"A pretty quiet week long. Because i can already tell you know what i said before the week. This is going to be a little longer show but josh start me off what. We'll we'll try to pick up a little bit. Byron jones like good morning football on thursday and he actually sent some pretty great things about the defensive unit. He he added that perspective. Like i said about the trusting. Whatever brian floors and chris greer do whether it's in the draft or whether it's an a game day scenario byron jones had this to say when you look at the defense sixty to seventy percent are all do. A lot of us did play together last year. I think that is a credit to the front office and the coaching staffer. Picking the right people. This staff is such a beautiful job of identifying who belongs where and how. His team can really get going quickly which has been a blast to see. He added that. I've never been around anyone as good as xavien. Howard and finally he said he stands by decisions code for his makes the headed five. I don't think anybody has really shown a great. Feel for just like game by game situations as brian flores so far this season and clearly his players seem the same way one hundred percent. I mean it just goes again the testament to pry floors and what he's building here and you hate to use the word culture but it is a different culture. These players are buying. And you know whether it's that high priced free agent like a byron jones. You know whether it's zacks dealer schedule. I mean whoever. It is the miami dolphins you know they seem to get it done. And they seem to buy Against has mental. Brian floors is doing and who's going to see here in question. What brian floors is doing. And what he did with the quarterback situation even us whether or not we agree that we should that they should have made that decision at the end of the day. Brian floors did it. And we trust and what he did and it worked out on some injury news today that they did report. I guess they broke. You know before that game. So we're not gonna hear this last injury report for the day. Devante parker questionable. Jackie grant questionable solomon kinley questionable and defensive end shaq lawson is also questionable. So again we've seen with these Injury reports can go a little bit of either way. We know that all these players practice throughout the week but we know how big of a important factor devante parker is this offense how bad the dolphins desperately need that wide receiver one and again which kim grant does so And we talked about shaq lawson last week so we can use all these guys this weekend. A must win game against buffalo. And you know we'll see the way it shakes up. But i think all four of those guys will likely play again in this one game. That's incredible after the injured keen. Grant head. I think early in the week a lot of people were saying. He's already out so the fact that he's even questionable and the fact that if we're going to use the p. word i think we've made it twenty minutes without saying play all sorts of kind of special in itself but i mean grant looking like if it's not this week it'd be the playoffs that it's great to have Josh everything here is pretty self explanatory. But i do want to ask you this. Solomon kinley has started thirteen games for the miami dolphins. If he returns you put him at right. Guard left guard. Obviously he was moved to left guard aired flowers when donald the injury and clearly. He's a better play at left guard about saying his bed at right guard but that's where he really seems to make his money. Just where do you place him if he's ready to go this week. That's a great question and it's a good question happy because we know this offensive line. I mean michael look pretty well playing at guard a little bit. So i think we're gonna see solomon killing back there on the right side but i think you're right. I mean he has played well on the left. But i think they like eric flowers air and who can blame them really but a again. This is a must win game in a lot of people. Continue to ask about preston williams. And i don't think preston williams i mean i don't know there's nothing concrete but i don't think anyone should expect to see preston williams again this year unless you know the unicorn shows up in the playoffs. You know who's to know what happens but a lot of people keep asking and right now. Preston william is on injured reserve. And you know there's no he's not gonna come back for the foreseeable future. Yeah usually with something like that. There's a little bit of rumblings. You know a couple of weeks before isn't just one day. The reporters are sitting there and feels preston williams at practice that that's not really how these things develop so it looked like he is going to be done for the rest of the season and the dolphins have one more year to really have pressing williams be under that magnifying glass. And see what he can offer to this team. Obviously i. I think you should buy one of those. Chambers t o had remember when the eagles oron. Let's get him one of those crazy like superman chambers in and get him back for this postseason ron. Te'o style that. I would love to write stories about that..

"They moved him out and had another corner in there and they're better at the corners and they were the first time they've played and jamal adams hopeful that that guy he made some plays he did yes just down by the goal line. That was a game right there. He chases down henderson tackles him hurts his ankle. Not only they screw them up for that. Play that kid. He's on ira right now and they're already down on backs and then they the rams go. I didn't like the play calling there now. It's always easy to say. Mike when you get stuffed and twenty twenty hindsight and all that. But that you can't get a yard in a game like that. I don't know if you deserve to go anywhere. Well it's like. I said the play linebackers. I just two different level for for for sunday's year it's really hurt them on talking about show. Now and in the goal line now they were downhill in the back. They stopped and now they've made some really nice tackles and they should it really nice I know the defense alliance getting a lot of headaches in terms of you know criticism but those linebackers just haven't been making the plays. They need to make an they. Did they did that. And it's really showed up in the goal line like you said they were downhill on them. But here's the thing about going on offense anymore. These new wave coats all these young guys. everything is zone. You know it's an outside zone inside zone down around the inside the three two two yard line right right and that stuff just doesn't fly. You get knocked back because there's no those. Db's four five yards off the ball and you got basically nine man front there so you gotta be able to run power football. You know you'll be able to pull guards knocked down double team and without double teams down there. You're just not gonna survive in the in the running game and run outside the tight in in the goal line bus left yesterday. That always seems really stupid to me down there. There's no time for that. And and even that and pulling people guards and stuff and all that i. I never saw a guardian the perimeter down there. And there's they're not backing up the secondary. Just poser trigger. They're they're on it. It's too congested. You have to run if you got to run in between the tackles you just power football leads whatever you gotta do but the zone stuff running outside down. There is pretty hard because stops latin. Yeah yeah has been always has been always hasn't changed. That's the thing in football. It's just unless you get four guys and spread way out. That's the only other thing you could do. You know yeah going back to the afc picture. Now i know you were smiling. When you're fits came into game for miami and and it was a what do they call. It fits magic right answer. Whatever you call it. It worked and brian floors is looking better and better every week. Now yeah. he's not a relief pitcher though he just doesn't eight different teams and you know the the worst thing he's got going for me six one. He looks like he should probably be selling jewelry. Down the mall or something. But he's he's just a nondescript looking guy he's very smart it's got beautiful armies accurate. He's everything he wants quarterback. He just doesn't. He's a six four six five or four. You know so all those things that are kind of invoked sa who is you know and all he does is just win and he's made bad teams better but they want something better than him. Always my guy. Is he one of those guys that in a situation like he came in against the raiders.

