"Rodgers is doing right now. Well it's the old recency biased thing. I think prior to the end of this season. I would have said aaron rodgers because things were going. Well he had won the mvp but since things have gotten weird and he wants out. I'm now going to say that people have had their wounds heal the brett farve situation and most packer fans would say. Brett farve is the guy that they have more fond memories of just because it's been a long time since brett farve went nuts at the end of his career and aaron rodgers are going nuts at the end of his career right now. Brett farve was the everyday man that Because aaron rodgers is bright the way is and he was talking about mental health this past week and he hosted jeopardy. I thought he did a great job on jeopardy and everything else. He's a different type of person. Like very complex. I was the word on a farm. For god's sake data mississippi wearing the jeans in shooting turkeys and all that stuff right. What was the word that the general manager. Brian guten coons used aaron rodgers. Your kid complicated. Is that what it was. It was complicated and that came from the previous general manager. Oh was it yes. And so he goes. It's a complicated situation or located fella. That's what it was a complicated. So was mark murphy. That's so green. Bay packers president mark murphy reference quarterback aaron rodgers quote. Complicated fella complicated. Don't you think tom brady's complicated see. I don't think tom brady's complicated. I think thai ladies. I think boston's right. I think it was very complicated up there in new england see. I don't think so. Not what brady it was. Complicated between robert kraft and bill belichick. I think tom brady wanted to stay there. But then once he found out the bill belichick didn't want him anymore. Don't want to spend the money yet. So that was the end of it. It couldn't pan the money because the pushing money forward. They had to take the money as the cap. They couldn't pay him what he wanted. And take the hit against the cap on top of the twenty five million which would have made it at thirty nine million dollars cap it when you play. We were complicated fella. Probably in some respects depending on who i was dealing with. You think you are. Yeah by questioned authority or questioned the credibility of certain people. Yeah i think i would become complicated. Yes but see. I think that's more of so from from my perspective for aaron rodgers. Yeah i mean. He's got one of the bright young coaches in a league and matt floor. They had nothing but incredible success the last two years. He's played unbelievably they. They have three other all pros on offense with them. They've tried to fix the defense for him. And it's one of the reasons why they've gotten this for And now all of a sudden he wants out when they finally got the thing right. Sure i to me that's complicated. That's a complicated fella. Yeah do you think that either daniel jones act will center complicated fells at this point now. I think they're still trying to well. Obviously daniel jones is still trying to find his way as a big year for daniel russell wilson complicated fellow..

But something like that. A public apology to your M V P player who has won us Super Bowl and could win you another one if you gave him a shot at it. Saying, Listen, we read the situation wrong. He's been incredible. He's out performed. Our expectations were gonna own that. We guessed wrong. He's still great. We want to invest it in for another couple seasons and and don't put everything into a guy that's completely unproven, especially when you're in wind now mode with the rest your roster. I'm not saying that, he said. He's sorry, but going into the draft, they did acknowledge that they could have handled the situation better. According to the athletic They offered him a contract months ago. That would've made him the most high. The highest paid quarterback in the NFL. And realistically, I mean, what else would we have signed it? Then you just believe the propaganda of whoever offered that out there that Aaron Rodgers before and then I mean, I trust the athletic, trusting the athletic and choose feeding the athletic that information of what Don't we know about that deal? Why would he turn it down? I don't know, because he felt disrespected the through the entire draft process. I mean, this to me is much as we could take his side. We can also take the Packer said what the heck out so they supposed to do other than offer him a ton of money. Other than that he's got a contract doesn't want to play. That's not very negotiated his deal, and they didn't which told you everything that they thought about his future, So I we also don't know that they didn't offer. We do know that they didn't offer for that. That they didn't really We're running out of time here. This is a mess. Freddie and Fitz Simmons are next. "We brought up that you were not as quick to talk about that we at ESPN are very quick talk about his and Rogers. He continues to be in the headlines, he will continue to be an ad lines. What is your take as a man who played quarterback in Green Bay from 1998 to 2000 as a man who knows the Packers organization as a man who knows our Rogers. What is your take on that situation and how it might play out? It's crazy, and I don't know I have not been following it minute by minute, Azi. I'm sure you're covering it. But you know, Green Bay is a special place and it's a different organization. Then then, you know the rest of the NFL Anyway, There's no ownership. You know, there's no like owner who could just come in and may wave a magic wand and say, Hey, this is how I want to just get it done. You know, it's just different. And it's very, very much the team is in silos like okay, You're over here and you're everything. Non football. You're over here. You're just football. You're over here. And you just You're just in scouting. Here. You're just in coaching or you're just in playing. And sometimes when you your quarterback of Brett Farve Stature or Aaron Rodgers stature. Who, really you feel like you have been the Green Bay Packers and And maybe that is true. It can feel a little funny or can feel little frustrating when you have someone who's sort of newer than you who wasn't around when you were the guy hoisting the Lombardi Trophy, making decisions that you don't necessarily Agree with it all. And so I could see that happening. I'm not in on the day to day or what's going on there in Green Bay, But, you know, you certainly hear things And I do know this the Green Bay Packers Aaron Incredible Organization Organ Organization that I feel really fortunate to have been drafted too. But I could certainly see where Aaron Rodgers is like. You know what? I don't really like all the red tape that I have to go through for every little thing. Like, why can't it just be open dialogue between me and the important people that help make decisions here? Why can't we have that? And if you don't if you if you're unable to get to that, you know, certainly the grass will look green or other places..

Are the Packers Preparing for Life After Aaron Rodgers?
"Take a listen to our friend. Chris canty who was on keyshawn. Jay will zubin. The packers are telling you that prepares you for life. After aaron rodgers one front last season was with the personnel. This front. This offseason is with the financial house and making sure that they can have aaron rodgers on a year to year proposition rather than committing cab dollars and resources to in future years so i think that this is mark murphy in his roundabout way of saying. We're getting ready for life after aaron rodgers. We don't know exactly when that is because we gave him that contract in two thousand eighteen. We're going to be the ones to determine when exactly that happens. Not the player you heard them. The packers are preparing for life after aaron rodgers. No doubt obviously. They drafted now first of all that they really liked to take jordan. Love means that they didn't decide this year. We're going to take a quarterback they. They decided within like a two to three year window. Probably when we see a quarterback. We think we will be great. We're going to grab him and that we could actually get in the draft because they usually have a good record and jordan love they grabbed. They think he's going to be the next great one. When you look at the packers time between store and brett farve but you know as pretty you know breakfast starring brett farve and then during brett forbes rain they draft aaron rogers and rogers even better than fourth. Now they have gordon love. They're preparing for life after aaron rodgers. The thing is what tom brady just showed you. Is these dudes playing to their mid forties nowadays early mid forties. "The diversities has to overcome different obstacles over the course of the year. You know, sometimes you start slow. Sometimes you you know, we had a middle middle stretch where we we didn't play Brooke. We didn't play our best. We played some really good football teams. And then sometimes you struggle a little late and you got to get it going. But His team found a way when it mattered most. This he's after hours with Amy Lawrence poor Tom Brady. He had to sleep in his daughter's bed because his nieces and nephews took over his bed on Sunday night. So the Super Bowl champion doesn't even get to sleep in his own bed. Hey, said he got about two hours of sleep, which makes perfect sense. And you could hear the rats Penis in his voice. But it is all worth it no doubt as he has claimed a seven Super Bowl title at this time, part of the Buccaneers. And while we don't yet have the viewership numbers from the Super Bowl, which I expect once they work in streaming, and they consider the places where people were watching at sports bars are out in public limited, but still there were some places around the country where that was possible. On. But for the reason Neil's that needed more time to compile the number so we didn't get them on Monday, but they will be well over 100 million. I would think Maybe the NFL and it's crown jewel. The Super Bowl took a hit, but I don't know. Even my niece who's at Virginia Tech, who doesn't know anything about football, said We tried to watch her and her friends. We tried to watch the 1st 10 minutes, but it was really boring. So we turned it off. But at the very least, the first half of the game will likely Have attracted some pretty joy Norma's numbers through halftime, of course, because that's always a piece that people are interested in, even if they don't love football, so we should get the numbers sometime on Tuesday, But here's what we know already. Not the highest rated market for the Super Bowl, meaning the metro, the city and its surrounding suburbs that had more people watching than any other. Kansas City number one Kansas City had Maura of its residents watching the Super Bowl than any other city, so in terms of percentage is guess what number two was. Not Tampa, Boston Boston Patriots fans whether you were rooting for Tom Brady to succeed or you rooting for him to fail out of the which one it is. Feels like most of the Patriots fans. I've heard from not to mention those who are current Patriots players like Lawrence Guy. We just put that conversation up on our YouTube channels. I appreciate producer Dave making time to do that. He told us why he was rooting for Tom Brady in the Super Bowl s O. I think most of the people I've heard from wanted Brady six to succeed. I feel like that was pretty much the same, though I wouldn't dare to venture a guess about percentages. But I feel like that was pretty much the same line that I heard from from Packers fans