Rockets’ Russell Westbrook Traded to Wizards for John Wall
"Brian windhorst who. I saw yesterday on tv when early in the morning. I saw brian. When i found out that my found out the night before i guess late the night before that westbrook had moved from houston for wall in washington and is everybody knows because they've heard me say two thousand times. I love this trade for washington. But i thought brian would have a better perspective on it because he hasn't been burdened by having to watch the washington wizards for x. amount of years. John wall go nowhere absolutely nowhere. So let me let me start with the most obvious thing and take my prejudices out of this. Why do you make this trade. If you're houston well. I think this is really about the other stars involved. I mean it's hard to say that when you're talking about you know all star. I mean all star point guards. It'd be nine. yeah well. Isn't it all star today. And they and then they forty million dollars. They could traded for each other. I mean this is the definition of a blockbuster. But i'm sitting here saying this is about bradley. Beal james harden and it's different for both of them This is i think houston trying to salvage the situation. Which is they know that. They absolutely positively no westbrook. It are not going work out together. and so they're trying to find a way to keep their fingers in the dam so to speak. I do not think it's going to work I think the fact that they got the first round pick And i think they also hedging. And i don't think this is a strong bat. I wanna be clear. But they're also hedging that if wall recovers from this achilles That it might be better to have him for the next three years and russell westbrook. But i mean you know you're not staking your application on that I think hard and we'll be out of there by the trade deadline. Which looks like it's going to be in late march Maybe well before. But that's what they're trying to do and washington. I you know this is about holding bradley. Beal i mean i don't think it's a revolutionary idea that they have transitioned from john wallace their franchise player to bradley beal. This is clear and while Trust me there are plenty of people out there who have checked in with the wizard checked in with bradley beal however they do that. Are you happy in washington. The answer is still. Yes but the wizards are very aware that that may not be yes indefinitely and so this trade they trade free guy who was on the nba team. Last year. He was thirteen nba And he will in theory. Give them some more ammunition this year to compete with charlotte in atlanta who have upgraded. Their rosters and the wizards need to make the playoffs. This year or i think bradley beal could be out of there. And that's a move in this direction. Is it a slam dunk. Tony no but i think will be a upgrade from what they can expect from john wall.
Do Lakers deserve an asterisk for 2020 championship run?
"Got mentioned Perc said, no Asterix Brian Windhorst are ESPN NBA insider on the hoop collective podcast whether he thinks this title and remember he's been around Lebron longer than anybody that's been covering him whether this title is free clear and legit. I just have really strong beliefs that winning a championship is so hard. No matter. The circumstances that there's never an Asterik I'll I'll never ever I gotta be careful being so you know absolute but I just never believed that I and so this year. I thought that the level of play was great and I thought that the level that the Lakers showed in this bubble was spectacular. They are the absolute worthy champions. It's fair enough. The offense in the bubble especially was at another level. I don't understand why people would even have that conversation I mean you gotTa. All. NBA Players. And all the coaches and the people that have come on with US clearly state how hard it here's the plane of bubble without fans in you have to motivate yourself. I've gone through this many times trying to explain to people. They're stuck in an environment with no fans limited family and supporting family members and friends around. They're stuck in a hotel room not stuck in a ten thousand square foot house. This stuck in. Hotel Room One TV. Okay wallpaper on the walls. You can hear the next door neighbor a thin walls like really like and they're eating basically the same sort of gourmet cookie. There is no going out and getting this. It's totally different. I am not going to do a disservice to the Lakers by giving them Astros for this year saying, Oh, this is crazy. It's insane what they've been able to pull off during a pandemic during social justice all the things they've stood for not being around their family to do this wasn't insane insane year end insane accomplishment, but but. I do look forward to next year. That was your Asterik, I do I do I do afford to win Steph? Curry Klay Thompson draymond green when they're fully healthy what they can bring to the table I. Do look forward to seeing what the clippers will bring to the table and if they actually do how higher coach right if they actually do meet in the playoffs how that will be the coli that's pg going Lebron James and I do look forward to seeing you know Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving and Brooklyn what that brings it a table what happens with the would milwaukee and Jaanus. Could they get a Bradley bill to come to the table that missing link with Chris Middleton? There are a lot of things that look forward to next year considering if teams have to go on the road and when that or how that stuff plays out when it's not at a new site. So never going to disservice this was one of the most incredible things I've ever seen, but I do so why? So why are people out there trying to do a disservice given ashes to the? Lakers. Why? I I think people were doing that at the beginning by saying, Hey, you know you're not GonNa but They didn't make any sense he. Didn't make any sense I mean those are the people that haven't been to the bubble that haven't left their family for three and a half four months that don't know what the social pressure is the pressure to be alone to handle all that stuff there somewhere else.
LeBron James and the Miami Heat: From Champions to Breakup to NBA Finals Opponents
"Brian Windhorst you have spent I think the last decade of your life trying to establish successfully establishing by the way that you are a lot more than the Lebron guy after knowing and covering him longer than any other human being in our business dating back to your high school days in Akron and then even through the time you famously up and moved to Miami to cover him there. So I just want to begin by apologising for pulling you back into the orbit of the same son we've been worshiping for now seventeen years well I wouldn't be here but for Lebron I, extraordinarily fortunate to meet him when He. Was Fourteen years old his move to Miami in open the door for me to come to ESPN. So I, Oh, Lebron immensely, and while all of us want to spread our wings as we get older certainly would never shy away from or or tire from looking at this this guy because he's been influential character in my life and thankfully and influential character in the history of the NBA. Yeah. That was incredibly well said but now it's time to get super messy because in this case in this series where there are so many different interesting storylines and angles, it does feel like past might be prologue. I want to go back ten years now. It is July ninth, two, thousand and ten and Lebron James is introduced to heat fans for the first time along with Dwayne Wade and Chris. Bosh introduced to the NBA really for the first time as this big three and Lebron is asked about his plan for winning championships in Miami. Three kings came down here to win championships. Not One championship to Lebron. Tell us about that not too on. Now. Now by. Not. Fix. So at that moment. How did the Miami Heat See Lebron era playing out? Pat Riley thought that that was. The Greatest Dynasty team that he had ever been able to be a part of. Better than magic and Kareem and James Worthy. Better. Than Shack and Dwayne Wade better than the hopeful teams that he had with the next with Patrick Ewing and Allan Houston John starks. He thought this was one of the greatest teams in the history of the NBA. He saw a horizon for a decade where they would be in the finals year after year after year and maybe they wouldn't win it every year and maybe they wouldn't win five six or seven Lebron said, but they would rack up. It was going to be his sunset team. He was going to ride this dynasty out and then go into the sunset and it was an incredible for years. It was one of the most prolific four year runs in the history of the NBA, but it wasn't that dynasty and Pat. Riley, has never one hundred percent ever gotten over.

"In, the thing about is like they had worked out the they had called the raptors. I wouldn't say it was worked out, but they'd called the raptors and said Hey, if Bosh wants to come here, can we do a deal? And you know the Colangelo Bryan Colangelo and the raptors long wanted Anderson Varejao. There wouldn't have had other pieces in the deal. Maybe Hickson would have been in that deal. Dante West had a a non guaranteed contract, so he could have been involved in they could, but they could have gotten there with various Zhao potentially draft, pick asset or two as a deal, so they knew that they could get bosh, but they could not. They literally could not get Henry Thomas Pasha's agent to return their call. and. Forget about even set up a meeting. They couldn't get a call back so when they came to Lebron. When it came to proven the team, they said listen, we can trade for Bosch, but we really need your assistance in recruiting him and Lebron basically said to them second hand. He didn't say it to me. Was Hey i? Don't know correspondence do on. It's not what I do, and you know what I obviously was a hundred percent true because the literally the next day he was agreeing to go play with, but it also shouldn't be Lebron's burden to put the team together. you know so I don't blame Lebron for taking that position by frankly, and and but at the same time I'm not sitting here I mean the Caz made their mistakes, but it wasn't like they made their mistakes and had a thirty one team. They had to sixty teams. It would be interesting to trace back and see what missed. Opportunities were there for the cavs to built to give Lebron, a more confidence in their long-term future I haven't done that in recent months. I'M NOT GONNA. Speak to that now. It does raise an interesting question because you quote David Physical. Who is a heat assistant in your story? That even if even if Dwayne new on July eighth when Lebron announces it. There's still some trepidation within the heat that they know, but they don't really know. There are still some nervousness about. Is he actually going to say the words Miami Heat or South Beach or whatever on television. which brings me to my next question, which is what's Plan B? Chris, Bosh, if this doesn't happen if Lebron decisiveness stay in Cleveland, if Lebron Somehow, it doesn't work out and I guess. Is it just self evident? That Plan B. is and going to Miami without the Brown or wait if waiting, you know if in the Bronx. Play together Chicago I think boss goes to Chicago Miami I. Think I think you know. The story goes that Bosch in his meeting with the Bulls led the Bulls to believe he was really serious interested in playing there and one of the reasons why there is so much animosity from the Bulls towards the heat is they feel like Bosch May of? Led them down the path, but you know I wasn't there I didn't hear what was said. I don't know if one person said something that they wanted to hear. WHAT HAVE YOU But Bosh had great options and you know. I interviewed Chris for this piece and Chris was like I was just so excited. You know he goes. What happened Western that rally was? We were just so excited. I just signed one hundred ten million dollar contract I. Just I was GonNa live in Miami. We were GONNA play together. We're GONNA win cheap and she was just really excited. Chris Christly went into this more doe-eyed, an about the experience, then Lebron way to a more strategic and worried about their their legacies, or whatever Chris wired a little bit differently, so I think Chris would have been happy. No matter what and I think what he was leaving, Toronto and there were hard feelings there, but I don't. I don't think he regrets any of that. I think the. The real fall out here is. The concept of the Big Three. Even though Wade did the recruiting ultimately Wade had to reel them in. He wheeled in Bosch any real Lebron. It was pat. Riley's big thinking. That made this happen and he was aided by the fact that it was in Miami, and he was aided by the fact that he had way. He was aided by the fact that there's no state income tax so that if they all took a little bit of a pay cut, the actually could make it back on that. All that health that he was aided by Ambi Ellsberg. Who made it all possible? But Pat Riley's big thinking made this possible and the other players and teams didn't think that big, and that's why Riley. The the marriage of Riley Wade Miami and all that stuff is why this happened. You take any one of those components and things could have gone different. Can I ask you a couple more quick questions about the decision? In Lebron Inc. which is your best selling book? Lebron James Assume it's a best seller. In, fact that. Make the best seller. There you go. You have another. What if in there which may be so far fetched? It's it's not it's not really worth this much discussion, but I wanna discuss it anyway, which was? The Clippers and You. You raise in the book that Maverick Carter. Had I believe it was maverick Carter struck up a relationship David Geffen the famed music executive. And said. Hey. Look Lebron like bronze, not adverse to go into the clippers, but but he doesn't want to play for Donald Sterling so like. What what about you by the team? From Donald Sterling, and Lebron signs with the clippers. About that is how is that? was that the extent of it I? Mean could have who knows if they could of fit all three or something, but I had never I had not remembered that or had never read that before reading your book and I remember exactly where I was being like Oh my God. That's really interesting, so I mean maverick, Carter. David Geffen is one of Maverick Carter, idols, mastercard or being media executive I can't remember the book that was done on David Geffen actually. It's interesting book because Geffen. Initially started cooperating with it and then midway through the process of books I, don't he disavowed the book, but ended up being this incredible book about David Geffen and of course now I can't remember what it's called, but maverick has it I've seen it in Mavericks Office on his on his shelf. He he is a very important book for him, and so him starting a relationship with death and I mean he sought him for advice he had. He respects David Geffen immensely. And Yes, there was a discussion with David Geffen Hey. Could you go because you know you needed a billionaire to who can say I want to close the clippers. You'll very quickly here and and I don't know how he approached early I. Don't know if was like. Let me by part of the team or by later but you want to talk about power Yeah, getting an hour on ESPN for free. That's pretty big power. How David Geffen. Trying to buy the clippers. So, you could get into business with them. That right? There is an affirmation of power and..

