"You go, of course, the more commission they get on the deal. You need somebody in your corner and the team's next naturally aren't that, right? If they believe that you could be the difference maker for their team, they'll do whatever they want to do. You have no control over where you go. Would it have benefited me for me to go let's say in the second round to Denver like Brian greasy did in 1998? Yeah, yeah, did I want to? No, I wanted to be the best football player I could be and if I was getting drafted first or second, that meant I was that much better than everybody else, but sometimes we just need people looking out for us on those types of things. I know there's a lot of money involved and I think people stop thinking about the human when there's all that money involved and unfortunately that affects a lot of people. Now, clearly, situationally, there are different issues, like, you know, was it me, you know, high was I the problem? Yeah, you know, unless I changed who I was, ultimately on how I dealt with failure. There was always going to be a problem. I don't see that as much with the players coming out. These days, I think they're more mature. I think they're more prepared with social media and everything that goes into it. Is going to play a big part in all of this because I thought that for a long time was a variable you couldn't quantify. You just simply didn't know how a young player was going to deal with life-changing money. You may get a pretty good idea now 'cause guys may be coming into the NFL having made millions of dollars through that process. So those are kind of the things I'm thinking about and I just, you know, to your point, I think people get lost in the idea that they are human beings that happen to be incredibly good at playing football, but because of all the money, they're kind of seen as just this asset. Walk me through what that's like when someone hears their name. And take me through the CJ Stroud. Second pick, you were the second pick of the draft. What happens then? I mean, like give me the whirlwind of what the next 24 hours is like when you are that high pick of the draft. Well, you have to have a keen perspective about what it is. And for some, they do a really good job of restarting. And when I go and speak to colleges when I go speak to young players that are about to enter the NFL, one of the biggest things I say to them is that you have to see yourself as the CEO of a Fortune 500 company, especially if you're a quarterback drafted in this league. And you have to understand that it starts over. Everything you've worked for to this point has gotten you to this point, but it starts at the beginning again. And a lot of us, me in particular, I don't know if I ever really restarted the engine. I just kind of thought I could continue to do what I'd always done. And everything would have been hunky Dory. And that's just, that's not how it works. You have to, at this level, the top 1% of the 1%, it's a grind. And so walk into the locker room for the first time, find a guy that's played 8, ten years in the league, walk up to him, ask him how he did it. And then follow his advice verbatim. And so sometimes when you're supposed to be the leader of men at 22 years old, you don't want to do that in a time where stigma existed, it felt like weakness to say something like that. And I think guys are better about that. I think guys are willing to, and I've seen it. I've worked with Joe burrow. I've worked with Trevor Lawrence on their way into the NFL. And guess what? They sat in a room with me and didn't look at me like I was someone that couldn't help them be better because of my career and not meeting those expectations. They actually listened maybe thought in their mind, I can learn something here. So I don't make the same mistakes that Ryan did. And that pleases my heart completely because I don't want anybody ever to be as miserable as I was or not be able to achieve or live that dream that they've always wanted to do. So those are the, that's the advice I give the guys when they're heading into the NFL. I think a lot of for us as far as myself as a fan, we think, hey, man, they get here. They get drafted, especially if they're high draft pick. And it's a kumbaya moment. Everybody's like, oh, my man, we're here. We're gonna crush it. How big are the divisions when you get to a team? Do you have to break down those barriers? Because I got to think some guys are thinking, this kid is making a lot more money than I did right now. It might come across entitled. How do you break those down? Well, I think The Rookie salary cap went a long way, of course, to even in and out a little bit more. But you're exactly right. There has to be an ego check and you got to have guys that are in that locker room that are capable. Luckily for me, I had the likes of junior say out and Rodney Harrison, guys that were veterans Aaron Taylor, who played for Green Bay when they won a championship. So I had some guys that could kind of, you know, pull the reins back a little bit on me when I started to get two out of control. Thinking I was, you know, the greatest thing out there. And so those are the types of things you need. You gotta have some veteran leadership. You know, and you have to be able to understand fully that you have still so much to learn. Your physical talent is off the charts. If you are a first round draft pick, if you are a second round draft pick, if you are a draft pick period, you have more

"The MM QB NMO podcast. I'm Gary gramling. And I'm Conroy. Connor, we have entered the elite 8 of our preseason power rankings countdown. And this is exciting because these are 8 really good teams. That's all I got. They're good teams, yeah. I guess I'm just shuffling my papers here. I thought we were talking about Tom Brady on The Masked Singer. I'm sorry. Well, we haven't gotten to the box yet in this countdown, so maybe this is the show where it's very appropriate to talk about The Masked Singer. And potential contestants. Who are also 44 year old quarterbacks. I do. Well, let's move on and if we happen to, and if we happen to catch a masked singer tailwind, I actually have some takes. But let's get to the countdown. Okay, so I'm gonna count down 32 through 9 at this point before we get to our next four, just so everyone has their bearings as they say. 32nd and last place was the Atlanta Falcons 31st, the bears, 30th, the Seahawks, 29th the Texans, tie for 27th between the Jaguars and giants, 26s the jets, 25th, the Panthers, 24th, the commanders, 23rd, the Vikings, a tie for 21st between the dolphins and the Steelers. 20th is the browns, 19th, lions 18th cardinals, tie for 16th. That's the saints and the Titans. We had the Patriots in 15th Thai for 13th. We have the Raiders and the eagles in 12th the Broncos 11th colts, tenth Bengals, 9th, ravens, that brings us to the 8th team in our countdown. That is the San Francisco forty-niners, and I ask you, Connor. What's the deal with forty-niners? Trey Lance is in Jimmy Garoppolo is out. Brian greasy of Monday Night Football fame is now the quarterbacks coach. Former former chargers head coach Anthony lynda is now the offensive coordinator. And this is a really interesting team that got absolutely decimated in terms of they were the trendsetters, right? So everyone wants to run a Kyle Shanahan offense. So what do you do? You steal Kyle's players and you steal Kyle's coaches. It is so far and beyond anything that's reminiscent of when they first started to get good. All these other guys are head coaches now. Mike mcdaniel is a head coach. Rich gangrel, the guy who would have been their offensive coordinator this year is down in Kentucky with the great will levis and all of a sudden you have a lot of turnover which happens with something that Bill Belichick is dealt with a lot in his career too. And you're hoping that this is year really year one of the Trey Lance era, which was supposed to start in earnest last year, but instead you kick the can down the road and you got one more year out of Jimmy G, which resulted in a nice little playoff run for Kyle Shanahan and John lynch. Yeah, they did hang on to D'amico Ryan's their defensive coordinator.

