When she famously and rather colorfully vowed to impeach President Trump before she was even sworn in. But her challenger in the upcoming Democratic primary says calling Trump names does not help fix Detroit's problems. City Council president Brenda Jones says she's running because voters want a different tone in Congress. It will allow me to not embarrass the people in the 13th Congressional district. The majority African American district is one of the poorest in the nation hit hard by job losses and the Corona virus. Jones announced in April. "Like a widow by slapped my chest as hot as I can to get me in state, but it works every single Tom note. Tony does this too. I think he was a power move is at right, Brenda. Yeah. I think that's what he calls it. But like, you slapping, your chest to imagine if you were going into a meeting or you're going to get new clients or you were going to do something. And you did that that's your that's your anchor. It literally anchors those feelings emotions to you. What's interesting before we go on this interview in this podcast? I did the same thing. But mainstay so makes complete sense. This is amazing such good stuff. Wow. Well, that's really cool because some people have anchors that are music. I mean, I'm very drawn to music. You're not always in a place where you can just crank the music or crank your power song. So sometimes it's just a matter of getting up where you are. And just dancing it out man, like dance shit out of. It's. Or pistol very lonely. If you Don out right true and people like that's just weird. I'm like well do at once tell me how you feel. Yeah. But I think most people kind of want to be stuck in that self pity's. Don't want to be grateful. I don't wanna dance it out. Like, a rob a beat this miserable and unhappy what most people do right? Yeah. Hundred percent 'cause I mean being miserable and unhappy takes less effort. Yes state. The other thing is like most people, and I'm sure you guys run into this. You ask somebody like what they want out of life, and they go, I don't know. Well, how you can get there. I like delay compare this to like GPS, right? Yes. Has three components your current location in your destination and the path to get there. If you don't know where you are currently located how does your GPS work. It doesn't it becomes useless. So stop focusing on the past stop worrying about the future and be present. Because it's your present moment that creates serum as ING future. All areas of life, not just money and success like every area of your life, yet that makes sense what you think anxiety so prevalent in this day and age because so many people that we speak to experience it myself. I'll hold my hands up and be honest and transparent. Now, I've had a lot of anxiety in my life. But why do you think anxieties is so prevalent in society Brenda because we're constantly focused on the future? When I was going through my life changes like my divorce. I was so anxious which is why I turned to the booze because it helped shut my brain off because I was constantly emigrant have enough money is gonna work out. Emma, going to be single for the rest of my life. Like Imigran be low than him. Seventy we focus on the future. Which is why? Anxiety, depression, tend to come from futures thoughts. Right. But I gotta let go of that. And just not don't go there. Yes. Yet that makes complete sense. And it kinda makes sense to if somebody is really serious about transforming unday gets up. Will you will you say enough is enough that probably it will be a good idea to seek out. Someone like Brenda Jones stood. A help because you've been number one. But also you the proven track record. That's why as I mentioned already jasmine in Iowa can with you right now. And we would just can before we dumped on this putt costs. How brenda's given us a kind of meditation visitation Sadie that we listened to before bed. We only been doing it for a couple of weeks already. I'm not just saying it because you're you're live on this puck off right now, Brenda I feel a huge shift right now just in my mindset, and when I wake up first thing in the morning, so I know that this stuff absolutely works. And I know that the subconscious mind is wide open fussing in the morning and loss thing at night. And that's why you told us to this. Tha that audio before we go to sleep. And isn't it, isn't it? Correct. That your subconscious mind is still out putting while you're in at sleep. Oh, absolutely. So when people are like so the programs. I create are designed to help people sleep..

