NFL Says Each Team Must Hire Minority Offensive Coach

"You got to hear this package. From ABC News. And the NFL has announced new rules to guarantee more opportunities for minorities and women. This comes after former Miami Dolphins head coach Brian Flores filed a lawsuit against the league and three of its teams for racial discrimination. Trevor alt has more from outside NFL headquarters in New York. Hi, Trevor. Diane, these are really big changes from the NFL as the league has been facing increasing scrutiny and pressure from a lot of people who say they're minority initiatives simply were not doing enough and so beginning this upcoming season, all 32 NFL teams will be required to hire a minority or woman in a prominent offensive coaching position. The goal is to then create more highly sought after a head coaching minority candidates and then ultimately some more minority head coaches, which a lot of people say, there's simply not enough of those right now. This is a substantial expansion of what's called the Rooney rule, which up till now has only required teams to interview one minority candidate before they hired a new head coach. This is also the first time that women have been included. And of course, this change comes as the league is facing a lawsuit from former Miami Dolphins head coach Brian Flores, alleging discrimination in the league's hiring practices, though the league denies those allegations. So I want to get this straight. This black coach feels he got passed over because I guess he's black. Think about that. Let that sink in.

"Dolphins owner Steven Ross ran the blackest organization in the NFL sportswriter Jason whitlock, who he's done, right? He's done a video for PragerU. And he's black. Two. Observed in a recent column. Again, dolphins owner Stephen Ross ran the quote unquote blackest organization in the NFL at one time, his head coach, general manager, assistant general manager, defensive coordinator, and several members of his ownership group were all black. At what point did mister Ross become a bigot when he decided to fire Brian Flores?

"So at the very end here, Ryan, the league's response, of course, was almost immediate denial. You know, they say that this is a lawsuit without merit. They do not promise to investigate. Does that read to you as boilerplate legal stuff? Or is there a message there? What I find interesting about this is the boilerplate response when somebody's trying to sue you, especially in a class action situation is it's without merit. None of this is true. And then the goal is to hope that the court throw it out of the courts throw it out. You try to file a summary judgment motion or something like that. But the problem here, and I think what made this very interesting in the way they filed it, they didn't just make it about discrimination and racism. They made it about allegations of tampering requests from owners. They made it about integrity of the game issues. And that put the NFL in a very interesting position because the NFL usually investigates those things. I'm a little surprised at the NFL didn't say we're going to look into this. Then they could still add, we believe these claims are without merit, but we're going to look into this. The problem is taking the position of these claims are without merit. It's almost as if you're saying, we don't believe him. We're not even want to look into it. Even though some of these things are central to the game, even though in the past, we've made a point to say anything that disrupts the competitive nature of the game is something we will vehemently investigate. That is something that really stands out. Ryan Smith, thank you for unpacking this case with us and I have a very strong feeling we'll be talking to you again. Absolutely. Anytime Pablo, thanks. I'm Pablo taure. This has been ESPN daily. I'll talk to you tomorrow..

"Know, it's interesting, Ryan, the timing of all of this, right? Because while we're talking, the Denver Broncos are now for sale. And there is this question of, okay, wait, so we are very skeptical that the law, the rules, the incentives can change hearts and minds, but the NFL could welcome new hearts and new minds, and that seems to be something that Brian Flores is calling for two. Yeah, I think it is. I think it's something that he would absolutely it seems from the tenor of his lawsuit. It's something that would definitely be welcome. I'm sure it would be welcome if you had a minority owner or a black owner, now coming into the league. But that also sets up a really interesting perspective as well. Is that black owner now always going to hire a black coach owner and say, well, see, we got a black owner now. So we're obviously very diverse. The problem is the people who are currently in charge in the league. These owners, what flora is in his legal team really wants is to say your business is 70% black. You need to find a way in your thinking to treat black head coaching candidates, black GM candidates as just as significant, if not more significant than any other candidates. And that is not something that historically has been the case. At least just according to the numbers. So that's what's going to be interesting in all of this. A black owner joining the league may make some changes may lead to something being different. But it doesn't necessarily mean that all the other owners will change the way they look at candidates. And I'm not saying everyone has some sort of discrimination in their mind. I'm saying that's what Flores is really trying to get at. What is in their hearts and minds and how can we make it so that the real spirit of the Rooney rule was happening that black coaches black GMs potential candidates have a real shot at having significant numbers in the league? Yeah, it's undeniable, just that bottom line, zero black owners, one black head coach, how do we stop getting to a point where that is normal? And so the question, then, Ryan is just what's the timeline for a case like this? Class actions, it's not something that last weeks or months, class actions take years. That's why I think it's so important that Flores and his team seem to be willing to go on with this lawsuit, even if Brian Flores gets a head coaching position. Now think about that. He's essentially suing his boss, but he wants to keep that going..

"Opportunity employer. So Ryan, in addition to the alleged discrimination in hiring that this lawsuit has claimed here, it also makes some explosive like super eye opening claims about Brian Flores as time with the dolphins. And some of the things that Steven Ross, the billionaire owner of the team asked him to do. And I want to just tackle the tanking stuff here first because it is no secret that dolphins in the 2019 season were effectively built to lose. They're not the first team to have that designation to try and basically get the number one overall pick by turning losses into a higher draft slot. But Brian Flores is alleging something far more explicit. Ryan, what did he say? When you talk about explosive allegations, you're absolutely right. He claims that the dolphins owner, Steven Ross. Actually offered him a $100,000 for every game he lost. Think about that. And this is back in 2019. The roster had been gutted, essentially, a lot of people were saying, this team might not win a game. They ended up winning 5. And he says his owners coming to him and saying, hey, lose games, man. We want to get the top pick in the draft. Brian Flores says he flat out disagreed with doing that. And what happens after according to Flores is key. He says at that point, and I'm paraphrasing here. He was labeled as somebody who didn't really get along with the team. That somebody who wasn't really in coordination with the team. Think about what that means. The NFL is based on integrity in many ways. This is why deflategate was such a big deal. The mere thought of deflating footballs to get a competitive advantage, the NFL wants none of that. Yet the allegation here is that an owner would pay a coach to lose games. The coach says I'm not doing that. And the team, all of a sudden decides, well, then maybe you're not on our team. This is the very thing that Brian Flores is trying to change. Because he believes that he was doomed from the start once he started doing that. And that eventually led to his fire. When you have a situation like that, it's not as simple as a coach saying, okay, well, I want a wrongful termination claim and pay me. No, the team can essentially freeze you out and say, I don't want you anymore because you're not doing something that would violate the spirit of what the NFL is about. So his claims are true. This could be one of the most damaging things in this. And I can't imagine how the NFL can't in some way at least look into this and figure out what really happened because the dolphins are saying it didn't happen, but floor is.

