‘Field of Dreams’ Game Features Drama, Nostalgia, and Kevin Costner
"Well, Iowa hosted their first ever MLB game last night on especially constructed field next to the real life Field of Dreams. Movie set Chicago sites. White Sox beat the New York Yankees 98 with a walk off homer in the ninth. The opening was kind of cool. Kevin Costner led to players through the cornfield onto the field. I I kind of dug that, and then he was on the field, and he did this little speech about 30 years ago. On the other side of that core, Um, they filmed a movie that stood the test of time. Thanks to that enduring impact of that little movie we had. It allowed us to come here again, and then he went on Is this heaven? And then, the crowd said, No, It's Iowa. It was kind of cool, though. You know Kevin Costner. I'm amazed how well he's aged. I mean, I was kind of. I thought it was like a flashback. You know, he looks really great. Yeah, and Jack Look, it was it was a good game. It was a good game. If you're looking for a little trivia question or an answer, Jose, a brave of the White Sox hit the first home run of the night into the cornfield. White Sox got the one from Jose Obre, who won from Alloy Humanities, one from Seb Zavala in the game winner from Tama Anderson. And if there's any bright side is that, MLB commissioner Rob Manfred said. There'll be another game next year.

"That no nerd in the world will ever understand like those intangibles are extremely important. And that's why. I keep going back to that two thousand seventeen team when you had guys like todd archer and matt holliday. Like these guys brought this presents. That was coming. It was just a different type of presence. And i think it was a big reason. How the young guys were able to take that leg up at the end of the year and surprise us all and make that deep run like there was that consistent messaging in in the cop house and there were. There was a lot of confidence happening. And i think that happens through the eyes in the lens of an experienced player. So it's a good thing and that that two thousand seventeen had the likes of jacoby. Ellsbury chase headley. Well veteran presents baby get overture has been there done that as much as we will completely shut in their done that got injured. They're done that experience. Wise did all these guys follows barrier too much. And that's why they're gonna he i. We've we've talked about this in the when he was just showing up in tampa in the clubhouse. We didn't even see his face but we heard rumors that what he was there. Like really do doctor is like he's he's he's like abbas aba he was still a red sox spy at that point. Yeah over under. Brett gardner starts in the outfield. this year. seventy. And a half. And i mean it's all about injury semi okay. Yeah well over. So are you saying over because of injuries or over because you just think he'll get a bunch of starts because he's brett gardner no because i think they have. I think that have and they've had for years now. Practically a five man rotation outfield so. I think they're going to continuously do that. I just think what boone. It's that you have to understand. What like boone talk. And he says things and he he always he. He doesn't really want to put this. It's kind of like the thing with. It's not out of the question comments on giancarlo stanton. He says it's not out of the question that doesn't mean he'll start in the outfield. That just means he. He might start a game or two. He's just couching his comments just in case so when he says. I don't see a reason why. Why clint frazier say he said. Clint frazier has earned the starting job. He didn't say he is the starter he said he's earned it so he's leaving the possibility that he's not the starter. Same thing with gary sanchez. He he's talked about gary sanchez. Will there'll be times. When gary sanchez will catch garrett cole this year but will he be catching garrett cole on april first. I'll i'll believe it when. I see it with my own eyes because i expect when we get those morning tweets of opening day lineup. It's not going to be gary sanchez named catching going to be cuyahoga. She maybe again. I told you this you way too much into the verbiage of what's being said. I think and i think that yes. It's a lot of coachspeak and especially aaron boone. Who understands the media. Who understands how to navigate through these questions and such. He's just going to give.

"The bases loaded and nobody out Brett Gardner, the veteran is at the plate now in the top half of the ninth inning against hand. And the tribe right now, in a little bit of trouble, see how this one pans out as again the Yankees trying to get the two game sweep Indians trying to stay alive and force again three tomorrow with police Act on the hill, Arkansas, Mississippi State Speaking of Arkansas, they're catching 17.5. Mike Leeches debut. Very successful. Nice road win down there in the by you against Ellis, you and K. J. Costello. What can you say five touchdown passes and thrown for 623 yards. In his debut. And, of course, watching that Mississippi I R should say Washington State offense for last several years while he was at Stanford. And of course, they're in the same half the north of the Pacific 12, so they got to play each other three times and Costello saying, You know, probably be fun to play for Mike Leach in at highfalutin offense. Well, he got that opportunity and made the most of it last week in his debut over 600 yards passing Mississippi state rolling over the defending national champions. So in Starkville, minus 17.5. 69 is they told her right now, 11 count on Brett Gardner, Southern Miss. Or this team just can't win a game. They dropped three straight games at home, and now they're at North Texas, North Texas. A covert casualty last week didn't have a game. They're minus 1.5 to mean green 71 a half boy Now I want to go with North taxes and Southern Miss. You've got to be careful. Make sure they don't get off the schneid there.

