"AP's sports on Tom maryam. Now that the college basketball season has ended, all hoops attention is focused on the NBA, as the pros wind down their regular season. A big final week Eastern Conference match up in Philadelphia as the 76ers kept alive their chance of edging the Celtics for the number two seed with a one O three one O one victory thanks to 52 points by Joel embiid, the third time he's hit the half century mark this season for Doc Rivers team. The man just scored half our points in the NBA game. And I'm biased, but the MVP race is over. The Bucs now have a magic number of ones that clinch the top spot in the east, as Giannis had a triple double and a one 41 28 victory over the wizards for coach Mike budenholzer. We just kind of go about our business. There's, you know, rarely is there a special message or anything. The heat hawks and raptors all one key games while the nets lost as those teams battle to avoid the playing games in the east next week. Out west the warriors and Lakers also had important victories as they look to avoid the west play in games. Baseball, the defending national league champion Phillies became the last team to win a game this season, topping the Yankees four to one, as Kyle schwarber built in the 200th home run of his career. Cool thing, definitely definitely definitely a cool thing, but happy about the win. One day after routing them at ten zero, the brewers nearly duplicated the feat, settling for 9 zero triumph, as Milwaukee belted 5 home runs, three off Max Scherzer, the braves behind rookie Dylan Dodd down the Cardinals four to one. "Yeah, the two, the two most likely names, aside from terrain, are both outfielders and their guys that have been on the radar for a little bit, sell free lick and Joey Weimar to guys who could not be more opposite in terms of the way they look, the way they play, you know, self free lick is about 5 ten left handed contact hitter. He's exactly, in my opinion, the kind of guy that the brewers need in their lineup, a guy who just figures out a way to get on base, scrapper, his time goes along. I think he'll develop a little bit more power. He's a guy who can play across the outfield and he's not going to hurt you. Then you have weemer who is this big strapping 6 5, 220 pound guy who can run like the wind has a cannon for an arm, you know, kind of a prototype right Fielder. And a guy who, if everything goes right and hit 35 homers in a year, a lot of early on in his professional career, there were a lot of comps between him and him and hunter Pence, both in physical stature and looks and just kind of the way they play the game. I think he's a little bit farther off than free lick is. I think free lick will be depending on how the outfield shakes out. I think Bruce fans will see free like in the first couple months of the season, and it's incredible the rise that he had in the minors last year. I mean, he started in high a and he was in the discussion by the end of the year of getting a call up. Kind of unusual, of course. So those are the two guys that really pop to the forefront in my mind as guys that could make an impact in camp on the pitching side. You've got a couple of relievers Abner urban who definitely needs more seasoning, but he's a guy who gets triple digits with his fastball that always will interest people and interesting teams. And then there's a little bit less heralded right hander by the end of cam Robinson who led all the minor leagues and saves last year with 25 his velocity is picked up, you know, he's got a good change of pace as well and a guy who got himself on the radar. He's also on the 40 man, which is which makes a difference too in terms of how quickly teams will call a guy up and how easy it is for them to do it. So that's two guys on the pitching side that I would mention as well. But this year may be more than any other in recent memory, the brewers will be impacted by a number of their higher ceiling, bigger name prospects. So in closing, how should the brewers or how do the brewers define a successful season for themselves in 2023 and for the fans who, as you noted, are in some cases dissatisfied with the way things have been going, what would it take to get popular opinion back on the brewer's side? As currently constructed, I think it would definitely be a major disappointment if they fail to make the playoffs again. I think wild card spot is the absolute basement of what they should be shooting for. I think a central division title is certainly within their grasp. It looks right now. It's like it's between the brewers and the Cardinals with much improved cubs team. Probably having a little bit of saying that as well. So from a fan's perspective, of course, you know, they should be in the World Series every year. We know that's not realistic, but this is an ownership group and this was bandied about after the hater Trey last year and it's almost become a kind of a rallying cry for frustrated fans that this is an ownership group that wants continual continual bites of the Apple as far as the postseason goes. This is an ownership group that does not want to go

"And educated guess would be that he heard them talk about, you know, his ERA over the last 6 weeks was 6.75 or he struggled down the stretch against the cubs and the pirates. He did not pitch particularly well against kind of the lesser lights in the division. You know, so I don't think there's any way possible that any team could have any kind of validity or that argument would hold any water that he was, you know, he was the reason for holding them back from the postseason. I do know that Corbin burns has a pretty good pulse on kind of where the franchise is in the fans eyes since the hater trade and that's to say not in a really good place. You know, you start with the unpopular trade of Josh hater to the Padres, which was looked at as almost exclusively a cost cutting move by the fans. And then you move into the off season and you've got the brewers really barely spending any money in the free Asian, market, bringing on wade Miley, Brian Anderson, really the two, the two only notable additions. For not much money and then you come into camp and the storyline coming into camp was the brewers are seeking hundreds of millions of dollars of public tax money now to help upgrade the ballpark and then so you've got the fan base pretty riled up as it is. And then you throw this into this charm into the water and the sharks certainly attack. So it burns knew what he was doing. I think it was very calculated. You know, he knew the sentiment would be behind him and it certainly was. Based on all the social media that I read, you know, fans are really irate with this organization and a particular the