"Do it. Make sure you call and get yourself checked out at blue hill. Medical group their doctors all over the world trying to see what they do to keep people healthy and keep them in the game and that's blue tail medical group dotcom. Let's bring in. Brian walton of the car donation dot com. And we do this. Every wednesday and brian does a remarkable job covering the minor leagues in impotence regular The saint louis cardinals is always brian. Thanks rob and on how you doing. I'm doing great gan- it say interesting day. I was kinda hoping we'd see game seven or the world series. But congratulations to the brace for wrapping it up and six. What are your takeaways from the world series. And when i asked that question. I'm wondering about openers. i'm wondering about bullpens. I'm wondering do guys ever go deep into a game anymore. Strategy what what did you take away from the world series. Hey i really like max freidan game six and that was the old fashioned way. I still think you know teams that play one way during the regular season and change their whole motive operation in the postseason causes skepticism. On my part. I i really feel that way. You know the braves again are a good example of a couple of things. I think one is that they were willing to make changes. They lost a number of guys and they made changes midseason brought in some bats of really new outfield and that a team that you know is a division winner. But you know didn't even win the most games of any of the one the least games. Six division winners got hot at the right time and a three hundred win teams. All were sitting home during the world series. So you know. It's all about the right kind of moves in season. Peaking at the right time and you know the atlanta braves deserving champions and now we look forward to twenty twenty two although a little bit of a cloud overhead right now and probably will turn into a big crowd cloud which is depending cba which will expire in december december first and then into the second and then. It's a lockout. But i am curious from a cba point of view with the major leagues. How this if any affects the minor leagues. Because i do think people wonder. Are we not going to baseball if the cba isn't You know to a conclusion and that's not the case because the minor leagues continue to roll. Yeah well you know if an interesting situation to end the minor league minor leaguers have no representation at the bargaining table. Even though there will be issues that affect them that come up but in terms of if there's burke stoppage whether you call it a lockout or a strike or whatever it is it's going to affect the minor leagues as well teams are going to close camps to players and you know come springtime There won't be camps open. There won't be any way for the major leagues memories to work out until Tele deals are done in even narrow turn closer term. There's a.

"How's it going brian. Great dan. it's always a pleasure to talk about cardinals baseball well last week. You were down in jupiter. And i wanna get into that in just a moment but i want to get your impressions of the milwaukee brewers after watching the game last night and seeing burns then box burger then going to devon williams. Then go into josh later. Seen a revamped lineup that i wouldn't even put Let's say Yelich your kane. Who i normally would say. Oh they had those two guys. I on my list. Not that they're not good. They're very good but man they've added to their lineup. I can see why If you follow the milwaukee brewers. You're pretty high on this team. That's a very good team. you know. i hate to throw his words back in his face. But john was as often talks about being opportunistic. And if you look at what. The brewers have done and putting together their team. That's exactly what they've done. They had a good young pitching staff already with burns and woodruff and peralta guys who've stepped forward to another level this year and then of course the bullpen guys. You you hit it on but they also went out and got some position player piece pieces that they needed not just in the off season when they picked up colt along on the rebound a tremendous edition and a big blow for the cardinals to have lost. But also then you know a couple of players Other players in in there Infield and outfield of sale garcia and and Will the dhamma. So you know. The brewers have really done a nice job of putting together a team. That seems to have meshed very well. And you know they're playing baseball. That is befitting for a team that as a a runaway lead in the division right now and of course. Brian walton is Very attuned to what's happening in the minor leagues you to spend some time down in palm beach show watching palm beach play A lot of young players and obviously where the cardinals train for spring training so a number one. I hope it wasn't too hot for you brian. I always worry about you there. But i digress Let's talk about the baseball. And what she saw and who you're able to visit with. What was the experience like for you. Yeah for me. The timing of the visit was to coincide when palm beach was home so that i could also see the florida complex league cardinals during the day. And that's the what used to be the gulf coast league and the cardinals played things differently this year with their draft class. They brought all the players in. There's twenty four players between the the players who were drafted in the non drafted free agents. That were signed. They brought them all into jupiter and they assess their of physical status after playing wherever they played in spring. Whether it'd be high school or college and the position players were the first to go out. And all of those with the exception of joshua by the second rounder All went to palm beach and in palm beach. It's this weird season. Where the beginning of the year they had the backlog of guys who were drafted last year. The jordan walkers and mason winds who were getting their first professional action They had a guy from twenty nineteen. Who was getting his for section. Tommy g outfielder who had been hurt the previous year so they had a lot of guys that were getting their feet on the ground but did well and and moved on. there's half a dozen hitters. Todd lot caprine eac others who who move forward from palm beach and you sort of had this big hole in their offense and they were filled then by players who were drafted this year In twenty twenty..

I mean the defense in the sixth inning with carlson edmund and the play by o'neill to finish the game You're getting a little bit of everything on this road trip from titus o'neil. It was just a thrilling game. That was a great game in june for major league baseball. It felt like a playoff game. And i know that term can be overused but i mean you got close game. The cardinals are taking that lead into the seventh inning. And you feel pretty good. You've got your top guys. In the pin guy. He goes gives up the crucial home run and the momentum and the cardinals continued that great defense. And let's not forget it mondo salsa who has just done a tremendous job filling in for the young with that big yet to put the cards back ahead and of course you know o.'neil.

"Have a chance to be. Going down to Bush stadium or Yankee Stadium if it's they're wherever but I wonder if that's something that baseball will look to to say, Hey, this great chance to make a ton of money, but it's also something that allows us to eliminate travel days and it also allows us to put it in a warm weather climate i. think you hit the nail on the head and the is going to. Be Money. Let's face it. You know twenty twenty was a disaster for Major League Baseball financially now you know that doesn't mean any Ba-. Teams are going broke or anything like that. But you know they will definitely you would think look for ways creatively to raise some more money. So you know that's certainly something could be done I. Think we've seen football do it for a long time for example, the NBA NHL You. Know they've still continue to reward home fans with being able to see those games. It would be hard traditionally for me to embrace but you know the bills have to get paid and ultimately the we don't get a vote as fans or as media people. You know ultimately, it'll be between the players and the owners, and if the the share enough money with that players, you know you could see it happen Brian Walton the cardinal nation dot com guest. Now, you have written a lot about the roster moving forward of the Saint Louis Cardinals you put out a piece this morning about that Tell me what you you kind of dove into what you're finding out about the roster of the cardinals I came into this story looking at it from the context of. Free agents to be animated right in your ear Molina because if you look at the last couple years. WAINWRIGHT has gone to free agency and the reason he's had to do that as that baseball rules are such that until you reach for agency, you're restricted on the amount of salary you have in your next contract to eighty percent of your previous deal, and if you actually hit agency then all bets are off.

"Snakes appreciates our community. Community and they want of their shoppers to know how much they mean to them. It's a Wednesday, and as always we talk it over with Brian Walton of the car donation dot. com We do have baseball back. We hope it works out. I mean we are hoping. We are wanting baseball I mean. We were wondering if it would happen on the fourth of July took forever. It seemed like to get the agreement. We have an agreement in place, and so that means that fingers crossed. We will have baseball Brian always great visit with you. How are things going? Great I'm just pleased that. The labor issues between the two sides are not going to be in the headlines for a while, and now we can try to focus on what is going to be a wacky twenty twenty regular season, and that's still doesn't mean they're going to be grievances filed, and you know the bad blood continues, but at least that's going to go in the background, and now the focus can be on, you know. How do we hope to see? See Major League Baseball Games guarding on July twenty, third or twenty four, I look at a sixty game season as an outlier as I've been saying forever I. I think it can be fun. I think this can be exciting. as I said an outlier. I just wonder canvas. Realistically be done We've gotten the safety protocols. Now it's over one hundred pages agreed upon by Major League Baseball and the Union Realistically. What do you think? Can this be done? Well I. Think they'll try to find a way to get started, but you know the major questions that I'm sure you have and I haven't probably everybody listened. This is what's going to happen when the outbreaks occur, and you know what's the what's the point at which a team can continue to play by bringing in happy squad players, but at what point?.