"Isn't this really a problem across the sport where having a good touch and feel for your bullpen? And not going on analytics not going on the stats, not goingto form understanding where you are right now, and I'm gonna feel Listen. You could make it as bad as Jay Happ was bin. He was brilliant on Saturday. It was not just good. He was He was brilliant. I mean, he was dealing seven third 90 pitches economical. Three hits, allowed five strikeouts. I did not allow a run unearned or earned over the course of his start. You look at him and the way that he's dealing is a case of Oh, alright, Well, I've got enough from J happy or do you watch the performance on the mound and say he is so good right now I can get even a little bit more. I could get a little bit greedy and keep Jay happen the game because of how well he was pitching up until that stage. Yeah, but I mean, if he was, if he took out Jay Happ, who was dealing and decided to go, Teo Nick Nelson. I'd be like, Well, you know, I don't know about that one Erin, but he went to Adam Ottavino. You know, it's like it's not. That's why I find it hard to be critical of the manager, and that moving to say, doesn't feel I would say that that's a knock example actually shows he does have a feel like for his players, you know, inputting the field, the player, maybe over the game situation, saying, Listen He's basically telling me that he's starting to get gassed right now. So I understand Tanaka. We've had this conversation. Probably before where I could see hate to do like the look in his eyes type of thing. You know that bring back shades of Matt Harvey. But you know what I think right? Like a manager knows his nose his pictures and notes his players, So I think that did show you know a touch and feel because issue with with with Boone, though, what is actually this is this has been my one criticism here. The brick Gardner. I just don't understand. I still don't understand it. You have Frasier talk. I know Hicks got the cramps and both calves yesterday, so he has to leave the game. But Brett Gardner, I know that his defense is really good, but I mean, How much more you have to see it the plate. It's been awful for Brett Gardner the season and renew of Fraser up and you have Hicks and you have talk man. I think that's a better outfield than one with Brett Gardner. And if talk man can play left, which we know we can't Well, we're right. And you know that he can. I mean gardeners. Yes. I mean, the Yankees is an organization are confident that the veteran will turn around and there you know, even though he's in a buck 76 has got three home runs. But You understand it based on what Brett Gardner is meant for this organization coming off a year last year in which he had 28 home runs, and he is a really, really good defensive player. I mean, he's a much better defensive player. Then then Clint Frazier, my guy Fraser in the outfield, regardless of position, just dates. I mean, he's just couldn't get it. Go, go Gap to gap. That's why you could play a little centerfield, please a really good left field and what could be a tricky spot at Yankee Stadium? But I'm not overly critical of Boone. I'm not. I think it's easy. I think when you look at analyze baseball games, whether it be some of the decisions by RoHaas over the weekend, or you look at it in Boone and I agree. I don't think this is one where I'm gonna hammer Aaron Boone. I get the criticism that comes along that come along his way. I don't think you should be fired. I don't think you should go anywhere. I don't think he is going to go anywhere. I think he's an unbelievable communicator. I think there are a lot of great strength what Aaron Boone does provide this Yankee organization communicate. Players get on point with messaging under having understanding, letting them know what they what he needs from them on a day in day out basis now do I think he is great at times of handling the bullpen, I'll tell you, I don't think he's a great guy that handles the bullpen, but I also think he will get better with the more experience that he does have in that dugout You mentioned I did not have an issue. I did not have an issue, taking half out of the game and going out of, you know, I think everyone that's gonna rip Baron boom for that and realizing that you didn't want to see Jay Happ making a start to begin with, and he gives you seven third innings of work. I understand people. Why, Because Jay Happ was dealing and at that stage, we're looking at the game and looking at how well he was throwing and he was in an absolute zone. Say. All right, let's ride J happe little bit longer here. Conceivably, Ottavino doesn't help the cause by giving up the game tying home run off of the foul pole Y Ramos. Now I was more critical last week with him and how he handled Tanaka. We have some MLB trade deadline news Jeff Passan reporting the Padres are getting like Levinger from the air you go. We'll talk Danny Martineau from S N Y that TV Next. Why weren't the keys The ones who are walking away with Mike Levinger will get his thoughts on the trade deadline, which eyes up at four o'clock. Well, the Yankees make a move or the Mets make a move. And you will break it all down for