"Same as a big recruit. So at that time, during draft training, but a 5 years ago, Josh got to see the gap, right? But he had an internal belief that when he when he got all those resources that he would be there. So when he had a belief, too, he had a bunch of talent, right? He can run fast, he can jump high, he can throw it a mile. I didn't teach Josh Allen how to throw it hard, right? So he had and also Josh is a guy that if you explain it to as soon as he understands it, he is now he owns the information, right? Some guys you got to continue to remind them over and over again, that teach them that new thing and they got to hit it a bunch of times. Josh is incredibly inquisitive. He understands it. And he picks things up really quickly. So I can keep going on that. So he had a list of things that he had. And then he needed resources. He needed to be put in a position, we could proper base and movement and how you use the ground. He needed to learn that and then he needed a bunch of reps at it and then he needed a place that would draft him that would continue down that path, which is what Ken Dorsey, the quarterback coach at the time, now The O.C. Brian devil, then OC now head coach of the Giants, right? The people around him help facilitate that. And so he needed these additional resources from a mechanics standpoint from how to learn it from a system. And then talent. I mean, his rookie year, you know who his number one receiver was in Buffalo? There's a trivia question for you. Kelvin Benjamin. So he needed a resources, okay? So I just think it starts with Brandon bean and Terry and kimba gula, but they said, you know what? We're all in and what he has and then we're all in on putting these resources around him the correct ones. And so what should have happened in 6 or 7 years happened in three? And that's it. And so when I look at a Malik Willis or any of these guys who have a ton of tools, they have, they have tools, they need resources. Malik Willis, whether he's a bust or a boom or whatever the opposite of a bus is or a superstar. I think it's not going to come down to him. It's actually going to come down to who takes him and what resources they put around him. Going back to my point of more bus in the league happened because teams fail in the ability to develop around them more than that player was a bus. I guess you could say like Lamar and Baltimore, right? Like what a stroke that was for him, even though it was, it was a long night for him to be drafted 32nd overall. But for him to wind up in that spot, they changed their offensive eventually. And now they're trying to pay him. But that seems to be, what do you have? What do you need? And they gave him what he needed in that regard. A 100%. I think we try and create a model, the fans and media trying to create a model around the prototypical quarterback, which is just dumb nowadays because there's all sorts of ways to do it. This position has never been more equal opportunity. We got 5 ten guys getting drafted Heisman and breeze and Russell. We got lefties. We've had two quarterbacks from North Dakota state taken in the top three picks in the last 6 years. I mean, it's wide open. And so they're no longer like 6 foot four from one of these 5 schools. Like I used to be in the 90s, right? So nowadays, it's wide open. So we can't have a model for a type of quarterback. The model is, how do we take a quarterback what he has and are we as an organization? In a position to immediately give this guy each resource. Identify what the resource is and whether that's what we do here at this place or not, we put those resources around him. I think Lamar Jackson is a perfect example of an organization who said, here's what this guy has. Here's what this guy needs and boom. Every single person from the quarterback coach to the office of coordinator to getting Mark Andrews who played in a spread system with a runaround quarterbacks to like every single piece, they're still Baltimore and they still get after the quarterback and they still do all that stuff. But boom, they immediately build around them. Kansas City is an example. Buffalo is an example. Jared Goff, what didn't end up being the guy, but the way that they brought in Sean mcvay and built around Jared, those couple of years. Like, that was a spot. So there's a handful of teams that are doing a fantastic job of doing this. And so now that there's these open spots with these young guys, what's Seattle going to do? What is in Carolina? What are these other places going to do if they take a quarterback to build around this young guy? Last one for you, Jordan. I love this conversation. You just make me smarter, and I just love getting right into it here. But last one for you here. So again, we've just discussed Josh Allen, who you've had for years. And the jump that he's made from year one, two, three, we just saw an incredible jump from another one of your guys, Joe burrow. What does a jump from year two to year three look like for him? Do you think? Jordan? Well, I think what I look at and what I think my role with some of the when guys reach the success that Josh and Joe have had is we're not really working on fundamentals anymore. They essentially own their stroke. They own they make zero about they know why and fix it. I don't know what I do is I help guys get the self correction. The next phase is and I'm not going to teach Joe how to win. That's why I'm asking this question, Jordan is because what an incredible leap from a guy coming out from a blown out knee, right? So what. We just discussed, what does somebody need? What do they have? What do they need? He needed protection. It seems like they've hit the heck out of that in free agency. Now comes a draft. What do you think will look like for Joe burrow? Well this year. I think with Joe, the way that I, the way that I approach these guys is efficiency. And so when I look at Joe week one to Joe, call it the AFC championship game. Right. As the amount of plays where he's has efficient movements versus inefficient movements. And so now I can talk for 20 minutes around what my definition of an inefficient movement is. But really how we put force into the ground to create leverage to move our hips to the next spot. And so in the AFC championship game, Joe had three plays that I thought were inefficient movements. One was a pick..

