"Shots now in two great tropical flavors Ross good morning brother thanks for taking the time this morning of course of course we got a lot a lot here on were you surprised by the social a social push back that you saw from the likes of Sherman J. J. Y. on this proposed new CBA from the owners not entirely I think those two guys probably fall into two different categories in my mind Richard Sherman I think is default demeanor is to be combative and sort of always feel like everybody's out to get him so I kind of anticipated that JJ watt I mean they're both disappointing in different ways JJ walks I guess really disappointing because he's not an NFLPA player rap he's not on the executive committee he has not been parties negotiations and to judge us tweet what he tweeted a hard no on the proposed CPA without any contacts or reasoning is extremely disappointing I mean he he ever seen a Swiss Eric Winston who's the president of the NFLPA like capital calling in and talking to him about it or having some understanding and the real issue in my mind is that you know JC watts me to read you five million dollars Richard Sherman's made over fifty million dollars and they're very popular players they're big on social media they're very well known but that's not really the NFLPA east job to represent those guys more than the other two thousand guy you mean it there there sure the twenty richest guys in the NFL the NFLPA his job it's a very very serious one is to try to do what's best for the entire membership most of our guys that make the minimum for three years four years five years before they suffer an injury or the least expensive out and this is a very serious and a rare opportunity they have to get a great head start in life and get some measure of financial security for their families to these guys that have made over fifty million dollars it just kind of makes me laugh because they don't really understand they they they don't really even know what this whole thing is really about yeah I went and looked up actually who the player a base for the Houston Texans and it's Brandon scarlet who's making about a million and a half dollars a year and you know for Rossi if you were you know forgive me and I I hope this isn't a installed what do you call yourself a journeyman offense of linemen you played for a lot of teams you know if you were being made of this was being presented to you this proposal would you vote for it so now and then sold it all Maggie played for five teams in seven years and if I'm not a journeyman who is I know some guys are sensitive about that Sir no no are you kidding me I I I had a journey I'm thrilled I was it was the best job you could have an amazing I would accept it you know it is better across the board every single line item from the twenty eleven jeep yet and I almost feel like all these people on social media I don't really understand the dynamics at play here I mean in a negotiation you start with where you're at right now and to the NFLPA it was not great and they've been able to get games across the board up percent has is a lot and by the way what I love if the players got fifty fifty do I think they're deserving of it of course but they really don't have any leverage because they're not really gonna sit out game what it comes to a because of our short their careers are and the NFL knows that so for these guys to negotiate games across the board I can go to every single item on the term she and it's better I I think they've done a very good job here because the only thing that the players are really quote on quote giving up is there are giving up four teams playing one more playoff game and everybody plays one more game but the big revenues from that will come from television of which the players get fifty five percent like they benefit more from the extra game and from the extra two playoff games then the owners do but nobody seems to know this and it doesn't fit very little narrative the the owners are are getting the players and the players need to stick it to the man cross do you feel like because that that seventeen game there would be a capped amount on that seventies game obviously the guys who make the most they would feel that but do you feel like that is a fair trade off said that you wouldn't get paid a full game check for some guys for that seventeen game I thought that was the worst term in the entire term she it makes no sense to me it should not be capped the seventeenth green check should be the same as all the other game Jack's now it's important to know I don't think they would go to seventeen games and they wouldn't go till twenty twenty one at the earliest but it might even be twenty twenty two or twenty twenty three it was lined up with the TV contracts so it's only caps for guys who are already currently under contract through those years so it's really not affecting that many guys to defecting guys that are under contract through twenty two twenty three and are getting over two or three thousand dollars per game which by the way is one of the reasons why I think it's kind of silly that the owners even put it in there like why even have guys like JJ water Sherman or whoever not like it because you're not paying him there for eight that one I don't understand and and that's when I I would have tried to get rid of even though there were no affected me Moussa Maggie with you talking to a radio dot com sports NFL insider Ross talker seven year NFL offensive lineman Rossi it's interesting the way you phrased in terms of this deal a it's an improvement on the back on the past feel the past it was not a good deal from a player's perspective so is it a good deal based on the