"Was that enabled? This has been reported elsewhere. I just didn't remember it, but why talk to people with the Bulls. They said that they pitched wait I. Their First Meeting was with weight at the United Center. and. They didn't give him their whole pitch. and. They didn't give them their whole pitch because they were so convinced, he was resigning with Miami and Miami was a competitor for all of these players that they didn't want. dwayne coming back to the heat and saying hey, here's what the Bulls told me. This is what they're gonNA. Tell abroad now you counteract it. So the Bulls don't give the full pitch and the next day. Wade asks for a second meeting. And at that meeting, the Bulls figure out Oh my God he's actually serious about coming here and they give him the full pitch, but the irony is. When it comes to the meeting, he says hey I've just met with the heat. Is there a way you could create room for third player a third star, and so he brought the heat's plan to the Bulls. The balls worried about having leaked to the heat, and they ended up getting it and so to me. I know that there are people in this league, and I've heard them go. Don't be snookered he. They're always going to Miami. Don't listen to this crap about the Bulls. Just a obfuscation to make you think wasn't a done deal. You're you're nine. If you believe that I don't believe that I believe that when Wade asks for that second meeting and asked the Bulls if there was a way that they could get a third slot after he heard that pitch from because he went immediately from the United Center to Henry Thomas the late. Henry Thomas was the agent of Boston way a fine man, honorable man went to his office. Riley gives way the three prong pitch. They had been doing all these little moves leading up to it buying James Jones out and trading to cook, and they were just moving their. He hears it and goes right back to the Bulls. He doesn't go back to the Bulls and ask them to clear a third spot if he's not at least somewhat interested, is he? Twenty nine percent interested is forty one percent interested that only Dwayne can answer that. and. My whole thing is looking back on. The Bulls had never thought of this the Bulls all along like we've got derrick rose. We've got joking. No, we've got Taj. Gibson we've Lou all Dang we're going to. We're going to add another two stars here. That's our move when the Bulls heard three. It blew them out of the water I now we all know big three big three big three, of course, the fact, then Zach on July first people weren't thinking. Anybody can do it. In so well. To fit three stars. I mean you have to tear it to the studs to one player Max guys you. Well. And they all ended up having to take pay cuts to fit Mike Miller and you don has them. You have to rip it to the studs and the Bulls you went through it. You know you can trade sign and trade the wall Dang for nothing. Nothing in salary to try, but you still have rose Noah and Gibson and you're probably still gonNA fall short of the salaries. Those guys wanted to me when I read all the coverage including yours about Chicago and I've read lots of other coverage plus yours. Which is the best of my take on Chicago is? They would have been thrilled to get to. And I think in alternate universes. But but the two, but the two were always going to be Bosch plus boss Plus Lebron Bausch Plus Wade thrilled and I think in a lot of alternate universes. That's a situation that's very appealing to bausch weighed Bosh Lebron, but what was unavoidable for the Bulls was weighed in Lebron wanted to play together. and. They didn't think they were I. Think they had concerns about playing together with Derrick rose because it was just going to be too much ball, handling two little shooting, and so in a theoretical world with the Bulls cut bosh out to say well okay, we can get to stars. How about you guys? I think based on what I've. Read this whatever it in. In the reporting I think they would've said well. We'd like this other situation better so I'm not sure what really the Bulls could have done in the end to offer them a situation that was as compelling to them as my aunt. WHO's that? Does that make any clue I can? Just I can sum it up in one sentence. Three is greater than two. At the time Derrick rose should have been included as one of our big three, but he wasn't. For better whereas many won the MVP the next year. Three was greater than two now Riley had a singular obsession and focus to clear to make it happen. He was driving added with an unstoppable force with a CAP expert. who had every tool in the toolbox doing? The Bulls did not have the same motivation. They did not have the same motivation to dump this team that they were making to try to have this happen and by the way. I'm not criticizing them for that because they even without. They won sixty games the next year, and when three zero against the heating regular season, and arguably had you given them a little bit more time, and they had you know giving them another transaction cycle before rose blows out his knee navy. They have a ring and they have no regrets. I'm glad you brought that up because I'm gonNA, write a piece in the next week or two about. An I- podcast with Lebed about this January about the legacy of that heat team, and I think really when you talk about it, and I don't WanNa get sidetracked, but it a lot of it comes down to two knees or maybe threes Derrick rose's knee and Dwayne. Wade's knees on the one hand Derrick rose's knee eliminated. What was what stood to be as their true rival? Their true tests in a way that I don't think Indiana's as well as they played them in the playoffs was ever equipped to be. And then wades needs. I think cut them short in terms of their longevity but that's a that's a. that's a different story by the way about Cleveland. You've written about this. I don't know what amount of money I would pay to see it, but it's not a trivial sum. The cavs in their presentation to Lebron. I Guess Commission. Seth Macfarlane and Creator family when they tried to get Farland do it. He is. They had a family. Guy Style. Like. KNOCKOFF. Own. Show Lebron who's a family guy fan a now. What I'm learning from you as a knockoff family guy. Of that includes the characters of family guy making jokes at the expense of the other teams that we're trying to get Lebron all my God. Would I pay money to see that? See what jokes they made about the other teams that were trying to get Lebron how crude they were how they might have gone over in that room. If in watching them I would have been like in the branch shoes i. I would have been like Oh my God. This is their. This is I would have done the homer Simpson back through the shrubbery to get out of the room. If they were, I would just love to see it well, that's the thing like remember. This is Dan Gilbert's brainchild. And then you know there was nobody precious to him. and that while we never come out is because it was probably. Really makes people look bad because I think it targeting. We need to drop everything. Forget the bubble. We need to put all our reporting resources espn to getting that tape. We need to get that among other tapes that the world needs to see. We get that tape, yeah! So according to people there, Lebron was roaring with laughter. And I'm sure he did enjoy it. Apparently had inside. Jokes mocked executives in the players on the other teams like which is probably one of the reasons why he'd never heard about it because it's just. Really not. Something that they want to be associated with, but they will say they did know his style of humour it was. It was a You know an explanation he, we know you. This pitch to him was not A. we're going to get weighed and Bosh their pitch was we know you? This is your home? and Jj Hickson is going to be an all-star eighteen realize..