us. Don't go anywhere. It's loose, Baggy guys. "So my question for boom would be how much trust you have in Gardner. I think it's gonna be an interesting want to find out. Maggie and I chatted with Sweeney earlier in the week, he said. Well, it's not time now, and I grew that now would be Too much of a herky jerky decision. What if the struggles do continue, even though other guys were picking them up and in that lineup when you have other guys that are knocking at the door? For at bats and for playing time. How much trust you give Brett Gardner. The trust is going to be there for Sanchez. There's too much invested in Gary Sanchez for this organization. He's not look good up at the plate. He's had some battles, but not too many. I know Boom wanted articulate the quality of their bats after the victory last night down in Baltimore. But the Yankees as an organization, as do I. I believe what Gary Sanchez can provide. Offensively. He's the rare commodity in major league baseball from the position that he plays. And yes, you can deal with some of the defensive deficiencies. And Garrett Cole individually is trying to end that storyline and end that discussion with how much have glowingly he speaks of Sanchez. After each and every one of his starts, and he saw that during summer camp. But for Sanchez here the leash is going to be long. The leash is going to be long. You know what he could provide. Offensively, they know he could be a game wrecker. But Gary Sanchez has got to start to play up to his unbelievable talent and ability. Goodwin by the bomber's last night. I sat through that rain delay Hap State to that five. Nothing lead early. The void. Grand Slam. I'd be a little concerned about Jay Happ continuing to give up the home run ball, something that and the ball's live this year. It's got a little bounce to it, but He gave up a lot of home runs a year ago and last night's take to that five. Nothing lead early and then blink of an eye. It's a 54 games. So I'd be concerned about happen The homerun ball. You're certainly concerned when you look at the starting rotation with Paxton and the lack of velocity. But this offense judge getting going. Glaber last night gets hit on the elbow. Luckily, X rays that might have taken out of the game does have a contusion. Goodness gracious, Thank God for that. Offensively, though, this team should be pretty good and will be really good. There's so much depth to this team, but it's interesting to see how Boone handles a couple veterans. 877337 66 66 Mark Melissa's Flying solo will get a little Nets basketball Chris Carino, the voice of the Nets will join me next right here. This is Bob Solter were in discussion with team chamois on our program. She's executive director of the fresh air fund fresh air dot ORG, the website and I raised a couple of questions or issues, one to address with you before we opposed for Pete's update and a few messages, they're one of them is the idea of. For people who are interested, maybe have some abilities that they think they might be able to share with you in the way of volunteering. What kind of opportunities are there? Thank you. So we I talk about our volunteering in three ways. And I think of it as time I think if they're just talent, and I think if it is treasurer, and so we offer opportunities for folks who as individuals might be interested in tutoring or mentoring in our programs during the academic school year starting in September. And so one can if they're local based come up online to fresh air dot org as you've just mentioned and tell us that they're interested in volunteering. And so in our offices in New York City in midtown every night of the week, we have adults come in and work with our students are middle school and high school students helping them. You know, go through with supporting their math skills or reading, skills are writing skills, or, you know, on a variety of levels, and then because we help support our young people in the college, connecting process, we actually do a mentoring program on Wednesday nights, and it is a really powerful model where three to four volunteers are in a room with several students, and you sort of create this sort of many community sort of called house feeling where the mentors are helping our young people think about college. Think about life. Think about how does one write an essay, what do you look for? What are your personal skills? Do you wanna stay home? Do you wanna go away? And so there's lots of ways if you've got time to volunteer we'd love to have you, if you're part of a corporate entity and you wanna get your corporate team involved are. We're gonna say shin has a couple of staff member. Who are focused on that corporate social engagement work and again, it's everything from being camp counselor for a day, and coming up to our camps, or helping at our departures. We have amazing support from many corporate entities. And so those are ways to get involved into on tier. We have a junior counsel. So it's young people who'd like to help us raise money or of course, you know, serving as a board member of the fresh air fund its governing body of the organization, and so those are ways to help with us. Help us with.

