Setv has been on about a done all kinds of voice over work and animation work and just has settled into this great career as that guy. Yeah we brian doyle. Murray is an ultimate backup. He's he's gotten great boardroom. Energy that guy five. Yeah like where you could just. You could imagine him in any he could be the ceo. He could be a lackey. he get somewhere. Put them in a suit he could be. You can see him in any rule of some guy in a suit sitting there. Doing something. And i appreciate the fact that once again. It's a brother who seems to appreciate the fact that his elder brother eclipsed him professionally but doesn't seem to have any bitterness about me. Maybe he doesn't in harbours harbors it and prince private deepest deepest darkest world. Brian doyle murray but but you know publicly. They just aren't seem like this really close tight knit family that you know mill. Bill loves putting brian oil murray and his movies and he loves being kind of the clint. Howard ron howard. Spy speaking of my choice. Oh enjoy fine. Go ahead finish your aching of rock and roll highschool from last week i would say that in my brief experience in second city and an ensemble comedy as a younger person. You find yourself playing the Nuts in the hippie weirdo or the crazy character. And then you start to age and within five years i remember going from majors. My locker facilities flavor. You start going from the herald is talked about this to you you go from being the space cadet crazy character to be the one that brings oil murray. Is everything where. He's the authoritarian news. The person saying all right you guys knock it off you know. Tease the patriarch heavy. And it's no fun because you you play the person without a sense of humor you play the person who has kind of come into kind of shut down the scene. At the end you can scramble. Knock it off you become the the you're the street man you're the sixteen wade becomes an and squashes the scene so so they can go onto something else and boy. It sounds like The character maybe you are going to talk about or the person usually actually plays the weirdo. Yeah definitely clint howard. Younger brother too to ron. Howard ron howard will start off as the more famous. One is obviously famous for his roles as a child actor. So was clint clint. You know on the courtship of eddie's father but also like had voice roles for like famous disney things. He was ruined and in the jungle book. You had like a very like. Oh that is that voice. I didn't know that was clinton howard sort of thing. But then ron howard just had a longer starring role on you..

"Really as christmas themed as the other movies. You mentioned how alone of course. That's definitely christmas louis. Absolutely yes and i j that you'll even go up against bad santa and the terrorists die hard i think. Did you have your most sadistic got christmas movie character outside of the you know. Santa's sleigh encompass and things like that but that did not have to to all of the things that he did to joe patchy and daniel stern in that movie but You know i. It played well played wallet off to make a sequel that was popular and several seagulls. That weren't quite as popular right. But yeah definitely Bought from a more violent version of three stooges comedy for sure. So we said we. We discuss scourged discussed bad santa home alone How about the national lampoon's vacation franchise with christmas vacation very quotable movie there. you know. it's funny. I've never actually seen that particular of vacation film Start to finish the movie. I remember from the vacation. Franchise the best were the original vacation and then european vacation and i love european vacation. That movie with whole area hard task for me. I love the rest of them. I can watch the vegas vacation which was probably the probably universally recognized as the worst between vacation european vacation christmas vacation. Of course Vegas vacation not counting the the rebooted one with Ed helms and christina applegate but You know it's tougher. Be watched those movies because i'm adult adult now. I remember enjoying them. As a as a child at chevy chase in the in the christmas vacation movie in particular is just such a jerk. You'll brian doyle murray blazes boss and his a jerk to everyone at the office except brian. Doyle murray whose rear end he's kissing and they They cannot shoehorn randy. Quaid's cousin eddie character in there. And you see all the memes that the you know the crapper full and You know it's. it's not a bad movie. I like it as much as some of the other people do. But i like die hard. I don't know if you don't consider it a christmas movie. I think that my favorite christmas movie is probably something the lines of either a christmas story or miracle on thirty fourth street. Okay yeah they're not miracle on thirty. Fourth street is one of those classics. By the way. I have to mention just to show you. How old were getting The sexy makeup counter girl or the lingerie girl. Remember in the in the department store and christmas vacation. i think he's sixty five years old now. Oh yeah oh yeah well you know i. I mean all of those eighties teen stars. They're either old or fortunately they're gonna like the blonde from cami love. The patrick dempsey. Sidney peterson was her character's name in the movie and he died probably four or five years ago in her early fifties. If even that no. He wasn't even that she was like forty seven. You know what i need to do. Is i need to go back and watch these movies and chart. You know who's doing what in the present tense. 'cause you know. I want to watch a movie like rad. Ever see that movie It was like a bmx movie around nine. Eighty six or eighty seven. I remember it. i never saw it. I remember the film. Yes lorie laughlin is actually the love interest in that movie at deal now. She's she's doing time or if she's awaiting sentencing or if she's going to get that one day house arrest i can't remember who got it at this point but oh was it was tony larussa tell you got one day of house arrest. During the middle of a pandemic most places are under stay at home orders anyway You know what a what a joke. Our justice system can be for the rich and privileged definitely definitely reply. Forget there's no real way to. Maybe well i can take a transition this a little bit because it has to do with the holidays. I just recently started smoking again. Which is kind of an odd thing because nobody smokes pipes except for like middle aged white guys with beards. Yeah i mean don't you. Aren't you obligated by proclamation. That when you liked that pipe that you have to read the night before. Christmas to a roomful of children. I don't. I didn't think about that. But i definitely thought for sure that you have this big this big like you know scruffy looking beer. That probably looks. Like i haven't watched it in like a week. And maybe have like you know like a haven for five. But that's that's you event in your forties to take up all of a sudden. Because i took it up when i was seventeen years old and san francisco and used to go to. This place called sherlock haven. I just because. I think you know what there was. There's that seen a dead poet's society where all the students go to the cave. And they're smoking their pipes and that got me inspired. I was like they were pretty cool. Smart i should give this a try and it's actually there's actually some unique history with the behind trying to smoke a pipe and there's a lot of work involved you know it's not like just lighting up a cigarette or even a cigar in pipe you have to like tampa thing down and you gotta push the tobacco down after you've gotta run a pipe clear through it to keep its like thirty six.