"You're down to essentially nobody that you trust. Thing is I'm a little bit worried by some of the other players having the virus now we've got to the players have the virus. I'm sure they're. Analyzing what to do about their facility. Who the difficulty with this is, you don't know where they got it. But that's really worrisome and I don't know if any the other players are going to get worried and if anybody else fails, but you know if this is a time that you want if it Brooklyn accomplishes anything. The showcasing of cares laverne. Jared Allen, because it's not for Bradley beal. Kyrie Irving is pretty much. Come out and shown their cards when he announced. That they need to improve and then announced their or players. and Jared Allen wasn't in there. Joe Harris nor is. It very player who who kyrie irving should really want to be on his team because he doesn't. He's one of the best shooters on planet Earth for sure. But I I mean you know one thing I would say is that? If this can. You may say well. How can eight Games IN ORLANDO? Well, excuse me. guys have gotten giant contracts based on eight games in the playoffs. So. If you're looking for something to come out of this Brooklyn, Joe Harris has lots of play for an unrestricted free agent. Although? He's in the same boat kind of his As Protons, he hasn't had the same injury level in his career, but he has had injuries, and so you know what I assume he's going to play, but He's got some lot on the line, but between Joe Harris between sliver who looked like he come out of the out of the quarantine in great shape Jared Allen. You have an opportunity to really showcase your assets is this is what the news is like. A poorly kept secret that the nets plan is to try to get a third star and levert an Allen. Pieces and dangling that and if those guys can. Can Not only carry Brooklyn in. Make sure they make the playoffs, but then actually get a playoff series. It's a great opportunity for them for all those reasons. Yeah, it's it's such an interesting storyline ee as Far Back Ago I think September. I wrote a piece. About. Teams that are in position to decide. Between two stars plus depth, plus like real quality depth, which was what Brooklyn has right now if you include durant in irving right, who were not gonNa, play and durant obviously played all year versus exchange a lot of that depth for a third star, and become super heavy at the top and thin at the bottom. I think that's a fascinating philosophical choice I wrote about it in September and I wrote about it directly because the nets are facing that choice and I mentioned bill in that article as third starter that they will face that choice with. You people can read it and find what I concluded, but I think it's a really interesting philosophical debate. I agree with you that it will be. It will be something that. It is something that is potentially actionable. If things flip the right way number, one of which is Washington has to be willing to trade badly, and they have insisted over and over again that they are not now teams insist over, and over again that they are not willing to trade player X. until circumstances demand that require that they do so obviously. John Wall has been seen working out and looking good I think the wizards do have an interest in seeing how that group looks next season. So it is interesting and I. I love that the nets have signed Tyler Johnson. We're really they need to acquire. Otto Porter at some point just to hit the Trifecta of all the guys that Sean marks it with the poison pill offer sheets and didn't get got crab got Tyler Johnson. We gotta get Outta to the nets, just just for the sake of NBA Trivia and like I. I respect job that Sean marks has done there. It's been amazing considering what he took over. Incredible for those offer sheets were all terrible in the moment. They've proven to be terrible and yet he still wants to keep getting these players to remind everybody how terrible those offer sheets work! When you? Respect that he's sticking by by that evaluation. It looks some people just had their soft spots in life whether it's a certain food. You GotTa, order every time. Bad relationship you stay in because you just can't quit, you know gotTa Jones for Allen Crab. You GotTa Jones Fallow Crab. There's nothing you can do about it. I have to say. I really appreciate Taylor Johnson being honest. But the story it was in the SPN magazine. I can't absorb. He wrote it. God bless him. When he tells the story of. Tyler Johnson vomiting when he heard how much signing for. I've never heard of joyful vomit. Like like a like a happy vomit. Yeah. I. I say more. What else can I possibly say a word? Jared Allen. I think jared. Allen is much more important to the nets long-term future than Andre Jordan. And I been a little mean to Andre Jordan in the last couple of years. I but I and I wrote this sometime during the pandemic at all together in the last probably. Two months of the season. Before this dad suspended the season deandre. Jordan legitimately outplay Jerry now, and he proved me wrong. You proved a lot of doubters wrong. He was better than Jared Allen. No I don't think he was like twenty percents, jared. Allen but he was better. A little bit better. His passing head improved his turnovers were down. He still legitimate threat on the role. Even when he's doesn't move much on defense. He's still a big deterrent and he's much stronger than Jared Allen. So when you throw him against the embiid or Yokich or the rare guys who like to push people around. He's an important part of the nets and for. For All the fun I've booked the DJ in the last couple of years. He had outplayed Jerry down. It was an important part of their team. So this is this is a big moment for Jared Allen. If we actually get to Orlando and have games which you know. I'm going to say if I'm going to continue to say if until they're down. They're playing games. Anything else on the nets in the wizards. Are we ready to leave this behind and the magic I? Guess the magic or in this Imbroglio Imbroglio. Something like that Natalie imbruglia i. don't know something like that. The magic have such a fascinating situation because all of these teams. I'm going to stop you there. They don't have a fascinating situation. At the magic with the bubble, because all of their friends and family are there in Orlando there there? is so much greater, you know it's one thing if you're if you're stuck in the bubble and you play for the La Clippers most of your family's in Los Angeles elsewhere. In Orlando. Those people are there. They are down the road. So. The one big concern about the bubble is with all these things all this rising is infiltration and you know the magic have the greatest temptation of all of that, so they have a special challenge. You'd think that it's an advantage to be playing at home, but they're not at home their playing on the road at home. That's almost the worst. An the worst scenario I apologize for thinning the magic fans actually do think the magic. I my writing would suggest that I have a soft spot for the magic in their franchise decisions, and obviously they have Markelle Fultz. He's one of the most interesting players in the NBA. Look, the evidence suggests this. If? Anybody leaves the bubble. I, not just players. Everyone wants to focus on over the player's GonNa do this that and the other anybody leaves the bubble. The risk is enormous. The of bringing back Israel and enormous and like. If this is going to work. It's just has to be. Highly highly. Regulated and people cannot leave because the risk particularly with. Florida, shockingly bungling the coronavirus response the risk is is enormous, and on the flip side, the German basketball league on a much smaller scale, and over a much shorter period of time just completed a bubble with no positive tests. And again it's German basketball league, so it was a much more limited number personnel in a shorter timeframe, but it's possible, but this is a much more rickety. Von. Chinese basketball BOB was. They have draconian. Measures and no players union, but draconian measures basically. You may not leave your hotel room. Or else or face? Who knows what? It's holding in. So. Let's talk about the decision because you wrote a fantastic look back, not just the decision, but at the three days kind of sandwiching the decision with the decision in the middle on ESPN DOT COM, anyone can find on the front page. It's been on the front page for a day and a half now to fantastic..

"And now the low has welcome to. The low post podcast live on a Tuesday morning, and I am thrilled to be joined to commemorate. You might have heard the ten year anniversary of a little then called. The decision is coming up, so there's nobody better on planet earth other than maybe like maverick Carter in the Bron James to talk about the decision within ESPN, senior something I. Don't know your title Mr Brian Windhorst. How're you? Hi Zach? How's it going? I'm good man. I forgot you were you were at the Cleveland Plain dealer Cleveland Dot Com when the decision went down. And I loved my days at the Cleveland Plain Dealer I, I don't know if I was ever happier. In the two years. I spent there covering the cavs had that glorious to sixty when seasons years I was there. I loved it but it. Couldn't last. It definitely couldn't last and I knew that. During the decision time that lots of things are going to be changing for sure and I still think. I still think Lebron's all time. Best Playoff series is the two thousand nine conference finals against Orlando Thirty, nine, nine, nine in a losing effort and a couple of monstrous clutch moments including the buzzer beater to win game, two and I will have to say. I I remember your. When you were covering the cavs for the for the plain dealer, you sat courtside and your daily or every game you would write little notes. Bullet points on what you heard and saw from that seat. That is like those were all time great gems, and that's what when people when people wondered, are we? What are we losing from courtside seats? You know all of the media's winding I get that like it's really like that's beyond first world problems to complain about your seating NBA game, but you are missing that and that I vividly remember. I would scour that thing. That was one of my all time favorite things. That was a strange. Time in in media. Learning so much and of the things that we started in started happening was My Post came blogs, which included all of those little news. Nuggets basically started to getting more know the thing about it was when you had a newspaper. You just put it out in the world, and you just assumed, but you put on the front page. Guy Read more, but she didn't really know. Once turned being able to track what you clicked on things, and how much they scroll through and everything. People started realizing that. What I was reading about those little, those little nuggets were getting more red than the game stories. They were amazing. It was great. It was great. Before he gets into decision, let's actually do some news real quickly. Look I've said my piece already last week on my podcast with Kevin, Pelton about whether or not the NBA quote, unquote should cancel the season I'm not going to reiterate that if you want my view on it and Kevin Pelton, you listen to that podcast. Nothing is really changed since then news wise. Last night. The Andre Jordan announced that he has the coronavirus will not go to Orlando Spencer. Dinwiddie has the Corona virus in May or may not go to Orlando and suddenly. If if both of those players don't go. The Nets are incredibly thin and for the five hundred fans who actually care about the Brooklyn Nets. They are six games up on the Washington Wizards. Who are ninth and For purposes of the play in tournament, the nets are really two games up. That's from the Washington Wizards. Let's assume for the sake, of argument that Orlando at full strength. They're almost full. Strength Probably Minded Jonathan Isaac moves up to seven in the event again. That dinwiddie he doesn't come in. The Nets are super short handed. The Wizards need to pick up two games on the nets to force a play tournament, and then they would need to beat the nets twice in less by some miracle they tied than which won't happen so and I think the wizards can look at this and say if all our remaining guys come member Davos, for Tan's is not coming big part of their team this year. If all of our come if Dinwiddie doesn't come. I don't like all of a sudden. We have a chance to make the playoffs which laugh at them if you want and no one has left more about the wizards inclusion in this thing that I have. It's ridiculous that they're invited, but a playoff appearances a playoff appearance, and it would be a nice for a team that had almost expectations coming into the season of John Walls injury. Be a nice feather in their cap to get destroyed by the bucks in the first round, but you know look, it's not. It's not something to totally laugh at and so. If, you look at at their respective schedules for these last eight games. It's not crazy that Washington could make up two games against the nets. In fact here, their first two games Brooklyn starts with Orlando and then Washington Washington starts with Phoenix and then Brooklyn. If Washington goes to know and again, Phoenix in Brooklyn and Brooklyn goes into your tied right. You're not tied, but you're effectively in the playing stage. Right off the bat with six games to go now from they're both teams have much stiffer schedules and lots of variables. Variables will happen, but like all of a sudden. Washington has got to be looking at this like okay. We're the doors open, right? Yeah by the way speaking of Phoenix who knows how many guys are going to be there? Because they have three or four people tested positive, I don't know. How many guys are GonNa? Be Able to be back. So who knows what that game's even going to be so? You know the the thing is. There's more money involved for everybody. If you make the playoffs and normally the getting extra money in the first round is not that big of a deal, but for all these guys who have already lost money out of their paychecks. It's matters I can tell you to the organization They get paid a lot of money on their. RSM DEALS FOR FOR PLAYOFF Games. And so this stuff is going to matter how the organization approaches it. And that stuff's going to matter and I and I don't know if that's enough to make sure all of them. Get on that plane in a week, but it it could. It could contribute to that and. The other thing is you know Washington has a young team you know they. You know even though they're you know their core players are older. They have a young team, and this stuff is going to be meaningful so I think if I was Washington a week ago I might have been just saying all right. Let's go down there and. Go through our motions fill are obligations but I I don't know how they can't be thinking differently today than they are, and I hate to analyze it based on the virus, but it is what it is, and if you're the wizards, you got up with a different viewpoint on your on your outlook today. Whether you have to feel good about it or not. Well, they pick up two games in the first two games. Then it's on if they don't pick up any ground if it's neutral in those first two games, Washington's last six are Indiana lots at stake Philadelphia. Lots at stake New Orleans lots at stake Oklahoma City lots at stake, and then Milwaukee in Boston, at the end now it. It could be better to play those teams at the end because they can be set and not have anything to play for Brooklyn's last six games, Milwaukee Boston. They get him right away. SAC potentially lots of state clippers will see Orlando again at the end and then Portland, which either is going to be eliminated and not care or have a lot to play for at the end. Again, if if Brooklyn can hold steady in those first two games somehow get a split. And and keep washing into six games back slash two games back of play. Ineligibility. You would think that they can hold them off, but look. Let's go to and six in those eight games, which is not unrealistic to me of Dinwiddie doesn't come, and they have essentially no point guard on their team. no proven. Point Guard on their team. You know they'll get by with levert. WHO'S Decent as a lead ball handler Tyler Johnson. They just signed. You know who knows. Watching it only two four and four to force a plan, and that's feasible to me..