"Are we sure? I'm not sure. I feel like it's both they're both kind of guys. They've played a little bit, neither it was amazing. But if I'm Seattle, I at least give a phone call to Green Bay. Hey, we'll give you a second round pick for Jordan love. And maybe because you got to get the quarterback right in your rebuild if you're Seattle and is that a healthy to have two young quarterbacks competing, I don't know. But I don't know, maybe that's a bad idea. I don't know if I'm going to, I don't know. Should Seattle, I think Seattle should give just a really depends on I wish I could talk to drew lock. If I'm Seattle, I'm getting in the room. I'm talking to drew lock, getting to know the guy. And if I'm not sure how it's my guy, I might make a move to go get Jordan love as well. Because that's one that, I don't know, a lot of unknowns with drew lock as the potential franchise quarterback in Seattle. All right, final topic today, former Monday Night Football broadcaster Brian greasy is leaving ESPN to be the forty-niners quarterback coach. Good for him. Getting out of broadcasting, going back to the game, very cool. I'll tell you what, man. As a guy who's been around football a lot and then been away from football and broadcasting about football, I mean, I have a lot of contacts. I talk to a lot of people, but it is painful sometimes to feel like an outsider, looking through a window into the game. I miss quarterback meetings. I miss watching film with a group of guys. I miss all that little stuff about being around players. And I would imagine Brian greasy missed a meetings and planning and all the little stuff you get when you work with other players and work with people. And it's interesting to leave Monday Night Football to go be a quarterback coach. But I mean, you got a lot of job security Kyle Shanahan's awesome. And this came after. So Brian grey say, we'll talk about why he left and some of the stuff behind the scenes at ESPN. But Sean mcvay reportedly turned down $100 million to be a broadcaster for Amazon. And took less money to stay as the rams head coach. What's that about? Why would you take a job as a head coach when you're offered a $100 million to be a broadcaster, an easier job with more money? And kind of a lesson here, in my opinion, is that at some point you have to choose the job that makes you happy. If your bills are paid either way, then what's wrong with taking the job that makes you happy. And sounds more fun..

Martin back to aaron rodgers who has had plenty say off season off the field but his play on the field week. One against the saints didn't say nuts. Rebate was without david bacteria on the lines that certainly factors in but either way. The packers are owen. One rodgers struggled mightily on third down against the saints completing. Just two of seven passes for twelve yards while throwing one of his two interceptions on the day. It's really uncharacteristic of this guy. He led the entire nfl and pass yards third downs last season and another reminder that he didn't play in the preseason but let's get some quick reads on the rogers situations. And what do you make struggle. did they go to. Gpc sawgrass together. Rogers floor because it's rare to watch them both get outcoached and outplayed. And that's what happened. No play action through three quarters when aaron rodgers played six play action. That's something that really makes them different as an offense last year. Now it's week one. You wanna see marked improvement through week too and i want to see that offense abundant. We talked about over the last couple of weeks. Three new pieces are want to see them. Get some cohesion reps. Let's see what he looks like. Yeah i'm here for the emotion and listen man. I did not like aaron rodgers. it reminded me of urban meyer on this island or trevor lawrence. Getting his head banged against the saints. Listen man this is not good. Everybody knows that losing football games happen but with everything that transpired this all season into come out have week one performance like this. This does not look like something that was just off. The field that erogenous can fix there is an issue in green bay people. So i thought the saints defense would put up a good fight. I didn't anticipate them absently whooping and they were dominant at every level. Guys we knew there was potential mismatch on d. line versus that reshuffled Packers offensive line but the linebackers. Are you davis marcus. Williams marshon lattimore when he was healthy in this game. We're all phenomenal. They played a ton of two man which is their signature With the two high shell and the man coverage underneath and just was not ready for it. I don't know what they got. Beat soundly is this in one word more about the packers or more about the saints. Being good packers interesting. I think you could see it either way anybody else. "Hill pod necessarily corrupt But it it. It felt very cold to me the entire situation. Shocking with sean payton involved. But just watching the whole thing. Unfold on monday night and listening to louis riddick. Brian greasy talk about it and they were basically inferring that throughout the week during the production meetings. Tatum hill was increasingly frustrated. Seem to have Acknowledged the fact that he was falling behind in this job. And sean payton kept telling the broadcast crew and tastes hill. That like you're just too valuable just the way you are and you know that kept being the sign is like i can't sacrifice you as a quarterback because i need you all these other places and so they just kept repeating it and repeating that to the point where i was like. What are we doing here. Then what's the. What was the point of all this. Was this ever a competition did he. You know and was james just so bad that they had to keep saying it was a competition until there was one day when sean payton could like slam the table mic okay. Now it's over. He acted like a quarterback finally. Well that's the thing. There's definitely a practicality to saying okay. Well we can use taste him on this other role whereas jameis winston if he's number two quarterback he's just you know he's going to be on the sideline the entire game so there's that but just looking at it again purely from what these guys have put on film in you know. We saw james for years in tampa he had very limited number of snap said he took last year but I've written about this play. I will probably write about it again. Before the season starts he played that one half against the forty niners at home when drew brees originally got hurt. And he was protecting a two touchdown lead and he threw the most jamesy dangerous mistake throw and bounced off jimi wards chest basically but the issue with james and. We heard all this stuff about like. Oh you know. He had the lisa surgery now so now he has now he has. I don't know x ray vision. Something like that. To whatever that was being termed as he doesn't have to squint anymore like george costanza spotting the spotting the the squirrels and seinfeld but yet he just makes these mistakes that are i don't know i don't know how you can justify him. It's it's not it's not misreads. it's not trap coverages. That are fooling him. He is just simply like not seeing full grown men on the second level of the defense and just putting the ball endanger again and again and again and again. And i'm not quite sure how.

