Doug Assesses the Kennedy v. Bremerton SCOTUS Case

"Let's go back to this court case out of Kennedy, the Bremerton school dish. This is about a prayer case. As a chaplain in the United States Air Force, it is a pastor and others I have dealt with these issues a lot. We have determined that there is this inseparable many people in this country believe this is inseparable. Idea of church and state that neither of the two shall meet. And the truth of the matter is is that what the founders and framers says that they'll show me no establishment of religion and the government can not force or prescribe the methods of religion that are found in our country. In other words, you're free to worship and free to express that any way you can. It is not the government's job to establish one over the others, not the government's job to promote one or the other. In fact, the government's job is to protect your freedom of expression, your freedom of speech as it comes forth and the rights. Dictated. And even if that means that if you are a government agency or you have people inside your agency who are expressing their freedom of speech and their freedom of expression, as long as that is not in a sense expressing that for the government itself, then you're okay. But this has been the problem. Nobody wants to deal with it. They're doing this this discussion back and forth and we have the Gorsuch finally putting this to rest. And this decision is a 6 to three decision saying that this coach who is praying after a ball game on his own after the game was not at the time inviting others. He wasn't requiring anybody to pray with him. Of course others would join him and gather now to pray. Was okay because as gorgeous as the Gorsuch said that Supreme Court is made playing that there's no automatic establishment calls violation when a public school or other government anti fails to censor private religious speech.

Supreme Court Sides With High School Football Coach

"I want to talk about the coach who was praying at center field, coach Joe Kennedy. I think it's Joe Kennedy. We got a clip of it. Wrote a clip of Joe Kennedy in the ruling from the Supreme Court. Clip one. I'm going to thank God after every football game. I don't know, I'm going to have a new commitment with God because he's given me a second chance. And I'll never give up my rights and I'll never give up thanking God, but where I do it, the great thing is the court says it doesn't matter where I do it. And that's America for you. All right. Hey guys, I want to confirm, I might be slow to the news here, but just reading some of the coverage this morning, is it news that you're going back? Because I knew you intended to go back if you won the case, but I didn't know it was so quickly wrapped up in settled fact. 'cause you're living in Florida now, right? The weather's good there. You're definitely going back to Washington, the school district has signed off on it. This is a done deal. No, it's not. And that's the part that I'm just waiting for. I'm waiting for the school to either give us a call or however the lawyers negotiated. But I'm expected, you know, a phone call from somebody and we can work all those details out and hopefully I could be on that next fight to back to Bremerton and be on that field and see behind

The SCOTUS Decision Authorizing a Football Coach to Pray on the Field

"But I want to begin by talking about the new decision Kennedy versus Bremerton, in which a coach, Joe Kennedy, had been disciplined by the school, this is Bremerton for praying on the field. Now, he wasn't bleeding a Prairie. He wasn't calling the fans down. He wasn't even assembling the whole team. He was just doing it by himself. But the school decided we can't allow that because it's going to be seen as if we, the school endorse a particular type of religious expression. So the school in a sense was sort of reading the constitution on its own and saying, there's a no establishment clause in the constitution. This no establishment clause appears to create a wall between church and state, we being a public school are part of the state. And so we can endorse any particular religious view. It's not even clear that the school was quote anti religious, a school just thought that it couldn't violate the constitution in this way. And so this goes before the Supreme Court. Now let's remember that in the First Amendment, putting aside for a moment to free speech clause, there are two clauses that deal with religion and they appear to conflict with each other, but they really don't. The reason they don't is because, well, the reason they appear to conflict with each other is because we have a wrong reading of one of the two clauses. And so that puts it in tension with the other one. The first clause is that we are allowed free expression of religion. That can not be curtailed. It can not be blocked by any law or by Congress. The other is that Congress can not pass any law respecting an establishment of religion. That's the phrasing. Respecting an establishment of religion. And I notice that that's really quite different from separation of church and

Supreme Court sides with coach who sought to pray after game

"A Supreme Court ruling today could boost the acceptability of some religious practices in public school settings The high court has ruled 6 three in favor of a Washington state high school football coach who sought to prey on the field after games The court's conservative majority says the First Amendment protected Joseph Kennedy who was put on paid leave at Bremerton high school after defying repeated requests to stop kneeling and praying on the field The case forced the justices to wrestle with balancing the religious and free speech rights of teachers and coaches with the rights of students not to feel pressured into taking part in religious practices The court's three liberals say the ruling sets us further down a perilous path in forcing states to entangle themselves with religion Sagar Meghani Washington

"The north in Bellingham, 38. Bremerton 37. Right now in Seattle, with a few rain showers. 39 degrees Come on news time, 6 36. Well, the number of new covert 19 cases is slowly declining. But health experts say you need to be vigilant. Now, more than ever come most. Cara Kostin itch has more. We know these new variants are more contagious. And of course, we know that you, Kay very is already right here in Western Washington. Now this comes as we've seen a 16% decline and daily cases nationwide since January, 19th That's according to the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation, But public health experts say, Don't let that good news allow you to let your guard down as more contagious Corona virus variants emerge, experts say. Cold front brings chance of lowland snow early next week to Seattle

