"breeders cup turf" Discussed on The Jason Beem Horse Racing Podcast

"You know the fact that they make a case that it wasn't a necessity for the breeders cup turf sprint is kind of turned into one of my favorite radio. I feel like every year at one of the first ones of the day but it just seems like it's it's provided some really entertaining. Racism obviously huge prices over the last few years. And i think that one's been a good one. I agree with you that that. That's been kind of a fun edition which i guess you don't know until you try and do it for a little while but i'm sure they're not you know. Obviously the legacy races that go back to nineteen eighty-four are always going to stay but i'm sure some of the ones they've added. I think there's one way or the other. And i think it's great. They added the juvenile turf rate. I don't know about the june or sprint but the juvenile turf Philly and the colt race it turns You know there was a That was a division of back in the mid eighties. Was it really very you know. It wasn't really a division in american racing. And that's one that's just like come along in the last few decades and So last couple of decades. And i think there was a need for to those races. James our topic this week speaking of talking breeders cup is obviously if they're five six weeks outta there any Breeders cup horses that you're pretty bullish on as far as think right now. They you know they're going to win or porsches you think. I don't like him in that race. Well i'll just tell you. I i'm a little bit I got a couple. That i'm wondering about Especially like with demean i. I don't think she's last year. Her race in the sprint was awesome. She was emigrates. Could have disagreed for year campaign They might even run around the met mile and that didn't work alison. I've just thought her her a couple of her stakes wins out. You know this year even that ballerina were a little bit You know. I mean uninspiring. And i think she might be a little vulnerable. I sort of wonder about lotrowska as well now. Obviously she could run in the classic which would change it. but it's even if she ran the distaff i wonder if she'd be a little bit vulnerable in that spot having won so many races in a row and as far as like just Like in a horse a. I'm intrigued a little bit by knicks. go He's gonna have his final prep in the lucas classic next weekend. And which is a little unorthodox path but if he's like real impressive in that race he's a horse that i thought last year in the dirt mile jason in the pegasus. He was really really good. He sort of went off and that cut had met mile and now with like one eleven. One oh seven percents feed right. He's in the last two races. He's better than he's ever been. And i just don't know if there's gonna be much speed in this year's classic field so Obviously his stablemates central quality. Sort of like you know appears have an edge that amount of quarter or but knicks go speed. I could just be the real deal and he. He may not be favored. He's a horse. I'm i'm really interested in right now. Yeah i was just talking about the fact that you know what happens in the lucas classic might have a little something to do with obviously what his price will be because if he were to get beat or kind of lay an egg or something like that at churchill's obviously going to change what people think going into the you know the biggest race of the year. Yeah absolutely. I mean. I just thought you know you know i mean obviously when he came back and you want that courthouse cornhuskers whatever race by ten lengths. You know it's just. It's hard to make much of that. But his racing. In the whitney i thought was his best race by far. I thought he'd just sorta toyed with them. I mean he was so much about and You know so. I just came away with the new appreciation for him. Obviously has to get that tim for a long distance. But you know as the loan speed you know. I just i wonder if i can get out there like gunrunner. Did it at del mar two thousand seventeen and just control it from Start to finish this. They need to change the name of that race to the corn husker. Whatever james the coroner's whatever. I remember thinking before that race that that was that was like a divergent race for nikko like he was either going to win it and kind of get back to where he was which he has or it was going to be another defeat and like he was just gonna kind of be done and obviously we know how it had kind of played out. So james always good to catch up. we'll talk with you next week. Enjoy the weekend pal. Sounds great jason. Thanks for having our all right. So the continues on and we head over to louisville kentucky and welcome in scott shapiro shop kappa to have you back buddy yeah. Welcome back Hope to vacation was great. Expect it it was it was. It was good did we. I feel like. I'm trying to think of what we missed here. While the whole. Nfl season started. That's a big part of your work with us here Around a twin spires headquarters has the season gone for you so far pretty good so far complaints. Nothing crazy couple of weeks still trying to figure things out a little bit not diving in too heavy but You know a lot of I mean the entertainment value..

"I mean obviously they're paying attention. He went off four to five. Got a one twenty seven times for usb figure so a good grade one number and it was quite a bit back to the runner up so not a whole lot to talk about. I would imagine they would probably want to try this horse in a race like the breeders cup turf because why not. That mean approved what he could do this. Vod's nod as good overseas as you said he he's been running well but not at this class level and not you know against the kind of horses. He would face over there if he was to go back for some of the bigger rates and so maybe he's pointed to the breeders cup. It's impossible to say until we see who shows up or fit. But i decided mentioned it many times. I i'm really grow in the love these turf turf routers especially at this mile and a half distance. 'cause we see and here with a seven year old who still around and probably running the best race of his life and i know. Some people have mixed feelings about these europeans coming from winning races in this country. And they like to see american barnes and the american riders and owners get the victories in these races. Frankly these races would be a little bit sad if they didn't have the european participation these days because the americans just in many cases aren't equipped go. These distances aren't equipped to run the kind of numbers that europeans do. When they come over. So i love it. I mean we'll talk about some of the races in new york a little bit later. But i like the european representation these races. It doesn't bother me that they come over and win and snatch up the person's because the more we get to see these horses in this country it gives us a better read come breeders cup time on how they're going to fare against the american horses that are pointing for those races and as for walton street yeah. I don't have a whole lot more to say about this race. He was a dominant winner as for the breeders. Cup prospects for this guy clearly godolphin and charlie. Appleby have many options for the breeders cup races that they could be participating in and he's proven his class overseas going back to that dubai sheema classic from late march He finished Just a few likes pine mishrif and the japanese do of kronos genesis and loves only you. I believe love's only you from japan. Planning to come for the breeders cup turf so that could be a pretty interesting race with a lot of foreign participation so wall street definitely be in that conversation but many horses from overseas would be. Yeah and it's interesting to note of runner-up actually was a horse..

