Making Voice Market Data More Accessible With Simon Landry of Voice Market Data

"Market data makes voice market data accessible currently. It's only alexa. Hopefully i'll get into other markets another way to conceive of of basically the vision what i would love for it to evolve into is. It's i want it to be the app annie voice. So anybody who's built for an app has probably encountered any other great. Just a wild source of data for how to build an app best practices were to do a to avoid and it's a fantastic resource that when i was building my first alexa skill i was looking for for an app. Annie for voice and it didn't exist. So i i thought. Hey why. why wouldn't i just build it. So that is what we do. The clients that we that we would use voice data arm on the developer side so more like developers researchers people who are looking for more of a macro look of the of the voice market some some An end users. I guess users might might find value in the sights of for example around halloween. I put out a four scary skills. And so i think there was a lot of traffic from from people who are looking for scary skills but a lot of the of the the i think more fun content is like what are the less use invocations what which skills offer. Isp's and things like that so they're pretty deep dives that are really targeted towards skill developers. So the problem that helps the voice market data helps solve is. It's a way to explore the voice. In this case lex that skill ecosystem amazon is really difficult to browse explorer. Discover and this makes it easy more specifically how how does voice market data helped solve that problem while it's it makes the data accessible so it helps people find out what works what doesn't and to essentially improve their voice design based on what other developers would have would have done so you can do what works. Avoid what doesn't work okay. Now that makes sense. I can definitely see the value in that to have a consistent source of data not just at the app in store level but the fine grain level that you were talking about definitely the big platforms rather tight. Lipped about the stats. And when they do release their figures they always seem extremely favorable. Had to put it the mildly. So you never quite sure what that. What the real figures are what the usage is that. We tend to rely at the moment on on. Third parties. Like bloggers podcasters brechin sell. It does a great job voice. Part of keeping track of the number of new skills being released on the on the amazon store. Least and the. I've i've seen recently voiced. This is considerably dropping each year. unfortunately but Yeah fanta finer grain look and to be able to take those those deep dives as you said. So what can we learn by taking a macro view or a holistic view of the marketplace. Do you have any specific examples. Taking more macro or holistic view of the alexa marketplace allows you to see patterns and trends. I'm a really easy way to to see the value even in taking that. This holistic view is invocations. So if you're building a skill and you want it to sort of stand out you need to make sure your from from my experience again. Maybe things have changed things change pretty quickly in the space but in my experience putting out a skill that has an invocation that's similar to already popular skills will meet your skill much harder To be discovered so taking that holistic view of the marketplace you to see which invocations already exist and which are already popular so that you can avoid those those invocations or you can also take that the high level of you and see that may be in vacations that are kind of part of of sentences like that are are similar to how people would speak might be popular so for example dad jokes. If you have alexi open dad joke joke then that might get you more traction than having sort of just a more dry invocation so being able to take a macro view lets you see these things that work and don't work on another. Even higher level voice market data actually takes a look at the skills markets in other countries. So you're able to see what works and doesn't work and let's say india so if you take a look at what works there. You might actually see that we. The the skill works well in india and it may not be exactly the like we might not want to build exactly the same thing in in. Let's say canada but the general concept is really great and people. There seemed to really like it. So there's there is value in this type of skill so let's let's getting inspired by this this new perspective from from different market.