With the aftershocks of a sixty game season. It's supposed to start July twenty fourth I was told it could be a week later. Here's another thing, and it's another thing to keep an eye on, and I mentioned this. I keep mentioning it because I do think it is more of a reality than just a maybe, or what if and that is the NFL season being pushed back now. Mike just be one week and Albert. Breer the Monday morning. QUARTERBACK had this yesterday. There is growing concern from a couple of owners right now of starting the season a week later. I. Keep hearing. My sources said. Hey, you know what you're right. They're looking at removing the first four games and putting them at the back end the regular season schedule, but that's just something that's going on right now with the NFL. We always feel like well. The NFL just plows through everything the NFL. They don't let anything stand in its way well. This is standing in its way and I think that there is. Sources -- Chinese Basketball Association delays restart due to coronavirus
"We are in a situation sports where target dates continues to move and and one thing that had been potentially a harbinger of good news for when we might see things return to normal here in the United States has been delayed overseas this column in by Brian Windhorst year the Chinese basketball association seen by many sports leagues as a trial balloon for recovery from the coronavirus crisis has delayed its restart now the league was shooting for April fifteenth as being the day of the Chinese basketball association would resume play which would have been about eleven weeks after being shut down but now apparently according to what with horses learning that will be attempted to restart until may after failing to get government approval according to reports from China now there is a cabbie out in here the the delay of the Olympics did contribute to the decision in other words I think they thought we need to get people back in right well right after here so they can get ready going to the Olympics so that did play a part of this but Chinese officials were also affected by seeing restarts abandon basketball leagues in Japan and South Korea over continued concerns about the virus in recent days sources tell ESPN there had been any formal announcement by the league but foreign players have been called back in games had been scheduled to be played without fans in attendance and there had been some American players yesterday like Jeremy Lin lance Stephenson had traveled to China and entered a two week quarantine to prepare to play somebody gotten stuck at airports for hours upon arrival as they went through the process to be admitted and now those players as well as the start of the Chinese basketball association are stuck in

"Let's talk about. I'm going to throw some random some random like I don't know what's going on here teams players and we can just sort of have phone with it. I don't know what's is going on with the Phoenix Suns do they a buyer seller. I mean they're in they're not completely out of it. They're like in twelfth or eleventh. You know to me the way. The Blazers are playing I got A. I would bet that they would overtake the Grizzlies But the PELICANS are blazers. spurs-grizz is going to be a fun three team race for the rest of the season. Yeah and and New Orleans and New Orleans is coming. That's right Zach. Boy I'll tell you Zion. Zion is everything. Everyone said he was there when he when he won he gets the ball on the left block and he spins baseline he is gone before his defender even knows what in the hell just happened and if he misses his second jump is so fast. Like he's going so fast. I'm not sure he's fully like oh I like in control of it. Rarely do see a guy who has an insane first step an insane second jump. That dude is ridiculous. He's been awesome even though it's very clear he's a little bit overwhelmed with everything being thrown at him the tragedy that we had in the NBA Day in the country last week obscured What was a phenomenal? I Five Games Zion. Nobody nobody had had the ability to even pay attention to it. But Zion was great and even like yesterday the played in Houston and even though they lost that game. Zion had like three or four jaw-dropping place If you're phoenix like can you win that race I mean. I'm I'm kind of like if they wanted to I I can. I'll tell you the answer is no. You can't right but I don't know if they've come. I mean like if they could sell Aron Baynes for a nice piece they wanted. And that's that's a guy that the clippers I'm sure would be very interested in. He's a very good player. Aaron if he's healthy ambience helps you in basketball games. And he's I mean he's great. He's great for the clippers. Kevin Pelton Kevin Pelton noted today in his piece on Drummond. He is one of those guys who may not blow you away with his rebounding only totals but he's boxing out like eight dudes at the same time so everyone else can go. Every ounce can shoot. Three's great break type of guy that you would would feel good about trading for because he's not gonNA come in and rock the boat You know total work on my defence shoot threes. I don't know let's let's talk about the Pelicans. Forget the sons. I don't know what the sons are going to do. And we can talk about it in this context. But I don't really know what's going to happen with jrue holiday. He's the sexiest name. That is allegedly on the market. I just can't tell how much on the market he actually is. And it's it's interesting from this perspective. I like this. PELICANS team they start. Lonzo drew Ingram. Zion favors men. They plays Diane Summit Center and they play him some with Meli. But you would think that lineup is a little bit low on shooting but Lonzo shooting a better now. Ingram's had an amazing shooting season. And they just they. There's so so much ball handling and I q on the floor at the same time and already. It's very clear that Zion's feel in passing is the most underrated part of his in terms of like. There was not a lot of hype about that. and He's order very good at that and I feel the way his passing the way I did about Ben Simmons Defense when I saw Ben Simmons playing. They've as all my God. This guy's a monster monster defensively. Nobody told me that I liked the way they play and drew. Holly fits all that. He's another ball handler. He's not overtaxed handling the ball with this group on on the other hand. All those guys are young. They're all on the upswing. How much do you really lose this season? If you trade drew holiday and in return you get like a league average shooting guard the name I just made up Gary Harris like half a win half win this season. How many wins next year? Like how much difference does it actually make to have downgrade. If you can upgrade elsewhere. Get some draft assets like it's a it's a really interesting like Zion is. You just threw a thirty percent usage rate onto your team. So there's he's taken possessions from everyone including drew holiday. I'm just not sure as at and I think is really good. I'm just I'm not sure how much they lose if they can find the right deal but it's Denver. It's Miami it's maybe a surprise team ex- like I just don't I don't hear a a lotta like it doesn't seem like it's going to happen. Does it seem like it's going to happen. No I mean in conversations with the Pelicans have had with other teams. They've expressed abreast and interest if they're going to do anything acquiring another veteran player because one of the things that they thought lead their struggles. Early on was how young they were. And when Derrick favors came back from being away from the team with injury and he had a personal tragedy his mother passing away that the stability that even even he added to that made a humongous difference and that they almost like. They're too young so the idea that they would take a stable veteran and trade him seems seems. Seems like I was against what they've been talking about having said that if they've made jrue holiday available there would be a bidding war especially because of the dearth right now and you know when you talk to when you talk to various executives around the League when you talk philosophy with them. One of the things that they'll talk about is the best us time to to sell is nobody else's selling and you know if the mixture trade Marcus Morris did knicks could get a bidding eating war for Marcus Morris right now if they traded him. That's another clipper option. Thanks to sign him in free agency they would definitely. I would be shocked if the clippers wouldn't go up their first round. Pick for Marcus Morris. That's pure speculation on my part. I WanNa make that clear that just makes too much sense. Yes so if they actually made holiday available I think Miami would be bidding. I think Denver would be bidding. I think is what is Miami bidding. I don't think they're being hero. I just I don't see it. You see it. He heroes the piece that swingset like okay. You're in the conversation now. I okay I guess but if if Miami and I traded for holiday by Thursday I'm thinking I have a chance to win the east this year so I mean let's just you know here's anything I'm always going to me personally. I'm always going to be partial to drew. I by the way I would not trade him. You made the case in your calm today about about from an asset standpoint. I would I would. I would if I can get this if I can get plug and play replacement. Who's worst Andrew Holiday and two to three future assets so like me Beasley to me is not a future asset because we're GONNA have to pay a lot of money One first round pick plus Beasley does not interest me if I can get. They're the Denver doesn't have a player who fits the bill. But just let's say yes they do. Yes they do. They're well. They're not trading Michael Porter Jr.. It's not okay. Well you're not getting your tabled by himself. It's I'm doing the trade in a millisecond if I'm New Orleans just that plus as you said that trade is not available if I if if I can get like two unprotected first round picks and a plug and play player that I feel okay giving minutes to Andrews Place. I think I do that if my new world. If I'm New Orleans it's not an easy decision. I loved you holiday. I wrote a big huge profile of drew holiday last year. I think he's a fantastic human being a great player sunny easy decision. I just think that's what I would do. That's all okay. So here's what I'd say. I covered part of the game in the series two years ago when New Orleans swept the the blazers in the first round and I saw you holiday at his absolute peak. Shutting down to as much as you can shut down Dame Lillard. Okay I would never WANNA lose that player unless you know he obviously wage out at some point but I. I want that play on my team. I think that you know you're talking about about maybe replacing them with the US. Gary Harris Rush Gary Gary Harris can't do that so if I wanted to be a contender in the next year or two I think New Orleans has big big aspirations for next season. I don't think he's as easily replaceable. And I if I'm the world's already have assets and picks and stuff coming from the Lakers. It's it's a hard decision it is interesting. You bring up that series because that's series was four games. It has really changed the perception of drew holiday around the league. It it and we haven't quite seen that guy since that series but the playoffs just resonate and I think rightfully so the stage ages bigger. The Games matter much more I I was. I was at the the the Games in Portland They finished very very strong That year the the place was absolutely rocking. As you know. Portland can get I've been to four playoff games in Portland the last two years. They lost four of them because I was at the Western Conference finals last year but it was a jaw dropping performance by do holiday in that series. Did it leave you a Gog I was. I was a gawking at at at those games Denver. I've said this before and I'll just reiterate I'll see if view agree with me. 'cause you pretty much the exact opposite and your call today. Good if I'm Denver. I'm looking at the lay of the land. And I see the clippers and Lakers. I think the clippers the Lakers will both be stronger a year from now. You give the Lakers. They're exceptions. This summer you give them a chance to sign. More minimum guys is who want to join that team that chemistry there looks great. Looks like a place you want to go I think that you know depending on how much gas left in the Bronx tank Doc. I suspect the Lakers will be better year from now. I also expect the clippers to be better a year from now. They will retrofit a little bit that you give them another cycle. They have a great front in office. You're going to get a chance to get in Paul George more settled. I think both of those teams are better a year from now. I think if you're going to if you're going to take it from one of them this year or your take it from one of them. It's going to be now. It's going to be this year and if I'm Denver and I know that some of that I'm going to lose potentially two three guys off my roster because I just can't afford them become free agents. I just can't afford them. I sense that the time is now would go now. You like the problem is for them. They have have nobody to see. I mean there's nobody to go trade for you know so. If drew holiday became available I would seriously consider trading Michael Porter form and and people in Denver People in Denver with slapped me across the face for not I would not but my that we disagree. I would definitely not unless you know what the one wildcard is. I've got if I'M DENVER. I've got I've got the health does ebay and I know more about his health than any team in a league. I've presumably googlies put hundreds of man hours and expertise into studying it in projecting that long term. That's the only that's the only thing that could put but right now what he's doing on the court I'm I'm an absolute would know on it. So here's the thing..