"You just heard by coda jan. Tom durkin the call fantastic field. And what a renewal co-decision lengthening that stride and getting the victory. He would go on to be named horse of the year in nineteen ninety-three and champion grass horse trained by richard mandella. Who is now with me to go down the road to the breeders cup time to go down the road to the breeders guy. Well richard not only did coach. And give you that win in the breeders cup turf that year. He won the eddie read on his way to victory in the turf earlier in the season. And of course you're going to be looking for a fourth win in that race later today with the defending champion united. Appreciate your joining me. My friend can be here when you hear that. Call of quotas jan winning the breeders cup turf. What were some of the things that immediately come to mind. We ran four horses that day. Coach shannon the turf and phone chatter in the two year. Old filly breeders cup and then Memo in the smile steaks and region in the skywalker sake and they all four one. That's why profound back memories. What was it about coda jan. It just made him such a a consistent and such a good horse he just was at good. He had such a turn of foot once. We took a few races to get him to relax and Do it the way we want it But once he figured it out he'd sit back there and he'd make some kind of last quarter mile had to feel like going into that breeders cup turf that year. That okay he wins this yes. He's champion grass horse but horse of the year. I don't know if that was on your radar going into that race but it was the year that folks were remember our kong upset bertrando and everybody else in the breeders cup classic and that kind of opened the door. Was that in the back of your mind. All going into the breeders cup turf or had planned all year long. It just like you drew it up on the chalkboard right. Richard mandella going down the road to the breeders cup here on the horse. Racing radio network Richard so he wins. Cogen jan wins in ninety-three wins the eddie. Read you come back with another eddie. Read victory in two thousand one with ratatouille and now united last year and looking to pull it off again with united. What are you seeing from him. This year going into the race. He's he's back doing pretty sharp. I think you'll run a very good race. Today is point his last days. We did find a bruise under his shoe When we shot in a couple of weeks after his last race so. I don't know if it's good enough. Excuse for the only one we've got. Yeah well he comes out of the same race that he ran last year. Before the eddie. Read the charlie whittingham. He wanted last year. He was fourth this year as as a hall of fame trainer. Richard that is saddled so many unbelievable horses in your career. What are some of the the things that you look for in a horse to let you know that okay. They're sitting on a big effort. And i have them where i want them. Coming into a big race Probably use the word bobby. Frankel used to say. As are they happy. How do you know smile undertakes. Are there things that you see. Let you know that there that there were you autumn. Yeah when you you know anybody who's got a dog or a cat or a pet You know what they're feeling even though they can't speak to you and you know when we work around these every day we can just tell by body language and that and get a pretty good idea. What they're thinking. Well the eddie read is is a really solid race on that. Del mar program this afternoon. You have smooth like straight to is the nine to five morning line favorite from michael mccarthy and a pretty well balanced field after that but united. The defending champ is looking to become the fifth horse to win multiple runnings of the eddie. Read if he can if he can pull it off. How much time. Richard do you spend looking at the the competition in a race like this or are you solely focused on your horse. Not too much. I don't wanna scare myself. Yeah yeah what have you seen from smooth like straight when you watched him run out there. There's a very good horse and and You know he's in good form. But i'll keep my horse. I wouldn't trade with anybody do you start thinking I know you you plan out. Of course you plan cogen winning horse of the year all along Do do you do start planning at the beginning of the year and work out a game plan when you're trying to get a horse like united to back to the breeders cup again is that is that something you start the beginning of the year or do you just kind of go with the flow. As the as the year progresses would always got ideas in the back of our mind. But you can't get too far ahead of the game Are the horses won't follow. So kinda gotta take race by race but in the back of your mind like i say you have a plan if it goes good. We'll do this if it doesn't go. Good we'll back up and do this and you have to have a plan. Abc and just like jockey trainers have to do that too. Yeah yeah you know. This race is a mile and an eighth and we've seen him be successful at all different distances. He nearly won the breeders cup turf back in. What two thousand. Nineteen when he was beaten just ahead that year at a mile and a half. What's best distance richard. I think it's anywhere from a mile made so a mile and a half but it's kind of one. He's on his best day. I'd say yeah. Let's hope he's on his best day Later this afternoon in that eddie read you come back later in the card race number. Ten the gray to san clemente stakes with pizzazz. This is a one mile turf. Event possess has the inside draw. Tell me a little bit more about possess. She's a nice philly You know not change over after they said you know she. I don't have anywhere else to run her or else. I'd try something a little different. There's a pretty tough spot But she's actually doing very well. And and i think i think she'll make a good account of herself today. Well against the san clemente. It is Race number ten on the program. Post time for the san clemente is six thirty six pacific. That'll be nine thirty six on the east coast Richard this is the road to the breeders cup segment and we did talk about coercion. You have nine breeders. Cup wins to your credit when when you think back on the biggest days of course two thousand three stands out you have told me the story of two thousand three and how much that day meant to you but The at what are what are some of the moments and breeders cup history. That always stand out to richard mandella when you think about sorry. I just had a horse. My i needed to look at hang on. Yeah go for it. Hang on one second angel roe nick on the outside ankle ankle. Sorry there can you ask me that again. I'm sorry to be disrupted turn. No no richard. You're working and i won't keep you much longer. But this segment is road to the breeders cup and somebody. that's one nine. Breeders cup races.

"Difference in my career. Really when i started getting young horses for different people. I i still like the claim. Because it's it's a good. It's a big segment of the business. But i think the most people would say that you know a more known for developing know horses. Yeah it's a reputation that you've earned in rightfully so What's the key to working with young horses and developing them. The right way the kim the first thing is patience. I think for when go and win the hull basically like wang to go forward and went to back off a little. And it's like the may i i try to describe it as like a two steps forward one back three steps forward to back. You know like it's just it just tried to read the horse and his development and we may need to get bail And and if you a pension you can count a when they started to fight a little bit of physically mentally and then you trying to just designing and spurlock and then you go forward. And i think that's i've i've had a little bit of connection with that. I know jim that you probably had horses. That you thought were gonna turn out to be really nice. And they didn't progress the way that you thought they were going to tell me about the flip side of that. Have you ever had an. I'm sure you have a horse. That may you kinda doubted and thought okay. This youngster may be just doesn't quite have what it takes and all of a sudden they figure it out and they turn out to be a really nice horse. I don't know I pat listen. I've had i've had a horse. The closest thing to that for me wouldn't don't be a voice that i didn't think was okay but a horse that may be who just he can may outperformed meyer early expectations and that would be a hoist. Called park avenue ball He was a nice horse and he could run. But i never pictured him winning a million dollars or or that sort of thing and And more people might think well underplay that and say well. He's jersey bread and you know there's a lot out there for jersey breads any win a million dollars. The only ran into jersey but racist is all career is main race and three year old steak at the end of his three-year-old year other than that he ran opened his whole career. And anyone graded racist throughout and I would never. I'd i wouldn't. I would have thought he would be nice source but i never wear for. He would've attain what he did. Yeah i'll remember park avenue ball. He raced in the breeders cup turf mile at monmouth in two thousand seven. That was our first ever radio broadcast of the breeders cup. And we've been doing it every year cents on national radio so it was a special day for me but i'll never forget the weather that day. My goodness jarrell parable terrible day. Yeah yeah and then you know at that time. He ended up finally undergone like a tie back on operation his win that compromise them so much and he didn't. You didn't run well that that day. But we took a shot. Because charlie and marianne has were such monmouth people and they in they you know and the british cup come to town and so we really try to have them be that kind of horse. That was the only year he didn't. You know you keep him when a greater ran. Second and This got the and seven eighths raise At the gulfstream good sprint early in the year but his wind just got so bad at that after that.