owner, which is amazing to me as somebody who grew up in Milwaukee and Wisconsin in the 80s and 90s, remembering all the loss seasons where the brewers had no money and spent nothing and just spun their wheels and were really bad missing the playoffs for the first time in 5 years last year like they did. It said sent the fans kind of into a tailspin and it was an ugly finish to the season, but I think the fans kind of need to gain a little perspective as to as to what they're dealing with with the brewers which has been a small market team that has punched above its weight class and no small part due to Mark adana's willingness to spend beyond a small market team's means, so we'll see where it goes from here. If the brewers get off to a good start, they started 32 and 18 last season and best 50 games start in team history and it was all rainbows and sunshine, maybe another start like that this season will help kind of put some of that ill will to rest. I want to talk about burns as a pitcher and some of those moves you mentioned, but I think before we do any of that, we should probably focus on one of the other names in your last answer, which is Matt Arnold. I think a lot of people were surprised at the end of October last year when David stern's announced he was stepping away and was taking on an advisory role but wouldn't be serving as the president of baseball ops anymore. What change has that sort of made in the front office? What have you observed about the early part of the Matt Arnold era that we might see informed decisions that the team makes going forward? I think by and large Matt Arnold has followed the same path, I think that David stern's would have followed if he remained in that role, meaning heavy emphasis on analytics, you know, listening to their baseball apps people, you know, making moves that aren't necessarily going to excite a lot of people in a lot of areas. They have a very specific prototype for what they're looking for in pictures, for instance, and they love ground ball guys. So they spent the winter picking up guys that induce those both in the bullpen and lengthening out their starting pitching depth. So from that perspective, not much has changed. As far as kind of the way Matt Arnold approaches the job, he's definitely more visible. I think a little bit a little bit more comfortable in the public eye, David stern's was, I wouldn't call him reclusive, but was not visible around that much, was not available to us as much as Martin met Arnold has been, and, you know, it's not to say that it's not been a transition for the brewers or for Matt, you know, going from being Robin to stern's Batman for all those years here, you know, that allowed him to kind of fly under the radar. So to speak, but now that he is the man and he's sitting in the chair and, you know, he's the one who's getting the phone call, the phone calls from Mark adana, you know, it's certainly it's been a change for him, but as far as the way he deals with us and our accessibility to him and him doing his best to explain why the team is doing what it's doing, he's been great in that regard and it's been nice to kind of let that relationship blossom between media and Mac, because he really is a good guy.

"Usage is, but there's just always going to be that concern with the tournament that takes place at this time of year and there isn't really a better time of year, you know, like if you were to do it after the season, a lot of players wouldn't participate then either there's no great time to do it because players were always worried and teams will always be worried that the guys are going to get hurt and there's always a risk anytime you're playing you could get hurt. Yeah or you know the other option is the teams just aren't patriotic, you know. Yeah. I'm a rebel roaster. I'm a rapper. I mean, you see people say that. Like Jerry Manuel, who is the bench coach for the U.S. team, said in a Ken Rosenthal piece a few weeks ago, I thought people would break their necks to play for their country. Go to the other countries and they're begging to play and that's not necessarily true. I don't think they have issues recruiting pitchers too, but again. And for the same reasons, right? It's the same as entities being like, hey now. Yeah. It is funny that teams seem to be not that they want to be clear. To be clear, not that they want their eyes to get hurt when they're pitching for them. But there is sort of a seeming acceptance of the risk when it is in service of the club, but when it comes to other entities, they're like, no, there's no thank you. No, thank you. Right. Yeah, 'cause if you get hurt in your own team's camp, then I guess it's well, what are we going to do? Injuries are inevitable. But if you get hurt in a pitching in the WBC, then your team and your team's fans are always going to think, well, would that have happened if they hadn't been there? And so even though you're going to get some number of injuries regardless, if it happens there, then there's always the what if and you kind of regret or you might have regrets and it's sort of silly, but inevitable. So really, it's other tips there. I mentioned Luis Castillo from ber Valdez is another one for the Dominican Republic who at one point was slated to pitch for them and then ultimately didn't. And with valdes and with Castillo, like sometimes, it's framed as like a mutual decision. The team and the player kind of came to this decision together. And so you always wonder how is the team leaning on the player not to participate, right? And they'll be tells the teams like we want players to participate. It's for the good of the tournament and the sport, but you kind of wonder what gets said like they can't say you can't play in less, I guess you were on the 60 men IL, maybe the previous season, but you kind of wonder and players like they've got money at stake and contracts and walk years and everything. And so you can totally understand why players wouldn't participate. I'm definitely not knocking anyone who doesn't. It's slightly saps my enthusiasm for the tournament, I guess, when good players don't play, particularly good pictures. I just, you know, it's such a, it's such a strange job, Ben pitching. You know, 'cause like, you gotta do it at least some to avoid getting hurt. But if you do it too much, you know, it can really backfire on you. So what a difficult what a difficult needle to thread. Yes, it can be quite hazardous to your health and breaking news. Yeah. Right, and it seems like the strategy more and more is just like pitch less pitched fewer innings and that'll help and ultimately it doesn't really help some guys, but that other guys, yeah, maybe they don't pitch enough or maybe they're