after Brett Farve came out of retirement again and again and chose to play for the Vikings, even though it was their rival. Ah, lot of Packers fans went ahead and bought a new Brett Farve jersey and rooted for him when the Vikings got as far as the NFC championship game, so I'm glad for you. I can imagine that there was plenty of intrigue in Boston but to be the number two highest rated market in terms of people in Boston tune into the Super Bowl. That's impressive more than Tab a higher percentage of residents than Tampa. For heaven sakes, 855 to 1 to 4 to 27. Um well, did you explain this to Luca? Yes. And what? I what I What I think we've done, thankfully is, I think Tom Brady's story has now beaten time because again even this year because the conversations were being had who's better? I'm watching a couple of the playoff games I did I had to see You know, Brady versus I mean, this is Green Bay Packers, Aaron Rodgers and then pre the previous week against Drew Brees and watching that saga. Now it's the homes vs Brady and I'm just sorry. I'm just that story line alone has got me fully completely interested. And, uh, I'll be cooking up my Super Bowl food on Sunday, and none of it's gonna be healthy, starting with my Philly cheesesteaks, and I don't use Swiss cheese like John Kerry likes it when he's not in his private jet omitting carbon emissions anyway, so that's gonna be pretty interesting. This podcast so select, you know, I come from the news Politics world and obviously Brett Hall of Fame Super Bowl quarterback always in the discussion of the goat, the greatest of all time. We decided we way get along. We talk about everything. So we talked. We talked football. We talked politics. You talk news. You talk culture. We We did a segment on on poxy tawny Phil and Bitcoin and traditions talking everything. Okay, So if I want to also about Bitcoin and algorithms and math problems, he lost me there, Sean. Man, I'm hang on. Help me out with this. I can't have more friends telling me to get into Bitcoin when it was nothing, and I don't stupid, but I don't understand it no matter how did you get into something? If I don't know what the hell it Isse, right. This is how they explain it, Brett, it's well, It's a crypto currency. Okay? I like that part. Can I give you the basics right now, Shawn. Here we go. Let's all right. Let's just listening to you. They're 21 million Bitcoin. Eventually, that will be the most that will ever be allowed to be in circulation. They're not all mind yet. It's about 16 million right now. Get the 21 demands is soaring for the 16 million out there when it hits 21, Shawn. They're cutting off all supply of Bitcoin. That is it. You've seen the for the rest of eternity. 21 million will be the number if the man keeps going up. If if PayPal and target all says they'll take Bitcoin, you got massive demand with a limited supply. What's gonna happen? What's gonna happen Entity? Okay, So let me explain it. And then Brett can help me with this ice. I understand the crypto currency. I understand that it's a finite amount. You're gonna get to what? 21 Million Bitcoins. Whatever the hell you said, all right. I got that part. And then I said, we'll explain it to me. How come it keeps going up and up in price, I got understand supply and demand dictating price. Then everyone gets into. Well, It's an algorithm. I'm like, Okay, it wasn't my best topic in school on algorithm. Alright, I understand in algorithms, a math problem and a math problem that never has a final answer. I have a hard time digesting bread farm. I'm right there with you. I need some like when someone says I have a quarter. Handed to me that I see that quarter I put in my pocket. I don't see I don't. I don't get something that is that I can't touch. Yeah. And you know what sucks Because you and I don't get it. We don't invest in it. And meanwhile bowling's gonna walk away with hundreds of millions of dollars in the steel like Eric? Yes. Yeah, I'm hoping to be Bitcoin billionaire someday seem right. You think I'm doing a show with exactly I feel like you. Maybe you'll vouch for everybody said we said on the show. I said, I like Brady plus three and the Under 56 a half, I said, But when I go by the way, Brett I sucky gambling, but I'm really good investing and he can't you back me up on that. Listen, I'm gonna I don't know why. And I know more homes is he's He's like the new Brady. I mean, I mean, it would be a hell of a story if he wins back to back Super bowls, right? I mean, that's huge. That doesn't happen very often. And then you got Brady was supposed to be an old man by this point who I think is performing still an extremely high level. These games against the Packers and the game against New Orleans was pretty amazing. Brett, right? Absolutely. Absolutely. Who you picking, boy, I I'm I think the favorite should be the favorite. That's the cheeks. Uh, You know everything you can about. 43 year old guy really won the Super Bowl's starting quarterback with a new team and never got the practice, with his team leading up to the season with a pandemic. Is that possible? Yes, apparently. Yeah, That's right. That's Zerit. If I was a cheese fan, that's what would scare me. Everything points to the chief. Winning. You see, the homes is is such a franchise player and Brett, You're in this category to this certain guys when when the game is on Gonna be games. I'm not interested in because the storyline doesn't intrigue me. But if it involved somebody like you or Joe Montana if you want to go or Peyton Manning or Eli Manning or or Tom Brady, you know, or somebody like Gronkowski or I mean the homes is already in that top echelon of NFL quarterbacks in my mind. So I'm fascinated and want to watch every Chiefs game. But, man, I'm watching every Tampa Bay game, so I'm torn. Yeah. I mean, I I I'm torrent to know Andy Reid is a really close friend and former He was my former coach. Way back guy. Great guy, Great guy. I had this been his first go around for a Super Bowl win. I would definitely be 100% of his corner. But I must say, I'm 50 50. Yeah, takes that's the word. I have not used like Danny and years because he hates that word like how do you guys suppose Brett Farve remembers that portion of his career going down? What has he been hit in the head so much that he doesn't remember that he did the exact and if you remember when he was leaving Green Bay, he wanted to go to Minnesota and Green Bay said. Yeah, No, no, that's not happening. We're not trading you in the division so he wouldn't got his head kicked in in New York for one year. Then they traded in the Minnesota And he actually had an amazing year. The next year member Yes, on I will also say for Brett Farve says that you know, Sean watches should just shut up and play. Brett Farve could've just shut up and play it also, but he was so fearful that his job was gonna be taken away from from this new hot quarterback and Aaron Rodgers. So I mean, he said, a lot so to suggest that the Shawn Watch singers Shut up and play. I don't agree with that, that he's making his own choice. And here's the thing cap when you make that kind of choice if you are to Shawn Watson and you're saying, I don't want to play for the Texans, I mean, that comes with a lot of slings and arrows. So if you are man enough to say, even though I have a contract through 2025 is it on then I'm going that I still want out. I to a degree. Yes, but the question becomes well What? What happened here? Right, so I can I can understand his hate, You know, you've you've committed to this organization. Part of it, right. The last lively goes Well, you know, I kind of understand. It was like, Well, yeah, that's that's the point. The rest of your stuff was nonsense. Because your own history you did anything but That's how many What was that? He's four years in a row. It was I don't know. I don't think I want to play anymore, Shawn, Watch. This is too. Dude, you have to stop. Oh, my goodness. Twitter it How about a Fresca? Mike? It's swollen. Don't you think you hear everything? And then Brett Farve has hot takes thanks for showing it. Thanks for playing that. I needed that laugh. I just burn calories. That was fantastic. Speaking of quarterbacks coming up next, we have the Tom Brady game. Well, look,.
Mahomes the rare quarterback with no weakness
"For the back on stage. Again for mahomes. It's quite a feat to be this good at this age. One imams teammate. Slave bell has only been with the chiefs a couple months clearly though. He's seen enough to determine that. Patrick mahomes could very well the the greatest player ever take a listen a great thing. More petty is. I never played these his first year. What are you gonna like popular. I think i was sitting out now. So i never played against bad but always of always washed on. I'm always thought he was like a great player. Then i came here. And then when i came here. That's when i really hit me like off like he might be the greatest player ever because the way practice. You know High goes about his business. People see the throws and things that have that he does in the game if things kind of like. I don't know there's like an accident but it's not he practices. It's so much like i wish. Obviously early practice unbelievable but my idea of thought. He's a ten before i came here now. These probably go twelve former offer running back. Brian west for joining us now brian. Good morning to you. Let me start with this. Eating people are rushing to crown. Patrick mahomes the next goat morning and you know this is going to be unpopular comment because i know we have the number one. She's saying in the world in nick right here but we are absolutely rushing to crown patch homes way too early but i understand why i understand. Why because he's had a great start to his career one of the best ever. We see the arm talent. We see all the special throws. But i want to remind you guys. Three guys bridge star drew brees and aaron rodgers. Three guys that have a combined three super bowls. Each one of those guys went to one and one thing that we want to talk about. Is that after. Each one of those guys won the super bowl. Everyone was saying they're going to be the next goat. They are the greatest of all time. They're going to go on a run. They're going to win. Multiple super bowls over and over and over. Brett farve actually made it to super bowl the next year in lost and that one so i think we have to be patient as far as how far we push these guys to saying that. They're the dote pack them host. Who has a long way to go and just to show that. I'm going to give you my top number one. Obviously tom brady ten super bowls being able to make the super bowl playing in his forties. That's amazing number. Two joe montana. Four for four in the super bowls they also achieved the rare feat of winning three in a row nineteen ninety there in the nfc championship game. He gets out by leonard. Marshall they won the super bowl that they would have won that game and then number for three. We talk about peyton manning. Mvp trophies and so we know how special peyton manning wasn't what he meant to our game. So i think we have to understand how much further patch mahomes has to go. But we have mentioned this as well if hashem aho's wins two more meaning this one and another one and then he goes on to shatter all of the passing and td record at that point. He enters the room with the conversation of the greatest of all time. At that point he inches that room. And then we say okay. Maybe it's not just about the super bowls. Maybe now we can look at the armed town. We can look at the mobility all the other things around. Just than just winning super bowls at that point when i look at it.