"The name of this podcast. Look W e Bam ten dollars off your first purchase. That's Promo Code Low for ten dollars dollars off your first purchase with seek. I wish I could find a win. Now move for the raptors that makes sense because they they are if you're not watching the raptors watched the raptors. They are an absolute joy to watch. They are so smart. They pushed the pace. Everybody everybody makes the extra pass in the extra cut. They are like a thrill to watch. They have so many smart high. Iq Guys even without Kosovo. Who's injured right now? They've won eleven in a grow their on pace for fifty nine wins. You know how many games have won last year with Kawhi Leonard Fifty Eight and boy if they I just don't know I just don't the WHO the guy is. I don't know who who they drew. Holidays a good fit there. I don't know that there's a workable deal for both sides. I mean this is the thing you keep running into but I want them to make a win now a move just because it's more fun. I want Miami to make a win. Now Move I want all these teams to go for it Philly. I agree. We'll do something on the fringes. I Want Oklahoma City to make a window move. How about that? How that's what I like? They have all these pieces. Read that in your piece. I would be surprised if they did it because they have all those picks for a the reason it's to use them in trades down the line it doesn't they don't really care that they have a surp- they have more picks than they could actually roster over the next x amount of years there are thirty and twenty man. You think I think they got a real wing to play those Ferguson dort endorsement pretty good. Actually I like you know the Oslo etc minutes unit real WING IN THEIR DALLAS HOUSTON UTAH Denver. Like they don't want any part of that team in the playoffs. That's a fun team. I I don't see that happening. Sadly I will the team that I have heard some rumblings about as a surprise buyer and this I'm rich really surprised to me are the wizards in Washington. DC point now. That the wizards are in Tenth Place Zach. It's not an impressive tenth place. They're seventeen feet on thirty one three games out in the play of the playoffs. They're only three games out and I heard that they are quietly trying to buy. And not only that. But you know Bradley. Beal made some grumbles last week. I think you want Brad on the right side because even though he signed an extension This summer comes fast And I you know one of the one of the teams one of the one of the guys that I think is out there who Washington would have some interest in. I'm on pins and Needles Tristan Thompson is what you just said. Kristen John Thompson and also Washington has a you know they. They have some second round picks. Remember they took on all those Lakers players. They got a couple of second round picks in that deal. If a couple of second round picks from the from the Bulls they have sex. Some second round picks and I think we're going to see some some guys go for a couple of seconds own one second Like the cavs made the Jordan Clarkson Trade for two seconds they would prefer to move tristen for first but if we get to Thursday and there's a there's two seconds or something like that you know I could. I could see him moving somewhere I think Washington is in the mix there for that and I think I think there's some motivation from the cavs to cash out tristen at this point even though I think if he stays. There's a chance he could resign. This is what's happening right now. With seventy two hours less teams teams with players on the Tristan Thompson. Jae crowder level. And I think you can probably throw Andre Drummond into this. Even though he's a bigger name than those guys are asking for are good. I in exchange for them and teams Chasing better players in that are more coveted players in that are trying to get those players with bad. I like Marcus. Morris will give you a bad. I Davis for ten. We'll give you a bad. I and in the next seventy two hours the latter sort sort of team will either increase. Its offer to the point that they can get said players or the former sort of team the team with Tristan Thompson and crowder will deflate their offers to the point that you're talking about two. They can sell those players. And that's like what the next seventy two hours are about Tristan Thompson. Washington is interesting They have on me who's actually been somewhat. Okay for them shooting threes now Thomas Bryant just got back from injury Mo- Wagner was sensational to start the season before getting injured one of literally one of the best offensive players in the league per minute But he turned. It helped them. And you're right that the bill is looming right like this is why you won't see for `Davis Pertains traded for twenty twenty three first first round pick because the Bradley beal doesn't care about that Bradley. Beal needs to get better now or else. That situation could go sideways on them. So That's interesting to me Tristan Thompson I like it I I think the I think the cavs are going to absolute testing the total complete market for Tristan. They will always back it up with. We don't have to train them. We feel like we can extend him or even re signed him in the summer but you know they of course would never admit they would. It only took them for a second or maybe even a really good single second depending on how much and how what is your choice right do you do you do you do that or do you. Let's go do you lose the guy for nothing. Detroit isn't isn't totally boxed in with Drummond in that regard because he could just be on their team next year and like that can be acceptable to them. But you've heard some you mentioned on your podcast this morning. You've heard some drumming noise with a contender at West which which didn't shock me but is somewhat interesting so I have heard that the clippers are really. I know that there's been the clippers have been tied to ball. Handlers had been tied to Combo forwards and wings but I hear that. They're looking for a center that they're worried about Zubov even though they like zoo botch They're worried about you. Know a a series series against a series against Utah Denver and even to a certain extent against the Lakers but Utah Denver. Where they'd really need you know a true big you know they'd needed for thirty minutes They couldn't get away with You know you know mantras Herald would be a little bit compromise to a certain extent so I I heard they're searching for bags and if the price is right on Drummond have their first round pick that is as you pointed out They can't train another I at all except for this year the world will be underwater by the time they committed other first-round pick it's possibly true. Yeah so and I don't think you know the twenty sixth or twenty fifth pick in this draft is gonNa have materially changed their position so it's kind of burning a hole in their pocket to use it and they have some pieces that they could trade. The challenge would be you. You potentially get drum and cheap. The challenge would be you'd be you'd you'd have to be a multi player trade. You'd have to put together three salaries and he makes you be with Deniro. This is one of the things about the trade had machine that is is a is a flaw in my mind. I I have people. I see people constructing these trade. You have to pay attention to roster spots. You can't make a five for one trade or you know four for to trade if the roster spots on her arm available and yes there's if teams motivated enough it can happen. You can cut players. You can send then players elsewhere. Cleveland is a team that has to roster spots right now that would be glad to be compensated to take player to offer your hands. But but I I would watch any center of any center of of any quality if they're on the market if it's a true five. I would think that the clippers offers would be sniffing around based on what I hear. I think drums in that class. I think Tristan Thompson potentially is in. That is in that class although he's not the classic Big Egg. That you that you'd like but he's a swing big who's traffic offense rebound or has a history of playing great in the postseason. So I'd watch the CLIPPERS CLIPPERS AND CENTERS I. I don't necessarily think that they could pull off a drum and move but would be the best guy that fits what they're looking for. And you know again it would take Komo Harkness and Michael Green potentially and or or Patrick Patterson or and you might have to include Bochum that deal in addition to you to to pick so but I would just watch the clippers and biggs because I think that's I think that's one of the things that they're concerned about it. They they look at potential matchups in the West. Yeah it's interesting. I know I know they're concerned a little bit about heralds rebounding they're rebounding really falls off a cliff when he's in the game zoo is good Zubaydah's good he has great eight pick and roll chemistry with coli and they know that and I think that will weigh on their decision. A little bit they to me were the biggest lock in the League to do something thing and I think the challenge for them as like that first round pick I. It's still valuable to them. Even though it's like you said twenty twenty six like they can flip that draft for somebody else's there's future pick and get something that carries forward for them as a trade asset. But but I do think there I would put it this way. I think they're like half half a player away from being the best team in the NBA. And I picked them to make the finals as is so. I don't know necessarily that me to do. They really need to do something but just like they don't need us a huge thing but I just feel like they're i. I don't know what I mean by half a player but like it's a little bit of everything like a little bit of ball handling another twitter forward better than the Patterson. Joe Michael Green Mole Heartless Poo Poo platter. Like someone to play like six. Those minutes someone who can get they just need a little of everything and it's just like half a guy I don't know if Drummond's the Guy Drummond I don't know what that return is going to be for Detroit but that's a classic case of like and and it's hard for teams it's hard for teams like the Pistons particularly in in a market. That's not going to draw free agents like they're gonNA end up having traded drum in too late a year ago a year and a half ago two years ago they could have gotten real real stuff for under Drummond and that's easy for me to say because they were trying to make the playoffs and they did make the playoffs. And it's just like the jazz traded Dante exum too late and it's just like it just happens with your own guys and guys that you've come to care for and stuff So keep an eye on the clippers. Keep can I also just remember that. They're the clippers. Did a big complex deal just a year ago with the Pistons. The front offices have worked together. Well and one of the things that happened with at that trade. Although Blake Blake Griffin was frustrated that he was just signed a five-year deal then was flipped and still has a grudge. Judge against the clippers for both sides. came out of that trade feeling really good about how it went. They both felt good about it. So I think that those sides of worked together before before. I'm just sort of connecting dots. More than anything more than I actually think. That's actionable information is is this Cleveland. No one knows the casbah has been renewed for love. I keep hearing nothing. Nothing going on. We've fundamental problem here. which is that the the executives that I talked to think that taking on love is something that needs to be incentivized? Taking on to play with a hundred million dollars on his contract with that injury history like like the cavs would have to sweeten the pot either by willing to take on salary which they have shown willingness to do Or with an additional asset and the cavs feel feel the exact opposite. The cavs feel like that he is still a guy who can put up huge numbers and that the day should be rewarded for for trading. You know you have to pay for them. And that's a disconnect that exists right now and Try It hasn't softened. It's been like that since they signed that extension and just hasn't changed. The real problem with the cavs have is is that you can sit here all you want and have staredown with the your adversaries trying to make a trade and it's a really really important trade for Kobe album. Because we all know he's GonNa get traded at some point and that trade is going to end up being pretty pretty very important to them but actually on the court. It's it's a bad situation. Kevin has has been a problem child all year long. He's at times tried to be on good behavior but he's got into it with Kobe. He's gotten into. We've got into it with teammates. His effort level on the court.