"Trevor siemian in two thousand sixteen and twenty seventeen and trevor siemian career did not parallel of John elway not even close to brian greasy. So look lock with the second was selected in the second round of the twenty nineteen. Nfl draft with the intention of becoming the quarterback of the future for the denver broncos. They run few a couple of them before. It didn't get the job on that one. Some being first round draft pick so they went with lock and you know last season he showed that. Look man you know. He was a second round draft pick. Who wasn't really ready to take the reins of being a franchise quarterback struggle leading the nfl and turnovers at nineteen with the worst completion percentage. Somewhere around fifty. Seven percent in the league and had the thirty second passer rating with seventy five point four. And you also have to remember that. This was also a guy along the to other quarterbacks this past season for the broncos who came down with kovic which caused denver to dylan to a football game without an establish quarterback Playing for them that week. So i don't know exactly what the tall tale sign is exactly. I mean we can always you know if you're drew lock you can always You know say that. There's the possibility i might get back in. I might get another chance. We're speaking about the nfl. Here were speaking about a seventeen week games week season. We're speaking about teddy bridgewater so there might be a situation. Where if he gets injured then locked by get another opportunity. I don't think bridgewater is going to play bad enough to where he's going to be the problem for the broncos. Go to a quarterback change if this was a situation where it was like. Look you know. we're to seven. Were not doing well. We're facing the reality that we're not gonna be. We're not gonna meet the expectations that we wanted to meet and we're just going to be now going into rebuilding mode and this that and the other so you know a guy like bridgewater who has bounced around such since tearing up his knee minnesota that we know we're going to go ahead and jettison that idea of bringing drew lots to see what he can do. I don't know if that's ever going to be the scenario with teddy bridgewater at your quarterback. I just think that he's competent. Enough to not be the problem if a team is not doing well overall or not doing well from the offensive standpoint so this is a situation where look if if it was a situation where there are going to be looking towards the future. The far future. They'll be doing it with the second round draft pick in the second year. Who coach on the record and said that it was a tight battle between bridgewater and And drew lock. But that's not the case. That's not the case. This looks like to me a guy in vic fangio who making this move. Also with the implication he looked really need to save my job. You know i. I'm going into my third season. In denver with a combined record of twelve and twenty. I would five and eleven last season after going seven nine and in my rookie season. I can't afford to go six and eleven. I can't afford to go four and thirteen or something like that. I'm one of these coaches on artsy. So which quarterback right now between drew lock in teddy bridgewater gives me the best chance to.

"Look at him now. He's running the tame. Now you gotta you gotta fight through the initial forays of that. You've got to be willing to be low key about it. And if mark messier comes walks through the door but it's going to go nuts gretzky now automatically becomes the most popular player of a particular sport to broadcast the sport in some way. Yeah like this. Be like joe montana trying to do it. This knows they'll tell you what this would be like. This would be like michael jordan. Trying to do basketball would be yeah. That would be the best example. I mean or if peyton manning actually wanted to be in the booth which he clearly doesn't because he's turned down a million times alvie similar. But i guess the closest jot with love. Both eli and peyton to do it together. It'd be great that's like nothing against guys at. Espn right now. but one. Because i think. Brian greasy in those guys do a good job but if they really wanted to knock it out of the park peyton and eli together on monday night football be hilarie. It'd be phenomenal. So i'm trying to think the best perform gretzky did it. Maybe a rod doing fox and espn was probably the best player in the sport to then turn broadcaster. I can't think of anybody else's generally not like the best guys to ever replay are doing also made so much. Is that thing. They don't have the show up to do it. That's the big thing. Like i don't know short every lives in l. a. Now so. I don't know if he would want to travel to the tnt studios. Of course all this instagram stops because dame sword. He's getting paid to do that. Analysis cameo he probably cameos different cameos people asking them to do but he's probably one of the more popular guys on cameo. Don't know about that. All his cameos are great. Caitlyn jenner is the most popular person on camera. Right sean avery. It's a niche situation with avery. I know he does a great job. I don't think he's one of the most popular again like he lives in l. a. And i just. I don't know i can't speak for them because i don't know but i'm saying he does these instagram stories while watching a game show that he's can do that if you're if you're tnt and you and you like shaq and charles..

What i remember. Most i went to a show. It was possibly the greatest concert ever seen. It was reba. And george strait. Taylor swift opened us. She was just starting out. I mean she was brand new but it was cool. Because you know we we had seen taylor but while she was performing. We're backstage waiting to meet everybody else. We're we're back with reba and if you remember ribas. Tv show One the co stars was melissa. Peterman she was the sidekick of rebound the show and she was just hilarious. Great friends well at this particular concert. Melissa was there she was back stage. And we're back and she was just a riot and had had a couple condom. So we're backstage with with remote. Melissa melissa's going. Hey we should all go into leeann womack dressing room and steal her jello shots and going. I'm having none of this. Y'all not in. And that's when all of a sudden into the room. Comes brian greasy. Who had just left the broncos at that. And i remember my wife going over and getting their picture taken with brian greasy. "Before half instead of 14 6 when Tampa Bay had no designs on trying to push the ball in that scenario, Yes, the big play in that obviously, is the one you're talking about, but it wasn't a reception. It was an interference call. Did you think it was that There were a lot of complaints about the officiating in the first half? What did you think of it? I didn't. I didn't. I didn't have a problem with that. In fact, we had John Perry on our broadcast as well have had him all year. Two time Super Bowl official on I asked, John said, was that ball catchable? And John said, Listen, that ball was catchable. You can't determine if Mike Evans if he continued to run, whether he would run under that fall in stride. He was he was knocked down by the by the defensive back. Assumes that happened. Any officials gonna throw the flag? OK, greeny in and Brian Gracy who's with me here so that we'll make that the last Super Bowl conversation? I have my I'm now deciding the Wednesday of the week after the Super Bowl is the last day to analyze the game and we can talk about other things. So the quarterback carousel this offseason Brian is going to be unbelievable. We've already seen the first big move made with Stafford going to the Rams traded for golf and everything else and now we're waiting on Wentz. So as you see Carson Wentz Right now He's a player who obviously has exhibited that he has Ah, great deal of talent, but things have gone very much sideways