"Around a while. He's he's right here on the rich Eisen show. Please to have somebody who I've I've I've seen in many a school courtyard since our kids went to school together back in the day to see you. Thanks. Good to have you finally hear. Yes. Absolutely. You got a few my buddies on. Ryan tie with him. Right. You've known him since I was about eighteen we met at an audition for a movie of the week starring Meredith Baxter birney. Of course, it came down to the two of us. And he didn't have a ride home. I had a skateboard and a car. So I gave a ride home, and he never left who got the gig gig. I got the gig. And then he then he got some other gigs on k it'll turn out fine. He's doing fine. You got to have the ties. Extra burning experience of the film. Do you? Remember, the name of the movie trade the story of two women. Neither were played by. What did you betrayed woman, son? Okay. Who I was made. It was me Baxter, Suzy, Kurtz. It was a perfect movie. This one of them make movies of the week anymore man net flicks. Now, there's a movies stream. Yeah. It's it. It has a superhero film. But if it has no superhero movie of the week. Now, you're born you're born and raised in Los Angeles soda born in Minnesota, Minnesota was working at the university. And then I moved to the Lakers you moved here from the Lakers. The Lakers Lakers yet. Being a basketball on your finger. Right. So are you a Lakers fan? Emily cours fan. I grew up. I grew up here in LA going to the forum to see him going Staples. And the Staples. Go to the state. Staples. Exactly as long as my hips, not acting up. Yeah. Laker fan. And yeah. Which there's not much to do right now. I know you were asking Chris we're coming on the the coaching situation looks out and he was out for like five minutes. And then the quick didn't go fast. What do you think of magic just tapping out? Like that man. I don't know, man. I love magic. I I was very very young child watching magic. And then growing up seeing him play actually did a cameo on TV show. I did like I'd love magic that. I don't know what I wish I was smart enough to know. Exactly. What to do? I enjoy watching the hell out of him and stuff. But right. So on a second. So magic showed up on what did a guest about on this sitcom, I had I had it was like all these sports characters in my head. So like if my character is debating whether or not he asked the girl out he turns over and Mills Lane is they're going to do it. Is that for real? Breath. Was there? And so one point it was my characters like, I don't know if I'm a score cut to Bill Walton standing there going you're gonna score. I swear it's going to happen. And so that was the show in one point magic was on. And I was sitting with magic we're doing an elevator scene. And they were like breaking good you stand up a little taller. And I was like guys he's I'm sending x magic who's, you know, six six and goes goes six eight sorry my, but yeah. So magic is on the show. I don't remember Mills Lane on inside Schwartz was member. I have a boxing glove with his signature on. I made sure to get everyone to sign everything. Bo Jackson was on point. I said and bows hips were really tough at the time. And I said let me ask you net. Was by the way, this is an obnoxious thing to say VO Jackson don't ever. Do it. Your question right now who would win in a foot race without missing. A like me. But you don't matter, and it really it was like, this the athlete spirit where he's like. Yeah. It doesn't matter if I'm hurt or not. I'd crush you. Because it's all I do for a living. You know? I wouldn't let you live wouldn't let you win you lilliputian. Boy. So well, I mean when you start messing with pride. Yeah. And prideful athletes as goats. Yeah. My parents are Donna is getting in my ear. I guess going down the IMDB page of inside Schwartz Buckner on Bill Buckner was Buckner on. And then did you ask him who could right now who could fill the ball? The ground. Bill Buckner came on was lovely. And they said they kind of the producers, and I never grown baseball. Very well, I didn't know baseball. So I knew the I knew the visual Buckner, but I know his name, really. And so they told me it was and they said, listen, also don't mention it. He hears about it every day of his life. Don't mention it. And I'm like, no problem. I'll be respectful Bryan Callen who's a stand up who's. On the show Brian people on the planet Brian's there too. And they're telling us together. Like, you know, just don't mention it. Cruise over it. He comes in Bill. Hey, doing brecca Martin Schmitt. You Brian come out of the held. You miss it. Jim is it and Bill kind of just like never heard that, you know? And but he signed doll for me now. So yeah, Bill was great hidden someone for Kalomo. Kelly kick counting heard about talking about the elephant in the room. There was no chance he wasn't going to do it. It's like comedic