He did a nice job keeping this team for the most part intact and you can't keep everyone can be But for the most part It's lightning team is poised to make another run at the cup, aren't they? I think so. I mean the defending Stanley Cup champs for a reason. I think you know, big part of what John Cooper talked about in camp was that it was a process to get there. It's not a race. It's a grind all the way to the end, and you know last season they had some adversity early on, they battled through and they wanted to play into their structure in their system and be a better defensive team. And that meant sacrificing on offense and a team by in and they're bringing back that exact team this season pretty much, obviously a couple holes, especially on the D. Cor with some of their veteran defenseman. In Big Ocean and Shattenkirk, who had a tremendous impact on the playoffs and Braydon Coburn obviously one of the most well respected veterans in that room, so they're gone, But you know, as far as the leadership of this group, I think you're bringing back an extremely strong Leadership group, you know, with Steven Stamkos out for most of the playoffs, Of course, he was a tremendous presence in the locker room. But players like Pat Maroon and Victor Hedman defenseman like Turn AC and circuits have, you know they stepped up and they had new vocal leaders in the room. I think they learned a lot and you know the taste of the cup and I think wanting to bring it back with an arena full of Fans on opening night as they get ready to unveil their banner Tonight is is even more motivating. So this is a great team, you know, a great core and like you mentioned earlier drilling Bree's blood just You know, acrobatic this summer, you know, dodging and manipulating numbers to get this core group back and continue to add complementary players as they look to go.

"For the call to support me. I appreciate you keeping twisted. I speak juggle, Oh, man, but other really cool news in the line of having Jericho on the line of WD just announced they have made a Tampa Bay Lightning world championship belt that triple H will be hand delivering to the Lightning shot. Ah, that's really cool. They do that. I think with most major sports, but when you see it, it's got like the name plates on the side. That's a Tampa Bay lightning. That's It's Ah, It's pretty damn cool. Chris Cook just reminded me that he's got the l O D with the bolts through the O and Tampa win cup tattooed on his arm. Oh, yeah, he's old school. He got that on Mike show in the studio. I remember and Ah and I met him. That is a cool looking belt. That's a really cool ability to get that. Hey, was Braydon Coburn burning heaters in the locker room. I've seen multiple videos that at least allege that It is interesting how? I don't know. You know to me you don't Some Maybe Some people do casually smoke cigarettes like when they drink. But it was interesting How you see the guys with the cigars and you don't think twice. You're like, Oh, yeah, that's that's what you do in your party and you celebrate a win, right? And there's Coburg just casually burning the heater and that somehow felt weird. You're like, Oh, my God, A cigarette. What is wrong with you? Meanwhile, cigars like you're smoking 26 For some reason, that's more acceptable, but it's also just boss. I mean, just seeing so much emotion. These guys finally be able to just let it all out in that locker room for sure. I've got some really cool audio, a cz well of Ah, Pat maroon, hyping up. "Them so far, But I also think you'd be hard at this point. You know, unless you have a Steven Stamkos going back, you know into that forward group of 12 forwards. Who are you going to take ice time away from right now, If you're going to go, 12 and six because right now, you know you're seeing different players in his absence. Step up the braiding points, Andre plots Yanni Gorge right now. I mean, who are you going to take away? That ice time, too. If you go 12 and six right now, So I think John Cooper obviously sq pretty pleased with the way his forward group is producing, obviously in at 8 to 2 victory. Isa lot, but just the way the game you know the way they played the game, asshole in different players stepping up every night, so I don't think you want to take away any ice time. And those younger players like a Brayden point. They can handle those extra minutes. So I like what they're doing with the 11 7. It's obviously working. On its making some of their players like Kevin Shattenkirk, and, you know, I know Victor had been loves to be on the ice the entire game. But you, Khun strategically put those guys in right now, It seems like they've been able to the way Shattenkirk talked about in certain key moments, whether it's the you know. The end of a power play opportunity against the Islanders or tired penalty killers. And you get Victor Hedman out there. Tio Key faceoff win, and he You know, shoots a perfect shot in there with some tired Islanders on the ice, and obviously you got a great screen as well. But I do think the 11 7 is working great from that from that standpoint, and if Steven Stamkos was available. Maybe he would be back into the lineup and things to be different, but so far so good. Yeah, we're watching game One highlights now with the pre gable on nbcsn. And there was Alex Killorn that had a nice screen on a victor had been shot on that power play. And then earlier when I talked about the McDonough go was actually Andre Palat, who I did a good job of screening Grace and allowing that shot to go in with 11 and seven. I think a lot of it, too, could be the coaching staff, just trusting a couple veteran defenseman and Luke Shin and Braydon Coburn guys that I think Shin is like around 750 games in the NHL. Coburn is up over 900 games and NHL just trusting those two guys a little bit more and a pivotal situation then A pair of rookies and forwards Carter Hagi and Mitchell Stevens. Certainly the coaching staff likes both of those players. And they.