starting point they were at or do you think it's a good deal for the players I think it is a great deal based on where they started and what their court on quote giving up I think it's a fair deal all over all together I I I think you'd be a stretch to say it's a a a great deal or even a good deal for the players but I mean you go right down the line the minimum you should be eighty nine percent now it's ninety percent you are in terms of the spending on the cap I mean only sixteen padded practices the whole year I mean it's a big is much much better and frankly it's better guys on things I would never even cared about like all I care about if I were still playing would be to get as much money as possible and then we use the union decide how much of that goes in the benefits insurance salary it cetera as well as as little contact in practices possible because that's where in terror on your joints and we know what repetitive hits to the head Judy your brain go joining don't care about yet I go on other radio stations and frankly I'm glad you guys have been asking me and they're like well what about the franchise tax or what about prevails power and that's before this stuff came out and I'm sure they're thinking I don't really care about the five detained rich guys that are mad that they might not get super rich because they get franchise tagged for the five guys that are idiots that hit a girl or did something really stupid and are going to get in trouble as a result I mean we're talking about five guys on either end of the spectrum the super duper rich awesome guys or the guys that are criminals and get in trouble like I wouldn't want us to expand and howls of negotiating capital or energy on those terms yeah and I'm Ross I mean I would add to it I feel like you know that the the player should get too wrapped up in the marijuana stuff either because that's going to look like a big give back that they're gonna have to get to the owners that the owners are gonna want something on and to me that would be that important they did say they're going to close the window to marijuana testing to two weeks as opposed to what is it the two months that I think it is now Ross Tucker joining us about that seventeen game schedule though Ross I mean you're talking about you don't want repetitive hits in practice because of the damage it can do to your brain adding a seventeen game I mean you you can argue that that would make it any safer for the players how many players do what you think the percentages of player the players who do not want seventeen games on the schedule well a lot of them don't want that until they actually understand the economics of it yeah I'd love to sit down with all these guys I would do anything to sit down with JJ watt or Richard Sherman in a public forum and discussed as well when you recognize the amount of money that will be injected into the system for that one more game it's incredible I mean it be like at Christmas okay coach goes into the team meeting and says are you guys I just heard from the owner we can play one more game at the end of the year if you want and everybody gets a hundred fifty grand and I'm just telling you right now after the guys have already gone through the whole offseason training camp bill all season every one of those guys maybe with the exception of two or three super duper rich parents would take that in a heart beat it would help yeah we can play one more game for a hundred and fifty grand and him as you like imagine going back to your wife and kids and saying yeah I didn't feel like playing one more game for a hundred thousand dollars are you kidding me that's the thing that these people don't understand is how much money that will inject in the system and by the way Maggie it's a good point but the patriots play at least seventeen and usually eighteen or nineteen games every year and I don't notice them being any more injured than other teams I don't notice Matthew Slater Devin McCourty your parade here any of these guys having shorter careers now clearly playing one more game is there's more risk of injury and it's more wear and tear I just haven't seen any data and I know Bidwell talked about this to suggest it's a huge difference and it clearly has a mini huge difference for perennial playoff teams like the patriots better playing at least seventeen every year forever yeah I guess I just wonder about that cumulate should you know if Tom Brady had been playing one extra game his entire career I mean it would be as I all on top of the post season games Ross would be you know it be an extra season's worth there was no but I mean you already asked for their that really want even more on that like I wondered if he does he get the plates Elise forty five if his career might have been shorter if this had been in you know since they are fairly good yeah well I know but that's a good point about shorter career but you would be my point on that right so I played seven years I don't know but let's say I made three million Bucks right under the new CBA with it being seventeen games let's just say my career was shorter and having an extra game each year meant I played six years rather than seven years right well first of all I still get the same amount of money so I'd gladly get the same three million in six years and move on to the next phase of my life talking with Moussa Maggie right then get that same money in seven years and if we're gonna talk about player safety having six years where I play one more game is a lot better for my body it's been an entire seventy year or I have to go through an entire training camp and an entire season I could make the argument that the shorter career is better for players how are specially when you're netting out at about the same amount of compensation no Ross outside of that because the football fan is excited about potentially some are some are in the the expanse of the playoffs I personally don't love it I love it I I look at it where I don't need to see decidedly average teams in some years make it to the post season I would need to see doc colleges this past year in Kansas city taken on.