Terance chances not gonna say it, and yes, we'd Buchner on. And all these all these people were pretty mad. Tony Gonzalez and all these people is really about the on the hall of fame, dick Butkus, dick Butkus. I mean, sure he must I don't think. I mean that that's kind of like football acting royalty in dick Butkus, his everybody. Yeah. Magic Bill Bill Walton where do you keep all these items? They just in your house. Mike. I didn't know how to like display because it wasn't like they're not mine. And as I got. Yeah. I have I know where they are. Okay. You know that they know where it is recognized here on the on the rich Eisen show. So we you had mentioned you're you're heading off to play some golf. I'm gonna go play golf. There's a Rio de Murray brothers of Bill Murray and his brothers have a cherry thing in Saint Augustine. I'm gonna go play in that. And Bill was the voice of Garfield in the to Garfield movies. I did we met words. But yeah, so yeah. And I'm not a very good golfer. Brian Doyle Murray wrote Cacheris, okay, shocking. He'll be there. They're playing. He's got one of the famed lines of Caddyshack to pick up that blood. You know, he he plays the he's the he's the caddy. Faster. Pick up that blood. Yes, I'm gonna go play with them. But you don't play just going I play a little bit. And it's just so time consuming, you I know, but you I'm I'm wondering how it hits you because I was able to watch with my kids tiger win the masters. Yes. And that really I mean, I was really they get back to make today. I mean, in a way, my daughter loves the name, Tiger Woods and just again just seeing tiger. He just looks inviting you know, so she kinda dig it. Yeah. But for at least, my sons, I kind of felt like, you know, instead of that, you know, use the phrase used before like the old man talking that me tell you about tiger. Yeah. Sit down and let me tell you. This was the last. Yeah. I sort it sounded like that. Right. And now I'm able to say that shot on sixteen. We just saw ROY almost jarred it from the T, boss. That's the Tiger Woods. I'm talking as he's putting the jacket. It was kind of big. Yeah. Kid. Yeah. Those really neat. When the kid ran his mom was there. Like all that. I'm all for Nozoe knock on whatever would because I know nightmare. That's what I don't have back pain. I don't have a back issue. Right. And the fact that I mean, they're shots. Whereas, you know, holding holding holding. I don't know if it's putter putter where he was on his knees. This guy's trying to do. The one thing is incredible at body won't let him raise a nightmare. You know, the idea that so it makes it that much sweeter. When you're sitting you actually would have pulled together. And after I don't know how many surgeries had was like with three or four. It was insane. By the way, needs just one. Yeah. One back. I started playing golf for fun. And I wasn't very good at it. And I was playing about five months playing with my inlaws at the time, and I had a hole in one. And if you've been playing for five months and have a hole in one that people have been playing forever and haven't right? And they're your in laws that don't like you very Brian that happens, and you know, so I stopped done. I think I just I just golfed a hole in one and you're done so good night. Or was it picked up a little bit later. We're doing Franklin bash. Mark pullen. I got kind of rebuilt by the bug. We've had Mark Paul on here too. You're right. To long for you to. I mean, like we've had pretty much everyone from your ozo- senatorial. Bill Hader, first time he's ever opened in great Brechin Mark up here in the rich Eisen show. So what what do you play? I mean, I played oddly enough oddly enough with my stature, I played basketball lot. And it was my that's my main addiction you were in that famed pickup game around this town. Right. I mean, yeah, I've played I played a Gerry Jerry sham Shanley's game for about ten years. I I've I've heard what in the world was that the house. He would just have heard about it, and Gary is the best. I my makeup artist was his makeup artist. You know, very mainly. That's what you get into most basketball games makeup artist. Gary and also I knew my makeup artist face because he was on because like, Gary there's that will Larry Sanders. His makeup are on the show was his makeup artist. Bruce, a really Bruce Grayson on the show is Bruce Grayson his makeup guy. Right. And I started talking to Bruce about and I love playing basketball, and he invited me one time. And I was then I stayed for thirteen years. Every sunday. I'd go play ball. Gary's. And what was his game? Like, it was was a it's it's a half court three on three to seven and by ones and twos. And it's a quick game. But it's also the funniest game in the planet because you got whether it's will Ferrell or Judd appetizer. Whoever's there Sasha Cohen, whoever happens to be there..

