"Well, David, the braves are basking in the glow of this World Series championship and the parade is on Friday in Atlanta. But there are some big decisions ahead for the organization, most notably free agent for a spaceman Freddie Freeman. And Joe buck reminded us of that a bunch of times during the World Series broadcast. Pitch. Flies into left center field well hit back at the wall. It is gone a home run for Freddie Freeman in what might be his last at bat for the Atlanta Braves. He's just made it 7 to nothing. So where do things stand right now with Freeman? Well, I wish we all knew it was anybody new exactly where negotiations are at this point that they don't. The brazier of the tightest lift organization and bro sports problem was certainly a baseball. If you go back and thoughtless has been able to pull off trades and signings that literally were never leaked before they were announced by the team. And that's almost unheard of in this day of social media, but that's just way operates and his circle of people around him know that and they don't let anything get out. But Freddie Freeman has made it a point all along. He's been surprised that nothing has been done yet, no contract. We all thought it would get done last year in the off season. It's not then certainly in spring training. And if not spring training, then certainly, at the all star break, 'cause the game was supposed to be in Atlanta without maybe they'll make a big splash and announce it then. Maybe now at the parade. Well, who knows? But now he's a free agent, officially, you know, they'll have a 5 day window exclusive negotiating window with him, but you know, if I'm Freddie Freeman and I'm his age at, even though he's going to stay here. He wants to stay here. He's reiterated at several times, including after game 6 after the clinch. She said, you know what my heart is? My law is here. He wants to stay here and be like Chipper Jones plays his whole career here. And the braves and anopolis have said, repeatedly, they want to keep Freddie here. I've always been certain they will eventually get it signed. But if that game 6 was this last game, then he had a home run in his last at bat as a brave. But again, I do not think that I never have thought that they would let him go 'cause I think it would be the stupidest PR move they could possibly make. While all the goodwill. And it has been a wealth of it. A ton of it by winning the World Series. They would undermine a lot of it by not resigning Freddie Freeman. I did see that the braves just got 234 million in revenue in the third quarter and people are saying, give it a freedom and just put it right in his Venmo account. Yeah, exactly. Everybody knows, because they're the only team that's publicly owned. So they have to disclose, you know, Liberty Media has to disclose. It's financial. So everybody knows exactly how much it has been made and how much it's over last year. Revenues were down like 200 million in the pandemic year and they lost about a 100 million in profits. So those are up now, substantially to above pre-pandemic numbers. So there really is no excuse now to not sign Freddie Freeman. Well, finally, bringing this back to where it all started to manager Brian snicker. As we said earlier, he's 66 years old. He's been at this for four and a half decades. And now he's got the World Series title. How long do you think Snickers in it for? Well, it's not an extension at last year's spring training. So I think he's here through at least next season. And I would think depending on how next year goes and as long as his health holds up, I could see him doing another couple of years. Now that his kids are grown, he's got her lips here with the grandkids. His son and all. And he sees them all the time. They're fortunate. They get to spend a lot of time with their grandfather to come to games and everything, you know and make the players. You know, as long as he's having fun and their wedding, he might say, you know what, if I could make history and win two World Series here, because nobody did. Bobby's the only one that ever wanna a World Series title in Atlanta. And no manager in the franchise's 150 years or whatever one, too. So maybe he wants to win another one and kind of set himself up as a whole different level than people have seen it before. But I don't see him stepping down anytime soon. You know, the Dodgers got lucky also because that was not really a textbook run down 100%. Listen. If you do not have a dog in this fight, and you're neutral. You're laughing. Because that was comical. That was some of the worst baserunning ever at the worst possible time. I mean, that's a little league bleep right there. But if your Braves fan you're tripping hard and immediately thinking, man that's going to come back, that's going to come back and bite us in the ass. That was one of the biggest blown opportunities ever. If you're a Dodger fan, you're thinking that was one of the best moments in years. The great escape that allows us to stay in the fight because make no mistake. Atlanta was in position to end that fight right there. They had both hands around the Dodgers throats. All they had to do is squeeze. Instead, they puke all over themselves. Swanson leaves from third on contact. You know, it's not the biggest crime ever. That's not the biggest sin of all time. But if you're going to go, you'd better get home. And if you're Austin Reilly and you're going to leave from second man, you better get a third. "Just because of the The stress that you don't want to put on a pitching staff and especially as we're getting these guys You know, acclamation, the real games and things like that. So it's probably that putting a guy seconds it's going to be a good thing. One of the new things is the designated hitter. And, frankly, if there is no designated hitter suspicious isn't in the opening day lineup on Friday, But what do you think about having to employ a D? H. Well, I mean, I