"Those three year olds being special and and and be sitting on a real big rate but once again a very competitive additional mile. Run down late Pick three distaff turf. Classic james get with my best better the day in a sense. I'm gonna single monoploy girl on all my tickets. I think she's sitting on go. i think she's in Prepared perfectly and and i. She's relatively fresh fresh horses. You know fair well. The distaff is people know. Follow it and the In the breeders cup turf. I mean really a You know. I wanted to make a case for art glow and have him underneath. And you know i. But i'm gonna go with the more north in there and the Philly tarawa. I'm a little bit worried about that. Josh change you know with the loosened sukhanov but that turnover but i do think lord. North is a little a tree enemy. Frankie i find it fascinating that frankie dettori will now have written in more breeders cups in any ajayi out there breaking that tie with mike smith in kent disarm. Oh so Yeah i i look at him where he doesn't like soft ground he he more than proved this cloud. He does have to go a mile and a half or the first time more north. He's my top picking them turfs safe and your classic classic. I'm gonna lean on his law and ta. I think his law you know to me because the law might not be appealing from a win. Bet respective because he could get down. But i've seen too many horses. Whether it's skip away luik it tore hansel could did run a step churchill. I mean even easy goer was losing to is that true at churchill downs I've seen too many horses. Don't like that track. Don't run their a right but they come right back and run their a race. The next rate. I think kids the law has that is that kind of horse where he just doesn't like churchill downs. I mean it doesn't matter it's wetter fast. He's not the same horse there. It looks like barkley tack got him back. On course someone going to trust them. And i'm not look for him to run his race On saturday I'll echo what ed and others have said about concert todd as well. He looks like another horse. That's like a rebound candidate in a said and unlike this law talk the top love. Keen liners proven himself at keeneland. So i'm to four..

"We won't see them for another two days turnour internal when when we're came. Maybe three weeks ago that she was absolutely coming. There was that murmur that you're heard right away. That if she was coming siskind also has a. Has that buzz around. There can meco to that. you know. There's certain euros that that when you when you hear that they're coming you gauge the reaction of the cognizant. The of and also i constantly am watching the post market at odds checker and you. Can you know you can basically get a feel for who may be that much more. Highly regarded at because it's not easy to differentiate. These i mean. We'll talk to nick lock and and we'll have you know that thing that benefit dick powell will discuss. It will get marcus and steve. Anderson's opinions You guys have got international Oh my gosh Gonna forget her name. Kansas kansas hair. But also there's a there's some other nbc. I think utilizes not not so either but on the I think she comes to the dubai. Shows your kids. you're killing me either. I have no idea. I apologize for not being ranch out here. The french Owes fanny thank you okay. So it took a while to get there. Yeah it's it's. I feel like i haven't seen fanny in ages. I feel like. I haven't seen a lot of people in ages. I haven't i haven't seen you in in forever. I mean that's actually it's It's been one of those things were also used to seeing each other because we have these. You know weeks that we know we're going to be around each other. It's it's triple crown. It's it's breeders cup time so it it certainly is but Yeah i mean. I'm just looking forward to seeing also the the coolmore runners and i don't know i think overall they've got just an okay bunch that they're bringing over eight and i don't know that this is a banner year for for coolmore here. Breeders done well and they. They had a very difficult october. Let's be honest between between the wet weather and disaster at longchamp. The feed the feed problem. It's it hasn't gone. Well no it has not. But i mean magical she. She carries the banner. And it'll be great to see her in the breeders cup turf as she continues to add to her legacy. But you know it's it's It's one of these weeks that That we certainly get excited about. And i think I think the breeders cup mile is the most wide open race of the of the big the big ones. You know what. I'm just like thinking about something in you. Brought up dharma wells. And let's see mike those certain trainers from europe. And obviously you know aidan and the amount of forces in quality bring the. There's certain trainers that really have a handle on the kind of horses. It takes to ship internationally. Like you know dermott winning the melbourne cup and things like that that If they're bringing one here it's because they know that horse you know travels well first of all but will suit the kind of racing that they're going to face in a different jurisdiction. Do you think that sometimes we gotta lean a little bit more on those connections that have had you know that success internationally. I absolutely do. I mean especially for a gentleman like dermot weld. There's no question. And i mean. How many times have we seen horses. Come over here and these great ones that have just kind of tailed off a form and they perk up when when facing off against Our competition here especially on grass. Well the weld the issue with welder courses. That he's oh for over the breeders cup shockingly however his. His international reputation precedes itself. And there's the there's the whole there's the whole discussion point that has changed somewhat. Which is how often and part of this went with the arc with that long running. The arc winner has can't win turf until enable but in invariably there were breeders cup starters among the euro's that came here as an afterthought their major assignment had come in september and and an arc day and then came the champions day concept and if they came over here it it was something of well still an okay and before we put them away for the winter Might as well go over that that is somewhat changed. And there's there's certain types now And they for many years depending on where the venue was if we were going to be particularly on in california where they had horses that preferred firm turf and those were courses that were targeted for the cop and the cop was on their minds. These sets connections. And so there's there's some parsing that out when trying to figure out you know who who was here you know because it's big money and why not and who actually has got a design on coming You know there was that winner. There was that winter. That nick luck had that everybody on a plate that beat lady eli at santa anita the shirley park philly the.

"I. mean they were they were pretty rough on each other and he put them in there to teach them not to be bullied. And he was go out there and all these horses would take turns beating up on each other and and bullying each other and he got used to it. You know and so he he knew how to play rough. Let's put it that way. And when he in for you know people always talk about the second class. The first classic was pretty remarkable itself. Especially, they did something that they had never done before in that classic WHO NBC? Instead of having the usual stretch out and the camera they had to stretch out on the size and the camera followed the horses from the site. And you could really really see I mean he was a perfect camera angle to she this race because you could see exactly how close giant's causeway got to him. And how he just would not giant causeway was the kids now of Europe. Nobody could pass him is dependent which was in funds. At a giant causeway had won five straight group one racist and his biggest margin of victory. Three quarters of a length is from a mile. So amount of quarter I. think he once in a five sixteen but. You just couldn't get by 'EM. In fact one of the horses that tried twice who actually headed him and he came back to beat him with colony she who ended up winning. The. Breeders Cup the Breeders Cup turf that first year. But that was that was majoring. You hear nobody really knew that much.