for him. What do you feel like is a good next step for him to become the player? That at his very best he could be Well, the next step for him is very clear. It is to get a fresh scenery to get out of Philadelphia, and I'm not a big fan of the way this is going down. I'm not a huge fan of the way that the front office on how he rose been and Jeffrey Loria are handling this situation. But be that as it may I'm not. We're not here to talk about that talk about the future of Carson Wentz. He needs to get a fresh set. He needs to get out of Philadelphia and have somebody that in a fan base that's going to give him a chance. That has to be first. Then I separate the skill sets of Carson Wentz and the mentality of Carson last the mentality needs to be rehabilitated. I don't think there's any question about that. I think the talent is there. S O. If I look at places that he could potentially go, who's gonna be the best that rehabilitating his psyche? On. Drew's gonna have the pieces around him to allow him to do that. You know if you go to Chicago well, Chicago's offensive line was no great shakes last year, and if you're gonna put him back in the same situation, he wasn't Philadelphia without a lot of playmakers. I'm not sure that's a good idea. Now Indianapolis everybody and I agree. Seems like a natural fit for him with his former coach on offensive line, It's unbelievable it run the football have great defense. So those two those two are on opposite ends of the spectrum, one of which, I think will be great. One of which I think will be a big risk. I think he needs structure. And he doesn't need to be the guy that everybody is putting all their chips behind. He needs to be part of the solution. Not the solution. I'm so you, you just said exactly the point that we were making. Earlier today, savior. Is not a good role for Carson Wentz right now, ready someday. Maybe someday he could get back to that. But right now he needs to go into a plug and play. Just add water situation. Which India is. Chicago is a bad as a bad spot for him, Brian, I'll give you one other reason, I think, because that's a place where if it doesn't go well immediately, the coaches getting fired. So now there's all that pressure which the coach feels The fan base feels the whole team feels And now all the sudden you're there and the coach has gotten find someone new comes in. So, like everything about that situation feels wrong to me. So I completely agree with you. No, I think San Francisco's another one that should kick the tires. You know, the Denver Broncos, another one. You know some some these Shanahan tree of offensive coordinators. I know he was with Frank, right, and it was a different system, and I get that His skills said would marry well with that Shanahan tree of the stretch, run game and good defense and then the bootlegs off of it because of his his mobility. I think that would be another place that I would look, if our Carson West now there's gonna be a bunch of moves out there. They're gonna be breaking moves. Breaking moves is brought to you by Lincoln Jobs. Build your winning team. Today go to Lincoln dot com slash sports and by greasy it is a pleasure catching up with you here. Thank you for taking some time to do. Let's do this more regularly because I enjoy it and have a good off season and we will talk soon. Thanks for any really appreciated and any time you want to all right, real good. We'll be in touch. Thank you very much. That's Brian greasy. I really enjoyed He and Lewis and and Steve Levy and the whole crew this year. I thought they did a great job on those games. Lewis is the best you know, and I regret I'm only sorry He's coming back because I think that he should be the general manager of a football team somewhere. That would be our loss. But it would be the NFL's gain. But that said we will take advantage of the situation while we have it on. Good. Those guys will continue doing a terrific job on those games. OK, greeny with you presented by progressive insurance, Let's see where we're going to go. Next room here. Okay. Next up. Sorry I lost my place. That sometimes you know what? I'm quick to point out. When Bubba screws things up. In fact, I love to point out when Bubba screws things that's fairly rare, you know? One man's rare is another man's pretty much daily, but okay, Wow. But I'm more than happy to point that one other scrub so I will point the finger of blame at myself. I was looking up something about Ryan greasy. And so I was on the wrong page on my computer to remember that what I wanted to hit next was this. The school. Here's the scoop for today. This is something I find very interesting. 2000 and 21 has started. With two championships that have been named. So far. Two champions have been crowned college football and the National Football League and in both cases Champions were the goats. And those goats continue to distance themselves from everybody else. Nick Saban was already the greatest college football coach ever. He just distanced himself. Tom Brady was already the greatest quarterback and greatest football player ever. He distanced himself. You don't need me to tell you that that's obvious. Here's the part of it that I think is interesting. I don't think it's a coincidence. Do not believe it is a coincidence that during this unprecedented time During a.

"Think Jim would have had that game. But John John Unplugged the electric and the game will stop for a minute and killed Jim's Mo mentum, You know? Hey, that's brother pulling tricks on brother but at the end of the day, I'm still a hardball fan overall, so it's good. That stuff you got us halfway there. Nice job would Yeah. 73 floor nomine 18 50. Let's go to Mustafa whenever we stopped up. Some stuff. No. Well, how you guys Good. Your question on a Me after the Not not, but isn't that a little is not only a popular position because Right now, like the last caller said the basketball program even sound ground right now, But the football program can Listen ground. They could make us some girl. He can't catch up if they wanted to do this. That's here. The whole friend base gonna be wanting to take some some references. But you're gonna have to start giggling McCarty from year one. So was what I will do is If everything goes well, drama would be able to play for championship in the next three years where he went, I don't know, but What is the goal right now? I mean, he's outclassing the whole conference. You seem like the mother admitted by this question. Stop. There are question against the NBA coach. I mean, he's that's a pretty good They're all hoping that this is just a mirage. He's not gonna be able to keep it up. He's looking at the flip side of that Mustafa's in Trevor. Laurence didn't even start from Game one, you know from Clemson. What? I'm sorry about our then it's not not not from the game along. But why? What is okay? Not from game you go. Just get my God. He's good. I've advertised. If he's organized, he should start. He should start. I want the best player to play the position. If you can't come in and demand discipline and play football, they know Mr for you're wrong. I ain't taking the bumps and bruises. I'm taking the best quarterback who plays said if he either thighs He should start from day one from Game one. That's fine, but what I'm trying to do here Is recording past that he's coming with And the problem that he He found here when he got here or do you only organized They compared together for three years. We are from now when he's about to exit the program. And he want to be some some some Jevon. I mean, we're gonna have some juggling out here. That's what I'm saying. Even over miles. Gonna lose that, too, You know, couple months ago. Just pick a quarterback and ride with us. Stop dancing around. Don't look at me. He's not your guy. Don't be playing that that philosophy. Years. Maybe second year he'll be all right. No, give them the Mustang to die the job. And let him