"You're hearing the Frank Beckmann show. News talk seven sixty WJR. Richard. So we know that in the it was a confusing situation during the primary when the John Conyers seat was up for grabs. Sure was because you had you had the arrest of his term this year to be filled out by the person who won the election for that. Who has Detroit city council president Brenda Jones? Then there was the question could she serve both the council and congress for the last couple of months of the year and the answer came out came back. Yes. Now retreated to leave won the primary for the race to be the democrat candidate next Tuesday in the general defeating Jones. Right. Exactly. And so she had to leave is, you know, everybody's been thinking she's a shoo in and she's going to be the first Muslim American woman to serve in congress. And you know, there there's been a lot of talk about that. Will now Brenda Jones has thrown a little wrench into the ringer. She has received assurances from the state that she can run as a write in candidate next Tuesday against retreated to leap, I'll Mike Duggan for mayor. And apparently she's going to do that. And the I don't think everybody's happy about it. Let's find out from Jonathan Kinloch, you know, him as the chair the thirteenth district Democrats. He's been with us many times on the show before he's on the other end of our line. Now Jonathan good morning. Jonathan. Good morning. Frank. You are. Oh, you just love and the Saint you just. Look. This is one of the strange ones of all time here. Oh, gosh. It never ends and the thirteenth. No. But basically what to say is a fly being thrown into a fan. This is going to go absolutely nowhere seven days before the election this writing campaign. So why have you spoken with Brenda? No, I'm trying to walk a fine line. You know, I'm also chair the Wayne County board of canvassers, then it's our job to actually tabulate write in votes. So I have not reached out to her. And she hasn't spoken to me. But you better believe I got a lot of phone calls from everybody else. And what are they saying? What's what's the consensus? The biggest question in Texas. I receive have basically asking why it's seven days before the election. She's a democratic nominee on the same ballot for the parcel time. But to leave is the democrat for the full term, and how do you be a democrat? And then choose to run as a Republican against the democrat on the same ballot. It makes no sense. I mean, we're the Democratic Party. We had him as shrimp shack. There should be some sense of unity and call and focused towards making sure that Democrats went up and down the slate when you're talking about a week before the election. Well, exactly Hattie bass shrinks. That was good. I liked that. Thank you. So so so what what happens? What is what does this do to the race? Do you think what it does is? It just creates a distraction me getting phone calls asking. So what do we do? What you do? What you we have planned? That's vote the democratic on tickets straight up and down. So it just creates a conversation that we necessarily should not be having around this upcoming election. And that's unfortunate. I did get a call earlier today where some folks were saying that she's doing this. But I had not heard from her, but they say that she's doing this. So they her vote. So the write in votes can actually be tabulated because without filing an affidavit those folks wouldn't be tabulated, and she wants to know how many people actually wrote her name Anne. So it's it's an ego thing. I don't know. Just all politics of sort. Yeah. Well, that's a good point. Glad I didn't it and you did. So. Running as a Republican. Right. She just she just right in independent. Correct. She's writing an independent, and that's that's quite confusing. I mean, you're not the only one everyone's asking the question. Why why why at the end of the day the voters decided in August who would be the democratic nominee for the parcel, which is Brenda Jones hurt and the full term, which has receded to leave. And but what's even more interesting? Frank was on Friday at President Obama's at the rally, the Gretchen, Whitmer and garland Gilchrist rally where President Obama spoke. They both came and spoke and address the audience talking about unity, and it was amazing we leave. And then all these fall calls happened about this right in the next day. And I found out that right before they went up on stage. That's one receded to leave found out. So she really had an excellent game face. She was actually he had that. Well, I've been losing my mind. This is Hettie may shrimp shack. I just can't get over that. This would happen a week before the election that no, no, no, no. I I it's disappointing. But at the end of the day, Frank we're going to stay focused. We're going to make sure that we have the necessary turn out to have a successful. When next next Tuesday. No matter this slight distraction. All right garland, go crystal. Yes. I do. Yes. I do. Okay. He would say he won't talk me. Okay. I understand what you do Frank. How did he do nothing? Tom. But here's what I wanna know. Tell me tell me about him. What qualifies them to be to the to be the Lieutenant governor? Well, you know, we have a citizens government, first and foremost, he's a citizen of the state. He has been very engaged in this community. You know, and you know, he's not only does he have public experience, you know, working in the public sector. But also, he has, you know, experience working in the private sector as well. The Lieutenant governor as we both know is a support to the governor. And at the end of the day, he's quite capable of supporting and assisting in the messaging, that's an important to all working families, helping to carry the message of unity and of of empowerment across the state of Michigan. Now, leave me alone. Please right now. I know 'cause you gotta you gotta go pick up your order it Hattie maze. I'm hungry. I bet you are. Thanks for coming on as always been. Thank you talk to you later. All right. Take care. Jonathan Kinloch the chair the third and now let's check WJR's.