"Lost on Sunday to the Miami Dolphins, but the mechanics that went into losing by 12 points, mostly an afterthought for most of us, Ah, more interested in the fight, and namely the role being played by my Miami Dolphins head coach Brian Floors who was right in the middle of all of it, running toward the bangle sideline to stick up for his guys Now, I guess if your Bangles saying that may bother you from my perspective, I loved it. It is a former player think when he sees a head coach getting in mid getting getting mixed up in a fight like that, or you loved his players Absolutely loved. Especially. Look, you're Brian floor, assuring your second years a coach, you're so trying tow build that culture in your locker room, and guys were trying to figure out if you're the right coach and all that sort of thing, and he has a fan bank, But there's my any fans ever saying I don't know if I like my coach storm in the field, but I guarantee you The players like that, because he's he's he saw what he thought was a B s moving. It wasn't like it was planned or choreograph. His natural instinct was I'm gonna go have my guys back in the players. Certainly, Look, I brought this up to you off there. There was a shot that the CBS camera showed after the fight. He's back on the sideline, and he's standing there and one of his players Lynn Boden, Who loves to fight who loves a fight. Former Kentucky Wildcat comes up to him, and he tries like fist bump with him. And Brian Floor is just kind of looks at him like I'm still the coach, right? Exactly what one of your guys, I'm not still the coach, not boys. You're a player. I'm a coach. I had my natural instinct to protect my guys. But yeah, it Z. I'm glad he did. That He had sent the message of okay. We're still a distinct difference between The coach and the players also thought it was interesting. When you look at the wide shot, the Bangles offensive line about that remain seated. Was that that was that telling or was very telling. Bad Bangles and the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday at Paul Brown Stadium Kick off at one o'clock. Pregame coverage on 700 WLW begins at 905 with Rocky Boy Min. A Mohagher looking for more comfort in your.

"He tore his a C l and remember you played in the postseason game with a partially tornado. Yeah, it's a partially franchises. Fault. Yeah, definitely step in there. You don't want to play any any Tor is a CEO in the game. And you're just telling. All right. Well, let's see how well they play Seattle. I want to say it with Seattle, but it was, like, all right. Never mind that That was that was a bold take. But it's not. It's not happening, but a couple years later, because they continually did it in high schools. They continually do it in college. It was only a matter of time before NFL team said, You know, I'm gonna draft that kid. I'm gonna give him a shot to be my guy. And it started with Lamar Jackson, who was amazing, took a Ford progressive coach like John Harbaugh. And really Ozzie Newsom, who was there, general manager at the time to see it. On, bring it to the league. And then he wins. E M V. P. And then Kyla Murray gets drafted by Cliff Kingsbury simply gets that job because Kyla Murray is gonna be the number one overall pick that season and look where he is. I mean, there's an argument for Cliff Kingsbury to be coach of the year this year. Right? Not gonna happen, because blind Brian floors will probably win it. But we get a little of my common that I missed yet true true the tree but you usually get coach of the year when you exceed an expectation. So precipitously right that it just it stands out. Nobody thought that Brian floor as the Miami Dolphins were going to be at six and three right now, game out of first place in the thought they'd be better. But now I'll give you that. Nobody saw saying any any made the decision to bits of popular veteran and John Fitzpatrick to go with the young kid and to, uh, who's done nothing but get better each and every week. You know what's amazing to you Think about that. The timeline of You know, Usually there is a slower transition to whatever it might be when there's a complete overhaul in philosophy, right? It just it trickles it. It doesn't just flow in right here, right? But think about the one year different So Lamar Jackson was one name away from being a second round. Pick one name away. And then one year later. The guy we're talking about now goes first. Overall. That's right, So the door's wide open. It's wide open now, so if you have a new offensive scheme or or play caller or head coach Who believes in it. It's it's changing its you see, you're going to see this type of offense. Maureen Maureen the NFL now to help because there's Mork kids playing this way in college, and Kyla Murray is going to be their example. They don't need to be. You know, 63 or 66 like Trevor Lords and be that prototypical, you know, pocket passer to make it in the NFL. You can be 5 11 or 6 ft. Harvard talk ill of Murray is 95 would have definitely not six. Ever. It is. You could be that guy and not want to change position. Remember that conversation was Yeah, he'll play in the NFL. He just got to play. You know, Wide receiver will be a kick returner. Ruby was gonna stick with baseball. Be honest until we had him on the show of the Super Bowl. That's what you and I both surmised he's playing football didn't divulge on the show. That's right. But up until that point And and I was still kind of married to the the older, the antiquated, you know, mindset like a lynch. The prototypical quarterback size man is good, but boys small, um, at that point other there's gonna go to baseball. But you see what you see these kids in college doing it all the time. D cells deep. How did my anger at myself teeth dear King of Miami Mean Dude, There's a bottle baby throws. The nice ball in the pocket obviously is great with his legs as well. Two weeks ago, we had 550 all purpose yards and five touchdown. Those at the instance. Take aim. Yeah. Against NC state. I mean, it tells you enough about, you know their defense if they say still dead, but still, he still did it, so it's changed Power. Murray is the example that all these kids were looking to right now, saying, Yep, I I can get into the league playing this position, not, you know, playing some of the position I can get in the league play in this position and the beauty Of of us. You know, talking about that guy is if we could have him later on in the show, Which is gonna be fun because I can't wait to talk to him again. It's been awhile since the Super where we had him and we will have calamari on the show today, which is awesome. And you know he's listen. Allow these things we could get to the next Gen stats. And, you know he hits this top speed, And he's been contacted 72 times less than the more Jackson which is actually a stat up where he is, in terms of you know, this point versus the more at that point during the Moors NGPC. I mean, just, you know, go to any website, you could find the stuff, but what you can't quantify. But you know if you watch the Cardinals is he's got poised and he's got that slow heartbeat that every team craves and chases. He does not get flustered. Nope. He's just chill. He is an assassin. He is unbelievable. Wow, what a game really was alright, teak. We're going to get to his taking meds. We have column or a little later in the show. We'll get to a by the way the n betrayed. It's it's happening. CP three He's been rerouted. I think it's a great move. We'll get to Dustin Johnson will get the braiding the Bucks back with an impressive offensive display and coming up.