pitching fewer innings, but they're all max effort innings and maybe that's just as bad for you if not worse. So conundrum. Yeah, we'll do a WBC preview of some sort, I think before the tournament starts and so I don't want to dampen anyone's enthusiasm because there's still a lot to be excited about. Yeah. I'm looking forward to it. But I think the absence of elite pitching on a lot of teams, that just makes me more psyched for team Japan because the Japanese team pitching is so good. Especially the starting rotation where you have Otani and Darvish and then you have sasaki and Yamamoto. I mean, this might be like, this might be like the four best pictures in the tournament. I don't know. I'd have to survey all the other rosters, which I haven't that carefully. But I might take any of those four guys over any of the American pitchers. So that is just a amazing group. Yeah, that is nasty. I'm looking forward to seeing those kids. And I guess we should say bullpens probably matter a lot too when it comes to a tournament like this. Starters aren't stretched out at this point anyway and you don't care as much about innings and durability. So there's some good bullpen arms on the American team and other rosters too. So that makes up for it somewhat. But it's tough. Everyone's protective of their pitching and pitchers are protective of themselves and I wish there were some way that they could all feel confident about participating, but I think this is inevitable and understandable. Yeah, yeah. So we have a preview pod for you all today. We're going to talk about Christian Yelich's two teams, I guess. I always try to come up with some way to yeah, what a nice little unifying theme. Yeah, there's not always a neat little theme, but we're going to talk about the Milwaukee Brewers and then we're going to talk about the Miami Marlins, so talking to Todd Rosie aka about the brewers, and Jordan McPherson about the marwan's in just a moment. There have been some finance updates and you want to talk, talk finances for a moment. Sure, but before we do that, I remembered the other thing that I wanted to talk to you about. Oh, sure. Okay.

"So e-e-e-e-no we're here to talk to you today about two things that appear to go hand in hand baseball and beer. Typically a team called the brewers and craft brews in ballparks. But i i have to ask about something. You've been promoting on twitter. Which is your face on a beer can. How did this happen no idea. It's not something that i ever expected would happen. And it's just hilarious just heat cartoon rendition of myself. Also in a suit people point out. I'm not a suit ray. Often but yeah. I just came out of the fact that. I've been reporting on the use of sticky stuff by pitchers i've been reporting on it so long since two thousand eighteen or so that this one baru was like well. This is your story. And let's make a beer can to commemorate it so it's called sticky stuff. Ib by full tilt out of baltimore and yet my pictures on the can. It's ridiculous not just any ip pretty sure. It's a double i. It's very dankin sticky. That's what i told him to make it. I love it. Well the first topic in our agenda today is what has made. The milwaukee brewers pitching staff so nasty but before we get into the. Why can you give us some perspective on. Just how good they've been there either. The best or second best staff in baseball they have so much velocity but they also have really interesting movement and something that you know a pitching development executive from another team. Said that brewers are doing something different over there. But you know one of the ways you really wanna truly Judge someone is is actually by using projections. Projections are trying to strip away. A lot of luck and look at the quality of the players going forward. And those have the the brewers rotation as number one in baseball and the brewers of relief staff as number two. Well let's talk about the brewers starting rotation. Tell us what some of their top guys are doing. And why it's so special. Will they have a real high octane. Starting rotation to it will drip has in mind. He's going out there and he punches him out. Ninety eight mile. An hour gas from brandon woodrow brandon. Woodruff he's amazing. You came out of school. Mississippi state throwing ninety one to ninety two with the really great changeups and now this guy sits ninety six and has an awesome slider to boot to does here via sets up away a chain jefferson. Then you've got corbin burns like a ninety eight mile an hour cutter. That is just ridiculous. Barnes rings them up for. That's nasty right there. That's something he wasn't able to do last year very decisive in what he wants to do. Wow there's nobody else that throws a ninety eight mile an hour cutter the same way. Foreign burns does and the only people who throw anything. That's like it. I think of jacob degrom. He has a ninety four mile an hour slider but he jake. Degrom uses that sparingly. Corbin burns is coming at you with basically like a ninety eight mile an hour slider over and over and over again. It's just it's impossible. That's that's the word i think of is impossible swaying narrative as corbin burns ties. A major league record for consecutive strikeouts. Ten in a row. And then you've got. Freddie peralta not only throws hard but he basically jumps off the mound. There's a called strike. Three victor rask's he's got it goin' freddie peralta. Like goodness four ks already all just coming out of his hand differently. He has some of the best extension in baseball meaning that the ball is released so close to the plate that it jumps off out of his hands and feels like more than the ninety six ninety seven. He's throwing it at swing at a busy struck out number. Eight for ready peralta. All the way back. He was down and account to. And you got these different angles. These different strengths. But all of them are high. Velocity high strikeout guys. That are just in your face from the beginning in terms of a top three i would say maybe the dodgers are the only team that can kind of go toe to toe with them all right. Well the brewers have also been getting a big lift from their bullpen including some guys who a lot of baseball fans might not be very familiar with so tell us a little bit about their relief. Staff yeah you know. Some people might be aware of josh caterer at this point because he's had one of the more dominant runs as a reliever for the last five years But behind him are to really interesting arms that also speak a little bit to d advanced nature of the pitching development. That's going on in milwaukee. They've got this guy. Devon williams who throws what i would refer to as a screwball job swung on and missed out number