David Stern's greatest act as NBA commissioner was supporting Magic Johnson after HIV diagnosis
"When you think about sports that have massive worldwide appeal their soccer of course and there's basketball wasn't necessarily always that way specially when he came to the NBA and back to the early nineteen eighties we can say the NBA was flirting with extinction David stern took over the reins as commissioner and grow it into a five billion dollar per year industry during his thirty years as commissioner former commissioner David stern died Wednesday afternoon at the age of seventy seventy had suffered a brain hemorrhage on December twelfth never recovered earlier on the who collected podcast with Brian Windhorst are Jackie MacMullan I've met a lot of amazing people in my life but he is the smartest person I have ever met Brian I he had an answer for everything now they also might not have always been correct but god forbid you challenge him which we all have done from time to time he was just here the sharpest sharpest mind in a very very sharp edge to him as well which I think he very freely acknowledged throughout his you know his tenure as a commissioner he had some blind spots of you know you talk about the blocks the people that supported him I don't know this for a fact that you've got to believe that Donald sterling was one of them because why else would he have looks the other way the way he did yeah I know that's that works landmark Georgian also so you know he he's nobody's perfect of course but I just what I liked about him was there were when things matter to him like supporting women in being fair to women and whether it was a woman reporter or these W. NBA players weather was being fair to African Americans and making sure they he was so fiercely supported in the other the other example I always give is magic listen Magic Johnson was HIV positive none of us understood it in fact even urban himself when he right before he was a how to go on stage to tell everybody this is what happened to be internal on and once in one rose in his agent months Adam you know what you're gonna say something you know what one of just going to tell them I'm just gonna tell my have aids and lan said home urgent you don't have H. you have the virus that causes age I was in seventh grade or something like that right in our sole so none of us understood the severity and and David stern was up late at night Colleen medical experts all over the world to try to stay one step ahead so he could understand this crisis that he was dealing with and of course you know when Irving retired the first time and then came back and retired the second time and then you wanted to come back when you want to come back the first time that's when everybody starts it will win and I the all star game Jackie right right right we also right but that was that was accepted because that deck didn't count no one was going to you know that no one was going to play too hard that was sort of thing is a one time thing will will and you know that was the Dream Team but then when he wanted to come back following that Brian that's when you started to hear the complaints wait a minute I don't want to risk my life there was and their owners saying Hey I am not in support of this I don't want to do this and and what David stern told was all right listen I'm just gonna tell you right now if we don't do this first of all you can expect a lawsuit and we need that kind of bad publicity the we won't let it H. I. V. person and then the second thing and this was the hammer this is the hammer David stern news and I don't think this is been reported very widely was widely was this okay if you're not going to let him in and we're gonna have mandatory HIV testing for everybody in the NBA and are you all sure that you don't have anybody on your roster that's HIV positive because I'm not sure and this is the kind of and he just he was going to do the right thing by Irvine not because he loved Ervin Johnson because you did because it was the right thing to do and those are the moments when I admire him the most when even though there was I mean his legacy was at stake there imagine if that had gone badly in the attic on rock and remember we know now all about HIV that is treatable that you can live a full life with it but you can't you can't get it from exchanging blind or or I mean exchanging you know some live or or but you know blood if you you know all these things that all these scary things that back then in that climate because I lived it everyone thought will if I get near him and hugs him I might get aids we have aids but this but David store was one step ahead and he was telling everybody you bet I'm you know I'm going to fight this fight and if you aren't willing to I'm warning you these are the things that could happen and now I mean Magic Johnson told me flat out he gave me my life back he saved my life that's what I've been told me and I believe on to saying Wednesday he was devastated quote David star was such a history maker when I announced in nineteen ninety one that I had HIV people thought they could get the virus from shaking my hand when David allowed me to play in the nineteen ninety two all star game in Orlando and play for the Dream Team we were able to change the world David stern died Wednesday at the age of

"Sometimes you know I think that because the two thousand and twenty eight classes so lean and it's it's a week class and much of the interest that intent for the the changes really are focused back on two thousand and twenty one and you mentioned Jaanus attendant. COUPO- obviously he's a free agent. Dan You know who knows if he makes the free agency he could resign before that you know he could. He could make it clear that he's not going to be out on the market. We're still a long long way away from that and it'll be interesting and that's going to be around the time that collective bargaining talks start to you know I think over the next next year think owners starting to formulate what exactly it is that they're going to start looking for looking for in the next. CBA talks and and certainly control and things small markets are GonNa want You know to have certainly revenue-sharing always a big part of it. That's really between between the owners but it'll be interesting to see you know some of the things we talked about with trade demands you know one thing the NBA. I've heard couple. GM's bring up with you. See Baseball compensatory picks. Were you lose free agent now baseball draft. Is You guys you get a first you get an extra at the end of the first-round right based on kind of free agent you lose and so certainly those will be things the players association will. That's an interesting concept because you know in baseball I don't I don't. I don't think this happens football. We need Japan for this. I'm probably I know I'm pretty sure that they stick like a little a little special round in between the first and second round compensatory around so one of the things that that is one of the more desirable sweet spots of the draft picks thirty one through about thirty six because you get first round talented in there and you don't have to give them a guaranteed guaranteed contract or whatever and there is some room there for some negotiation where you get but you could stick some compensatory picks in there that that certainly wouldn't make losing a guy like Hawaii Leonard Palatable but you know you could do something and there's there's little well known there but the other thing about twenty twenty one is so sense the cap spike in sixteen. The CAP has sort of crawled. It was such an enormous infusion of cash. This is why they call it. The spike that the cap is actually kind of is very only gradually grown and the forecasts that the that the league just gave the teams ahead of this week's owners meetings again predicted a very small bump in fact they cut it even by a million I think from twenty one thousand nine hundred thousand twenty but twenty twenty one however they figure that out they are expecting another little surge and and so not only do you have Janta Tenneco and maybe Gulp Clippers fans Kawhi Leonard and Paul George and and a very strong twenty twenty class but the cap is also scheduled to bump that year so so the teams that have these visions of getting there to Max slots get that little extra room so yes we knew for a long time probably a good eighteen months that the summer of two thousand nineteen was going to be wild it was wild and there are already indications all over the Dashboard that two thousand twenty one is headed for that and as you were saying maybe the NBA cognizant of twenty twenty one throws down a warning penalty to somebody in two thousand twenty to set the stage H. for everybody to follow the new rules in twenty twenty one hiring could be a slow process cafe Torres..

Here's the thing that the here's what happened with chinese folks they will put a piece of meat in their mouth and it'll have like five. I was sick bones it because they want the meat that's closest to the bone and then rally around in their mouths for forty five seconds and then they'll pull out these beautifully clean clean white pieces of bone having taken off every single more so like it's a cartoon with a fish and you put the fish scales the entire bone out like i don't like if amazing they cleaned. I you know so. I don't want meat that has eight bones in it. They want that those good pieces. I'm looking through through. I mean i'm do okay with chopsticks but i'm looking through the trying to find the peace without bones. They're not getting the other way to get the pieces with bone. That's that's a difficult difficult cultural thing that i'm trying to deal with th they just pick the bones right out of their teeth with the chopsticks. Now you're headed into your weekend what what has been what have been the highlights of the things you've experienced and <hes> and the most foreign thing you've experienced very well <hes> <hes> good question you know it's a very westernized in modern city and <hes> so it's it's you know it's it's foreign in terms of that. Nobody takes my language but at the same time you know i've had good pizza here <hes> but <hes> you know there's there's a there's a big culture for basketball here and so it's been enjoyable from that regard and <hes> <hes> you know the the team u._s._a. Wednesday in the team is now planning to suspend its star wide receiver the league's. No what were you saying so. Ah okay so i've been trying to find somebody with the box so been described to me here that if you have this this thing the box box doesn't have a name on it doesn't have a grand name. You can't buy at a store but if you have somebody with the box they can get every channel in america at any time and you know we've got college football and n._f._l. Coming up this weekend and i mean i can watch it if somebody has the box but if you don't have the box you have no chance angie akers bears last night <hes> you could have watched that but you <hes> you didn't get to watch that because the tonsure i'm trying to the browns game but if i need somebody in shenzhen sanjay with the box i'm looking for it. You certainly cannot use the phrase dream team with this group. <hes> and i do respect that they're that they're playing hard. You know when when u._s. has lost a big events in the past it's because they either don't respect the opponent or they haven't done the preparation preparation and you just loafing or whatever that's not the case here. He's playing hard. They understand their their challenge but this team would not win the n._b._a. Title. I don't think i mean i guess if everything went their way they would and it would be a good team but this is not a great team. <hes> and there's some teams over here that like not only are not afraid of the the u._s. convinced. They're going to beat them like serbia. Not only thinks if they're gonna beat the u._s. I think they might be them by fifteen and so like they don't don't even enjoy the you know when you walk in and the other team stare at them. It would have hit the net if it had been on the court but had enough spin to stay in. I've actually actually seen it happen before and a lot of people were alerted to this on twitter complaining. I'll have to rate all time great and you have never seen in this documentary. You have never seen a fame like the one maradonna has this documentary will show you a fame that you have never never seen in terms of how invasive everybody was entitled to the life of maradonna because overseas. I don't know if it's still the case now. I imagine so but the journalism is just different so everyone was entitled to his private life. It was t._m._z. long long before t._m._z. Everyone that was reporting. Everyone in fandom was entitled and he could he could fill a stadium idiom just by showing up even if he wasn't playing he experienced the fame that michael jordan did not experience. I never saw jordan. Get this and jordan was it is famous as any athlete has been lebron. Is that now. I what what is in this documentary i mean the documentary just continues to hit the point of it's a suffocating fame where it's physically at times hard for him to just move anywhere in the documentary. Do they show the clip of him in an all star game celebrating a goal by snorting cocaine that a friend brings onto the field. No this happened of a friend of his ran onto the field after he scored the goal an all star game and he's dressed in his uniform and he sniffs what's in the bag. There is a great fight. I hope you guys can fight it. Find it on youtube. There is <hes> the video they never show maradonna. Donna really being interviewed by the documentarian. 's on this show but there is a great fight that maradonna is involved in where there are four or five guys is remember when senator deans don was in a fight in the world company didn't use his hands even in the fight my head butting someone. There is a fight where four or five different sprint guys go flying in just kicking each other. They're just doing their fighting. Kangaroos would fight because they don't wanna use their hands and maradonna knock somebody over by just like running at him and kicking him in the chest. It is literally life. It's like kangaroos would fight. They wouldn't fight with their hands. Nobody was throwing punches. You have to find out on this at five foot. Is Dwight Howard Really a Viable Option for the Lakers at Center?