Well, we know this, Eric, if you put brick corner in a pressurized situation where he's not run down where he does still have a little extra gas left in a tank. He can absolutely have a big moment or two for this team. I've said this over and over again. Brett Gardner at some point this year. And I think he should not be never there player on this team. He should be afford outfielder only playing a couple of days our milky Cabrera but with better town he can come off the bench in a late game situation to your point having eleven or twelve Pichit bat and win the Yankees game. And Eric not surprise me in the least. And listen. I was happy Yankees brought back. Brett Gardner and look has he been streaky. This year. Has he run very hot and cold? He sure. Thirty six. I see eleven home runs. I see thirty so more be is than c seven sixty s it's not like Brett Gardner sitting to twenty one home run. Penn RBI's. You know what I mean? Falling off. Somewhat productive. I'm not gonna say he's been a star. I'm not gonna say he's Bill better players. He's been a great replacement of very good tool player. Like you said a five you know, fielder. But when I saw Clint Fraser hit a, a, a, you know, to the shortstop the other day, and he'd even hustle shortstop Derek, grabble back to the pitcher. And I don't know if could Frazier thought the ball was foul. I mean I don't know what was going through his head. He didn't Ron. He's basically standing there in a batter's bus watching, and give Michael Caine, David Cone credit for this, because on the s broadcast, absolutely obliterated them. They look for Clint Frazier. They didn't know what the hell he was doing. And some people Eric going to be listening to his show saying, you know, you've been very hard on could Frazier. You'd be very cruel to could envision. He doesn't seem like he fits the Yankees, Eric because you watch his behavior this goes. Beyond chist a young player who's trying to find himself. He comes across at times as juvenile. He comes across at times as the pitiful punk I mean to not meet, what media after you have that horrendous game against the Red Sox in a field. That is a bad look to be members at media does that is a bad book to pay. Colin Instagram Eric. And I know some people are going to say since the Graham who the hell cares, but he's on following the entire team. The day get sent down in the minor leagues. He's up. Yeah. Yeah, you're gonna tell me that's acceptable. And that's like a mature where. No way. Why we need to move him to San Francisco with a couple of like now with a couple of picks and I think we can get Bumgarner even though he might be on the downside of his career, just like Justin Verlander had a change of scenery because his, his career was done. And then he went to the Houston Astros, and he lit it up. So I think that there's more in play right here that they brought him down because he's been killing it hit wives. It's the personality facts. It's all the things that go into them, and that's not the Yankee style. Eric glisten obviously that plays a role somewhat. But it's also the element of you know, the are now pretty Sydney outfield if Aaron judge and Giancarlo Stanton are coming back Stanton on Tuesday, Aaron judge later on this weekend. Where does couldn't Frazier necessarily fit in now that you added?.