"While. He acknowledged these contingency plans. We talked about the Arizona plan where they all go to thirty go to the Phoenix area or the ones that are split pretenders in Florida. He says none of that's going to happen until the health officials say that. It's okay to do and you know because they realize. Hey it's not only safety to players coaches the club You know the grounds crew You know all the people that are that are involved in the game and you know the the requirement to try to keep them all protected environment. Where we're still in this unknown situation like we are now would be very very difficult. One of things I love doing is reading. Brian Walton at the car donation dot com because of your constant every single day literally everyday your coverage of the cardinals minor league system. And we're talking about what happens with the major leagues. I kind of overlooked in this whole thing is is the minor leagues. And you know we've heard so much about well would you start dealing Carlson and his Service time and you think about the development and Nolan Gorman and you think about Matthew Liberty for but I'm just curious if you think there will be a minor league season to go along with a major league season. It doesn't look that right now. I mean we don't know yet. What scenario Major League baseball will will undertake with rosters? We know that once they get the go-ahead to reassemble. They're going to want to rush through spring training number two as fast as they possibly can and that means pitchers won't be as ready so they'll have to have large rosters. The question is how large you know. We know they're gonNa be twenty six twenty nine we could they bring off forty man on the forty man roster you know could they make adjustments in forty man roster? Seda put a guy like Carlson hundred forty man. But if you do that if you've got forty guys majorly camp in it's a shortened season. You know you're going to be well for any from any injuries. You'RE NOT GONNA need to call guys up. But then the other side of the argument says hey if you can get players to come back to a spring training facility where things are under control. Why couldn't you also had some minor leaguers? Come in and they could plan the backfield but the key point is baseball as we know it is games being played in a hundred and sixty different locations across the US and those minor league teams need the revenue from the tickets and the concessions to live. And it's hard to envision a scenario I mean just for thirty Major League teams to play a again at home this year but now you think one hundred sixty minor league spent so many different states. It's just the mathematics. Are you know have to lead you to say? It looks really tough logistically for that for that to happen. The next Minor League and Major League Baseball meeting is coming up on the twenty second. What are some of the issues on the docket out of the outside of the obvious things which is will you play? But what else is going to be talked about? Well I think the big focus in this meeting. And they're going to try to pick up the discussions that SORTA got dropped on. What the operating agreement for Major League and Minor League Baseball would be starting in twenty twenty one last winter the proposal to to go from one hundred and sixty down basically one hundred twenty minor league games. Got a lot of attention and the rumors. Are that Major League. Baseball is still very much in your wanting to make that happen. It's not going to be a clear Situation where every team in the short season leagues are going to get cut. Some of them will survive and they'll be some juggling around but the point is they want they want to cut twenty teams and it. The rumors are minor league baseball. They said Hey. You know we'd like to wait another year give us. Let's get through this corona virus thing and then we'll figure it out and Major League baseball saying no in fact you know we want to take greater control over You Know Minor League operations. We don't we don't want it too late now. The interesting thing I ballpark digest. Sorta story about this. I think was on Monday. Where they kind of talked about some of the details of which teams might move and all that but then sort of down here on the story they. They shared a rumor. That Major League Baseball May Add eight more minor league teams and the reason that they would would be that major league. Baseball would expand by two teams and those two teams and would need for full-season teams each and major the the rumors Major League baseball is motivation for expansion. Sooner rather than later was the words they use was to help them recoup some of the lost revenue from twenty twenty. Whether of course not you know tickets advance coming games by the expansion fees that these new owners would have to pay ticket a major league franchise that was very fascinating and something that will WanNa keep an eye on but the league. Baseball doesn't look like when embassies in this year. That's going to hurt a bunch of teams financially and Major League Baseball. It's you know it's rumors. Correct are definitely going to press ahead full speed to do this streamlining of the miners for next year. Now you caught my attention. That's fascinating the potential of expansion. How quickly could you do it? And what cities do you think that they may be looking at well? That's the season have been rumored of course Montreal got got a bad break for Major League baseball on the whole Jeffrey. Loria transferred to Miami thinks. So they're right near the top list We've heard about Portland Oregon. Las Vegas is a prime location You know the growth in Texas where to San Antonio Austin Charlotte You'll that whole area. North Carolina area is really booming. Even somewhere like national. So there's a lot of potential candidates if not for major leagues and you know a potential Florida you know. High High Level Minor League teams and the interesting thing about a potential expansion. Is it really dovetails with a lot of things that rob. Manfred has been talking about expanding the playoffs. Now you have thirty two teams so you have six divisions of fourteen each kind of like the NFL. You know you have expanded playoffs. Everybody is probably gonNA play the same rule so that designated here goes away. Which by the way was another thing that would have happened would happen with this Arizona. Florida plan you got Houston in Saint Louis. Same Division right so you're going to probably go with a designated hitter all the time so there's a bunch of stuff that makes us expansion idea very interesting you know terms of readiness. It's all about You know having a stadium. First of all And then of course you have to think about things like expansion draft and how you staff staff the organization you. It wouldn't happen for twenty twenty one. That's for sure but if the idea is to get some more money flowing into major league baseball expansion fees are certainly way to do it because likely not owners would would start to pay their. You know their fees over time. Maybe you know as soon as the franchise awarded you know what's interesting is this maybe for the D. H. We may have seen it for the final time haven't we? I think you're right. Dan In you know any of these plans that that caused teams to to restart a different kind of configuration is likely going to put American league initially teams together. Not Just for you know twenty Interleague Games a year but you know every every you know the same division playing every week so yeah I think I think it is a hitter is not gonna die necessarily I mean sorry. The lack of a die necessarily because folks given up on it but just the necessity of the reconfiguration of baseball to try to figure out a way to get going as quickly as possible. And you're talking about when we come back in Kamata this you know you're creating jobs then for the players association. So they're they're probably going to be eager to say. Yeah we'll we'll go ahead and give this one we want. We want this to be a part of the game absolutely to two expansion teams me eighty more forty man roster players. I mean that's a net increase their union. That's a good good deal and you know and as noted it would you know. Put some of those minor-league jobs back in because you would have more. You would have these additional minor league teams that would be you know for these new organizations so a little bit into the impact of the of the reductions that are occurring across in. Certainly it would be re juggling. I don't know if you know this off the top of your head. What do you think an expansion fee goes for any any idea? Do you remember what it was? I am but you know it's interesting. I mean you look at the Forbes values. It came out to valuation of Major League Baseball Franchises. Here we're talking about you know Establish Franchise with cartilage where two point two billion dollars. Now I'm sure Mr Dewick in part is to WANNA sell the cardinals. But that's the that's the assessment of of of Forbes to the value of team. So you know we're talking about you know big big money to get into Major League baseball expansion. You know something that they don't do very often so you know you want to be a major league owner. You know this is a chance to to pony up. Finally speaking of money We know unemployment. Across the country is skyrocketing and and Major League baseball executives are are taking a pay cut to try to help out aren't they? They are and that's a positive thing that major league baseball has done Manfred announced that he and his executives will will take a thirty five percent pay-cut in addition they committed that they would pay all their employees through the end of May Talking about a major league baseball headquarters and all those people and