a big blackout. We're almost a bit spoiled. Don't please don't give me a hard time if you're listening to this and you think you're there on your high horse because I'm not. I'm in the same sea that all of you guys are, but I think we consume to fill a gap rather than looking for quality things and getting back in nature with our kids and getting our own veggie gardens going, even if it's just in your window sill, we've lost our ability to cultivate. So my biggest advice to anyone listening to this would be create before you can consume. Look at what you can reuse. Do you really need all that stuff? How can you streamline and have quality things and be part of the change rather than sitting there throwing shade at organizations that you're still Tapping into? Because you want to go from a to B or your favorite restaurant or everything else. So I don't think there's any ideal perfection, I think we all can do a little bit whether you're an oil and gas company like yourself where you have the capital like BP or BHP or Bridgeport it's irrelevant, every bit counts. And instead of jumping on the bandwagon of how terrible everything is, we can start to do one or two things in our own side of the street that contribute to utopia for us all. So Chris, I really look forward to sharing some show notes about today's episode. The video that we did, which was just a tiny amazing so much more to share from their footage that we got and I can't wait to do those little sub videos around the FDA unit around the ponds that will once evaporating water supplies that can now go back to livestock. But that'll be let's schedule out in the field and about a month and a half. So that'll be. Well, that'll be a watershed moment for us because, you know, it does work, we know it works, but it's always different when you rig it up. The electrical status for Australia now not U.S., et cetera. So it's been a pathway to get it there, but any new technology. The first one is the most expensive and then I think we'll see the price coming down. I hope that in two years we're doing the first one in Australia, I hope that in two years, we'll see hundreds of these being rigged up with various other companies facilities around not that we're selling the product. We're just using it for our own purposes, but I'd like to see that more companies doing the right thing with their water. Well, I imagine those little units and I'll put a reference to what this is on the show notes actually in community areas and in populated areas where we actually have them as sub kind of more distillation units that are powered and especially in high sunlight areas and everything else. It's not just for a company usage. I think it's for community users. It's a great invention and can't wait to be out there with my steel toe caps on. Kept boots in behind it. Hopefully, when the weather is improved, The Rain is going. Chris wise CEO and founder of Bridgeport energy, thank you so much for coming on the show and just giving little snippets of what lies beneath the surface of some really beautiful road milestones to utopia on an integrated approach to energy as a company that's looking at all gas, hydrogen, water, everything else, and you see commitment is outstanding. Storms like this or what. Scientists have long warned about jeff brady from npr's climate team reports in bridgeport pennsylvania about one in the morning thursday vernon perry says the nearby river was rising and the fire department. Woke him up. They just were saying evacuate. Now get out the only chance you to go. Now get out run. There wasn't even time to move his car. It's flooded like others on this street a front loader hauls them to waiting trucks at the end of the muddy blocked. Brenda night is sitting under front step next to the sidewalk. Where a pipe. Gushes water into the street. It's being pumped up from her basement. The water came up to the first floor here and first floor. My rug was soaking wet in. There has whether she expected such a severe storm because of climate change. Not at all. This is a complete surprise. We had no idea of the magnitude of the damage. That was going to be called even new york governor. Kathy hokuto who talks about climate change fueling. More severe storms was surprised. We did not know that between eight fifty nine fifty pm that the heavens literally open up and bring niagara falls level water to the streets of new york. It's one thing to talk about the effects of climate change. It's another to experience them. Says burnet. woods blackie chief meteorologist with climate centro even. If you said to her there was going to be over three inches of rain in one hour if she's never seen that what does that mean. What does that look like. What does that look like on the ground. Same for the rest of us but we're getting more examples. There was superstorm. Sandy new york and new jersey nine years ago. Yeah like my version of purply. Pinkas like a lot but like green means. She sweats a lot. Someone else like so. They're just different colors. But that makes me feel a little more safe with it. Then because i imagine if you if everyone could see different color but they all meant the same thing there could be a lot more. Phonies out there saying we'll completely. Yeah you know what i mean. Yeah anyway so she could see from a really young age thought. Everyone could do this when she was a kid. She went to a prestigious catholic girls school and this is where she realized that she kind of should keep these gifts to herself. They don't like that. They do not like that so there was one time at school where they were like planting a tree together as your class product or something and she didn't see the little sapling they were planting. She saw a massive tree in front of her as if she could see it all grown. Whoa and a teacher asked how come you're looking at the sky. And lorraine said she could see the tree and the teacher said Can you see the future. And lorraine said i guess i can. I guess i am. And i think that was when the nuns were like okay. So that's the double like in the corner now right right right another time. There were two nuns watching over the class. One named mother superior and one named sister. Joseph and I think another superiors just like the hidden.

