"Took dry swings on friday for the first time since august eighth when he suffered the injury. Mike trout of the angels. He's been ramping up baseball activities. Calling at one of the hardest things he's been through in his career and Yeah it's kept him out much longer than i think. He's been officially placed on the injured list as of sunday with vaccine side effects. So there's no minimums dave for players who are placed on the cove injured list. "I will explain what candle pins are for the people listening all over the world of no idea what we might be talking about before we get there. There aren't too many left. That's the sad part. I mean it's a. It's a sport that was very popular for decades and decades. And all told how many of these exists today. When i started writing this book i had a list about him of about one hundred. Active candle pin places in new england. sadly some of those closed because of the pandemic and i'd say maybe a few dozen of those may be fortyish are members of the international candle pin bowling association. Okay the fact. The fact that there's an international association is His heartening i'll tell you that there's candida candida. God bless canada and may you forever reign supreme in the canopy lanes so candle pin bowling. Let's explain what it it actually looks like a candle pin hence the name but what is it and as opposed to ten pin or duckpin. Well it is a bowling game so it's the same premise. You throw a ball at a bunch of pins. The difference is the size of the balls and the shape of the pins so candle pins are taller than Ten pins there about fifteen almost sixteen inches tall and skinny. They're they're taper it a little bit at each end but they're essentially cylindrical so they're tall and skinny. The ball are way smaller than ten pinballs. The balls about the size of a grapefruit. I would say they weigh about two and a half pounds and they fit in your hand. They don't have finger holes and the other thing the two other things about candle pin that make different from the kind of bullying. The most people are familiar with is that you have three turns per frame instead of two and when you knocked down a pin it's not cleared so you can use the peons that have fallen down the would to try to knock over the pinson. Still standing absolutely ended all got started in the city of worcester. You right absolutely candle. Pin bowling was invented in the city of worcester in the late eighteen. Hundreds the in the details of this origin stories vary a little bit but the gist of it is. There was a guy named justin white who owned a billiards hall and bowling place in in downtown worcester on pearl street and he wanted to find more challenging game for his customers the regular bowling so he experimented the story goes he found some broomsticks in his closet and he tried setting them up. And you don't know it could knock those down because they were too skinny but eventually he hit on a version of the game that used What are what we know. Today is candle pins. They were smaller than the candle pins. We know today but It was version of the game. We know today. And then a guy named john muncie. Jack muncie entered the picture a few years later and the two of them. Perfect the game publicized. Game promoted the game and Jack muncie went on to be one of the founders of the national cattleman duckpin congress which established the rules for the game in about nineteen o six right and it is a much more challenging game than traditional ten pins because i mean you can get a strike strike and a strike in. It's very difficult. Although someone's done it once. I think Gotten mostly strikes in a couple of spares to get an amazing score your but What's interesting is the original pens. Were were rather fragile. Key bidding them with the ball the element of plastic. or whatever. you wanna call it coating. These pens must have made a big difference. Yes so the original pins are made wood and of course they splintered over time because they kept getting hit and they kept flying around.

"Every volunteer D C police officer is being investigated as a homicide. His body was found yesterday inside his laurel home. Police were called to the home on Main Street for a report of a possible burglary. Inside, they found the body of 43 year old Brian Bregman. It's not clear how he died. An autopsy will be done. D. C. Police confirmed. Bregman had been a reserve officer there for 16 years. He was also a lawyer. Laura Guinan is with Laurel police. And how many connect with sports if you think of the traditional ways of consuming sports you root for a team you watch and attend their games. Espn's internal data that says that the percentage of twelve to seventeen year old stick and ball fans who call themselves. Avid fans has dropped from forty two percent ten years ago to thirty four percent today. What if i was to tell you that young people care more about what an athlete binge watches on net flicks. Then what he or she thinks about the next opponent or that viewers might not care about the athletes next opponent at all only that the athlete is a culturally significant. Figure if that sounds ridiculous to you then you might not understand this new generation of consumers.