"So Mike Holmgren tell me a story about a time that Brett Farve made you want to pull every hair out of your head. Uh, well, I don't think we have enough time. And if you've seen pictures of me lately, you see what he did to my hair because it's there's nothing left up there. But I think probably the Atlanta game. We played a playoff game, and it was one of the first playoff games the Packers at hand for a long time, and I was in the Old County stadium. And we had not eight seconds to go with no timeouts. But I had a couple of shots of the end zone to beat Atlanta and I call the time out. He came over and I said, Look, it You know, we only have eight seconds. There's no time left so we could take two shots to get to weaken. Run two plays with Take two shots at the end zone. You cannot run and you cannot take a sack. Is that clear? Yeah, I got it. So I look out on the field. We run the play. He drops back to pass, and then he starts to run and I'm yelling. No, no! And he scores by six inches and we win the game. He dives over the attack. When we score, he doesn't score with us. He comes over the sideline. I go. I go. I'm really happy but Didn't I tell you, you know not to run and he goes. Mac. I knew I could make it and then I go. OK, It's good for you. I'm happy Check my heart rate That's so fabulous. And it's such a perfect illustration of the guy like that, right? I mean, that is a that is a perfect I'm distillation of what made Brett Farve Brett Farve and those teams so legendary and Mike Holmgren, I I am always so appreciative of your time. It's a pleasure to catch up the very best to your family. Thank you very much for this. And I hope we will do it again soon. Thank you. Also to Mike. It is nice talking with you. Thank you. The great Michael Grimm with me here on ESPN Radio. That is a great story. I'm Mike. I knew I could make it far. You could just hear him saying it and it is so him Okay before the green list for today, let me give you are fascinating Stat, which is brought to you by Draftkings, America's top rated daily fantasy app. Hambo sent me a couple of notes today that I really like and let me give you the one that sort of jumped off the page at me. We're talking about the frustration of Aaron Rodgers not going any farther in the playoffs and not making it back to a Super Bowl in all these losses. Here is the statistic that I've got for you on Aaron Rodgers today. In the games and as he has lost in the playoffs. His teams have allowed an average of 36 points. That is the highest mark of any quarterback in the sport. Going back to 1960. If you're wondering about why Aaron Rodgers is having such a difficult time dealing with this stuff it is because far too frequently it hasn't been his fault that his teams have not gone on. All right. One piece of business. Maybe we save the best for last list is.

"She just blew my head off. Aaron Rodgers does not want to reunite with Mike McCarthy endowment for some reason. I have a memory of that night ended. It didn't end. Well, I don't know. I I think Aaron has a better chance of getting back with Danica Patrick. Then he does with Mike McCarthy. Too soon. Okay. My not necessary, Mike. Oh, my God, This is Olivia Munn. How's that? Okay. Okay. Yes, we club that was the entire football conversation. My household was Aaron Rodgers. Love life. By the way. I don't know if that came up when you guys were watching the game. It did not. Yeah. Saline. Woodley is not been well reviewed by my wife. That's you. That's who was dating. Little lies. Yes. Well, that are you sure that I know that was rumored. Oh, that's not okay. Why don't know I I You don't know that No one's gonna believe what I know that that was rumored. But I don't know. I need another source. On course. My wife is a huge bachelorette fan on Jordan. Rogers was chosen in that, and she's worried about Erin's Disagreements with his family. But you're pinning that on your wife that she's a huge bachelor fan. The U Y I'm in the room. I'm being supportive of my wife by watching It's not just any game. It's Wednesday night hockey this week. Blackhawks Predators once United 7 30 Eastern on NBC, ESA Hunter in Wisconsin. My hunter, what's on your mind today? Hit Morning. Damn Good morning hunter to 20. I got worse and worse this weekend Worse, obviously losing Hank Aaron on Friday, an idol of mine, and then the Packers losing last night. I don't want to act. I get the ball with me because I'm a Packer fan. We've been winning a lot all that stuff, but Do the best quarterbacks in the history of football. 25 puts years and they have two rings to show for. It is just kind of sad. Yeah, I always wondered if we would look back on Aaron Rodgers career as to what could have been because I don't think that the Packers front office was ever offensive minded from the skill position. Standpoint. That that's all. Um You know, it'll be a shame. It's like Peyton Manning got a second. Um, you know he was along for the ride, but he got a second. Drew Brees not going to get a second. Rogers probably not going to get a second. But you would think with Brett Farve and Aaron Rodgers, you would have more than two Super Bowls to show for two of the top 10 quarterbacks 15 quarterbacks of all time. And, uh, you know, we spent a lot of time on Friday, talking about Hank Aaron in the last hour brought back an interview that I did from earlier this year in April, and I dearly love the man. I You know, It's not one of those. I didn't get a chance to cover him. I just looked up to him. I admired him. I loved his temperament. I love what he did. I love how he did it. And there was just something about he played the game. He didn't ask for anything. Hey, gave you everything. You didn't ask for anything. He was just a Just a great representative, Ambassador of the sport of baseball. I don't know if baseball did its part to return the favor and Larry King. I remember my first job. I did morning drive radio in Dayton, Ohio, and I would come in using around 4 30 in the morning. And I would listen to Larry King when he had his overnight radio show. And I just remember he would be like open phones. America, Houston. Hello. And I just was always fascinated that Larry would interview a variety of people. It was very curious about people. And, um, I wasn't afraid of asking of a strange difficulty. Tough question on D interviewed everybody. 50,000 interviews. Whatever it is, you knows We'll take a break. We'll talk to Ariel. Ryan Clark from the mother ship will join us. We'll talk some football with him back after this. Wow. I'm gonna tell you about the first time I tried to build a bar, It was meant Brownie protein bar so much better than I thought it was going to be. In fact, when somebody says Oh, it's a protein bar. I immediately go. OK, but does it taste okay? And then I had one bite of the build. Barney went. Oh, boy, that is really good, And it's really good for you. And then, of course, if I say something like this, I bring some of the bars home than my family wants it. And then my wife decided that they coconut almond was even better than the men, Brownie. And then two of my daughters decided that they wanted to dive in with the build bars. So I decided that I was going to get the build bars delivered to the studio. Well, then, Fritz, he decided that he wanted to have a built bar that I had about five bills. Yes, you did. And then I caught him. Putting the build bars in his briefcase. I caught that. Yes, I did. "Welcome back sports Talk Jason A guy claiming Subito 83605 90 is the phone number in north West Hills. It's Andrew Oncale B. J. What's up, Andrew? Hey, what's going on, Guys? Carry off, great man. Hey, So I just had one thing free all on and I know you all talk about you know the culture in the locker room and all that all the time, but I was just thinking about this the other day. The fact that if you think about all the decision one football teams out there There's only two that came to my mind better in large metropolitan areas, and one was University of Texas and the other was USC and I don't know how we're gonna get around fixing that problem, but I just wonder if the size of our city you know, it puts too much spotlight on the recurrence in the current players, and you know it's that if that causes them to not perform up to their expectations, so Yeah, I'll take it from there, saying there's too many opportunities to get turned here in the city Well, and I guess there is a if I can put words in your mouth, maybe more of a sophisticated media and you know a larger market like that's kind of weird, because I mean 20 years ago, 30 years ago, you would have thought of Austin as more of a college town than a you would be in college and state capital Mexico metropolitan area on. I think there's probably more than that, right. I mean, like a Miami sort of situation last line, I looked the situation. Like Columbus, Ohio. Columbus, Ohio is the state capital, Ohio State slightly less people than Austin, But you know, they went. They went there and they got some nutty fans. There's we know Madison. Addison's mallet in Madison's Not very big. It's a cool town. It's I like, magical place. State Capitol Party. Let's do it, man. Um, not a lot of Polish bars there A lot of broads. You know, I haven't thought of it in that way. Andrew like is it because Austin in the big city nature to it that there is, but I mean, that is that is still my biggest question. Mark. About this Sarkeesian, you know, era that is about to begin and just, you know, Texas and Texas football in general is what is it about this town and this place that seems to create extra hurdles that seemed to create problems for good coaches and good football players. You know, we have tacos on the list. Yeah. Tacos, tacos and six street doing it. Pandemic mind wiped out six street. They'll got the play have been down there. I've been down there. Let's go tonight. I think one thing has been there every night. I'm all the time. One thing's in play at that's a It's a schools have been successful lately. The Clemson's a little town, but they've got a very, very powerful head coach. Of course, saving in Tuscaloosa. Columbus had urban now they've got day so very in Very powerful coaches. And I'm not sure at those places Beano and Jason that the alumni and the big money get involved that much because income. What's what's What's the big cigar guy gonna go to saving to say what I want you to do. This saving would laugh at him. Urban Meyer would laugh at him dabble would laugh at him. We don't have that here because the big money still has an entree here with the University of Texas taking the big money donors out of it. If you're going just back to Andrews point in just the