"11 and seven Mohr out of a necessity in Game one of the Boston Siri's when Ryan McDonagh was injured. It worked really well in that series that worked really well. In Game two. They brought Luk Shan Braydon Coburn and for for that contest with McDonogh out, the Lightning were able to get their first win in that Siri's, and then they stuck with it for games three and four with McDonough. Continuing Tio rehab and get back from his injury on then, even with that done, I came back for Game five of the Lightning elected to continue going 11 and seven they kept Lucian and the lineup is the extra defenseman. We wondered. We talked about this on the last show before Game one. We wondered if maybe Cooper would go back to 12 and six for the Islander, Siri's since all of his defenseman. Other than Rudo, or we're healthy. He had kind of everybody has at his disposal. But as we've seen from lightning head coach John Cooper when he has a lineup that works, hey tends to stick with that. And he said that as much when I asked him earlier today, what it's like about or what he likes about going 11 and seven with this team. He addressed that earlier today during his zoom press conference. How we're winning the big part of it. So, um, you're Matt came back. He missed a few games. We want to have that extra defenseman in there. And, um it's been a good fit for us right now. Not saying we're gonna stick with it all the time. But Ah! Right now. It's been a pretty good winning formula for us. And I also thought Kevin Shattenkirk had some pretty interesting comments as well. The day before the day between games wanted to about how the 11 and seven benefits the Lightning defenseman when he talked about it during his player, though about player availability yesterday. Oh, I think it frees up. Ah, lot of us. You know, I think in a way guys were playing different roles. You know, I think even a guy like Ryan now that he's back in the lineup. Gets a chance. Teo get some favorable matchups offensively as well. And I think we just it allows us to roll our deke or a little bit little bit more. I think we're confident in any any group that we put out there any pair on DH. You know, we're getting some physicality of guys like Lucien Big Ocean Circuit. Chavez has been playing tremendous defensively with churn AC So I think it just gives us a lot of options. I know what kind of messes up the forwards a bit, but, you know, I think like, he said, it's It's just been great for us to kind of balance. Not only the ice time, but, uh Give guys you know who usually are playing in defensive roll some offensive touches and allow them to kind of feel feel better in the game as well. Kelly, What do you make of Shattenkirk comments there? Why do you think 11 and seven is working so well for the lighting when we've seen other teams try to do it against the lightning, and it hasn't worked out for them at all. Yeah, I think it's it's interesting to just you know, you mentioned at the end they're just the balanced ice time as well. And I think everything situational, obviously. So if the Lightning have Steven Stamkos in the lineup like we talked about earlier today, burns E. You know, Steven Stamkos, If he's available is goingto play most likely, right? And then he would go 12 and six but I think Given the circumstances, you know, having the seven defensemen has been great in terms of balancing the workload, taking some of the pressure, maybe in some of the minutes. Off some of their top guys, and I liked what he said about being able to put them in different situations offensively and how that's kind of benefited them so far, But I also think you'd be hard at this point. You know, unless you have a Steven Stamkos going back, you know into that forward group of 12 forwards. Who.

"More specifically lied. I know when we came back to the game the other night, you, Teo. I bet you spent the 1st 45 minutes. Having an open for discussion with everybody, not just the players, but all her bottle. And it was just about the issues at hand. What's going on in the world moving forward getting messages out as as the players from all the teams are bubble got together? And watch them come together and actually put hockey aside. Sitting here in there. Battling the loss of bones for two straight nights. And then the next morning. They were standing united Trying to digest what's going on and move forward. So I thought I was really impressive. And then after all, that they were all communicating with each other, and so anybody was questioning what's going on with the National Hockey League? I think cash. Other side should applaud them. Here's Brian Burns and Kaylie Chelios on Lightning radio. Welcome to the Lightning pregame state today all news radio W F L A and lightning power play on the I Heart radio APP. I'm Brian Burns beat writer for the Tampa Bay Lightning and joining Mia's Lightning radio analyst. Kaylee Chelios is the lightning. You're looking to go up in the series with Boston three games to one after taking game 37 the one on Wednesday night, and then we saw Haake postpone games for the last two days in solidarity with the N ba Major League Baseball and Major League Soccer to begin a discussion all diversity, inclusion and social justice not only in hockey, but how the hockey community can be an influence of positive change in society. Yesterday. During his media availability, John Cooper was asked if hockey has come far enough or of hockey is behind some of these other sports with these initiatives. That have been taking place in the world of late and I thought the Lightning head coach had some really good comments. I don't know, like we just sit here and say, Is it just hockey like I have no idea. That's the first I've heard about whatever Something's happening in the bubble, and I can't comment on on past. You know other other members of our coaching fraternity? All I know is is we just we need to get better is a society like And do I think There are a lot of good people out there. I do. To be honest, I think 99.9% of people are really, really good. It seems that when You know what's that line like You could build a whole life doing good and it takes a whole