And he is the D H Aaron Hickson center field. Batting third, Gary Sanchez behind the plate. Batting cleanup and tonight's cleanup hitter is brought to you by action carting waste removal, keeping all five boroughs clean. That exists in playing shortstop is GD gregorious glacier, tauruses at second. He is banning six Frazier in right field. Batting seven GIO or shelhah is the third base batting eighth and Brett Gardner is in left field. And he is batting ninth for Rick Renteria 's Chicago White Sox. One game under five hundred. Now that doesn't sound so hot, right. Thirty three and thirty four. They were way on a double figures last year at this time under five hundred almost twenty games under last year at this time they're a team that as somebody said to me, they're not as bad as they were last year, and they're not as good as they're going to be next year and for rent arrears, White Sox, the Ori Garcia last nights hero in centerfield. He is leaving off, Tim Anderson. The shortstop batting second Jose Abreu at first base. Batting third James McCann the catcher behind the plate. Obviously batting cleanup Eloy Jimenez is the left fielder is. Is batting v. Wellington Kostya was the is bad at six say. Ron known is the third baseman batting seventh illness Sanchez at second base. Batting eighth and Ryan. Cordell is the right fielder, and he is banning night. "I think it's a good aspect to have any DJ lawmaker who usually puts the bat on the ball is a great person to have in your lineup. But at the end of the day, I know Giancarlo Stanton strikes out a lot. I'd rather have him in my lineup than Kendrick Morales. Also, got to see what these guys doing. Let's say those, those guys never came back, and this is the team that's going to be in the playoffs. You know what? They do not. Have we get into the high level? Fresh your pack playoff games now. Right. How do you react to that? You know what I mean? That's something else you gotta factor. But we, we both said during the off season that the Yankees and Brian Cashman should try to find more guys that put that on ball and did that what you did. There were other guys you mentioned Daniel Murphy. Michael Brantley guys who do that very well. But he certainly did that with DJ LeMay who, so I agree that there's a value in it. But if a guy is far superior to another player, and I think we all agree that Aaron judge is far superior to Cameron maiden. Carlos Stanton is far superior to just Morale's. I'd rather see those guys Platt, of course I'd rather see them out there. Even Brett Gardner brick orders useful player. But I'd rather overall c Giancarlo Stanton and Brett Gardner and he's a better player. So if it's close, yeah, give me the guy with contact, but those comparisons we just mentioned, they're not close. You know, those, those other guys are better players. So I don't think it's that difficult when those guys come back apply him. Yep. Let's go to Calvin in Westchester county, Calvin. Hey guys, how're you doing? We have art Howe to point with Calloway. So my question is, we know he's in over his head as manager, even with rape women there. So can you assess his ability to manage the pitching staff? It's awful, isn't it? But you don't wanna look on Mickey Callaway guy by any stretch it imagination. And I could I would be all for a jumps to try to jump start them when making a move there with that said this bullpen is so bad. What the hell do you want me to do pitch himself? I mean, I'm sorry. I mean is bullpens, thanks? I mean, tell me tell me who you have any I don't care who it is. Maybe Lugo, as us is heart. Okay. He hasn't come back yet. What guy do you have confidence? Every one of them. I got no confidence in any of these guys. Not one guy. So what do you want me to do? What do you want me to think he could have done anything differently, as far as managing bullpen that would lead to win, but there are things that he does it make no sense, the way handle that Wendy as on Saturday night was embarrassed? What was the phrase he used his dry humping? He doesn't want to pay hall he dry hump the hell out of it on Saturday. And then he finally goes to him. Great. How about you? Go to, to start an inning as opposed to going on with guys on base. It was horrible sending I was just, I don't know what was worse. Dodger game at that game. He was close. It was very close. The reason why I actually think it was Saturday is because it happened again. It happens again. It's worse what Smith to home and Dom Smith. And by the way, I know he's got this thumb injury wherever you gotta play. I don't know for ready. I want to see this guy and I certainly against all right and pitching. But when he the home run to start the eighth inning. You know what I think you're gonna win this game really silly me silly. What that hell was? I think you remember familiar is in the game. Forget about that and anytime let's be on if a- mill you get you out of any, you got outta dating with Jake Jake went out of the game. Right. Right. Was two guys on. He got out of the Yuning at that point, you cannot put familiar back in the game. Yes. You just can't. I know everybody else's terrible to you cannot put familiar back in the game. We'll give the Mets. I think you and I both thought this weeks ago when they were five under if the Mets fire Mickey Callaway this morning, whatever fine. That's okay. I don't think he's a great manager. I don't think a good manager. But there is deeper than Calloway back. They have no reliable arms in the bullpen. Nobody. And I don't think this is floated by the Mets. I think Gary Cohn is just a really