largeness of our city and the opportunities that I don't know, find trouble or distractions. Dude, If you're on a college campus everywhere is a sick street. I went toe K state, and they still had a party district. You know what I'm saying? Like on there's fun and beautiful people on all college campuses, and there's all those distractions and get trouble. Baton Rouge. He's just down the road get turned on Bourbon Street man, So it's ah, I think I think what you said it. It's Mork coming from that top of the pyramid, the powerful coach. The fact that it's you don't do that. You think if Nick's you go out and party In Tuscaloosa, or, you know, at one of those places you come in, hung over or do you're distracted that you're going to play or even practice that week? No, That's the answer. The next person is, and you know that right? Uh, yeah, I know him. Well, you know, it's it's it's. It's interesting, though, because Norman is a little place, but Oklahoma is right around the corner. I'll go on the loose is yeah. Oklahoma City is Tuscaloosa Small, But then you got Birmingham right around the corner. So there's people are gonna find stuff to do here. Everywhere everywhere, Except well, You're right. Beano. Kansas State has a big party area, but I don't know if I buy into that to tell you the truth, I don't. I don't mean to burst your bubble, sir, but without a real six treated by beating because I mean, are we going, Raymond? Checking monkey. Let's do it. Let's sell thing, Doc in monkey Man. I was on their bad list for a long time. Whoa! What? Yeah, e can't even admit it Plummets 3605 90 in north Austin. It Z Derek, I was going to turn to the NFL. I'll let you turn me there. Derek. What's up, man? Hey, sure thing. No, I appreciate you guys had me on wanted to turn. The NFL started change years here, but I know Baker Mayfield in the Browns lost last weekend. But I read an article saying that in the early years of watching Baker Mayfield he might be the next new Brett Farve and the way that he has fun playing the game and he's out there slinging the football even if that doesn't occur, interception, So lovely here, y'all steak. Is he the new Brett far to watch? Wow. I never would have thought to myself. Baker Mayfield, Fred Far. Yeah, well, I would say that's still have rather ambitious. Take if you're If you're baker, but you know, he remember. Then he'd recreated bred far photo When he was first drafted, There's like a pretty famous photo of breath. The tiger on the White Lamborghini. No, no, no, no, no. It's of him and his house talking on the phone. I think when he first got the call, it's out there. You Google the Brett Farve River Baker makes you think it's a thing. It was. Yeah, he we did The deal about Yeah. When? When Brett Farve did the horns down, too? I remember that picture bred far do the horns down. Hell, no, We didn't do the horns down E. I like that. He does have fun. He does sling it and he's got that kind of energy that you know, and let's let's see. Let's see next year. Can baker build on this and and lead that Brown's team to another, You know, divisional. Opportunity toe go into the postseason. He's got a good personality. Who does those TV ads? He's got a lot of heads, so he's got the personality and the looks. I like players that have fun. Jason. Why you trying to put the one? It's just the whole, like, you know, when you have a player who's exciting to watch, I guess, but makes a lot of mistakes. They're like. Oh, well, you know what? He's just got that Brett Farve Gino He's gun slinger. Not afraid to take chances. And I'm like, you know what? Maybe Maybe a little cautious every once in a while. I don't know that that's necessarily a good thing. Brett Farve was an all timer with all time abilities and all time arm and you know could make up for some of his, I guess. Questionable decision making. I'll call it So, Yeah, I don't know. Um, yeah, you gotta You gotta be careful. I'll say it was. We were saying that about Benvenuti to what a swashbuckling quarterback men. DeNucci is, however, said that definitely didn't ever get anything done. Duty takes formulated that on your gulf show you're talking about it comes but I'll say Baker has surprised me. This is his third year in the league right In his first year. He surprised me because I thought it was ludicrous that they took him number one overall on then last year..

"Reason, people are not grasping the concept here. I was thinking that I was making this very easy for sports fans in 2020 and 2021 on yet somehow we didn't make it plain enough as the nose on your face. We put a post up on our social media, and we've been asking you on the show. Without using words without using words. No words. There are no words. How would you describe your feelings about the football season to date and we offered you gifts means emoji is we even put them in Hashtags so that you would understand what we're looking for. No people are still writing US novels to tell us how they feel about this current NFL season, when that's not what we're looking for, So I invoked Star Wars. Of course I'm going to make you go Look for those of you who are Huge star Wars nerds like me or even casual fans. You will likely recognize this moment. You'll certainly recognize the subject. I used a GIF orange. If people get mad at me every time, which is why I keep doing it that way. I don't know which way is more proper or my popular, but I'm not changing now. So check it out and then answer our question yourself. Without using words. How would you describe the NFL season to this point, and some of you have shared hysterical gifts and means we've got some from the office. We've got Bill Belichick throwing the phone. I mean, the phone. Chuck is classic for for the NFL in 2020. We've got all kinds of really funny ones that have made me laugh out loud in my studio over the past few hours, plenty of Aaron Rodgers lots of the bills as well. Andy Reid, gapping. I mean, we've got all kinds of crazy stuff and producer Dave so I went Star Wars. Producer day, for some reason, decided he was going to stick with the Nickelodeon theme, which I believe CBS Corporation will appreciate your choice for a gift to describe the NFL season is that would be Patrick from SpongeBob? And he is just head over heels in love with what the NFL has done all season, and it's so pleased with the fact that we've gotten to where we are today. Here's my favorite thing about Patrick and SpongeBob Square pants. He's pink. Real men wear and real men are pink. I don't know. But his name is Patrick and his pink. And real men wear pink that they do. And also real men cry as we saw this weekend, Aaron Donald getting a really emotional over football been robbed this burger the week before, And yet, For some reason we saw farm or bed. Rafa's burger means crying than we did. Aaron Donald is that because people think Erin Donald might hurt them, Yeah, that's probably most of it or they think Big Ben might be retiring. Oh, yeah. Okay, Well, we have no definitive word there. No definitive word yet on Drew Brees. Though the debate continues, we don't yet know about Philip Rivers. I suspect these guys are trying to catch up on some sleep, some mental and physical respites and we'll we'll find out when they're ready to tell us And it is. It should be up to them. I hope the news is not broken any other way? Speculations? Not the same is allowing these guys the opportunity to take some space and decide what's best for them. Now, in both the case of New Orleans and Pittsburgh, I'm not so sure. It's entirely 100% the choice of the quarterback. We know what happens when the franchise leans on a quarterback and tries to get him to retire before he is ready, Brett Farve, But in the case of both the Saints and the Steelers, I think that they would take these quarterbacks again. And yet, you wonder if that might actually hamper the team. Now, I don't know for sure. We know Rob this burger can through the can still throw the ball. But there were times toward the end of the year where you could tell that the wear and tear was catching up with him. Not having a run game in Pittsburgh was definitely catching up with him in the case of the Saints there so far over the salary cap. Their window may be closed here. But maybe not. Sean Payton is a brilliant coach. He had told us a month ago that the quarterback of the future he didn't say when. But he said the quarterback to succeed Drew Brees was in the building already. Which would mean either Taysom Hill who didn't play this last weekend. Honestly, I think that was a piece that was missing Taysom Hill or Jameis Winston, who did play and did throw 1 56 yard touchdown pass on a trick play. Anyway, We're gonna wait for these guys. I have always appreciated going back to the days following Super Bowl 50. As much as all the signs in the world pointed to Peyton Manning, hanging it up that he couldn't possibly come back and play another year. Hey, was 40 years old. His physical skills have diminished because of the injuries. It was painful to watch him play at times, and this is coming from someone who loves Peyton everything that he that he meant to the NFL, not just the Denver Broncos. But John Elway waited on Peyton Manning to make that choice. The Broncos did not want to come off as a franchise that was shoving him out the door even if they wanted to move on without him. Oh, dear Lord, now looking back. That was Brock Osweiler. That was that was the bronchus Wyler off season where he chose to take the money in Houston. And it all went horribly wrong for all of his franchises as well as for the Broncos, But I digress. Jonah, we waited Sean Payton will wait on Drew Brees because breezes earned that. And I think Mike Tomlin will do the same in Pittsburgh as well. The Rooney family because been wrought. This burger has earned that and and so you be patient and you wait even if it feels like time and the walls are closing in on you. It's after hours with Amy Lawrence on CBS Sports Radio now coming up in 15 minutes. The Houston Texans shouldn't be waiting. They shouldn't be seeing what they can get in return for the shot, Watts and this is my opinion. You look even dumber as a franchise. If you trade away to Shawn Watson, then you did when you traded away DeAndre Hopkins, and you no longer have Bill O'Brien to blame. You have got to be kidding me. If you really think that the Texan should trade away, Watson, I understand he has not been happy. I get it, And we're gonna ask Seth Payne, former Texans defensive lineman now radio host with our affiliate in Houston. We're gonna ask him how bad it is. I'm gonna ask him what he thinks. But I've already told you what I think. I don't care how bad it is..