that's that's only a few teams have done that most most of the teams so far. I've only said we're GONNA pay through April and will will look at me when we get there but you know it's kind of interesting because it feels like a to baseball you know going to the players and saying hey you know we took cuts to. You'RE GONNA YOU. You know you're going to have to figure out a way to take less this year as well and the players have done that on this temporary basis because at one hundred seventy million advance that it'll be able to the To the major league players sounds like a lot of money. It's five thousand dollars a day. Hundred thousand dollars a month. That's not a lot for a major league player. Most of them are making more money than that. But this may thirty one deadline now is really. You know 'c looking like it's going to be a huge thing because that's when the players money stops that's when you know the minor league money stops and at that that's going to be a major inflection point. I think as to where. Mlb makes a call on. Does it look like we're going to be able to get going or do we have to negotiate some kind of new agreement to keep some money flowing Until they think they could start the carnation dot com. "I'm curious Brian. And that's from the minor league perspective of those owners. Do any of the major league teams. Are they affected by no minor? League season meaning lost revenue or were there certain teams that were really good at generating at least a little revenue for clubs. I don't know if you know that but I'm just curious. You know primarily now. Minorly clubs were required to share some of their revenue with Major League Baseball. But it wasn't huge I I I and listen. I don't know the details of financial books but my perception is that the minor league system is a loss leader for the major leagues because they have to bear today in today's world the entire cost of the players and coaches and support staff now. The the teams handle their own operations in running the ballpark and all that and they get to get some like somebody take money back immediately baseball. But I don't I don't think it's significant but going forward is if you know these these teams that lose their affiliation. In twenty twenty one they would then be required not only to pay the players in the future. They're not affiliated but they would have to get the expense to scout them and find them to to hire them. And that's why the feeling is that you know mostly played these teams that ended up being on the cut list probably are not going to be able to survive. I find this part of it and I'll wrap up this and then I wanna get into what you're doing on the website but I find this really interesting of what a major league roster. Let's just say for argument's sake that we know July first July fifteenth of June first. Whatever it is they're gonNA come back and they're going to play Major League Baseball I'm fascinated. What a major league rosters going to look like because you're going to multiple doubleheaders. Let's say you're playing in Arizona. It's one hundred ten degrees. You got no off days. You've got pitchers that aren't ready for Major League season. So you've got to protect them. You'RE GONNA have to protect some of your position players to. I'm just fascinated. How many of those minor-league guys would be on a major league roster yet I mean. The the initial rumors were well. You might be twenty nine but that you know that wasn't part of any of the former discussions that we've heard about and the other question. Is You bring major leaguers into one place. Where did you bring my leaders in as well because again from the expense side if they let's say they in creek crazy and said okay all forty off forty guys on the forty man roster are eligible to play? Will that means all those guys get major league salary and they accrue Major League service time and so there's an expense consideration. You know that baseball has to think about as well. Because of course they're not their their their ticket revenue their game revenue from these games. So there's a balance point somewhere in there again. I heard nothing about. This is just me off the cuff. Maybe they bring a group of minor leaguer stairs zone as well and had them play you know have them play in parallel and in and they draw your from them. I don't know I will tell you though the afternoon temperature thing is a big issue and so you know probably they you think they might have to play games at night which you know the ONA's not daylight savings time so they're basically on the same time is Pacific coast so you're talking about for the major media markets in the east. If the evening games they won't start until ten PM tonight and Saint Louis go be nine o'clock gains and you know the good news is of course we're not getting up and going to work but you know folks are going to have trouble may stand up till twelve or one a M to watch baseball. Even if they're able to resume an Arizona. Yes show many questions with that proposal. In many proposals that are out there My final question to you. You do a fabulous job at DECARLO NATION DOT COM. Brian Walton is with me every week. I'm curious what you're working on right. Now what what keeps you going every single day because in a normal season Brian Walton? Has Something on Thanksgiving Christmas new years? Easter doesn't matter. You've got something every single day. So what's keeping you busy right now? Normally in the off season you'll be working hard on prospect list and all that but of course with nobody playing prospect lists are changing. Why I had my listed wrong list to do something that I wanted to work on but never at the time which is to go back and document the history of the cardinals minor league system and so. I'm in the midst of working on that. I've just put the finishing touches on ten thousand words just on class a only so that's like the Mid West League etcetera where puree is right now and so I'm basically I started with a system and ongoing level by level. And you're talking about the leaks and I'm GONNA go down to the individual team level and then depending on how much time there is also be writing about the top. Statistically or so who are the top homerun hitters and Cardinals Minor League history? Who's won the most games that SDR A so? There's a whole bunch of things that I've been wanting to for some time Again the history of the system that Doing so you know we still have new content every day and that's a goal that I put.

"Every Wednesday. And if you love the cardinals you love hearing about the stars of tomorrow the one source to go to his Brian Walton of the Cardinal Nation Dot Com Brian. I want to say good morning to you. Happy Wednesday and hopefully you're in good health and things are going well for you. You have gone ahead down now working on new cardinals. Minor League content that we're going to deliver every day as long as this goes on until we get to the real thing. Yeah doesn't stop for you. Does it no baseball guy all the time? And you know it's it's good for me therapeutically to keep writing and keep working at. Frankly there's been a lot of work that I've I've got. You know spreadsheets and data about the history of the cardinals minor league system. But I've had for a long time but I've never had a time to really take the time to go down and sit down and write about it because you know we have. We are structured such that you know as soon as the offseason scars we start on the prospect worked for the next year and now with instructional camp and early January winter. Warm up and now everybody's in spring training in February. It's just time for a series of forty fifty articles. Which is what I'm planning at least on Breaking down the history of the cardinals. Minor League system I kind of at the system level and then by individual level then looking at the top players in history at each of the levels and the top players by statistical category so the top homerun hitters and the top your a pictures and all of that so going to do all this and hopefully that'll titus over and talent the Geoghegan Training Inskip. Yeah absolutely One of the things that got brought up this last week was compensation for Minor League players. At least through what would have been their spring training. Maybe you can get into that and explain what that means for those minor-league players yeah normally Players of course players Marley players are paid a salary and tell their seasons begin. So you know for the full season players basically April until the beginning of September. So they're not all they received during spring training normally as small per. I think it's about twenty twenty five dollars a day. What Major League. Baseball decided they would do is across the board all players would receive a stipend of four hundred dollars per week. And that is decided at least until April ninth. When the original opening day for the minor league season was designed to help the players get through this period. Where OF UNCERTAINTY? What's going to happen? In April night is yet unclear in the thing I find interesting about that is normally in a normal year for example. What would happen on April night? Shortly before one hundred players would leave minor league camp and they would hit the Memphis in Springfield Palm Beach in Peoria will be replaced by another group of huge group of players. Those same number who come in for extended spring training camp and those are the players that are competing would-be convenient for jobs at stake college. Gulf coast when those in but they're also ready reserve so that when there's injuries if there's an injury in the system peoria or palm beach or wherever then they can draw these players from extended spring training who are in shape and playing shape and ready