"People. If there's a thousand people listening to this, I bet more than half of them don't think I'm crazy now, right? He's a runner. He's one of the best runners in the league. The only other guy his size that runs like him is Derek Henry and Derek Henry's faster and he's got to step on my Jocelyn's between the tackles he cuts back. He spends hurdles jukes doesn't take big shots, right? So he's becoming a dynamic runner in this league. And then arms sound wise, it's the strongest arm I've seen or whatever, top three. I backed up my brother in his prime. I backed up Jay Cutler. I backed up Blaine gabbert, who has a sneaky hose. And then I've seen all the rest of them. So it's a top whatever arm, but he's a dynamic runner. And he's like two 50. So from the physical capability standpoint, which I had nothing to do with any of those things. It's there. Now, it was there in Wyoming. It was just, that was the only thing that was there in Wyoming, right? Was these flashlights? I remember rolling to his right versus Boise state. He rips one like 40 yards back of the end zone. And I think he threw three picks that game they were terrible. You know what I mean? It was like, that was him. And so I think the part that people don't realize with Josh is the buy in, also how intelligent he is, right? Sometimes small school guys, Quincy and I do this a lot. We got to teach them how to learn, not just like teach them in office, we got to teach them how to learn an offense. Josh is incredibly intelligent. Tell him once and he's got. They run some sophisticated stuff from buffalo. That's Brian devil, right? That's a lot of New England stuff, and it's very sophisticated offense. He picks up really quickly. And he's a complete ownership of it. So the physical stuff is there and everyone will compare, I don't really compare guys. I just believe the guys who won a Super Bowl until he won one. I can't really get in the Super Bowl crew. You know what I mean? And I think Joshua Josh will win one here soon. But with Josh, I think the things that stick out to me, the whole coolest guy in the room thing, he might be one of the coolest, my favorite people I've ever met just funniest, like, doesn't matter who you are. He comes from blue collar. He is buffalo. I told buffalo that the driving up to the draft, I go, you're not going to get a first round quarterback like this, who buffalo is the biggest city he's ever lived in. He moved from fireball to reading. You don't even know where he is. Where are these places at, bro? What state? Central California. Then he went to Wyoming. The smallest airport I've ever seen and I've seen some airports. And then the buffaloes, the biggest cities ever lived in. And so this is not a guy who's like, this guy who he wants to play there. He wants to, like, that's him. Right? So I just think it's this perfect storm of this crazy athleticism off the charts intelligence. He believes he's the best player in the world. So that type of unwavering self generated confidence, the independent of the environment. It doesn't matter what's happening right now. This is what I'm about to do. And then somebody that day on a podcast, one of his teammates, and I'm going to start on Instagram. They said, man, Josh Allen had this speech. You know, like, well, I looked at him and he gets ready to say something. And he just stood up and he said, today, I choose violence. And he walked out. And it's like, that's him too, right? Like, I wouldn't wipe that guy. No shot. So I think what's really fun to watch is how much fun he has. It's Barbie, the talent he has. It's up there with anybody. We don't get to see how intelligent he is because we just assume everyone's running the same place. They're not, he's deciphering and disseminating a lot of information. And then he's a guy who's like, got a lot of joy in his life. He really, he's at a place where he wants to be. He's got stability. He's got a new contract. He's got coaching staff. He loves players. He loves. So we talk about the Super Bowl window. The Super Bowl window is when you have a quarterback like that in that state of mind. The last thing for Quincy.

"Outside of play calling what Andy Reid and the spin cycle that he put this defense in using tyreek hill DeMarcus Robinson got in evolved Pringle, they used McKinnon out of the backfield, lined up Travis Kelce at quarterback in certain situations. Wait, no. That was disrespectful though. He started talking with tight end. But still. They catch involved. DJ wide didn't deserve. The play was phenomenal. And I saw the DB like, what the hell I'm supposed to do? Against that. First of all, you knew what was gonna happen. I didn't. That's why I mind hurt more. But the bottom line is this. We get into these conversations about these elite play callers. And I know everybody already understands that any readers at what he does, still do. But watching that game last night told me about a coach really, really identifying what we do to hurt people and sticking to it and needling it in. Because a lot of our conversations about Kansas City early this year was everybody know what y'all doing. You know, when I saw them week 18, the chief said, we really, from the coaching staff standpoint, we really looked ourselves in the mirror and we did a ton of that blame, which as a player you got to think, if I know that my coaching staff is looking at it that way. And then by the way, the results are there. They team it up better for me. That works out really well. All right, let's get to the other side of things as we continue to talk about the AFC in the divisional round the chiefs. Let's take on red heart red heart. I guess he has a red heart, I don't know. John Allen, he's been red hot coming off an absolute beatdown in the New England Patriots. Allen diced up that Bill Belichick defense for 5 touchdowns. It was unbelievable. He's truly unstoppable. 