one and a beauty rotation on that pige. Let's see many like that. He has this crazy high movement. Change the just drops off the table away from him. It looks kind of like a curveball from a left-hander but it comes out of a right-handers snow one two. He strikes out those stockists at it. Williams strikes out the side. It's called the air bender and when you have a pitch that has a nickname you know you're doing something good honestly i've gotten better at it over the years because of doing like playing around with it since i was probably ten so it's something that i've developed so yeah i don't know if i have some weird genetic mutation going on or whatever but you may be practicing of this virtual find this year jay cousins that very few people know about say hello to the big leagues jake. Cousins cousins delivers. He struck him out. There you go. We'll get the bender will slider for strikeout number one. He has some really nasty stuff. I really hard but also has really bendy stuff slider from cousins and another strikeout cousins. Tell you that is mad sinker. And his slider the divergent movement in terms of like thirty forty inches of difference in horizontal movement. So they just go flying in the opposite direction so we just talked about. You know their pitches but when it comes to watching the team play. What's your sense of the pitching staff personality. Do they have the swagger to match their stuff. Oh definitely. I think back on the fact that there's a here's a funny way to describe it but brandon woodruff wants. Hit a homer off clayton kershaw in the playoffs and yes. I'm talking about the starting pitcher his work at the plate. Something that we may not see much of the future that takes degree of confidence to go. Stand up there as a pitcher and take their their a deep like that. I don't think he touched any of the basis. He was flying around. He's got you. That ball was crushed. I think that they've actually. They're a little bit battle-tested this point where they've gone from being the upstart. Oh nobody knows about the brewers to now they're like no no no. We have the best pitching staff in baseball. Probably and we are going to have one of the best records in baseball when it's all said and done and we are no longer just happy to be here like we wanna take this the whole way. So that's what i've seen in the team over the last couple of years. Kind of mature from upstart too legit world series. Contender had only took four consecutive years to make it to the playoffs to take them serious right. Yeah whether an interesting team because the projections always say they're going to be near five hundred team and then away they did it again. Will you also wrote that. None of this happens by accident. So how did the brewers as an organization this happen. It took a dedication to the best data and tech. That's out there. They take this thing on as a wholehearted everybody on deck. We're gonna do everything we can to get the best out of the players that are in our system. They revamp spring training complex. They spent a bunch of money on a sports.

That's going on here but say number two over the weekend. Of course we had our ninth no hitter thrown here in the twenty twenty one season. This one was by. The milwaukee brewers. It was the first no hitter in team history since nineteen eighty seven. It's been since one nia vase on april fifth. Nine thousand nine hundred eighty seven against the orioles but the knife no hitter. This one was a combined. No hitter by corbin burns in josh. Hader gordon burns went to i. Eight innings of the outing. He was at a hundred and fifteen pitches through those eight innings and he came out after the game and said he had to fight to go back out there for the eighth inning. So he knew he probably wasn't going to win the battle going back out for the ninth. But josh hader came in to finish off the no hitter and complete the outy but gordon burns. He was perfect through seven innings and ultimately a walk in the seventh eliminated the perfect game and made it. Of course the ninth no hitter the nine. No hitters is the most in a major league baseball season in the history of baseball topping. Eighteen eighty four for most in a year. Now this is pending the inclusion of the negro leagues statistics. So this could fluctuate not your how many no hitters were thrown during any of these other seasons. Where eight no hitter seven no hitters were thrown to possibly get to that nine or ten mark but the ninth no hitter as of right now certainly a record when it comes to major league baseball during a year again. The first one since nineteen eighty-seven quick math twenty four years ago for the milwaukee brewers the victory in this game also pushed the brewers to a franchise best thirty three games over five hundred and had their magic magic number down to seven so burn. See fantastic it came out and say he came out and said pushing. The pitch count probably wasn't the smartest idea They're really battling towards october. And that's when things are more important than coming out after eight innings was the right move so i'm sure he fought back a little bit in the moment but after hater was able to get outs. Twenty five six and seven. Everything was good for burns and he was happy with the result so burns now on the year. After these eights no hit innings. He improved at ten four on the season. He has eight to five. Era in twenty five starts. He's got one hundred and fifty two pitched two hundred and ten strikeouts in a point. Nine one whip our walks hits per innings pitched he also has a thirty five point four percent strikeout rates which after this start was tied with max scherzer for the lead in baseball. He has a seven point one fan graphs calculated. War wins above replacement and a national league. Best four point nine percent walk rate. Of course this is. The guy who earlier in the year set the major league baseball record for consecutive strikeouts without a walk at fifty eight so corbin burns continues to push his name. That national league cy young conversation and every outing he's been better and better and it certainly fascinating to see if he can continue to push down the stretch here and have his name at the top of the list when it comes to that conversation but i did want to look at some facts and figures from the brewers no hitter. I always liked to dive into some of the history. That's taken place. Some of the numbers basically how it he volved how they were able to get it done. How dominant ultimately was the no hitter itself and born burns had fourteen strikeouts in this outing again. Up in his season total to two hundred and ten he had a career. High one hundred fifteen pitches which they didn't wanna