"Up right now. Good. And he was gonna go. So what's next? Oh break. Some of those, you know, planned in the future coming down the two right now we've been kind of working with. Voters now politicians because they have a proposal to Jerry. Okay. Yeah. Let's talk about that. Because some of our listeners may not know what that proposal is. What is it? What what is it, which if I vote this way what's going to happen? This way. What's going to have somebody go go? What's football's essentially, the way I understand it is that with proposal to if you vote. Yes, on what you're doing is basically transferring the redistricting power from the state legislator to an independent redistricting commission. The commission would have thirteen members four Republicans for Democrats, and then five independence, and they would be the ones who actually would then redraw the district lines all done out in the public as well any data that they use any techniques all those are open to the public and the public would also be able to submit their own maps and other data as well. So it's all in the public I'll out in the public sphere. If you voted no to that proposal. You're basically saying. For that power did remain at this. Okay. So I guess my. Okay. I'm gonna be the difficult person in a row. So I don't understand why they just can't take it. It just north south east and west is draw some lines just get just do that where people land they land. They don't they seriously. Why can't they just why did it have to be redistricting in the first place? I don't know. I think that's my question. District. The name gerrymander actually comes from salamander because that's the way the lines. Look, they snake around makes no sense. It's not by your communities by how you vote. Yes. Yes. District fourteen and fifteen which is Deborah Brenda Lawrence. And now is I think is Brenda Jones. I don't know if she took the position for thirteen. I think Brennan Lawrence has fourteen I think Brenda Jones has thirteen or something like that book the way, it is the can't are indoor intermingle really really twisted up, really bad. So like across the street from where I live that saw that will be kind yourself seat. Live is Brenda Joneses. I mean, excuse me, it's Lawrence's seat. And if you go a little bit to the right of me, that's kind of your seat again. But if you go back to the little bit over I mean, it is really like snaked out where you sit back and you look at that map. I was just like who did this who was whoever thought to who thought? This was a good idea. Yeah. Always asking why are we redistricting there? I understand that you do it maybe because the population just gets out of control. Now, we got one hundred thousand people in or a million people one little bitty spot under one little bitty district, and you may want to split up because of that. But this say the case here, this is just kind of really weird, right? I think the main motivation behind it is to get yourself re elected. Yes. So if you have to districts that are next to each other, and like three of them vote blue and one of them votes red if you put all of the blue areas together, then now it's just one district versus another district that makes sense. Yeah. Makes sense. Yeah. Exactly. The nazis. Yeah. Not a politicians pick the residents themselves did like them. Under the current plan. They're the ones that drought lines, right? Right. So let me see I need you to vote for me. But you wobble for me. But you to wheel kit. Yeah. In the other district to drive across your new district to vote to we're gonna make it tough. Yeah. I mean, that's okay. Lou. Even the phrasing. If you us they're like, why did we decide to do that? We didn't though they did whoever currently controlled legislator. They're the ones who get to draw the line, right? Which is why it's such a big deal because then the party in power, obviously wants to stay in power. Stay a career politician. Right. So it's like, and then they get to do that behind closed doors. And it's like, well, why would they do that? Because then your vote doesn't matter that we can just carve up. However, we want because we know especially nowadays with the data. You can get from you can just perfectly pixel perfect. Oh, we're gonna carve this out. So even if you had a thousand people voting against you doesn't matter because we literally silenced your voice. So that's just like the what is that the emergency managers for the city's wind date of Michigan voters? We see it. No, correct. We say, no. And then all of a sudden, hey do law. We can have we're gonna have missed. Wait a minute. And I'll be honest with the people that exactly. That should be illegal. That's the people have spoken. Be going. Hey, I don't I don't want a WalMart built here. The people said we don't want to WalMart in Michigan. We'd like, no none. And then the legislators come up. Oh, by the way, we're gonna put fifty warbucks in Michigan and give them a tax break. Right. Yes. Yes. Yes. But we don't wanna wall. But other sudden is talk about having a wall. Yeah. Yeah. We got that's worth billions of dollars. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Country to be on the road. The.