"Main thrust of it is as you say about hiring practices within the NFL and race and Brian Flores to just give the background here is a black man whose parents immigrated from Honduras. He was the head coach of the dolphins until he was fired on January 10th. And look, there are all these explosive allegations we'll get to about the dolphin's owner offering money allegedly to tank games, allegedly arranging a mystery kind of lunch date with the star quarterback on a yacht. We'll get to that as well, but Ryan Flores clearly feels like he was also wrongly fired and now this off season as he went out to go look for a new job, one team that seemed to be interested was the New York Giants, but what does Brian Flores say happened, even before his interview with that team? Yeah, this is really interesting because if you're a sports fan and you're reading the papers, you might have read around the time of late January that Brian Flores was a top candidate to get that job. So in this lawsuit, he details the circumstances around it that he had had conversations with executives with the Giants after he had been let go from Miami that they were just didn't bring them in that he talked to owner Wellington Mara. They set up an interview, everything's going great. Then he says he's communicating with a coach who staff who used to be on Bill Belichick because Brian Flores used to work for the Patriots. Yes. And he's communicating back and forth with Bill Belichick about the job. And Belichick indicates, hey, you've landed. Congratulations, Brian Flores takes that to mean, hey, wait, what are you talking about? I don't have my interview yet, but I'm really excited about getting this giant's job. Then Belichick indicates that he's gotten the job. But floor is kind of pushes back and says, wait, are you talking about me or are you talking about Brian davell who also has a connection to Bill Belichick? Belichick then admits, sorry, I messed up and then to say that day ball got the job. Now, if you read that and you see that, you say, okay, so he didn't get the job. Here's the key. The Rooney rule is supposed to be a situation where you bring in a black head coach and you seriously consider him for that job. The problem was, at the time of this text exchange, it was three days before Brian Flores is scheduled interview. Now, what does that mean? The implication is Brian davell had already gotten the job, even though an interview was set up with Brian Flores. And then Flores says he had to then go in and go through the whole process as if he was getting the job, getting interviewed, went to dinner and met with them, that was there for like three or four days, but it was all a sham because the job had already been given to day ball. I think those text messages confirmed a lot of what a lot of us black minority coaches already feel..

"Like you're just kind of being a jerk. And I think you're full of it. I think you're disingenuous. And I think you know it. I do hope that down the road, there is a there is something that happens for patriots fans to celebrate Tom Brady's retirement because I know how much it meant. I have a first row seat because I too am a longtime patriots and Brady fan. And it was emotional when he retired. That is an entire era of my life. My entire late childhood and then my entire adulthood, my whole career, from learning that I wanted to be in sports to turning that into the start of something in college, making it into my career. Tom Brady has been there the whole way was emotional. I have friends who aren't even real football fans who saw the posts about Tom Brady and they were like, man, this is like emotional, even I'm getting like a little emotional. Tom Brady wasn't just like a quarterback in a star in New England. He was a part of the culture. He was someone that everybody knew and everybody understood to be a part of our day to today lives. So even if you weren't a football fan, Tom Brady, he was our guy, right? And so that's what I mean when I say it's just disingenuous to act like it's weird for patriots fans to expect a shout out. No, it's not. It's not. It's weird to suggest otherwise. So everybody can shut the hell up. And I really do hope that down the road whenever the time may come, that patriots fans, I don't care about, I don't care about Bill Belichick. I don't care about Robert Kraft, but that patriots fans get more than a couple slides on an Instagram story. Okay, thank you for joining me, you guys. You can always reach me on Twitter at tiny ray Fox or at shameless TRF. Same on Instagram. I'll be talking about this stuff continuously as the story develops with Brian Flores and the lawsuit. We'll be talking obviously more about the upcoming Super Bowl matchup, hopefully next week things have calmed down a little bit and we can talk a little bit more about what we think the Bengals rams is going to look like. There's going to be Super Bowl media week and stuff. So things are going to be coming out. But, you know, you never know what's going to happen. That's on the.