to go and they dropped into these leaks usually into peoria and then there's kind of a domino effect. So what's going to happen with these players that normally would come in to extended spring training on you the beginning of April while you're not gonNA come in And they're not gonNA get paid either. So you know this whole question of you know. Paying paying the minor leaguers it could increase substantially in terms of number of players. That are going to be involved in this next round assuming that baseball continues to do something to try to help the players through this time when there whether or not receiving any compensation so we're hearing so much about the various levels in so many players and it leads me into the George Kissel award winner and number. One tell folks what the George Kissel award is number two The gentleman that wanted this year he has been. Let's see there's no other way to put it? He's been as busy as anybody in the game of baseball. Probably the initiated the George Kissel award to And it was done back in the in the mid nineties and the idea was a peer recognition across the entire player development function. So you know. It's a managers. The coaches strength conditioning You know anybody who's involved in player development votes on this basically and they select the peer that they think most reflects the the Credo of George. Kissel the the focus on fundamental the caring for others in the organization Excellent Teaching And really just personal example and you know George Kissel of course is one of the one of the people that you think of when you think of the tradition of the cardinals both at the minor league at Myrlie into Major League as well so The George Award is given out every year that the cardinals have an orientation meeting the first day of Minor League spring training camp and so in one of the things that they could go through Really all the recognition from the previous year so all the players that were all stars near leagues who were players of the week players at a month. All those guys are recognized but then they also announced the George Kissel Award and the winner for Twenty nineteen that they announce here just a few weeks ago. Is Tony Ferrara? And Tony's guy he's one of these glue guys that you know nobody really knows about. But he's basically the right hand man to farm director Gary Iraq and he is responsibility for the movement of players and coaches everywhere. All the time. And it's it's but it's much more than just a travel agent and if you just think about the fact that he's responsible for I don't know two hundred forty two hundred fifty players and another eighty staff people and he has to make sure that everybody's where they need to be and the most ironic thing about this and so he's kind of job that when things go well you take it for granted and when things get screwed up you know you get yo. It's obvious right away. But he doesn't ever screw up and he's just loved across the Organization for what he does for. So many people about Gary told story Becker in winter. Warm up about a player who is trying to get off from instructional camp and got stuck in Chicago and and Tony Manage to get him a flight out of the airport but got into the other. Airport made sure yet translation and then got him home in time but the funny thing about not funny but ironic thing about this literally. The day that the cardinals had orientation meeting was also today that it was decided that they're going to have to shutdown camp. So Tony got to joy must have got to joys award for about ten minutes and then he ran off to start working plans to send one hundred seventy five guys home immediately because of the closing camp because of the virus conserve. I can't imagine what he went through. It's just amazing and it's just so ironic that you know right. When he was recognized immediately Joe Beck into fire drill mode about something that nobody really expected that you know that the players who really has gotten there now have to turn around and go home. There are cuts. That were made by the cardinals. Austin Dean Justin Williams at Mondo said Jake Woodford if this was quote unquote a normal season. How do you think those guys fit into the plans both in the minor leagues and potentially eventually in the Major League Baseball? Well guys that are going to be in crippling Memphis man. I had no so so we thought maybe coming into camp would have a chance to compete for a job and as a reserve infielder. 'cause he's a very short stop. But when Brad Miller was brought in you know it kind of looked like both he and Jeremiah's who of course has left organization you know it's Sorta looked like those guys were you know can be the odd man out now. You never know what. Injuries and whatever Jake Woodford circle back to being in the AAA MEMPHIS. Rotation Awesome Dean played very well and camp. I mean he's not. He's not a goal governor outfield but he was confident in the outfield. And he's still you know he showed he can swing the bat but you know all along it was assumed at Austin team would be fifty five guy. Sorta be that you know that outfielder and reserve and so they decided to go ahead and make these moves Interesting all these moves were guys who on the forty nine roster so they were optioned officially optioned out to the minor leagues and that has an effect on the compensation they receive now. Granted baseball. Hasn't figured out what? The Compensation Be Formation Lakers during this time period but in this case now they'll be considered minor leaguers. You Know Minor League forty nine players rather than major league forty minute players so in camps do resume that they'll report to minor league camp with with all the rest of the guys in the now. We did know that. The cardinals made an announcement with Dylan. Carlson being their minor league player of the Year on Hal Rondo and being the Minor League pitcher of the year but during that orientation that you spoke of earlier those two were to receive their awards and be recognized. But you know we know about Dylan. Carlson he's a hell of a player. But what about On how Ron don't. And maybe his rapid rise this system don't might have been. The most unsung player could mcardle system in twenty nineteenth. He's a guy that when we did our prospect ranking a year ago. He didn't even make our tops fifty. I identified him as my as my deep sleeper. Pick up your young again. Constant always young for his levels but hadn't ever been in one place long enough to to show his success and so what happened was he got shot. I at Palm Beach Really Tore Up Palm Beach and then moved up to Springfield and continue to pitch. Well such that on Hill Ron. John was the era leader in the Texas League last season. And that sort of you know. That's a pretty impressive result for a guy who didn't even start the season at that level and for that accomplishment. He moved all the way up to number eight on our on our prospect list in Harare don't just turned twenty two years old Right before Christmas so you know very young guy right hander and logged his era at Springfield last year. We saw three point two one and well doesn't sound an impressive when you think about the Texas League and that's a hitter friendly league small ballparks and but he was basically the best starter league at age. Twenty one years old in terms of if or when the season resumes What do you think happens with a minor league season as compared to what may be happens with a major league season? I understand. That's a tough question to answer? But what are you hearing from people that that cover the minor leagues his two for a as far as how their season may unfold. Well you know it's really interesting question and I'm going to start at the end kind of worked my way back. Let's take the scenario that some people have talked about for the major leaguers that the major league scheduled might continue through the month of October in the postseason is moved to November. A reasonable scenario. Right I mean the other some weather issues all but she has to say. Let's just take an assumption? Well now couple that with the fact that rosters are only going to be twenty eight players for the last month..

"The winter meetings have begun there in the middle of it right now. There has been some movement which is good but from a cardinal perspective Great Great Movement because it means Ted Simmons has been elected to baseball's hall of fame. And it looks like the committee got this one right. At least in my opinion you know there were a number of very good candidates for the hall of fame. In fact my you is that all the guys you know that were up Hella. Good case there. That's why there can't fame but realistically I I don't know Jay voters get three or five picks but you know they go through a discussion where they of course look at stats and then the. The members of the committee discussed the merits of the various candidates. And we're talking about people who understand baseball very well. I mean former players like George Brett for example members of the media. And so you know. It isn't something that people took very lightly lightly and this time around tip Simmons who is one vote short of the twelve of sixteen thirty needed. This time got in and of course Marvin Miller the most influential chill the most influential union leader arguably in the history of sports finally got in and that was another one that was overdue. But you know great for cardinals fans to see Timothy. Let's go in the hall of fame and and the interviews. Hopefully everybody went to your site to To See you know he was very very candid about you know what baseball was meant to his career in the hall of fame would mean to him and it's just delightful to see Ted Simmons get in and you can tell how much it means to him. It means