think that's a great call to these pictures. We did. You know our pictures on March 14th when this thing was canceled the first time hadn't even had enough fat yet. I mean, can we take that really slow? There's no way we'd had tied to get those guys in shape to swing. And so I I applaud Major League baseball for going to the D H. It might be something to I think that's common. I mean, I love the National League game. But I really do. I think that d h is come in, and probably sooner than later. I agree. I agree. I think after the next labor negotiation, but I've made it plain on this on this show that I'm not a fan, but I know I'm outnumbered two grams for six pitches on Friday. We're 99 or 100 miles an hour and of him, you said When you face the best pitcher on the planet, the tartar Church offense? Yeah, no, A mean, said. There's two things you know you hate to facing. But I tell people man, it's really a challenge, and I love watching the guy work, man. He's just he is remarkable. I said he was playing catch at 99. Hey, I just respect him so much in the way he goes about it and nothing rattles team and you know he's the guys out there. You know, he's controlling the running game. He's doing all the you know what if he was the bat? You worry about him offensively. I mean, just the all round player. I could say. I think like we never miss it Neither. I mean, every time we got there we go. You know, he's remarkable and like I say, it's the best on the planet. We're so happy to have Atlanta Braves manager Brian Snitker on Ed Randall's talking baseball. You're carrying 16 pitchers the Met to carry and 14 on their 30. What's your philosophy? Brian? On how far you're starting pitchers? They're going. Well, we're gonna We're gonna watch him. You know, we're gonna look at stressful innings. You know, we figured on opening day if these guys go six innings that's a plus B. I don't care if it's July 23rd or fourth or April 1st. I mean, when you come out of spring, you know, I have regular spring training of six weeks. A guy can go five or six innings, and I'm thinking that's that's you know, it's really good because they haven't had the up down. They haven't had a stress. Um, you know, Max probably could've went out for the next day. He had pitches, but you know, it was a kind of a stressful fifth and these are young guys that have careers and they're going to pitch. A longer than this 60 game season. So you know we're gonna be we're gonna watch as we always do. At the end, of course, is the health of the player. I'm never going to do anything to put a player in harm's way, so to speak, and So you know, we'll just we'll watch the monitor and, you know, see how the innings ago and things like that, Um But you know, and that's kind of the you know we're going to be careful with relievers in bars back to back and them and things like that. So, um, you know, we want to get him out there on the mound a few times before we start really pushing the envelope. Things that we could not have imagined. Before. Adam Duvall hit 42 home runs last year between Triple A in the major leagues and hits a home run for you yesterday and that home run struck a cutout of Jeff McNeil's dog. Willow. Did you know? Did you hear about that? Yeah, there were three dogs to Conforto dogs and and O'Neill's dog and an email willow. Yeah, but apparently they didn't even take him to the vet. He's fine is if you didn't already have your hands full in the division with Washington, the Mets and the Phillies. Now you have to hit the Yankees in Tampa Bay in the will call it the Eastern Conference. My goodness, Brian No, it's it's just day in and day out, man. It's like, uh, you know, the only good thing about all that is our travels going to be probably better than 90 more. Never leaving the Eastern, You know, the tide's up, so right. But you know it, then it's gonna be challenging. This is a rough rough division here. Now when you're playing the East and, um you know, it's like almost like a sigh. Young award winner every night that you're facing and You know, it's going to be a child were pretty good, too. So tell, say. So what will be fine? Three batter rule you bring in a J mentor to face Conforto left on left. He singles but had to stay into face Rosario the right and hit her and then Nemo left and left handed her and pitch. Great. Uh, what do you make of the three? What do you make of the three batter rule? Because Davey Martinez said a couple of weeks ago. He hasn't Talk to anybody that likes it. Francona doesn't like it in Cleveland. What do you think? I don't like it either, But it's something we're gonna have to, you know, we have to navigate around Um, you know, I just I think you take away a lot. I mean, I just I'm not fan, you know, and I We've used it now for probably, you know, for three games we had the last game we played spring training was the start of it. So we've had to regular season games and I don't know. I just I think it takes away from the game a little bit. I agree with you, Your top two catchers Travis d'Arnaud Tyler Flowers He left behind with Code 19 like symptoms, though neither, fortunately has tested positive in your In your years around the game almost 1/2 century. You've never lost players, especially to catchers to something like this. It's always on the field. Now it's probably in another world. You know, In another time, they would have brought him with us and they have been playing. You know, I don't think I think they're there. They're not feeling great. Like you say they both tested negative. So that's good. They probably just have a cold. You know, they got a little Something going on that they were, you know, they probably went to sauna or whatever sweated out been fine, but because of the conditions that we're in, right now, you got a pair on the side of caution and sure. Fortunately, we you know we had we got two young captures that could step stepped in and done a really, really good job..

