"Left handed clip shot and scores and exactly right. Exactly what we thought the Bear Castle do immediately get the ball in the Chris boat, and he capitalizes right away. I know that Brian Gregory is thinking I've got a seven footer. Seven footer on seven footer. But does he realized that he can double team Christmas? Chris vote is dominating the low post. You know, 12 points. It gets scary, sometimes double team and because you start leaving shooters open and now you hidden daggers from three. Sometimes you rather take that to live with that 43 always the score. Here's a jump shot blocked by Julius and then he throws it away. Right to Murphy wide open three point shots for Brown, and his shot is nothing but nets, and that's just tough there. Keith Williams, not aware that Murphy's already back and would have been a four point swing here is turning to a three point shot and the bear cats turn it over again. Whether or not he's gonna be here for a second season or not. What are you talking about? First of all good morning to you, Jack, Aaron, Katie and Natalie and Gold bought a boat, man. He's gonna be here for a while. Then you hear that? I'm just reading this. Yeah, about a $2 million pleasure Craft and Sounds like he's gonna be here for a while. Those rumors are just rumors, Jack. When a team is losing, like the Bucks are right now they dropped three out of four and the lost too close games to two very good teams. The Rams And, of course, Kansas City, which I think is one of the best teams in the NFL. Not the best. I know that kind of loss, and Pittsburgh has no loss. But I was still rink Kansas City over Pittsburgh just because of what their quarterback and do with that multifaceted offense. The Bucks. The main problem with him right now, I don't think it's the offense. Yes, the offense is not Blowing the way you would want it to flow, But let's let's see what they can do over the last four games of the season. Now Minnesota comes in here winners of five of their last six. So that's gonna be a nice test for the Bucks defense, which I think is more of a concern that what's going on with the offense? The defense has given up almost 1000 yards and last two games that has to stop There's no weapons a bunch about that. That is not Ah, Playoff caliber defense is going to get your deep into the playoffs, so they got to get that fixed. I think it starts with the front seven. They need a more consistent pass rush running. You mentioned Minnesota coming up this weekend. How do you see the next four games playing out here? I think they want three out of four. I think they have the chance to win four out of four. I watched Atlanta closely yesterday against the Saints team and Atlanta is not bad. Rahim has them playing some pretty good football right now, but the bucks have a better team. The bus is just simply more talented than the Falcons are right now so they should be able to win those two games. I'll buy it those now those two games air and three weeks, which is tough to do, But the Saints just did it And I'm not saying the bucks are on the same level right now, because the defense is not playing like the sink. Stevens is, but A bunch of certainly capable of winning both of those games against Atlanta. Then they got happiness. Detroit so Yes, I think they could run the table, but I'm going to go with three out of four. Yeah. And as far as college football, the Florida Gators, they're having a big year and Florida State Seminoles are waiting for some big games. Yeah, there those two programs. We had it in the opposite direction there, Jack. Hey, congratulations to the Gators. They they're in the S E. C championship game against Mighty Alabama. We're gonna have to queen something's up, particularly on the defensive side of the ball. They get off the slow start, sometimes offensively with some of these weaker teams like a Tennessee like of Andy, like a Kentucky Hey, there. Good. This is the best water Gators team. They've had quite some time. So they're going to be in the NFC championship game in Atlanta for the first time since 2016. I like this team, Love the quarterback, I think Trask should win the Heisman. I know he's got some competition, but he's playing at extremely high level runny. Shut out. We should give to the USF women's basketball team. They be about number six Mississippi State over the weekend. Big win for them. It is a big win for them, and we helped to get the men's program turned around and rolling in the right direction to also a little bit of a slow start Cove. It has something to do with that. But I think Brian Gregory's fellows will get it together as well. The big win for the ladies of USF over the weekend. Well, it is good to know we're getting back into sports, and it's looking Maura and Maura like we might have a well as normal as it could possibly be Super Bowl coming up. I mean, Not nearly as many people in the stands but other than that things sort of normal. You have Super Bowl committee is getting prepared. So looks like this game is going to go down. You're right about the Number of fans in the stands, but I think they'll still be a number of people have just come to town to be a part of that atmosphere. Jack and there will be some gatherings and get together, so it's not altogether you know a downer. With the cold but protocols they'll figure out a way how to make it a lot of fun, And I just feel bad for the whole area that the fact that this is going on or we got a Super Bowl. Open. We