The couple were married by nineteen thirty five when raymond was twenty and had four children together but raymond was restless. A young man with ambitions that didn't include raising a family and so by nineteen thirty nine. Raymond abandoned his wife and children and embarked on a military career during world war. Two raymond made a name for himself. Serving i in the spanish merchant marines and later the british intelligence service officials saw him as loyal and diligent noting that he carried out his difficult and dangerous duties. Well raymond had a bright future an after the war he decided it was time to seek his fortune back in america but the trip home was a fateful one onboard. The ship raymond suffered a terrible accident. A steel hatch fell directly onto his head fracturing his skull and causing damage to his frontal lobe when he recovered. Raymond was different. His career ambitions seemed to evaporate too soon after he was released from hospital in the us. Raymond was arrested for petty theft and sentenced to a year in prison. If the head injury had pushed him toward darkness his time behind bars was the straw. That broke the camel's back. Raymond cellmate was into the occult and only too happy to share his knowledge of voodoo and other black magic. Raymond saw this as an opportunity. He believed that he could use his new supernatural skill set to seduce women but his intentions were anything but romantic once a respected intelligence officer thirty one year old. Raymond was now a conman in the he emerged from prison in nineteen forty six with a fully formed him. Oh after moving to new york city. He wasted no time putting it into action. Raymond's plan was simple a nineteen forties ancestor of what we now might call cat fishing. He scoured personal ads in local newspapers looking for women who seemed lonely and vulnerable. He responded to their ads with charming thoughtful letters describing his military service and his deep desire to settle down. He reportedly started wearing a toupee. Which hit the conspicuous scar from his accident and made him just a little bit more handsome. After sweeping his target offer feet and gaining her trust raymond would steal money jewelry and anything else of value he could find before disappearing into the night most of raymond's victims realizing that they had been conned. Were likely to embarrassed to report him. Raymond knew this only too well in fact his scheme relied upon it. "Hundreds of firefighters are battling a couple of blazes between Mansfield and Oh, Mac. We learn more about that from comas, Carleen Johnson, 254 square miles and several homes cattle. Breaking Down Bracketology

"I do WanNa flip the page to Rica's point some teams. That have worked very hard to get to this point. We've got eleven teams. Charlie that have punched their ticket so far to go dancing any surprises for you in the ache you I think we have one out. West correct so In the last couple of days of the West Coast Conference Tournament Portland is your winner. And they will now go to the tournament. they upset didn't zag in the semifinals and they will catch a little bit of. Portland's game yesterday in the championship when I flew into Vegas and they're upset of of Gonzaga disrupted. That's the surprise. It's SORTA disrupted the bubble a little bit because when you when you take it to my Portland who was not going to make it as an at large but Gonzaga certainly is well now the WC goes from having one team in the field to two teams in the field. Well he can only still sixty four teams so someone has to come out of the field to accommodate Portland's entrance and that affects the at large teams on the bubble and in the case of my bracket that not Boston College. Back out of the field. Who just a day earlier had slid into the field because there was another loss by someone else so everything with this in the championship weeks at circumstances everything affects something else because it's a numbers game. It's a sixty fourteen field no matter how you slice it so going forward and these next few days. We've got some other tournaments that could affect that in the same way and I mentioned this going back a week or so ago that their watch out for the bids steelers because there are certain mid majors that we know we're going to be in the field. They've earned the right to be in. The field is at large teams if they don't also go in there if they don't go in AH automatic qualifiers by winning their tournament. Well then that's an extra team that we didn't account for and brackets and that's an extra team now that the committee has to put into the field. That's one less team that can make it from some of these bubble team. So yeah the the big upset so far has been in the West Coast Conference in Gonzaga. Not Winning it and we've got some more to look forward to. The MAC happens to be one of those tournaments where there's not going to be. Any fans will central Michigan won the league pretty