"You know, they brought back even I don't even know half the characters are in there in the second one. On the other hand things like that tracked me because I'm in a baroque kind of way, you know, what I mean? I want you wanna find out. Why it how it got so bad? Yeah. Actually now, I'm sort of a tracked into it myself. Maybe I'll check it. Brian Doyle Murray features more prominently in that one Bryant Bryant he was a big SNL cash member for quite a while. It wasn't bad compared to the people know. But anyway. I got a bunch of before I give you the rain songs 'cause you just explain quickly for me. And for the people. We'll look at fuse about Facebook live. Can you only watch that while you're actually on Facebook live, or is it like a podcast where you can pick it up later. Well, what I do is. I it goes live and then share and if I share it kinda stays on the page. All right. So how do you know when you're on their lives? Signed up for something. Or is there a way to get? No, it's right there. You know, what you gotta look it up on the computer and have them walk you through it to toil. It'd be too complicated for me. But the in the upper in one of the screens, the main screen, I guess, there's a little an upper left is a red arrow with which is it. But you should just look up. Look it up online Google it as they say because I want you to I still things live in. They send me, you know, put up a notification that so read show is one guy going to be live music people. Or? If you follow me, you will get a notification when I'm live. All right. Well. Double check. I will follow him wherever he may go a little much. I do I remember. Just want to give you a guy on YouTube. I think you'd really like, okay. Name is. The A T T O, Rick beatiful. Okay. Check them out. No. But he's so informative. So knowledgeable about recording and music and bands and plays a wonderful Pierre. He's just is a musician's musician. But he says things really, you know, easy to understand way. Rick beato. Okay. Got to all right. And I have a bunch of rain. So I don't know how many of these skinny three. Okay. 'cause I got about ten, but all right. The rain in Spain stays mainly on the plains song. That was my question is the title or is the title of different title. But that right there some people say to practice their diction, but maybe it's too. What else? Yep. In a might as well rain until September. Eleventh Carole king, buddy. Holly renting him a hawk good men. Thanks. Appreciate it. I have well Priscilla may need more time. We could just hold her over. "I got a really keep track. Would now did you do other things while you're watching reference as the kind of movie that that rivets you to your seat the paper? Starring Michael Keaton, and Glenn Close wasn't that Tom Hanks movie that just came out called the paper the post. That's what I meant wasn't fucking riveting either. I just meant like it's not a newsroom drama, you're dealing with. You you get up you walk over to the window. Go get a drink of water. Right. You know? Not a terrible Phil I believe he does explode because he keeps going get it out. I me sure that I think is stomach exposure. I watched a film that I saw opening night in theaters one of two movies. I can recall where opening night me, and my buddy ban where the only two people in the theater one was the now beloved cult classic office space. The other is the very little beloved by very small Colt cabin. Boy, I love Kevin boy when I saw it in the theater, I love the cheesy sets and affects. And I thought there was a lot of big laughs to be had when I was a kid. I love the cupcake flying up and spitting tobacco. Adam and stuff. I was just you know, I didn't even smoke weed at this point. I would just I thought all that stuff was funny as an adult I find that less funny. I find Chris Elliott about equally funny and annoying equal measure, but sometimes the so annoying. He's funny. And what I found particularly great this time out where the four performances of. Seyhan on the boat. Okay. Brian Doyle Murray, just these old gruff dudes. We're an odd like comedy team. They crack me up Brian Amorin. Chris Elliott because Brian Murray was also on get a life. That's correct. Yes. I I love I love colder. Chris Elliott stuff is newer stuff. There's something eagle heart. It's like to what it is. It's to adult swim, swimming or something, I don't know. But I like that older Chris L stuff..

"Pretty smoothly. You get a sense of what this day was like even though the breaking it up. I gotta tell you Arnie. I never once doubted that he only lived a final day once because I think he got it right and the earned the right to move on. Now, you know, he messed up on that panel solo a couple of times redo the whole day. How many times did he live in almost perfect days? My question how many times did he come close and not get there? All right. You guys wanna know what? My fan theory was. Get ready. Oh, yes. So we're at the party at the end of the perfect day the final day and who's at the party needle nose Ned, and he goes on and on this guy bought whole life. He bought term life of like he just needed to buy life insurance. He needed to ensure his life to get his life to move on. See I always thought this was one of the funniest jokes because you know, that's real expensive that insurance that's all a racket, and he has gotten everything now. He's stuck with it. He's gonna have to call up and cancel those policies. Are always felt like he bought all that just to be nice to Ned. I just felt like that was how he got out of the loop. Is he fight life insurance? Finally bought the jurors. It was probably the only time it ten thousand days that he bought the life insurance. And he got to go to the next day. That was the key. He had that same day by the life insurance, redo it. He's like there's something I'm this life insurance. That's it except he's being a good person. He's not scheming. This is the interesting thing is he's just living. To be good not ever thinking. He'll be out of it. Right. He's given up that hope he's just being nice every day. And so he probably saved that kid many times and change that tire many times and saving his brother. Brian Doyle Murray from choking. I think he's done that so often and he's not doing it with the hope reward. He is surpassed that because that would be selfish Phil thinking if I'm good to others off finally get out of prison. And again, I think that goes to the Buddhist philosophy watched the razor says which is adapted from book but Bill Murray really wanted to do that. It's not great. It's all right. He doesn't quite pull it off. At one of the big things is that he comes home as a soldier from World War One, and he's just trying to figure out life and he lives the decadent life in France. And then becomes a monk. And he's just trying to figure out if peace it is very similar to this. I think this is a better version, but one of the famous lines is going to have to paraphrase 'cause I don't have memorized. But basically, it's easy to live the good life. When you're. Because what's the temptation, you're just sitting at a temple all day, not talking not doing anything? So you see that here. He is going through. And he's got a do all this. He's gotta run from house to house to save people and fix tires. And yeah, there is a selflessness to him at this point where he's not grumbling about he's not complaining he easily chief that nirvana or whatever state. It is. I'm sure one of our listeners is a real Buddhist tell me, but he is chief that enlightenment in this film. So Arnie declare a fi then the version we saw he lived once. We may live that close to the perfect day shor a thousand times. But the version we see in the movie is the final version the one he gets right? And I think that's probably the only time that Rita is. So impressed by him and his not being interested in her. He's basically doing that pickup scheme where you ignore the hot girl. So she's more interested in you. So she pays three hundred and thirty eight dollars for him at an auction and eighty eight cents. Which was a lot of money in ninety three. I just wanna tell people the follow up with Chris Elliott is perfect. Chris Elliott moment when the old lady bison for what two bits one eighty five cents. Yes. Fantastic. Just fantastic. So the movie wakes up the next day with Rita and decides impacts, Tony it's feels a very satisfying ending..