lifetime to build a great reputation, but it contains you can ruin it in one instance. And That's what seems to happen at times. So when, when You know there are unfortunate incidents. It's heartbreaking at times, but I don't think like I I'm the optimist on side of the people are good. Um and I think to answer your question is the league behind? No, the league's learning just like everyone else. And the leagues in a better place today that wass A couple months ago, and definitely that it was a couple years ago. A lot of these things that come up come up because it was years ago and and this is like when people are talking and people are putting these issues to the forefront. Now. You know, we're not talking about Game four of Stanley Cup playoff game, the second round every question I'm getting it is on. How can we be better? And this is how we're using our form right now. I'm telling you that the players behind me are all trying to use this form. To be better. We're standing united on this front. But there are going to be incidents in the past and it's it's sad. It's shameful that things like that happened, But let's learn from it and, uh and be better. Cooper. The beginning to that quote, was talking about allegations that former Florida Panthers G M. Dale talented, made several insensitive comments while inside the bubble in Toronto, and we'll wait to see how that plays out. The league is certainly in a better place than it was two months or two years ago, like John Cooper just said, But more progress is certainly needed. And Kaylie will bring you in. Welcome to the show. Thanks for coming on and doing this with me. Just wondering over the last couple days that the comments that we've heard whether it's from Kevin Shattenkirk, Luke Shin Braydon Coburn. They were both held media availability yesterday and I thought gave some really poignant comments. On thoughts of everything that they've been experiencing in the bubble the last couple day, couple of days. John Cooper, obviously and what he's been going through and some of his experiences. I'm just wondering from your perspective. What were some of the things that really stood out to you or what really struck you? From the last couple of days that that we've seen here inside the bubble in Toronto. Yeah, I think what would stood out to me initially and listening to Braydon Coburn and Luke Schenn speak yesterday to the media was. I think the word hsien used was unique in terms of What's happening in society but also from their perspective, being in the bubble and also being with all these teams, and I thought what Luke had talked about, you know, they played a game against Boston on Wednesday night, and it it wasn't all high fives and excitement after they won in the locker room, like usual, I think they all kind of We're trying to digest what was happening and he said, You know, you play the game, then 10. Hours later, he said. He felt like we didn't play the game because you're sitting there with 45 Bruins players and you're not talking. You know, we're even thinking about hockey or having these conversations and trying to educate yourselves. On the next day, so I think it's definitely a very unique situation and braiding, Coburn said. You never in his career. Do you think he'd be having these conversations with four other teamed in a bubble? And they've been very productive and you know for him, he said. It was enlightening, and there's a lot of guys that they're proud of both on their team and around the league. Players who they didn't expect to speak up speaking up on it's really just been a great opportunity, I think on all For everyone to listen and learn. You know, I think listening is a hard skill and when you're in a bubble, and you're you're asked to do a job the way they have been. It's It's difficult sometimes to understand or get a grasp on what's happening around you in the community and I thought the players did a great job as well as John Cooper just kind of discussing what the last 48 hours have been like for them trying to work as a league and as a team Tio address what's going on and also do the job on the ice? That's that's been asked of them what they're going to have to do later on today, Burns E. Yashin's comments about You're the first people he saw the next morning after Game three or 45 Bruins. I don't know if that was just a common area or if they were getting.

"Capping would happen tonight. Tampa Bakes exploding for four goals in the second, They beat the Bruins 7 to 1. They go up two games to one. In this best of seven boy Brian. Let's talk about The new guys coming in and guys getting an opportunity to play going 11 and seven braiding Coburn, Luk Shan, Zach Bogosian. I've set on on my show a number of times, and I think I might have asked you this question. I think it's the most talented deke or enlightening history. And these guys, Maybe we're proving that right now. I mean, covert and Shan are playing out of their mind. Big oceans playing really? Well, we saw what he did last night and continues to produce. I mean, What do you make of the back end right now and going 11 and seven even when guys do get back. Do you think this is something that John Cooper is going to continue to stick with? Um, he'll probably continue to mix it up. You know, it's a long play offs. You have to deal one game at a time for sure. But you know, coaches, you know, are always thinking ahead to Coop said a lot of success was playing seven defensemen going back over the last Two or three seasons. You know he's used it a lot and really use this successfully. Not a lot of coaches will do it as often. I think it was a couple of years ago. I want to say he did it something like 30 times I've written down in my notebook laughter after double check on that, But it was extraordinary number. I believe that was two years ago. And he had a lot of success with it. So you know, he's certainly not shy to go back to it. Where has probably a lot of other coaches like? Yeah, I'm not so keen on that. Well, you know the use The way they used them. And Tod Richards, you know, gets a lot of credit for that, too, because he's the one who's changing the demon pretty well all