47 to 17 as the final score in this one, Dan, anything on the field that Josh Allen can't do right now 'cause I'm trying to figure that out. No, and that's kind of his mindset. I really think when Brian David, the offensive coordinator for the bills, uses him this way. He becomes indefensible. He's a three tool player I'll beat you with my arm, my mind in my legs. You want me to take the short, easy completion grape? You want me to have to scramble because there's nothing open. I can do that. The ability to throw any type of throat, man coverage, crossing routes, having the guys run away from defenders. Push the ball downfield to be aggressive with it. You see the pump fake and holding the safety and then taking that shot the designed runs that are utilized in this offense. He's almost like Shohei Ohtani for the angels in that movie. Nothing else can't do and when Brian Dave will kind of deploy him as a weapon, that's when this offense is at its best and everyone we've talked about it ever since that second half of buffalo, it seems like that's really what they've done. It really has helped their football team and to your point where I just don't think he goes into the field or into the game thinking there is not a play, not a throw only, but a single play that I can't make. So good 'cause I feel like you could play linebacker as well as. Big enough to me about the spill's offense in addition to Josh Allen playing God level football right now is the run game. Because this was often said much of the first part of the season, not only couldn't run, but wouldn't for a few years. So a lot of that is Josh Allen using his legs. He's been incredible, but it goes beyond him. This run game is now diverse, productive. I mean, you're seeing devastating here. Look, he gets a lot of light back boxes. A lot of gives on the RPOs go to him and he gets yards that way, but also it's Brian devil finding ways to use their personnel, whether it's the fullback, regime who we were talking about earlier on the Devin secretary counter on touchdowns. I think you mean, who was there were 41 for the Bill? He got the most snaps in this game than he has in two months. Yeah. It's Isaiah McKenzie, getting three end rounds for 9 yards of clip. I mean, suddenly it's not just Josh Allen. You have to defend every player on this football team, and that is a problem. Yeah, we were talking about coaching with the chiefs. I think Brian dabel has made a lot of improvements. We didn't like the way he was scheming up some games earlier in the year, and that's changed. All right, still to come, Joe burrow has proved to us he isn't just an athlete, he's Pablo Picasso on the field and this is Dan's intelligence. Bill Pablo, by the way, I didn't know that Dan knew who Pablo Picasso was, so taught me something new. Yeah, anyway, that's coming next. You're watching NFL live, presented by Windows 11 and Intel. It's my first year in a new team in a new city, and I'm excited about the chance to go out there and play a home playoff game. It's gonna be a lot of fun. Plus, we're hitting the field for pregame interview with Cooper Cup and going one on one with calamari. I look forward to the next game and that's how these guys do too. Just about an hour and a half away from countdown and time now from field report brought to you by Windows 11 and Intel for that. We welcome in Lisa salters. Lisa, what are you hearing about JJ watts potential return tonight after missing the last ten games? He's coming back, Laura. Listen to this. A torn labrum and rotator cuff. A separated shoulder and a dislocated bicep. That's how much JJ watt blew up his left shoulder back in week 7. There was so much damage done that doctors basically had to reattach everything and what wasn't expected to be back on a football field before the 6 months, but just ten weeks after having that shoulder surgically rebuilt what is set to play in the first Cardinals playoff game in 6 years tonight. He told us he doesn't have any shoulder soreness or pain, but he does have to wear so many protective braces that sometimes he said his left hand goes a little bit numb. That's how much that thing is short up. Cardinal's coach is told us there's no real snap count for wat tonight. It will kind of depend on how the game is going and how he feels. But he'll likely be used on passing down situations. So but no matter how much or how little he plays, watch remarkable return was fueled solely by what he said was the desire to win a Lombardi trophy. I was brought here to be a great leader and a great player, he said, and that's what motivated me most to get back. It really is just incredible. It's truly remarkable. I'm not sure how we even had a shoulder left after all that, Lisa. Everything you went through there. I mean, I certainly wouldn't have, but anyway, yeah, that's why I'm here and not there. Marcus says he has a new shoulder. So listen, maybe can report that later in.