"That Brian Flores is lying because he's the one with everything to lose. If this is true, Stephen Ross should be gone from the league, sell your team. If there's evidence that John Mara and his organization was committing to coaches before they'd interviewed them and before they had satisfied the NFL's own hiring process of the Rooney rule, there are real there should be real consequences to that. If John Elway showed up an hour late, half drunken disheveled to his own head coaching meeting, that's an embarrassment of league. There should be consequences to that. And then those consequences should also come with preventative measures like having more people of color in the room during the hiring process. Like potentially having outside help in deciding to who to hire, bring in third party help because you have an institutional racism problem. You can't fix it. The call is coming from inside the house. You can't fix it yourself. So I don't know where things are going to go from here, but my suggestion is that you pay attention to exactly what it is that these coaches are saying and what it is that the black people in the league are saying because they're the ones who are at risk. They're the ones with everything to lose every time they open their mouths. And the NFL has proven that time and time again. Okay, we're going to move on to Tom Brady's retirement because it is officially here. After leaving Adam Schefter and Jeff Darlington blowing in the wind for, I don't know, like two days. He did officially retire. It seems like he was always officially retiring. He just, I don't know. Wanted to drag it out or do it on his own terms or whatever the case may be. I don't know if there was logistics behind the scenes or whatever. But he did retire and he posted a lovely little 9 slide post to his Instagram thinking the book's organization and all of his Buccaneers teammates and Bruce areas and Jason light and the whole situation down in Tampa Bay. He had an incredible career and you know it's time that he spend more time with his family and take on new opportunities and blah blah blah. The usual stuff. And immediately, all of America noticed that there was no mention of the Patriots or New England or patriots fans or Robert Kraft or definitely not Bill Belichick. No indication whatsoever he'd ever played for anyone but the Buccaneers in his retirement announcement, which is interesting because he is only been a Buccaneer for 21 months. And he notably played for 22 years. So it was odd. Now there was a fun little situation where part of the Internet was like trying to gaslight everyone else who thought it was odd into thinking they were the crazy ones. Oh, he already thanked the Patriots when he left New England. Why would he think them again? But if we're gonna act, like, it's totally normal. For a quarterback, we spent 20 years of his career was somewhere and then two with another place and just ignore the 20 years. You're insane. You know that's not normal. You know it was weird. You know it was weird. That's not a normal thing to do. Joe Montana didn't do that. Peyton Manning didn't do that. Like, what are you talking about? It's not horrible. Also, those guys didn't even play for 20 years for the same team in the same coach in the same owner and the same fans. And they still didn't totally ignore the other team they played for. It was weird. Now, he did after the fact. Repost the statement. Congratulating Brady on his retirement from Robert Kraft and the Patriots. And he tweeted a cute little cartoon of himself in a patriots Jersey that the Patriots had also posted on Twitter on the duck boats with all his little Lombardi trophies and it was very cute. And he retweeted it, wrote a couple nice words. You know, nothing that takes more than like 15 seconds to do. But never included the Patriots or patriots fans or anything else like that in an official statement. Now, I can't speak to whether or not he has any plans to do that down the road or if he has plans to come to New England at some point. I don't know. I don't know. I have no idea. And if he does that, that's great. This isn't like an emotional thing per se. But I think emotion is coming from all the people telling patriots fans not to be like weirded out by it or not to think it's weird because he put out a Twitter video and a written statement when he left in 2020. I mean, Peyton Manning gave a whole press conference when he left the Indianapolis Colts. Brady put out a video in a statement and he was on his way. That's fine, but it's not exactly like he had a big going away celebration. He was just kind of like gone. So to say, he said what he needed to say when he left, like, yeah, but that wasn't under the conditions he was going to stay in the NFL and there was going to be more Tom Brady. There was more to his story. Now patriots fans are saying goodbye to Tom Brady from the NFL forever. And so it's a different situation. The relationship that patriots fans have to Tom Brady runs really deep and it is different when he retired from when he just left the team. And if he doesn't realize that, and other people are acting like, that's not situation. I think that's bullshit. Don't make patriots fans feel crazy for feeling a little left out of the greatest quarterback of all time who played it for them for 20 years, ignoring that they existed once he left a Tampa. It's weird. There are entire generations of children, cats, dogs, pet lizards, name it, named after Tom Brady. People have included Tom Brady in their wedding vows. New England is plastered with 20 years of memories of obsessing and sharing moments with Tom Brady. And you're acting like them expecting like a little shout out in his retirement speech was crazy. It's not crazy. First of all, no one, no one, no fan base has ever had their quarterback with them for 20 years. No fan base has ever won 6 titles with said quarterback. I mean, you can say what you want about patriots fans, but like I said before, New England is practically a shrine to the man. And I do subscribe to the belief that athletes owe their careers to their fans. If he doesn't want to thank Bill Belichick, I get it. Fine. That's not for me to say or deal with. Like, I don't really care about that. We already know his relationship with craft. As far as we can tell, they're very close. They're Ted Johnson did say that Kraft was pissed and through a temper tantrum that he didn't get mentioned in the retirement speech, but I don't know. I think Brady and craft are fine. But the fans of New England are at the heart of Brady's entire legacy. They were with him the entire time. When the rest of the league, including Buccaneers fans, including every fan from every other team, every media from across the country, every medium member, went after Tom Brady during deflategate patriots fans defended him. Patriots fans were the ones on Twitter taken the heat. They're the ones who've been defending him against a flake gate and spygate and everything else this entire time. Every time someone wanted to say that he was washed patriots fans were the ones who said, you have no idea what you're talking about. Every time someone said he was going to fall off a cliff, it was patriots fans who said, watch, watch what he's about to do. They were the ones. So, you know, if you're good, if you're gonna work in sports, or you're gonna love sports. You owe your career. Just like I owe my career to people's passion over this stuff. So to sneer at it and gaslight everybody into thinking they're crazy for expecting some sort of acknowledgment in light of how dedicated they were to this person for as long as they were,.