decisively. This year is a top twenty. Rpi team and most assuredly will make the field but now that tournament played before no one could be one of those that affects how the bubble teams go to central Michigan. Does it also come on? Come out on top in the tournament So that's that's certainly one for fans to watch as we go forward and you're GONNA have to watch it on TV because you're not gonna be able to buy it you're watching on TV though you will hear my voice. I'm on the call on Saturday for the championship. And the more reason to tune in now on the game and you can't get into the arena so the ratings should be sky high. Now it's via going okay. So I want to over to the big twelve. Charlie would where I know actually had a chance to call some big twelve games this year and I know. Tcu In particular was a team that was really making a push. I believe there in the field as it stands right now but I was state actually Jones. Who's a certified buck gator? They upset Baylor over the weekend which was a huge deal. I did a double take when I got the alert. Baylor is bailer their legitimacy. It probably doesn't change anything for them. But what does it do for Iowa State? Well I always stayed. I had as a tendency leading into that game and and it pushed him to a nine. And what that does is it's security. It's cushion because of the ten seed. Maybe the committee views them a little differently. Not Quite not quite at that level so that he's talking about eleven seed. Well that's a vulnerable team to some of the upset potential. We just talked about so what that win for Iowa State. I think is put to rest any question that they'd be in the field although I think there was a big one anyway but it but it certainly nails it down and they no longer would have. I don't think any anxious moments watching the selection show on Monday Now it's just GonNa be a matter of where do they go? And whom do they play? But I think that's what did for for I would say for sure and it would what it did do for. Baylor though while not it's not gonNA knock him out of a one seed it. Does maybe raise some questions. I personally didn't think that there was anything to worry about with. Frankly there weren't a lot of flaws there but the big twelve not not one of the better leagues in the country this year of the power. Five Leagues I think it's probably fifth and they haven't been severely tested in a while and I always say certainly did that and the it might raise some question marks about Baylor going forward. I think they can answer any of those questions in the big twelve tournament because I was sneaking suspicion. They're going to come out with a little extra in that game and it could be ugly for the other. Big Twelve teams In the big twelve tournament but that said it does it. It shows little vulnerability that I didn't think Baylor had and that makes it a little more intrigued when we get to the tournament. Time itself I agree with you one hundred percent. I know look at the box. Were trying to figure out what the deal was. And nothing really was like crazy glaring. But I do think you're right. I know a ton of folks are going to be studying that tape to see what I was able to do right well that was able to watch some of that game and when I did was really slow the Temple. They hope to threes in the second half. They made more threes than they made. Twos in the game and the believer and it was and it was so slow paced and Baylor never found a rhythm that they they say clog everything inside the Lauren Cox had almost no room to move it. Kinda dared the Baylor shooters to shoot and they just had one of those games where they weren't making shots so maybe at least down a blueprint for some other teams as to how to at least approach Valer Ago You mentioned as an example Yukon being a number two seed and I know over the past few years you have seen to have had all these regional conferences in such a favorable area. I think at the Albany region that they mostly have been seated but this year they would be projected number two in the Portland region and I think as much as we talk about Yukon not being the same Yukon is as pass. There's still a very good basketball team. Won thirty nine. Oh in their conference over these last few years in the American and I think that having them with the possibility of travel really makes this team look a little different because they aren't the same team as years pass. Tell us a little bit about how that could affect their performance. Assuming they make the sweet sixteen you're right and Seven out of the last eight years. They've either played in Albany. Bridge for for Kingston Rhode Island. So they they have not had to get on an airplane until the final four in seven out of those those eight years. But let's let's be honest earned it ju- every one of those years with the possible exception of last year because they were the best team in the country in those years too so and when when cities bid for these