push him they're out for that ninth-inning so But in a year packed with no hitters burns and haters no hitter certainly looks like one of the most dominant and Burns in hater. Bring major league baseball second longest team. No hitter drought to inet. The brewers had played five thousand. Four hundred and seventy three games between the eva's no no against the orioles in eighty seven in the combined. No hitter that. Took place on saturday night. The majors longest no hitter. Drought currently belongs to the cleveland indians. So the cleveland guardians they have not had a no hitter since len barker back in nineteen eighty one. And the brewers again where second on that list and now second place goes to the toronto blue jays. Dave sti- are steeb on september. Second nineteen ninety three one against the indians back in the day. So other brewers my goodness five thousand. Four hundred and seventy three games in between knows ends the second longest drought in major league baseball. Once again this was the ninth no hitter this year which is a major league record. I've talked to you guys about every one of so shout out to baseball for giving me content here to talk about when it comes to no hitters twenty twenty one season but burns ater authored the sixteenth combined no hitter in baseball history and this was the second combined no hitter here in twenty twenty one the cubs earlier this year against the dodgers back. In the month of june through a combined no hitter there were also two combined no hitters back in two thousand and nineteen had happened twice in major league baseball. Once in two thousand nineteen the astros in the angels had combined no knows thrown that year and then in nineteen ninety. You had the braves in orioles do it all the way back in the early ninety s. It was the first time for the indian slash guardians. Now we're going to get to another style with them later. It was the first time in team history that they had suffered at the hands of a combined. No hitter the Indians are getting a lot of practice being on this side of knows but man the first time they had done it for a combined no hitter but speaking of the indians there the first team in major league baseball history to be no hit three times in a single season when you are playing the indians the percentages of you throw a no hitter that day or higher than any other team in the history of major league baseball three times already this sees it they have been no hit and this also doesn't count the seventeen no-hitter that was thrown against them on july seventh by the tampa bay rays so but this number at three and a half for three and seven nights. They've been no hit three nine inning games and one seven inning game this year. The indians in guardians haven't been able to muster up a hit and they're the first team in major league baseball to have that happen to them in one. Season brewers manager. Craig counsel of course was tagged with making the tough decision to take burns out after the eighth inning..

"Still six best. The marlins rangers pirates rockies. Diamondbacks are all worse than they orioles. Ball put together on the road so just unbelievable statistic there but i got one more stat for you here. The number is thirty. Which is the number of blown saves by the philadelphia phillies this year. It's the nine most all time and remember. We got some games left here. So the the orioles at thirty most blown saves in a season is set by the two thousand four rockies at thirty four the two thousand and two brewers are two thousand and two rangers had thirty three and then there's a handful of teams with thirty two and thirty one so the phillies still have some time to potentially set that record but thirty blown saves this year beth's our worst. I don't know which way you wanna put it. Best worst for ninth worst all time in major league baseball man. Just this bullpen in philadelphia. I i can't even talk about it in detail because i'll just get too upset but that'll do it for segment number one here of the see baseball podcast brought to you by the gmc. Podcast network will step aside here now for word from one of our sponsors one of our sisters shows but when we come back we're going to talk about the brewers no hitter the ninth this year setting a record a major league baseball. We're gonna talk all about it when we come back right after this. This is your ultimate for everything. Sports.

"In this game started later too because i think they're in a rain delay earlier so Let's hope that the red sox get the victory there. That's all i care about Let's get to our dogs here. I'm gonna go on monday tomorrow night. I am taking the diamondbacks money. Line versus San diego padres in our boy chris. Paddock is back on the mound. He's taking He's going up against tyler. Gilbert for the diamondbacks now. Arizona continues of fighting games right. I mean they have one of the worst records in the league but Bavin completely given up on the season Chris like i said returns for the padres and we have been fading him all season long. Whether it's been on a total player money line play And gilbert has been dominant against the ray sorry padres a season. He's pitched eleven innings against the padres. He's allowed one. Hit in the padres are batting. Point zero through point zero three two against gilbert in that span those love inning innings so a bright spot there for the diamondbacks dumb backs are seventy nine against the padres this season. So almost around five hundred by love this matchup of gilbert gilbert versus the padres Superb be another spot. The books won't put the padres as an underdog just because it is the san diego. Padres ride fernando. Totti's junior manny machado eric. Hosmer on this team did not gonna put him as an underdog but This just that this pitching matchup favors. The favors the diamondbacks over overwhelmingly. So i dog pick will be going off tomorrow night it will be the dynamex money line versus the padres. Excellent choice please. You pick the time you'd walk five ourselves show loud adult you stop shouted diamond bucks because i actually started typing them in full. My was my lock my talk. I wanted to tell us why on wednesday night. I think it was Just feel like. I'll pick the berkshire by nine weeks So i'm modestly voided but you've got to be in on behalf anyway so i'm going to insist the this is one that we've played before tarek scruple if the tigers against oakland a.'s. And james capriles capri lead. Someone who was quite hired early in the season when he came up and it was kind of own expos and scuba is eight and eleven with a full point zero one era. His last four starts is pitch into a one point. Five nine in twenty two eatings pitched dot one point.