the time, so getting everybody involved in keeping them involved. Lucien has done a heck of a job, especially the penalty killing time, which is Specifically made for him. He's not very mobile. Let's face it in in a game where things were going to be going coast to coast, and there's a lot of, you know, open play and back and forth. And no, he's not going to get a lot of eyesight because that's not his game. But you get him on the penalty kill, where he's going. Cornered in front of net corner to front, Annette banging guys around playing a 60 or 80 ft game. Lucien is still really good. He's got a lot of experience, and he did a heck of a job, the last couple of games and so he feels part of it. That takes a lot of strain off of other players when he's out there, Same thing with Braydon Coburn, who's the consummate pro. Both these guys are they keep themselves in good shape. They've been around the block. They played a lot of games. And because of that, you know, it was a long time in between games, but they do have to get themselves ready and what they're capable of doing and playing to their strengths. And and they really have. So they've killed penalties. And they just kept the game simple. And you know, not getting too overboard and their ability to put in. I don't I haven't looked at the diminished tonight. But even last night I was, I thought, Well, Shen's probably gonna play six minutes, maybe seven. He ended up playing 12.5 and I went. Wow, That's that's excellent. That's great work. But what it does is it rounds out the group of seven terrific ly. Those guys did their job. Last night's game. I thought Victor Hedman was the best player on the ice, which we've said that many times over the last many years, but right from the drop of the pocket, Victor was incredibly aggressive. He was up the ice. He was pushing a plate had the park on a stick. He had that roaming feel about it right. It was like a rover out there really set the tone and put a lot of fear in the Boston Bruins. And I remember watching the first five or six minutes going. This is awesome. I love it when Victor plays like that, and so do his teammates. Well, when you have 70 men, you could do that, too, Because he's not gonna have to kill penalties. He can be on the power play a little bit circuit jobs playing a lot of power play, so Victor could do its thing. So all the way around. It worked really well. No Victor second game and back to back nights. He played almost 29 minutes last night, so and of course, the way the game went, they could arrest him at the end, right. You barely saw 77 in the last. You know, I don't know many minutes off the game because they were so far ahead and then you know, you don't know that advanced, but it worked out perfectly for them. So the use of the 70 men and then out front you have 11 forwards. And, yeah, you know, if somebody gets hurt, or you get a misconduct, you could say, Yeah, well, you know, you get short handed ups of front. We'll sure you know stuff's gonna happen anytime. But it also means you know, Coach Ross is going to get double shifted braking point's going to get double shifted, and also, it allowed John Cooper throw different books. That Bruce Cassidy there, coach because of that different combinations. How is he going to match up to that? What is it going to do to his lines? And I think that gave you know a lot of weapons that John Cooper and he used them extremely well. And big ocean. I asked Kaylie Chelios this we're talking about during the second intermission report. When you take a look at what he's doing right now, Brian, is it just a matter of him staying healthy, and that's why we're seeing him perform. Yeah, that that is a major factor. He He had a lot of injuries. The last couple of years and buffalo. It was. It was a process that was going downhill for him. He was mentioned this before he was. He was a major player for the Winnipeg Jets a few years back 45 years ago six years ago. I know it's a long time ago, but Up until his trade the buffalo and he was pretty healthy guy. As far as I know, Go on a buffalo. Then they go through what three or four coaches? They're losing games. You know, night after night. He's an experienced guy. And you know you're trying everything. To stop that. It's really tough for an experienced guy to go through that, you know, being in a leadership position. Then every time you get a new coach, you're going through a lot of stuff. And then he gets injuries. And next thing you know, you know, people are start down on you in the organization and outside going. Oh, well, you can't play anymore. Look at this guy making lots of money, blah, blah, blah. You go through all that whole process. But meanwhile, is not healthy. And he had hip surgeries and other issues, too. I think he had a shoulder issue as well. So he was never healthy. And then they decided to go young, which is smart by them, right And then a tree and he goes, okay. I'm good. You know? Just let me out of here. I'll try somewhere else and lightning. Took a real good gamble on him because he's a mobile guy. He's faster than you think. He's got a ton of experience, just not playoff experience, but he also has a great personality. And that was important. John Cooper is alluded to the new guy's going all the way back to maroon and Shattenkirk coming in early and then at the trade deadline, Bogosian being one of the three guys that were at it, they are really good personalities. That added an awful lot to the team inside the locker room and on the ice and on the bench. It's a totally different feel off this team that used to be pretty quiet and pretty tightly wound. Prior to seasons to that, and I think that made a lot of sense. Bogosian came in. Had a great training camp to, you know, in Phase three and was outstanding. And earned his chance to play in the play offs for the first time ever. And don't underestimate that hunger that he has as a first time playoff competitive. For sure. Brining bomb there. I'm Greg Llanelli. When we return, we'll listen to John Cooper and wrap things up. It's the last call presented by Jack Daniel's back after this on NewsRadio Wofl, a leading power By lightning.

