"Is the list. The list is what determines who matters in this business Green list that is correct, and it is my list and mine exclusively. So on my stage, manager Brandon Phillips said to me, Greenlee, can I try And guess who? The players the active players out? Who? Ahead of James Harden? I said, Well, statistically, it doesn't make any difference. This list is exclusively About my opinion. So what? James Harden being traded yesterday to the Brooklyn Nets. It got me to thinking who are the top five players in the end Batou day active players who have never Won an NBA championship. Here we go. Number five. I'm putting the honest five He's young. He is not as historically successful as so many others have been. There's a lot A lot of the players you'll see on the list. In fact, all the players you'll see on the list have generally played a decade or more. Some cases closer to two decades. Kind of hard to figure out where to put you on this on this, But look, he's a two time M V P I think he is and historical great already. When you consider the way he is sort of viewed in the embassy today. I think he belongs on the list. I will put Yannis Antic Ocampo at number five on the current list of players in the NBA who have never won a championship again. It is not about who's the best player this minute. What about the five historical greats? We're currently without an MBA ring Number four and four are putting Russell Westbrook Was a former teammate, of course of both Katie and James Harden. Russell Westbrook has made it to the first round of the playoffs four times to the semi's two times for the Western Conference finals three times made it to the NBA Finals once remember back a million years ago, when okay, see made it into the NBA Finals. Waking up with the sun up is kind of different. Not waking up to an alarm is kind of different kind of nice. So for the week and had several things you know, set up and good to go, which we'll get to eventually. But then something happens that takes the oxygen out of the room. And catches you off guard. And that is the passing of Joe Morgan. On DH. It's It's odd goes, it's been one of those years were getting to the point. At my age. The guys whose baseball cards I collected seemed to be those who are nearing the end of the of their run. Just this year. Lou Brock, I had him. Joe Morgan. I had Bob Gibson. I had him Tom Seaver. I had him. What he afford. Maybe not, but I knew of him when I was a kid. And Joe Morgan, somebody I've met. Like I guess any of the others once or twice when I did. It was in the radio booth at the stadium. Andi spends a lot of his time there and is known Joe Morgan. A different levels in his career will be the cowboy Jeff Brantley. Standby. Jeff. Good to have you How you doing? Well, I was doing really good until I picked up my phone just a little bit ago. A tough guy, but it is and we're talking it before we jumped on. You came up with the Giants, of course. Joe Morgan was Giants broadcaster when you first came up a CZ well, correct. Yes, he Waas hey was working for ESPN, but he would come in and do some games with John Miller and Candlestick back in back in the day. And you know, that was really my my first connection with a with a childhood hero. I mean, I'm sure there are plenty of guys out there that I thought that they would hit better by flapping their their back elbow when they got to the plate. You know, I was one of them when Going up and thinking, you know, after watching Joe Morgan, do it, it worked for him. And you think? Well, maybe it would work for Mei. I mean, it just No, it's just not. It's not a good, not a good situation. I mean, it makes you makes you just feel a little more human than you realise. You probably were like a lot of other kids who did that. And then their coach or manager said, What do you doing exactly Your Jaggi right now, And I'm sure that I know this because talking with Joe, but he got a lot of Comments for that, even after his career was over, and it is in his broadcast in time, and I know people would say, Well, what was the ultimate? You know? Why did you do that? To begin with? We all do this kids thinking it would help us. It didn't help us nearly as much as it helped you and I I guess it goes back to his relationship with Nellie Fox when he first got to the big leagues. Yeah. Guess Morgan had trouble keeping his back. Elbow up, Nellie Fox said flapping like a chicken will remind you to keep it up, and apparently it worked. So you know, in a legendary way, of course. Defensively he was. Ah, It was a heck of a ballplayer, too. But just over the years a number of gold gloves over sluggers M V P s world serious champs. I mean, not many people out there with the sort of Awards and and I guess, accolades and opportunities he's enjoying life. No. And the thing about Joe is it wasn't just mean. We remember him for baseball because he was so great. You win back to back M v ps. I mean, nobody ever forgets. You mean That's one of the reasons he was in the Hall of Fame, but You if you get to know Morgan, just a little bit closer. I know that when Brandon Phillips was here, there were oftentimes that Joe would come down into the locker room and he wouldn't go in the locker room. He would wait back in and rich those office and he just sit there. 