"I I would assume that Montemar girls favorite in there and he'd be second choice. So whereas if he ran in the classic, you've got. Tom's they taught in the bathroom biggies in problem one maximum security, Antezana law, and you know she might be six and seven choice in that race. So I would guess he'd he'd run the distaff. Seems that seems that. That's the case and I do agree and the one topic has been with her how. You know how much? You know how much better she's been and not better but at least faster I mean from a from figure measurements. She's an authentic ten furlong horse that part of it. But there's no need considering she's coming back next year There's no need to be. You know. Tilting that windmill as a three year old filly against the. Elders elder males. Going a mile and a quarter. So plenty of opportunity for that in in twenty twenty, one meanwhile, Marty, you know we'll get to breeders cup in a second What'd you got back to Kentucky? Plenty to. Occupy the interest and a nice weekend in the offing year starting today really with the with the buffalo trace and got stormy Storming toward the Breeders Cup. Turf Sprint a chance for Gary Barbara to win at two years in a row with a with a mayor Talk a little bit about what's been going on a keeneland and reorienting your focus Back. Home. Yeah I I got back here. I'm advocating this morning and I've been here came here Wednesday and yesterday and and today Nicole Russo to. She and markets did a great job opening up this place last weekend for us and Yeah, think Nicole's is gonNA come back this weekend and and recap the qe to in the Fayette they're both terrific races on Saturday. As you mentioned today we have SMART Cassie. Looking forward to the Breeders Cup Turf Sprint with the crash. Five. Year old Mare. Got Stormy. She's six to five on the morning line I. Don't see how they can beat her. She runs a race. I mean she was. Some facial in that race at. Kentucky downs I guess maybe the five and a half. would. Maybe. Be a little too short for big. You know it's like. Tyler gap Leone said when he got offer lifetime said she could've made the front anytime those six and a half. So I think it's a very wide strategy because as Marquess you I don't know if he's talked about this with you on the show but. the the ground here at Keeneland with the grass thinning out, and Tennessee for wet weather this time of year and doesn't really dry out all that well, it's. There's going to be quite a bit of give to the ground when they run the breeders. Cup Here, November six seven. So knowing that she doesn't really like that kind of going. He doesn't think that she can match strides with the top milers maybe does she can. Do it with the sprinters. So I think it's a, it's A. Pretty. Shrewd transformation that she's undergoing CA. Marks. Guy. Some some thoughts let's let's handicap a little. Let's take a look at this and you know if it's if it either. If it's not got stormy or if it is. WHO WE USE Why I'm GonNa, use the last exact. At Kentucky downs winning envelope nailed it as Hermes and didn't play in a place. For. The loss of course..

"Victim of pace a little bit, and if they go fast enough, he can come run him down. So he is versatile, but that's not really I don't think his best thing and that's one of the reasons we didn't run the Eddie read in between. So is was really confident that the horse was doing. So well, I didn't WANNA cut them back to amount nays knowing we'd have to go back to my own three. We've done that before you know it and we decided to just train them up to the race. Film learn from one of the best ever Mike Mitchell and these are mike kind of horses. These long distance graph horses that was Mike Specialty. He loved it. You remember star over the Bay horses like that and I think they'll really trust his instincts and his training ability to know that the horses fit doesn't need to cut back. We don't need to run in between let's just go straight to the del Mar Handicap and that was the plan all along. So yeah. He's a he is versatile game and he's doing good right now that's that's the key thing. When you get a sharp horse, you just gotTa keep going keep going and you know I know we're probably going to be a long shot in the Breeders Cup turf but you know what that's why they run the race right? Well. Yea. All you gotTa do is look at the horse just beat look at United last year who lacking. Ran Bricks, and mortar I mean to a harrowing decision. So Yup. Absolutely and You know the partners love it A got. You know got to reiterate it. It's hard to it's hard to split. The the difference between the two training achievements of the weekend. Chad Brown with his fifth straight. Diana with four horses rushing fall sister Charlie the two previous years lady lie and deceit plus his sixth overall with Zagora going back to twenty eleven or filled the motto with his fourth straight with four horses and six six out of seven as mentioned big John be back to back and fourteen fifteen. Then hunt fashion business for you acclimate of course, and then read King I mean these are these are remarkable. Accomplishments in. High level. A high level. Graded, stakes on the grass and the grasping what it is the competitive nature of of turf racing. And pace dependency, and so forth I mean to to target these races with so many different horses for for fill and for Chad it's astounding. It is you set it off the like I lived in a good friends with obviously with both of them I know. I also know how hard these guys work and it's not just these guys. That's all these guys at the track that are that are at three o'clock in the morning and. On race days you know they're not leaving till. You know eight o'clock at night and and they live and breathe these animals and and they they they work extremely hard and I can't give them enough credit and Phil has been. He's been credible summer. You know we run PR radio star who claim to Churchill he's one waste at del Mar this summer and he he's going to be He's going to be tough this weekend in the Pat O'Brien. he's just done. He's got a great summer I. Think he's second in the standings behind Pete Miller right now and I. We joke, I, joke him I said come on man we can get you there. Let's go. We keep reluctant. That's what I keep saying. We're locked in a little red feathers leading in the standings tied with Costa harnessed with seven wins with manage.

"Way. Let's turn to the three. Mr Martin the. Mardi. Let's talk about the. The grade, three Louisville and the mile and a half standard What do we got? A slam one. That's one this what I basically wrote. A slam won this race last year in a field of seven five to two and went wire-to-wire. But it's you know typical of this corona virus year where so many good horses ended up Churchill Down? and. Keeneland it's a deeper field, and that's exemplified no better than the presence of Arklow. The grade one winner, and as we all know ran against the best, he could file your bricks and mortar and. Then earlier this year against do Alpha and the and the pegs of turf. His last two were not very good, but I think the regrouping probably getting well. He had a pretty hard campaign last year for good. You? Know eight to nine months extending end earlier. This year Brad backed off on him and he's been ready to run for a number of weeks. You know with the keeneland cancellation. He's GonNa. Be about even money. A lot of times with the two worst like that day at keeneland where. You know where he wasn't ready for the start. He's not the greatest gate horse and I noticed in the Breeders Cup turf to he was a little, anxious and anti before that race, so the key to him is really having settled at the as in the gay so I think he is and I think he will be He'll. He'll probably all your. In the card multi tomorrow. Anybody else any prices that. Who Else did you utilize it here? I mean it's a pretty accomplished field. Yeah! I've been a big fan of admission like the day that he ran and the I know our city and Brian tattered into the moon and You know he's mostly been disappointing although that run to back. In the MAC dermott against Zulu opera? He took him to Lebanon so. he was extremely disappointing and cold on the board couldn't believe how he was nine to two in the sunshine forever last month at Gulfstream, but Brian Savvy. He texted me, said look I think we kind of took him out element, senator, and just amount of sixteenth race the mountain half. Could hit him right between the eyes so I think he's a deserving second choice. Larry Nice haven't looked too much at the Sunday what's the. Sunday card look like. I didn't either I. Just nothing really stood out to me, And I can't really speak too much. Actually I don't have it here now. You know all the days running together. We're. Shaping in that Maxwell story real hard Wednesday morning, and then of course, the wells by thing happened and. Putting together the Derby Watch and all the other stuff. That's been going around on around here so Yeah, busy times here right now. Finally Mardi. also yesterday and I'm sure I'll bring it up with. Later with Hammer, but the Kentucky downs schedule and details were released yesterday. Six days instead of five I don't know if that was the post, corona virus, compromise or not, if they originally had six, as but as you know, we usually start late late August..