"And so my point there, I guess I went on a little bit of a tangent. But that was not only impressive that They overcame some of the bad puck luck. But they did it without Ryan McDonagh and that Luk Shan and Braydon Coburn stepped up and they had some really strong shifts, and I was watching them pretty closely, just to kind of see what the experience would be like for them, jumping into a playoff game in those circumstances and I thought they more than held their own. Everybody played their role and stepped up without McDonough on the lineup and obviously continuing to have to play without Steven Stamkos and a key part of their power plan. Face off guy. The Lightning came out really strong in the first period. They had Boston a little bit on their heels, and a big part of that was the defense and Zach Bogosian obviously got rewarded for it on the score sheet. You think that's the template for Game three as well, getting the defenseman involved in the offense? Getting them activated? Is that how the lightning have to play to the feet this brewer's team and to keep these winds piling up as they go forward in this series? I think it's huge. Obviously, you have to be smart. You know, You can't just be jumping up in the play have to make sure you have support. But I think that's when the lightning are at their best is when the D are involved, and they get Boston hemmed in their own zone. They tire them out. They make their top lines play defense. And then by the time they're getting off the ice, you know the lightning at fresh legs, and they just keep coming at them and waves. And that's when I think the Yanni Gord line is at its most effective to when they could just get in on the fore, check and and play physical and wear them down. And eventually, you know, we see that fatigue kind of Hey off when the Bruins no defense I just can't keep up And like I said, I think last time in the pregame show, you never get tired when you're in the offensive zone. It's always when you're defending. So when you have the puck more, you know Maurizio sounds obvious. But when you have the puck on your stick and you're dictating play, and you have possession, which starts with your D getting involved in playing, it's a five man unit on the back Check. You know you're going to wear other teams down and more times than not. They're going to turn the puck over. And that's when you know the lightning. They have this pretty incredibly talented lineup. They can execute. Yeah, I think you saw that in the overtime, too. Like they give up the gold toe Marshawn late in the game, There's about 3 56 left to go. That was an opportunity where they went ahead. The Lightning went ahead for the first time 3 to 2, and then it just seemed like they were defending for the last. You know, 567 minutes after they scored that go ahead goal. Marshawn scores after some incredible pressure by the birds, it's an opportunity. There were the lightning you no can hang their heads a little bit. They'd finally grabbed the lead was the first time they had the lead. In this series came late in the game too late in the third period. Just like that, they have given it up. They had a chance to toe ended in regulation. They give it off. There's an opportunity there where Maybe they're feeling down on themselves. But you didn't see that at all. You saw them come out of the locker room, and they really just dominated that over time period. And I think maybe one of the overlooked aspects of that overtime was how well the Cirelli line did. They haven't had The best postseason so far, at least this far. It's filling the net offensively like they did during the regular season. They've been tasked with with some of these tough the opponent's top line. The Bergeron line here in this Boston Siri's But you saw it in overtime. They were the first line to go out to start that overtime session. They had a couple shifts where they kept the puck buried deep in the offensive zone. And you saw the lightning pretty much dominate that that overtime session. I can't remember Boston really having One threatening moment during that overtime to you. No, I think you're exactly right. I thought they started the game really strong, And it was great to see them and strong. You know, I think, obviously, like you said to giving up that goal less than four minutes, it could have gone one way or the other of Boston could have taken moment. Um into that, and They bear down and got through it, And they didn't make mistakes. And Boston I think, you know, maybe it was caught off a little bit. It seemed like they didn't come out the way they wanted to. And the Lightning took advantage. Kind of like Boston did to them in the first period of Game one. Yeah, absolutely. So certainly a lot to like about what the lightning dating Game two and hopefully They can carry that over into Game three about to take a quick break here, but first purchased tickets for the Lightning foundations. 50 50 raffle presented by Moffitt Cancer Center proceeds to help support hundreds of local charities. "They've had their moments during these playoffs, but you feel like they still have another level to get to and Alex score knows his line. They're going to be ready to go tonight. In a lot of these games were asked to kind of play defensive role. We get mashed up a lot of times with with with the other team's top line, I think offensively we haven't produced as much as we would like Tio, and that's something we're trying to get going a little bit, But I'm not worried at all about that, As long as we keep playing while defensively, those chance will come Let's bring in lightning reporter and broadcaster Kaylie Chelios to talk about that issue and much more. Kelly, by the way, has a new podcast called Catching up with Kaylie, and this week she's talking to Rick Peckham, of course, recalled his last game in Game five against the Blue Jackets. A few days ago. And that's going to be a lot of fun to listen to that interviews to make sure you check that out when you can. Really good to be with you again, and boy injuries are part of the game The Bruins don't have to harass the Lightning are without Steven Stamkos and Ryan McDonagh. The depth for the lining. Certainly is being tested, isn't it? Yeah, The lightning are deep team, but that is a huge loss. Losing a player like Ryan McDonagh. And the minutes that heats up playing on the penalty kill. He's obviously one of their top penalty killers, and he really does it all I think to coming into this playoffs, we saw him. Playing at the top of his game Me not just offensively to joining the rush. He did. He did a lot and he carried carried a lot of weight on his shoulders, So that's going to be Cem. Some big holes to fill. But, you know, like you heard earlier from Alex Killorn next man up and it's going to be chernykh and circuits of the younger defenseman to we're gonna have Tio Be prepared. T be responsible, keep things simple and eat up some of those minutes. It's great that the lightning have you know the experience and veteran leadership and Shattenkirk and And Big Ocean and you know, it looks like maybe Braydon, Coburn and Lucien are going to come in there and try to take some of those minutes as well. So Coburn, obviously a player who's you know, conditioning has always been talks very highly of from the coaching staff and the medical trainers. He's always coming in. Every training camp in tip top shape, so I don't think that'll be an issue for him. But Maybe a chance for him to bring some fresh legs in the ice. He's obviously got a ton of experience. 