"That's how the weather was done. So I was kind of cool and I still enjoy Bill Murray doing that into seen. I'm not sure if you guys. Noticed but the first of two appearances by an actor who later become a celebrity, but here's just one of their first jobs. The little guy who wanted to take over fills weather report for the Saturday broadcast. It was is Willie Garson who would go on to be one of the supporting players for sex in the city. Do you guys watch sex in the city? He was the bald gay guy who was friends with Charlotte. Did you recognize him in this movie? No that means nothing ever watched the show and watch sex in the city back in the day, unless it Steve I don't think I would have recognized him fair enough. Stephen mister big those would be the two I'd catch. This actually these were all shots done way late after test screenings. They were just going to start the movie with them rolling into pucks to tawny. And crowds were like, we wanna know more about Phil. And these people he's going with. So all these scenes were basically pick up shots at the very end Arnie. I actually heard that the script started with him already reliving the day over and over again and the viewers. Had to catch up. Yeah. I read that in an early draft. And there is no ration- all that stuff. I hate all that stuff. Yeah. So you're saying they actually they finally got to film the script. They actually started with him arriving poxy tawny. Right. The very first draft of the script that the writer gave to herald Ramos started with him punching Ned. And then there was a voice over this. Like, you'll understand why I did all this. It would then explain it through backstory that he had a curse put on him a voodoo curse by an ex girlfriend who he cheated on. And he was cursed to do this for ten thousand days, and then he would be let out so that was the original original original draft that went through Meinie rewrites before we got to where we were. And Ramos said what are the things that drew him into? It was you're just jumped right into the middle. And he's in these loops, and he's punching Ned, but the more he really looked character arcs and things he's like people need to discover this with Phil. And so yeah, they kept moving it earlier. And earlier and then even after they were doing test screenings, they moved it earlier still. So that we're in the evening weather forecast in Philadelphia before the road trip to pucks to Tony. And I like how this final version is presented here. I think it's very efficient. It's only gonna be about twenty minutes until restart looping groundhog day, but everything is told to us we're gonna understand Phil conceited jerk, especially when we get into that when I called groundhog day prime the original day were you know, it sets up all the little characters in the town. But we see Rita here. She's the producer of the show and eat it know, how that green screen stuff. Worked brock. You're messing around with that that feels like go on YouTube. You can find all those news bloopers where someone Weirs a green dress or something. But we have a local newscaster who every Halloween wears a green dress in front of the green screen. So it looks like her head in hands or floating off awesome. And then, you know, you have Chris Elliott who I love Chris Elliott. Love the TV show. Get a life. He's ever man. Yes. Great show. Apparently, according to Ramos on the commentary there. Yeah. Chris Elliott, we loved him from David Letterman, and my wife knows him from David Letterman. Yeah. That's where he started. I never saw any of the Letterman stuff, but man, get a life on FOX was such a funny show and Brian Doyle Murray was actor on that show. I was a big fan of get a life. So yeah, Chris Elliott was actually one of the big motivators for me seeing this. Although I never did see cabin. Boy. I just knew better. Oh, it's to say something to do cabin. Boy, I'm shocked you never saw that. But these three together the one who strikes me as odd and may be alone on this Andy macdowell where were you guys on Andie macdowell at this time? On Tuesday night, if ever warm weather movie on Thursday night, we're asking tonight on Wednesday night tonight. Quits, again, take three what is your favorite sports movie because the Super Bowl is just two days away, Kathy? We appreciate your patience. Cathy, you're on wwl. Mine is building natural. Why do you love the natural Robert Redford? He is he is attractive. Insertive all the. The ending. Yes. Yeah. The ending is pretty damn cool. Do you remember the name of the bat in the natural? Lightening or Sunday with lightning, right? All right. And then the one he makes for the back boy for the kid. Remember that one? What are you? What it it is wonder boy wonder, boy, you got a great memory and a great way of. Summarizing movies, by the way. Thank you. I wish I could do something with it. The natural is really good. The natural is terrific. Robert Duvall has in it. And it's just it's just a fun movie a baseball movie, but it will for brim lease the manager. And and it's set back in the day old old time uniforms, really set the tone for it. But again, again, what makes it great. And for my daughter came home and told me that she had seen the natural. And she was you know, it's not just a sports movie. It's about life like, ding, ding, ding, ding. We have a winner. So. Yeah. Also talked about how older players can still cheese. You know, the kind of the old man on the team. Right. Right. Right. Right. Let that be a lesson in life older. People can do it can achieve anywhere. Super Bowl coming up. Don't forget Brian. I will not forget Bryan song, James Caan and Billy Dee Williams. And that's just a fun movie. A lot of one of my favorite things about Briancon has so many former bears are in that movie. Like, Bobby Douglass in that movie? And in a gibbon the old bears coaches in that movie. It's fun. What's that? Guilt. There's no he he's not in his obviously, Billy Dee Williams plays gale Sears. But but he is not in that movie. Kennedy. Thanks for calling. I appreciate nice words. And thanks for participating. I thank you. Kathy leaves line open. She's telling me how solid I am on the radio. And and my my ringer goes off. At least it's not a big time program director hearing his own tax going off. He's listening