"On our Facebook page over the next few minutes we're pleased to welcome John maclean who's covered the NFL the Houston Texans up for years and years even before they were the Houston Texans job thanks so much for a couple of minutes early on the courts will really affected me in the run game they were dominating with the old line in the trenches they were winning that time of possession battle and they had the lead and then we get to the fourth quarter what she's a late in the game it was very strange they came out in the third quarter Texans didn't get fourth down so the calls random Janice Levin plays I thank god tweeted that doctor manner and it was time for them to call their mom beach White House look like they just rolled them and they were not going to let them make them throw the ball they were just gonna just abuse of over power that's what Baltimore done last week and so they were able to do it now ran thirty nine transferred seventy five yards it's almost like they didn't want to go be present to throw the ball because he was terrible growing the ball and last time they played group three or twenty six yards and four touchdowns so I think about midway through the third quarter after that Dr in which they just obliterated Texans front seven I don't know what they did but they were different detached like much better now of course they stop you Kobe present on the fourth down run after six yards one yards short of first downs to secure the victory yeah how big was that moment with three minutes to go in the fourth quarter he it looked like for ever until we finally took off started to scamper toward that first down light and then as you say they pulling down a yard short that was a big play back outside linebacker Brandon scarlet do have been duped ombres that's five yard touchdown run he bought like thank you birds that scored around AM and Scarlett was able to pull it down it appears that you say you scrap part is putting it favor because he's not the most mobile quarterback uses smartwater rather just about any other quarterback little more speed what made it a Scarlett was able to get it down with one hand save the gate and did well color made a big catch a third day out loud to taxes run out the clock and that was a big victory to the tracks in the evening yes certainly one of the major advantages in this game for Houston kind of tip the scales is deandre Hopkins will fall or the production with them and decide what that how how much of a difference does it make one fuller is back on the field well Brian pointed out afterward it opens up a lot of things on there are transient options market players it benefits you know they had five plays in at least thirty yards for passes in thirty three yard run by Carlos Hyde and whatnot gives was able to do down the field except that blog coverage about canceling the blog coverage for the thirty five yard touchdown was because the safety was worried about fuller and a corner geared body yet they help with the the safety and so there was a miscommunication that for it but I feel they don't have to worry about anybody else and so she makes a big difference in the passing game he also makes a big difference in running that New England comes in here with best defense of lake like say bill Belichick will depend spoiler not kids everybody loves to see deandre Hopkins give the game ball to his mom or to another member of his family and that we heard the story what does the de Andre say about his relationship with his mom well ever since I drafted him in two thousand thirteen we've done stories on the it is mom and a special relationship they have and what happened are getting acid thrown in our face blinding are but that really brought them closer together any he gave one balked at night after touchdown Bob and the other one to his sister can be that third when I don't know really what to give it to probably fan but it's a really big deal to you have to get out believe anything they're making a movie out that did not have stopped gives us that Hey who's pulling the sports writers it's covered you the longest I think you know I got a sag card out put in a good word for you well who's gonna play de Andre Hopkins LOL at Baylor to be somebody was great deal back computers place wouldn't that be funny yeah I'm a claim with us here from Houston after the Texans beat the cold air intake over first place in the AFC south after hours they me lord here on CBS sports radio I design watching continues to get smarter great decision making and and just as it turned into a really mature quarterback when you kind of watch is progression over the first few years John where do you feel like he's made the biggest progress they all had a bad game across the board at Baltimore the Watson and I thought he was beyond that I thought the team was beyond that and I was not sure what team would show up for the colts I knew they wanted to win may I know is a big game but you just don't know Watson was able to back bounce back but they need their options is so bad in the first quarter they mowing scored twenty three points all year there's only one team worse and that's why she did she was seventeen even in the ravens game it was zero zero after