"And it just didn't get done. So I think the jury's still out a little bit on Kirk Cousins, and then obviously they also went the trade route. I mean, they have bred far they had case Keenum. So obviously you could say Brett Farve was really good for them at the time he was in Minnesota. Granted, they didn't make it to the end result of what they wanted to do there, either. But I think Brett Farve played well enough after his time in Green Bay that I think you could call that a success as well, bringing in Brett Farve. It was a big move, so they've tried everything first round picks. Trading for a quarterback and obviously the free agency, right. So George Payton, learning under Rick Spielman, and he was with Spielman at three different spots. He was with him with the Bears. He was with him in Miami, and he's been with him for Double digit years in Minnesota, so he saw everything. So I don't think that he's going to be afraid to pull the trigger and going a different route. A couple of those first round draft picks that the Vikings had on Lee got one year. I think the one that got the most was Teddy Bridgewater, and he got two years before he got hurt, then that was the end of that. So he's not afraid, if if it's not going the direction that he wants it to that he will go in a different direction. And I think if you have the opportunity to go out and get a top five quarterback that is what age 25 you do everything that you can. So that means three first round picks Andrew Luck. I'm definitely all in on that. And I even told you That I would even toss in Jerry Judy into that deal to sweeten it to make sure that that that can get done now granted, Let me just say this. I would try and get the deal done without throwing without Judy short, But here's my reasoning is toe why I would make him available in any particular deal. And obviously the shot. Watson has a no trade. So we could block coming to Denver, regardless of you offered the whole Bronco team for him, right, You know, But let's just say to Sean was interested in coming here, and I think he should be interested. Because if you look at the talent on this roster, it is young. And they're very talented. You have Courtland Sutton is the number one. And here's why I would give up. Jerry Judy in that scenario is because Tim Patrick to me last season showed me enough that he could be the number two number two wide receiver on this team. And you were gonna be successful with sudden and Patrick that you could say you don't have a burner out of those two, because I don't think anybody thinks of Of Courtland is a burner. But you did draft KJ handler who can stretch the football field, and I think he showed flashes of that last season. But Cortland sudden comes back healthy. And you have Tim Patrick in Cage, a handler, plus Noah fans. That is a lot of weapons for D Shawn Watson at his disposal, and I think Courtland sudden granted, he's not DeAndre Hopkins, but I think he is a rising superstar in this league. There's no question about that. I would completely agree. I would not I would not put Jerry Judy on the table as part of that deal of potential deal like that, right off that that's that's your ace in the hole that you're thinking long and hard about that. I mean, you're thinking. Okay. Even let's just say I'm not a drew locked believer. Someone is okay. That's fine. So drew locks a young quarterback that the Texans may or may not like what you put him in there. Because if you're getting too, Shawn Watson, you don't need drew lock. But if it's Judy, and lock and three first round picks I'm not saying I wouldn't make the deal, but I'm working really hard to make it a different player other than Jerry Juice, and let's be honest, This isn't about Drew lock it is about who does Sean watching inquest right now. No quiet..

It is the one the only Aaron Rodgers. You agree. I do agree with you, by the way, going back to 1992. The best thing that happened in that year was the birth of me, So I just wanted to get that out. There was fantastic, of course. Appreciate that You brought him shut up for the help on that one. Yes, it's Aaron Rodgers just from a pure football talents perspective. He may be the most talented to ever play, and I think you know we're starting to get arguments about Patrick Mahomes in terms of the things he can do on a football field. But Rogers is right there still at his age doing the things that Patrick Mahomes can do. There's probably three or four guys in the entire NFL that have the physical capacity to make some of the throws that he's making Right Now you combine that with his his memory, his recall his intellect, his football I. Q. You put all that stuff in a package and, Yeah, you're talking about not only the greatest Packers quarterback ever, but maybe the greatest quarterback We're from a sheer talent, perspective. And obviously other guys have one more Super Bowl championships. But if you just take in football talents, I think Rogers is the guy now. Obviously, there are a lot of people in our state that will, you know, go to the death with bread with Brett Farve is their guy, right? I think from a from a guts from the heart from a fun perspective. It's definitely farms. You could break this down in different ways. But if we're just going football town, I'm taking 12. Yeah, we're approaching 100 votes on my Twitter. Poland. It Z Landslide in Rogers. Brett Farve is actually behind Bart Starr. These are just some of the things he leads. The league in this year's led the league for the regular season completion percentage passing to these of passing TDs, which he had 48 touchdown percentage interception percentage, which is below 1%, which is amazing Passer rating, of course, the second highest In NFL history. Who's got the highest one? Aaron Rodgers Rodgers quarterback rating. I mean, you could go on and on and on. He's had a legendary season, and it is so fun to watch the Packers when Aaron Rogers is on, but that game yesterday was really a microcosm right? It zlook at a season in one game, they had their moments. They had some struggles. They overcame them and in game after game this season, Brian that's what this team did. They did what they had to do Defense offense. Overcame the obstacles and at the end of the day, they scored a lot of points. And in the case of the defense, they didn't give up a lot of points at least in the second half of the season. Yeah, for sure. Now, you know, I think the one thought I kept having throughout yesterday's game, Steven, I don't know if you agree with me or not, is I just I never felt like they were gonna lose. You know, there was never a 10.5 point game in the fourth quarter. It's I got the Packers got this. Whatever and Sure, enough of five point game in the fourth quarter turns into a 35 to 16 victory because the offense is just too talented and the defense comes up with big plays an opportune moments, and that's what I've been trying to tell you about my pet in all season long is it how many times have I said Ben Don't break right, that is them at their peak, and over the last five weeks, they've been peeking as a defense and coming up with big plays in the biggest moments, and that's good enough. I asked way, Larrabee earlier this morning on Wisconsin's morning uses said Wait. Is this a championship caliber defense, So they playing that? Well, he said, Yeah, they're playing well enough to get it done. No, you're gonna You've heard me all season long and last season's very critical of Mike Petting. His job is defensive coordinator. I'm gonna give him some love. You shown improvement. I'm a guy that always says. Show me what you can do. And in the case of this defense, they have stepped up. Whether it's turnovers. Whether it's the defense of the run against the great players like Henry last week or even my cover yesterday, they have shown improvement. The last thing they have to do for me. Is to show that they can do it at the highest level, which is the playoffs. I'm not saying that they have to win a Super Bowl, but they got to demonstrate to me Mike Pettine does and his defense that they can play at that level. That's been a problem for the last few seasons. Last few times that made the playoffs But here you are. You're set up. You've got home field some tough conditions, usually in January in Lambeau. I don't think that's going to change anytime soon. Global warming or not show me what you got. And if they can do that, then I think we're in a good spot. Yeah, And I think the key with the petting defense that you just had on Stevens is they're winning with different game plans..
Philip Rivers Passes Dan Marino For Fifth Place On NFL's All-Time Passing Yards List
"38 years old. With a restart on his career. In Indianapolis, and as much as Philip Rivers is generally a wild ride, and he is I. I've called him a poor man spread far for years. He's a gun slinger. He's got different arm angles. Obviously, he's Confident guy, but he generally has a couple moments in each game where he gunslingers to the wrong team. He nearly had an interception in this game and had a couple of balls that were off the mark. But that's that's rears. I mean to be boring, if if it was steady right that wouldn't fit Philip Rivers. Well, like it or not. He is headed to the Hall of Fame when he retires. Every time I say this people get all fired up, but it's the truth. On Thursday night. He moved into Fourth place Now Excuse me, Fifth place all time on the NFL's Career passing list. Passing one Dan Marino. With 11 yard completion. This was early in the game. He only needed a handful of yards. To get past Dan Marino. And he was well over 300. He's now it's 61,666. That's a lot of sixes 61,666 for his career. And there are only four quarterbacks who have more passing yards in their careers than one Philip Rivers. You know all about Brett Farve. Peyton Manning. Tom Brady, Drew Brees. They're so playing, they're still bound to keep racking up more yards as his Philip Rivers. All for those guys. Either Hall of Famers or bound for the Hall of Fame. So his rivers now there's a big difference, obviously, because he has not won a Super Bowl and generally doesn't have that same success in the postseason. There's still time those of you who are Colts fans. You know, earlier this year I think it was weak three was definitely the first month he became Just the sixth quarterback in NFL history. To throw at least 400 touchdown passes. And he's likely so he's sitting in that six play spot right now he's likely to pass the in Rio before the season is up and work his way to the top five. So then he's in the top five all time and passing yards and all time in touchdown passes. Of course, he's going to the Hall of Fame.
Rapper Lil Wayne meets Trump and praises his "Platinum Plan"
"Critical endorsements from Brett Farve. And are you ready for this one? Lil Wayne. Whiskey. This is more important than you think, because we've been having some fun with the fact that Donald Trump is apparently getting the endorsement of every single rapper alive. Kanye West 50 Cent too, is then shamed into rescinding Hiss. Endorsement by his ex girlfriend. Dude, he had dumped Chelsea handler. She no longer has the power to nag You. 50, of course, came out and said, I don't want to be 20 Cent under Joe Biden's tax plan, But then he got a lot of backlash. No screw Donald Trump. I don't really like Donald Trump. Little way now is coming out this after little pump. So we got little pump and Lil Wayne Lil Wayne is for those who don't follow hip hop music. He is one of the biggest Rap star is alive. He is a Packer fan. That's right. He did the remix to Wiz Khalifa's black and yellow called green and yellow. The year the Packers won the Super Bowl so What this is doing. Is telling particularly younger black voters that its okay I always after Kanye first came out as a Republican, the rapper Chance the rapper who I believe is AH, liberal Democrat but a very religious guy actually tweeted out black people don't have to be Democrats. He's best buddies with Kanye West and was sickened by all the people were just blasting Kanye's a race traitor and all of this nonsense. What this is doing is telling younger black voters. It's okay in my personal life. I've actually had two different people Come to me privately and say you don't Dan. I can't say this publicly, but I'm voting Republican. I'm voting for Donald Trump. He believes all the things I believe I can't say this because it would bring Ah, Whole lot of condemnation. And people would just call me names and all this sort of stuff, but But I am doing this anecdotal in the extremes just to people I know from two different walks of life. But It's indicative ofthe what I think is the germination of maybe a broader cultural shift that you've got generations of black voters who have grown up in Democrat controlled neighborhoods. And who have seen that Democrats don't do anything for black voters. Except ask for their votes every four years. You know who else is sounding the alarm about Michigan? None other Then Flint native Michael Moore. Anti trump filmmaker, Hard core leftist, but someone who is in touch with the white working class traditional union vote. That Donald Trump is now dominating.