smart guy, and he brings up ideas but Gary Cohn said something that really caught my, I think it was yesterday about this bullpen, what to do to fix it. And he mentioned Anthony K, one of the top prospect, and he mentioned. You know what? One of their options could be take a starting pitcher like Anthony in great. I'm and use them out of the bullpen. I'm good with that under one condition. All of us together say that this is it for him out of the bullpen at the end of the year, starting, how Java Chamberlain like he could be right. He's a star. Well book, I'm all for that. Go sign Craig kimbrel. Okay. Well that's the easiest coz they should be right now. We should be report right now today, signed his guy. I mean look, there's a million bullpens that could use them if the Mets the Mets is still not buried as bad as they audit three games on the five hundred only five games out of first place in division, because the Phillies aren't that great either. Nobody's that great division and only four games out of a wild card. There's over a hundred games left to play. If you're serious serious about really trying to be a playoff team, this freaking year, go sign creek Kimball. I'm really bro. Go sign. It's easy easiest thing you can do easiest thing you could do more on the Mets later. Plus more your phone calls that opportunity to win subway series tickets coming up in the eleven o'clock. Kaley ended up the winner. Our oldest Chapman had the ninth inning. Save. Clint Frazier three hits including double his confidence continuing to grow. Man, you know. So I think it comes then myself, and I talked myself a lot, and I think that's what makes me to go out there and feel confident all time. "Slam by Brett Gardner brought the keys from behind to finish off the two games. Sweep of the Red Sox inching closer to five hundred while Boston falls to six and thirteen. This the Sunway of gas and power Yankees post game show. I'm Sweeney Murdy the Yankees eight nine now just one game under five hundred after this come from behind victory. And it started a little slow as Jay had dug a hole for the keys with a couple of early home runs. But he recovered pretty well, you only give a couple of singles after that pitching into the seventh inning and gave what they needed despite the rocky start, and he continued problems. He has the home run ball. Yankees weren't doing much against Nathan of. That's nothing new. They've had some problems in the last couple of years. Remember the Red Sox got him at the trading deadline a year ago, and he's he's done a number on the keys. They touch them up a little bit and made them work hard in the fourth thing. And maybe that is what? Really helped lead them to this victory. If you look at how much they worked him in a couple of those innings, especially with fourth and they scored just one run they have one run in six innings, but he the one hundred and four pitches. He only give three it's a walk. But the deep counts made sure that he was out of this ball game and Alex Corrado go to a bullpen which has been about as trustworthy is starting rotation to this point of the season, which hasn't been very good. And then the Yankees went to work seven men to the plate in the seventh inning and Brett Gardner down. Oh, two and the count launches a grand slam to bring the behind and the Anki bullpen this time holds the lead. It's the last night was a game where you saw some things. The key is really needed. They needed James Paxton to step up in a big spot and boy day deliver with those eight scoreless innings they need guys to just come up with hits. Because there were you know, the line of has been so depleted, Mike talk minute a big game. And Clint Frazier can continue to do what he. Was doing well here you have a guy like Brett Gardner is one of the leaders of this team. It's hard to lead. When you're not performing holding up your end in Gardner's had some stop and start moments this season. This was a big one. He was for three and came up with the bases loaded with one out in the seventh fell behind in the count Owen to and then launched the grand slam launched in Yankee Stadium relatively when it was just over that right center field fence, but it sure Kevin for all four runs the Yankees needed them. And it's the first time this season. They have won a game when they trailed after six sittings the is one eight such games a year ago so little over one per month. And this is the first one this season. It comes seventeen games into the season the Anki scuffling with injuries. What Brian Cashman say? The players that are here still need to perform. And some of them were doing that. Paxton hap- redeem themselves to some degree in these last two days. Paxton obvious little more than half. Clint Frazier is making the most of opportunities and Brett garden. And got himself a big hits. You had Mike talk more with the big hit last night. Giovanni ears. Shelhah is contributing the keys are getting contributions of the guys who are here right now. Which is what they needed until the reinforcements arrive until the injuries he loved and maybe by the end of the week. Gary Sanchez is back. Maybe John Carlos Stanton his back sometimes shortly after that in the line of starts to look a little more hall for now, the Enke's will take what they can get and they will take this victory over the Red Sox which came by the final of five three sweeping a brief two-game set here in the Bronx more to come here including Susan but clubhouse report highlights the game. "Now, we know what it is a little relief that it's not a surgery thing. Obviously it's