to this show. Mike is shamburg. It's your turn next. Hi, Mike, WGN, lady, we'll talk and sports movies. And you're making lots of noise. Good morning. Car driving to work at this believable. Our? Good for you, man. You gotta gig. You're you're being honest. You're taking care of your family. Straight. That's what it's all about. You brought up Jedi. Check earlier. Do you ever? See the documentary about the making. No shame on me. I didn't I Bill Bill Murray's my absolute favorite actor and the coolest thing about Bill Murray is he's the funniest person in America. He's not the funniest person in his family. No. But he and his brothers were country club called the Indian hills. It won't matter when I know it. Well, okay. That movie was. Yep. Indian hill singular. Yes. Right. So. That you mentioned that goes behind the scenes adults about the regrets window Murray. Bill murray. Righty digits had. There's one scene. Were dead. Long tables evacuated. We're actually doing drugs. I'm disabled. Would not surprise me. Surprise. The documentary Bill. I will I will I will try to find it. I will ask I'm buddies with Joel Murray, and he's funniest Murray. And I will ask Joel what the deal is Mike I have ever saved trip. Have a great day at work. Okay. Buddy. Outstanding show. Time all the time. He's great. He is so damn adorable on the radio. Thank you very much for calling Mike we need step away band. We can keep going. We can keep going for a minute or two, okay? For to want it. And I know exactly which documentaries talking about. It's it's really good as a great. Yeah. Because they they really get into the depths in of the background of how everything came together. And how it almost didn't come together. I love that. Well, Brian Doyle Murray who was the genius behind writing the script. He's an allow you recognize him. What what he's in Wayne's world is big part in that. He's the owner of the TV station. I know he's great. I know he had relationship with the, you know, the the guy who was in charge of the caddy's, you know, well, how come the price of cokes went out lose been losing track? Again. It's it's such a great movie the same girl who plays the female lead in Caddyshack is also the same girl who passes out drunk in the shopping cart in animal house. She is she's in the to like most important comedies coming of age comedies of the seventies the same chick, and I cannot tell you her name. Lofta off to look it up. Please please do. Let's let's grab one more. This is Dave Dave you're on WGN radio. We appreciate everybody's patients were trying to get all the Dave Morin warning, Harry a I know Nick would like these two slapshot and major league. Well, they're both great major league. Of course. Dire stars Wesley Snipes, Tom Barringer, Bill leff, and Charlie Sheen and slapshot slapshot. When did the great, Dave if we had a scene from slapshot, and we could just play it right now. "I would think they were associated past because there's something about those actors that kind of they bring a kind of medicine quality into every role that they are even when they're funny gentle or during the comedy. It's like they're still something about, you know, certain actors in a role that that would be this nuance that just wouldn't be able to pull off the depths of it. You know, and so and it's and it's weird because like all the Franks behavior in any other case, I would consider him sociopath. I mean is I wouldn't I almost wouldn't even I wouldn't even classify him necessarily even as a narcissist because. That's not his personnel. He wasn't born like that. He he is who he is. Because he was kind of broken as a kid, and he never got those pieces fixed. So and you know, bilberries performances, so it's so beautiful. You know, you really just you can see it all in his face in his eyes. And there's something so moving about I have to say like men in particular who able to kind of go to those depths in a role on especially when it's like supposed to be funny, but it's so much more than just funny. I just don't on the about his relationship with his brother because you know, his brother loves them and gives them this really beautiful president and their child not done together as kids, but you don't really see him having much relate. You don't see Frank reaching out to his brother, and I wonder if that is because his brother embodied something that Frank doesn't have. Have you know, his brother has a wife, you know, they have usual friends, and it just seems like his brother has love in his life and Frank heeds completely. Void of that. Maybe the reason why he doesn't have that relationship or refuses to initiate any kind of relationship with his brothers because she doesn't want to see what he doesn't have. And he fills, you know, maybe some shame around that. So that that's something that just dawned on me as we're talking about his character development. We maze writers they knew there. They did a really good with us. Yeah. Yeah. Oh, that's such a good point. I really didn't think about that. Because I see the brother as being somehow more forgiving, and but also his brother seems more sensitive emotional. So I feel like his brother would be more in touch with the pain from the past. Obviously like, you said has the partner and the friends to also give him support. Whereas like Frank just took the other road, you know, the other road where like, I don't need anybody. Just need money. And if I have the most money, I can have like that's all that I need. And you know, I've got a million friends in the Bank like back kind of attitude. You know, but I really I didn't think about that about his brother when I watched it again, I'm gonna I'm gonna keep that in mind. I love the brother though, he's so sweet, oh my. Like his brother in real life. I love the fact that it was like a family of bear. Because Brian Doyle Murray. Bill murray's. That's Bill Murray's older, brother. He plays his father in the movie. And then I don't know what his brother's name is in real life. But he plays his brother, and they they look just light. So yeah. Yeah. So it was a bit of a family affair, which is. Wow. That's done Murray John Murray. So that's I think that's his his younger brother and Brian Doyle Murray, which always years assumed was his father and relied. Because..