"Dwight howard is still on everybody's radar about maybe coming here to l. a. to replace demarcus cousins here's brian windhorst talking about how likely dwight's return to l. a. might be. I don't think it's a very likely marriage. I think the lakers right now are doing their due diligence on players unavailable centers joke him noah's another guy they've looked got and there's a process because dwight howard is a member of the memphis grizzlies he can't have free agent discussions with the other team so there has to be processed even have a conversation so that definitely taken place but dwight howard has been on four different teams in the last four years does not count the brooklyn nets who cut him and it may not glue the memphis grizzlies who may away the cut him if he can find a place to go well. I would imagine the memphis grizzlies would send a car to take him to the airport there. They're not going to be worried. I owe a the hands off dwight. You gotta make that he's our guy. They've probably got him at the airport the bus station or whatever it is they're going to do to get him to come to l._a. Lay the question is whether or not he's the best option here in l._a. Here's one horse talking about why he does not think it's a great fit. The lakers are in need of somebody who can be healthy and give them minutes minutes and that doesn't fit dwight howard or joe kim no art this point of their careers but i understand why the lakers are have those names on the list. I think this is unlikely. I i believe the lakers. Coach has won a younger more active player at this point in their careers a younger more active players sure but i don't know how often younger active are they walking around. I i was gonna say where where are they well. We did a poll of course obviously yesterday. Rods groups on twitter at which big man should the lakers sign and we put dwight howard or or noah it was fifty one percent a very close vote to dwight howard fifty one percent and i think you made a great point in earlier. Hey what do you have to lose. There's no risk you you know how much money and like you see one of these the n._b._a. Execs say hey they'll sign and if it doesn't work out just cut me. You don't have to give him a bunch of money. You don't get the grizzlies aren't gonna ask for draft picks to get dwight howard memphis. You just need to get him here and if it doesn't work and if at any point anthony davis or lebron or anybody else says you know what this guy i these gone. He's gone the very next day. There's no investment before when you're dealing with his deal and to get dwight is almost entirely unique. We've seen guys go from well-liked guys two guys that were less.
Sources: Lakers reach deal for Pelicans' Davis
"Yesterday on sports air. Here's Adrian wards now ski breaking down. The trade of Anthony Davis to the Lakers. This is a monster. Paul for the New Orleans pelicans to get to starters. Lonzo ball. Brandon Ingram an upstanding young player. Josh heart three, first round picks including the number four overall pick and Thursdays draft which allows the world not only draft Zion Williamson, at one, but number four, get another potential. Very good young player. But for the Lakers. They paid a steep price to get the player they had to get. They were able to keep Kyle Kuzma they had to get Anthony Davis. They weren't at the top of any big free agents lips. But it certainly changes the dynamic of that lake organization. What's next for the Lakers Agent Orange now on sportscenter who could they target in free agency. They'll get out into free agency this later this month, June, thirtieth and see if they can get involved with one of the big players on the market. Go Kemba Walker from Charlotte. They could certainly plug him in point guard if he doesn't resign with the Hornets he's a player that will be available teams like Dallas, New York have had interest in him. And you know there's a lot of teams in the marketplace looking for point guards this summer. You know, Jimmy Butler is another player if they are unable to come to terms on a new deal in Philadelphia. I think there would be some mutual interest soon as, as rewards announcing on sportscenter the Lakers. They get Anthony Davis a couple of weeks ago. It looked like they were in complete disarray with magic. Johnson. Rob Pelinka and everything going on there. Everything has now corrected itself with one major trade. The Lakers always find a way and tweeting just now for now expectation is Anthony Davis. Trade will be completed on July sixth league. Sources tell Bobby marks me assuming Davis. Declines to void four million dollar trade bonus this leaves the Lakers with twenty three point seven million in space. There is a chance that could be amended to July thirtieth, but it's still the sixth for now. Okay. So if it's six then the Lakers won't have the money to go out and get a MAC, Scott. They only have twenty three point seven. Look, if I'm over the key, here is that if they were able to wait for this deal to the thirtieth, July, thirtieth, then the Lakers would have that cap space. Go out and get Kemba Walker. Jimmy Butler someone else who wants max money. Yeah. Now, the question to me, and I love conspiracy theories, and I believe in them, and I think that you could get LeBron like what's stopping LeBron from going to the guys and? Saying, hey, Jimmy Butler signed a two year. I know you love Hollywood, your friends with the wall, burger guy with Donnie will Mark Mark, Mark Wahlberg, right? Yeah. What's stopping me from Saint sign a two year deal take twenty million a year or twenty million twenty million, whatever it is? And here's a part in Space Jam to for a couple of million dollars as well to, you know, just help to make it up somewhere else. Give some points on the movie too. You know, like let's get him some return on the DVD sales. Maybe to my point is what's stopping LeBron from doing this. There's nothing stopping LeBron from doing this behind the scenes. Okay. So why are you? You're acting like LeBron's our doing this. We know Brian Windhorst told the world on PTI back in mid-may that LeBron was having conversations with Kalat quite learn. Jimmy Butler even though quieter Jimmy Butler. We're still in the playoffs playing Jimmy Butler is still playing the first rider with Chris Paul. And Russell Westbrook yesterday. Yeah. I mean, and that's what he does LeBron does, and here's the key here, blocking dollar here on ESPN one thousand and ESPN app. This is why people love the NBA you have a chance every off season to remake your team. And to go for industrial bulls and the key here is this, you have right now, if you count the Lakers, what could possibly happen, this summer with the clippers the nets the Knicks the heat, the rockets, the seventy Sixers the Mavericks, they have cap space. And an owner who who wants to win and the Celtics that right there. That's nine teams in seven cities, all that will have interests this summer all with interest as what they can do to reshape their organization going forward trying to win a championship nine teams seven cities. That's what makes the NBA great is that movement is not solidified in the fact that you're in one spot, and you have to be there for your career, the NFL is built on the fact that you get a star quarterback and that quarterback will be your franchise until you don't want that star quarterback there. Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers will be together until Aaron Rodgers or the Green Bay Packers. Mostly the Packers don't want him to be there. Why? Because they can afford to pay him and quarterbacks. Don't move about in the NFL like star players in the NBA Ken, they can dictate policy. They can force it away somewhere. I get it some people erupts them the wrong way. But to others. It means your organs. Station each and every off season has an opportunity to take
Kyrie Irving Free Agency Rumors: Celtics star likely to move on in offseason; Knicks a 'possible destination'
"And many basketball fans expected the Celtics to be competing for a championship, too, but they underachieved and now they're all NBA star Kyrie Irving is reportedly considering joining the Lakers, Knicks or net. If he doesn't resign in Boston as a free agent June thirtieth few weeks ago. He SPN's Brian Windhorst said, may reunite with LeBron James in Los Angeles. But colleague, Stephen a Smith said, I got a text message from folks, close to Kyrie's family, quote. There is no way in hell, he's going to LA. I don't give a damn what anybody says from everything that I've been hearing over the last few days career has head in the New York City to the Knicks. Then. Yesterday. I have learned that kyri Irvine has given every indication to the Brooklyn nets that that is where he wants to go to New York. Knicks point is we don't know and Irving may not either it's
ESPN's Basketball Power Index on Warriors and Celtics
"ESPN's VP irate. He's release have the Celtics with the second best percentages to both make the finals at nearly forty percent and to win the NBA championship had eighteen percent. Only behind of course, then champion warriors, Chris are the Celtics. Now the biggest threat to the wars. This will come off as a completely Homer opinions. I cover, but I absolutely feel that way. And what I think is interesting is that we only saw them healthy for such a short glimpse last season and not just five minutes in the regular season where they actually look very good out of the gate. Their offense looked really Chris, but during training camp, you just saw there was supposed to be this time where we're going to take awhile for all to come together.

LeBron James is still underpaid
"To figure out if lebron james is still underpaid we called up one of the economists from that original report victor matheson from holy cross university he happened to be on vacation at the time in mexico i am in cancun i'm sitting at a pina colada by the pool under a palm tree no less i could touch the palm tree if i sat up from my lounge chair well don't do that don't strain yourself just lounge and we'll ask you about lebron james is lebron james still underpaid his salary's gone way up probably still underpaid lebron continues to get hosed even with a monster deal from the lakers because being the world's greatest basketball player means being responsible for a huge economic ripple effect think of ticket prices says victor for example in cleveland average attendance cleveland's went up in the game and of course places for the picket lay more than that we have seen some evidence that the very top stars might be making even at the nba maximum salaries still might be underpaid by twenty thirty fifty percents that means lebron james may still be underpaid by around twenty million dollars that's what i got my my peak it's out so i got i gotta get outta here thanks so much sure thing by for a second opinion on this we call it up brian windhorst from espn he's kind of the lebron james guy over at espn i sometimes in healty of making things too complex so we don't be afraid say hey you're not talking to nba board of governors here luckily brian says this is not complex he is still underpaid and yes because five six years ago the nba was bringing in about seven or eight hundred million dollars per year in television money from their broadcast partners turn on espn that number is now closer to two point four billion the tv money has tripled per year wow lebron james salary has only a little over doubled and of course a big reason tv money is up is because of lebron james brian says that if lebron salary was not tied up in all those nba restrictions and if teams were able to pay him whatever they wanted my guess is that a team in a very large market would probably offer lebron a deal approaching one hundred million dollars a year instead lebron will have to make do with that thirty six million dollar salary oh and by the way lebron is also getting hit by moving to california a state with the highest income tax and much higher cost of living than ohio so looks like poor lebron james just cannot catch a break
"brian windhorst" Discussed on The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz
"Things that happen around here as we wait for brian windhorst join us in thirty minutes ron mcgill later in the show to talk animals we got grandpa cody and with us he's very tired because he's been babysitting and nostalgic recently and he's got things to say about how baby raising was different back in his day because he's sitting here he's he's wearing me out talking about how tired he is because he's so sharp normally on tuesdays talking about how tired he is because he's been changing diapers for a few days so we will get to that but i need to address what is now clearly a full blown addiction that you america have heard happen in real time on the radio in the middle of the world cup these look we are doing national radio show here and i got misting style gic cody over here and then i got these words being spoken between two people i love around here one of them says i think serena is going to have trouble today the other one screams why aren't we betting it for detainment purposes only of course so they're now the show seems to have an entertainment purposes problem yeah soccer game start let's make why do you think serena williams is going to have trouble today explain to me what what does the analysis one oh she just had a baby maybe what are you guys doing what would you even want to happen in this match if you know extensively gambling were legal in this country and everybody was getting taxed and having a grand old time and we could just actually do this show which would be just yelling at a television screen while gamblers degenerate i'm rooting for serena usa all the way right but i've been watching serena lost a little bit of a step as you can imagine after having a baby well none of us can actually imagine that but you would think you know this is such a good point can you imagine the way we'd covered if lebron we're coming off of his pregnancy seriously like you've seen the controversy in that sport where she gets ranked allege she goes into these tournaments at a disadvantage in their punishing her for having had a baby at that's what ends up happening so she's got harder draws as she comes she was the twenty fifth seed this torn amount we all know she's the best tennis player in the world so working her way back even sheet admitted herself she's not quite packed to feeling like herself but i'm surprised that serena and wimbledon is in a bigger story considering she's the greatest american tennis player ever certainly greatest woman tennis player ever so we did nothing with that match will route first arena i did something with the other match because i can't wait around for world cup soccer i just can't there's another i never heard of either of these players julia georgia's and kiki burton's but i got georgia's burdens add tomorrow we gotta do i mean isn't there is added again mike who was facing order meal canadian milloz we have over one hundred as entertainment poor i don't only i don't care how many aces are in that over under total over there could be a million really really and i've never actually my come on if i if i put here we go i'm fine i leaned away from the mic i apologize i got a series issue here in mcgillicuddy sending people more test it's ridiculous why if you.