Bengals at the Combine in Indianapolis, taking a closer look at Joe Burrow
"With us here from Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis where we will be all week so much going on. I'm waiting next with Adam. Schefter Louis Riddick Todd mcshay and Mike Tannenbaum just to catch you up right now. Here's what's happening today in Indianapolis. It will be a very busy week. At Five o'clock eastern though owners are expected to meet players to talk about the new CBA which could expand the playoffs and move to a seventeen game regular season. We've got forty seven. Nfl head coaches and GMT. We'll be talking today. You're also hear from SEC. Standouts Joe Borough and to a ton of Aloha who also addressed the media earlier today. Jonesboro put on an absolute show as you know on route to a national championship for Lsu setting an FBI. Single season record with sixty touchdown passes and Ditto. While completing a whopping seventy six percents of his passes and not only that but bro won the heisman trophy in dominant fashion receiving a record ninety point seven percent of the first place votes here. Our previous comments from Joe Borough on February seventeenth during a reception. For the Davey. O'brien award. He had this to say I do have leveraged the Bengals have their process and I have my process. We haven't even gotten to the combine yet. There's a lot of things that happened. Leading up to the draft. A lot of information gathered bras. Mother Robin shot down the idea. Her son does not want to play for the bengals. Saying we have no idea where that came from. It's a story out there that has created that doesn't have any substance at least from our perspective here Hasbro earlier today here at the combine. Of course I want to be the first pick. That's that's every kid's dream you know I've worked really really hard for this opportunity and I'm blessed to be in this position. I'm a ball player. Whoever picks me on my go show up? How play whoever for forever dressing? You know. I'm just not going to be presumptuous. About what they WANNA DO I. It's the draft. You guys have been covered it for a long time and you never know what's going to happen so we played a month longer than everyone else and everyone else's been training a month longer than us you know. I wanted to put. I don't I didn't think I'd be able to put my best foot forward here at the combine so I wanted to wait till pro day had another whole month of training and just be the best that I could be when everyone when. Everyone's eyes are on me. You know coming in. If you're the number one pick the teen is picking number one. Is there for a reason? So you're going to have to come in. There's going to be ups and downs and you've got to stay steady through the process. Our research tells us about Joe. Borough is his own man. He's not going to be talked into saying things for other people's benefits so if that's what he said. That's that's fantastic. I'm looking forward to getting to know him getting to meet him through. The process haven't been able to sit down with them yet. But we've got that on the horizon. We'll talk more about Joe. Boroughs plans to hold off throwing here at the combine. But might I'll start with you in terms of do you want? Do you not want to play for the being. You have any issues at all with where we landed at least at this point. No I mean as I said last week Joe Borough at the end he does not have leverage. The bengals have the first pick in the draft. If they want to draft. Joe Joe Borough. That's where he's GonNa go now with that. Said I think it's incumbent upon sack Taylor in the Bengal organization to create the Right Environment. Where he could come in and they could build something sustainable and truly transformative so. I think where we wended. Wendy is appropriate last week. He could've handled that better but to Joe Boroughs credit. I think they tweak things I think they're in a good spot now. He's been well-coached past week. Tower doesn't it. Yeah and Adema to your Do All your contacts. It appears that borough likely young he's projected pick. I still think that's where the bengals ultimately go. And they're sitting there and that's about this a team that needs somebody to revitalize that franchise and they are expected to look to trade Andy Dalton at some point this off season and so when you're sitting there in division with Lamar Jackson there in Baltimore think that they know that they have to get somebody in there. That's going to put some points on the Board Baker Mayfield Cleveland and this is going to be the pick for the Cincinnati bengals. Even Joe was considering trying to exercise some kind of leverage really the only leverage you have is withhold your services and not playing not report even if he was thinking along those lines. Let's say he's doing a deep dive trying to figure out exactly. Just what the Cincinnati offer as far as developing me as a quarterback. Could you blame him? Could you really blame him for wanting to dig? Deep on exactly what? What does the future going to look like during over the course of my rookie contract with this football team would exactly? What exactly is Mike Brown's commitment to go ahead and building out this roster around me because we all know a lot of what's going to happen to him has nothing to do with him and has everything to do with everything that's going to be around him. Just look at the past three or four drafts. And how certain players have benefited from going to certain to certain teams? Just look at l a look at the difference between jar rookie year in his second year. Sean mcvay came in. It flipped his rookie year. People were saying Jared Goff to Canada. All of a sudden his second year is like. Oh wait a minute. Maybe he's not so bad you couldn't blame him. If that was a thought Lewis to that point I also think an opportunity. If you're Zach Taylor to say hey what's happened in the past. It's irrelevant we're going to myself with you and we're going to build something great and we can't worry about what's happened before we have a lot of work to do. But if I'm the bengals if I have a hey coach Taylor. That's worked with quarterbacks. Like you mentioned Jared Goff Joe Boroughs Billy and character. That's a great opportunity for the bengals. Sino three things one. Is that if something were to go on with. The bengals is not going to happen in public and this has been addressed in the past week if it's going to happen behind the scenes so whatever we hear from this point on. Don't even don't even look at it. Don't think about it because it has nothing to do with with what is going on behind the scenes. The second thing is this guy's different cab he beats. It goes a Beatles drummer. He doesn't care what anyone else has done. In the past what everyone else is GonNa do in the future? He's going to do what's best for Joe Borough but the third thing I know about him is he's a football guy he's his. His brothers played linebacker at safety at Nebraska. His Dad's a almost four decades coach in football. He's a football guy at its core. He's from Ohio. Obviously I think when it's all said and done he winds up going in Cincinnati if he's number one overall pick but again. If it's GonNa Happen it's GonNa Happen. Not In the media. It's GonNa happen behind the scenes again. Joe Bro not expected to throw on Thursday. He said he just wasn't ready yet. Not a huge deal. Sam Darnold Kyla Murray. The last two years have opted not to throw here at the combine as well. What did make headlines on Sunday? Oddly enough pros hand measurements the measurable quarterbacks took place on Sunday on the smaller side. Love listen here's what he said after it was suggested his aunt size was small considering retirement after. I was informed that we slipping out of my tiny hands. Please keep me in your thoughts while he's got good company because here's what Super Bowl fifty four. Mvp Patrick Mahomes had to say who had just slightly larger hands than did borough my small Andrew doing great so far all right he should say believe in yet. Here's borough earlier today addressing his hands. Yeah I mean these measurements you can. You can take so much from them if it's a glaring issue on film with turnovers. Yeah it's probably an issue but I didn't have a lot of fumbles or anything like that so I just tried to make a little joke out of it I think it's a non factor I don't get paid to talk about. Measurements and analyze. The measurements like played to play football. So that's what I'm GONNA do. I look we're not gonNA make too much of this question. Well yet about what? They actually do what they're actually measuring here so worry not. We've got a ruler. We've got Louis at. I mean really what you're really trying to do is just trying to measure the expense of someone and they put it down on the ground and you actually hear about guys actually doing hand exercises to stretch their hand as wide as possible although when you're grabbing a football you're actually going to measure from the tip of the thumb to the tip of the Pinky here and this is hard because this is a hard rule and you can't really get good accurate measuring you look tired type by just under nine right. Look I'll give you a non center's Oh that's attention and would have actually done something with my. I mean what's interesting when you watch the tape of Joe Borough? There are situations where people come from behind strip him when he's trying to move up in the pocket and run. I mean that's going to happen if you have nine if you have ten inches so I mean it's not a glaring obvious problem as far as him on the football field and that's why I think it's really. It's just going to be something that will hopefully wind up forgetting about certain the biggest thing is and you know this with all of these drills you know as well. Mike you go back to the tape and you're trying to find something after the fact that says okay. Now I'm going to look specifically at these things so you're gonNA look cold weather rain and then ball security and Joe Boroughs as good as any college quarterback you're ever going to see in the pocket in terms of two hands on the ball and protecting the ball. I saw him in two thousand eighteen the last weekend. In September against Ole Miss. You can go back and watch the tape. My suit was soaking wet when I did the open of that game. It was pouring rain driving rain in anyone who says it doesn't rain in Baton Rouge on a Saturday night is lying to you. Because it poured and he completed seventy two percent of his throws with three touchdowns and zero interceptions in that game. So you go back to the tape and you try to look at these things and what the tape tells you is. He's just fine. You know I had a theory here. I have an interesting experience with hand size so I was forced out in two thousand eight. We were we trade for Brett Farve and just as a fan of sport. I can't wait to go out to the first practice and watch Brett farve throw. There's nothing physically imposing about breath and he goes out there and he's throwing Abe I've ever seen and I ask them like what is the value. Where's this philosophy comes from it? He said you know what Mike I have long fingers and I actually couple of football the way a lot of people throw a softball. I could actually be over the top and that's where I get all my philosophy from just watching my practice. It was unbelievable to watch though. I know as Lewis show. There's a tradition of how we measure hands but finger. Length is actually an underrated aspect of playing quarterback so far so far small hands but long fingers and you know what my pinky and all the time strong throwing football pictures of the five. It's easily the least important finger in the hand and I can't remember it ever being a big factor. It's all there in the grip. The pinky to me doesn't matter. It's archaic. How we're measuring the quarterback's hand span now with that. Said there's thirty four quarterbacks in the last fourteen years who have been drafted that have had hands of nine inches and smaller and really only two of them had any sort of Sustained Success Ryan. Tannehill is one of them and Jared. Goff is the other. That's it so there are thirty two out of thirty four. Who have failed. But are we going to say that he's going to the Joe Boroughs? Not GonNa have success because his hands tells me that the reason for their failure wasn't because they were nine inches weight.