"What i thought they would. They played the run. This is exactly what you would be doing if you're a defensive. Quarter going up against a rookie quarterback starting his first game. Take away the run forces guy to beat us through the air. They played the run. The dolphins played right into their hands of the ball a ton a lot more than they normally do and it put to it in these terrible situations where the he was in third down. Almost all day wasn't able to convert on these third down passes because it was obvious passing situations. Luckily for them they had a big lead so it didn't end up being factor. Is that why. I mean i got interject here. Okay yeah of course they. They were up pretty big up significantly double digits early at so that dictated that may be if this was a a back and forth game that would not have been the play calling but instead they just decided. Hey our defense. Obviously as a game plan for this what we can't do is be out here. Throwing pick sixes making mistakes. Whatever obviously you wish they would have more trust but when you've got a kid back there that's just for start. Let's just play it close to the vest. Let's run the ball. Let our defense get some rest. Get them back out there. We feel good about our defense today. We got this lead. You know if we get caught we get caught. But we're not gonna let we're not. It's not going to be because of our offense foolishness. There is probably a little bit of an element of that in the third quarter of the game. I will admit but in the first half of this game The for the first quarter was seventy-seven. Right like this this dolphin. The dolphins were behind seven. Nothing here. this was not like a blowout from the jump. There was a couple of key plays in that second quarter that made this game more for blow. Nobody scored a single point in the third quarter. So there's a touch of that too. What you're saying but the reason that i took out the fourth quarter and i could've done this analysis taking out the the third quarter as well is just that. Yes maybe there was a chance that brian floors said i got these guys defensively. You don't need to do a lot offensively. Let's be more conservative. But i fail to see the rationale of just simply saying let's do things that are terrible on early downs To start to game the first half of the game so that we put our rookie quarterback in third in obvious passing situations. And i don't care that he throws up on himself in those situations. Because i got a good defense like that to me is just not not a a good game. Plan a recipe for success. I think that brian floors wanted to come out and have an outstanding result in his first game. Here it was important. You've alluded to this many times. About how good. Justin herbert and these other guys have looked so it was important for them to get to the win. But you need to also get to feel uncomfortable. And i'm just thinking moving forward like next week's game out in arizona. They're four and a half point underdogs k. You cannot approach this things with a white gloves. Only treatment of tula in the first half of this game. You cannot say. We're going to run the ball on early downs. Even though are rushing offense sucks. They lost myles gaskin. He's now injured. So we got a backup running back in there now and we're going to run the ball and keep to a hands off until we need them on third downs or maybe in the second half. It's not going to work for the miami dolphins at all. In my opinion they cannot enter this game. Expect to win.

"This defense is pretty good I. Think Brian Floors has done a really good job. This secondary is very solid, Jared Goff on the road so on and so forth it's not a bad weather game or anything like that but. I man it's a game that. These are the things that Piss me off in sports betting is you get a spotlight this you isolate a spotlight this multiple weeks ago, and for one reason or another it gets hijacked you know and it's this. It's maddening is so frustrating like new, Orleans and Chicago right another bad weather game Joe Breezing to do shit and bad weather at least I don't think so what the saints can actually run the ball. So maybe they just rely heavily in the running game and I don't know what the bears offense does. It's like every game every game I could find something I like about one side at somebody about the other side and I'm GonNa have to sit there and decide which one of those angles means more to me and I wish I could just play totals in the circa. That would I mean. So instead of sixty percent hit seventy. I wish the one thing I will say. Shame on me for liking this. I'm probably going to take Denver and it would I would. Three overreaction died I mean how the hell do you lose a game by twenty seven when you had like a hundred and fifty yard edge I mean it was. Can't I bet the yonder obviously like an idiot by got ahead of a line move because the snow. But how in the hell is Kansas City score forty, three points from they didn't even convert a third down didn't even gained three hundred yards Kamath not offensive touchdowns helps you but still I-. Denver I would be a picked for me I'll tell you this. This goes surprise. You I like Baltimore this week I'll lay the number.