10 15 minutes entertaining guys and then the whole the whole time he was waiting to To give Brandon Cem Cem information about something that he was not doing or something that he was doing well, and I mean that's just the way the Joe Wass. Whether it was on the baseball field are whether it was with the baseball assistance team. I mean, whether it was on the board of the Hall of Fame, and there were just so many different things that Joe did throughout his career and a lot of, um hey, never raised his hand to say, Hey, this is what I'm doing. You know, I need some help here. He just made sure that that it got taken care of, and he made sure that players Yeah, and about the broadcasting the team with John Miller. They were just a classy combination, and they held down Sunday night Baseball on ESPN for about 20 years and That's that's a great combination because of the two personalities. I mean, if you knew John and eunuch Jo Jo played the straight man and John played It was almost a swap between color and play by play the way that they did the game. Yeah. And you're a broadcaster. Now, obviously other people you paid attention to over time that you emulated in any way or picked up a nugget from in any way. Yeah, I think listening to keep Jackson listening to Mel Allen. They kind of had that little bit of Southern Southern Miss, I guess is the best way I could say it in their voice. It's a relaxed approach, very relaxed. The president's very relaxed approach and just kind of let you but the thing that I enjoyed about both of those dads is they kind of gave you a little piece of themselves as they were doing the ballgame and they weren't To overly serious about Every single thing that came up and there was a little bit of banter that went on during the ball game, and I just thought it was a great listener. And I think General John with the same way. Yeah, no, it absolutely wass and the idea of teasing something to get people to stick around, is now everywhere in broadcasting and I'll be on line, but he was great in coming up with something just in the course of a game us. John Miller, whatever. I'm making this up, but let's say with two outs there six ways to score from third. What are they? It'd be like Sunday night. I got to go to bed. But I'm not going to go to bed till I find out with six ways are to score through with you the whole way through. Had a wrinkle in there that nobody else in baseball ever brought up and nothing that you know I had ever considered. You can think of three or whatever, but you can never come up with the other three. Well, I think that that's what made Joe the perfect color guy because John Miller never had to worry about a question that he would ask because he knew that Joe would have the answer. Right. He knew that Joe understood so much about the game, not just the The rules and the physicality of playing, But the mental approach and just the way sometimes you have to put yourself in a sweetheart deal to make a place sometimes. Yeah. Talking to people around here who were in Cooperstown when he went into the Hall of Fame and said it was a very emotional time Forum. I mean, some former players. I guess they had to pretend to not emotional..

I'm not sure which one is there tonight for the matchup Long story Short, though, the main point of bringing this up Brandon Phillips, the former readies back in uniform tonight, playing second base and batting cleanup for the Lexington legends. He had a game tying double in Ninth inning last night in his debut in the Battle on the Bourbon Trail, Take a look at.

"Tree fallen kind of whistle things, So that was one of my great memories of him. One of my one of my favorite people. Just a great great ballplayer ended up turning his career around and does a lot of good things for the community. So that's my Justin Turner. Great hitter with a hideous beard. Justin Turner. We move on to former teammate Number eight with Sam Liqueur 2015. Brandon Phillips, like I said a little bit earlier. You know the act. It feels like an active first. But one thing that I learned about Brandon is that he really loves the fans and he wants to go out there and he wants to perform and he wants to make it entertaining for him, just like any other entertainer. I never viewed baseball as entertainment. I viewed it as competition for me. That's just what I'd always done. And I didn't feel like I need that. I thought the game was beautiful enough. Is it wass? But as the game continues to evolve, you see a lot of that happening. You know, the bat flips and hair flips and this and that and the other thing. But he really loved his fans. 2015. He had a bowling tournament for charity. I remember it and and I just remember sitting down with him and saying, you know, do like you're really I take it for granted because you're always out there. Kind of, you know his showboating. That's fine. You're always out there showboating and and I think sometimes people lose track that of how good of a player you are, because they're distracted by the antics. But Your you know, as good of players as I've ever been around with the things that you're able to do on the field, so I was like, I know you're going to keep. I know you're going to keep doing your thing, but you know, don't don't let it take away from how talented you are a ballplayer. Certainly one of the great defense of players in baseball history. "But machine was a guy who spent the last five years in the cubs organization. The phillies grabbed him in the rule five draft. And in the as made a deal for him. But if you look at between Aa and AAA AA TENNESSEE AAA IOWA last year for Chicago, he hit two ninety five. With seven home runs sixty five rbi and eight stolen bases. But the thing is because he was a rule five pick even though he was acquired from the fills by the way the fills got their deal. That's kind of a cool thing when you take a guy role five. And then you. Trade them. Then you get to hold onto. The as it with Cana. That's what the as did with a guy named Nate Freiman, usually rule five guys. Don't stick around for the whole season and offered back. But if he doesn't stay with the as all year, they have to offer him back to the cubs. They. Probably would. Take him back the interesting thing with the as well is that They had a guy that was taken by Cincinnati. In the rule five draft and they had to parker he was. just recently offered back yesterday and was a guy who. Has Destroyed and Major League systems or in systems at the AAA level anyway. There are just a lot of four guys out there. And sometimes you understand that sometimes you don't remember in ninety four I went down to spring training and I saw the giants down at hi, Corbett, field on Tucson