134 playoff games almost 1000 games under his belt, so it's nice to have that kind of experience on the back end can fill in when Someone like McDonogh goes out, and I think they're going to take some pressure off. You know, the defense and Basil F. C is a hole just by staying a little bit more discipline and staying out of the box tonight. Haley, What will you be looking for It the start of the game for the lightning. They talked about starting better, and I would expect that to be the remain focus. Yeah, I'd like to see a little more of what we saw from the 2nd and 3rd period. I think it took You know, being two goals behind in their second power play to really get things going from them that second power play. They were just kind of shooting. And I think that's what Victor Hedman might have said they had more of a shooter's mentality in that Towards the end on the power play, and they have to get back to that. But I'd like to see them just possessed the park more, you know, Boston You burned him a couple times on some mistakes made early on when they didn't come out in the first period, ready to play, and I'd like to see them, especially against the Burger Online tonight, you know, face offs. You have to win the face off, so you have to dictate play and that starts with puck possession and you have to win those face offs and try to make the Burger online. Play in their own ends and force their defense. Where them down and keep them on their heels. You know, you never get tired, I said to Brian Burns earlier. In every attired when you're in the offensive zone, so it's it's always you know, those extended shifts that force deeded to play on their heels, and eventually they make a mistake when they're tired, and that's when I think the lightning, you know, star studded lineup. They can execute there so I think I'll just have to do a better job dictating the pace, and that means possessing the park more winning the face offs and winning those 50 50 battles to establish, therefore check their great puck pursuit team. They just have to play like it for a full 60. Haley. Great stuff will do again during our first intermission, reports. Thanks, Greg. All right. That is Kaylie Chelios..

"You know, these guys pick up all kinds of knocks of all kinds of injuries. Throughout the regular season that they play through until it gets to a point where maybe they can't play through it, And then they go on the injured list. But a lot of these guys have issues that they're dealing with throughout the season s So when you have that four month pause That allows you to recover from from some of those things that maybe you're dealing with during the regular season. And for a guy like Coburn, I have to think that the Paul's was a huge benefit for him. On. He's basically coming into this like he's coming into it. Ah, normal, You know, regular season training camp, and I think backto last year as well in the playoffs, where he didn't play every game of that four game sweep that the Lightning When they fell to Columbus, but hey, played a couple of those games and when he was in, he was effective and he was one of the Lightning's better defenseman in that series. It was a lot to like from what the Lightning did in that four game. Siri's, but Braydon Coburn played pretty well when he was put in and he got his opportunity. And you wonder of the Lightning. Remember that and they'll go back to him for tonight. Yeah, his experiences really valuable like you said, And I thought he was the best defenseman even though you know, Game four was pretty ugly and And a tough pill to swallow for the rest of the team, including Coburn. Yeah, I know you and I have talked about just his face in the locker room after that game, not to go down that hole again. But you know, he takes it personally, He's experienced, you know, he plays He knows his role, and I think you know, I thought he was the best player on the ice in game for Defensively for the bolts and Like he said. He keeps himself in great shape. It'll be nice to see if maybe fresh legs, help him out and help the team out tonight and you know tough shoes to fill. Obviously, you can't replace a player like McDonogh, but they're going to have to do a better job of trying to limit A Burger Online's chances. You know, you're not gonna be able to hold them off. The score sheet necessarily are totally kept keep them out of the game, but you have to make them defend and I think that's what the lightning want to do. Moving forward is really possessed the park and show a little bit more consistency for a full 60. Yeah, There's two things that I remember from that game for in Columbus when the Lightning got swept last year, the first wass All the emptying that goals at the end and just that cannon blast going off every time and it's just like every time that cannon blast went off, it just kind of punctuated like they're done. The series is over the lightning of Lost Somehow, they got swept after winning 62 games during the regular season, and each one of those cannon blast was just another punctuation mark. On that reality, and the second thing like you mentioned was going into the locker room after that game and just brain and Coburn sitting there, exhausted after giving every ounce of effort that he had, and just Looking straight ahead. Just dead eyed that in the face had no expression at all. Never lifted his gaze to look at the media that was, you know, assembled in the locker room, just looking That something on the floor straight ahead and just never broke his gaze. And I'll never forget that look on his face of just exhaustion, Disappointment, everything all wrapped into one. It looked like Hey, was having hey was probably taken it, you know as worse than anybody else in that locker room that day. Ah! Getting back to today. Just do the lightning Do they go 11 and seven? Is that a possibility? We haven't seen that from the lightning. I don't know if we've seen it all this season where they've gone 11 and seven and it's been a stable under John Cooper. You know, in past playoff runs a they went 11 7. Quite regularly. Do you think maybe they do that as a way of trying to just distribute the minutes amongst the defenseman? A little bit more evenly? You know Ryan McDonagh. He does lead the team for Average time on ice amongst the players that air still competing right now in the NHL playoffs. He's first of everybody in the playoffs for time on ice. So do you go 11 7 and maybe try toe break some of those minutes off, dispersed? Um, a little bit more evenly throughout the entire throughout seven defensemen. Yeah, I think so. I mean, you could for sure. And you know, our good friend Steve Er's Nick, who sets us up. Made a good point about maybe bringing in Luke Shin, a seven defensemen, Steve and you know We'll see if McDonogh's out. You do maybe disperse the minutes a little bit more and take for Hagi and Stevens and and rest one of them instead. But, you know, I think it's tze going to be interesting. We haven't seen them go 11 and seven in a long time, but We have seen Cooper do it quite a bit. He's definitely not afraid to mix up the lines and change things up. If they need it. I don't see him changing too much. Up front because it was kind of just a slow start. And you know, we saw them really come on to their game in the 2nd and 3rd when they were trailing by two and had to use their second power play opportunity to give him some momentum. So I don't think that the lightning of any problems scoring goals It's going to be, you know, dependent on the way they want to defend and keeping things simple. So I could see them bringing in Luke Shana's a seven defensemen, He adds. A little bang, a little physical play, and that's you know, the lightning like that, And I think that bodes well against a Boston team that could certainly play.