"G. p. Okay mood off so we are not not really good series this week whilst we going on on the bay. Data says the Before we get to that. I think are good. Luck may be turning around church just a little bit because we were talking about. Salvador perez in the home runs that he's hitting He hit another one right now. So that meant that will make six out of the last seven games. He's a home run and three straight games at easily one so You know he's up to thirty nine now so As much as as bad as we have been talking about him he or how much of a curse. And he's i can say i've been about breaking streaks. I think that we're gonna be okay this week. So salvador perez another home run for the royals are tied with the mariners right now. Two to two in the bottom of the seventh. The just goose issue. We have finger on the pulse. I'll tell you what would be really good Experimental munis Between now with the end of the show. I'm the little new hitter. Alleged just had the red sox occurring through new hitter. cleveland indians. Now the kush now we've seen it now. We've mentioned it long before we absolutely blew wide open. Feel red sox. He was pitchy tonight. How whoa so. What else that. We've we've previously mentioned israeli. Got a new hit again. I have just kissed and we'll come in seconds. I look it takes before cleveland to get the first of the night. We'll keep you could tell us what's What's happening over the rest of the state. Boston capri is not gonna be happy with you. Listen to this podcast sheets. I've got this on target is in boston. Looks like i'll do it again. Yeah getting into this week. like you mentioned the start the week here we have Put it i write down. We have obviously a huge series between the red sox. And the rays going off this monday to wednesday This this is the time for the red sox if they want to get back into this series or this division race this time. They're i think they're going to have to win. All three of these games honestly For them to climb back into the at least the lowest al east division race they are holding on to the american league wildcard spot the second spot the first one belonging to the yankees but Pretty good pitching matchups. Chris sale is going to be pitching in this game. we also have Ed rodriguez who's going in this series also so Definitely something to keep an eye on in this series and then what else. I write down Braves dodgers did you talk about that one. Yeah i'm just getting back to boston. They've kind of put themselves back in the picture with a little winning streak of three. Which looks like it's going to go..

"Your of your law of your dog. Really yeah he had the raise our run line today against Against the orioles. So he got that victory twelve to eight and then his His dog was the same as mine saying he had the nationals i five innings and that one went up in flames two so one in five week overall Which means we're probably gonna go five hundred one this week. I this only one direction for us to go. So hopefully you know were able to Get this week started right for ourselves. In at least our podcast. Because i feel like it's on life support right now because how bad we've been doing. I wish i shared your conference but Bets gave the days of tyler. Mcgill getting the for the mets. You i what am i picks last week. Yeah like it's absolutely it's preposterous. The is getting buttered states in the two of texas. That's just popped up on the strip alive trauma view if i have to grand slam in that game too. I think obviously by the by the rangers but the got the first two that game and I'm not why i'm not sure. Why dusty baker has he benches guys that are just on fire at the play. Like you don't need to give them a day off. This is your opportunity to build your lead in that aol westward. Oakland was kind of coming down. Her throat They play the yankees tonight. But i mean come on man you gotta get these ones as many as much as you can absolutely stuff. That's up then around day this week We've already but the east streak. It was agreed streak eventually came to win. you're welcome him tumble on really on the back of that street might be a little bit closer than the five and a half games the seven in the rule for the race. That's making all the difference read. I mean there's a to those two divisions that they'll be much change in the standards this week Tomlin houston juice kinda tuned indiscriminately bit. Obviously houston have gone down tonight. Buddha four and rule that seventy we're all just of all of us. Shouldn't that gap his six and a half. We've said like whoa won't week. It's just going to in tom. Borough of new york by five and a half. The other one is the dodgers. The dodgers have completed six series wins in a row. They'll they'll be seven hundred fifty beat colorado tonight little down. The giants is still in them. The giants or at six four in the ten but still got a two game lead to lose three divisions. Those top teams are hanging. Tough son francisco tampa. Houston i think. The giants are rooting. Hard for the rockies. Right now because the they dropped the game against the braves. And i believe that iraq is won the first game of this series against the dodgers. The three nasional tonight. Yeah and the four two victory. Obviously yesterday dodgers came back in one five to To hopefully the rockies are obeyed a hold on here in and you know the giants Are able to maintain that lead because i do have that ticket on the as probably many people do of the Giants winning that west division. So definitely something to keep an eye on like we are every single week and You know hopefully. The giants are whether win. This division is crazy that looked on fan graphs at fan has both the dodgers and the giants offense one hundred and two wins exactly. So it's gonna come down to those one or two games play..

They've told us for stay. At so zero zero hits pre-booked we made them look like our picks made them that pitchers at least for this weekend else. My lock going up in flames and then my dog was It went off today this afternoon. Nee nationals money. Line versus the mets guy to start with this game. Let's say i'll be biased. Holly buys it. A to run on his game in it was off. The slider wasn't even a fastball. That he's good at eating. I mean they were in this game. They were up to two one going into the fourth. But then like i said hobby buys that two run home run in the fourth inning and then after that it just kinda went up in flames. They lost the game. Nine to four so Pretty bad week. I mean bad week for sure between the four of us are sorry between you. And i scott salvage himself by going one in one So what scott. He had the opposite of your pick. Your of your law of your dog. He gave him up two hits to the yankees pitching of the yankee batters and And he didn't have a bad outing. He went five in the third Foreheads three hundred runs given up. He did have three walks for strikeout. Cra so at two point. Seven seven The yankees made a little push in that Ninth inning against our sergio romo Aaron judge in a two run home run. It's because you have to let these various levels of compounds peel away as they vault allies after you crush lupita plans and add a little heat from friction then you have to then you go back and you huff him again and you help from again and see how their aroma changes over time. That's how we do this. It's not just one grind. And you're done and brewers at grind them up and they they smell them. They smell them and they're like. Oh yeah i really liked this one and then they move on. I'm like what are you doing right. You're getting the the big blast upfront. And then you're not looking at any of the other nuances. That are buried underneath that right. Now do you give them anything to to fill out any kind of of monitoring system so that when you go through five eight ten fifteen of these. They can go back and and recognize what they were looking at. You rely on them to have their own mechanism. The really good ones will have their own notepad and they'll be taken notes They will those usually ones that have gone through some sort of sensory training. The vast majority of your boura customers have no idea what they're doing. They'll just think i'm gonna rub hops and spell them if i like them all take him. Well what does it. What do you mean you like them. So how much value add are you going to give you a brewer for experience. So are you going to teach them how to do this or you. Just gonna let them sniff them and see yeah. I don't really none of these really blown up my skirt. Why.