the first quarter right so they actually got a three a lead in this game and it once watch and settle down I ended up to our ninety eight yards he averaged nine point nine yards per attempt birds that was five point two so he's able to throw down the field and a lot of that and do as protection it's strange I mean when they went to London to like Jacksonville Jaguars will come and alternate chat and they sacked him one time then they come the Baltimore Baltimore is only sixteen sacks all season they get it seven times so the gold they only got it once a week it's time to throw specially when he's got four option out kids he makes plays down the trail I was going to ask you about the slow starts because that's been something that's a pattern for this season what did they say about how they come out of the gate well they tried everything they track re writing the script you know they work on it right now would we ask him about it every day we blast you know saying that you're only better than Washington that would solve and had they been able it's weird or seven four despite those slow starts a handicap for buying today I'll see him when a lot of games where they said to come from behind to do it they would love to play for with the lead but I don't think they would know what to do with the lady they prefer adversity higher degree of difficulty that that's what seems to be the mindset watch for this year's race is best when they're down as he was they were down at the stage at the kia store the last ten points watch look really really good so I'm guessing the dead napa Baltimore hang over those people worried about it you know what would be the the residual effect of getting humiliated element T. bank stadium in Baltimore well maybe the the biggest area of growth for him as a starting quarterback in the NFL is his ability to be resilient and to bounce back from bad starts I think he's able to do you have a lot of those college but he was able to make a lot of big plays when it counted he's very he's very relaxed all the time you never seem wild he reminds me a warm but mark Warren was always just a picture of called no matter what kind of adversity they had on sale and watching his side why and he's never had he doesn't have a lot of bad games and I don't think he's ever it to the right John McClain from Houston Houston Chronicle with this here after hours on CBS sports radio following Thursday night football it was good to see JJ watt pre game and he did an interview on NFL network and box and he looks like he's in good spirits and and die you know it's good to see him smile however the he leaves a big void in that defense so who sets the tone when you're down a guy like JJ watt we used to have birds of every on Kalani but he's not here all right their nose tackle DJ raider sat at a great season G. G. J. is the later up front and they've got some other guys of leaders but they don't have any by like watch there anybody get quarterback he's playing a run better than he's ever played and because of a man's them a lot I mean it giving up two earned seventy three and two and honored said five yards rushing the last two games and other non evident there we always think it was a pass rusher but not ever did manage to run hurts them as well and but it's these used injuries ever had to come back from a tort package not one of those wheels will be back like last year when he had sixteen sacks made first team all pro when you look at where they stay in now at seven four and tops in the AFC south I mean it's it's pretty good for this point in the season despite the inconsistent with what would you say is the strength of this team John I would say Bob it's not defense again get quarterback Nick struggling covers that were missing three D. then sit back say digestion rate cornerback Bradley Roby Lonnie Johnson junior all of this started and they still were able to limit to Kobe present are twenty nine yards but his top almost defensive backs when you can't get pressure on the quarterback they don't want to blanch late mom Allen so they got a score I was amazed that they could win a game like this tonight and only have to score twenty points would New England coming in and having the best defense in lake valley guys sixty pensive touchdowns you know I mean I look this up the patriots about only allowed ten opponents to get in their Reds on thirteen taps well yeah that's unbelievable as their plus eighteen nobody else is more than plus nine so dragons are going to have to play really good operative Yang last two times I've played patriots last two years like lost in Foxboro about three and seven sub makers say thank you actually when again their second K. in history over the patriots because if they lose it and the calls when they're back to a first place tie into Texas did not sweep the surge by split it so these two things I think you're going to go down to the wire and yet everything that they want is still right in front of them there they have the control of their own fate and now they've got a couple extra days off all right you can follow John on Twitter at McLean underscore on underscore NFL I'm glad this one did not ended a brawl inside didn't seem like he was going to happen between these two teams anyway a lot of respect for each other there take tons of talking in recent years but it's it's a rivalry and is born out of respect is very physical but I think these pains that men are like each other but they do respect each other John it's always good to talk to you I hope you have a great thanksgiving thank you so much for a couple of minutes a great thanksgiving thank you very much for having me always good to talk to John has such a great sense of humor and I say this a lot of times about older athletes athletes who very in touch with their own new sports mortality and so they take nothing for granted but at the same time they have kind of a grizzled wisdom to them and also they don't generally to take crap right they've been around the block so long as they feed all they've done it all whatever you do what you have to do to survive kind of a thing and you don't really care as much what people think about you and John McClain definitely fits the bill as a sports writer and always has really good stories as well it's after hours with Amy Lawrence here on.