"Alright Brechin Sela on the floor here at Voice Nineteen in Newark New Jersey busy. We have five thousand people from the voice industry all talking about technology that's near and dear to the hearts of the people who listen to this podcast and I ran across Emir Her C._E._o.. Audio bursts thanks a lot for taking a couple of minutes to talk to the voice podcasts Amir in my pleasure hi good to see again but yes not the first time you've been on the voice by podcast. This is going to be a little bit shorter than our last one. which as I told you is one of the are more popular podcasts okay so you've come to Newark New Jersey <hes> why why is this an important place for you to be the week I think the voice conference is an extremely important place for Algebra to participate in a thing generally for people are interested in the voice and audio world? We see a lot of the new development in new players and updates in the technology and in the ecosystem <hes> <hes> through the conferences the speakers and the expedition's that are over here. This is an important place to see where the voice industry is going to be in a year two years five years from now and it was very important for us to pay attention to so what have you seen so far. We're now and like through the morning of day to what have you seen that you know impressed you that you were surprised about the thought it was really notable. I think the biggest biggest thing that I saw is the diversity or the different companies that arrived over here both from large corporations active in voice <hes> Google Samsung of course on <hes> Amazon <hes> and also large startups and different players from different industries that came over here and I think it showed that the industry's maturing to a place where it's not just no turn on and off the lights in specific applications and smart speakers but there's more and more your relationship and business development and capabilities intertwined together <hes> it didn't surprise me but it was <hes> really <hes> imminent in the way that people are conversing in the hallways and into presentations of here and you said one of the things that you hope up to learn is where the industry is headed over the next couple years. Where do you think the industry is headed so I think <hes> a major word that keeps coming back as partnership over here? People understand that we can't solve everything with a single silo approach <hes> <hes> in a thing the industry is now going to a place where <hes> voice spot application voice by platform now connects with different partners allow an ad capabilities to it and business opportunities. These are using different partners in to build their solution. There's a lot of collaboration over here and I think that's the most <hes> significant things that we see in the industry in the way that it's happening. Even though we started with very strong players in the beginning being there is no dominant single guerrilla there will rule the world over here. It's much more about how does we how do we collaborate and work over here. <hes> which I think is a very healthy way for the industry to evolve that is a word. I've heard a number of times it's healthy. It's friendly. It's collegial and that is a little different than a lot of industries. I think that we've been involved in the past so you have a couple of announcements this week. Why don't you share those with the voiced by listeners so we're happy to announce that in our effort to share audio audio as much as possible within different platforms? We've launched audio auto as an android auto application though will go directly to consumers with has an android android application or integration within their car can download our APP and start using their in our technology to listen to personalize place and seemed playlists getting.

"From it being a love letter to Thailand. How the hell do you get MacAulay Culkin to show up do that? Well how the hell did you do that? I guess I didn't realize it was. It would be such a challenge, so MAC. And I have known each other over twenty years now. He's not just playing. You know, he's not like an interesting character. Yeah. He's actually a really incredibly competent actor and a really gifted performer. That's what he was born to do. But you know, becoming famous as a child the way that he did. And also getting rich and, you know, being able to keep his money and never get. How did you get him to do this just promise trip to Thailand? Not just asked him. I had I've been writing the thing for years. And every time I mentioned it to him, I told him, I've been writing this part for him. And he always expressed an interest in doing it. And then he just came and did it and. That's the that's the fun thing about him, is he's in a point in his life, where he can make those kinds of choices to completely refuse to audition or have no interest in doing anybody's parts, and then also do whatever he wants know he had a friend produce a. I think it was Aladdin like did a total independent goofy rock and roll version of Aladdin. He was like fuck it. I'll do this. Yeah. So it's youth. Brechin Maritz MacAuley is Brenda song, clear, grant, Randy Orton, was just a vacation with your hanging out with your buddies, and friends, or offered them all that they could stay on either