"You can't tell One thing I would say is that I walked through, even in a practice very seldom, with a ball ever hit the ground. When that the offense is humming. They were balls hitting the ground on the walk through him like why's the Why's the ball is going to get a complete and that you know, I'm thinking, Debo miss practice all week, you know? George was out. DeBose really not practiced at all. He came back that week by the Philadelphia game practice Wednesday. Thursday, Friday, walked through Saturday this past week. You didn't do anything Wednesday, Thursday Friday. And then Saturday, he was well enough to come back and they thought he was. You know, he was sick and you never buy protocols. Covert U Can't let him around the team because he made me positive. So I think that I'm just thinking they're just off here just looks a little weird, but most jumped in, and I thought most is going applied and didn't think he would. And he was limping a little bit. There was a ball CJ through behind him. He had to go on his back it to make a catch. Watch him when he gets up. And he hobbled over the sideline that come back into the game. But I was worried about him. So what, Jimmy, I think that's just you know, you've got one player. Saying, I'm not good enough to go and it's a hamstring. You know it's a different injury. But if you tear that thing you're done your season's don. There's a contract involved. There's a lot of things here. With Jimmy. He's more of the linebacker mentality. I mean, he stayed in the game in New York after hearing that angle right away. He's hobbling around held at halftime of that game. He didn't want to come out. It's just the mentality. He has. Time that you know the captain of the ship, and if we're gonna go down, I'm gonna keep playing on the Titanic. This is the way Jimmy is. But we could tell the first throw that third and six He was off and there were several throws. Where he did not have his lower body at all. But I think the plan Wass We need Jimmy's acumen. We just need our leader back worth the crossroads of our season and they see the schedule as well as everybody else, and we need to win this game. We need to go three and two and not fall to two and three. And the plan is to run the ball. We got most of it back, and we're gonna run behind this dominant offensive line that last year. When the other team knew and everybody in the stadium new and all the millions of people watching on TV knew were going to run the ball. No one could stop it. We'd still run right through them. Look at the Vikings. Look at the Packers. It just was it was they were Unstoppable. Now they're being stopped. And Trent Williams. You know, I gushed over him all off season and fond over him. When he came on the air the couple of times you're the best tackle I've ever seen and Where is that guy? That guy? I mean the fourth and won the 1st, 2nd and 5 And then you Now you're behind the down and distance. And now, Brian floors, Khun screw with you, and he's going to bring pressure. He's going to come in the age gap is going to come on the edge. He's gonna overload it. He's going to cause a bust. Where you got a middle inside linebacker Jerome Baker going right through the A gap. Nobody touches him and Jimmy gets blasted. You get outside backer on a tight end in a mismatch and Jimmy got Jimmy took that hit right in the back of his jersey up by the name plate. I thought this he could be out that would look bad. So I mean, you think you're criticizing two different sides of the argument here? You're criticizing Weatherspoon. If you're you know, Chiyo and solid would've played Weatherspoon Witherspoon, but healthy. He wasn't healthy. He said he wasn't healthy. He decided not display at the start of the game, and then he got better. On the sidelines either just got better organic, clear the events of the game. It was time to break glass. We've got an emergency here and he came into the game. So you're making You're criticizing from both sides. You're criticizing a hurt player for not playing, and then you're criticizing a hurt player for playing. So I mean, both more. I'm or criticizing because they know the personnel better than anybody so Let's go back a little bit further, which is at the receiver position when they thought they were light. They tried to get Austin. They got hurt, but they got some new on the defensive line. When they got thin. They went, got a veteran and answer again who didn't work out Dion Jordan. What I'm saying is, is that and look all these corner injuries happened fast as faras. You know, Concussions are very difficult. This isn't a perfect argument. But what I'm saying is rather than having Brian Allen out there when you went veteran and other positions. And look, I don't know how good these guys are. I don't know what kind of shape they're in. I don't know if they're hurt, but there's a list of veteran quarters that aren't great, but remain Johnson Desmond to font Prince Amukamara guys like that. Sherman Williams is 37. I get it, Maybe they wouldn't have done any better. But to put Brian Allen out there and to see what happened to him with a good veteran quarterback who targeted him. They just came up short and weren't prepared now. Maybe they couldn't have been. Maybe maybe it just happened so fast with all the injuries they couldn't have been. But they certainly found himself short at the corner position when it other positions When they got hurt. They went out and tried to get a veteran there. Maybe the injuries. A corner just happened so fast, but clearly without the Russias, you said, without afford without a boat without that kind of pass rush, and then to put that kid out there the way that they did. He just got torched, and I really don't blame him because there was nothing he could have done and the only reason he was out there is because he's a big corner. Seattle had an Mi 63 to 15 with 30 foreign charms, but clearly he can't play in the league. That's why I don't know if you could say I think he needs to change his technique. But whatever. I mean, Dante Johnson gave up. Ah, nine route Touchdown. The cost you gay on Sunday night football. And I mean not everybody is going to be Jason Beretta, Richard Sherman or K. Juan Williams or Emmanuel? Mostly, so I, you know, based on what Kyle said yesterday after the game. They're very encouraged about Emmanuelle, mostly. And being cleared Eso. If he comes back this week, you may see them make a change with roster. You know they obviously I'm going to go back on the practice squad. They may make a decision with color, Witherspoon. One way or the other with him. Because, you know, hey, did come into the game later, he did pick up a P I Later in the game. But he was in the mix to be a starter. To start the year and opposite a Sherman. It was between those three guys, mostly Beretta and Witherspoon. Nana Kelly's career is at the crossroads here. There's just no other way around it, so we'll see how they react to it. But they felt like they know all the guys that are on the street. Adam Peters has a whole ready list..

"And right now well, right now, guess what you're a contender for the first pick. Thank Miami, get it. WOULD THEY DRAFT FLORENCE? Sakes you. Now they can't can they I talked to a guy. Actually could now listen I, talked to a guy last night about the about this game coming up with dolphins and a forty niners. and. Mondo Garo me as a great guy and works for the Miami Herald. And he said. That Brian Floors has said that he's not. Ready to play. And that fits gives them the best chance to win fine and Dandy. But Armada said during the whole training camp he never saw two I'm just telling you what he said. He. Never saw to a throw or two that made you say. I. Asked him physically or mentally keeping him off the field right now is a one three team in win. Will it happen? He said that he never saw a wow moment in training camp. Yet fits this said that to mixed throws and physically did he keep can't make that he was farther did too far better. And he actually said that he goes Shaun, I'm telling he goes I'm a little concerned. About going forward, what is it? You know what's holding him back and I said five years from now what's IT GONNA be like? He said, maybe a decent player twenty said. And he said that if they had a top cup top two or three pick. At paraphrase that a top pick excuse me. It wouldn't be shocked. He wouldn't be shocked if they went back to back with the quarterback I'm me if they had the first pick in the draft I, don't think that they'd be crazy to take lawrence because I still think they could trait. was his point was that if to a dozen play did does it lose value for him? No he you'd get a first-round pick from. Yeah. You would. It may not be five or maybe twenty-five, but you still could writing for, but it may it may. You know it's not like he reminded was saying something he's not hot. Take Guy. been so I found it interesting. So we kid about that about the Texans about Miami getting another pick of the Texans where to get the first pick or a top three pick it goes to the dolphins right And you're sitting there thinking well, man alive..