The Myth of Quarterback Hand Size
"So let's talk some measurements. That's what went down today. The consensus number one overall pick Joe. Pearls hand sized came in at nine inches. Listen to this. The last quarterback that man that small drafted first overall was jared. Goff BACK IN TWO THOUSAND SIXTEEN GUYS. So that's some comparison it's annual. Nfl tradition every year were introduced to the incoming class of rookie quarterbacks. And we're told that a single measurement matters hand size but what if the metric is totally meaningless as the NFL combine unfolds in Indianapolis we investigate the connection between big hands and big production and ask whether Scouts are chasing a myth. I mean it's Tuesday February twenty fifth this is espn daily presented by ADT. Dave I was very self-conscious reading this piece because I don't know if you know this about me but I have tiny tiny hands. I have gigantic cans. Do you See come on tiny baby hands. Dave Flemming is a senior writer for. Espn his report on the NFL's obsession with quarterback hand size publishes ESPN DOT com today. So Dave yesterday was a big day for the quarterback prospects at this year's combine the annual release of the hand size measurements and the annual freak out about said measurements. Well I mean. It's like a national scouting holiday when the the QB hand size measurements. Come out because there is the belief that the distance between a potential NFL quarterbacks tip of his pinky and the tip of his thumb directly correlates to their success in the NFL. That's why we care just to give people sort of a framework here. What what is the big hand? And what is this small hand in football world red flags and NFL SCOUTING? Go up if your hand is smaller than nine and a half inches. But the guys who are said to have hands the size of Catcher's Mitts are. That's generally anything above ten inches. The normal size of adult humans hand is like eight and a half inches eight eight eight point seven five inches right now. Everyone is listening to this. Podcast is looking at their hands if they're under STEERING WHEEL WONDERING DO. I have two small hands. I've never thought about it until this very moment. Well Yeah and I think that is also part of it right that it's a myth or a theory or a legend that are virility is directly connected to the size of our hands that basically goes back to the beginning of time so in that sense. It seems logical that that we care about. How big a quarterback's hands are. What is the origin of the belief in the NFL world? That big hands equals good quarterback as far as I could tell were really took off with with Brett farve scouts and just people in general trying to quantify any way they could why this guy who was sort of a washout in Atlanta would go to the freezing cold and ice elements inside Lambeau field and become a three time. Mvp I mean. I think that's just human nature and scouting in general right that it's like whoa something weird like this happens. We want to be able to quantify it honestly. I think the there were some packers personnel. Who sort of wanted to claim credit for basically knowing in advance that he would be great because of his hand size and then what happens is human nature takes over right and people are like well. That's that's gotta be true. Look at Brett Farr for Lou peyton manning or look at Russell Wilson drew brees. I mean their hands are huge. So therefore air go right. All good quarterbacks have to have big hands breezing. Wilson are interesting examples. Because those were quarterbacks who were not universally seen as being sure things? Yeah in cases like that especially with Russell Wilson. You've got a really influential scouting and personnel department in Seattle right. That is sort of the envy of the rest of the League. And what happens is they. They can't decide. They're worried about picking him so high mainly because of his height and then one of the things that pushes him over the edge in their minds is the fact that he's got huge hands. I think the bigger the hands the easier it is to grip the football and let it rip so for me this this pointer finger right near the tip of the football and let spent basically he should be like seven foot seven if you go proportionately of for how big his hands are so the seahawks based on this data get pushed over the edge. They're like okay. We're GonNa Take Russell Wilson and then retrospectively. It's like Oh look at that. How genius that was that. We went by his hand size. And then that sort of proliferates the myth through all these other kind of envious scouting department's and the same thing for debris. I mean he's a short guy but he's got huge hands data on S. U. Y. When did you as a reporter? Who's been covering football for a long time? I start to doubt the correlation between hand size and being good quarterback I was at years ago at Jamarcus Russell's pro day at at Lsu and it was not good and as he finished up his workout. I walked out with a GM and a coach that I respected and I was like what did you guys think. That was very good and they both were like. Yeah but did you see his hands? They were huge. I think the coach even said it's like he's got an extra knuckle and I was like what that doesn't make any sense right. He could barely connect with his wide receivers on these on routes where there was no defense and they walked out of there going. Yeah but his hands are so huge. He's a can't miss prospect and ever since then really it was kind of like we need to look into this because it doesn't make any sense there have been exhaustive studies including one we did at ESPN. That went back over the last ten graphs and compared quarterback hand size to fumble rate per game and then Qbr overall there is zero correlation between the size of a quarterback's hand and their performance in the NFL. Zero correlation if anything it was in reverse the GUYS WITH QUOTE UNQUOTE SMALLER. Hands fumbled at the same rate and had a higher qbr than quarterbacks with bigger hands. It's like I don't understand. It takes two seconds to look this up to see if there's any correlation and what happens is you look at the data and you go. Well what's going on it's laughable coaches say? Oh hand size is more important than how Tala quarterback is I've read quote unquote draft experts. Who are saying you know in some situations. The size of a quarterback's hand is more important than his arm strength. What and Yes yes. It's never ending. You make a really important point story beyond questioning you know. The connection hand size measurements themselves are not very reliable. This the more you look into this it just gets sillier and Sillier and the fact that between the senior bowl and the combine and then pro day workouts on college campuses. There's no universally accepted way to measure a hand so you could go to the combine and where there's a ruler tape to a desktop and you have to put your hand down and they measure the distance between your thumb and your pinky and that's your hand size and three weeks later at your pro day. They might ask you to just hold your hand up in the air and they would spread a tape measure between your pinky and your psalm. And and that's your hand size one. You can lean into and spread your hands out on a desk. The only thing wrong with the theory of quarterback hand size is that it's fundamentally flawed on every single level if grip strength is more important. Sounds like you think it is. Why don't teams measure that? I honestly that's the million dollar question right. I think that they think that. There's a correlation between size and strength of a grip that's like measuring a kickers foot size to try and predict how long his field goals will be. I think that they think they're measuring for hand strength. And they're not they're measuring hand size and those are two completely different things. There's an entire cottage industry in the draft process of preparing these quarterbacks for you know the combine drills the interviews. Is there any preparation they can do? I can't believe I'm asking a question to make. Their hands seem larger. Yes absolutely there are players because they have no choice. That will hire your hand. Masseuses to loosen up the connective tissue in their hand just so that they can get that measurement over nine inches and sort of. Check that box off Brandon Allen. Who's now a backup in? Denver is a perfect example of that right. He went into the senior bowl. Didn't even realize hand measurement was a thing and just sorta held his hand up and they were like oh eight and a half inches. And everyone's like Oh my God his career's over and so between the senior bowl and the combine the masseuse that he was already working with spend a little extra time massaging his hand and then when he got to the combine he really concentrated on the measurement spread his hand out as far as he could and I think he got just under nine inches and again like the talk of the combine. Was this guy's magical hand masseuse. And he told me right that other quarterbacks with tiny hands we're blowing up his phone asking him what his secret was and and could they get the number of his masseuse coming up. How our brains allow this and other faulty? Nfl Scouting Practices to persist

"Kansas City cheese obviously still celebrating and enjoying life punish their MVP. Patrick Mahomes who was at Disneyworld more on that in just a few or the chiefs. They're back at home yesterday. How does it change if that all kind of your view looking forward of what you hope might be? Yeah I mean he just wanted to go other do more. You want to go out there and win more super bowls you want to go out there and keep competing with this team and You understand that. It's a hard process hard. To get there with the guys I have around me career the the attitude of the mindset to go out there and try to do this again next year. How long will it take you to get back to the people in your phone? So take a while. I'd like two hundred seventy messages right now. So I'm up to spend a whole day on a after the parade or something and have you had any chance to sort of see like wait. I don't even know who this his holy crap that's so and so. Have you had that moment. Where somebody that you've somebody really admire has reached out? Yeah I think the funniest thing is as I was looking through the messages I saw at a message from Brett Farve Peyton Manning Troy Paula Mojo Brusca. Bobby Wagner all these guys in this the have that support and from everybody from from different sports. I mean it just shows that I it was special what we did a lot of respect for those guys not appreciate in reaching out
Rob Gronkowski set to retire from football after nine seasons with the Patriots