"When things are not going perfect around him, he's not the guy to lift up his team, the run game was nonexistent for San Francisco, which is, you know, a very different kind of thing for them. And I also agree with you about Shanahan, you know, you look at the run game, you look at the defense unable to make some key plays, the tart drop on the give me pick by Stafford. The only two sacks for that San Francisco defensive front, which is, you know, one of the best fronts in football, they were awful on third down. I think the rams were like 11 for 18 on third down. So the defense didn't show up as well as they usually do. The run game wasn't there like it's always been for Jimmy G and when it's on Jimmy G's shoulders, he just can't get it done. Shanahan, you know, George kittle at the end of the year, he was not utilized the way he should be. He was not targeted nearly enough. And this game he had two catches for 27 yards. What is that about? And, you know, the conservative play calling from Shanahan backfired. He's been conservative all year long. And on third and two to give the ball to you check up the middle when you have debo Samuel and Elijah Mitchell and George kittle. That's the wrong time there. And the fourth and two decision from the LA 45 in the fourth quarter to pump that football. Totally agree. That's what Shanahan's been all about. He's very similar to Belichick. Fourth down and around midfield, he gets a little bit concerned and conservative and he decided to punt when LA had momentum. So yeah, not great by them. Boy, there's a lot covered. "I'm not losing one bit of sleep going into this game. Obviously, you watch him on film, but he's playing over the guard, so you don't see it all that much. I'm more focused on Robert Quinn who at the time was a really good pass rusher that I was planning. And so we go into that game and we were running power, which is like America's play, right? Away, the backside guard pulls, you got a fullback that leads through and the fullback, the backside guard, have two of the linebackers. The defense, the offensive line, gets a double team at the point of attack. And then on the back side, the center in the tackle work together, where I step down and I'll help on the defensive tackle at the time Aaron Donald until the center can snap the ball and then work back and he takes over my block on Aaron Donald the defensive tackle. And then I do a hinge, which kind of just means I open my shoulders to the defense event and then just wall them off because we're on the back side of the place. So it's not a big deal, but that's like super routine. I've been doing that since I was a freshman in college. I was 18 at Wisconsin and Madison. Never been beat on that in my entire life. It's impossible. You can't slip between me and the center. And the center was Alex Mack, who was also an opera. And Aaron Donald literally like from the ball was snapped, he got in Joel's hip pocket. And it was like a Houdini move. We're both Alex and I crashed down to try to pin him. And he got underneath us and in between us and ran into the backfield and tackled the running back almost at the same time he was getting handed the ball. And that was the moment where I was like, oh my God, this guy is not human. He is built from another planet because he just beat an all pro center and an outdoor left tackle on a double team on the most routine, easy block in the world. And at that point, I knew this dude was going to be a bad motherfucker. Yeah, and he definitely is that now. I mean, he thought he was going to try to kill that guy from Green Day this year. And apparently it was not. Did he have that nastiness, then, when he was playing with you guys, was he talking at all? Because I know when he always feels like with Donald, once you mess with him, then it's on. I don't think he's starts the game at ten with you. So from an effort level he does, but he doesn't. No, no, no. We always say you never want to tug on Superman's cape. And that was the truest thing you could say about Aaron Donald, because he was always given great effort, right? But there was an extra level of hatred that he would bring out. If you did something to him that he didn't like, so you were very careful not to block him longer than the whistle. You were very careful not to cut him on too far on the side where he would get a little upset and feel like that was a dirty play because the last thing he wanted to do was give Aaron Donald a little extra motivation to try to kill you because if you do, you will die. Like there is nobody on the face of the earth that Aaron Donald could not kick their ass, especially in between the tackle boxes. Yeah, man. You're not the first to say it. All right, as an AFC north alum, the overall Cincinnati view of what this team we talked about the old line here a little bit. We know it's burrow and chase and Zack Taylor turning this thing around. Obviously with burrow being a big reason. But you know it's odd. It's a ten and 17 that everybody kind of loves now. We know they have their problems, but how do you see it as a team? You probably played it a little more attention to. Yeah. Yeah, I'm like a closet Cincinnati Bengals bandwagon fan. And I think you're right. They've got the underdog story that everybody loves. Everybody's just so attached to Joe cool borough and the way he's playing the way he's got the ice water in his veins at the end of games and he's just finding ways to win. But then also his mentality his leadership, I think, he's just one of those natural leaders where people are drawn to him. People like him, people want to play for him. And at this point, when you get these teams into the Super Bowl that are both hot, they both have great quarterback play. It's anybody's game. I mean, you can always throw the spread out in my opinion. Because it's just going to come down to those three or four plays and typically it's made by quarterbacks, right? And when you have Joe burrow, you're feeling pretty good about being able to make those plays down the stretch, especially for him coming off of an enormous confidence boosting game against Patrick Mahomes who people were already ready to give the Super Bowl trophy too after they beat the bills. And to have that huge deficit in the beginning of the game, come all the way back and beat him like for Joe burrow as if his confidence couldn't have been any higher and his team couldn't have believed in him anymore to kind of do that, just adds to the fairytale and adds to their feeling of invincibility. I want to ask you about a few other things too and there's always the mandatory baker question probably at the end at some point here. But this Brian Flores stories huge lawsuit now against the NFL, the text message from Bill Belichick. And I wanted to kind of start this way. We know it's a huge problem. When I look at what the NBA has done with the progress that they've made with head coaching hires. And then see where the NFL is that. Anybody that's denying that this is an issue. Your head's in the sand, okay? But how did you talk about this with teammates? How did you talk about it with coordinators, black coordinators? What was the understanding of living in the world and trying to understand how this hasn't gotten better? Obviously being a white male from suburban, Wisconsin, like I don't have the same experiences that Brian Flores or any of the black coaches do. And so when situations like this would come up when I was playing or now that I'm in the media world and just listening to this story unfold, the first thing I always try to do is put myself in their shoes to try to gain empathy for their situation because I think that empathy can build and understanding. And for me, I heard the Brian Flores stuff this morning and my wife and I, we started talking about it. And I started crying because I'm thinking about the situation that he was in. First of all, it was a total bullshit that he got fired in Miami. He did a masterful job and by all accounts, the reason that he got fired was because to a tongue of violet was the quarterback instead of Justin Herbert. And last I checked they had a GM who was responsible for that role. And so to hire a defensive minded head coach to be like sort of that CEO and then to fire him after it seems like everybody on that team believed in him and he was making all the right decisions. He was as classy as they came. They finished with an incredibly hot winning streak, finding a way to win with a quarterback that maybe didn't have the upper ceiling that a lot of these guys in the NFL have. And then to get fired, I mean, it's already a BS situation. And then you hear as he's thinking to his family, like, hey guys, I'm going to get a second chance..

"The cap. Or they could trade him or release him outright. So if Brady wants to say, end his career, where it started if he wants to go back to San Francisco, play for the forty-niners who probably only have Trey Lance and what have you, whatever else next year, maybe they think Trey Lance needs another year and Brady sees that team as a Super Bowl contender just a quarterback away, which he probably did a couple years ago and wanting to go there. Then that's sort of the move that you make. Could that happen? Yes. Do I think it's probable? No. But you never know. Yeah, I think he's done. Jump to somebody who is done in New England. At least for now. You never know what the future holds. But Josh McDaniels, Dave ziegler, both going to the Raiders, Greg, just kind of your thoughts on the impact this could have on Mac Jones first. Yeah, Nick, I think a lot depends on what they do to who they bring in to replace Joshua. Is it Bill O'Brien, Greg? I think he's the leader in the House, the overwhelming favorite. And I think that's the best scenario for everybody. You know, you get Bill O'Brien and they already have a quarterback coach there Beau hargey. I don't know how they feel about him. There are a bunch of patriots, former patriots assistants sort of in the ether like Jerry siblings, was the former quarterbacks coach was on Joe judge's staff. There's George godsey who was on Brian Flores as Miami staff, chatto is still, I think he's a passing game coordinator for the browns. There's a bunch of guys still around. But to me, in my mind, Bill O'Brien is clearly the top choice to replace Josh McDaniels. It makes things a lot easier. He has a relationship with Mac Jones, Mac helped teach him the Alabama offense before Mac went to the Patriots. Last off season. So I think that's great. I think bill's great with young quarterbacks, you know, look at his work with deshaun Watson. It was not exactly a patriots type quarterback. He certainly made that work in Houston. He won a lot of games with a lot of mediocre quarterbacks in Houston, made the playoffs four times with guys like Brian Hoyer and case Keenum and other guys like that. So I think the world of Bill O'Brien if he comes on, that's a Grand Slam for the Patriots. I think it's the best case scenario for them. And then, you know, also, we just got a bulletin. Yeah, Joe Brady's going to be the new quarterback coach for the Panthers. So he takes the place of Ken Dorsey. So yeah, so you know the other thing is, you know, Dave ziegler. To me, that's the bigger piece of the puzzle right there, because Dave ziegler was a guy who had been in the system, stepped up, they retained him when he was interviewing with the Broncos a year ago, stepped up to retain him. And, you know, we saw the impact that he had on the first draft, you know, and also free agency..