"The high profile rookie as we talk about to Tonga Bi-lo and the question is should he start this season? Well they may have all sorts of reasons not to start him right off the bat if they were planning to because they open against the Patriots and the bills who were one and two in defense as far as points allowed last year. So Bobby does that influence in any way. You think you're thinking if you're the dolphins as to whether or not to start the season I and four short to make sure that he's going to be healthy and that he understands what's going on and the expectations of what he's going to have to do out there and so naturally try to look at their schedule and try to find a point slide in so it's the beginning. Okay that's tough. We can go with veteran. Their passions played against teams won't necessarily be intimidated by looking at the end of their schedule. You've got New England Kansas City. You've got buffalo there. Three of their last four games. So it's not like you can slide him in after the bye week at the end of the season and feel good about it at some point. They're just gonNa tell the band aid often they feel like the season's is what it is and then begin to move forward with him because I don't see a natural landing spot where you could put you in there and say. Hey here's a couple. Easier games against more manageable defenses. Brian floors now push your in. And he'll be okay to go. Why do you think lowest? Does he play this here? I don't think I think they really regardless of the scheduled. Greenie need to go ahead and give him this redshirt year in two thousand twenty unveil him in two thousand twenty one. It's just too hard to sit there and try and pick and choose where we kind of take the cover off and put him in there because look it looks good right now. It may look good right now as far as trying to project who are going to be the easy games we were going to be the games but we know that the season changes very quickly teams wind up being strongest change in weaker than we projected. So I think for you just need to take a blanket. Approach and say look barring catastrophe. We're not we're not ambivalent him until twenty twenty one all right much more on the NFL schedule as we continue but coming up we have a big.

Why won't NFL teams hire minority coaches?

"Three head. Coaching spots have been filled this week. But none of those. Three coaches were minorities while the Rooney rule has been followed. Some are beginning to believe that minority forty candidates are not being taken seriously for the open jobs and anonymous African American. NFL Assistant Coach said that the League has quote finally shown. It's not the place as for black men to advance. It's ridiculous it's disgusting. We can sell tickets and make plays but we can't lead Shannon. Why isn't the Rooney rule role working? Well I think until skip this diversity thing yeah. Diversity is a great great to talk about but until you get someone the leadership position that says you know what. I don't just want to talk about it. I want to be about it so until you get older ships that actually wants to put some substance to this and this is what that you're GonNa get now if the general manager there's one general manager that's what minority and that's CR- Chris greer in Miami. There's zero owners that are it shouldn't say minorities. I guess because shot con radically a minority. But when you get the gist of what I what. I'm trying to say until leadership gets more diverse. You're I'm not gonNA have a more diverse hiring background skills. This was puzzling to be. Is that Eric. Enemy has the exact Zac job that Matt Nagy had negative and call plays any recall. Please man they can get the job. Doug Peterson sedinko plays true. Recall to play around Rivera's on but Ron Rivera was not the defensive coordinator in Philly. He he became a D. coordinator what's he got to the D. Coordinator in Chicago. You are you in San Diego. Yeah but he got his getting these enter coaching tree. Eric B enemy has the exact same job. That Matt Nagy Doug Peterson has and he's not getting opportunity is spirit but this. I don't really think that they go into it. Unless you incentivize this. Okay if you how minorities kill we maybe you have an extra three to five five dollars and cap space. That's the only thing that resonates with these owners because I get it skipped if I spent three billion. Let's just say I spent three billion dollars for a restaurant run. You Go tell me what the hell I need to cook. Cook whatever I WanNa Cook it there. And that's how they look at it. Jerry Jones spent money for this. This this mind you oh tell me why should get killed but but this notion that Oh and they brought Muhiba Marvin Marvin Lewis. He brought him in to to do that. Situation wasted the same with the giants the giants they had irebi enemy. They what Joe Judge Chris Rashard Rashard. Excuse me Chris Restoring. Yeah so now. Now we're down to one. Vacant Cleveland Reunion. I'm talking about how good already know. Angle get no frills JAYCO network skill. He already interviewed there. So you would now now the take my name off the leader and solid rubber solid. Take my name off the list. Because he's GonNa get Mad Max two and a half years if you're lucky that seems to instead that's all Jimmy can stomach now if you look at it they keep these. You look at Mike Patton. You look at all the guys they've had and these guys have had I think. Hugh Jackson stayed the longest at two and a half years. But everybody's been two years the list huge only two and a half two and a half long but you get you get these other guys you get pretty kitchens and you look at patent and you look at a I forget. Just give all these one year jazz. WE ACHE AAC CLEVELAND. That in Cleveland of the North this skill ruining rules a joke. I get it. You know minorities Cadillac. An affirmative action thanksgiving. Yeah but in -firmative action. I guess it's federal dollars. You'RE NOT GONNA get the money if you don't do this. The NFL is a is a private entity. So what can you do. What Ki- what can you give? Nfl Do not the so. I have been tracking this for a long time because one of my best friends is John. Wooten who is now the retired leader of the Fritz Pollard. Alliance and he was the driving force behind instituting the Rooney rule as I hiring practice in the national shirow all league and John's point from the start was I just need interviews because if a young assistant coach gets interviewed a couple of times times it gets reported in his name gets out there and if another owner sees that name enough over maybe a couple of years hiring cycles else maybe an owner says chee that guy. He's getting a lot of interviews. Maybe I should bring in. Maybe I should be more open minded to him. But if you're GONNA curse because if I get a a lot of interviews and I'm not getting hired was wrong why here the me getting hired cave liability with that. But John's point in the end was I'd rather have interviews than not have interests. Okay okay so let's go back to the stat that I use last week. The Institute of Diversity and Ethics In sports twenty nine thousand nine racial and gender report card for the National Football Bali. The League got actually an a plus for hiring of color. Assistant coaches right a sit a plot. Oh that's progress right. It got a deep loss for hiring head coach of Color White eight-plus assistance d-plus head head coaches. There's a big disconnect there and it shows you. That owners are fine. Oh hire two or three black assistant fine with that but nope nope. I don't want to head coach to be black. Right gives quite to the restaurant you can cook. You'll be in the bank but Michelle not the bridge. I roll up now okay so when I texted back and forth last we can use this last week of John Wooten just beside himself now. He is devastated by this this development his point was that only one. GM Chris Grin Miami. Point out is use. John's word heartbreaking because it could start with the GM right a black GM of or of color could be more open minded to say to the owner. Hey listen this guy is really bring him in. Let me let me introduce him to you right. The conduit to the owner can be stronger. Iran have I don't know six or eight black. GM right right. We've had them around the league four or but all of a sudden there's a dearth to rape Barma with Barma within Cleveland. He'd Gone Rick Smith who I know very well be in Denver. He interviewed for The Washington. Ashington John Daniel Snyder said head coach could be a head coach. Basically general manager after the Washington like who are the head coaching after the draft. The General Mattis. Okay so sometimes there is group think or shink sheep among the owners because in the end they do want to win right. And if they're looking around the League league and that black head coaches really successful they say well I want one of those. I want to go that direction right well. There was one black head coach who started to have success late in the year ear and he happened to be allied with Chris. Clear in Miami and Brian Floors off the Patriots. Well they started out all time badge for about what seven seven games fifty. Nine seven opening renders and then they basically it felt like they turned the whole roster iside down which they needed to do and then all of a sudden the last nine games they go five and four they upset the eagles and then they went to foxborough and just basically ended the season. I thought for the new New England Patriots playoff teams right. Okay so all the sudden Brian floor floor with the help of Chris greer. They're having big success. It looks like it's headed in the right drug us us but it wasn't enough of a splash to create momentum through the hiring process and right because John Wooden again texted me back with so many names he said we have so many in the pipeline. Who already started with Eric? B Enemy and Chris Rock. I think Chris Shaw Bad Year on defense but when I watch him interviewed when I watch his body language. It's a stunt man he's he's got. CEO Written all over him. He looks like a commanding officer to me. There's not enough black head coaches skip. Because because you look you look at Mike McCarthy guest job he hires the guy that gave him his opportunity coordinator fifteen years ago so you see the circle. We'll skip once you become a head coach. What do you do you go to the combine? You go to say elbow you got your drake. He goes to the coaches meeting and Yada Yada Yada and to connect with the boom boom boom right right. So if I'm not in that Lou. How do I get into loops? Because a rid of staff they said eighty percent of the jobs are never posted so in other worth people get hired somebody a friend or family member is not what you know who you know There in live the roof. It does house so to finish John. Bruton's list of pipeline candidates being AMEE. Chris Rashard Robert Sala. He threw Jim Caldwell on his list. Is Jim Colwell was highly successful zestful. Jim called wheel lost his jaw. Going nine and seven in two years Matt Patricia has nine total win and he's still got a job now he goldwell still doesn't have another job he in four years. He went to the playoffs twice in the last year he went nine and seven and they said well you know we need to move in a different direction. uh-huh and the guy that's replaced has yet to win nine total games in two years. Do you still own a still on the clock. Okay Steve wilks got one shot in time. I'm one year in Arizona and he was gone. He's now the defensive coordinator in Cleveland which probably didn't help his cause this year that much but I don't hear his name no in Cleveland right right on the list. And then there's Terrel Austin who's young stripes potential star coach and John Wootton into his list with Marvin Lewis who he thinks deserves a second shy right. Okay so Jerry. Jones did observe in qualified for the Rooney rule by bringing in. I Marvin Lewis. I think Jerry was shrewd operating waiting there. Because he didn't pick a young like like Chris Rashard type interview him because of Jerry had interviewed a young potential upcoming head. Black coach right. There's more pressure on Jerry. What was wrong with right? What's the problem exactly? He went to Marvin Lewis because he thinks Marvin Lewis is kind of old news right right. He got his longtime time shot in Cincinnati. Listen I still think Marvin did a good job job seriously. Yes okay he went. Oh and seven in the playoffs but still it was Andy Dalton Alton you re you with covering the NFL and you remember what Cincinnati before. Marlene got there was John. Carter number one overall. You Got David Cleland with the fourth. The fourth picket. You got big day to day and Wilkerson purse around the second pick in the draft year after year after a year people. Forget what I know. Marvin didn't win a playoff game. But they weren't even getting close to the playoffs for Marvin got there. No so I was disappointed in Jerry because you know my heart Hartz. I'd love to see Jerry Jones higher black head coach and I think I probably won't live long enough or Jerry will live long enough to know.