"But rob gronkowski will not survive in the two thousand nineteen oh that sounds really morbid. But you know, what? I mean, he posts a very emotional Instagram message with a photo of himself holding the Vince Lombardi trophy in the air with confetti. Of course, he says it all started at twenty years old on stage at the NFL draft. When my dream came true. And now here I am about to turn thirty and a few months with a decision. I feel is the biggest of my life. So far, I will be retiring from the game of football today. And he goes on to to thank Bob Kraft and Bill Belichick. He says my life experiences over the last nine years have been amazing both on and off the field. The people I have meat. I know he meant met autocorrect damn autocorrect the people I've met the relationships. I've been. The championships. I've been a part of I just want to thank the whole New England Patriots organization for every opportunity. And he goes on and on with few more thank yous it was truly an incredible honor to play such a great established organization. Eight able to come in to continue and contribute to keep building. Success? And of course, Tom Brady who does use Instagram and Facebook as well responded. He's always one of the first I feel like he either has people who are watching for anything that might be related to him even remotely or he spends way too much time on social media one or the other. But this was a moment that was speculated about not just this off season but last off season, and we'll see whether or not it sticks. Are you confident that rob gronkowski retired completely or do you think he'll pull a Brett farve or maybe he'll pull a Jason Witten? Either way. Do you think he will return? Every time. I look up on the TV. I see this. Montage of incredible rob gronkowski football plays. And also a lot of videos of him dancing, some without a shirt. That's what will remember about rob gronkowski that and the growing, spike? Remember, he's incredible catch late in Super Bowl fifty three with the patriots a three time Super Bowl champion. And also a four time first team all pro five time pro bowler. Nine hundred seventy nine touchdown catches. And some postseason records. So in sixteen playoff games. He had eighty one catches. Over eleven hundred yards and twelve touchdowns and think about the number of games he missed when he was
Best of The Herd: 01/16/2019
"I four or five years we were on this big thing for four or five years. I kept hearing this argument. Era. Jurors goat Brady second or Brady one. Rodgers to greatest all time apparently Joe Montana. John Elway never existed. Peyton Manning never existed. I always said. You do get it. Like, Tom Brady's got a room in his house full of trophies. They're not that stupid argument. And then I had something I said something during the middle of this year. And I said the it was perceived as a hot take I said the eight best quarterbacks I've ever seen in my life. It's not just about Super Bowls. This is about talent playoffs records your impact to the league. Your impact in the city. What did you overcome? What did you play with the eight best quarterbacks? I've seen again. There's a lot of different. It's Peyton Manning. Tom Brady Joe Montana. Terry bradshaw. John elway. Dan marino. Aikman and breeze. Now. People said you're just saying Troy Aikman. Oh leadership playing hurt toughness dominating a great division. When Washington giant in Dallas pout, those eight best quarterbacks, but the one that got people worked up is drew Brees was a hot take. Was way Rogers, and I said he's right on the outside right next to Brett farve and Steve Young and maybe Dan Fouts. And isn't it interesting? Mr. I'm crazy hot take. Right. I was whoa. You're and I said, no, let's talk about impact to a city. Whereas Aaron Rodgers was given a championship roster a championship level head coach and championship momentum in front office. Drew Brees was given the Cleveland Browns with a port Katrina bountygate. One guy was given the laughing stock of the league that had one playoff win in the history of the franchise. The other player was given arguably the most iconic franchises in the NFL with championship level players. Great momentum terrific front office. Very good head coach. So that's not close. Also. Let's go through four or five things. If drew Brees wins this weekend and goes to the Super Bowl, and they are favored and most people like the saints. If drew Brees get to the Super Bowl. And if he does against Kansas City or New England that again going to be a field goal game. If drew Brees wins the Super Bowl. And again, they're favored at home this weekend to get their Super Bowl titles against Aaron check breeze. NFL records, not close check breeze impact on a franchise. Drew Brees folks is the saints. To Aaron Rodgers is arguably not the Packers best quarterback ever impact on the franchise is not close leadership qualities. I don't know. One guy has former teammates constantly calling him out one guy is revered where three hundred pound offensive lineman. Literally do we have the tape? This is what happened when an offensive lineman Zack street retired recently for the past eight years I've played in front of the most prolific passer in NFL history. Drew Brees has been the single greatest
Did Green Bay Packers coach Mike McCarthy deserve to get fired?
"Is not to say that Mike McCarthy didn't deserve to be a head. Coach is not to say that he did a terrible job because he did it. He's proven to be a good coach. And it may very well be that he deserves to be someplace else. I'm certainly not gonna sit up here and say that Mike McCarthy doesn't deserve to be a head coach in the league as long as Jason Garrett, and Marvin Lewis is still head coaches in the league, I'm not gonna do that. I'm not gonna do that. Especially Marvin Lewis. These Jason gave wanna play off game is more than I can say for Marvin Lewis hasn't wanna play off game sixteen years, Mike McCarthy's a Super Bowl champion. I think that ultimately the indictment against Mike McCarthy is very very simple, ladies and gentlemen. When you are coaching. Arguably the greatest talent we have ever seen at the quarterback position in NFL history. You gotta have more than one Super Bowl championship in more than one Super Bowl appearance to show for it. You have to have that Mike because he didn't have that. You can't have Arron Rogers questioning the play calling. You can't have him chagrined over the personnel. That surrounding him ask why that's the biggest defense that I have for Mike McCarthy. He he isn't the only one that needs to needed to go. I think I don't have any problem with Mark Murphy, the presidency yo for the Green Bay Packers going. I mean, you don't wanna had Ted Thompson up in there as a GM before you put. We assign them to consultants position. Brian Khuda Kint good a cancer. We don't know what he's capable of. He clearly wants to move into different direction and have his own guy. That's fair enough. But under Mike are under under a Murphy, you had a regime that did not respect ariza's enough. Didn't show him the courtesy and respect you deserve. You got rid of the quarterbacks. Coach alexan- pelt. You didn't even consult with Andrew with Rogers. How do you have a quarterback coach and not consult with Amer Rogers before letting him go? How do you do that? How do you do that? I remember one time I was told Aaron Rodgers walked into their office. They told him to get the hell out shut up. You play. We run organization. That's how this works really, really. I want to walk around here and act like you know, what Aaron Rodgers listen. He's not having a greatest year. Yeah. Absolutely. Right. He's not in that. Absolutely. Right. Eras is not having the greatest year. Nobody's gonna make that defense. He's not gonna make that defensible himself. He ain't blind. He could see understands, but we're talking about eras who will who will saunter who will cruise into the hall of fame first ballot without question. And gentlemen, Aaron Rodgers has twenty one touchdowns and just one interception on this season. And that's a down year for him. That's how lethal he is. That's how great he is. We are talking about a man with a career ninety eight and fifty five and one record. We are talking about a man, then it's completed sixty four point eight percent of his passes. First career. We are talking about a man that has done this at the frozen tundra lamb Lambeau Field for his career, and he is still passing over forty two thousand yards. We are talking about a man that's exceeded. What some would label top-five quarterback in NFL history who's passed over seventy thousand yards and Brett farve. And nobody would tell you that bradfo was better than that Rogers. That's how great Aaron Rodgers is. That's how great Aaron Rogers has been. And so guess what? If he's not feeling a coach, if he's not happy, or whatever the case may be you better pay attention.

Brett Favre: 'Mike McCarthy is an excellent coach'
"Brett farve came out in support of Mike McCarthy this week. Oh. La pressure on Aaron Rodgers earned. Unlike him Brett says he is an excellent coach that might hurt. The I think Mike is is an excellent coach they have to win. And I think when and hurry or something may happen there earns playing outstanding. And really keeping them in games. Their defense is really at times looking really good opportunistic aggressive, but I don't see that. I see a lot of potential. I just think that they're underachieving little bit right now. Okay. Of course farve connects with Mike McCarthy, first of all the personalities old school. Little stubborn their cut from the same cloth. The other thing is McCarthy saved Forbes career Mike Sherman was a bad NFL coach Green Bay was four and twelve McCarthy came in and turned it around in two years. They went eight an eight and then went thirteen and three. So, of course, farve loves him. He read I'd love a boss to if he resurrected my career ours loves him. The second thing is never forget this McCarthy use. Used to be in San Francisco and his Greg Jennings. Told us the former Packer he didn't love Aaron Rodgers coming out of college. The thing about Aaron Rodgers and Mike McCarthy that people miss sometimes who's the number one overall pick the year Aaron Rogers came out Alex Smith who was his offense coordinator, Mike McCarthy. And it would just be so random in Aaron we'll take a shot at Mike like, oh, yeah. Like how you picked Alex Smith. Yeah. Yeah. Okay. So listen farve is gonna love McCarthy. Same personality cut from the same clause resurrected his career. And there's no question that Aaron Rodgers is a different dude. The McCarthy he inherits McCarthy McCarthy is farve guy and McCarthy wants passed on him. I I'm not a grudge holder. But I don't forget stuff, I forgive. And I don't forget about I'm not a grudge holder. But if Aaron Rodgers is like can come guy. He's right McCarthy's kind of afar of guy and so. Farve comes out and says I love Mike McCarthy. I totally get it completely absolutely explainable. I do think McCarthy and Rogers twelve years in time for divorce. There are always hear horror stories about bad divorces McCarthy will get under job, Aaron we get a more progressive offensive mind. It will all be good Aaron have after this year. Another good for years. I'll be last physically Khalil Mack twice a year. Biking's defense twice a year. But Aaron's going to have an ice for years after this year. They're not gonna make the playoffs this year.