learn. Never made mistakes by your three. You will have what? Oklahoma Hardwood, Uh, become a seal his 30 years. You're gonna have what company without putting my wife that I mean. Ruins. We're not going out with any year out of this guy. Do not waste. I need to let him go guarantee you, Mustafa. You will be the first person when we get that big loss to that team. And that freshman makes a mist. Ake, you're going to say, why are we starting this guy when we have two veterans on the field? And I'm going to say to you because you said he should play. I He gave me what I don't want is Waste couple years on this guy, and by the time we started you still you. He's gonna be like this. It wasn't don't you reckon you breaking in up? You started every year. I'm willing to salvage this season. I am wanting toe. I'm telling you, I was baffled. I'm telling you, I'll be willing to start over the season. To get JJ McCarthy ready. What's so funny? The guy out of that guy, his leadership. He gets this whole class together by himself. We'll get it. Go, go well shoots his speaking. He's coming. Everybody down. He want a fan base. I want to know what this guy has to offer. Right where you want to see him, given that from day one and just going with it for three years by your tweet, give my have something going on here. I think George Mason c. I'm down with that. I don't want it. I don't want it again. Just like everybody was. Everybody's done with Brian Greasy. His his junior year they were done with him. Didn't want me anymore. Didn't want to see him anymore. Brian Greasy came in one the position and then one of one of Rose Bowl won a national championship. So stop with that mess. Mustafa, stop it! Let me get up, even that Georgia he's very first year. All right. My life. Several one stop. He's ready first years. Let the guy get the job this season is not going to be very good in the real world. I don't give anybody nothing. You gotta earn the position. You're not given the position. You earned the position and unless he comes out and earns it, too. You wanna give it to him and say, Oh, you're a freshman. Your fee Non. You're You're a five star. We want to give the box into you know, Mustafa, not what we should do. In the other hand, what you're going to say good. Not look out was that I don't agree with you never will. Mr halfway. "Call Greg O'Donnell at 866496 23 100. He's got an event going to we're going to talk about in just a minute. But our brief hit with Brian greasy starts now, Brian, Welcome to the Murph in Mac Show. Brian Murphy. Paul McCaffrey, the 40 Niners flagship. So you can imagine what we've been talking about the last couple weeks. Quarterback might be the topic. But how you doing, Brian? Happy Super Bowl week. I'm doing great guys. Thanks for having me on this morning. Oh, yeah. So before we get to Brady just love your opinion on the 40 Niners quarterback situation. You know, everybody here in the bear is torn up about it. You know whether or not you run it back with Jimmy G. How that they miss out on Stafford. What can they ship for Dish on Watson? You got to see this team this year. What's your view of what's the best move for the 40 Niners? Yeah, It is a tough situation. I think if you if you're honest with yourself, you take a step back and look at it Objectively every every general manager every John Lynch out there, and every Kyle Shanahan, a head coach should be looking to improve their team. I think that there are quarterbacks out there that are better than Jimmy Garoppolo. And I don't think you could argue that Jimmy Gras blows a serviceable quarterback. But there were limitations on Deven in the Super Bowl year. You could. You could argue that objectively. S so I think they're looking to upgrade the position as they should be. Um, Matt Stafford would have been a great edition. Now. They lost out on that, too. Shawn Watson would be pricey. I don't know that they're in that. I know that this John Watson would be interested in a roster and an organization that is well put together like the San Francisco 40 Niners, But I just don't know if they're gonna be able to push over the top. Teams like the Jets and the Dolphins that might have more capital to give up. So, um, I think Kyle Shanahan, John Lynch smart there together and how they're approaching this on going to try to upgrade their team anyway, they possibly can. Either. The one that's not nearly a sexy that gets mentioned on occasion is Kirk Cousins. I don't even know if there's any wind behind it. But if you're the 40 Niners is that even worth investigating Well, there's there's history. Obviously, with Kirk and Kyle s, so I think it is worth investigating. And everything is worth investigating. You know, I think it might not be a starting position for you. May you may cycle through two quarterbacks. Um, you know, I think the one that if I was them, the one I really be kicking the wheels on because he might become available. On these young and has upside, um, is Sam Donald and I think that Sam Donald with his skill set and mobility and that offense. With those playmakers would be one that if I could get him for the right price I would be really interested in. Okay, There you go. So in other words, serviceable but with limitations. And if you're Jimmy, let's say they do have to run it back with him. Ultimately, everything follows through Do you have to Do you have to coddle Jimmy's feelings? Do you have to tell him? Hey, I know we try to get somebody else, but we still want to win a Super Bowl with you. The NFL's a big boy leagues. You just don't put on that alligator skin and go go play, huh? Yeah, I think I mean, this isn't the first time that there's been wandering eye. Okay, so I think Jimmy gets it. Um, you know this. Jimmy needs a focus on Jimmy what he can do better, overcoming some of his limitations and focusing on him. You know, they're having the same conversation of a lot of NFL towns Right now. Two people are worried about two. A thunk of my lowest feelings in Miami. I mean, Come on. This is the NFL at the quarterback position in particular. You gotta have really thick skin. Yeah, For sure. Brian greasy, the voice you hear and the Super Bowl Week, So, Brian, you've got an event going on. Right? Let's tell us a little bit. I think it's virtual people can check it out. What's going on? Yeah, thank you. I appreciate the opportunity. You know, I, uh, my mom passed away when I was 12 years old and you know, I was living down in Miami and it was a very difficult time for me and My wife and I started a organization 18 years ago called Judy's house, and it's named after my mom who was duty on we were working with grieving Children and families trying to prevent Negative outcomes of unresolved grief and promote positive coping skills in families and s. So I think that people don't realize how many grieving Children there are in our everyday life, no matter where we live nationally. The number is one at a 14 kids under the age of 18 will have a parent or brother sister died. And we all could be better, You know, talking with the Children in our lives, whether it be our family or friends, family business partners. Talking with them about grief and loss and helping them through that most difficult time. And so that's been our mission for the past 18 years. We've served over 11,000 Children in their caregivers in that time. On beer. Gonna do an event on Saturday night to make people more aware of how they can help the people in their lives that might be grieving. You know, in this pandemic, there's so much more lost, and we can all be better in communicating with each other s. So we're gonna talk. Football on Saturday night. It's at 4 P.m. Mountain Pacific time We're gonna preview the game. Get everybody ready for the match up. I'm gonna have an interview with Charles Woodson. My former teammate, Um, talking about him getting into the Hall of Fame, potentially on Saturday night as a first ballot guy..