could get another one sooner than later. But that's up to the NFL. Yeah, I think that you like this serious so we should get one in the not too distant future. "Our next question came out of the balloon. My name is dead Nielsen. And I live in Calgary my question. Today is some northern Europeans as well as dog like huskies. How blue light it? There's some benefit to having blue eyes living north for the answer. We go to Dr Brian Gregory Professor and Chair of the Department of Integrative Biology at the University of wealth so Dr Gregory is having Blue Eyes of beneficial traits in colder parts of the world. It's a very interesting question. I'm afraid it's a bit more complex than yes or no th th I I guess the question is will what causes blue is in the first place and It's it's not actually anything blue in the is it's not a blue pigment or other molecule that makes it blue it's actually absence of pigment specifically Melanin which which is the dark pigment. We normally think of in dark skin and dark hair so when you don't have Melanin in the of the I what you see is different wavelengths of light being scattered and reflected in different ways and that's basically the same reason that a clear sky appears blue so you take that Melanin out if you have a mutation that prevents the production of that pigment. Don't you have Basically Blue Eyes as a result. Okay well how did blue is a rise in human populations in the first place so in humans the mutation tation is actually in a gene on chromosome. Fifteen it's been identified and the result is you don't get production of that pigment in the eye so you end up with the blue. I affect. That probably arose within the last ten thousand years. Maybe less it seems to have occurred somewhere around the Black Sea in relatively small population of humans and then became more common within that population. Over the last few thousand years there is good genetic evidence comparing genomes across different humans that Jean's involved in pigmentation including in the I have been under natural selection pretty intensively over the last several thousand years so it's probably not just chance it probably did spread within those populations for some reason and then there's a bunch of the seas about why so one of them is is that reduced pigmentation allows more sunlight to get in. That's necessary for making vitamin D. And if you're living in low light conditions than letting winging more sunlight is probably a good thing for that purpose other possibilities are that it actually allows better vision under low light so there's not great evidence for that but speaking of somebody with Blue Eyes I can say that they're quite sensitive to highlight so it may translate to sensitivity in low light. It is well. There's some evidence that blue is lighter. Colored Eyes are associated with better capacity to deal with seasonal affective disorder so Kinds of emotional states that are affected by long periods of dark. That might be a possibility. But there's not really strong evidence for any any of those particular hypotheses one other possibility is simply that it was considered attractive So instead of evolving by sexual a selection related to survival it was sexual selection so in other words individuals found attractive intended to meet with individuals having blue eyes within that population and it became common for that reason. So it's just a preference okay. So those are the ideas of why it might have arisen in humans now. Dogs like huskies so in dogs It's a different story different. Genetic mutation in that case it's actually on their chromosome eighteen and it involves a small piece as of DNA that's been doubled in their genome. If you have that duplication a you have a blue eyes and one of the interesting differences because of the way that works in huskies. Huskies Blue Eyes is a dominant trait whereas in humans. It's a recessive trait. So you have to have two copies of the blue I version of the gene in humans. But if you have any one one copy of this mutation in Huskies than you will get blue eyes so it's important to bear in mind. That blue is is not ubiquitous in huskies. It's actually actually not one of the requirements for breeding standards. They are there. Huskies like humans have a variety of different colors. Blue is more common in huskies than in most other. Our dog breeds so the question is why in huskies again. There can be ideas about vision in low light or other her impacts however with dogs a really important thing to remember is that they've been under really intense artificial selection by humans mints. And if you look at most dog breeds yes. There are traits that we've favored because they're functional so they're good at running faster the good at hunting certain kinds of prey Others are just Lindsey Human Sia trait. They prefer it. They breed those individuals that have it becomes common for that reason and I suspect. That's probably what happened. HUSKIES it's a very striking trait and people selected for it. It's important to note that other northern dwelling mammals including other canines signs like wolves and foxes. Don't have blue eyes so it doesn't seem like it's a really calm and trade among mammals living in the north. It's really just didn't huskies. And not even all huskies. Dr Gregory. Thank you very much for your time. You're very welcome. Dr Ryan Gregory is a professor and chair of the Department of Integrative Biology at the University of Guelleh..