regionals it just so happened that that all those years those particular low cows bid and got regionals to be able to host. And you can't happen to be close so this year. Those regionals are don't exist. There is no Albany. There is no Kingston. There is no bridgeport and no matter what was going to have to get on an airplane. And you're right. I think it will look a little bit. Different seeing a yukon in a faraway place. I don't think it's going to impact on the whole Locke. Though to be honest I think the people that are bothered by the possibility of uconn going West are the players and the coaching staff. Everything I've heard from them is like. Hey we'll bring it on. We'll play wherever we'll play whomever we'RE NOT THAT CONCERNED ABOUT. Gino's been been pretty adamantly over the years but this year when the subject's soon kinda shrug your shoulders. Look I you know. I don't have any control over it and we'll go play and it will do what we do and I think he said the other night after the the American championship game. We'll do what we do. I hope I think That's sort of the philosophy that they're gonNA take me. Maybe their fans aren't happy and maybe people who who look at the tournament and see certain things as they view them. Unfair that a team that is fifth overall. My take would be the one that has to travel. Based on the fact that other teams can can drive to the region. So we'll get into the reason why you would be going to Portland is very simply that The NC Double A. Would prefer as much as possible that teams that can drive rather than fly two games that they're gonNA play It's written right in the procedures principles of putting the bracket together that mode of transportation distance from campus. Things that they consider will this year Louisville can drive the Fort Wayne Regional? Nc State can drive to the Greenville regional. So if you assume that those are those are two of the other number number two seeds. Then they're going to be plotted in those regions and then the other one being Stanford and Stanford mashed up with Oregon would would also violate one of the principles of putting the bracket together and they They try to keep teams seeded on the top four lines from the same conference separate. So they're so they're in different regions. They wouldn't even meet until the final four now. In this case the fact twelve might have five teams in top sixteen making that impossible but in years past when that's happened the committee's not put one a one and a two. They've put fit when a four again. So it's highly highly unlikely that Oregon at Stanford Movie Place Together which only leaves one region left for Yukon to go to which is Portland matched up with. Oregon is the one in the two. So that's the why behind it and I think we talked about the the what or in the case of I think the Yukon players coaches the. So what I don't know that they that it matters to them very much but it does create an interesting conversation around how the tournament is bracketed. And some of these rules. That maybe fans aren't quite as aware of in the the head-scratching that I get from from fans and social media. Say Well if you cons five. They should be matched up with the number four overall team based on the curve. And that's Maryland so they should be going to Fort Wayne. Well we don't ever. The S curve is used to plot the teams in the tournament. But it's not used strictly to place them in these numerical matchups one in eight go together. Two and seven go together. It's never worked that way. It doesn't work that way in the men's tournament. The committee will try to do that as much as possible. That's the goal. But if you've got these graphical instances at hand as well then there there's other ways to balance the bracket and. That's I think what's going to happen. This year with

another another former former democratic democratic presidential presidential candidate candidate is is endorsing endorsing Joe Joe Biden Biden in a video on Twitter California senator Kamilla Harris threw her support behind the former vice president saying quote I believe in joke we need a leader who really does care about the people and who can therefore unify the people and I believe Joe can do that and with us right now was ABC news political analyst Steve Roberts Steve what a difference a week makes it did you anticipate Joe Biden picking up this mode the momentum this quickly no I have not I don't think anybody did I I think what we're what we're seeing though is a fascinating phenomena based on one word and that word is fear it's fear of Donald Trump and fear of Bernie Sanders Joe Biden has not been reborn as some useful charismatics move talking energetic candidates Joe Biden today is still the same Joe Biden that people have a lot of doubts about two weeks ago two months ago two years ago the difference is that Democrats have so desperate so frantic to find somebody who can beat Donald Trump that they decided that day