"Race worth watching beyond just the stakes and the Hollywood Turf Cup the Mile and a half APPs standard For the older males right. So this is the better rates that got This is one of the ones that was postponed. This was supposed to be today but only to the forecast four cast. They added it to the Sunday card obviously the marquee name. And here's united. Coming up is big second place finish in the Breeders Cup turf behind bricks bricks and mortar and certainly if he runs back to that race. He's beating I just think the the long distance turf horses generally speaking in North America. We're pretty soft bunch. This year you know the Channel Channel Maker Group and I think that's one reason why bricks and mortar ended up in the Breeders Cup turf as opposed to the to the mile. 'cause he was sort of a twitter and it turned out to be the right move But United is certainly a progressive horse. Who wants all of the violent three survival and a half and he gets the violent? A half here. It's I just think if he runs back to his last race he's a pretty obvious Winner against the types of forces that he's in against here. It's just not that strong strong appealed. I don't think so the the rest of the Sunday card. The matriarch TRIARC grade one that has been serving really as a As a target for no shortage of of east coast connections One of the last big opportunities grade one level if not the last opportunity for the phillies and mayors on the turf. I mean this is the best race of the weekend. I think in terms of the quality and the quantity both Of the Turf Festival races you start with got stormy who's four years just in sensational With great one wins against Greg Win against the boys at Saratoga and a giant race last time in the Breeders Cup Mile behind another mayor. Who incidentally she was the winner of the matriarch a year ago and Chad Brown's won that's raised a couple of years running? He brings significant form. WHO's had the same prep Schedule is as he did last year. Same final race. Same amount of time off coming into this race so It certainly work last.

Discussing Leading up to Breeder's Cup 2019 (With Scott Hazleton, Nick Luck, Gina Bryce, Frank Mirahmadi)

"Tasers plus i'm working came about ten years ago now i think it was wins and jato is still running goodyear to come i think she won the this stuff yeah and so i missed her agonizing defeat but yeah great to be back we mortar place kind of standing here thinking why do i live why do i live in the UK suv amen code and i i try to live here as much as i possibly can and you've been you've been stateside a ton the last several months skull and comparing notes as to how many days spent away from home this year i was beaten by you you will have someone nearly two hundred i think about one hundred twenty six months for me my very long suffering wife is just that if you need to pass assistant i'm happy to come along make the coffee whatever i'd say it's a pretty good gig you got going on out here on a day like today looking over the mountains perfect temperature top class horses cantering i you all is well with the world now and ideally from from here on in the next seventy two hours through saturday tonight get them all around safe and make this make this the the idyllic session that it should be the from from art lips god's ears as we say i wanted also to to the dubai experience right the last the last several years the the international i scott i mean lucky enough to where it we've got a royal ascot gina as well jeanine scott on the same royal ascot show now skull comes over and does a great job for fatigue as well then dubai and dubai together on on that show so yeah trips have been right i mean you can't get rid of me and to be honest with you our our our first encounter we always have we have this connection our first encounter which bad pinch is not here for this story because we're all together was the two thousand seven breeders cup at monmouth park it was my first big remote for HR TV it was was your first go second chauffeur ESPN yeah and it was lafitte lafitte was during the winter cycle presentations i show and we somehow not surprisingly found each other and managed to hang out more than a few times it was of course that week it was often oblique experience that we well saturday and sunday uh about friday and saturday but we're not talking about the weather though you're you guys were well the rain was what i call crying baby rain you think naturally has to stop but it never does danger this week that was is that was as frustrating a scenario as you'll ever going to have around racetrack it was gorgeous every single day that i got i got to meet scott hazelton think either third how i was blessed and we've not looked back since twelve years later here we are that was i i was there broadcasting for for me that was actually my first that was the first season of the show when i was alone was two thousand seven and broadcasting from from the from john heinz office that compound here and the show was four o'clock at that time four to seven so i was there all day and i basically ended up answering phones and helping people tickets and and really i was always met the days i that's one of my fondest memories let's get some let's get some thoughts and nick i always rely on you for international purposes however you've been covering all the lead ups so you know your opinions can go far beyond the the euro's but from an introductory stand point some of the horses this year that that are are kind of new and of course we had not a bayton switch but magical and up disappearing at the last minute and it was frustrating because she was ready to the sun aim she'd have been the marquee name as she'd been here given i welsh around last year and the season she's hiding she went on champions are champions weekend but she's not so on we go there isn't not substan- aim if you'd like to to hang the european challenge on but it scott some debt and there are plenty of hoses who legitimate i think probably the most interesting pair of horses is old persian and anthony van dyck see whether they can whether they can let down to bricks and mortar on the on the turf in the mile and a half race and whether they can expose any shortcomings in in bricks and mortar stamina i don't if you saw the clip on on twitter of me accosting chad yesterday it was a good natured exchange i said to my overcomplicating it he said you always complicate everything i think the the influence i was supposed to draw was that breaks it was just a good horse and i i think he'd be impervious to distance but i i think there's a dealer confidence in the ballydoyle camper van dyken can step up i think you'll have to step up a bit even though he's won a dobby and finish that in an irish champion stakes i think he needs another little step foot but they seem to think he's had the perfect preparation and he's by no means an afterthought they've had this race lined up for him since the summer and that always when we get to this juncture very often we've talked about horses that at the last set again they said oh let's go and and those horses invariably don't run well exactly so it's it's great that he's he ain't going great record in the race he's probably comparable to one one or two of his winners atn equivalent stage of their career he's he's legitimate and i can't seem finishing out of the out of the front path really i said to michelle when i was chatting to a yesterday on on the TV gee breakfast show and i'll say it again if old persian doesn't get any love from the batter's he's probably worth passing because on his full from your last year and his form for made on earlier this year a mile and a half on firm turf he's a he's a very good host but he does need to take a leap forward from the canadian run which was just okay even though he won the triple digit bar though did he not a one can rier you can run fast but just there wasn't much depth to the race fair enough for the work that i want to bring up to is a lou neck the ville de mar hicks runner because if desert encounter doesn't make that spectacular run at woodbine doesn't doesn't he show up here with a little bit of a little i'm chad i'm chairman of the desert encounter fan club only only a really ardent admirer of his exploits think he would have any kind of a show in anna breeders cup too so i think he's a show plan alaniz maybe he's honest horse who has proven that he's effective in north america but i think that's about us boulder cases i can make fair enough at an eugene you sort of perked up at the mention of his name all right yeah i actually agree with nick on the on the breeders cup turf but i just saw time christmas go past this morning on friday i think that's pretty amend as a bit of a lottery that race and they're coming down the hill and you want to get a good break and be drawn well and and get on with proceedings but the europeans quite well drawn in that race seems to be quite a few in with chances is one that's really so stamped his authority on the five furlongs sprint division at home it's a nice little horse his knee and actually when you see him go past he's not going to take the i really but i think he could be quite interesting and he's in a good spot there archie watson does really well with his juvenile he's bringing over a runner and band practice i think it's been joined in two so you'd expect him to had to be sharp and out and and another one with a with a chance but i think the juvenile houses some sometimes the race is that europeans can can occasionally pinch on the turf and there's a few interesting ones this year lucky though that with it being it's a different this year because this is only the second year of the juvenile turf sprint they had but they didn't it wasn't consecrated until she was able to race on the on the go a bit but having it around the band i think that the wesley horses have the advantage of their speed they out of the gate they get that position on the turn and then while you know it's it's game over it's not what you know the european i used to i think camario win if she breaks she's i know that's the that's the if i honestly think she's she couldn't it took a role of keeneland didn't that it took a rule of the stretch kaitlyn and then they're not gonna come back here i don't think we saw last year pledges hose just came out and blasted a multiple that was a different type of course it was it was i guess but i i don't know i think she wins if she breaks success good chances we'll drive drive yeah it's interesting they've taken a ali to wolverhampton to try and chain around the bend and get used to that because you know they you say they all going to encounter different different conditions today sir friday and they've only been running on the straight it's tough five gallons they've had to practice changing awesome getting out quickly and coming around a bend if you were there's there's one thing that unites ceos like a ali in the juvenile turf sprint and a host like anthony van dyke in turf is that this fixture has been on the top of their agenda since the summer so you're talking about hostess who are being specifically targeted at the breeders cup there's to die yet would be another one in the long race for fillies on the turf the to your own race on the tough and raja verion before she even one and finish second on an island in the moya he was saying i want to go to california with an east had some success with osa finishing placed in breeders cup races before they they have three hoses who have been typically targeted at this fixture right from the word go this year