"Dark skies overhead. But if you look up, it's nice and story for most of us if you don't have some fog in the way by now, temperatures currently in the thirties for most of western Washington, so we've dropped back quickly because of the lack of cloud cover a nice, steady barometer. Look at that high humidity that was signed that there's a lot of moisture looking around out there, and at times it's gonna Start to grow into a little bit of fog for US satellite radar picture shows the clear skies that most of the region is enjoying tonight. And actually when it's story like this, especially on a winter's night, and especially when we've had days on end of rainfall, it's still sitting in the soil there. It coaxes it back out in the form of some fog. So that's gonna be an issue for some of us early tomorrow morning Temps right now, primarily thirties, although Bremerton pretty stubbornly hanging onto that 40 and Port Angeles at 41. Noticed a coma is the cold pocket there. It recorded the only 31 degrees and you can see that's exactly where we have some of that fog growing in Pierce County, so the two can combine forces there, join up to give you the freezing fog in the black eyes. You see fog here overnight. I just count on the fact that it's probably also slippery. So the big weather maker right now high pressure building in over the West Coast. Of course, it's caused all kinds of trouble across California with those gusty winds and the High fire danger in the bay Area and back into L. A. Given that it's January. It's a bit unusual, but that's how it's shaking out. We also have these warmer easterly winds for one more day tomorrow and then as we head into the afternoon to see the increasing clouds over Vancouver Island, Little bit of rain there on the west side of the island to ultimately that sensor for the rest of us as we head into the middle of the week. So with that overnight tonight, we drop into the thirties, especially concerned about Pierce County because of the fog in the freezing fog. It won't last long will burn through it pretty quickly. We've got a terrific Tuesday for you. It looks a lot like today. It will be a little bit breezy in the foothills and noticed that warmth The easterly winds tend to warm up even clone is across so you'll be closer to 50, whereas the rest of us will make it just into the mid forties. Breezy easterly winds coming through the strait in the morning as well to the tune of about 15 to 25 MPH. Will also come down slope from the Olympics and that tends to warm up on the way down. So forks he end up in a gorgeous 51 eastern Washington not benefiting from the East delays, in fact, so still that the false starts to become an issue again for some pockets, including the Yakima Valley at 43 up over the Cascades. It was fantastic of the ski slopes this afternoon. Why not do it again tomorrow? Loads of sunshine temps back in the thirties and all of our resorts by Wednesday that remember on the future cast Tuesday. We started Cloud NEP over Vancouver Island that rolls into western Washington Wednesday into Thursday breaks just a little spring collection. Compared to what we had earlier in the month. This is a really weak disturbance. But then we start really losing our warm Sunday and Monday. That's the best chance for some spotty lowland snow. It looks like we get cold just while we lose our moisture but at least an inch or two possible in some of the foothills by early next week.

"I'm continuing my investigation into the world. So the paranormal metaphysical working with the idea. That goes whether we see them or psychic. Senses them are made up of energy and we'll be monitoring or following along the oldest active paranormal investigation team and the Washington State Ghosts Society to see what they have to say about an investigation into a ghostly or angry spirit will the story starts out with the fairy. It was the fastest ferry. Impute sound making eight round trips routine. Bremerton and Seattle every day at a brisk eighteen knots. It had room for a hundred and ten autos on her car. The remaining decks had room for two thousand passengers there were shower facilities for shipyard workers returning home a lunch counter. Three Observation Rooms Sun deck and Ladies Lounge. It became a hot nightspot lunch counter catered parties. The observation decks became ballroom. Sadly Nineteen Forty Adelaide. Bebr committed suicide in the ladies Lounes. She lost her father to suicide followed by the death of her brother. She was twenty nine years old and still unmarried in the Ladies Lounge. She committed suicide by shooting herself. Well that was one thousand nine hundred forty one thousand nine hundred sixty seven. The Kala Kala retired from service. A move to the Washington State Ferries Repair Facility in Eagle Harbor. A year later she was sold to a seafood processing company and towed to Alaska to work as a crab Cannery Kala was beached in Kodiak in nineteen seventy and use their to process shrimp. Finally she was moored and would spent her final years listing until one thousand nine hundred seventy five waiting to be scrapped but in two thousand and two the oldest active paranormal investigation team and the Washington State Ghost society toured the Kala Kala with the owner. Some of the sensitives in the grew felt drawn to the Ladies Lounge and a female psyche detected the spirit of a woman who did not like men other. Investigators brought devices that measured electromagnetic energy which detected energy readings in the Ladies Lounge. The investigators set up motion detection sensors and energy detectors connected to a computer that recorded all of the readings at the same time they left the lounge and investigated other locations on the ferry where they got more energy readings that coincided with the presence of that sad female spirit spoke of the beginning of this podcast when the psychic detected the spirit the meters around her went off as technicians move forward. The energy went down. The psychic moved following the spirit. The energy readings rose the psychic suggested that the skirt moved away because technicians were men and she did not them nearby when they returned to the Ladies Lounge. They had a surprising result. The motion detectors work by emitting level. Noises bounced off the walls if someone stepped in front of the Mirror the signal bounce back too soon telling the computer. Something has stepped inside the room. The motion detectors spiked several times while the investigators were away. Oddly the computer indicated one of the sounds took too long to bounce back from the wall. The only way this could have happened was if the walls of the caller caller had moved further away from the sensor. Ross Allison one of the ghost hunters speculated that the sound emitted by the sensor may have travelled out to the wall and back but pass through something that was not solid some form of energy. Unfortunately the team was not able to return for more investigations today. The Kala Kala is just a memory but one wonders if perhaps the ghost of Adelaide bebr might not have stepped off the old ferry that graving dock on the Blair waterway just before she was scrapped.