"The euro award at this twenty ninth annual breakfast here at beautiful Cobo center in the mayor sitting across from me, we already spoke to him here. And you heard him I have been saying all morning long. This is an especially good award. And especially sweet moment for you. Because this is the Edward h McNamara Goodfellow of the euro award, and you are protege. He was your mentor for many years, you were a young man when he kind of took you under his wing and taught you a lot. Now, he made me deputy county executive when I was twenty eight years old. And I was in the room when he came up with the idea for this breakfast, the goodfellas were huge part of his life, and he and Coleman young first year co-hosted. And when you listen to the two of them, the sixties or seventies. At that point talk about when the police officer showed up at their door with toys and the way their eyes would light up sixty years later. It's remarkable. How important this initiative is we never roll out the kids, but we have lots of kids that are adults here. Now who readily admit that that was the only prison they got for Christmas that year. Yeah. And Ernie Lofton, great UAW. Vice president was one of the leaders every year. He would say it was the one day of the year. We're happy to see the police at the door. You had you had a whole bunch of folks with very different backgrounds. We're all United by that same experience of the goodfellas gifts at Christmas. Yeah. You had a very special happening last night where everyone's United in the neighborhood. You went right to the people who would be affected by things in the people spoke with one voice. It was remarkable. Of course, we're talking about the Ford project at the train station in council president Brenda Jones. Had initiated something to the voters ultimately adopted, which is called the community benefits ordinance where the only city in America that has one and what it says is when you have a major project before the tax breaks are considered by council, you meet with the neighbors to see what they want because they're going to be most effective. And so you have a neighborhood committee of nine people a few pointed by me a few appointment of counsel. And if you elected by the neighbors themselves, and they held a dozen meetings where they talked about what are we want? Let's preserve our parks base. Let's preserve our low income housing. So people aren't pushed out, let's make sure Detroiters are trained for jobs, and after a dozen meetings last night, they voted nine zero. You mentioned this. When was the last time think of your your own neighborhood was the last time you had your neighbors all totally agree. But right, right at at this is the way the process was designed which you had some people who said open spaces, the most important thing to me others who said, hey, these are going to be technology jobs. We need to put some more money in the Detroit public schools. So our children can get the kind of science training others said I don't want. My neighbor who's renting at a relatively low rate to be pushed out and Ford and the city addressed all those issues the satisfaction of all nine members. And that's the way it should happen. We'll bring in five thousand jobs and seven hundred fifty million dollars investment into a neighborhood with the neighborhood leaders are unanimously saying we wanted, and I just my hat's off to Brenda Jones and the process that she initiated, but we're proving this can work. Well, you know over the years I've introduced you to then introduce and give the award to the recipient this year. Introduce Brenda Jones who will then give you the the award. Yeah. And you know, I think about, you know, the days when I sit there the day is is pretty young beheaded watched Ed McNamara. Coleman young. And so there's lines that came on guy. What Brandon are not nearly as funny as the no question about it. Nearly as funny as those those two and Brooks Patterson, I think probably politicians I've what lighters. You know, we're at a class by themselves. So it probably won't be funny. But it'll be just a special, and and you know, Brooks is the only one left. He's the only one left standing, and it's tough for bricks because the things that those guys said back then that were funny people don't laugh at as much anymore. It's kinda sad. We'll also stuff that is funny. As it used to be. You two aspects of that. I'm just saying that, you know, generational. The things that used to be okay and used to be funny are not anymore. I mean, you'll give me that. There's no question that, you know, with all the social media, and the the immediate reaction to everything that said that's just the reality that we live with. But you can complain about it or you can you could do better move with it. I try really hard not to say things that would cause somebody inadvertently to be bothered by anything else going on. We should know about Mr Mayor before we let you go and get up on the diocese. No. I'm very excited to come and get this award and go right back to work. It is extra special. Isn't it? Ed McNamara award. It definitely definitely is it brings back a lot of memories. And you know, we still last two nights ago. We're watching the Detroit Lions beat the patriots and Ford field that was built never would build. Ed McMahon had been county executive. And so you think about the impact that he still has. Of course, every time you fly in and out of metro airport. There's a terminal wouldn't be there if it weren't for McNamara. And and this is a nice reminder naming the award the goodfellas award after what are you going to do with the award? Where are you going to put it had a Cup with my picture on it before I kind of walk yet? So it's nice all with where they become the the Goodfellow of the year. There's a coffee Cup waiting on every table. And it does. In fact, have the recipient in this case mayor Mike Duggan face on that. It's funny. There was a little disorienting committed. But now we gotta spot in the shelf at the Manoukian for it. And it'll it'll be a welcome addition. Congratulations to you and to Laurie and the old news boys Goodfellow fund of Detroit, presenting our city of Detroit mayor Mike Duggan with the Edward h McNamara Goodfellow of the year award if this twenty ninth annual tribute breakfast that Mike Duggan Hispanic from and supportive of from the beginning. Congratulations. I'll see up there. All right. Thanks seven fifty four it WJR seven fifty five five minutes away from eight o'clock, WJR, traffic.