either as a group and individually as voters and as candidates they'll camel Harris being an example of of having to rally around somebody and then choosing between Biden and Sanders the fear of Bernie Sanders is pulling the party too far to the left so there's a lot of energy around the Biden candidacy right now but in my view it's largely negative energy it's driven by fear it's driven by desperation there are not a lot of Democrats even this morning jumping up and down in Saint Joe Biden's gonna be a great candidate a great president but this negative energy is very powerful and that's what's driving this trend do you think it's now his to lose or is it too early to say that definitely has to lose end up and I think it's gonna be very difficult for Bernie Sanders to rebound here the one variable of course the one no wild card is by himself as I say he has not been report he's still the guy who can show astounding lapses of judgment he's still the guy who could make gaffes he's still the guy who can show his age very clearly he's still the guy who can appear fumbling and uncertain and in debates with Bernie Sanders and interviews it's still entirely possible for him to make damaging mistakes I think a lot of Democrats even if Google Maps gets a new icon and more tabs to celebrate 15th anniversary

"So I up in the news Some news news from Google which dovetails into our news right because we share same birth year as Google maps so google maps as Google maps. Right so so fifteen years anniversary is coming up for Google maps so other freshening it up and I think they've already started rolling out Some of them the features this week so on the Fifteenth Anniversary Yes via the IRS. Because I've got the new icon which totally threw there. You go up yet because I I rarely Unless the Carson where you use the Google maps on my phone with someone pulls up and it a class or something so anyway. I haven't looked at it yet on my phone own my android phone but anyway It's kind of again just reminder. Oh my goodness so. The year Google maps started and very special. PODCAST started right kids born that year now just about old enough to date. Oh my God. Where does the time go about old enough to date? Yeah very all right. Sorry for come from Small Little House on the Prairie Times officially right officially Atlanta. We can debate that back and forth. What that ages but fifteen eighteen year still in many states? They can get their learner's permit. How about that can get your Lurs fit to drive permit to drive? It's kind of Yelp like in my mind that does that did you look at it frank. What the yeah I mean? It's it's walk eight so I was up in the bridgeport PA area yesterday. And I was driving on an area area that I know so I was in my car and went to turn on Google maps and I had saw the news that it was updated but it might pay attention when it was doing that and I have all my apps that took this auto update because I got tired of doing it every twenty minutes of an update so map so it updated and I am sitting in traffic trying to figure out how to start Google maps and I couldn't didn't 'cause I'm like where's the Congo that's all I've got it and then switched the icon on me and that's thirty off and then ended up to pull over because I couldn't get serious. It tight talk the address properly. I had to type it in and it's it's different. It's you're right it's very yelp like and I had used a Yo to get to the first place always had gone to so I was really thrown off because I was like wait a minute. I'm not using yelp just trying to get back to the highway and I it. There are a a lot of overlaps in this style. Chosen and it's understandable. I think because there's so much that they put in there in terms of restaurants and gas stations things that are in Yelp nope yes and that's all right is to guide you to this these things but I haven't tried it out yet but the the video factory were just looking at one of the live you to the augmented reality. Pretty thingy looks pretty cool so these are things that are coming in the near future to all the again to this refresh for the fifteenth year. I'm really looking forward to that. One it it takes me back to the the early days of of attempts at a are on the mobile phones but I still remember the fun one from was at Nokia City Lens. Nobody remember that for me but I was like I really liked that one. But anyhow Lots of lots of stuff coming from Google for Google maps. Racing's Drug Kingpin: Randy Lanier