"And friction John give me an idea of just the the the significance of the moves today you know to David Clowney obviously being shipped out Lehrer me tonsil coming in I mean these are big foundational changes how important are these two moves for the Texans we all knew what he was going to be tried and I've been riding for ten days that they want to trade him to Miami for Laramie council and well he did not want to play for the dolphins and he could control it by not signing is franchise tender he wore them to find another trade partner is next two choices for destinations were Philadelphia in Seattle and so they worked out the deal with Seattle for two backup linebackers in the third round draft choice and you guys can imagine bill o'brien is big getting roasted here bill o'brien's in control people say well I don't have a general manager will you do is just the fact of general manager and he's running the show so I makes the cloudy deal and everybody's doing it any trades god Martinez rank and they were cutting to Carlos Hyde who will help to Johnson replace Lamar Miller and then they tried it before Keyon crawls under a reserve corner from New England and I can't the hearing that something was up and I kept tweeting out still blank the tax rate for left tackle didn't have any idea they're going to give up let's see two one eight two and as an out and out they get up for his six plus tonsil plus Kenny stills so these modes of bill o'brien made in other than cloudy these motors were made for winning now they needed I think I wrote that that Sean Watson is crying tears of joy Romeo criminal was crying and the truth is there deep as well be as good without cloudy replacing him is Brandon scarlet afford your former undrafted free agent but tonsils played really well for three years he's under contract this year two one a day he left I picked up the fifth year option is the canon change but I know they're going to try to tension after this season and Kenny stills as god speed like will lower to play with the dish dish on the opposite the Andre Hopkins so for winning this year we know we all knew clan he was gone we just didn't know what but the tonsil trade and again he still correct straight shooting up to Texans have a great offense as long as watching strikes out Hey John for those who are familiar with the Texans why can you explain why they they wanted to trade county because on paper you think of Clowney NJ they want to pass Russian forces in now no of the counties in Seattle currently is our set was our second best defense of player what great against the run in a great right do sets last year darn overall eighty two point nine yards of games first in opponent Sanders per Kerry three point four he played a big role in that but he wanted to be a black Primera pass rush and use that read transaction so they were not going to point it is so bright colors two days ago is that it's not about whether US warning yet it's a difference in value from a financial standpoint in other words what he wanted more than they were then they were offering and I want him to success laugh less than a demanded so we knew they were going to try it and they should have done this back before the draft but they ask for too much they answer to ones will somebody want to give them to once again and others branch as the franchise player so the July fifteenth deadline came and went and the reason they didn't get more from him is because Seattle could end up in the same situation glad to get more play more than they're offering and then they'd have to branch eyes next year and run the risk of not having him around last year next year but these are a great addition for them is going to a four three defense yeah he's got blood on the weak side you'll get to Russian space he did that here a lot but he also played outside linebacker sometime defense coordinator Romeo canal with moved him over the middle Tory was lined up to over the center right next to the center sometime in what would be on the safe side so Cornell was very creative and cloudy goes up there there's a great season as a pass rusher maybe you'll get paid like Primera pass rusher he went to the candidate they Julius peppers and trucks we have or have been in Miami yet all season does work when he was working out with the Whitney Houston and that's first time he's done that so maybe large things heated up to was yeah we'll see John McClain Houston Chronicle joins us on game night ten Montemayor Mike wells with you on ESPN radio in the ESPN app talk about a big time day in the National Football League with the Houston Texans as they trade to David Clowney he winds up in Seattle in in talking about shipping him out there me tonsil and still Kenny stills come in from from Miami and you know the one thing that's really interesting to me are two players and I think we're all gonna talk about John and you tell me if I'm focused in the wrong place how do these two trades impact to Sean what's the number one but how much of an emphasis does this put on JJ watching healthy for the Texans well first of all let's go back to what we're glad he was there why always got double tree that clown got a lot of double tapes to without going on the it was not in another Archie player then what is gonna be even more pressure on and he's gonna have even more tension he had a great year last season sixteen tracks first team all pro four seven bobbles he just he just turned heel a so you just turned thirty and he's in great shape where he was coming off back surgery last year but they need another player maybe with the Mars was he had only four sacks last year he Benny that let's see before you got her the year before he had like twenty one over two years so they got to have another pass rusher date thank you very light Jake of mark who came from in the C. Seattle deal Martin had three sacks off the bench that we're putting forth the Texans of I like yeah as a three four situational rush surged to forty two and Romeo canal might be able to get something out of him but grills gonna manufactures sacks with pressure through strategy the good thing about the operands where we tonsils thousand issue that there it's it's Greg Smith former GM would not reduce twenty Browns contracted two thousand seventeen with two years remaining browse straight out loss for that yet traded to Seattle and they try to find a left tackle ever since they had targeted tonsil blight six weeks ago and they pay dearly to get in they got still strong and they'll still twenty one touch down the last three years well the last two years he's a good date threat when he came out Oklahoma was drafted by the walls of the fifth round he ran a four three eight it combines so will fuller went up four two nine at the combine they've got some deep speed to play with the Andre Hopkins and you the shuttle watch the likes of that so maybe is first and second round picks on Robinson tackles who are starting at guard right now and now they traded for Laramie tonsils so that gives them along with that Martin was a second round cake is the first time they've devoted attention to the offense of line in a long time between Titus our this year the last time they drafted nonphysical I'm in the first round was delayed brown two thousand eight Hey John you did the day if the south in the past week is there's been zero news that we just have some quarterback Andrew luck sorry Lamar militarily CO we've talked about to trade so you ordered dean of the AFC south who is your favorite as of now limitation would be the taxes are eleven and five last year they wanted out big holes before luck retired because the calls one to transit Houston including at the playoffs but Sean Watson and a great year last season despite getting sacked sixty two times not valid another hundred thirty two times played month with a collapsed lung and broken rib his second third receivers will floor do you do you take that last night the gates starting running back Lamar Miller missed two and a half I got the octave foreman missed the whole season and the had to work the ideas Hey still group per account of thirty one touchdowns you glued twenty six passing narrator said she is a one oh three writing any completed sixty eight percent and when you think of all those limitations it was really good and now he's got an improved options of mine and for now help the receivers they still don't have Lamar Miller Carlos side do jobs that are going to have to replace it but the softness revolves around lots of night thank Jesus he's on the verge of being regarded as a lady by everyone Hey I'm John great insight thanks so much for joining us tonight on a big night for the Houston Texans enjoy this season yeah thank you very much I appreciate you having me there is John McClain the Houston Chronicle right there on game night ESPN radio and ESPN apple and Mikey here you know all this talk about today being Klaudia I guess I go back to what I said to John there I think this is a big moment in time for JJ what they need him to stay healthy and they need him to be productive do you think JJ walk and do that that's the biggest question are we know how good of a pass rush today do what is what unfortunately JJ watt has on has dealt with a lot of injuries over his career the pressure is going to be on him because now he's going to get even more double teams without Clowney to help on Pafford pass first apartment we heard John McClain talk about how you know haven't county and forced it allow county has freed looks now teams and I gonna let JJ watt get to the quarterback he played all sixteen games last season with the the previous two years combined he had missed a total twenty four game so if JK walkers stay healthy Houston defense will be right up there but the key is he has to be on the football field and he has to have a president president out there on every single snap yeah I totally agree by the way if you're just tuning in G. dating cloning is a Seattle Seahawk Laramie tonsil and Kenny stills our Houston Texans and for the record I should point out it doesn't sound like there's a revolt in the dolphins' locker room at this moment and I think a lot of that is that is that the dolphins felt like it least from what I understand that they you know they were shipping out tonsil to get cloudy well now they ship them out they got two first round picks offer tonsil and still so it feels like that all worked out very well for the Miami Dolphins and speaking of the dolphins and the Texans and all these moves coming up next here on game night who is now the favorite in the AFC south after all these move today we'll tell you next year listening to game night on ESPN radio and ESPN at this show.