"Have now at least Bill Belichick and Robert Kraft have now joined Lloyd Carr, the rest of the teams that passed on him in the 2000 draft, like all these historic grudges. We all know that Brady's an all time grudge holder and has chips stacked on his shoulders. And I think the Patriots have now joined that. I understand what you're saying, but I think now in hindsight after what happened in Tampa, you know, he goes down there and they turn over a lot of things to him. The offense, some of the person that we've heard people mention, he was the GM down there. He looks at it and says, look, they gave me more power. I just wanted to be more of a partner. Like, at the end of my career and you get this from a lot of older quarterbacks in this league, they want to Rogers right now, far was the same way. But they want to be involved. He wants it to be a partnership. He thinks that he was he had earned being more of a partner with Bill Belichick and Belichick gave him the Heisman wouldn't give him the contract. And so I think that goes into it that he wishes it wouldn't have ended that way. He wouldn't have been miserable if Bill brought him more into the fold to make it more of a part. I'm not saying it's right. I'm just saying, I think that's what he believes. I don't think it's a fair assessment. I think it's Brady living in his own vacuum in his own tunnel world. You know, wasn't the Muhammad Sanu move made with Brady in mind? Well, I mean, I don't know. Yeah, I don't know if Belichick makes that move if Brady's not pushing for it. How about Antonio Brown? How about the fact that Belichick went against some of that was Bill? I think that was Bill. I think Bill ran to that. He knew how shitty they were at wide receiver. He ran to it and didn't vet it. I don't know. Maybe. But Brown moves in with Brady and their BFFs. I mean, for me to believe that Brady had absolutely zero to do with that, I think he has something to do with that. They had the opportunity to trade Gronk. Before he started to, you know, really, really slow down. And they decided to hold on to Gronk. I mean, because of Brady. Exactly. So when you look at this, like, Brady acting like, oh, I never had say and I never had power and that's not the case. This is not an Aaron Rodgers situation. You know, Green Bay would never spend money on free agents. They were never, you know, they had draft picks that they didn't spend on offensive talent for years. They didn't spend a first round pick on an offensive guy forever. Like, I think Rogers had a much better beef than Brady did. Did Belichick, you know, bend over backwards to please Brady, of course not. That's not the way he rolls. But I think it would be an unfair assessment for Brady to look back and go, oh, they never let me get involved. I think that's unrealistic. I think, especially towards the tail end, he had a good amount of, say, and Belichick was absolutely..

"Officially retired yesterday, Adam Schefter, Jeff Darlington. They had it over the weekend. I thought all the stuff coming out from Tom senior and other people. Look, it was rather obvious with the semantics they were playing. That Brady was going to announce his retirement. They weren't pushing back that it was necessarily the wrong information. They just seemed like they were peeved that it did not happen on Brady's clock. But now we know he's done. He posted on social media yesterday. And the one thing that everybody is talking about is the fact that Brady did not bring up New England, the fans, the Patriots organization, craft, Belichick, as if they did not exist, why? You know, great question, Nick. Look, do I think that Tom Brady left the Patriots two years ago? You know, he said, he said his things at the time. They played the Patriots this year. He said plenty about the Patriots about Bill Belichick and Robert Kraft and his former teammates and coaches and all that stuff all during that time. You know, I understand all that. But Tom Brady was officially retiring from the National Football League. He at least owed the Patriots to patriots fans, ownership, Belichick, all these guys. At least a couple of lines in his retirement speech. I mean, considering he was gushing about, I mean, like, Jason light and Bruce Arians and you know all these guys who's been with two freaking years and one super one Super Bowl title. You know why, to me, it's clear evidence that Brady is still really upset about the way things ended here. That he thinks it's at the end of the day at the end of his career in this may or may not be the end of his career. At the end of the day, he did not get to finish his career on his terms where he wanted to with the franchise that he basically put on his back and built patriot place all that stuff. And I think he's, you know, going through this season and I think down in Tampa was a little bit of a circus. I think he just looked at it and said, he's bitter, looking back on it now and I think that was clear with some of his dad's comments this year. You know, some of his own dealings and things like that. I think that Tom Brady is very bitter about the way things ended that he didn't get to end with the Patriots. And this is sort of his last ditch effort to sort of give them the Heisman. And share with everybody how disappointed he was that that did not happen. You know, it's just such a strange thing. The first thing I would say is, you know, should have should something have been said in the 9 page post. Sure, no doubt about it. I mean, it would have made sense. It would have been probably the right thing to do. I will say, though, if there's something bigger planned here down the road, then I kind of don't want to sit here and throw him under the bus, just yet, because if there is, again, you know, Brady has his own calculated way of handling things..

"It's going to be an adventure to get to that final, this is how we feel and what we want done because we're going to jump to Brady in a minute, but when you look at this idea of what can we do to change things, we have to first realize that this is something that's been grained for decades, much like throughout the country, hundreds of years and things that happen hundreds of years ago would just continue to affect current life. It's the same thing in the NFL. You know, you have generations of owners and their kids and then they take over. You know, mcnair down in Houston, who has no idea what the hell he's doing. But he gets the ownership because dad gave it to him. So you have the nepotism angle. SHAD con when he's gone, I'm sure it's going to go right to Tony Khan. He's going to own the Jags. Jerry Jones with Steven Jones. So the problem is, how do you break that cycle? And when you have a situation like a Jerry Richardson and Carolina, you know, maybe you should have jumped so fast that David tepper and look at some other people because those opportunities are few and far between in the NFL. And that also goes into coaching staffs. You know, I mean, you look at the coach and Andy Reid had his children on the staff. Belichick has his kids on the staff. And it kind of just, you know, kubiak, his children. It just kind of that's how the system has worked for decades. And it's going to be very difficult to parachute in and make any kind of gigantic landscape change in a matter of a year or two. And it also goes down into the level of college. In high school, you know, college football doesn't have a ton of black head coaches. Many of the hires that are made right now are offensive coordinator positions. Guys brought in or, you know, coordinators that are brought in to be the next head coaches. When you look at offensive coordinators, I think it was like four or 5 of the OCs this year were black. So if you're going from that pool, again, you're limiting the pool of black people that can rise up and be given the head coach slot. So it's a very layered, difficult, delicate thing. And I only hope that Flores and his representatives have an idea like you said. The last thing I want to touch on with this is what you brought up with Belichick..