Yeah, Yeah, they were big rivals. Yeah, I gotta tell you, Murph, this may shock you and I'm probably like, let this slip out on the air at some point in our history together. But how would you feel, Murph if I told you that I went toe, this is a true story. I went to a WrestleMania event with Big Rick. Do remember Big break over. Is this the first time you've mentioned this? I don't think so. I think I've told you a couple of new all your stories, buddy. It's every like seven or eight years. It was in Oakland was that Oracle Arena and it was in the mid land, probably like the early tooth. Thousands old four ish like 05, and they remember who was the thing to do. I did that. This exactly why I'm bringing this up again. So for you, coach, just so you know, I know nothing about this stuff. I just want his big Rick asked me and I'm like, Yeah, Cool. Let's go hang up yours again. It's gonna be great cause he was really into it. So we go in. First off. He had these killer seats. Murph. I was like, you know, 15 rows back on the floor from the ring, so it's kind of exciting. And like the climax of the night was appearance by stone cold like he just like, did a drive by like he stopped by. He didn't actually wrestle, but he like in the place. What, Murph? It was like the Beatles reunited. Do the room exploded on then I got the rock, too. I got the rock in person, which was when you were there for the Golden age. I got to go. I was trying to tail end of it. I think I think so. Cold was either already out or they were phasing him out and he was facing themselves. He retired in those three years. Maybe he came back like they retire. Multi All times. Okay, It's It's very hopes. Have you ever done it live? Ever seen this stuff? Live? Never a ever like a W W wrestling match. I'm gonna have a conversation with Charles Woodson, my former teammates, which I'm really excited for people to get to know him. He is a finalist for the Hall of Fame as a lot of people know that along with Peyton Manning, they're both first ballot Hall of Famers in my opinion. But we'll talk to Charles Saturday night on the eve of him finding out if he's going to go into the Super Bowl in here into the Hall of Fame, and I'm gonna ask him about his thoughts on the game and how he would guard Tyree kill if he were playing the game, so It's gonna be a lot of fun, and I hope that people register, you know, have a drink. It's only an hour and get prepared for the game. Very cool. Brian. Here's Rick Lewis, Dave's best friend. Congratulations on Monday night Football, man. You You know, when you first got in the broadcasting game, you were one of those. I think rare athletes that just got it right away. And you could tell right away that you were really gonna have a great career in broadcasting. And now money in our football man. That's the pinnacle right there. And we're all proud of you and all your success. Tell us what the first year was like It was it. Was it a bit of a challenge having three guys in the booth? Yeah. Thanks. Thanks for it. I mean, I, um you know, I went straight from playing to do in college football. And and and I did the radio for the Broncos with Dave, obviously. And, um, you know it took a while. It wasn't a seamless transition by any stretch. It's a different skill. There's a different cadence and timing to calling the game the way that you watch. The game is different. Um, but I've learned through the years that you know I'm up there in the booth. Toe help the fan at home for no other reason. I don't have an allegiance to a coach or a team. Um, my allegiance is to the fan at home and helping them to see what maybe they wouldn't see with the naked eye. And and so I think that you're really seriously. I love the game. It's so much fun calling games and Monday night this this year. The overriding sentiment that I have after doing this season is just being grateful. I was grateful for the opportunity to go every single week on site to call a football game and a lot of cases, especially through the first half of the season. Steve Lewis and I were the only guys in the stadium. Watching the game on Git was so important that the fan at home that was the only way that they could consume the NFL this year was through the television and so our job became even more important. And I was just grateful to be able to do it weekend and weak out. There were challenges up and down Rich. I mean from the travel to our team to the communications. Three guys in the booth. You have, but but that would paled in comparison to the opportunity to call games on a weekly basis. Yeah, I would echo Would, Rick said, Thought you did. A great great job was an entertaining telecast that not only does that telecast have to be informative, but it has to be entertaining to trying to. You're trying to attract people. That might not be the hard core football fans that people don't want to. Wanna hear something entertaining. Maybe laugh a little bit and that that zah difficult job. Let me ask you about the game coming up on Sunday. You've seen both of these teams. Um, cash, You know, I sort of go back and forth and back and forth. I just think it's a terrific matchup. So many different storylines. What? What stands out to you as maybe two or three things? That bear watching on Sunday. Yeah, I think that first off I agree with you. I think this is the best match up. We could've hoped for in the Super Bowl. I think you know, 15 20 years from now we're gonna look back at this game. A Zahwa watershed moment in the history of the league honestly on bits because of the two quarterbacks, there's no question that the headline S O anytime. Tom Brady's playing in the Super Bowl. It's gonna be historic, but number 10 is just crazy. Um, so the quarterbacks are the headlines, but to me To me. I think as I look deeper, these two defense's are gonna have a lot of say, as the who ends up winning. The Bucks are in the Super Bowl. As much as we want to talk about Tom Brady. The Bucks are in the Super Bowl because of their defense. They did going on the road three consecutive weeks in the playoffs and then and then what they did to Aaron Rodgers and the Packers. People forget it was the number one offense in the league. All season long for them to go up to play the way that they did after Tom Brady threw three interceptions in the second half that is nuts and the chief The chief defense. People just glaze over them, but they are playing their best football of the year as well. They went up against the bills and Josh Allen, who are as hot as anybody in the league. And played phenomenally. So I think the defense's will be the story at the end of the game, But I do think it's going to be a tight one, and I think that it's going to be entertaining. On the last pieces are the two coaches. We have the two oldest coaches to ever go up against each other in the Super Bowl and the storyline of of Andy Reid. And what we were saying about him before last year's playoffs. He was 13 and 14 for a record as a playoff coach on now, he's one of the most feared and aggressive play colors in the league. And Bruce Arians, in his first time ever coaching as head coach in the Super Bowl is so money really cool story lines? It's gonna be a Thomas one. Gas. Yep, I agree. Hey, listen, Brian, thanks for coming on. Appreciate that We wish you again continued success with Judy's house. It's I think it's a phenomenal effort that you and Brooke could put together And so we encourage people to learn more about that get involved, but enjoyed your work this year, man. Look forward to catching up soon. Take care of yourself. Appreciate it. And if people want to register for the event on Saturday, if I might just go to our website Judy's house dot or that's Judy with an eye on on that website. There's ah linked to register for the bull bash. That's what we're calling it. Again. It's free to register. It's only an hour, five o'clock on Saturday without the have Judy's house dot org's sounds good, but I appreciate