gonna take more time now but a little comfort in knowing. Okay. This is what it is appears to be treatable just gonna take some time, obviously. And and hopefully, we'll get. A healthy strong and fresh savvy back for a good portion of their season. Biggest takeaway from Aaron Boone, right? There is how disappointed he wasn't Brett Gardner play. In the third inning. The Yankees had first and second nobody out Gardner try to bunt. And as he got out of the box. When Robinson Torino's got out from behind the plate fielded in through the second base to get one out Gardner didn't run at all. He ended up trying to get an explanation from the whole plan on par. Larry vanover. But whether he thought it was foul or whatever happened. He didn't run. I he he took what he thought happened, and and then waited for the outcome. It ended up being a two six three double play took the AKIs perhaps that of a big inning with Aaron judge coming up next. But that was a big play in the ball game. And you can tell how upset Aaron Boone was at one of his team leaders Brett Gardner making the play like that Jonathan Lewa went three innings through seventy-one pitches. He's not gonna be available for a while. And remember CCC Sobat the good rebounding yesterday. He is going to rejoin the rotation this weekend. So why has been sent down? Now, they won't bring Sobat the back on the roster until this weekend before he makes his start another reliever on his way. And I'm told that is going to be Joe Harvey who would be making his major league debut when he comes up for. Aaa Harvey is the forty man roster and saw a lot of action spring training with the Yankees. So he'll be the guy that comes up and takes that spot at least for well. At least for one day. Maybe a couple of days depending on what they have to do before getting Sobat the back onto the roster for the weekend Yankee pitcher struck out ten batters in this game strikeout tally. "Sportscenter allnight, ESPN radio and the ESPN app. I'm Jay Reynolds, spring training Sunday Yankees. Knowing yard half dozen times in their game against the Tigers. And Sunday on the heels of that Aaron judge Brett Gardner predicting the Yankees will set a new home run record. This season break the Mark of the two hundred sixty seven that the Yankees hit last year. Yankee's right hander Masahiro Tanaka. Meanwhile, no real issues with the pitch clock in his first spring training starts Tanaka one. Traditionally one of the slowest pitchers in the majors had no violations though, while working his three scoreless innings on Sunday. He ranked seventy six out of seventy eight pitchers who threw at least one hundred and fifty innings last year. He averaged just over twenty six seconds between pitches you only to slower than he was. We're just at Berliner and David price Tanaka had one thousand nine hundred forty pitches. Subjected to the clock rules on Sunday. And again had no issues Bryce Harper was on the field. Taking swings for the first time in Phillies gear, no issues there. Either. Great. Get in here this morning and. Hey, guys guys in the clubhouse fun on the growth there and run around. And yeah, it's it's just baseball. So I tried to get about forty to forty five at bats in spring training to really, you know, feel like I'm okay? So, you know, everybody's different every time and time and worry about seeing what I can. And hopefully get in there some just wants to the pitches. And it doesn't matter who it was from or anything like that. So just want to see that and see rotation. Phil. What it feels like to be in my cleats again today on the grass and out there. Let me take my time. I'm not going rush or anything. I don't want to rush for opening day March twenty eighth. So I was trying to take a day by day. And once I can get into a game. You know, I will. Johnny was out there on the grass. Our Pedro Gomez is in Clearwater as well. The real action was right here at spectrum. Fielding Clearwater, the home of the Phillies, and that's because their newest toy Bryce Harper took the field for the first time in a Phillies gear, and that was the part that was most exciting to everybody here. Now his day started at seven AM he had a blood test. Then he was in the clubhouse meeting really his teammates for the first time. Because remember yesterday they had an away game. He had the press conference in the afternoon. He did not have a chance to really meet and mingle with his teammates. So that happened this morning at about ten AM took the field stretched did some warm ups and then jumped right in the batting cage took six turns in the batting cage hit to all fields, which is how big league ballplayers truly use batting practice. It's to hit the ball to all fields. Not just to try to pull the ball. He did however end up hitting about ten home runs during his six sessions on the field after that out. Field drills. And then that was it. His day was basically over in terms of that. He did however have some promotional photos that he had to take for the Phillies things that are going to air on scoreboards in programs in magazines things like that maybe on billboards all over Philadelphia. This is after all somebody that has really excited the city of Philadelphia. And he says he heard him say he'll be ready for opening day with the Phillies. Sportscenter allnight, ESPN radio NFL, combine we saw some speed from the big guys on Sunday and one who pulled up lane defensive lineman, Dexter Lawrence, injuring his left leg while running the forty ESPN draft experts Mel kiper and Todd mcshay while you're ready for your pro day, obviously four nine five