Review: A Magical British Champions Day

"They cave obviously you were on Judy for sky sports alongside Freddie Tilleke and Alexander what was your impression of the latest renewal we've been having this essence twenty eleven it was the first time that they're the change to the jumps course they've basically said that saved the meeting that they would have had to cancel otherwise what was your impression of the day the position it's in the calendar it's always vulnerable to rain testing conditions it was great that they had the contingent and see their kings could have got a bit awkward otherwise the racing would have been at risk I think on the round course in terms of even being allowed to go ahead such was the level the moisture knocking around so we got it on I thought it was great racing it lacked a little bit of star power I think it's fair to say Bush on the day the race themselves for fantastic spectacles we got some great performances and we've planted look forward to what we saw with you to next season even I think and yeah look at sprint champion stay doesn't always necessarily deliver on what it's supposed to give its British champions day where one assumes the champ beans Ron and we have seen one champion perhaps on Saturday but it still delivered like reading high-cost Racing Really enjoyable ray say experience discredit atmosphere there and yeah personally I really enjoyed Chris deliver for you think Kevin Neal and the necessarily making champions with these races are all the title is there a there are so many big flat races are there in this country and that comes out so you just have to hope the good horses turn up and on this occasion I you know in most cases they didn't really I think in particular when you get really testing conditions for arc weekend fancy bringing those horses again two weeks later you know that was basically what they said that the wasn't it onto that factor I think one thing that might help going forward as if they commit to using ener- track just for all the run course races from can you just say well that's GonNa be our course champions day in the future for all that has been the hurdles back as far as far as I can make it worked fine on Saturday okay which is the first time it's ever been used for flat racing and it provided you know he was still soggy surface but it's it's better ground than you would go on the run course for sure and any encouragement you can give trainers and owners are not going to be turning up to race on the swamp is is pretty good news I mean I think the fact is you know this is the ground that we know expect for that day for all there were a couple of early champions days Iran serve goodish ground we'll agree UC ideally GonNa get lots of rain and it will turn soft and heavy in places this time of year and so even did freak weather one year where it was good ground again the reality is probably haven't been campaigned to turn up on that day because everyone's expecting softish grown which is a very good point at the atmosphere watching the sky seemed to be electric as well Peter so you're now a royal ascot veteran and ask veteran at that matter what did you make Champions Day in terms of my experience as a huge racing fan it was absolutely fantastic everything came together in terms of of the experience of being there and watching some top quality racing now when you think about the very name champions day and to the to everybody else's point I hear where you're coming from it's it's pretty tricky when you have a race that's two weeks after the most prestigious race in in Europe and the Ark and then from my selfish America part of the still think about the Breeders Cup all the time and with that coming in in two weeks as a potential target it's a it's tricky to to crown a champion between two champion two other days that are essentially designed to do the same thing but I think if you just take it for what is it provides a fantastic alternative and great end ABC's and target for a lot of domestic Brunner's from here and ends up being a racing fan I I I think it really deserves its prominent place towards the end of the calendar I I had a fantastic day out there and look forward to to try to many times more I was there in fifteen as well when I was living in London by a the experience of it it's obviously a very different animal than the royal me eating but something that I enjoy going to immensely and will target as a racing fan for many years to come a thoroughly enjoyed it I have to say and we'll done to the teams Sky Kevin obviously firm parts of that Long said Alex and Freddie I thought they did a brilliant job MC fits doing interviews I would have preferred it though admitted a brilliant interview with Aidan O'Brien Turku Gardens won the the longest cup which will talk about a few minutes time but I would have preferred it if mic was the one and not Richie to get Sean Lee whoa conduct because then I could have that clip to pay play in the final form of podcast we'll because it doesn't belong to US I can't play it damnit Mick Fitzgerald got that gold over what it means I don't mind that's fine yeah it's only the tenth highest grossing films of All Time Anyway the KIP CO champion stakes will be and with the feature race and magical who was beaten ten lengths into fifth in the arc only thirteen days prior to this race got back to winning ways she is real superstar of mayor but she's always enables shadow whenever she faces her even though Abel was beaten in the Ark this is the first time that Aidan O'Brien has ever won the champion stakes which in itself seems extraordinary but Chris it seems to me and we were talking about it on choose stay with Rushie and on Thursday with Steve Jones and rory champion the champion stakes for all that it is a prestigious prize maybe for ballydoyle it's a little bit an afterthought in in that position between the ARC and the Breeders Cup Classic Slash Breeders Cup Turf But this horse has proved to be good enough to go and get the job done for them and a worthy winner prestigious yeah I mean it has to be afterthought doesn't I mean you look at the best thing for the in stakes at about the time of the art I think you'd like a day before the art the top four in the batting stage we're all going to run in the are you know Japan is in there as well and others a new enable would have been one obviously so that's just the way it is when you talk class middle distance horses and they're probably GonNa go to long shot I aren't they and then case who's fit to go again and well it would be able because it seems that she's old boots what was this our is our ninth run of the year yes it was and it off in the middle of eight days after the grand national was her first run of the year and you know that nearly gotta be her best maybe upon short when she was chasing home able in New York but I mean she's holding her farm and it must be every she'll go again breeders cup I think she's fantastic I you know being jumps racing in principle I su- admire any horse the can be that jewel and can contain their enthusiasm for racing after all sorts of different experiences you know one talk class race after another one country net another one you d ground the last couple of starts and it doesn't seem to take anything off her she always runs a race Peter with a view to the previous cup she is obviously self boots she won the phillies and mirrors at the ascot meeting last year beating coronet she's now won the champion stakes proving