"Let's get into the story of Randy Lanier the weed racer yes. Yeah Oh Randy. Lanier was born in Lynchburg Virginia on September. Twenty second nineteen fifty four. His family moved to Broward County Florida when he was thirteen. There were few things a good old boy such as randy loved more than pot. He would frequently sneak out of school just ahead to the beach and smoke smoke. Do by the age of fifteen. He was selling pot to his classmates. Even after he dropped out of high school he would continue to sell to his. GED Randy would say honestly. I didn't even think about it as drug dealing it was just a way. Okay for me to smoke without having to pay for Kumon tally. When did you first smoke? Pot Yeah Probably fourteen fourteen I think at that point I was too afraid of it because like there is on on my way to school. There is a tunnel that went under a freeway. Go through and like that's where like the the Estonians of the burnout so by smoke and they all kind of frightened me a little bit rightfully so they were kind of rough kids but I I it was never about that in high school. I thought like I think looking back on. It was pretty like dude intervene. Kinda like weird. I couldn't wait to smoke pot. Yeah Yeah I would've smoked pot way earlier if I were popular enough to have any friends. Yeah like years later I realized tons of kids I knew were smoking weed and they were like totally cool but it was just like those tunnel. Kids'll uh-huh scared me away from it is the first time I smoked was in college On top of a parking garage that was across the street from our dorm And of course like it was out of an apple. Of course yeah I think everybody's I Branches out of an apple and of course it didn't have any effect act on me and then the second time it did me and my boy tyler went back to our dorm room and we did freestyle raps over McNamara. She's a few hours. That's that's the way to do it. It was very sick. I mean when I was a kid like we'd culture was just so much it was just painted in such a different way. Yeah you know like it's fly out of lax with weed in your pocket. They were like we don't care some of these stores. La Look like the frigging apple store like men and it's crazy and it's like it's very convenient and you don't. You don't feel weird about buying pot but I feel like I definitely like missed out on like that. Like illicit elicit like. Yeah I used to smoke such crappy pot but the fact that there are people making billions of dollars off a weed right now and still people serving life sentences for possession national or selling is a huge problem that we should address maybe an another another day on another episode pats anyway it by the age of Nineteen Randy began working for construction company where he continued to sell it. Because he's not only a jug. Dili's Kinda just like a lazy like he's he jug dealer because like I don't know who's round man overtime it's clientele grew increasing the size of orders as well as prophets as sports illustrated. PUT IT in time. Joints turned into Baggies baggies. Turned into bag bags turned into bricks. rix became bales ails sales of a push. teed Johnston the BAGGIES. I can't do it slow anyway. Now it's hard. He's very good to the one thousand nine year. Old Randy drug dealing was the most promising opportunity yet he said. Let's just say I was definitely making more money. Then I made Neilan boards all day. I believe one of his last purchases on his first I just want to point out. How like good? This dude is at just sound clips. Yeah you know like yeah. Very romantic quotes. Yeah yeah one of his first purchases with his newfound wealth was a twenty seven foot magnum sports speedboat. He purchased for eighteen grand. Initially the boat was only. I used recreationally. He would jump waves and just you know cruise around there but before long an associate recommended he put that boat vote into quote commercial. Use like selling ice cream from the boat. James I doubt it. Oh I looked up these magnum votes This speedboat in particular is like so cool yeah just long as hell low fast. They're sick this guy's cool and and just like that Randy lanier move from being a low level drug dealer to a mid level trafficker in the timing. Couldn't have been better It it was the early nineteen seventies. It was a smuggler's Paradise Man. It was like the pirate days trafficking into the US specifically really from Columbia was still unknown. Threat that would soon become one of the biggest drug crazed sees in US history and a new exotic strain of marijuana called Colombian Colombian gold was being grown on Colombia's Guajira peninsula and it was beginning to flood the American black market. The arrival of Colombian gold fueled fueled a boom in America. Known as La Bonanza meeting. Better the mayor which loosely translates into the marijuana. Bonanza guys we gotTA Marijuana Bonanza Hands. Of course Florida was the best place to import such a large amount by the early eighties. About three quarters of the United States marijuana supply originated from Columbia Razi in his first mission. He he went to the Bahamas to pick up one ton of marijuana. So you're gonNA see like yeah I'm going to grab my boat to the middle of the ocean and pick pick up a ton of pot two thousand pounds a week it's crazy Randy showed up to these specified coordinates in the middle of the ocean and another other. Bigger boat would pull up next to them and the the we yeah. What's up guys like? And