"It's so hard to say hot hand in that situation, but in answer to your question, that's that's That's the way it was played. I think we'll take it week by week. Cody was doing a pretty good job in there. So, uh, you know, Bobby Scott said that he would be a good, uh Good guy to keep in there for a while. He did a pretty good job in there. Um, obviously got to do better, but, uh, we'll take it week by week. So that's where it stands, so I would anticipate unless they were enormously impressed with the way Cody Ford played in the second half. You might see that rotation again this week, and this is not a foreign concept under Sean McDermott. We saw Italian Seki and Cody Ford is a rookie platoon at right tackle, probably for the first eight weeks of the season, right? And we also saw as Eric would pointed out who appeared on the show earlier. I think it was the first year of coach McDermott 2017. We saw Vlad Ducasse and John Miller platoon at left guard for the first month of the season or so, so this is likely to continue. Also, Quentin, Spain saw Quentin, Spain after signing a new contract. Get benched after week two. Or in a week to get benched, then released, Uh in week five. They will not hesitate to Cut bait. So, yeah, if they're not happy with how it's going, they're going to. They're going to work on it. They're not going to let status quo does not exist. Yeah, so I would anticipate that Platoon will continue going forward and if one player Clearly separates themselves himself from the competition. That guy will play more of somebody down the line gets into the conversation. You know what I'm saying? That could happen to? Yeah. Tommy Doyle was inactive. Spencer Brown. All those guys, um Yeah, well, just wait. Things can change as we have seen Brian table and coach. McDermott also addressed getting Josh Allen and a rhythm, which proved hard to do in the game against the Steelers. So Brian Table was asked what can be done to get him in a rhythm, and coach McDermott was asked about You know, kind of how Josh was impacted by the atmosphere on Sunday. Here they are on that. There's different play types, right? There's you know, you can turn your back and play action stuff. And you got a good rush. And even though your play action, you know they might They might get back to you. With your back turned. You can keep it all spread out in front of you so you can see the whole defense and try to get the ball out as quick as you can to play makers. Um you know, there's our POS. There's Draws their running game. You know you you try to you try to do whatever you can do. Um, you know, Look, he certainly had some good plays in there, and he certainly had some plays that you wishes he had back just like we all do. Myself included. Um, So that's that's what we get to work on. Josh is a self aware person athlete. He's been in the game. You know, enough years now where he can, He can self correct and that's important. And you know he's humble with with, you know, admitting to some of those that he wants back and so, um, you know, we talk about those things as a team. I know he's spoken with. Um, you know, Ken Dorsey is coach and Brian Devil as well and they discussed some of that, and it's all about Hey, how can we be better this coming week and making sure we're taking those steps towards that towards that direction? This week as we move forward practices, So, uh, yeah. I mean, you know, listen it. We knew the environment was going to be that way, And that's the way we want it, uh, again and then give credit to our fans. Um, that's what we've got to go to execute at a higher level, so in certain situations. So I thought it was interesting that coach specifically referenced The atmosphere. He clearly believes it had an impact. On the way, Josh Plate. Yeah, I think he alluded to that..

"But I will tell you this. If Greg Russo looks like he did in training camp and preseason, I don't want them rotated Greg Russo on the field as much as possible sale. I look at the other side Pittsburgh We were talking a little bit about the game plan. We saw Dallas run on Thursday night, where they decided to basically go after the only weakness. I think if you look at Tampa Bay's defense, then Sean Murphy bunting getting injured, they challenge their depth right away at corner. I said this, Jeremy. I know Joe Hayden. He is on the last 18 19 games of his career. There's not a ton left in the tank for Joe Haden. Who is behind him like they got rid of Steven Nelson. They got rid of their other Mike Hilton, like they don't have at least my knowledge, a group of corners that I believe can keep up with this group of bills receivers, especially if they're going to be rotating them in and out there going to be fresh throughout this game and the different packages that Brian Tables give me right if they get for receiver sets out there today. That. I mean, that is advantage bills all day. So would you like me to tell you who's listed on their depth chart behind us? This would be this would be an enlightening experience for me, and I think many listeners and viewers on stream yard Okay, so they have Justin Lane cornerback. Do you know much about Justin Lane? No, I know that that sounds like a name. That's real, all right, And they also have on the opposite side. James Pierre like these are the backups to starter Cameron Sutton and starter Joe Hayden. All right, um, in the secondary, look, make a Fitzpatrick is awesome. All pro natural Adams. Obviously we know who he is, but you know who's behind them at safety, A rookie a rookie named Let me get his first name here. Make sure Trey Norwood trainer was a rookie safety. So They? They have some questions some questions at depth in the secondary and I agree with you. I don't think Joe Haden is quite the level of player he was when he was going to Pro Bowls. He's is he lost that team. Supposing, number one is that well? Well, the heat Their defensive, according to Butler was asked about that this week and he said, I'm not going to tell you what we're going to do, but we will have a plan for Stefan Diggs. They better. I mean, not many teams didn't Yeah, no, That's the thing they did have plans first founded the next wouldn't work out. 80305 50. You can join us. You give us a call and hop on with us at any point here. 1 88 5 52 5 50 have another comment at the Facebook feed. Sell about the run game for the bills. You know, we talk about the Steelers Najee Harris. The Bills run game is Devin Singletary going to showcase? What's different about his body is what everyone has said is different about people. People have a lot to say about the changes he made. And he talked about, you know, in the off season having goals, the team asked him to do some things as trainer. They're watching this film all this like, will we see Singletary? Get off a little bit with that today. I like to point out Brian Devil's schemes up very favorable looks for Singletary and has his entire career so I know the looks Are there at the lion has to do its part, and then from there, it's on the backs. It's something that I think it's not a weakness of the team. It's a place they could Get a little bit more of an edge more from the backs. The Singletary lead the way with that this year. I think initially he does. You know last night we all do these these radio spots around the country. I'm on Sirius NFL radio late last night, And they specifically asked for a fantasy purpose. Question. The same question. Fantasy purposes, Devin Singletary see the guy. My answer to them was the same thing. I'm going to say everybody right now, which is I think Devin Singletary is the lead back. So to speak. Now, I think there's separation. I think Zack Moss lack of availability..