"But now the base your, you know, self is run afterwards, but courses coming out of this race can go there. They can go to the pet day mile which is getting to be a bigger race. Much better. I would think would wind up at the fat day mile. I got an up before it's too soon. Clearly, let's let's talk about it. Well, I I any thoughts about about hot Brown. You wanna slip in a very quick. Hot Brown mentioned. He's he's a very nice horse meal. But again, he's he's got he's got a prove himself on that on on on dirt. You know is his first dog the exit running the slop, I don't know if we dirt. I dunno if slop I don't know who's just the fact that was first race. You know, a lot of times you just throw out the first base certainly found the home at at surf park in these race here. I thought was was very impressive in in really easily beat a lot. But I you know, he he beat the same Moise beat in the Battaglia. But he look he looked good in both of those races. You know, but he's that you can easily put back Mike Megan easy put him back on the turf, he ran huge in the Breeders Cup Turf. You know, even big races in the with inches obation in the building stakes. So I mean, he is a top class turf force. So if there are any races forum on the turf, then might go back, but the really Aren. So I just don't know if they're going to try and make dirt alerts on him or not. But I mean, let's races. We're gonna I mean, you can go anywhere. You want with them? You can try to there. So, you know, forget about the first race dirt synthetics get about that's gone. We'll go back to the turf somewhere, you know, wait for Keeneland running like the translate someone else kinda racist. Did not a lot tooth from. No, we'll watch for. We'll watch for that maker with a good weekend. Because do share another one of that? Yeah. I don't know if he's going to get that setup anytime soon again. But that's all right. Meanwhile, Steve let's get to the rebels and rebel rebel really the horsemen. And Oaklawn for them to for them to do this because they're they're going into their pocket. Now, there was another series of of person creases announced that Oaklawn. So the the horsemen are are, you know, they're not they're not gonna lose out long-term. It's really gracious in the industry is and and the the west coast or it's been that were marooned. I mean, they really oh, Oaklawn a debt here with this with his act. Bob Baffert show does because if the rebel wasn't around. That would be in big trouble. I mean, unless this this was the final weekend you could run those still wars because once you run them next weekend. Then you're only turn it is to go three weeks, and then three weeks into therby, and nobody wants to do that anymore. So this is the only way easy only and Baffert gone this route before by going rebel and Arkansas derby, and that's really the only way you could do it. If you if you if you want to, you know, break up the races and give the horses time in between in between starts. So thank goodness. They had these races. And you gotta remember to at Baffert. Keno. He gets lucky the ways it's not the run the tourists against each other. I'm sure it wasn't crazy about doing that in the same Philippi. You got to undefeated horses. You know, you don't wanna get one of them be. You wanna kill you'd like to keep me both undefeated? Now, he has an opportunity to keep to keep both of them undefeated. And as far as the the rebels. I don't I don't see the Arkansas derby being better race than this. If you if you combine the two divisions. You're not getting very favorites running here, and you got all these often coming stars and all the best the best of the local horses. So I I mean to me this is this is the pinnacle..

"One on the morning line. And he will settle, sir. Winston who is twelve to one on the morning line in that race in New York later today and Mark Cassie nice. Not to spend a little time with us here. This morning, Mark. It's dirty season. So great to catch up, my friend. Good morning guys. Yeah. Good morning. Happy to have you on board. You know that call from John of war of will. He ended it with strides out impressively. Let's start with let's start with that horse and go back to that day. Your thoughts on that performance. I I wanted to say I love John. He's the only guy he'll he can call a in tell you what he had for dinner in the race. Craxi up. But anyways, you know, I I was I was extremely impressed with with him. We call him. Wow. Obviously. Because of his initials, but it wasn't even a lot of people. Probably didn't see what was one of the most impressive. Things was Tyler got him kinda running at the poll or three sixteenths bowl. And then after the racy took off which is is what you're looking for especially when you're thinking about trying to get them out a quarter in may, so no he he's always kinda been really highly rated with us. And he he he gets an extra star after that performance. That was a pretty Representative feel too. There were some nice horses in that race. It wasn't just you know, an average great three. I mean, it was it was a pretty good race. I thought and. He really make tonight. I agree to it was solid. You know, I a lot which said, and I think a lot was overlooked. I went into the race with about as much confidence as as a trainer can have knowing that so many things can happen. I thought his his win Churchill Downs when he broke his maiden was just so impressive. Said it was muddy. But they're sloppy. It wasn't. It was it was drying out. It was a fair racetrack. It wasn't like he was a horse win to leading just threw back flop. And and drew off. He wasn't really impressive. Did it easy Tyler geared him down in the last eighth of a mile? And unlike a lot of places where you run a race. There might be the only mile in the sixteenth that day or you know mile race. Well, all she had to do was look at the Kentucky jockey club, which was extremely solid field. I think the second and third breeders second and third Breeders Cup finishers came out of were in that race. And they ran ten when hundreds of the second faster than he did. And and they were in all out drive the entire way, and he was just galloping. So if you compared it that way, you know, I thought that mating very solid. The other thing that people don't realize with a little better trippy could've won the Breeders Cup Turf. He I think he ran something like sixty five feet farther than the winter ninety feet farther than the second horse. So he is he's he's pretty talented on on both surfaces. Yeah. And that was as a maiden, Mark. Let's keep that in mind didn't break his maiden until that race at Churchill Downs is I try on derp you look at his two year old campaign, and you look at his pedigree thing by warfront out of a Sadler's Wells mayor. It makes sense that you start this horse on the grass Iran four times on the turf, including that Breeders Cup juvenile turf as a two year old then bring him out to the dirt..