they transferred all the bales from the big boat into the whole of Randy's speedboat and then he would get the hell out of there all right thanks town to go back toot sweet right. I picture him just like wearing a cowboy like no shirt gene short. I'm imagining as not to become a in in the story from now. Yeah I think that's a good way to imagine This this technique was super common speedboats. Like Randy's were fast enough to evade the long long arm of the law and it wasn't difficult for smugglers to slip up the intercoastal waterway and hide a labyrinth of Florida swamps. According to a report one trafficker could earn a return investment of around one hundred fifteen percent so it made sense for randy to do this with a speedboat and naturally after you know I mean it sounds like this is like trying to get people to do it which they probably were you can get a return of one hundred and fifty. Why don't you come to this lunch at the Holiday Inn? And I'll I'll tell you all about a way that you can get up to one hundred and fifteen percent return on your investment with one Boron. We'll even Lisa the boat. Yeah very reasonable reasonable interest rates. Naturally ready was hooked. He did this trip. He did this kind of trip often. In spite of risks linear loved tempting fate eight and living on the edge of disaster for Kenny loggins lurk he had multiple close calls including one time almost sinking his boat as it was way down down so much by marijuana despite everything he frequently alluded capture by the US coastguard and received a twenty five percent. Cut of his delivery. Delivery seems like a lot. I mean he's taking all the risks to me. That's I guess he was just like a runner yes he wasn't dealing to the public anymore. Now he's there's like a guy from the ocean is a post mates for we. Yeah in a in a way. Yeah do you post Manson anymore. I use post meets way too much. I try to be waste free But you know sometimes you just you just want to pack of EMINEM. I know in one thousand nine hundred ninety six at the age of twenty two Lanier married his high school sweetheart. Pam uh-huh with her help. He opened a jet ski and boat rental shop near Fort. Lauderdale as a front to launder the money and present an air of legitimacy gene under the guise of a boat rental shop he soon purchased a sixty five foot trawler. I looked. I looked up with these are trawlers are basically really big boats votes There could be like recreational trawlers or fishing trawlers. Like just imagine a sixty five foot boat milk you can look it up Your you'll probably imagine the right thing. It's a big big boat with low. Yeah he got one of those with Got A lot of room. That's bigger than I thought. Yep Yep sixty five feet him with a boat this thing that is a thick composed he could smuggle directly from Columbia. No longer having to stop open meet a A mothership down to the Bahamas with each delivery he made with a sixty five foot boat he could smuggle over eighteen thousand pounds sounds of pot into the US that allowed sweet sweet dreams Enoug- soon despite massive quantities. He has now smuggling he was always smart smart about it. Never visiting import twice in a row. He would load up in the port of Santa Marta in Colombia and he would either doc in the US in in New Orleans San Francisco and sometimes bridgeport Connecticut Far Ways up the coast. Yeah I mean just looking at those three locations locations that's a huge spread Like some of those trips could take like a week. Some of them can take like three weeks to get there. You know that's crazy. Yeah smuggling muddling much like racing and comedy is all about timing Lanier loved loved the adrenaline rush of almost being caught doing something so illegal but he needed more one day while visiting an auto show that was taking place. Within the Miami Ame Convention Center Linear stumbled upon a booth that was sponsored by a local driving club. He immediately realized that racing would give him the high he needed and impulsively possibly signed up and that is when the racing career of Randy Lanier started in one thousand nine hundred ninety eight at the age of twenty four to the guys. I'm twenty six now. You don't even own one boat. I don't own a boat. Never smuggled shifts this dudes in his third career now. Yeah he started out as like get drug dealer. And he's a drug trafficker now owns a boat rental company. That's three and now he's like you know what man I think. I'm going to give this race car driving the try. It's awesome randy bought in nineteen fifty-six Porsche three five six speedster for seventy five hundred bucks and competed in the production class races at the SCC a southeast regional championships. Although he had no clue what he was doing he was a natural with each race. He proved drastically eventually winning the e production class in nineteen eighty at age. Twenty six. How old I am? I've never won any production class. Some feeling inadequate inadequate. But that's fine