Let's just pick the winners and then we'll go to the awards section of the show, Okay, because it is the start of the NFL season. We have a lot of similar teams. There aren't too many differences here. You know, your co doesn't have Atlanta in the playoffs in the NFC. I do. I don't have Pittsburgh and the FC Yurko does. But by and large we both have. The Chargers may be a surprise to some. We both like the Chargers to win the seventh wildcard spot in the A F C this year, So we have a lot of similar teams Jericho who is winning the NFC this season. Oh, the NFC is going to be one by the Green Bay Packers also have the Green Bay Packers winning the NFC. I think I love my green Bay Packer Aaron Rodgers is going scorched Earth Part two here, and then he's going to leave Green Bay. He wants to leave with the Super Bowl ring in a big F you a big middle finger. I love it. The green Band, Wisconsin, A F C winner York. Oh, it's going to be packers and the Indianapolis Colts. And you've got a lot of love for the Colts. You get Carson Wentz Fever, buddy. Yeah, I like Chris ballot. Wow. I got to say I'm a little shocked by that You should be. Good for you for going out in a way. Well, listen. I mean, you want me to take Kansas City? I will. I mean, I didn't either. It's too easy to take Kansas City and to go three straight years as great as they are As much as I love Andy Reid. As great as I think Patrick Mahomes is Believe it or not, I don't love their wide receiver depth. When was the last time we said that? That's the one thing you can nitpick right now about Kansas City. They're an injury away from like it really got to rely on Nicole hard meant a lot, and I'm not so sure that they're going to be able to rely on record could be the horse. I don't know about that, man. He who do you guys? I have the bills. I know that I've had some trepidation about like could covid wrecked their season. I think they're too talented, and I like the coach and Brian Devils gone at the end of this year, so if they're going to do it, they got to do it now. Brian Devil's going to head coach next year. I'd be shocked if he's back in Buffalo. So I'm going to go Packers bills who's winning the Super Bowl? York? I've got the Green Bay Packers weddings. I hate to say it, but I picked the Packers to Yeah, that sucks. We both picked the pack. Well, hopefully we're both wrong. I mean, that makes everybody happy. You know when I just gave him the Gucci Do you know? Well, do you know the last time we both picked the Green Bay Packers to win the Super Bowl? They won the Super Bowl 11 4011. Yeah. What was that 2010 or 11? What we forget? It's one of those two. Maybe 2010. The Super Bowl could have been 2011. But it was after the 20. I think you're right. And you're going. I both picked the Packers to win the Super Bowl that year. That's the last time we both picked out in Dallas, right? Yes. And they won the Super Bowl that year, So maybe we didn't Gucci. Um, last time we did this, they won the Super Bowl. We'll see. We shall see. Who do you have winning MVP this year? York? I'm guessing it's going to be Carson Wentz. Carson Wentz is my m v. P. Wow, Even though his team's not going to get to the Super Bowl, I did go. Very chalky. Here. I went with Patrick Mahomes doing EVP Who's the defensive player of the year? A good kid? Amigo Chase.

"He's hearing all the things obviously, in contact with the with the organization as well, because being one of their analysts, the Bills aren't leaving Buffalo and I I know that they have to use negotiating tactics. Maybe Austin And then we have Eric back now, but they were talking about Austin and all these, you know, far away places. I mean, the bills mafia, Eric, correct. If I'm wrong, they would revolt. They would burn down the forget the city. They burned down the state if the bills left. Oh, you're absolutely right. And, um yeah, I mean, and yes, there's much. There's much bigger cities out there in the country, um, that are just pumping revenue through the city. A city like Austin is such a hot town nationally right now, but it truly would be a shame. If they're even became a real threat of moving the organization. You know, that fan base would definitely be offended. Yeah, No, they definitely would. Before I let you go. We know Josh Allen is the man. But Mitchell Dubitsky is there is back up. He looked pretty good. Last weekend. We We crushed him first for three years, Four years in Chicago. He actually looks pretty good now. Is it just a change of scenery? Or is it the staff and the You know the environment that he's in now that that's making him feel less? Don't know, under the under the the hell of everybody. Yeah. I mean, he got to go back to Chicago put on a show last week. He did, And I kind of anticipated that Brian Devil would let him run the offense the week before they only give them to pass attempts there in the huddle the entire time. The bills. Run. I kind of know how to offensive Last week, they let him run out of the bell huddle, and, um, they let him really show off back in front of the home crowd in Chicago. But when you look at Miss Stravinsky, he's a guy that had some success takes the barest of the playoffs. He got some time to develop, and then all you've heard from him. Recently is when he spoke to the media about his time so far in Buffalo about how he feels appreciated for the first time he feels supported for the first time and and I don't want to make too big of a situation about it, But I do know that the bills Fan base that the Bills organization is extremely excited, even though it's only a one year deal to allow him to come in and be the backup there for a year. Yeah, I mean, sometimes that's all it takes being appreciated, and it actually brings Lot more out of you, Eric Appreciate you hopping on detailing the bills as they head into this 2021 season. Good luck to you, and hopefully we'll talk to you soon. My pleasure. Anytime, brother. Be good. Eric would bills analyst former offensive lineman He was a really good center. Uh, for the for the bills. He just He had some injury issues that forced him out of the game after only eight a seasons, but a good a scouting report on the Buffalo Bills. They have a lot of talent on both sides of the ball. And now the expectations are extraordinarily high as they have jumped over the New England Patriots, But the Patriots, you know they're going to come Roaring back. Alright. Dak Prescott may not be healthy the entire season, according to some reports of the Cowboys struggled early, should they shut them down. We'll discuss.