"As I said, Greg, we've got a ton. We've got the retirement of Brady. We've got McDaniels and ziegler going to the Raiders, but we have to start with the biggest NFL story that broke yesterday. Brian Flores, he is actually filing a lawsuit against the NFL. You look at this lawsuit that he's filing. It's a class action lawsuit, which means you can bring other people in. It is against the Broncos, the Giants, the dolphins, and the NFL for racist, hiring practices. First Greg, your initial reaction when you saw this news come across yesterday. Yeah, it was so stunning that so what happened was I was on felger mass at the time when I'm looking at my Twitter account and I saw it to Murray, retweeted some reporter and it was the first instance that I heard about it. And I was like, and I took a look at it real quick. Again, we were live on air at the time. And I'm skimming through it. And look, it's Twitter. I don't know. I made mistakes before where I've retweeted things and being mistaken and this was kind of a big deal. So I like asked the guy I was like, is this real? And then quickly, it became clear and confirmed that it was indeed indeed real. And a couple of things, Nick that sort of stand out about this to me. Number one, it's a historic sort of lawsuit for an active coach international football league to try something like this forward. Especially a young talented blackhead coach like Brian Flores, so the guts that it takes to do something like this are just I mean, they're huge. And it doesn't surprise me. That it's Brian Flores who would do something like this. You know, he's a guy covered with the Patriots. A guy I've kept in touch with, I have an immense respect for Brian Flores in terms of the type of coach that he has type of person that he is more importantly. You know, that being said, I.

Brian Flores Files Discrimination Lawsuit Against NFL

"Most interesting story of the afternoon was Brian Flores. Late last afternoon on the West Coast. It's early evening on the east coast. I'm starting to do my show prep, and I see Brian Flores, who was head coach of the Miami Dolphins for a couple of years, has just unloaded on the NFL. Alleging discrimination against black coaches. And he shot at the NFL and his complaint, and he hit it, but he really took out Bill Belichick. Because Bill Belichick thought he was texting somebody other than Brian Flores. And he was texting, I think Brian did all telling him. Hey, the fix is in. Don't worry, there's the paraphrase I don't have in front of me. Don't worry, Brian, you've got this job, you're gonna get this job. They told me you've got the job. Good for you. You're gonna do great with a giant Brian Florence was in the about to head off to interview at New York Giants land. He had to go through a charade because of the Rooney rule. The Rooney rule requires that you hire at least one African American. You interview at least one African American for every opening for GM and head coach. I think that's the Rooney rule. Now the browns have actually lived by the Rooney rule. They had Hugh Jackson as their head coach. They got the amazing Andrew Barry, who's maybe the best GM in football, both black men who are great professionals. You didn't do so well. But but you can't pretend. And I think Brian Flores, we've got to payday

"Brian Flores wrote back to say, you know, coach maybe you know something I don't, but I still haven't gone in for my interview yet. And culture response with question marks and Brian Flores has provided these tweets. These texts publicly, and then coach Belichick realizes that he has texted the wrong Brian. And the Giants, without telling the media or the public, had already decided to hire the offense of coordinator of the Buffalo Bills, another Brian, a white Brian. And somehow or another had that decision had already gotten out to coach Belichick of the Patriots and others, in essence violating the Rooney rule they had already decided internally that they were hiring somebody else, but they were bringing coach Brian Flores a proud distinguished man in for an interview, flying him across the country, even though they never actually planned on hiring him. Coach Flores said today that it was deeply discouraging and embarrassing and frustrating to have to deal with all of that. But it was, it was the turning point in his head, where he realized then and there. Whether I get this coaching opportunity or not, I'm going to have to speak up on the racism bigotry and corruption. That I see that other black coaches have seen, and he suggests in his lawsuit that it could soon become a class action lawsuit with at least 40 different NFL coaches and staffers participating in it, speaking out on the racism and bigotry and corruption that they've had to endure. And so we all put that word all capital letters Bo print highlight underlying large font all of us need to be standing with Brian Flores. "Yesterday, Brian Flores, former NFL head coach of the Miami Dolphins. Did something about as bold and courageous? And hopefully impactful. As anything I've ever seen in American sports, and that's a lot of sports. We're a nation that really worships sports even more than we worship God. And I don't say that loosely. Sports is king in America. And he took a risk. And I want to really unpack and explain for you all. How gutsy that risk truly was. This is Shaun king, and you are listening to the breakdown. The breakdown. The breakdown. Just moments ago I watched multiple interviews that former NFL head coach Brian Flores had on CBS and ESPN. And one of the things that I learned literally just 90 seconds ago was that yesterday while Brian Flores filed a lawsuit against the NFL and also specifically against the New York Giants, the Denver Broncos and the Miami Dolphins for racism and discrimination in their hiring practices. And other types of mistreatment. Yesterday, while he filed that lawsuit, he also had a job interview with the New Orleans Saints. I want to tell you why that is so profound to me. It is one thing. It would always be bold. For an NFL coach or former NFL coach to file a lawsuit a lawsuit based on racism and discrimination and bigotry, he would always be bold for them to file their lawsuit. It doesn't matter if they're ten years after their retirement, or if they never plan on coaching again. But Brian Flores, who was fired from the Miami Dolphins after two winning seasons, back to back. Miami Dolphins have not had two back to back winning seasons in almost a generation in over 20 years. And he had two back to back winning seasons, in spite of hardly having a quarterback and having a team roster that was that was full of holes. To have two back to back winning seasons and.

"Bill Belichick, the coach of the New England Patriots, mistakenly text this guy, Brian Flores, congratulating him on getting the hit coach job for the New York Giants. The problem is, he didn't get the head coach job for the New York giant. There's another guy named Brian. So he takes the wrong guy, and by the way, it was three days before this Brian interviewed for position with the New York Giants. Apparently, complying with the Rooney rule, meaning they'd already decided who they wanted to hire. They already were going to hire another guy named Brian. Brian Belichick didn't Bill Belichick didn't know that. Congratulated this guy for getting the job. Three days before he applied for the job, interviewed for the job, which apparently had already been given to somebody else. Now, in the lawsuit, he says, I'm standing up against systemic racism in the NFL. Says this, the league is rife with systemic racism and it is akin to being run, he says, like a plantation. With the candidate that pretty much everybody seemed to immediately assume was the favorite to be the next head coach of the dolphins. Jim Harbaugh. Is that still an active conversation? How should we understand that theory at this point? Well, I'll say Stephen Ross came out against Jim Harbaugh rumor. Harder than anyone in this organization came out against any Desean Watson rumor earlier in the year. You know, where was this level of response earlier in the season? But I'll do excited. He did. He actually kind of chuckled a little bit. He kind of laughed when harbo was brought up on Monday. And do you have a coach in mind as you made this move? I have no coach in mind at this point. I love Jim Harbaugh. He's at the University of Michigan. That is the school I graduated from and I'm very involved in it, and I'm not going to be the person who takes Jim Harbaugh to the University of Michigan. I hope he stays there. He's a great coach. That is a strong stance to take. That's going to be hard to walk back from if you end up hiring Jim Harbaugh. So I would say that the chances are slim also he is high profile enough of a college coach that to pluck him away from the college ranch that cushy job up in Ann Arbor. You're gonna have to sweeten the deal. Like a decent amount. You're gonna have to pay him fat, first of all, and probably give him some personnel control, which contradicts you keeping Chris Greer on this staff. I would say it's a pretty far odds. Odds makers sit there daily email blast out to the sports media world. And they had Brian Gable listed as the favorite to land in Miami Dolphins job. And I think that's probably makes a lot of sense. And that is a guy you know well, obviously from your time covering the bills, barcel, what should Steven Ross and Chris Greer keep in mind as they evaluate a candidate like Bryan dabel? Yeah, that's my guy, man. I think that's that Brian Abel is maybe my favorite coach that I've ever covered. You know, assistant head or otherwise. Just a genuine person, man. I remember pulling him aside at the last practice. I went to up in Buffalo and telling him that, hey, man, I'm going to be moving from going down to Miami. And, you know, while most people when you say something like that, their first response is going to be like, oh man, that's awesome. All of this, I mean, he just had this solid look on his face and looked me in my eyes and said, is this something that you want to do? Like, is this a good move for you? It's just something that you, that's going to help you in the long run. And I told him I thought so. And then that's when the congrats and the happiness came from. And I appreciated that response, man, 'cause I'm just a reporter here. If he's treating us like that, his relationships with his players have to be unbreakable. I think that, you know, for a guy who was a product of the Bill Belichick Nick Saban system, he is only Bella chicken when the camera is on. You know, and I think he does it on. He does it on purpose a little bit. He knows what he's doing. He's a smart guy, but you know, off camera, he is as personable as they come. He's funny. He's engaging. I think, and he's smart. He's innovative and he's gotten the opportunity to learn what does and doesn't work in the NFL. He's been around for a long time. So wait a minute, Marcel. Now I'm curious if you have any personal advice to offer for one Brian dabel about making the switch from buffalo, New York to Miami, Florida. Keep your coats. Man, keep your coats, not because of, you know, they're gonna get much use here, but you gotta go to buffalo y'all go to New York out of the Boston once a year. Like eventually you're gonna throw them away. Don't make that mistake. And every now and then, when it's raining every single day in the summer, just go look at the code. And be like, you know, I could be having to wear that right now. So let's count our blessings. I'm just kidding, buffalo, you know, I love you guys. Don't we, I mean. Barcel, thank you for risking your Internet presence with us. Audio is the end. That'll probably gonna turn off notifications for the next week. That would be wise. I'm at pavlo Toure and this has been a ESPN daily. I'll talk to you tomorrow..

"Day, the Giants have fired their head coach Joe judge. And I'm trying not not. I'm very excited about this, but not because I don't like Joe judge. He's not an awful person, nothing like that. But keeping Joe judge for another year and I feel like he's just not going to work. Felt like a dead end. It felt like a wasted year next year. And the only argument I think you can make in favor of keeping Joe judge is if there's just no good candidates available to become your head coach and you're like, well, look, the last thing we want to do is hire someone we don't really want for a year within fire and then get the coach who really wants. So if there's nothing available you like, stick with Joe judge. I guess that would have made sense, but now the fire Joe judge, the general manager, Dave gettleman has been allowed to, he retired, which is very honorable, the giant, so not fire him, just let him kind of resign and retire. And I do wonder if Brian Flores becoming available, the former dolphins head coach. You know, because the story was the report was, hey, we're going to keep Joe judgment we're not going to fire him. He's our guy moving forward. So the Giants were not planning to fire Joe judge. And then I wonder if black Monday came the day that all the coaches get fired, and they were like, oh my gosh. Brian Flores is available? Let's go get him. I think that might have got the gears turning because it wasn't until Tuesday that Joe judge got fired. And, man, you look at the Giants right now. The Giants have two top ten picks. Number 5 overall pick, and the number 7 overall pick. In theory, you could trade those picks for, say, Russell Wilson, the Seattle Seahawks quarterback, or deshaun Watson, where you get a starting quarterback that's really good and maybe a higher coach like Brian Flores. Now, with Brian Flores, I love the guy. He does not coach the offensive side of the football. He has to get a good offensive coordinator. But right now, if you're a giant fan, these are very, very exciting times. Look, I thought the Giants were going to do nothing. They reported. We're going to keep the coach. We're going to keep the quarterback. We're not going to do anything. And I was like, oh, what? I felt horribly sad because.

Dolphin's Coach Brian Flores: We Want Players With 'High Character' on the Team

"Is from a threat over the weekend from charles robinson who said sources telling yahoo sports. The dolphins have emerged as the front runner in trade. Discussions with texans quarterback shawn watson. The texans are seeking three first round picks in two second round picks in negotiations according to a team that dropped out of the trade talks robinson saying sources the panthers broncos and eagles also in some element of trade considerations. Watson's contractual right to approve. The trade destination was signed off on by a houston ownership in his last extension has weighed heavily in the trade opportunities. Sources said that teams have angled for pick protections in any trade to mitigate a potential nfl suspension or criminal prosecution tied to ongoing investigations by the fbi harris county prosecutor and houston pd into sexual assault allegations from multiple women. Now this tweet is in direct retaliation or a result of what was said publicly by the dolphins and brian florez when he was asked yesterday about the trade speculation for dishonor watson and brian. There are a lot of things way when we're making decisions fit on the team overall talent salary cap when we're talking about a player or players were always trying to do. What's best for the miami dolphins. There are a lot of variables we want. We want a group that is tough. Smart competitive loves to play in his team. I those other types of guys we're looking for. We have a high standard for the people we have in the organization. We want people with high character throughout the building.