so much to him in I thought his response when I asked him. If you don't get in what would it mean to you. And he was very introspective and very respectful of the process. But now that he's in he doesn't have to answer. I answer that question anymore and you could just see in the interviews last twenty four hours. Brian how relieved he is. I mean you see. It's just a a weight lifted off his shoulders and it's like now i. There really is nothing more that I need to do to solidify my baseball life. If you're Ted Simmons and you know it's not a thing that you like to talk about it I'm certainly I don't WanNa Be Incense folks to think I'm insensitive but you know you wanna see guys stand up and get the honor while they're still with us while they appreciate it. Nice felt so bad for Ron fail for example EXAC- basement who unfortunately wasn't voted into the hall of fame until he left us and I just felt cheated so that you know I'm sure wherever ever speech. Ted Simmons is GonNa give in Cooperstown at the end of June is going to be fantastic in terms of the the cardinals hall of fame and Ted was already a member of that. I'm really really curious about your thoughts because well there's there's a bunch of things that come to mind that that now that Ted is in the hall of fame but I I started thinking Keith Hernandez is it being a major league hall of Famer and I think it's going to happen. He's got to be in the cardinals hall of fame at some point. But where do you stand on Keith on both of those the cardinals hall of fame and a and major leagues all Major League Baseball Fame. Yes I was just talking to somebody about that date because Keith Hernandez is one of those guys. Who hasn't yet made the veterans ballots? Now you know they'll be a great opportunity next time because Marvin Miller and Simmons won't be on it but but among the you know the Veterans Committee mid-east hasn't even got onto the list for consideration. So it's going to be some time for. Tornadoes may cooperstown to Carnegie Hall of fame. And again you know. I'm I'm probably older other than the average fan so I remember Hernandez Ted Simmons playing very well. And you know they're I. I have never seen in my lifetime. A Better Defensive First Baseman than Keith Intern and is and the bat. The numbers speak for themselves. Now you know of course. He got traded under the best circumstances to the New York mets and some younger people who who. Maybe didn't start to follow baseball until the mid eighties saw him. As a you know the leader of the the pond scum right the team. The cardinals was biggest rival. But you you look at those ten years at Keith Hernandez deliver the Saint Louis Cardinals. And you know you'd find a very hard time picking the nothing against the other candidates but you know I really I really hope voting in in in twenty twenty I I do too and I. I've asked Keith. I sit there. You a met or a cardinal and then he always says let me look around and he says I'm really cardinal. I'm a cardinal at heart. He grew up a cardinal. He met Stan the man when he was a young kid. Growing up in the San Francisco area and his dad introduced deuce to stand from playing pro ball and he considers himself having learned the game and the cardinal system and like you. I'm a little bit older. I can't believe I'm saying saying that but I am a little bit older remember watching Keith. Hernandez he was unbelievable defensive first baseman. And I'm in agreement with you. In my opinion I've I've said this on the air. He is the greatest defensive first baseman. I've ever seen and it's not even close. How good he is? And that's what fans if there are any phase out here. You're listening you know. Maybe the wintertime's a good time to pick up a good book while there's not baseball on every night to watch on TV There's came out about a year ago year and a half ago called. I'm Keith Hernandez in his autobiography. And you know he you know he includes the rough edges to because he was a wild guy when he was young. Like some of us an a now you. Of course Dan no not at all but you know he tells the story and it's basically history growing up in history becoming a cardinal. Yeah you know the most interesting but the you you know the bounty. The story is his time as a cardinal that made him a baseball player in a man. And if you weren't impressed with Keith Hernandez core after you read that book. There's no way you couldn't be absolutely I couldn't agree more. Brian Walton is our guest. The Cardinal Nation Dot Com winter meetings going on right now what happens from the Minor League perspective. There's a lot of business that people don't understand With the winter meetings because they're looking at Stephen Strasburg signing or what's the latest with player X Y and Z on the major Agia League level but man there is a ton of minor league business that happens at the winter meetings. It's really at the ground. The ground floor level. If you look at that you know the people milling around the lobbies of the of the hotels where these meetings are being held. And this time there if Elton Bayfront that there are many any job seekers young people who are have their resumes Clugston. They're left handed the right and ready to shake hands with. He can meet as they're trying to find jobs in the game and of course we're a lot of people got started was in the minor leagues you know getting a job You know with a with a minor league affiliate working your way up to eventually giving me truly job this year. Of course there's a little bit different flavor because there's sort of two camps of the of the one hundred sixty minor league teams there's the teams that Have Future and then there's the list of forty two franchises that have been targeted for virtual extinction. And so you know those those though the minor league teams are meeting. They're trying to make sure that they keep it united front even though you know roughly a quarter of the minor leagues are are under serious threat to AETNA longer exist in their kirk for. So you know this is a big deal. Yeah this is a huge. I've heard from so many people and I. I did a speaking engagement in Springfield Missouri. The other night with of course the double A. Team being based there was for the university. But you know there. There is a I I always say it's a fabric of the community that team and springfields Greenfield's not going anywhere but there's other teams might and I think it would be a shame to see those teams would not exist anymore. I bet you feel the same way I do and again again. You know I'm biased. I'M A minor league guy at heart but I mean you look at a facility like the Medical Field Ronald Park in State College Which is owned by Penn State University crispy and that you know the state is the state of Pennsylvania? Put fourteen million dollars in to making that that beautiful baseball park possible that shared by I can State University and the State College spikes and if that team goes away you know that home vestment is down the drain plus fans in Pennsylvania. have to decide to drive three. We hours to Pittsburgh or four hours to Philadelphia because Minor League baseball as we know it including an lawyers court where he makes a big deal about the home of the war. The League World Series then concluded williamsport on the list of teams to go as well. So you know fans I think Major League baseball is so focused on that the bottom line spreadsheet treat making money that they're losing sight of the importance of Minor League Baseball took develop new fans forty one million people went to minor league games last year. That's an important lifeline. Ice Line for for baseball as a whole business and I think it was. I think it was but feeling who said Hey. Baseball has a responsibility. It's not just. The business has responsibility to the people and I feel like the guys in charge now have lost sight of that. I agree with you wholeheartedly. AH lease what's coming out of the The the winter meetings concerning minor leagues may get the attention of the casual fan. Is that. There's the elimination of testing marijuana in in the minor leagues. What are your thoughts on that? And how do you think that that will will play out. Is is the season and seasons. Go forward it's important understand that for whatever reason baseball did not keep the details of their drug plans in sync between the majors and the minors. The Major League baseball players haven't been tested for marijuana for for years. And but for whatever reason they kept those stricter rules for the minor leaguers that were out of sync and it just didn't make any sense especially in today's world with you know the decriminalization of marijuana in you know now most states in the country to take a young man and say hey. You're oh you're GONNA have to sit out for fifty games because you used a recreational drug which the laws of our country are saying is okay to use so you know. It's great at their making this change. It's overdue unfortunately some players have been hurt now again. I'm not making excuses for the guys who got caught because they knew the rules and they decided to flop him but yeah you know it's a good thing overall but it's sort of like you know why did it take so long traffic ticket. Everything in line. I'm going to wrap it up with this Brian. You read between the the tea leaves a little bit and it looks like the cardinals are gonNA walk away from Marcello sooner that would be my guest and that means that they would explore or I'm sure whether it is reciting Marcel or another player outfielder. It's there but as it pertains to dealing Carlson at some point. We're going to see him. Barring Injury in two thousand twenty my question to you would be. Do you think we're going to see him at the beginning of the season does he break camp out of spring training.