"On the show. Former Buffalo Bill now NFL writer analyst For ESPN, Matt Bowen, because we're going to talk about Josh Allen, which we love talking about around here and he's got there are two interesting pieces to bring up one. Matt did a piece recently. Maybe you saw it. An article about how to defend the six elite offenses. The bills were one of those elite offenses and bills fans. Of course, Kansas City is on there as well. So we'll bring that up plus new. They have an article called the NFL Quarterback Council, and they've ranked the top 10 quarterbacks in a number of different categories. Josh figures prominently, So we're going to get to all that. Hopefully, as Matt joins us on the Western Hotline matted Tower to break and good morning thanks for giving us some time today. And what's going on. How are you? I'm doing well, thanks for coming on with us. Appreciate it, You know, let's start with Josh Allen met and obviously it's well documented what he was able to do last season. Why do you think he was? He was trending up anyway. But why was he able to make such a big leap from year two to year three. Something is both player and coach in that situation. I go back to the time I play in the league, and any time she rapid development with the younger players, this is Josh is still younger player in the league. Heard a couple of things. One, a willingness to be coached. Okay, And I think Josh is one of those players that want to be coached. Hard, wants to be held accountable, wants to see his game rise throughout his coaching throughout the scheme. That's the other part with Brian Devil. And Ken Dorsey what they do offensively in Buffalo. Uh, one of best game players in the league. You see if we can and week out, not only their a game plan heading into it, how they adjust throughout the game, making adjustments based on series based on what they're seeing defensively. First half the second half and how they attack opposing defenses. I think right now Brian David was one of the best in the NFL attacking Mann Cup. You can go to multiple games last year last season with the Buffalo Bills office and how they run away from man coverage. Probably give wide receivers free access off the football and the other thing with Josh going back to Josh. Greg Cosell's My teammates with Sal pH. Antonio in the NFL matchup show at ESPN. We go back to that Monday night game against San Francisco. Uh, gonna build around the road was the best game of Josh Allen's career. I really believe that the reason I say that because He was so comfortable in the pocket so much in command of that office, and then you saw the place and this is always what you look at the top quarterbacks in the NFL. Mahomes Rogers, Russell Wilson. Josh Allen is right on In that next year. I believe And what they can do One day play within the structure of the offensive guys. The best thing about him to they can go outside of structure when necessary, and that's what you saw from Josh a lot this year. It was playing within the structure of the offensive then when he had to make those second reaction place He turns into a playmaker, reflecting agreed on the San Francisco game. By the way, it was effortless, and I've said before, Matt like that night was the night I looked at and thought, Okay, these guys could actually make it to the Super Bowl, But But let me I'm going to fast forward a little bit to your article about defending elite offenses because your reference table in there And I guess I'll ask you this. There was a lot a lot of bills. Fans were nervous in the offseason thinking maybe Brian table would get a head coaching job, and he's done a fantastic job here with Josh Allen. Do you think Josh Allen is at a point? That even with if Briand able leaves after this season gets a head coaching job is Allen at a point where he's good enough. It isn't all just well, that's that's the guy and when he leaves, there's going to be an issue. That's a great question, and I'm glad you brought it up to those guys are mentioned at the top. Mahomes Rogers. Russell Wilson. I call them scheme transcended quarterbacks and what I mean by that is they can play in any scheme. They can function and producer pretty much in the offense in the National Football League, and I think Josh is right in the next year. Where you can put them in any system, and you can adapt. That's just and you can cater to the offensive. His skills. That's any good offensive coordinator and coach. Naval leaves they bring in someone new. Well, If you look at the offensive last year, you can have some new install. Obviously. It's just still gonna you're still going to design the office or on the strength of the player. And we're Josh l right now he's had the arm strength. You throw a vocation and accuracy. He can read it out from the pocket. You can use my design quarterback runs and he brings up second reaction elements your office because he can get outside of the pocket and create with his legs or with his arms. When you put that all together, that's a scheme transcendent player that should be able to fit in any offensive scheme. With with your four now. Matt. Matt Bowen, ESPN End of analysts with us on the Western Hotline. What's next for Josh Allen? What do you need to see from him? Is there anything you think he could do? What could he do better in year four. I think you look at the two Kansas City Games from last year in the Tennessee game. I think you look at those three tapes..