"He's kind of falling down the depth chart because the struggle is real but you just to hope the trolls harris can get that production can get some pressure on the quarterback and i mean it's not all doom and gloom because we've heard throughout this off season. Brian floors has a lot of exotic blitz packages. This defense is going to be very creative in the way they get pressure so they really don't need that traditional pass rusher but you do still need some production aid. You're hoping preston williams emerges in your hoping open josh rosen and hang onto this quarterback battle. There's plenty more that we could talk about but again. "They will try to make a move for him as well. It's going to be an interesting five weeks until the NFL draft. Don't expect it here a lot because as you both alluded to at the top of the show. The leaks are not coming out this year, Brian floors, Chris Greer, Marmon Reggie McKenzie are running a very tight ship. And while it hurts us because we can provide you with the inside information because we're not getting as much still getting a little bit. But not as much. As fans as someone who wants to have success in this organization. It's great for the way. They're doing things any last thoughts. Helzer sign. I want to close on Joon James. And this was an yes, you know, what I forgot about two to mention this part because I know there's some juicy stuff on him. Okay. So my brother-in-law his uncle was the offensive line coach at Tennessee with Joon Jane's when he was in school. And I happened to be my brother-in-law's bachelor party when we were had his uncle on speakerphone, and it wasn't that far removed from when we drafted Joon James and basically. My brother-in-law's uncle was for an I'll admit I don't remember what he said verbatim. But the impression that I got was he was a little surprised John James was a first round pick. And. When you kind of reflect back on the situation, we were at an needing tackle fat was you know, Joon James played, right? Tackle his whole career at Tennessee. And that's exactly what we needed, and we were little bit pigeonholed so for people, and I know the offense of line for God's sake. I would love the start. I'd love the stop talking about it just like anybody else. But from a economical perspective and a just kind of building a long-term consistent, winter perspective. I don't think anybody should be that distraught about losing John James. I know it's another whole that we need to fill in the team. But I think this was another decision that the organization got right for me. There's no way the dolphins could match that price tag. I mean, the doll. Did the right thing. You said John James. He's a good player. But that's about where it ends. You kinda know what he is top paid, right? Tackle football. Not thanks. So we will see how this all shakes out moving forward. And also in the latest edition of the Monday morning quarterback last week that has said something with sources about supposedly saying that they were waiting to see which team scooped up John James because. They have to game plan to hide James's weaknesses, and they had to do everything they could and spent so much energy to assign help to him throughout the game. And we saw two we saw mental lapses. We saw physical lapses we saw as really inability to get out in space and lay down the blocks. It just opens another whole unaligned. But like you said sign, I don't think dolphins fan should freak out too much. I think find a serviceable right tackle pretty pretty easily. But you could find someone who's going to get the job done. Just as good as you want. If not better all have tons of holes. Again, that's why I said it's going to be interesting. And it's going to be really really interesting to see what happens if a quarterback or to starts to fall towards that number thirteen pick. If it's and they're going to make the move this year, or if they'll stay put and likely trade down to accumulate more picks. It's too bad in a way. It's. Before we finish is just too bad because we've said on this show, and I had the information, and I said this during the draft and after the draft last year the dolphins and the saints had a deal lined up before the draft. Dolphins were willing to trade back to the end of the first round they were going to get these saints first round pick this year. Had that happens. The dolphins would have had two first round picks this year, and that would have been plenty of ammo to go up and get either Cuyler Merv you false pass number one or Dwayne Haskins starts to fall. Yes. Adults. What have not gone Minka Fitzpatrick who knows who they would have gotten?.