"You name it. Brian Walton is hard at work. Good Morning Brian. How are you? I'm doing great and You know unfortunately the cardinals roster moves from Wolf. I didn't occurred early enough. Take business last night to Broadcasting Basketball Gamer. I'd you know I I gotta I gotTa keep you know. Keep the pipes going a little bit so I stay sharp art doing basketball and I enjoyed a lot of fun. Let's share short-covering cardinals and there was a big day yesterday. Line Ross commercials. Yeah we were. We were talking and alluding into this off the air last week. We said you know. Let's let's dive into the forty man roster let's dive into guys at her left off that roster and now we know some of those answers officially but you're pretty much on this from from day one. These are the moves that you thought would happen. Aren't they yes. Some years you know Dan. There's a lot of question. There's a lot of concern. There's guys that are kind of in you know in the middle on the border you know. Should they go off the roster should they not should these guys be protected and the cardinals of course like all teams doing do an assessment. Not only of the players and their readiness for the major leagues before they add him to the forty man but they also look at what they think. The odds are in another team. Might take them. If they're left unprotected and the way will fireworks even if a player's taken by another organization he has to stay in the major leagues for the entire next season And and if he's not then he can be returned with other organizations so there's a whole risk of center risk assessments. That occur in the background but the free players that the cardinals added to the forty man. We're we're the ones that were the logical additions to me and And then of course to make room they had to remove one player as well because after all the puts and takes or guys off the sixty exclude disabled this injured list. Excuse me and the free agents they had three openings. When Adam wainwright decide to come back that went down to two openings so now you've only got a two openings but you want to protect three guys so that means one spot had to be opened up and Dominick Leone was again the obvious choice to be? Let go to make all the numbers work. That doesn't surprise you. Does it with Dominick Leone McNeil. There was great hope when he was acquired from Toronto. As the you know the kingpin of the Randall Grischuk Trade aiden folks remember back there. I hear there was talk. Hey you know he might be able to compete for the closer's job in a in two thousand eighteen didn't work out that way. Obviously and you know a combination nation of injuries and ineffectiveness on just didn't progress to the point. Anybody was happy with and folks you know he was left off the postseason roster you know. He wasn't considered considered among the topic. relievers on the team at the end of the year and unlike John Gatt who was in that same situation you know against case it was over work and fatigue maybe folks thought about in case it was just you know the guy just hadn't progressed. And because of his Major League show this time the amount of time that he spent in the major league so far in his career he what's eligible for a major salary increase for twenty twenty in the city of a million and a half one point six million. We're SORTA estimates. So you know you know you got a guy who salary's going to triple and he hasn't been that good anyway and you need a roster spot. It seemed like an obvious obvious thing to let him go no surprise to see El-Arish Montero attitude added to that Forty man roster is it no Monteiro then you know strong prospects for the cardinals for several years now. He had a rough twenty nineteen because he we had a panic bone injury in his hand. It required surgery and so he season at Springfield was pretty much lost the cardinal sentence the following week and he showed improvement there. But you know he's not back to where he was in twenty eighteen when he was the mid West League most valuable player. But I think anybody who you talk about the cardinals system look at Montanaro uh-huh and say he's a top-five prospect and system and so he's the guy that needs to be protected in the spring the question would Montero will be you know if he ready for Memphis or will he go go to Springfield and of course when you talk about third base next thing he says okay well whereas Gordon because you probably don't want those two guys in the same roster optimally so you know going ready for Springfield I think the next move up. Those would be things that will want to watch the spring but the first point is that now but he's on the phone on the forty nine roster Montana will get his first official show invitation to Major League Spring Training Camp Jake Woodford. And he's a guy that was a thirty ninth overall. Pick in two thousand fifteen. He's now twenty three. He was third the a P. C. L. E. R. A.. And strikeouts I in opponent average at two twenty three. I thought he might get a call up. This year. Didn't happen but they are high on this young man and he's also been added to that forty man roster. That's what I got a four seamer that is in the low to mid nineties He's got he's got St. to seamer and You know here for him. It's control it's being able to throw strikes You know when he gets Hawkins zone he gets knocked around. And so but you know he's been a very global the picture I could you live the PC ellen innings pitched So you know. He's I don't think he's ever been on a disabled injured list in his whole career correct. He's a guy that's you know. Probably a back end rotation tation guy or maybe along the Lieber. But he's again a very valuable player in somebody. We're definitely going to see in Saint Louis and twenty twenty. They probably given the other the whole you you know. Number of other starters that guy numbers prostate Leones it. Sarah you know wouldn't be surprising to see what forget called buffet and using relief with first year. But that all depends on you know a bunch packers they also. The cardinals protected a twenty one year old. That shows a lot of promise and he had a two point eight one. Era I I. I'm going to butcher his last name. I'm sure say he's saying hot SEJAS. Yeah right hander. And he had twenty four starts between between Class A and Class A advanced Palm Beach. So tell us a little bit about this guy because this is somebody that we really haven't focused on our weekly visits visits say was part of the cardinals. International Class in Twenty fifteen so the year before they spent all the big money And brought in in Adults Garcia and those guys so he was a year before that so that's why he's would have been five dollars a year from Venezuela The cardinals when he was when he was first sign nine. He was small and he grew he originally listed like at five eight. Now he's like six feet six one so he's kind of small guy but the cardinal's you know like we talked about with with guys like With Monteiro and others. They got pressed in pushed ahead in the system. Pretty quickly say has had a really good year at Johnson City in twenty eighteen but in twenty nineteen twenty seventeen and twenty eighteen. You got pushed ahead of Peoria got knocked Ronald Bit. So this year we went back to Peoria did very very well then moved up to palm. Beach continued to pitch well to the plate. You know we named him her comeback clear of Comeback Pitcher of the year for the entire system. Because you know he really got back on on and you know now that he's going to be ready for double a probably you got a guy who's got a fastball. Ninety five could move it still like a lot of the guys working on a secondary pitches. But he's got a pretty Kirpal so you know the feeling was if they would've left excuse me if they would've left say Haas unprotected. Chances are another organization. I probably would've Snapping maybe maybe a second tier team type of that unlike that could have put him on the twenty six man roster and and You know a lot of wealth in the major leagues in Cardiff might not have got him back. Brian there's a couple of guys that are rule five eligible and we're not protected had one being outfielder connor cable and second baseman. Max Schreck who was part of the Stephen Piscotty deal DC one of those guys being picked up by a major league team and if so obviously they gotta stay on a major league roster. DC that happening. Interestingly enough On kinda capable I was part of the misinformation or I was wrong about car. Kind of people not eligible. They should because it turns out. He was selected as a high schooler in twenty sixteen annoyed rule. Five draft goes. It's the age of the player when he's taken when they qualify so so this year it was player drafted College players in Twenty fifteen in highschool drafted players in two thousand sixteen so Capable still have another here And whose when you mentioned Oh Max Rock Oh yeah metric metric had a had another injury plagued year. You Know He. He was known for hit tool before he joined the cardinals when he was in the Oakland System. But even before that with with the nationals. And you know he's just hadn't hadn't hit well. He hasn't hit up to his capability. And that's really his carrying tool now. If you look. He really had a good final months of the of the season. BUBBA THE TIRE MEMPHIS lineup. Really just you know punishable the final month. So the questionnaires you know. What is the future mack truck or the positive you picked up third base? You've been a second base only guy but you know he obviously got passed up by Tommy Edmund in cardinals pecking order. We still have Nuno Sosa. Who some you know as a shortstop and his a a plus defender so there's not really a place for mack truck on the forty man roster faster and probably he's not gonna get taken again and rule side he was eligible last year to and You know they passed over although is up here was better in twenty nineteen. It's still wasn't to the point before where he was hitting three hundred every year. Let's talk to what a forty man roster means for the player. What what does that mean for the player in terms terms of new conditions? What drug testing or the money that they could make even if they're in the minor leagues that kind of thing? Well the big thing for players forty minute after an invitation to a major league camp so they get major league per diem for spring training. They also get a significant salary increase about the the levels that they had a minor leager because the the once they're on the forty man roster now they're covered by the Cooperative bargaining agreement between the major league players and the and the And and and the Game Major League Baseball Baseball so you know they they get more money obviously the most important thing though. Is that being on the forty man roster means that whenever there's an opening they could be called up at any time to Saint Louis and you know in the case of all these guys. Obviously they haven't yet made their basically if you and that's what you know all these guys are fighting for you know getting a chance to reach saint..