"In your your hop samples. Ideally their whole cone dried to eight to ten percent moisture content vacuum sealed. All the good stuff. You know that i get twitchy about so you're going to do that. Go into the brew house. Hopefully some hopefully on a non brew day because the air is going to be permeated with the smell of Stewing mall so you want to try to avoid that or go out on the tapper or someplace where you're not gonna have the sensory overload that also includes having them come out to the farm. Don't take them into the harvest. Barn go someplace else Fit because you're going to you want a clean aroma space. Think about like that. Also don't take them into the machine shed where everything smells like diesel fuel. Don't wanna do that. So that's that's the first thing you're gonna do. You want to lay out a clean space. And usually what i what i like to do. Is a large flat surface area How large is as much space as is as reasonable. I've taken up a four by eight sheet of plywood and put it on on saw horses and then covered it in plastic and paper. Because they're also going to be looking at color one doing so in color. It's interesting if you put hops on a green background versus a blue background. It will influence people's perception of what that smells like. You need to go to this degree. When you're down with brewers. I don't know how much do you wanna mess with their mind but i would. I always defaulted to a white background But just because or i would avoid like brown craft. Paper is going to make your house look like shit or put it on something contrast with the hot like blue or purple or something like that That will negate any kind of bias. There also helps with the presentation going to want to have multiple if you can ideally multiple samples of the same variety. They could be from different harvest days. They could be from different. Drying lots it could be from whatever i would say. Only do this if you could offer the brewer. Those hops from that particular subset sample like a lot. You know this lot of cascade versus the slot cascade you've got them separated and bailed that way or whatever great. If you don't then don't do that you're gonna wanna give them multiple samples of the same. You don't wanna give them multiple samples of the same lot because they may say. I like that one not that one. And then what are.

Because you own the freehold assets of so many of your buildings and a lot of the problem. we're seeing in trying to navigate and come out the other side of this is with regards to rent. So i suppose you know maybe the you'll you'll slightly on the if you're actually read any of your buildings but i presume you've got tenants that do have you got any thoughts on how we we solve this sort of problem. We've had this constant renewing of the of the sort of Moratorium kicking the can down the road. What's your experience some incident with so many properties of your own. How do we get ramblas this issue. So we forty of our pops that many london and We've got a wide range of spectrum of landlord will also be five percent of the laws of written again. The arid at When we an reopened because otherwise could have a viking too so i think landlords whipped up and think Best interests away all the landlord it. We've always believed that if we can hold licensees already dependent tenants into The pandemic They will be the ones drive our coverage coming at the other side so we've not charged any red. When will we closed ninety in off off rental their bites during the periods that we have been oakland unsafe. Aw we've only had a handful of licensees that after the business small last year we've got people that are very keen to take out when we've got fights coming forward The cops system been much criticized over the years. But i think it's really demonstrate it it's worth this. Scenario is nice Brewer landlords have recognized is crucially important to keep lices ten been much more flexible than arms likes commercial landlords If you've got new skin in the tank accept the need full rent and to my mind. The Through is not afraid of the time. bought the tai model and flexibility and the Ed But yeah going full. There is going to be attraction spice landlords in a ticket. Balance-sheets gonna take a hit the debris that will that Bolt that tenants lessees need to get through. This will be the ones that recover foster to buy view interesting. Isn't if your experiences to win you. You the boot on. The other foot is only five to ten percent of the landlords in london are actually engaging negotia if that's replicated across industry yet. I've got one landlord who's been fantastic and being very accommodating another one who's in insisting on one hundred percent ren if is only five to ten percent that are behaving clearly going to have a big issue do you think the government are going to need to step in. They seem very reluctant so far to put any kind of a path. Makoto conduct. no sort of statutory obligation. Have you seen anything elsewhere in the world or do you think they're gonna need to get involved with think. The reality is just going to have to say pans out on. A number of people won't get for really dangerous governments to interfere in in commercial contracts Fidalgo chip. It's a it's primly complicated area. And i'm not sure that we should. We look late. Lower changes during a pandemic principle of grant monies. The right way to do with this grant. Money is meant to kind of put food on able for licenses but it will contribute to their heads that the question for me is is that grant money sufficient is it enough which side notes. Not some response. That i prefer. Tea is at the higher levels of grant to to make to make those overheads including contributions tools. Rent rav tried to interfere the relationship. Think more george fine get wrong but College pause problem from one party to next. You can't say we we lessee in real Time lord it's ted problem on. That's why the eyes of tight model rectified. Quick chat problem. We buys hits. According seems to be some examples in europe. I think of some tax relief on home landlords to sort of release the pressure and then might be passed on the rateable value. Sort of issue with ground so those initial grounds we're only applicable. If you're rentable value was less than fifty one k across your businesses did did that sort of thing. If as an approximate percentage. I