"We're back here on one bills live Chris Brown, joined by Maddie Lab who's capably filling in for one Steve Tasker, who will be back tomorrow after participating in the Jim Kelly golf tournament today. Which was rescheduled from June dudes who the pandemic We do want to get back to the tweet sheet. Where where you're asking you for your biggest takeaways from Saturday's game, and Brad says, My biggest takeaway from the game against the Bears would be. I can't wait to see the damage our starters can bring in week one. That game. Got me excited so Where did you come down on that matter because As excited as the performance would naturally make all of us about the depth of this roster. Still, to a large degree have not even seen the starters in action. Really? So I think Lot of us are going Based on what we saw last year at the start of the season, where there was no pre season and they got off to a flying start, particularly on offense. Are we safe to assume that again? I think we are right. I think we're safe to assume that because I think of our backups or our second half of the roster is playing this. Well. I think it's fair to say Well, the if these guys are bawling out, just just wait till we get to see the starters in action Week one. So that's I am right in the same line as Brad because that that was another takeaway. For me. It was We have depth, but I'm even more excited to see what our guys from last year are going to put on display when they play the Steelers at home on September 12th. Yeah, I mean, logic says If you have your 2nd and 3rd stringers. With airtight execution like this. That means that The starting group, which obviously is even more talented, because that's why they're the starters. They're going to execute at just as high level, if not better, so I think it's an indication of You should tip your hat to this coaching staff and the way that they have rounded this roster in its entirety into form. It's not like there and we even saw it in this game. I mean, when the Bears third stringers came in, it was a drop off from where it was at the beginning of the game, which wasn't all that impressive to begin with. Um And with the bills. You don't really see that there is not this dramatic drop off from second to third string or first to second string and I think that speaks to The job that this coaching staff does to get everybody ready to play its not like. Hey, look our priority here. I mean, I know it's training camp and we got to evaluate, but We've got to get our starters ready for the regular season. That's job one. And you know if we happen to get around to, you know, getting you guys and making you better players. Well, then so be it. But if not, you know you're out of luck. There are some coaching staffs that do that. They focus solely on getting their starters ready to play for the regular season and everybody else kind of falls by the wayside, and they're left to their own devices. That's not how it's run. Here. They get the roster top to bottom ready and I think Their performance on Saturday was a very strong indication of that, so I tip my hat to the coaching staff. You move on to a number six. I guess we're out from Tiffany. She says Brian Devil would be a head coach sooner than later. He's done more through whiskey in a short period of time, then coach Nagy was able to accomplish in years. It's a testament to the quality of coaching that we have at all three phases compared to other organizations. Tiffany, You're right. Brian. Day Ball is going to be a head coach one day, and so will Leslie Frazier think it's one of the more unfortunate things that we're realizing, and, uh And we're lucky to have him a part of the coaching staff this year honestly, and I think a lot of us feel that way. I mean, day Ball, and Fraser both got head coaching interviews. For whatever reason, they did not get those jobs. I would have hired them on the spot because I know what they can bring to the table and I know who they are as people as well as coaches from what we've seen. During their time with the Buffalo Bills. But, yeah, this guy can scheme of really great offense for Josh Allen and make Mitch Travis Key look like a different quarterback in different ways against his former team. He's a pretty dang good offensive coordinator who is going to find a home as a head coach sooner than later. Yeah, and You know, I think we all know that the bills are playing with house money here. I mean, just by virtue of the fact that you've got all your coordinators back. This is the third season for Heath Farwell, let alone the fifth season for Fraser in the fourth for a table in the McDermott regime. So The continuity is uncommon. I think there's only five other teams. That have the same head coach, offensive coordinator, defensive coordinator, special teams coordinator and starting quarterback that are the same just from last year. The bills have had the same for the last. I think it's three years so going on counting this year with Heath Farwell so They're fortunate, and I think everybody knows how fortunate the bills are to have those two coordinators back and I think day ball. Was already a proven play caller. But he's largely credited with what he's helped Josh Allen develop into over a number of years, three years. But what he has been able to do with Mitch Travis Key in a matter of months and then put on display as we heard Greg Cosell just say in the last segment, Manny. He did a great.