side. Like everyone said having a great time when you're do. I mean for me making movies is what I love. It's something that I know really well and a process that I really enjoy. And then I thought both who would I most prefer to share this experience would it say, that's what it seemed like to me. But it's also who can I guarantee, is gonna give me the thing that I need with the least amount of conflict. Right. So when you're going out to Thailand to shoot for twenty four days and I know we're not going to get a lot of second or third takes on stuff. I know that the conditions and the obstacles and the circumstance are going to be such that I need to be able to pend on everybody that I'm bringing. Yeah. And that was how I cast that I wrote all these parts for each of these people knowing that they would both visually and from their performance. Give me exactly what I needed said, tell the story for an on. Well, that's the other thing about the cat is just exceptional. They didn't nail nails it. Good. But it makes me look smart. But it was too much weird for me to see you in Brechin together again. I just flashed all the way back. That's funny. I love working with him. He's one of my favorite. Collaborators so robot chicken out. Can we do you put you put up the thing on change? Then yes, the change. There we go. Because you guys like men now what the hell kiss them last time, I saw you guys sitting next to each other like that. That's fun watching you trip about that. It's weird, isn't it? I didn't I don't I don't feel the age. I mean I could objectively look back and go, yeah, I was such a kid when I was six, and I don't feel that way about you. When I see you. Now in real real world, Brian, I see you with him. Just go back to that says nerds at so fun, anyway and ready to a nice job. Great wants. WWE and I you know, familiar, but I'm not into it you know, but he just didn't everyone just did. I believed it. Oh, good. Yeah, I believe, and I also like I'm not going to give away anything but. You in your writing you left, some interesting question marks that were good that we're just the one that just just enough to let you drive your own conclusions about things. I'm really happy with the movie and very excited about why galley guys this teenagers you can receive. Yeah, I'm probably eighteen or nineteen there may be seventeen those genes. Yeah. I knew them before that, that's I don't think you're that's into our twenties. That's two thousand nine so funny.

"No shade during over to our boy Brechin Meyer. True. I can't think about this movie. I laughed my dream. Is you guys get to interview Bill Murray today, and all you or one day and all you ask them about as Garfield? I'm here to promote like Ghostbusters the next generation where I play a flight attendant to the teenage Ghostbusters like we'll get. Did you have any other lasagna? It's speech showing him. The Garfield porn memes. Just like I did to Brechin Meyer. He's even more confused. The. The funniest thing about these movies still is that Bill Murray signed on because Joel Cohen was writing thinking it was one of the Coen brothers and putting just a different joke. He didn't know who's getting into. She showed the Brechin Meyer, though. Arthur he knows Brechin Meyer knows the funniest one of the funniest things to me is is from Rick and Morty gag but Bill Murray played his character Ghostbusters in we'll Renzo music played. Garfield on the cartoon show, and then Lorenzo music also played Garfield on the Ghostbusters cartoon show nut Garbiel. He played Bill Murray's character on the Ghostbusters crimes. Crazy full. I gave Garfield Till's kitties three out of a hundred terrible audience number three, very racist movie. Can you guess love? Guru. That's correct. The love guru. It'd be Michael Myers might have could have also sucked in a Star Wars Phantom Menace here. It's true. Great comedy. I will say the audience number two. I don't like at all..

And how do you feel now about it? I think my my. My reaction is the same. Then as it is. Now was okay. Do I thought it was funny. I was I didn't think it was real. And I thought well, you know, we all have to make a living, right? Look actually came out and said that it was not real really oh shock. The fact that people can realize that then it was it was what it was. It was fun. It was like, you know, it's makes for good talk. Right. Right. Right. I mean, I feel like if I was on the show somebody and then years later that came out I would have the same reaction. I would be like what the hell are doing whatever. I don't judge. Yeah. Honestly like it gets blown out of proportion about our relationship and no one talks to him. It's like he's not really in LA's not really ended up in these on in the business rights, so many still. By the way. That's the other things you work with somebody. And I I've worked with a lot of people in my in my career, and I don't keep in touch with them. Right. And it's okay that I don't like to be you imagine every actor to be friends with every person they ever worked with like many friends. Fake already. Oh my God. Let's grab lunch, but we never actually with. Yeah. Mean? Yeah. Type of thing had me. Yeah. Well, besides the passage what else can we look forward? Developing some projects I have a possible drama that is that FOX right now