the time. Thanks, Prime. Thank you guys. You bet that's Brian greasy, former Broncos quarterback Lost his mom, You heard the story when he was 12 years of age And then 18 years ago, had this idea with his wife to start something to honor her. It's it's a It's just a terrific place. And it's so very much helps kids. The community needs that. You know, the kids needed no question about that. A lot of friends who have donated their time spent some time there and then people who I know who've gone there because they've lost a parent. That's right. That's right. "However, as previously mentioned, Tom Brady is two years older than him and just had one of the best seasons of his career. So can work or shoot because Tom Brady played so well this year. Drew Brees should put off retirement and return next season. Women way more You're saying Drew Brees should put off retirement or Tom Brady should put off retirement. Drew Brees because seeing how Tom Brady's a little bit older, and it's still playing well, Bree should stick around. Two bodies are not the same. He's been beat up. He looks like Diamond Dallas Page the end. I think that that's a I think that's a work. Look, He's getting banged up like this. I feel terrible. In that Super Bowl conversation consistently did win a Super Bowl is all of Famer, but and I know he stuck his foot in foot in his mouth earlier this year. Honestly, I don't think that that's gonna be the overarching theme of his of his Legacy. I think that he's a guy who's done a lot for the city of New Orleans. "The season. However, as previously mentioned, Tom Brady is two years older than him and just had one of the best seasons of his career. So can work or shoot because Tom Brady played so well this year. Drew Brees should put off retirement and return next season. Wait. A min. Wait More You're saying Drew Brees should put off retirement or Tom Brady should put off retirement. I I think that he I don't think that Don't think I think you want to win the Super Bowl. And I think that Drew Brees is probably the most underrated position the most underrated quarterback of the generation. Uh, in that EVP conversation consistently. In that Super Bowl conversation consistently did win a Super Bowl is all of Famer, but and I know he stuck his foot in foot his mouth earlier this year. Honestly, I don't think that that's gonna be the overarching theme of his of his Legacy. I think that he's a guy who's done a lot for the city of New Orleans. I think his guy who's done a lot for your that organization of war over Drew Brees don't know if there's still a Saints in New Orleans. So I think that his legacy it's so big. It's legacy associate wrong that only have one Super Bowl. I think people look back. Go how they only want one Super Bowl and they're not gonna put him up against some of the very best. Yes. The Times are changing. The standards are changing, but I think that Drew Brees. This is his last year and our best Drew Brees, Drew Brees. But a good quarter a great story. Sex with the first pick wouldn't be the first pick of the second round of from center in San Diego. Her do quarterbacks man Purdue quarterbacks get the job done. "For Tim Tebow. Short motions that he wrote, can play fakes in the pocket sets throws passed top Marries Thomas Out over the 45 midfield. Here we go. Fouty 35 ft Race. 2015 Kid passed out, didn't we? So he's laughing like But are you serious seriously? 80 yard touchdown play Touchdown pass on the first play of overtime was one of those years. I remember watching it at home on TV, and I jumped off the couch. Oh, yeah, jumping up and down and I forget who was watching it with, But we're high fiving and hugging each other. I would have done the same thing in the booth. Do that, that that place Was a nut farm. I mean, I can still if you when you see the video as we will, I'm sure this weekend you know the various games Somebody will replay that and you look from the North End zone. Somebody got a shot of People of the marriage running down the West side line towards the South End zone and those fans I mean they were losing their minds. It was such a great, great great moment. Can I mention this real quick David on ICOM passed away, Tommy Lasorda. The charismatic former manager of the Dodgers. He was a player coach, manager and executive 4 71 season. She loved the Dodgers. Didn't he died at the age of 93 back in 2014, he said. I want to keep working for the Dodgers until the day I die. That's exactly what he did. Yeah. He suffered a sudden cardiopulmonary arrest at his home last night at 10 09. Transported to the hospital. And was pronounced dead at 10 57. I know he'd been in the hospital for about six weeks. Yeah, they sent him home. Like a day or two ago. And then he had this heart attack. So What? It would a great character. He was. Yes, yes, And here's some of his post game. Interviews that he did are legendary. If you go back and find those on YouTube Over the one working man hit like three home runs against him, and and he just went off. On the reporter like Tell me what you think about the Kingman performance today and he goes off on the guy. It was a total legendary and F bombs and you mean it. I thought he was just a great character in ambassador of the game. No doubt about that, and that that was during an era that there were a lot of characters in In sports and in particular in major league baseball. And Lasorda was just that. Um, but he loved the Dodgers. That's what I admired most about him. And I told this story before we got full lines. We'll get right back to you. We had gotten ever do this show sports do which later became just the zoo because they took sports out of it. And we had Lasorda on and we got him. It was set up. We got him. We're doing an afternoon show. At that point. I care way. And so Tommy Lasorda was talking us talking to us from the clubhouse. As the Dodgers were getting ready to play somebody we're not even sure what we're thinking E mean. We were thinking, man and we the tall hogs of the trough for what we're getting Tommy Lasorda, the skipper of the Dodgers on our show, and sure enough, here he was, and he was great. So we're talking to him on. Do you know he was such a Ah, a warm, genuine guy. He just made you feel like you know, the Scott and I were two of his really good friends. Yeah. You know how he was always talking about that, Dave? No. Hey, listen, Scott. And then all of a sudden We're probably 34 minutes into the interview. And he abruptly says, Hey, fellas, listen. I mean, I'm gonna continue, but you got a hangover from second, right? Hang on. Put this on. Hold. And now we could hear weaken. Now here, the the L. A Dodgers. Uh, you know, call voice system talking about Dodgers season tickets now for only 17 95 YouTube coming. We're on live radio. Scott never talked on and then he came back. We? We killed probably two minutes and then he came back. But it was just like Hey, wait a minute, fellas. I'll be right back. Yeah, Yeah. You know what he lived in 93. He was never in good shape, never took care of himself loved to eat. It made it to 93 years old, So he definitely used the whole runway. And then there's pictures of him. You can find him on the Internet pitching batting practice in a pair of shorts and no shirt. And it's not pretty, but it ain't pretty to look at, but he pitched batting practice is well into his life. And listen, if you and I That picture was taken of us in shorts and no shirts and pitching batting practice. It would be pretty either, but it's gonna look better than Tommy Lasorda. Yeah, there's no doubt of. Maybe so. Maybe so. He will be missed in the baseball world. We're gonna get back to full lines three or 37138585. Lin in the springs wants to correct something that we said about Elvis Presley. I can't imagine what that would be. Good morning, Lynn. Hi. I have a couple of things I wanna say first while I was on hold. I heard you talking about Tebow and I have to say Except for Ed McCaffrey. He was my