was potentially what he could run which is pretty amazing for a kid. It's always a three forty five will take five O five you think about it? This is rare. And you have this money to spend. And you're just not doing it, and it and. I wouldn't say they're not doing they did spend. If you look at how much money they have spent this off season, including reciting people signing, whatever it has spent some money with a spread it out instead of focusing on one big piece, and in very getting some other smaller ones, they they let the spread out in reckless way. Like, I said this to there's a realistic situation in August. I think as begin to predictions in spring training. I think Clint Frazier will eventually be a strongly fielder for this team. He's good enough. I think if he stays healthy, I think he's very motivated, and he's better than Brecher is at the age of this point garner strip. So there's a situation in about August were Brett Gardner who makes seven and a half million and DIGI LeMay who who's gonna make twelfth at rounding up five thousand dollars. They're gonna make twenty combined. Then you're gonna factor and Jacoby ellsbury he's making his twenty million. There is a situation where in August. You're gonna forty fucking million dollars sitting on the bench for forty million that could just go to Machado. The can't do that Anderson. You could not the much ellsbury, you know. You're fuck yourself there. But the twenty million what I could give the Manny. And then whatever that that sounds in my mind, I don't know the garbage you you can never you as season progresses. He's not gonna. That good year. Not at this age. We know what you're going to get. I won't you can never rationalize to me while we gave Brett Gardner seven million dollars makes no sense to me. Yeah. I here's the thing. If the keys don't get Machado Harper van basically, the Yankees front office just been lying to fans over five years because every year what kind of old us this pop pipe dream of. You know, we have they stress this luxury tax where we have to get under luxury tax. We have to tack to the point where fans bought in on it. And it's not often you have Dan's like wanting to save owners money, but the way they harped on it, and, you know, this propaganda machine, they had get an allergic tax on luxury tax, everyone, you know, the fans basically did buy on like we were last year finally under the luxury tax because that whole thing was coming with the idea that this offseason, we're gonna spend stupid, and we're going to blow pass luxury tax on. Oh, I think they're going to be over at this year, but not not necessarily if if they're able to trade sunny than they could work around with their currently over, but they could get under. So. So whatever so they're gonna be over or just under like, the whole idea was that they were going to get under once so that they could spend recklessly in you know, in the future and have it reset and everything if they don't sign Machado or Harper than basically they just had fans rooting for the cyber owners to save money. Then the whole reason that we're rooting for them to not sign max Scherzer. That's this big name took nine that. Big name was on how Steinbrenner and Hank steinburner a few extra dollars in their pocket. That's basically it all boils down to and to sell it. As like all this make the team better. And it's really just making you a little bit richer. It's disgusting. And it's really not fair the fence. I love my aunties. Love everyone on the team. I love every employee in the team. I don't give a fuck if how simul shaved some money that does nothing for me. Oh, you're billionaire. Probably you're still charging us twenty dollars for beer, and Hotoke games, you're still charging us ridiculous prices for seats. Like, I don't go. I won't you can never rationalize to me while we gave record or seven million dollars makes no sense to me. Yeah. I here's the thing. If the keys don't get Machado Harper van basically, the Anki front office just been lying to fans over five years because every year what kind of old us this pop pipe dream of. You know, we have they stress this luxury tax where we have to get under luxury tax. We have to tack to the point where fans bought in on it. And it's not often you have Dan's like wanting to save owners money, but the way they harped on it, and, you know, this propaganda machine, they had get an allergic tax in our luxury tax, everyone, you know, the fans basically did buy on like we were last year finally under the luxury tax because that whole thing was coming with the idea that this offseason, we're gonna spend stupid, and we're going to blow pass luxury tax on. Oh, I think they're going to be over at this year, but not not necessarily if if they're able to trade sunny than they could work around with their currently over, but they could get under. So whatever so they're gonna be released over or just under like, the whole idea was that they were going to get under once so that they could spend recklessly in you know, in the future and have it reset and everything if they don't sign Machado or Harper than basically they just had fans rooting for the cyber owners to save money. Then the whole reason that we're rooting for them to not sign max Scherzer. That's this big name took nine that was on how Steinbrenner and Hank steinburner a few extra dollars in their pocket. That's basically it all boils down to and to sell it. As like, oh this make the team better. And it's really just making a little bit richer. My guy fucking throws just dropped a minute and a half season trailer..