Los Angeles, Kawai and Espn discussed on First and Last with Lundberg and Golic, Jr.
"And please donate one hundred dollars that'll do a lot better for this upcoming season because as of right now all the lakers have is lebron james and that's what makes this move by lebron so very interesting and still puzzles me and even after talking with ramona shelburne and talking with george sodano it's still to come this hour brian windhorst are nba insider some of them who know lebron james inside out i get it this is a basketball move longterm began the four years for the braun is now going to be real simple it's laid out he's not going anywhere he's got at least three but he wants to build something what about a guy like kawhi leonard his name's been brought up right multiple times paul george's name was brought up but paul george was on stage smoking cigars with russell westbrook staying he's staying in oklahoma city great congratulations you've played in the four or five game year we go as they thunder you couldn't get past the utah jazz what about kawhi leonard agent world's rows tweeted right after the news of lebron james from lebron's company his management company that why is still basically lack of a better term hell bent on getting to los angeles espn stephen a smith my what i'm being told san antonio is asking for the house multiple drafted along with the young players the lakers have made it very very clear they're not giving up the form is off limits they're not willing to surrender him in order to get a wide let it be not willing to surrender three repay in order to get a wide it their mentality is a wild wildland says he wants to be a laker so whether it this year or next eventually he's going to be a laker you need to give something while you can't stand it tonio with holding down the fort there'd be an incredibly stubborn which is being right and obviously smart on their part and they want to make sure that they get as much as they can from a wild lennon the lakers have not given up but if a deal is made by thumbs time maybe tomorrow morning at the latest ten the lakers will simply assume that this is not going to happen and they will move on i would assume that very much steven a and this is something that the spurs are going to give any gifts to the lakers in afam the san antonio spurs i wouldn't either which then means the game is this a washed year for the lakers lebron james maybe but now you get a chance to play with the kids see what the kid's offer up and then you can attack free agency next year when kawai long as he doesn't do anything stupid like sit out can do whatever he wants one triple eight say espn what eight eight.
LeBron James agrees to 4-year, 154 million dollar deal with the Lakers
"Is the news that is gripped the nba the sports world the brian james is going to los angeles he will join the lakers he's agreed to a four year one hundred fifty four million dollar deal espn stephen a smith reports this is the entire length of the deal there were no optouts very similar to what he did in miami going for a four year deal espn's brian windhorst notes this is also going to be a longer process for lebron in l a that it was in miami's not just about what the lakers have today this is as well as mentioned this is a more of a wide ranging deal that is involved with lifestyle involved with business interests involved with the lakers can be and they have options to address the add star players and they've options to add key role players that lebron will be connected to and it's probably gonna take them a while two years so maybe to build up to what they can be that is bryant away and horst espn nba insider among the flyers who have joined kentavious caldwell paul gets a one year twelve million dollar deal in the breaking news moments ago lance stevenson has decided to join the brian james with the los angeles lakers nba free agency it's what to watch for yes the big domino is falling but what comes next what to watch for is brought to you by firestone complete auto care keeping cars running newer longer whatever you drive driveafirestone we had you back to.
Kevin Durant to sign one-and-one deal with Golden State Warriors
"The nba have remained as is you have kevin durant signing a one in one deal with the golden state warriors said essentially keeps their quote unquote death lineup where the hamptons five hour you want to call it intact for another season so we can expect the golden state warriors to get back to the nba finals i'm guessing the question for the warriors is the same thing that lebron james dealt with with dwayne wade and chris bosh with the heat sustaining that success over the course of the regular season and doing it again in the playoffs can be mentally taxing the golden state warriors very open about that with kevin durant saying the first year he was in golden state was a honeymoon season everything was fun it wasn't so much fun the following year but because the nba is so obsessed with speculation this one in one gives a max deals it allows the golden state warriors keep most most of us intact but it starts to speculation for twenty nineteen as to where he could end up so we're not done with this domino effect of who's going where based on kevin durant new contract deals like this that continue to make the nba the greatest league in the world mingka's you've got i it's the storylines tell an off on the court but superstars becoming free agents every year we were going gonna do this dance next year it's going to be kevin durant where's he going the offs is far more compelling than the actual season and for a for a free league that is very entertaining on the court that is saying something incredible and so look at the league gets it right durant yeah no longterm deal we'll be back here twelve months from now that's a win win for everyone including nba fans who love the drama the nba regular season is really just a preseason for free agency and if we're being honest that's all it is we're just we're just biding our time until we get to the real fun stuff chris paul's can stay with the houston rockets that's again one of those foregone conclusions houston rockets i mean they're just one game away from making the nba finals injuries also played into that so they have to feel good about where they were totally understand why they wanna keep going that direction and it also puts the bed the speculation that i saw during the regular season that lebron james could end up in houston they just don't have the space for it lebron james he's in l a he's going to have his conversations he's only going to have a phone conversation with the cleveland cavaliers my guess is he's gonna talk with the lakers i know philadelphia's also in that mix because of the cap because of how teams have stayed put in certain in certain situations like houston or in the case of oklahoma city with paul george there's really only three teams that would make a lot of sense to them in the east and if lebron james wants to get back to the finals the easiest path back to the finals then he's going to stay in the east despite the fact that dan gilbert has said through brian windhorst reporting and stephen a smith backing it up even though dan gilbert the owner of the cavaliers matt says he looks forward to try to build a championship team without lebron james dude you already had that opportunity once you got a couple of first round picks you never made the playoffs so they can get their issues aside and come back together for another season potentially because they're not going to get back to the playoffs without lebron james and if lebron james wants to get back to the finals his easiest path is not through the west with rebuilding with la it's back in cleveland or potentially something like philadelphia it's it's interesting because is it about getting back to the finals is it is it about that or is about winning a championship and and that's something that lebron james is is going to have to figure out because they saw this year that yeah they were how close i think he has to examine how close were we really to winning an nba championship sheriff gerald smith doesn't call that time out actually puts a back end and their one one going back to cleveland how different is the series i think dan gilbert i think that's just posturing that of just knowing the.
DeAndre Jordan opts out of LA Clippers deal, become free agent
"Espn radio sportscenter i'm steve lennox is expected lebron james did not pick up the option on the final year of his contract with the cavaliers and he will become an unrestricted free agent james could still sign a max deal to return to the cavaliers espn brian windhorst says today's news good news for one team in particular this is a good day for the los angeles lakers even though this was not a surprise is a step forward for the lakers and i believe the lakers have the inside track on getting lebron it's going to be very important when they present their plan to him but nancy johnson gets to get in his ear and shows him what he thinks he can do over the next couple of years if the lakers can close the deal in that meeting they've got a great chance to steal the ron away from the cleveland cast free agent class now includes james paul george chris paul de'andre jordan and demarcus cousins espn's adrian wargin nasty reports at the andrew jordan is opting out of his twenty four point one million dollar option with the clippers for next season sources say there strong mutual interest in negotiating a long term deal between jordan and the dallas mavericks adrian ask you also reports that the warriors and head coach steve kerr have agreed to a contract extension new deal will make him one of the highest paid coaches in the nba tiger woods shot a secondround sixty five today tpc potomac it matches his best round of the year red sox and yankees in the bronx tonight no scoring the second i ending in philadelphia nationals outweigh four nothing lead on the phillies trade turner and wants soda both at each you run home runs in the first inning for washington coming up monday the latest on lebron all of the.

Why it didn't work out for Isaiah Thomas in Cleveland
"Bobby marks job than hood glad you're with us here on espn radio will hear from michael c wright who covers the spurs at the bottom of the hour right here on espn radio we ask you to open up a tab in check out brian windhorst and david menem and putting together a terrific column on espn dot com regarding isaiah thomas arm briolettes talk a little bit about this this stories entitled why it didn't work out rise air thomas and cleveland um so i i the one of the reasons why i didn't choose cleveland to win the east is because i didn't like the roster composition as airtime was being part of that but it didn't work out could you can tell us about that call them that europe well it's working out for is aimed at night because he's got twenty point and they leakers are up by fourteen the last two minutes against the cavs and i'm sure he save during this performance yet gotta that the what happened when the cavs made this deal remember that they traded career of avoiding they really did to try to get that draft pick but they but they got they got isaiah thomas and they brought him to cleveland and they gave him an mri and they almost pulled the plug on the trade and when that happened it had an affect on a lot of different things especially on the way lebron james you the trade because lebron either he you're never going to impress lebron james with a draft pick i tell people this and they they seem to they can't believe it but the broadest only played with two first round picks who were rookies in the last ten years now to talk about guys who got drafted and then played with matt you're obviously he's got teammates were first round former first tropics he's never really had both of those guys were minor players jj dickson had norris kohl he's never been a part of a team that's drafted highly and gotten players in so he doesn't you're not going impress him with draft picks he wants to know who is going to play with him when he found out that isaiah thomas had a really severe injury was nothing against isaiah personally he wanted just what the hell the.