"How we sucked out to enough now that we were out of the doghouse. So yeah. Basically for those who don't know, and I had put a screen shot up there for a little bit. And I deleted. It didn't wanna get anyone in trouble. You know, that it wasn't really sure the whole story behind it. But someone. Had tweeted to me, I forget who it was at this point. But there is a discussion about Brian Flora's. And someone had tweeted to me they tag me in it. They tagged some others in its, and basically it was just saying that Brian floor is leading candidate to be the dolphins head coach. And I think this was on Wednesday of that week or so Tuesday or Wednesday and then a little while later. I get a person who tagged me saying look at Tom Garfinkel, just like my tweet, which was tagging me and others linking to the tweet said Brian floors is leading candidate and medium like, whoa. Why would he like that tweet? So I screen shot at it. Just have it for future reference. I threw it up on my on my feet time. Does follow me on Twitter? So we know he's out there searching dolphins fans are saying about Brian floors and others and the whole organization as a whole getting pulse on the fan base. Which is a good thing to do. And then I tweeted out and then within twenty minutes tweet was. Unliked by Tom. So at the time was like, okay. He's trying. He may be trying to tell us something. He may have slipped up who knows? But this is fun. And at that point. I had heard Brian floors was leading candidate. But I couldn't confirm with another source, and then it just kinda came into focus from that point forward. But it is definitely a game. It stressful and stressful in the sense because. You almost feel a responsibility to report this information out to people and at the same time. You're putting yourself way out there for everyone to see. At this point. You know, I'm looking at my Twitter profile right now, I have over eight thousand followers, and I'm very thankful the eight thousand of you plus want to listen to my nonsense. But when I put something out there, I've realized and I'm not trying to be here and be pompous or whatever, I'm just speaking the truth. But I'm at the point our put something out there. People who follow me and within dolphins, Twitter and little other. Areas on Twitter little other little pockets people run with what I say from now on and I had tweeted something a few weeks ago, and it was an opinion. And it could have been construed as incentive for mation. And I forget what it was. But that's about fifteen minutes. I deleted it. Because I saw some people starting to run with it. And I wasn't really sure that I was comfortable with that being run with. So I took it down. But you know, when I put out that incentive for mation out there. It's run with and if it's wrong, I know I'm going to hear about it. So usually now I need to make sure that I'm really comfortable with what I'm reporting out there. So when it does happen, you know, people can look at me as credible source. And then someone who really does have the inside information someone who does have the scoop, and I do think might trekker does speak for it self. So I'm very proud of that. I haven't missed a ton of I have missed a few haven't missed a ton. And I just hope to continue to. Gain source is moving forward and continue with the incentive for Mason reporting. I know I'm I'm proud dad. And when I see anybody disagree with you on Twitter. I just get a little bit sad inside. I hope everybody will come to their senses your mobile blue haters going to hate all I gotta say speaking of haters gonna hate the patriots are coming as the underdogs this weekend against the chiefs. And they have brought the insufferable level to new highs. Miami Dolphins zeroing in on Brian Flores

"The story broke yesterday. That the Miami Dolphins job, which is the last vacancy, right? That the insider to get the job was New England's defacto defensive coordinator, Brian Flores, now there've been a lot of talk about this Dallas assistant coach. What's his name, Richard Richards, who's African American of being in line to get the Miami job? So when it was announced Brian Flora's apparently is going to get the job Clarence hill who covers the Cowboys for over twenty years said the richer got screwed over. And apparently, the NFL is now over when it comes to hiring, a black coaches even added the line does Colin Kaepernick cab job. Well, immediately clear and sills tweet was met by people saying, do, you know, Brian floors is an after many people posted a photo of Brian floors. And by the way, it's a great story floor as you grow up in the projects in New York. It's been with the patriots organization started as a scout wral obviously elevated to defensive coordinator Clarence dill finally responded by. Saying my bad on Bryant Flora's. It's been a bad day. All ran a lost my driver's license on my company credit card. I'm checking into my LAX hotel and going to bed. That's a good idea Clarence because again race baiting in the NFL. I don't know is productive. But there are going to be a lot of questions. No question Kerry about a season, which five African American head coaches were fired and maybe not even official about floors right now. Right. One will be hired. What are what are your thoughts right now about the current state of the Rooney rule is it necessary and just the general view of who should be hired who's should be in line for these NFL head coaching job? Well, the Rooney Rooney the Rooney deal is I guess it's it's necessary. I think we have to have equal opportunity and have people give people of color have a chance to get a job. I mean, I think that's absolutely necessary. But I also think that situations like this. This sets it back. Right. You have a guy that's popping off about a situation that he really doesn't know you have to actually research stuff, you have to actually get to the bottom of what's going on before you actually tweeted out somebody who's in his position who's been there for twenty years twenty year doing NFL for a long time. It's not know that Brian. Patriots. I didn't know who he was. That's that's pretty sad on his part. But yes, the rule is necessary. But I also think the necessary they most qualified guys to get the job also believe in that as well. I don't think you just give somebody a position because of color or race or gender or whatever the case might be. I think the most qualified person gets the job. But yes, Rooney rule is necessary. Well, I think the Arizona situations. What really started a lot of people you hire Steve walks in a situation where you're bringing in a rookie quarterback. And it doesn't work. It's a disaster. They go three and thirteen coming off an eight eight season, right. And they fire him. He's not the first guy that's been a one and done guy s p Carol. He was a one and done guy with the New York Jets. So a lot of people have been one and done guys. But because he's African American, and then you go out and hire cliff Kingsbury, right? Who had a losing record at Texas Tech who has no track record of being a winning head coach that's worthy the alarm bells. Are going off. Absolutely. Yeah. You can't like like, I just said you have to hire qualified people do to do these jobs. This is the business where it's all about winning. It's about putting the product on the field and that product has to win. So if you're bringing a guy like Kingsbury a guy who you just said lost in college got fire thirty five and forty. Yeah. He's he's not he's not a winner. Bye. Bye. Bye. Winning standards. He's not that guy yesterday to bring a guy like that coach, Patrick Mahomes coast, Patrick Mahomes, but anybody goes in record, right? So for him to come in there right after that fire, and that's just not a good look for Arizona. Yeah. The one and done doesn't make a lot of sense to me. I mean. Yeah. Ended up having to pay the guy off. Anyway, I think that one season for any coach really isn't very fair. We're in the Geico Fox Sports radio studios. We talked a lot about games today. There's a couple of charger guys out here that are really anxious about tomorrow.