We'll talk about about the Arizona Fall League Dylan Carlson not going but couple of new faces that will be going we'll also talk about. What was the oldest living. A member of the cardinals. Hall of fame just passed away. Brian's got a piece up on that and a talk about some of the guys that could be impactful in the cardinal outfield four next year so so those are just some of the topics we'll get into with Brian Walden if he did not hear it with John Mosaic Lock on Monday one of the questions about a young player tired now making an impact on the big league club Hennessy's Cabrera and how excited they are with him and where his future lies when we traded for him we we are excited about his arm. We knew it was dynamic but there were still some things that he had to do to to be consistent at the major league level thought I think everybody's starting to see why we're so excited about him when we acquired him in the trade and it's easy to envision him being a part of our club whether it's if we had to postseason is an or definitely impactful next year so definitely excited about what you're seeing out of. I I know you'd never like to pay a guy one way or another or put yourself in a corner winter. I will ask the question now. Do you look at it more as a reliever or as a starter moving forward well I would. I would definitely think we'd bring him in as a starter for spring training next year because he's already been stretch out he's shown he can do that and then if there's no spots for him and he could easily go into the voltaire sure. Justin Williams was the other part of that deal and he came on late Mo-. I I was curious. Have you thought about bringing him up because he's a left handed bat. Now you do have a Lotta outfielders but the idea of a left handed bat and he had really picked it up at the end. was there any thought to bring him up at the tail end of the season. Yes there was a lot lot of discussion about him. And I think really it just came down to a numbers game here at the Big Leagues in terms of opportunity but you know it was great because as you know the the year was definitely a lost year for him but to have him finish. The way he did was very important. "We have wednesdays with walden. We'll dive into the minor leagues with the call up some that were made others that were not made. Johnson city has advanced in postseason play. We'll get into that. Also it's been a down year for what's happening with the winds in the losses in the minor leagues but you look at development. That's the main thing they'll name their players of the month of the cardinal nation dot com tom and that's on the website with brian walton and we do that every wednesday so you can hear that we also have coming up gould of the saint louis post dispatch. It's the day after her. Jack flaherty man was good last night. Jack flaherty career high eight innings and flaherty was as good as he's ever been and that's simply really put awesome. He was terrific again last night. One point you thought well is this. The ninety might get a no hitter crossed my mind maybe across years. We'll talk about tehrik. Gould we'll talk about yada. You're molina. He was named the national league player of the week and we'll also get into dexter. Fowler made a great catch last night in the ninth and really <hes> catch that it's not game saving but yet it's the kind of catch that if you're going to be a winning ball club you have to have cardinals are eighteen games games above five hundred. They pushed carlos martinez fourth consecutive day and we'll get into that decision as well. This is brought to you in brilliant clarity by lordos has diamonds visit lordos diamonds dot com men's or women's jewelry that special occasion think laura's diamonds lordos diamonds dot com also also looking for a spot to host your fantasy football draft look no further than westport social located in westport plaza jumbo t._b.'s ice cold beer. It's the day after jack flaherty man was he good derek last night or what he was <hes> he was better than good. Dan and i think he had the situation where we were all kind searching for kids to this guy. I know that <hes> what shield listed on terrific impressive in commend deller i think he dropped stellar on us in fact i'm sure he did there was a superb mentioned was an incredible mentioned by one of his teammates. You may <hes> bruce bocce called him strong and said over and over again that he just shut got them down. Which of course he's done now twice. <hes> you know i guess they they won the one game but still had no chance they're going for a while in san francisco i think i think we're seeing the arrival and i wrote this in the paper at stltoday.com if i'm allowed to give a plug i think you know i think august was about him asserting himself as the next ace of the cardinals and i think september is started with him saying i'm gonna be in a league pitcher in this league. What was it about last night that made him so good lots and lots of strike <hes>. I thought it was really interesting how he he has found a way to manipulate that slider so that it's either you know got a strong bite. It's almost like a cobra breath slider. If you will <hes> on and then he has kinda like the python flatter one. That's a little slower. <hes> you know he's got the two different concedes to that one slider. That has the shark bite to it. I mean is it falls out of a truck door. It's got somewhat of i dunno curve aspect aspect but it's too hard to be out so i think he's just found different r._p._m. Operate at different better way to put that different years to throw his breaking ball. Oh that and it's thrown the hitters off. I mean he was able to throw eighty four strikes and the giants didn't know what to do with them and then what he was getting them to chase he's outside the strike zone he was telling them in the strike zone dan and overpowering them and it was soft contact to i mean i think at one point there was only a three balls that were hit out of the infield so soft contact. If that's what you want to see boy you've got that last night absolutely overpowering outsmarting ardi all of it when you think of you know guys at needed to step up and we talked about this yesterday i to me i said to tim before he hit it not on the air. I wish i would have said it on the air. I motioned to tim and i said oh zunes gonna hit a home run and and you can just see the at bat was building thing from what he did in the previous two at bats you kind of see it was starting to put it together yeah he. He dunga ball pretty good. He authored longoria to break break that overnight teen so one for twenty then you start seeing them. Get the timing right you know with him. After the game he said over the last week week and a half is timing coming has been off <hes> he said that happens when you face a few pitchers that throw below the velocity that you're used to right that that you know that aren't the the high octane ventures and they kind of toy with you a little bit and maybe he got a little bit thrown off. He was there really early on <hes> <hes> to the afternoon i with all the yon- on an early b._p. Working through some things clearly searching for that what he was talking about the time timing of swing <hes> i you know i mean when he's he's got that you know really hard. <hes> a violent swing <hes> somewhat. Maybe a distinct cousin to what matt holliday gary sheffield at <hes>. He's that kind of right handed hitter. They probably hit for higher average or they definitely have for higher average then zuniga uh-huh making make that kinda hard content more consistently but <hes> you know you used to like and you know this better than i so i run this by didn't use to hear that counseling called like a buggy whip swing. Oh yeah for sure yeah so zuniga has that <hes> that buggy whip swing and it can go a long way when he you can actually it can be really aren't on a third baseman lincoln act and we saw both of those things. What did you think of <hes>. Mike pushing carlos martinez first time in his career to go four straight very days very interesting. <hes> you know especially because you know outta four games like that. You think oh well. He's got four you know decisions or force as that's right <hes> but it's only the second save and of course you have to win in the walk off so you know i you know i'm one of them wasn't even a save opportunity for him. I think it is interesting. I i think you know i don't know what it says about the urgency that shelters putting on it i i don't wanna read into it. Ah the trust of other pitcher you know but it it could imply that i i just don't get that sense. A definitely has to do with martinez. Gina's is <hes> efficiency and definitely has something to do with mike maddux view of the readiness of a guy. <hes> you know you think about it. It was day game day game day game and the night game and so they doubt you know we tend to think of like you use a good example. They're like okay first time in his career these four consecutive days right but the way that they sometimes think about it is almost hours right because monday was a day game. Amen tuesday was a night game they shield even said that he had a few extra hours of rest and that helped with his recovery a little bit better so oh i don't know <hes> if it'll have any repercussions the two that stand out as far as what it could be is one obviously the aware that that could put how how does he recover. It certainly makes him unavailable. For at least i wouldn't be shocked if he's unavailable until the weekend it's bergh <hes> <hes> and then the other part is like what does it say about the trust of the rest of both and this has been so good that i don't really read much into it. I'm also also get the sense that you know martinez available today or tomorrow and they knew it was going to be one or the other then we walk a. I'm sorry let me afraid that day and not wednesday. Sorry i get the days mixed up but with walk going on short rest on wednesday. That's what i was trying. They get to with walker going on shore today as we we kinda pre game you know he wants to make sure that the full complement of the bullpen available now yeah you gotta well rested group because martinez did that fourth day in a row. Let me ask you disc. I get my days mixed up to get it sorry but so when you watch fowler make that catch in the ninth. I'm not sure he i'm not sure he makes that last year the year before and the guy is hitting over the last month which coincides when he's been moved to the leadoff spot his on base percentage is above four hundred hitting above three hundred. This finally is the player they envisioned. Why are we seeing this guy takeoff because he's having fun.