favorite Bronco. Okay, so as far as brain greasy is concerned, I have to say he was no table. That's my opinion. It is a quarterback now. Exactly. Yeah, people was one of the best that opens out. That's an exaggeration, but he was a terrific quarterback for the Broncos. And Brian Greasy was not that good for the Broncos. He was. He was a very good football player, Tim Tebow was there's no, there's no doubt about that. And in fact period he's still with the Mets. No, he's not. He's not with the mess he believes. No, you got cut He his baseball career is over. You got cut? Yeah, And I had not heard that misty, relatively recent. Anything I'm saying he was with No, I think I'm compelled to say, sir, He was very close to making the major's last year. Apparently, we got tight, and I hadn't heard that the only thing I'm compelled to say Lynn In fairness to my former partner, Brian Brian. Brian had his moments as an NFL quarterback, right. Brian inherited the mantle after John after John Elway retired. I don't know anybody that could have could have lived up to that. But go ahead. Go in your pool. What's your point about Elvis? Oh, my point about Alison and I have a couple other things. I wanna tell you real quickly, but I didn't have McCaffrey. He was probably my favorite, and we still have a package of Eddie Mack macaroni and cheese hidden up in our closet. But my point about Elvis? Yes. You said his first big number One hit was Hound Dog. It was Heartbreak Hotel. You know, I didn't know it was a caller. I had no idea. No idea. What the first So you're saying Heartbreak Hotel was isn't the first one I know it was his number one hit. My sister's herself his number one fan. Well, you Google it, buddy. You know, I said I do. But I do believe you don't believe it. No e do believe you. I thought you were challenged. No, I would not challenge you when you sound too feisty for me. Okay? Yeah, That's right. I could come down there up there and arm wrestle you If you want me to know what, five years old, you know you'd win. You'd win. I guarantee it And she's right. That was his first number one hit. How heartbreak Heartbreak Hotel. Okay. 1956? Yep. I'll be done correctly,.
Philip Rivers and Kirk Cousins' Season Outlook
"This has become a big part of the season. The the quarterback lawyers out there so it became a topic that i talked about on monday because of the romo defending brady and basically criticizing arians but it seems like a lot of the athletes. Hate the Law offices of romo and collins worth all of these guys that seem to protect the quarterback but then it was another level for the monday night. Game with wentz where people were so mad. Anytime brian greasy would be like well actually was a screen and they missed the block here and it was on again and it looks a lot of guys i used to work with. Espn like name is. They know they are. They got so mad about the. The defense of any of these. Quarterbacks is fair when it comes to the stuff you're at home your home just like the rest of us are watching these games. They give me a break of the tampa thing and then wentz. Yeah i mean. I don't think either quarterbacks in a good situation right now when you look at those two guys. But i also think there's some i mean to to absolve either. One of them of blame is crazy to me. Neither one of our plan well So that to me. It's kind of more a little bit more nuance there. I don't think either one of them are in the right system. That fits what they do right now and the other side of it as well. But that's where you find yourself. Your job is to execute with the situation. You find yourself in. i think carson's little carson's is is is a longer story About everything that's going on there with him to me. He looks like somebody who's kind of just completely lost his confidence you know. See what a guy it out in hoops curious around like in football. We talk about guys to start guiding the ball right. They don't they don't have any confidence or trust and you're really trying to guide the ball and then you end up with some really bad messes. I don't know if a shooter go through a slump. What what that looks like. But that's what it looks like with carson. There's nothing like a quarterback who's lost confidence it really. I think eventually like if you're a decent shooter not just going to not be able to shoot for year. Because you're bummed out. I mean paul george in the bubble so whatever But i don't know what the excuse was another playoff games. I think the biggest thing that you'll notice basketball is a guy who was a guy coming back from some kind of injury and he's good to go it's not like he doesn't trust his knee. And you played a lot of basketball. He's just stuff around the rim. he's inbetween decisions. Sometimes you just forget to drive usually remember used to drive past guys but eventually all that stuff goes away. I don't think there's anything as long lasting in basketball is there is is. The quarterback is completely lost. And then you'll see guys who lose so much confidence they start changing the way they've played like that's one of the crazy things about the cousin story. Is that cousins. Was somebody who took no chances to kind of make his way into the game. And then he had some decent statistical seasons and then he actually started. I think chuck in the ball a lot last year. Know what he actually came around. And then you know. He has dug game after they beat the saints. Which wasn't surprising to me. And then the beginning of this year. He was chuckling at all over the place and they were terrible for complete like changed who they became as a team with cook and yet cousins was great. Cousins will have these moments where he's like two completely different guys which is my biggest with ever putting him up in higher group with with some other people have them up there but cousins to me like in some areas. There's some similarities to rivers. And that i always felt like with rivers man if if if he hits that that hot stretch for him when he get. The postseason like flat goes agree. Example flack over sixteen seventeen games in any season his career. Like you're not. You're not going to buy that as a change of quarterback but he always had that ceiling for manufacturing it for three or four weeks. He's capable of doing that in off they go. I've always kinda put rivers in that category. That if he could get in the tournament and just had to have one of those hot streaks he could carry them and cousins is kind of like the the next version of that were I don't trust kirk over sixteen games but in a three or four game stretch. If you've got the good version kirk cousins like that's that's dangerous. He could actually do something. I always like rivers way more cousins. I wouldn't say this version of rivers but you know he's more accomplished definitely more -ccomplish but i'm just still saying that that rivers his hot stretches lasted longer than any of kirks hot stretches. But i've seen rivers put together three unbelievable games and then just added nowhere. You're like dude what what happened. Like just a clunker can happen so that that to me is where i find a little bit of the similarity there.
Is Detroit Lions coach Matt Patricia in over his head?
"You may not notice or lobbied educate your what New Yorkers in New York Jets fans. Everywhere will feel the last night. Thank God for one time. It wasn't us that looked like this. They got beat us special teams, the Detroit Lions I'm talking about. They got beat on special teams. They gave up a pick six on offense. With Stafford, the jets were running and throwing a ball over them. They will awful. I mean, a complete total meltdown, lack of preparation, everything. I mean Detroit Lions stunk just horrible for this to be the very first coaching appearance head coaching appearance for Matt, Patricia. I mean, my God, did they look off with this totally bit? It was a kind of a former that make you look a Bill Belichick and go like this. Anybody that