Always good to talk to you and you to 97 wins last year, And in a season of uncertainty, there's one thing we can be certain about Brian, You're not gonna win 97 this year. Yeah, I know. It's a little different, a little different. A cz. We talked, and but we're all I think really Just glad to get this thing off the ground and playing ball again. Before we talk baseball. You got to talk about your your living accommodations and and what it's like for you being in a New York hotel. What? What's it like jealous? Hilleary. Actually, I was down. Went down the lobby today and, you know, it's usually like just crowded and there's nobody there. There's a couple of bellmen and one lady working the desk and I was talking to visiting with them and You know, went out. Got a little coffee. We're We're really not supposed to be leaving the hotel a lot, but because it was later game they bring, you know they bring their you're you're Breakfast brunch. Whatever it is, put it outside your door. That's how we eat our meals. Um What kind of a good way to get a cup of coffee went out and just went up the block, and it was really weird. Walking the street for That block. Okay. So you can go. You could go bowling on Madison Avenue. You could go bowling in times Square. You can go bowling on Fifth Avenue and not hit anything. No, no, That's the thing. You look out your window here and just, you know, even on Friday morning, I mean, I know what you know. Usually you see a yellow on The cab's in the Duncan and all that. It's really not a limited foot traffic and limited cars and It's different. It's different. It's good, you know, treat that's unbelievable here at the hotel and you know, everything is hate. And I just don't know it just for the next 30 days that you have in the hotel, you know, on the road. Just be a little different, but it's free to roam like you normally would. Right, afterthe only three hits and 15 strikeouts in the opener as the great philosopher L. Peter Barrow. One said. It ain't over till it's over. And it wasn't that the case yesterday. Like you know, you strike a little apron. You know, just going down in another good ballgame. I mean, you know, we were down 2 to 1, and you know a well played game again. You know, that's a really good pitch in and you know, we're just start. Guys never quit. OK, that's been their mantra for the last three years. I mean, it's never out of the game and that I used to tell people in the land. It's like you don't want to leave. Before the seventh inning. We're like an end game. Nothing happens till the you know the final quarter for the final third of the game. So you had more comeback wins. I think since 2016 than any club in baseball Yeah, So I mean, it's like I say the fight guys Unbelievable. They love to compete, and you know they're 15 full of baseball rats. They enjoy going out doing all the little things that you know they join each other. It's it's It's really a fun group. Um, I want to mention this An hour ago. I had Dr Mark Hamilton on the show. He wasn't Dr Mark Hamilton when he was playing for you in Gwinnett and Triple Triple A. You changed his life by releasing him. Oh, hammer. Yeah, I'm proud of him. I mean, that's often what he's doing and what you know, with his life and you know, really happy boy. You know, it is a great good story. Good for him, and you know, it was kind of love following the former players, man, It's It's good. I bet And this morning. You love that new rules starting each extra inning with a runner on second base, don't you? Well, they they asked me about after the game, but I was like, Oh, I guess I gotta like it now. It's different. I don't know. You know, Donna Walt. I had a lot of conversations over the last three weeks of how we handle that Where we You know, I guess or it's going to be where we are in the lineup. I given talk to some of the guys in the minor leagues that have experienced this before, And it almost seems like you know what teams did. I mean more about, you know, like when you put that one guy on its multiple runs being scored, you know, they ended up with the winning run at the plate and So it's you know, hopefully it's It's something that I gotta say we'll come out on top. I don't know. I mean, it might be tough, but, you know, you know what I mean. There's not a lot of things that were going to go through. This summer that you know it might be things for that, you know, changes in the game and make it better. Well, e. I think on at first blush, we would look at this in a normal season, Brian and go what you want to do what? Ah, but this year Ah, given the outside forces baseball becomes a laboratory for trying trying out new things. Yeah, no, I mean, you know it might be and that you know, we have three weeks of spring training, and I think it's probably a good rule to try and get the game's over. Just because of the The stress that you don't want to put on a pitching staff and especially as we're getting these guys You know, acclamation, the real.

"The air on a Saturday afternoon because you've got something to cheer for again. We've got Atlanta United playing tonight, the first match in four months they take on the New York Red Bulls and over a truce park. The Atlanta Braves have been getting ready to restart their season and just less than two weeks now, when they will begin at the New York Mets, and I had a chance to go up there yesterday. Observe what Summer camp is what they're calling. It is all about have been up there a couple of times, and I wanted to check with Brian Snitker and and see how he feels about his team as we inch closer now to one of the quickest training camps in one of the quickest seasons ever. Yeah, I feel good about it. I don't have any doubt that the pictures are going to be stretched out to where we anticipated they would be and I feel good about where we're at right now, after a week a little farther along than when I probably thought we would be when we started. It is kind of hard to believe that really only three weeks to get ready for a 60 game season. But after all the news we had about the Braves in the last seven days, with Freddie Freeman and three other players getting sick, Freddie having kind of a rough week, Nick Markakis has backed out. Felix Hernandez is backed out. Is this the right thing to do to try to play baseball? I think it's Yeah, I think it's the right thing to do to try to play baseball and hopefully they khun, get it in. I think we have to try these things will find out different leagues will have commissioners who Are able to take a little more heat than other heats other than other commissioners, But you're going to have people who this is a virus and you're going to have people who come down with the virus. And the question is how many players.