"The lightning radio look the point with too often steady rate the silence of good food what do you do it left corner point of circle had been left corner Brayden point look at this point the goal line extended we have a short side rated a power play goal to make it to one lady with fourteen twenty seven one it is such a pleasure to sit in in the same booth with first update Michigan but if also Phyllis was it just that the commentary he tells you how you feel in no doubt yeah but what a goal by Brayden point I mean along the goal line and you could tell just you know was looking off the goaltender and Bernie a but not much room there one Topshop no it was beautiful it was a great shot he he had at ten times better scoring chance on the on the prior power play dead center yeah right in the middle got a terrific shot away and got robbed by Bernie who made a brilliant blocker save moving across yeah and so we paid him back with that once always is down yeah but the right hand shot you know being on the left wing side and yeah he's down this feeder almost on the goal line nobody nobody rushed debit willing to let him sit there so he's measuring things and and Bernie I wasn't fooled by you know any attempted may be you know these gonna make a pass it out but he did what ninety nine percent of the goalies do all the time go down hug the post but but their head is in the middle of the of the of the net because they want to be able to move let the kids on the right post yeah you want to be able to push real fast so the head leans just a little and he's down under the cross bar so there's maybe a five inch by five inch square six inch by six inch groups were right beside the head assault pointer side that got it and in what you're writing on the left side your stick see is way more than that the proxy is way more and that then your eyes do because it is more in the middle of the net so we had a pretty darn and like not a bad angle not as bad angle you think when you look at his body it's not about his body it's about the park and so he put it in an angle where all you do is click is rest and hit that spot yeah these guys are so good at that so you know pay backs a **** there for later from the bad angle apricot rob from take that they had he's thirty one points through thirty four games almost a point per game guide but it feels like he hasn't found that next year it's still very productive but do you feel like his game there's another level for him to get to this year I don't I assume he's pretty healthy out double hip surgery is really something that that's I've never had it but I've read about it enough and you can just imagine I mean you know that those your wheels any doesn't show any loss of speed but it's a confidence thing it's a feel thing maybe it hurt more than we know all I know you got hurt not time Lasher yet take so much treatment to be able to play I look back at me with the the production that he had when you think about having to have double hip surgery the pain that we was and we'd see him get treatment before games he was on the trainer's table all time not because you know he's lazy or anything he needed to travel there are you able to get in shape enough to play that's really something and it's great on the training staff too you know that they did what they did to get him to that level where he gets ninety points ninety two points whatever it was forty goals he's a super talent but he's got to recover from that your confidence level I I can't imagine it's much different than having the surgery you know that were the guys will tell ya or even a broken leg that stammer half yeah I always said you know it it takes your almost a calendar year for you to really feel like yourself again confidence wise the you're not favoring it or thinking about it in certain situations so I don't only breaking can answer for himself but I even feel like it also missing the first three games missing training camp as good as he has still it's tough you know you jump in and you're just jumped into the blender what's already gone and everybody's going a hundred miles an hour so he's good and then hit the wall a little bit and it's a little stopping it start I think the good thing about the Christmas break the entire league is down for three days you know and and now he's been grinding for awhile I think he comes out of it now at a place where he's more even with everybody again and then maybe even more so by the end of January once we come out of that it's gonna be nine straight data you know with without a game there so I think you know he'll be ready to really rock and roll than he certainly has not played bad break very seldom seldom you would you say here is a a bad game it just sometimes these more dominant than others for sure because he has defensive responsibilities as well but I I think he has more evened out with everybody now and I think it's just going to be on word not board as far as points going again how the whole you know thing we've talked about it in John Cooper set the stage saying you know we're going to be different this year we have to be because of what happened last year that could drop in Brayden point and stamp because all those guys are are you could always called victims of that how much are you willing to sacrifice of with that part of your game in order for the greater good yeah it affects the guys at the top more than anybody else and so there's a little bit of that flavoring into you know the situation as well Braydon Coburn good to see him back in the lineup that how do you think he looked and re surprises on route to was the guy who came out he had been playing pretty well with Victor yeah yeah yeah and I'm guessing they probably said the on hate you know just keep going we got other guys that have to play Colby's but I think over the ready for several days yeah I'm ready I mean I look I'm in practice ago he's fine so it's a matter of you know teams wedding and it you know when do you make a change and how long