"It's a little off what we've been talking about. But I and I, but I'm. You know, I would follow boxing. If I had the, you know brain to to follow stats, and that kind of thing, but it always mesmerizes me and always gets me hooked is a boxing match. And you know, I guess sort of in a way when you're doing I don't I never did stand up comedy. I did it once when I was sixteen where I think addition to catch a rising star. And what to that decision to even do that? I thought I was going to go into comedy. So I should try to do stand up. And this guy wrote like, you know, a terrible, Bob and Ray type bit for a friend of mine and myself to do bombed. I ended doing an impersonation of Lee Harvey Oswald, and the always a winner always a winner you. They MC said, you know. Okay, thanks for leaving him barf in. And I think I just did that that pose a vase while getting shot and. Never went back to it. Never went back to it. But I think that even the stuff that I when have done on sitcoms in front of an audience, and there isn't an element of a boxing match going on there too. You know, there's an element of like you said control. But it's you're you're using your talent you're using what your ability to trusting your instincts, trusting your instincts to kind of control these people to win. Yeah. Have you directed? I did direct a couple of small little things. I have no desire to do it. I have I am. It's I'm not I am so lucky that I've had a very, you know, fruitful career and have a great cult following and would never put it down. But I think I'm reaching a point in my life right now where it's time to slow down. I'm not particularly passionate about anything anymore. Unfortunately, great. Yeah. I think the the man child persona that I developed his little odd now at fifty eight, you know, but you read it a sixty two year old level. Isn't that true? I try try. But I yeah. I mean, I can see myself retiring fairly soon and doing I like to paint. I like, I love Maine. You know, I love, you know, traveling and that kind of thing, right? Yeah. For for a lot of us. The idea of retiring. Means death. I I feel like creativity and expression of it actually keeps me young. Right. So is there any concern there be of other hobbies and interests? That will also keep you going. Well, yes, young issue. And I'm not sure I would ever be retired in the sense of never working again. But I have for the last few years just been in a position where I'll do something if somebody calls me. Yeah. Right. And that to me is pretty much the level of retirement. I'll I'll have to lie. That's right. If I'm somebody needs an elderly, bald guy with a blond beard, you know, and they call me, I'll probably work when I'm in my eighties. But it's not you know, like I was saying before I I'm not like thinking, oh, I have to be on television every every week. Now, I have to find something that's every day. There's a concern about money for sure there's a concern about, you know, being able to support myself and my family, and my and all that. But I just I think I've done I it's hard not to feel like I've done enough in. Away. Yeah. And anything else I'm happy to do. But I don't I don't want to push myself on people anymore. How pretty much my career has been. Well, if you want to see my guess, Chris Elliott's swan song. I've described every project I've done for the last thirty years. Just once we have a segment on the show called famous questions. These questions themselves are not famous they come from a famous person. And those these questions are written by said famous person directly towards you. Specifically, the guest this one comes from Brian Doyle Murray who asks I wonder if I gave him as much indigestion as he and Spuy gave me. Billy's Buick that was saying was an episode get a life where I befriend in an extraterrestrial named spew because Spuy and was spewing this horrible gunk all the time on at the at the end, Brian. I eat the extra terrestrial and. Yeah, that was actually it was an Adam Resnick idea..