In fact, this this south Florida team eighteen made free throws five hundred seventy attempts the U of M with five hundred and twenty three. So one of my other keys is make free throws. They have not done that in the loss at temple in the loss. At Tulsa, they were a very Fokker free throw shooting team. You're gonna have opportunities today. You better. Cash in on those freebies. You should have opportunities day. You're correct about that. US app is last in the league in free-throw percentage. Oh, look what they hit on your sixty three percent on the free throw line. They get a ton of opportunities right there number one hundred league chances. But the big thing both teams turn over as well US app is number one and turnovers in the league, you'll never guess who's number two tiger. Yeah. So which team is going to protect that basketball that is important equation in this game. That was my final Kate was that you had to you had to really you can't turn it over seventeen times. Like you did at Tulsa if you do you're just not gonna win the game. You're not gonna win the game. David. I I think one other thing too. Can you rebound well enough against his team and not let him have second chance points. Starting lineup for this. Game is presented by the global the home for over sixty fully online grad in undergrad programs offered by the university of Memphis. We start with the bulls. Very good at home eleven into here at the England Senator three and one in conference fourteen and six what a turnaround for Brian Gregory's teams from last year three and fifteen in the league and ten and thirty to last place. They were picked nine this year. And they have certainly. Over accomplished what he? Masticate thought it's been a good turnaround for Brian Gregory. He's the guy that started at Dayton went to the NCAA wanted championship. There got the job at Georgia Tech that didn't work out. So well, but he's really building something here. Second year twenty four and twenty eight that's because last year was so bad, and he's already got two hundred seventy two wins and fifteen years thank about how his leaving Georgia Tech opened a lot of things up a chain of events that happened with a three schools, it it it a lot financially for Memphis. Josh passenger off the payroll it broadened tubby. And then, of course, the rest is history. In the meantime, Brian has rebuilt this team. No doubt about it. With only two guys that really play from last year. One of the keys here is look Quincy Rideau. He's a six one redshirt junior out of West Palm Beach, Florida, fourteen points, a game just a shy under he sixty three points shy of a thousand. So I learned from everybody, you know, he'd jet always had great assistance as coaches meetings were legendary the practices were so intense. But judge was so serious. You know, I I run my basketball camp today. Exactly the way Judd ran his basketball camps at Michigan state. He did bed chick every night on every kid. He had three roll calls a day. He did every roll-call. He never missed a minute while he was quoted as gyms, and if there's referees when running back and forth he'd stopped the game and lectured referees, he was he was the most. I I loved him. I mean, I love I love getting his calls and last three or four years of his life. I tried to call him once or twice a month. And I think he appreciated those calls and you had so many so many guys in his three. I we just played south Florida Saturday, and then me and Brian Gregory before the game. We were talking about Judd. Magic does for for somebody who got to see Magic Johnson at that stage in his life Mosey like. Parvez works in practice player. I've ever seen does he magic how to health class? They got over about one o'clock by just didn't start till three. Remember the old toss backs? You know, there's nets that you through to throw. You back match you with this pasta action set him up around the gym. You know, he'd had his dream practice jersey over on the side, and he would workout just an old gray t shirt, and he would by the time. Everybody's got to Jim for practice magic tissue. It'd be soaking went, but his favorite drill in my favorite drill. I got from judge was formed four except throat. Enjoyed would use cutthroats to teach certain parts of the game. It was posted entering cuts off post ball screens most green defense what whatever he was working on. But you would always give magic the wall cones, and he never lost very Kelsey was the ninth pick. I think by the Detroit Pistons Jay was in the first round pick by Dallas. But magic never lost a cutthroat game. He would make sure his team would win. I mean, he would get on his guys if they weren't playing hard enough. He he was the ultimate winner. He used to when he played the UCLA men's gym, though, he used to call the worst fouls ever. And it was like, well, it's magic side. Yeah. So. Part part of why he never lost you. You you mentioned Montana tech, you show up their team one five games, and you mentioned full. But like, listen, your dad was a coach you played your learning is under under one of the all-time. Great legends you show up there. What was what was your first head coaching experience like?.

"Nice estermann's so my sophomore year college several trust is sources told me that are basketball coach judd heathcote actually taught a coaching basketball class part in the corny pond but this seemed like a layup let's see i love basketball class was at a manageable ten twenty a m twice a week and jet with such an important figure at michigan state i figured there was no way that the head coach of a major victim basketball program would be that involved in teaching a college class so i'll take those three credits and easy four point for five hundred alex but the first day a class it was clear i had miscalculated that class was hard we had pop quiz is a mid term and a final that was two hundred questions i struggled to get at three point in that class judd miss classes just a few times the whole semester and when he did miss he made a couple of his assistants fill in for him one was brian gregory now the coaches south florida the other was some guy named tom izzo who was heathcote successor and even though is those coaching accomplishments eventually surpass heathcote is oh leaned on judge just as much as he had as his assistant if not more that's why judged death on monday was so difficult for so many judd retired as michigan state's coach in 1995 but it felt like he never left the university when i covered him as she basketball i could always called for a quote and he would always mess with me and say he taught me everything i knew about basketball so blame him you assured a funny story which you likely couldn't repeat and a bunch of one liners you also were assured brutal honesty judge didn't sugarcoat anything that's why magic johnson whom he won a title within that fame 1979 in nc aa championship game said judd made him a better man he definitely mehta saw better spartans.