think i read the seventy percent of hospitality. Businesses therefore didn't qualify for the grounds in the early days. Would your position reflect that. yes. I mean certainly. We missed out on the grounds of fifty one thousand. Then you get into the state aid rules to so there. Their problems babb been addressed in the second round. "And flavour pre pandemic. i sink will take a bit at ford. I haven't i would die but a big step forward to coming at side. Okay and then you know. What does the changing based. You've got people's changing demands on where they actually go to eat drink although it fails the if you look the casual dining sector you. Have this constant churn. I suppose of new places being out and then perhaps going under or being bought out it feels like the public sector. Everybody loves their local pub. Delectably of a sense of history. How do you find that sort of that. That balance i suppose of you're making keeping pubs relevant and wanting to modernize them to the consumer. But also you know. Do you think you do actually reap the benefit by not following the trends and and not following. What's going on elsewhere in the twin. Actually staying as appropriate pub will is a very broad churches united that the Investment in writing interest lost year. So i think. A lot of provide us balance between old fantasy inherited zayn experience Good A posco drink is added. The weekend in in of an air is spending their mondays and fridays in the Humming environment. I think local could be entering a real golden looking forward at particularly strong. Local rates will be rewarded. If they've been seen to be good citizens in this pandemic good community is since i mean And hopefully we. All i can think of any number of us looking forward which hit record sales in the summer See why they get to a new level once his crisis has eased. Okay and when you say about pups being sort of in a good community citizens and demonstrating that will thing do you mean some of your places. Doing just look by local three marriages it'll sarah's but of a community era she runs the attack group. She looks softer it. Does it a living on. The range runs errands for people. But a grocery store in a tent in the gulled into takeaway. She's been Collect descriptions for people drowning Benz charities Any number of different things. What i find. Most distrusting of is crisis. There are parts of the health lobby that think that because she is a arab alcohol the thing of a villain to be controlled in the community whereas in this community the hero era For looking after Community and in chills and taught pumped. Don't buy places. For alcohol and drunkenness. does the miss goes back for generations. Pubs are by sexualizing meeting executed phenomenon and basic human. Need the congress. Face-to-face to meet at enact contact. Think that what we offer is the business as go as strong a future going forward as we've had in the past. I agree hundred percent. And i think you're right. I think that drink drink better. But but recognizing the be birthdays. Anniversaries business meetings as you say that the heart of the community do you think we've got opportunity because this it's been going on for many years that we've sort of been neglected. I guess as an industry or or it's felt that way but the industry is really sort of stood tall and proud over the last few months feeding kind of kids that local schools. I'm thinking oven. Some of the citizenship stuff you mentioned. Do you think. There's an opportunity to convince the government now of are worth because yeah if it feels like we're getting really mixed messages i suppose with the initial support thinking of furlough. He help out of lay. It feels like much less. What's your thoughts on the changing government perception of outsider Audience all is conceivable as the Taybeh look type of the cliff. Ngelo of not having a poverty that cumulative said we want the we love the bob we believe it's important to us as individuals to us immunised a and the great british public absolutely want to sold to survive and and and we will Particularly the health lobby within the government is aligned with public opinion. Here Next and i trust the libertarian instinct. The prime minister the and many other. Mba's but the sort of move towards health authoritarianism is deeply unattractive and needs to be pushed back very very vigorously but typically the people that pay all way business going instagram british public guy Britain will be very very much poor place But what is the local community and the The the teams we employ all sales. There's a huge supply chain interested in sort of you know the the the level that you do things and i think one of the reasons. The brewery is located where it was because of the ability to grow hops in the sunshine is a lot of yaw barley and hops. And a lot of the stuff you buy that come in from from british. Farmers will with the flavor profiles and changes. Do you need to import a lot of hops. Anyway to sort of Expectations send bodies british bali. eighty percent of all hopes of growing within miles of the burry But the rest are imported in the region at the title pretty sharp is can golding grind near the Soil of because of all set of schober fiene topography. We've got well drained soil. We do get colder winters hip because we're on a peninsula the northeast winds and ten to get a lot of Frost but we also get very light rainfall and dry summers today. I might say but normally normally speaking and that creates a particular flavor profile with these kent. Golding place la wyoming in utah and so on the states you get much more intense sunshine which big says very Very strong aromas can get from uso to kind of get in case people helpful wood products You've got a need to have a blend of Assaults said still for us is candy shops. Excellent good one of the other china's we come to specifically about the pandemic future so i can imagine you're three hundred pubs. How do you manage the sort of the brand. I suppose i'm thinking of the complexity of other sort of individual. I think i read somewhere. That two hundred of these pups were pre sort of seventeen hundreds or something like that. So do you know if you've walked into a shepherd named pub do you. Is there some sort of consistency of brand across them. Apart from just the bear on thinking the sort of the fail in the decade or actually work quite hard.