"Hello and welcome to on spoiled, Paul share. This is the podcast where we are watching a film from the top one hundred list every single week and looking at if it still holds up if it's still enjoyable does. It say something isn't worth your time. And this week we got a real classic on our hands. Mr Smith goes to Washington. Corrupt. Totally. That's not true. And before we get into that though, we want to go back to last episode where we talked about the classic Marx brothers film. Duck soup where we had Conan O'Brien sit and talk to us a little bit about his feelings about the Marx brothers. And we had so many great pieces of feedback though. Number one piece of feedback that we got Amy you, and I both we got hammered with it. I'm just going to give this credit to Mark t cantor who basically just taught us a lesson about how you pronounce chick. Oh marks. It's not Chico. It's chick. Oh. And it was chick. Oh because chick oh got a lot of chicks. You know, there are many theories as to why he was named that. But if it is pronounced check. Oh that does make me believe the chick one anymore. But is the shoe store called Csikos Chico's? I mean, how let us know. I know. No. Maybe this Csikos like, hey chick. Check out those shoes. But that was something that I am embarrassed. I did not ever think about. So. Thank you for that correction for many of you not just Markelle Thomas Kanter what else you got Amy Kevin Joseph who's at Kevin Joseph C, M X. He thought of another film. I loved the point that you made a duck soup about how it was so many different comedy styles. All the Marx brothers together. And he was like, you know, Caddyshack kinda worked that Dangerfield chase Bill Murray. And laid it should not work the way that it works together. Those people are offering on totally different five. Yeah. It does work and Caddyshack is a very Marx brothers type of film. If you think about it like that plot is like Dangerfield is like Groucho coming into this high society place. The only difference is like, you know, who's Chevy Chase maybe Chevy. Chase Bill Murray is kind of like Harpo. By that. Harpo, boomer. Yeah. That I could do that. I can I mean that's a totally who Chico Chico. I guess I you did it again. Oh, damn who check chick OBI. Jacoby Chico is the hard one on that one. I mean, I guess I mean, he wouldn't be tonight. Because tonight would be Margaret Dumont. Maybe I should go would be Chevy Chase Chevy. Chevy. Chase Chase was was. handsome and Zappa. Would be would be Danny. I Bob Gasol writes that I couldn't have been more wrong when it came to the writers of the film. I kind of this is that the Marx brothers. I assume they did all the writing than I when I saw writers. I was surprised and I thought maybe they just carried over suffering the vaudeville days, but Bob says no I hand full of gags were carried over from vaudeville, but their best plays and movies used top notch writers, which is such a unique thing to think of these very disparate personalities, these strong comedic performers who didn't do their own writing Caddyshack. Actually, it was Doug Kenney herald Ramos who also directed it. And I believe Brian Doyle Murray all have writing credits on that movie. That movie is a mess of film, those kind of being rewritten on the fly very much like they got great personalities, and then through the grace of God that movie kind of clicked and worked, but at the time it came. Came out of Kenney. One of the writers actually committed suicide because the movie was kind of flop when it was first released an after like all the acclaim of animal house..

It's like once you like know anything about how TV works. It's like, oh that actually makes more sense. It's supposed to be like they're selling out or whatever. But it's you know, I don't know they do something that they have to advertise a video game. Yeah. That's that's. No knows arcade. Yeah. Was because the it's I think the owner of the arcade comes on. And they have to interview him and talk to him about his arcade. And that's a that's a pretty ordinary advertisement. Yeah. Yeah. It's not that bad and our kids probably really fun. And and Wayne goes in like, you know, reds a bunch of things on the backs of all the car this is so clearly a conversation between people in their thirties. Completely flipped. If I was twenty if I was still twenty three I might mildly side more with Wayne. But now, I'm just old and tired and like paying my rent. When I was a kid. I do think I felt bad for Noah. And then seeing because. Yeah, you sound like a nice guy. Yeah. It's Brian Doyle Murray. I think plays them. And it's like they don't say that like he's done. Nothing wrong except own a business. Like, we ain't got doesn't like him because he's successful. And it's like, you know, I don't think I don't recall him doing anything that made him be like a dick or anything before. When did that this product is arcade games? Yeah. That rules that should have ended. Really? They should have made it something else. It should have been something less likable like, yeah. Yeah. Also, some tax preparer and him moment that turns Cassandra on Rob Lowe is when she can't tell his hand from a snake is that lay which is supposed to be like this crane metaphorical moment. But just like it's such a weird like not even get that. Get that. It was because he was he's like a snake? Read deeper levels. Like, it's like a prop live snake? Rob lowe's. Like, don't worry you'll be better here. And she's like what your hand feels like a snake? I gotta get outta here. That's that's a big moment. I don't know. Yeah. It seems like I think she made him us. I mean, obviously, they throw it away in the end by having sort of met a deconstructed ending where nothing mess. Yes. In the long term. She probably would have been better off with the nice hot rich man who cared about her career. More more than Wayne Wenli, if nothing else the movie could be like she did the right thing choosing Wayne because he is a nicer guy. Also this other guys like fine now like everything he did it makes sense like a huge problem the ending ending like the last one where everything goes perfect doesn't. He like have like it turns out he wears a toupee or something like that. He gets his hair. Yeah land, and how dare someone be? All right. He had he had both the evil hares bald and slicked all the way right unacceptable..