"Like, the Hooper is just a little bit of a stretch in terms of making him a horse. So let's let's identify the as again. As we're gonna be out of sex copper town. So the six has to seize breaking lucky four and the nine on on very good the McKnight big bulky field. And this group. Talked a little bit with with the Martin McGuinness just now and the the maker the maker horses. I thought down inside so Cleo and Zulu alpha certainly hunting horns presence in a part of the the weekend festivities on the European import front. What are we doing in here in the McKnight? Actually, use all three of those. You just laid out both makers, obviously you won this race last year with Oscar nominated and was the horse. That's improved quite a bit. Since he's gotten is Kerry, certainly turned him into one of these long, winded routers, and the mile and a half should be the the odds mile and a half cutback this going on here for soli. Oh, I think certainly makes him a a big player. I'm gonna use Zulu ALPHA's well who faced much much tougher in the Fort Lauderdale, and we talked about that race back in December and said that it was a great to in name only. Absolutely had agreed one caliber field. I think he was just in a little tough but getting back to a mile and a half. Like, he didn't a sycamore when he was a great trip and ride that day feels like he's going to be a good spot to out and his major player. I think you have to use hunting horn, you know, looking at hunting gorens to to most recent races in North America in Jayson sanely festival in the secretary before tiring and made a big middle move in the Breeders Cup Turf in a race in that fast paced. So I think that in a slightly slower pastry. Against much much weaker competition, and he really in both of those two more. So the Breeders Cup Turf. I think he becomes a major threat. I'm also a little too scared of Canessa, and I'm going to have to use him as well who rally into a modest pace and the stars and stripes now Dhaka for layoff. Of course, thirty one percent with her routers, a hundred eighty plus they layoffs good for to ally..

"There was that card before we went on the holiday break, the twenty second of December that we talked about with Marcus. We'll certainly have Marcus this week, but the Lecomte and silver bullet day and everything else. There's also I think four maiden specials that have got some some important horses that you know, there's going to be some disappointment on Saturday for the operations that are looking to get that diploma. And then take the next step. So if one of the really nice things about the fairgrounds season is how out in front of of their. You know of their race days. They are in the racing office. And so you you can you can spend all week diving into that monstrous field in in the Lecompte I'm interested in that race. I think plus caper fabled probably favor dare and deservedly so up his big effort to narrowly get beat in the grade to Kentucky jockey club in the slop to sink signalman. And that was he ran a really big race there that day and leper ru rides. But I'm looking at this war of will. Because when he ran his first four races on the grass last year. And I have such respect for Gary Barbara Marquette. I mean to me there's an owner and trainer rankle right up there for people that know what they're doing and as good as it gets in this game. And the fact that Barbour in Cassie thought enough of. Of war of will as a maiden run in the grade one summer, which he ran well, he ran second to the highly regarded fog of war, then they random in the grade three bourbon is a maiden and he finished fourth and only got three quarters of length. And then they random in the grade one Breeders Cup Turf as a maiden, and he didn't exactly embarrass himself there. He finished fin the only got beat three and a half. So then they put them on the dirt at Churchill got a sloppy track. And he won with the thority that day by five. So he's one for one on the dirt. He's a war front out of a Sadler's Wells mare. So there's plenty of stamina there. I've been to one Arca my life. It was nineteen Eighty-four and Sadler's Wells was in it. And I mean eases good as sources stamina, I mean, that's like looking seeing prince quo as the broodmare sire is somebody in my book as far as outstanding stamina's for a pedigree. So that war will is really. Intrigued me, and maybe you know, he'll just turn out that it won't pan out here in the Lecomte. And maybe they'll go back to the grass, or maybe he's gonna show that he's really, you know, his works at the fairgrounds on the dirt. I think have been very very good. He had a bullet drill on December thirtieth on January fifth. He worked in fifty nine and change the second best of seventy six and then on.

"Actum forts. Raises was Steve big. Raising and becoming interviews this with Steve. We're back our two on this Monday. And it's the it's the home in home visits with Jay ribbon. And not only did did J set up the eclipse finalist storylines going into this visit today, he also put you on to me hosts for Jimmy jerkins, centennial Muccio macho man, and and really raised the those those question marks J about about Coliseum going into the sham and we just got off with Jerry Halldor for good morning. Happy new year again, happy new year again to you. And congratulations on your eagles yesterday. Never in doubt. Right. Never in doubt. Like the pirates. There was no doubt about it. Absolutely. You could say are you going to stay in for Johnny because I got no Johnny here today. So. Standing for Johnny d. I'm sorry. You got you Johnny can't revel in the near eagles victory from from yesterday together. That's too bad. Sorry to the bell. Must have been to emotional drained after the game yesterday is there's no doubt. And ideally will be able to to rebel one more time at least maybe maybe three more ideal. But really revolution. Go to the game. Couldn't even better more fun place ago. I'd love to go, and it's funny because Chad checks down in New Orleans right away said you know, what you come down. And I. I would have even considered going Chicago. But being the four thirty game on Sunday makes it hard because I couldn't couldn't have gotten back from Chicago last night. I would've taken I wanna teen. I've wanted for years to get Tina to Chicago, and she's never been but same thing here New Orleans. The transportation issue is not the greatest back and forth. A man of your means should be able to hire a private. I don't know to not. So not so easy. Let somebody maybe the Benson's with maybe they would send for me. No. I don't think that's happening. I'm sure that's your top of their with would be owners of the same. Why fan of the eagles down? Voter. That'll work sell your big time did top fan. And by the way. Can you have to see game? Exactly, I'll watch of we'll we'll teen. And I have a we've we now have got a whole we got a whole bunch of rituals actually that that we that we've gone through for watching eagle game. So we we'll just keep going forward. You of course, we're had the had the stream tuned in on Saturday, eleven o'clock and Gabby debt, and Jason Blewett laid out the finalist. Jay, your Europe the story but flesh it out for us. Well, obviously, the real interesting thing, I think this year is the is the horse of the year debate. There's I think when the dome was was over it was pretty much acknowledged justify would be worse of the year. And I think as the year's gone on just if I never ran again and accelerate continued to rack up big wins. There's been a legitimate debate over what worse of the year entails. And so it'll be interesting to see which way the voters come down, my gut feeling that it's going to be about five percent. Thirty five percent justify over accelerate. There's a healthy amount of support for exceleron. I think if people took the time to really evaluate both both horses instead of just knee-jerk easily reacting one way or the other then that's a healthy thing to do. 'cause I think too many times a lot of these the wards, and I'll go through a couple of my pet peeves this year are done without as much digging as people. Need to do. And I think in the case of accelerating justifies a little bit easier 'cause they're right in front of you. But I think some of the other categories and by biggest pet peeve wouldn't came with breeder. I just don't know that people are really doing some of the homework that needs to that needs to be done. But so that'll be interesting. And then as a couple of other ones that are kind of for older female on grass is going to be a naval offer one starting this country beating the boys and incredible performance in the Breeders Cup Turf. And with her European resume behind her, including her second straight arc or sister..