"Yes, Still, there's a little bit of that, but The talk of him changes. You don't talk about him anymore like that. He is no longer the pesky underdog Josh Allen. Once he signs that contract, I'd really say now, but really, once he signs that contract, he is no longer the pesky underdog. He is the guy that has the expectations to carry a franchise and I don't think there's anything wrong with that. By the way, the fans expecting that now we're changing the way you think about them, because that is the way we have to. If you're going to pay him, if you're gonna pay him, he does have to perform that way. If he's going to go out and and accept that kind of money in the you can blame the team for giving it to him. But I think at the end of the day, it's okay for fans to say. Okay, buddy, like now you've got to do it more consistently. You're getting paid to be the guy. Yeah, And I wonder. I mean, I guess you know, we'll see. Alan seems very well grounded. And, you know, outwardly, you know, very self confident in his ability, but that all of that can mess with you. You know, like the expectations you can try to keep keep a lid on it or just not think about it, But I think you know it's something that is always there. And, you know, maybe Allen's got mental skills Coach is to like work on exercises to sort of avoid, you know, dwelling on it and that kind of thing, But it does. It's a different The equation is just different. It's different for us, Uh, and the fans and it I think is undeniably different for the player. It's just a question of how much if at all, it changes. You know his mindset about all this. Let's let's get connected with our fans here in this first segment, and that is brought to you by Ban Schenkkan King. A full service buffalo law firm. Ken is up first, this segment with the thought on Allen and Abel. Hi, Ken. Thanks for calling your on W G. R. Guys. Thanks for taking my call. Um, I'm calling about Obviously devil and our devil. Good offensive coordinator, obviously, at least appears to be I mean, like you say, could be Allen could be able to come combination of the two The way I look at it is this If you lose stable You get another offensive coordinator of the same mind that utilizes the strength of all the players that he has, and we have talented players. If you utilize their strength. I think you're going to be a successful coordinator because at the end of the day It's Josh Allen making those incredible throws. It's not the offensive coordinators split it between two defenders and over the head of the other linebacker to get it perfectly into their hands. That's what I've seen from Josh Allen's progression. That's that's why I have the confidence in them. That as long as you've already got the talent around him, you utilize his strength and the strength of the people around him. You're going to be successful. He'll continue to make those kind of throws. You're going to be successful. He's also going to make the offensive coordinator. It's like the chicken and the egg. Is he making table look great or stable, Making him look great. Some people say Well, then I say it comes down to the throws. You see those throws you see the confidence and I'm And I think their confidence and those and that talent combined is what's given him. The ability to flourish like he is. Yep. Excellent job, Ken. Thank you. I I like this, uh, this point because, yes, table gets a lot of credit, scheming guys open and all that. But let's remember, like day ball had never had Successful like a like a top ranked passing game in the NFL. His quarterbacks were pretty bad and like that's probably there's a correlation there right. Like why? Why is your passing game? Not good. If you're such a good coordinator? Well, maybe because I'm working with like I forget the names, but it's It's not an impressive list of guys that he Was coordinator for so you finally get someone as talented as Josh Allen. And suddenly the whole thing works like I think both guys deserve credit. They get credit. Um, but I I like Ken tend to lean towards the talent of the player. Helping elevate the coordinator versus the the coordinator. Making Josh Allen, who he is because ultimately like Ken says, has to make the throws and do the things that he can do athletically, and I think that's the harder piece of the puzzle of Find. And I also it was a well laid out thought as bold oxide. Ken. Thank you. I am not. As I guess concerned or worried. Maybe it would be the word. I think I'd be saying here some people might be about the bills losing Brian Devil I don't want them to. There's no doubt, but I'll rewind. You know, 67 months ago whenever it was And say the same thing. Now, as I did, then, which is Brian table were to leave for any job to go to another team. Rain and being Sean McDermott will have very, very reputable, talented people beating down their doors to take that job. They will have people that want to be a part of Josh Allen and what's going on in Buffalo and to work with his team have a chance because that's their stepping stone to get to be be a head coach to work with that kid and what he can do. And I can pretty much guarantee you they already have lists of people that they would have in mind for that job. So to what Ken said about? Well, you have to get an offensive coordinator that would do this. This and this. I'm sure if Brandon Beane is going to invest 40 plus million dollars in Josh l, which I think eventually that's what it's going to be. It's gonna be 40 plus million dollars a year in Josh Allen. He's not going to go out and find an offensive coordinator post. Brian dabble. It doesn't do those things he's gonna say No, it's about Josh Allen. So I'm going to get a guy that make sure that he uses Josh l in the right way, and he will be completely and thoroughly vetted. And maybe already has been by the way to know that they already have their ducks in a row. If and when that happens. Yeah, it should be a very desirable job. 100%. That's what that's what it is when you when you get to that level when you've got the pieces in place, Alan, Of course, the key man, but digs definitely rights here. The depth of the receiving corps just all of it. The success of the team the stability Um, of McDermott and being in place as long as they have been like It looks like a place where you could trust. And I think if you have that, then I think you should be able to You know a value self of like the best the best offensive minds that are available at the time, So we'll see if it if it comes to that, Thanks again for the Cannes, uh, the can call the call Ken. I meant to say I appreciate it very much. We'll take a time out here. Greg wyshynski ESPN dot com on the Stanley Cup finals, the upcoming draft and the state of the Sabres. We'll get into all of that and more with Greg. After this, I am the bull box alcopops chosen.