It is three hundred sixty five days a year and that includes christmas thanksgiving new year's you can find something on the saint louis cardinals minor leagues or the major leagues and that's at the cardinal nation dot com brian good morning to you learning well. Let's talk a little bit about this weekend. We've got the the hall of fame coming up and as i mentioned you don't write jest about the minor leagues but you also take a hard look at what's happening with the big league club and many of the issues around baseball so i want to jump into the hall of fame which is so exciting. I love it. I think it's a great day in a celebration of cardinals baseball. Tell me what you thought of more cooper jason eighteen isringhausen and scott rolling going into the cardinals hall of fame this weekend that selects the the veteran player that went in which was more cooper and then we also set the ballot of roughly eight players get voted on by the fans for the modern era players s where scott rolling jason isringhausen. We're voted in this year. Obviously both very deserving or cooper. A lot of folks don't know more cooper unless they're historians but a very important pitcher for the cardinals in the forties when they <hes> one three ships and you know very serving dish famous well how about izzy and enrolling when you think yeah those two guys i think he will get in at some point but it is a great debate to think about those three well you know this is really a time to i thought keeping his was deserving has been deserving but you know he came at stigma of having also played with the mets and been a part of a championship team there as well well so there are some fans who hold that against him as well as the circumstances by which he last count but if you look at the history cardinals in terms of productivity from first basement lynch and his ability defensively he's one of the greatest first baseman in team history and and hopefully okay. I want to ask you to about lane. Thomas as we switch gears lane tom tom is i know you saw upfront and close awful lot. Gimme the background on this young man because i think he's going to be a player before it's all said and done really got a bonus would link thomas in one of the years where they were under penalty for international science because of the houston hacking incident could only spend three hundred doc thirty three hundred thousand dollars per player so they hid money allocation that they couldn't use they traded to toronto who wanted to spend some more money on a on an international player and got got lane thomasson return. He had a good history with toronto. Stubby clapp knew him from when he was in the organization but thomas was injured a lot early in the minor leaks and frankly right after he got to the cardinals in palm beach. He got injured only played nine games. Its first year had a breakout. Season in two thousand eighteen actually led the system in home. Runs aunts had one more than <hes>. Here's the bear who am excuse me taylor. O.'neil who spent part of the saint louis cometh is very very strong. All all around player has great skill. He's he can hit. He has gained power he can <hes> can field. Well is that of roughly a fifty on the twenty two eighty scale on the field. <hes> also has a very good throwing arm of course mclean comment and he of course he can play all over her. Three defensive. Positions in the outfield is very good center fielder. The question is willing. Thomas be a starting outfielder in the majors or will he be a reserve and unfortunately elite this time he hasn't under the best of the question when he has been given the opportunity produced done well but it's been still such a small sample the inclusion yet about what his future role will be with saint louis when you think of <hes> harrison baiter he's now back with the club arose arena going back down to did the minor leagues. He rejoined saint louis last night. I'm curious when you look at harrison did. What did you see that that gave him. You know some some caused for hope in the club at cause for hope is he was sent back down to the minors. What was he doing right. Harrison bit like coming up through the system. They left handed pitching <hes> and even lost that was saint louis he just sort of lost his mojo and when he went down to memphis <music> only hit right in pitching it left hit right in this very very well downtown on the in the inmate i think he was a nine game hitting streaks getting four hundred over his last <hes> last week and a half with memphis. He's seeing the ball hitting the ball very well. Of course we know is defensive portfolio so the question question will be you know in this crowded outfield mix is how many how long will harrison get to play and prove that his dad is because as you you will know probably everyone knows tyler kneels be hatch and you know he was starting in less fuel before zanger. <hes> jose martinez is also so not too far away so land rosters expanded september you could ever rose arena back so you know there's all these guys are gonna competing be competing for pass and tinley. Speaking osuna in extra sour have been in the lineup most days meaning. <hes> you know there's one spot for all these guys to compete for daniel. Leone is pitched. I wells since he went back to the minor leagues and it looks like he's been able to for the most part control the strike zone which has been his big issue. That's absolutely right. I mean we've all seen scene when daniel has on he's almost unhittable but that ball has to be moving but still registering within the scribes and just to give you a perspective in last research eighteen innings <hes> no runs allowed for daniel only five blocks twenty eight strikeouts twenty eight strikeouts in eighteen inning with math i so i mean the results are phenomenal. Banners are hitting to twelve against them so we're gonna see daniel certainly within the you know in ten days so in memphis seasons and kill no likely to get back into the least along relief mix is not get a spot spot her two down the road. How 'bout <hes> also a guy that i just wanna keep tabs on. He might be added to the forty man at some point and that's jake woodford. I was been faring get ahead a rough month <hes> his last out he was better which was good to see because <hes> his last three innings he said the right around five the walks are up. The scouts are still there but the walks out amp but he's been hit around pretty well as well so this is kind of a crucial time for woodford not because memphis is necessarily surly going anywhere because they're not but you know he's not on the forty man roster as you said and this is a chance where he could show that he might be deserving to come to saint louis you know his numbers are standing out well enough that that is certainly should happen and then finally in terms of and i know you wrote about about this recently in the last seven ten days or so who else do you think outside of daniel pyne staley own and some of the other guys we already mentioned that could get called up anybody else. Catch your attention that might get called up when september ends well. Two.

"Download post mates and save with code focus. I wonder if post mates could deliver me, some more power in labor because that's really what I need right now. Like I could they deliver me pita Lonzo and a trade for Joey Votto in Madison Bumgarner, the guy who has to laugh. He's like, what are you crazy? I'm not doing that. And, you know the. Other guy that has Hoskins like wanted to do it, then I think, someone got in his head and change his mind. So that's fine. I understood saying, you know, Madison Bumgarner don't wanna trade for him and Joey Votto, like I don't know what does he have six home runs now I doesn't just because recently six all the ball. I mean seriously if he has six home runs six home runs where he'd be if this was twenty ten. Yeah. We are out of control in this game. The twenty ten version of auto would have fifty. Sure what you mean. The twenty nineteen version of outta was playing twenty ten. Yes homers wouldn't Homer at all. My wrong. How many homers is finished with got six now? Oh g fifteen twelve twelve I mean like over twelve but not by much. I hey look, I lost before. And I've lost that league every year never won and labor and I'm not gonna this you're gonna finish second. But that's okay. It's fun. It's competitive like would you rather for the second every year or finish eighth twelfth you'd rather their second? I wanna win. But the question is over a ten year span second every season. Or I once I haven't done that I finished second actually five of eleven years. Okay. It's your span you can have one title you can and all last places. Second. I'd rather have one title but five seconds means you're better player in my opinion. That's the thing like you can win a league title by being lucky. Right. Especially in football, but you can't baseball and basketball in real life. I would rather like the Phillies they wanna know wait and then after eleven they finished last year. That was good. That's fine with me. Okay. I wanna title I got to go to parade. It was awesome. Yeah. Realized title titles, titles titles, like can't be Boston. Okay. Like, but if you like if you stink for a five year plan, but you wanna title, that's okay in fantasy. Is that what you want? Or do you want to compete every year? I kind of think I might be wrong like, look, I'm not twenty five anymore title, but it doesn't mean as much to me now I'd I'd rather finish second every year, then then win once and finished last every other year I think, I think it makes you look better, too. Well, it depends on if you go, you're bringing up the context question, if second is paying out, I don't care about that anymore. I i'm. I'm nobody's winning money. Right. That's the thing not moving to a guy. I dislike is a good guy. I like him you like him to. He's going to win. That's okay. With me Gardner beat me that year. That's okay. I leaving you a DVR van riper is great. Oh, our friends. One of our industry. Great guy. Good guy. But, but look, is it through to win? Of course. Not. I can still figure out a way but he's got like fifteen points can gain. I, I need power. Nobody's trading at away. We're giving the kudos to the leaders, and that's all give kudos Brian Walton's leading towers, my league. Scott's, when a who I don't know that, well, but I remember during the auction thinking he's having a great auction. I wanted to have a bounce team. I spend big money on one hitter.