"Next day and man they're they're and guarantee stuff, is, is bulletproof and, again they don't advertise They should. I just share good information with you that's what we're all about here we're we're. About, adding value to. Your life it's what we. Do here it's it's not. Scratching item that is a, straight up top shelf. Stuff that we do. Here let's see what I just lost track of what the hell I was, doing this oh it's. A Dave Dave welcomed. On the, edge thank you I requested Yeah. I'm waiting what's the question I'm looking, at my official ballot still vote and I find Brenda Jones name here under the Republican party. And twice under the? Democratic, Party how does that work. Well I wouldn't, have a clue first of all I. Don't know who Brenda Jones is I don't know what she's running for what the ballot as you're, looking at what the district is. And I don't have? A, clue I. Mean is there What's that Okay. That's fine my other question is is I talked to you the other day about John. J. away we're not done with this. One yet I wanna know What what is she running for. And what district Okay State Senator six district Brenda Jones under, Republican where's the? Six where's the sixth? District? What what's what's the? Geography, well we're in, Wesleyan. So Me think about this guy you're in the sixth, district I mean I'll talk to you about the candidates when you say district six I wouldn't have a clue. What we can slow down but so she's running for what. State, Senator she's running under with. Two separate party designations that that's not right I would. Call up and find out what that's all about well that's what I was wondering she's on, here in three? Places twice for the? Democrats? And once for the? Republicans, in the same, office Pardon for the same office State Senator. Six district Representative in congress. Thirteenth district. Legislative? Stay center sixth district Well, hang on a second let's take the slower and what I'm asking, you is is this woman who listed in three places under to party designations she running for the same office. Less Senator something? Else or she running for Republican for. Senator democrat for dogcatcher what. Is it Well I guess he's running. Republican and democrat At the same time I know that but as she, running Republican and democrat for the same office maybe. They're, three different women with the same name Okay I'll. Buy that okay I wouldn't buy it here's what I do, and I'm dead serious about this when you whatever Hanging. When, you get off the. Phone it's too late, now because they all went home at four thirty You? Want to call your city clerk and you wanna, say w. t. f. what is this who's? This. Woman why she listed like this before you vote now. What was your other question about John James okay I talked to you the other day about John James. I remember you talked to so many people that I don't know People I don't know but anyway go ahead Okay Now that Trump is back. Him does that mean anything, to you, know because let me finish, it slow you down. To I have to get a Marlin Perkins in here with Jim in. There Dart and tranquilizer This is what you. Do to me you read. Me up man hang. On. A second okay here's the deal Trump's. Endorsement of John James means nothing to me and it should be nothing. To anybody else and here's why Trump endorsed Luther strange when you should have, endorsed MO Brooks where we take number of cases on this and what did we? Wind up with we wound up with ROY Moore splitting everything, up the middle and we wound up. With a democrat so how did that Trump endorsement work? Out for you Not. Good yeah now here's why Trump's endorsing John James and here's why Trump is endorsing Bill Schutte because. He's playing the he doesn't know, anything about John James he has. Known anything, about Bill Schutte I'm, sure he likes the fact that John James playing the odds. As black and they'll. Stand a good chance of beating a woman I mean I did you know that factors into it that definitely factors. Into the people in Washington talking to him about this now I if John James makes the cut I'll vote. For him but the bottom line is is I don't think he's. Necessarily the best candidates that's just me. Personally now you on judgment. On this but the. Trump. Endorsement is irrelevant and again Donald Trump. Right now and I had a long talk with Corey Lewandowski about this. They're playing the odds I get that they want what they consider to be, the safest bet because they want as many Republicans as possible I agree with that? Strategy and they also want they consider to be the person, best positioned to do that they're not. Looking at the best candidate which really sucks and pisses Me off and. I told loan dusky. That but that no that's that's it he's getting the advice to say okay here's the guy that looks like he's. A shoe and so we want to back because he is he's a Republican that's it so he's not saying. Oh John James is the best candidates sorry I'm not buying that That's what I wanted, to, know, I was rather shocked when. I, seen the advertisements so They're all saying that by the way they're all saying that I mean shoot he's acting like Trump's. Is best, friend like they ended up, doing shots together in a strip club, or something I mean I gotta tell you again. It's? It's a numbers game with Trump? And I, get that. Because he, needs Republic yet what what are they used. To say Burma Bailey Circus therapy, Barnaby say we got to put. Asses in the. Seats that's what Trump's trying to do put Republican, asses in the seats that's what's going thanks for listening. To my show by the way are you going to call comback and let. Me know I wanna know you. Report back to us and find out what that. Multiple And I also want, to say that I'm one hundred percent for Patrick well..