that I won't star in that'll be producing. French format that has two seasons on Netflix called witnesses. And I'm adapting the American version of that. So fingers crossed gets made into a drama with the light taking on that producer role fun amid it's to put it in easy term. But really enjoy myself a challenge working with people in and being on that side of camera. Trying to get a reboot of Franklin bash. Really want to work with Brechin Meyer. Again, we've been trying to develop things in the past. We wrote a pilot script that didn't get made. But we sold it to ABC a few years ago, which then opened up my development deal of FOX right now. But yeah, I'm just developing things, and Franklin bash reboot is probably my only other acting thing that I'd wanted to because I'm tired of the passage so you're focusing a little bit behind the scenes, and because I feel like the passage is is is going to go, right? Fingers crossed never know. Because you never know. I thought that the same thing about pitch the same thing about that character. I thought it was gonna retire during then for it not to go. The trailer of the passage was blowing up on YouTube though. It's it's. It's time for it. So. And if it doesn't. Thank you. Social media blasts. Well, I lock it in good confidence. Now in that around here was an extended aquaman trailer, five minute aquaman tro from James one, which showed a heck of a lot of stuff, especially automated his final form suit the suit that everyone knows the orange and green thing, which is. Disappointing kind of the way for the movie to see that. But I actually thought this was a pretty good trailer. You guys agree disagree on that? I, I liked it. "Not quite what i am saying is what i'm saying is that in an ideal world we should always avoid a low blood sugar because a low blood sugar might have immediate consequences that you know are of relevance to this patient just as much as the ten year consequences of complications but i think balancing that risk is a lot easier today well there are lots of ways for patients to measure their blood sugar and can't they sort of tell when their blood sugars getting low and have a candy bar or some orange juice they can they can and as i said today a lot of medication makes it possible to keep your blood sugars in arrange which is acceptable for glycemic control without putting you at increased risk for complications and then there's this question of awareness of low blood sugars and their ability to handle a low blood sugar which might change the equation slightly certainly an airline pilots you know the risk of hypoglycemia is paramount so nobody can get a commercial flying licence if they're on insulin today there is in brechin apodaca diabetes in this country there is some heterogeneity in the a person's resistance and ability to make insulin in the face of dietary indiscretion so if you look at people who need bariatric surgery okay who are extremely overweight only one third of those people actually have diabetes so even at that extreme of weight you still have people who do not have diabetes and there are people who are lean and yet developed diabetes in their fifties despite having done all the right things.

"A success story and i'm so happy 'cause we talk so much about professional teams in vegas finally over that stigma of all my god you can't have pro sports in vegas with all the gambling and what a success story this is and to be able to overcome what they have because you remember at the started the season was one the unspeakable tragedies happen vegas yes and this team really took it on its self to be a part of the healing in that community and to take that event try and be a part of positively affecting the community and then to still have to go out there and play hockey and played as well as they have they've overcome a lot hurdles to your point so it's been an impressive season a lot of different ways and people are showing up you know you wondered with forty one home games as opposed to when the raiders get there and the nfl they're the home games are more like offense because there's only eight of them i believe they were third last week check brechin can confirm that he had a great attendance yeah you know at home so i mean tipped in the cap all the way around for what's been going out with him by the way what we always say about the the vegas oddsmakers they know well they didn't know here the golden knights opened up the season with the worst odds five hundred to one to win the stanley cup oops those odds have now proved the seven and one and the the golden knights had a slogan playoffs in three cups in six and when the head coach your glenn was asked whether or not that was realistic definitely scared me when you heard it i first not anymore to make the playoffs is real tough for an expansion team to make the playoffs it's incredible side glance so take that vegas oddsmakers didn't even get any get it right on our own team store and they were therefore in i said third their fourth in attendance but top five you're kidding me no it's it's fantastic so remarkable story when the only other teams to do it have a guy named mr hockey and the greatest player of all time it's pretty good list yeah so congratulations to the golden knights as they continue to roll and we continue with.