"To do. It's in him. Even if it's outside of just Xs and os and football. And this was told to me the week after the patriots lost to the dolphins on that. Final play. The sixty nine yard remarkable play at the end of the game other defeated the patriots. What I was told was that. Brian floor is stood in front of all of his defensive players and said that's on me. And that really resonated with the players. They have great respect for Brian floors, a leadership void here for the patriots. If he goes to the dolphin, you imagine respect, how does Bill Belichick view. Florus? Well, so Bill Belichick was has been grooming. Brian floors who came up through the organization, not starting in personnel. And then as an assistant coach and now the defensive play caller this year. How would he replace him? Usually Bella looks in house or within his own sort of football family. If you will, you know, it is someone like a Gregg giannotti now, it's speculatory. But when they said he wasn't going back to Ohio State to pursue opportunities in the NFL, some connected the dots to Bella check because they're very close someone like that. Or someone in house would generally be the way Bill Belichick with look in a situation. Like this with Kevin Gandhi, Adam Schefter, Jeff leg while both reporting because of differing ideas with new coach Vic Fangio about the team's potential offensive, philosophy and staffing. Gary kubiak will not become the Broncos offensive coordinator. After all the bears of hired former colts coach Chuck Pagano to replace Fangio is defensive coordinator, he inherits one of the league's strongest defenses that includes Khalil Mack..

"This is Matthew cannot adjoin here. My Joshua Johnson. Aaron son the Miami Dolphins continuing their exciting offseason, thus far traveling around the United States and interviewing different head coach candidates over the past several days in over this past weekend's starting off with Brian floors, the linebackers coach defacto defensive coordinator for the New England Patriots followed up an interview with Eric enemy from the Kansas City. Chiefs offensive coordinator there many surprise interview down in New Orleans to talk to Dennis Allen of the New Orleans Saints at defensive coordinator there stopping Dallas to interview Chris or chard the Dallas Cowboys secondary coach and defacto defensive coordinator. Mike munch did not want to interview with the dolphins. He has his eyes are set on the Denver Broncos and the dolphins elected not to interview Vic Fangio. So at this point in time, the Miami Dolphins candidates are down to the following Brian Flora's, Eric b enemy. Dennis Allen, Chris Rashard and Darren Rizzi based on everything that's been reported over the past few days on various media outlets. The three yards per carry podcasts also reporting crystal shard expected to get a second interview. Adam Beasley the Miami Herald reporting, Dan, Bryan floor is expected to get a second edge of you. So far as to even saying that floor is might be at the top of the dolphins wishlist and Darren Rizzi still set to interview, but it is presumed that he will be off shoot. In to the second round of interviews as the first round mainly us get to know the guy who he is. And what he does. And what he's all about. And the dolphins having Darren Rizzi in the building for ten plus years. No exactly who that man is really no sense. And having that I interview so I can safely presume that it is down to three candidates. I'll go stuff further and spray foam that is down to Brian floors. And Chris Rashard, I have a working theory on that. But I do want to bring in sun and how to give their opinions on the coaching. Search us far we've seen some action around the NFL in terms of coaching moves ready. We've seen the Green Bay Packers kind of surprise higher. Weird higher taking the titans offensive quarter. Matt leflore Tim Bay Buccaneers announcing Bruce Arians. Back to the sideline that's going to be a lot of fun to watch with him. And James Winston and the surprise of that all Arizona Cardinals interviewing cliff Kingsbury hiring him on the same exact day. Several vacancies still remain in effect such as the Bengals such as the Broncos the Browns the jets and the Miami Dolphins, of course. Obviously, those seems hoping to wrap up their coaching searches as soon as they possibly can. So this episode Finsider will be all about the Miami. Dolphins coaching search the very latest and what we know. And what we can tell you sign house. It's been a whirlwind of a few days. It's exciting almost. And I caught myself today reminding myself to enjoy the process to enjoy the moment that we're in right now because we know the offseason is coming, and we know it's going to be dead. So as long as the dolphins are relevant, and we're talking about them in an exciting fashion. I think everything is just fine right now. I enjoy connecting the dots as much as anybody else. You know, it's going to be way more important what the staff ends up looking like big picture kind of as a as a singular organism so to speak instead of just head coach. Obviously the head coach is important. But the guys that the head coach brings in is also very important. It does seem like a three person race. I will say it's probably a two person race in my opinion. I will route I will route my ass off for Dan resume of he ends up getting the job. I just don't think he will. So I really think it's going to be about between Chris Rashard him Brian Flora's. And I think both those guys those young guys who. Florez knows our team and Rashard like him coming in working with our secondary site. They both have some pros, and they're young enough that even if they end up being this Lee Harvey Oswald fog, I Pazzi sort of figure for us. They could weather that storm. And obviously if we present any type of tanking any semblance of tanking next year..