Tua Tagovailoa vs. Belichick's Defense: A Challenge

"Get into the Dolphins. Now we have to start with to Greg. I watched him last week and I see a number of very good things from him, you know, the answer the anticipatory throws is great anticipation is accurate and he's really smart and you know football IQ is through the roof when you see him, he's diagnosing what the defense is doing and the first time around you might surprise him. It's very difficult to surprise in the second or third time around very smart guy doesn't have the strongest arm in the world, but he can move around in the pocket a little bit and he's got enough Armstrong. Had a downfield but I mostly pay attention to his accuracy his anticipation in his intelligence. I think that's what would separate too from some of the other younger quarterbacks that we've seen come into the league and so it's fascinating Greg this matchup. I remember we talked about the Justin Herbert matchup Belichick's record his resume against rookie quarterbacks or even just your quarterbacks first time in so we're going to have to who was very football Savvy and has a high football iQ going against Bill Belichick who of course has the Mind against rookie quarterbacks wage. What do you make of to his game in? What do you think the Patriots will try to do on Sunday to Rattle him. I'm looking at I thought you did a great job with your Scouting Report. I thought you know what I agreed on all those points, especially, you know, I think where he shows off to me is the football like you he he sometimes he will hang on to a play a little bit too long. I think that's probably a place. Where they've been working with him, he did that a couple of times against Kansas City, you know, but largely had a feel for what's going on. He knows how to get rid of the ball. I think Chan gailey's done a real nice job with him sort of slowly bringing him along and you know, yes, everybody's going to talk about Bill Belichick and his record against rookie quarterbacks, you know, but one thing you have to keep in my practice, you know, this is this is a rookie quarterback with Brian Flores, you know next to him who's so I assume Brian all week is showing him all Patriots film and say look, this is what they're going to do to you. This is this is what we would do to everybody. These are going to be the calls whatever you see don't trust your eyes before the snap. There's always going to be somebody dropping there's going to be they're going to be doing this song. I think that's going to be a huge asset for them. I think that Ted Karras at Center is going to be a huge asset for them cuz he knows how the Patriots, you know like to pressure cuz he's been here for so long. The Patriots know his weaknesses. Teddy's a pretty good pass protector. He struggles more in the Run game. But I do think you'll see the Patriots try to try to get him to move his feet side-to-side off a little bit slow. So I think you know targeting him with some t e stunts inside and things like that might generate some pressure. But yeah, I think I think that too is pretty good job to see if guys like DeVante Parker and get sick e who who, you know, we're beat up in the last game, you know, whether they'll be able to play because your talent talking about some really talented guys there. I mean God, I can't believe how far gesicki the tight end has come and I know Belichick basically called him a big wide receiver this week, which I think is accurate but he's damn good at what he does in a mash-up. Yeah and the one question and you know, we'll get into our picks and a little bit before we get this n'keal Harry thing you want to talk about and of course we still have the member question of the day on this pod. But you know the weapons right for Miami, we we talked about the weapons about the Patriots all the time. But when you look at the weapons of Miami, I think last week I saw something that too was down at one point in that game. He was down his top six receivers. So including Titan including tight end. So if you know if Grant is out if Parker is out if they're just you know off 60% if you know kasicki is out Myles Gaskin was on the covid-19 this last weekend, that's their guy who they've been running the football with what is it Ahmed salvano salvano, may I forget which way it goes his name, but he's the other running back on the roster. He's been dinged up. So this is a team if they're banged up. I don't know what they can do offensively. I mean, I like to a long shot, but the one thing that jumped out at me watching that Kansas City game and maybe it's just because Kansas City is so full of explosiveness and speed but the one thing that jumped out at me watching the Dolphins offense It's Not Dead. Dynamic like say they don't have explosion and DeVante Parker could be that guy at times but he's been banged up. He's got a hammy so I don't know if he's going to play but they lack if there's one thing they need to add immediately to that Miami offense to help to a is somebody who can be

Miami Dolphins zeroing in on Brian Flores

"The story broke yesterday. That the Miami Dolphins job, which is the last vacancy, right? That the insider to get the job was New England's defacto defensive coordinator, Brian Flores, now there've been a lot of talk about this Dallas assistant coach. What's his name, Richard Richards, who's African American of being in line to get the Miami job? So when it was announced Brian Flora's apparently is going to get the job Clarence hill who covers the Cowboys for over twenty years said the richer got screwed over. And apparently, the NFL is now over when it comes to hiring, a black coaches even added the line does Colin Kaepernick cab job. Well, immediately clear and sills tweet was met by people saying, do, you know, Brian floors is an after many people posted a photo of Brian floors. And by the way, it's a great story floor as you grow up in the projects in New York. It's been with the patriots organization started as a scout wral obviously elevated to defensive coordinator Clarence dill finally responded by. Saying my bad on Bryant Flora's. It's been a bad day. All ran a lost my driver's license on my company credit card. I'm checking into my LAX hotel and going to bed. That's a good idea Clarence because again race baiting in the NFL. I don't know is productive. But there are going to be a lot of questions. No question Kerry about a season, which five African American head coaches were fired and maybe not even official about floors right now. Right. One will be hired. What are what are your thoughts right now about the current state of the Rooney rule is it necessary and just the general view of who should be hired who's should be in line for these NFL head coaching job? Well, the Rooney Rooney the Rooney deal is I guess it's it's necessary. I think we have to have equal opportunity and have people give people of color have a chance to get a job. I mean, I think that's absolutely necessary. But I also think that situations like this. This sets it back. Right. You have a guy that's popping off about a situation that he really doesn't know you have to actually research stuff, you have to actually get to the bottom of what's going on before you actually tweeted out somebody who's in his position who's been there for twenty years twenty year doing NFL for a long time. It's not know that Brian. Patriots. I didn't know who he was. That's that's pretty sad on his part. But yes, the rule is necessary. But I also think the necessary they most qualified guys to get the job also believe in that as well. I don't think you just give somebody a position because of color or race or gender or whatever the case might be. I think the most qualified person gets the job. But yes, Rooney rule is necessary. Well, I think the Arizona situations. What really started a lot of people you hire Steve walks in a situation where you're bringing in a rookie quarterback. And it doesn't work. It's a disaster. They go three and thirteen coming off an eight eight season, right. And they fire him. He's not the first guy that's been a one and done guy s p Carol. He was a one and done guy with the New York Jets. So a lot of people have been one and done guys. But because he's African American, and then you go out and hire cliff Kingsbury, right? Who had a losing record at Texas Tech who has no track record of being a winning head coach that's worthy the alarm bells. Are going off. Absolutely. Yeah. You can't like like, I just said you have to hire qualified people do to do these jobs. This is the business where it's all about winning. It's about putting the product on the field and that product has to win. So if you're bringing a guy like Kingsbury a guy who you just said lost in college got fire thirty five and forty. Yeah. He's he's not he's not a winner. Bye. Bye. Bye. Winning standards. He's not that guy yesterday to bring a guy like that coach, Patrick Mahomes coast, Patrick Mahomes, but anybody goes in record, right? So for him to come in there right after that fire, and that's just not a good look for Arizona. Yeah. The one and done doesn't make a lot of sense to me. I mean. Yeah. Ended up having to pay the guy off. Anyway, I think that one season for any coach really isn't very fair. We're in the Geico Fox Sports radio studios. We talked a lot about games today. There's a couple of charger guys out here that are really anxious about tomorrow.