you make guys set so you know Kobe deserve the chance to get back in there I thought he did a fine job it's getting your fuel your game feel practices are good in their heart and their intense but it's not a game I thought he did a really good job as Braden always dies he's a he's a real pro you know break break Cockburn's just a really good pro takes care of himself listens understands what the game up all that stuff great teammates yes and he's a terrific TMA but what it made it interesting because we saw different effects combinations yes and I I like that you know you have to you know freshen them up from time to time just like you do lights you know looking for combinations and the first one that jumped out at you was circuit you have you know playing with Madonna and I'm talked about before bed we were talking about I wanted a long time yeah yeah yeah I'm a big Madonna fan because he's a he's a brilliant defenseman because he he sees the entire game he sees what the other team's doing but he also measures all for all four of his teammates to like note that guy doesn't have a no he's not going to get here in time he should be like see he's measuring all that stuff he's got that kind of brain for so he same with him is a treat and it's a real good really good steep learning curve for it because he talks a lot on the bench having talked to train Afghan to now Antirrhinum seltzer yeah you know we talk about things discussed things that said I'm not always right but I give my opinion and this is what I saw what did you see that feedback alone talking it's not always him saying you should do this you should do that what did you see what what we think are just talk right because then he understands how that guy thinks yeah that's the other thing that Madonna does really well he has a good understanding of how that guy you know what goes on between his ears how is he geared what makes some good many let some go any works with that sort of thing so anyway that's why I think that you know anybody playing with them is gonna learn and so good for circuit yet I also think it was a a two edged advantage there I think it it was and maybe how to assess a bonus for for circuit yet in some ways because basically it's been the classic third you know third crew third group so when you play with Madonna you play the top lines all the time right so you're gonna get a lot of match ups against top blacks so it's a confidence builder for his third circuits have been really really good how many times we talked about that out really really good because he's been physically was physical again tonight his play inside his own because he gets that now it's gone to another level not playing at the end of the stick not trying to steal pox and away we go not you know it it's it's good old fashion be physical knock people down yeah it makes you feel better about your game to get you ready and therefore his overall game is that much better his offense seven sub hasn't suffered at all now if anything it might even be a touch better so was I think the playing with McDonough sake okay and on the right side we trust you over there we've seen over there a lot you're gonna play against top lines all of this I think it was maybe you could look at as a reward a little bit there too and in turn act plays with heady and Hedman was playing with Rudy before but Rudy can't play you know every shift that that had a shell had been playing with multiple partners so the bonus as they turn it can play a lot of ice time he can play with had been and then had he has the same partner all the time too so little continuity for him is not a bad thing either so there's a lot of bonuses there in trading around the partners tonight a defense yeah that's fun do to watch and and break down Junker was up next it is the last call he is running but my and Greg when I like to one Tampa.

"Yeah show them that I'm ready for tomorrow. and that was one of the big debates coming into the season and it is it still may happen but with Kevin Shattenkirk coming in playing with Victor Hedman McHale circuits have now part of that bottom pairing defense with Braydon Coburn but he's a guy certainly they can elevate himself up to the first pairing it with Victor Hedman if called upon and circuits have from a point production perspective is one of those guys that can get points in bunches any show that again Thursday night in the opener. and you know it's interesting. being better defensively and being smarter with the puck as circuits have had just sat there in that previous clip is something the team really wants to emphasize this year the lady has a ton of talent not only up front but on their back and however limiting their turnovers and making the smart play are the two year is the team wants to improve upon this year and they're gonna need more of that tonight against the Panthers Florida played a pretty decent game two nights ago it wasn't great but it was their first game on the road against arguably the best team in the league they're gonna have the last line change thank so we'll see if that changes things for both teams of course when you have players like Barkov trow check in who would just to name a couple a joke when those gonna do everything he can tonight to get the match ups in his favor and when Tampa Bay starts talking about being better with the park and making the simple play play particularly on the road that's when you want to start doing those things because the home team has that last line change and sometimes they certainly can dictate the matchups all right when we return we're gonna talk to Alex killorn part of our team time segment we talked about the fourth one really excelling but how about the line of palazzo Sorel Lee in chlorine in the job they did defensively in the home opener. lord is gonna sit down with the Michigan we're also gonna talk to Eric Rowan sin get his thoughts on opening night and what to look forward to tonight it's all coming up next right here a leading radio..