when the diamondbacks still had their home down their. Longtime Indians. Spring training home. Nobody's in Tucson anywhere that hi, Corbett field. The home plate faces the Sun. Which is scary. But this Guy Brandon Phillips was the fee nominee giant system, and he was gonNA play first base, and he hit like he was like a Gabe, Kappler type of minor leaguer and Adam, Pyatt. He'll like three sixty at every level. Up The bigs couldn't hit the side of a barn. So I said. It's a jump. It's always a jump Josh Donaldson when he was a AAA. Tell me how hard major league pitching was to hit. If I said someday, you'll be an American league. MVP Won't be with the as we both would have believed it. Would've laughed. "Super Bowl World series, you know, but that night I was there for that, and I will never think of it. I don't want to say if it was just a home run Derby because what it meant for this city at that time in a miserable season, tohave the spotlight on this city and to have one of our own performed that way. He became the third rates player in the history of the home run Derby to win the home run Derby Day. Parker wanted in 89 or 85. Eric Davis wanted in 89 Todd was the first Red's first player from the host city to win the home run Derby. Ryan Sandberg did it with Cubs when the Cubs hosted the home run Derby in the All Star Game in 1990. But I'll never forget that night watching it. I watched it today while I was working in the office, the highlights and it just it was a really cool take me back moment to five years ago. Tonight and again, I laughed when I watched the brain and Philip's home run over the weekend to think it 39. Hey, still wants to play baseball in some way, shape or form any way, shape or form And he's doing it for the Black Sox Pro baseball tour and independent Baseball League. And to think of what Brandon Phillips the impact he had. On this franchise and I went back and I looked this afternoon all time in the history of this franchise. Here's where Brandon Phillips currently ranks games eighth all time at bats. Seventh hits, 10th runs, 10th. Doubles nine. This is not among second baseman this is in the history of the franchise. Home runs 12 R B I 11 stolen Basis. 15 extra base hits 10 Aah! Total bases 10 times on base 10. That's 1234567 That's eight different categories. He ranks Top 10 in the history of the franchise. One of three players in history, the franchise with a 30 30 season. "Or USA inside pitch reds dodger tonight kick off of three heck of a pitching matchup tonight. Luis Castillo for the reds Clayton Kershaw for the dodgers. I mentioned Brandon Phillips back in the news with a nugget off Twitter from John Paul morosi of Fox Sports who tweets Brandon Phillips told me he's continuing to work out and intends to play in major league baseball this season. He's also interested in playing for USA baseball at the at the W B S C is I click on that. That's the that's the World Cup Olympic Games. And that's the governing body for baseball says he hold on. Let me get that that tweet up again. I just just closed it out. Let me finish his thought on Brennan Phillips. He's interested in playing for USA baseball. All in the premier twelve Olympic qualifier November where free agents and non-roster forty man roster players are eligible that from John Paul morosi of MLB network today. Brandon Phillips now thirty seven years old. I got news for Brandon there is there's not much room or time given to players in major league baseball who were thirty seven years of age anymore. It's the way the game has gone certainly somebody who's not a a high performing high performing at a high level and a star player. Brandon played in just nine major league games last season spent time in the minor leagues with the Boston Red Sox got called up for a nine game. Stint at the end of the year hit just a buck thirty. I would think it is a tremendously steep uphill climb for Brandon Phillips to get a gig. And major league baseball teams goal of the younger players. They're younger players. They're they're cheaper players in the this case, they're going to be more versatile players Brandon Phillips, although we did show a willingness to to try and play third base last year with the Boston Red Sox. As well. But Brandon Phillips not walking away yet. Still looking for another shot in major league baseball. Let's take a look at some scores tonight. Low actually may go down on the farm while I'm pulling up the numbers on triple A level tonight of note in that game in the bats are playing and. Get your score on that tied three three as they go to the ninth. But of note, pitching wise tonight and Philip urban is rejoined the Louisville bats tonight. If you missed that earlier Lucas SIMS got the start tonight pitched, well, he came over in the Adam Duvall trade along with Matt Whistler. Lucas sim. Started tonight six innings sits six hits three runs. He walked one. He struck out ten not bad. Let's see a quick spin through the order nothing of significance from an offensive standpoint. We'll go to AA Chattanooga or something caught my eye. They're outfielder. That's a heck of an outfielder. Double a Chattanooga for the Chattanooga. Lookouts? It is tailored tremendous and left Jose Siri and center in TJ frito in right Fritos the kid from Nevada couple of years ago that was draftable. But most teams in major league baseball didn't realize he was eligible to be drafted the reds had done their homework. And after the draft was over that kind of went to him and said, hey, you were drafted we're going to sign you. We'd love decide you. We'll give you think it was seven hundred and fifty thousand dollars. It was the most at that point ever paid to an undrafted free agent following the draft. He signed with them and has impressed at this point this season out of the gate a little bit slow batting to thirty five. But that's a heck of an outfield with Friedel and Siri and tremendous tiller another hit tonight. He's one for two with a run scored. He's batting three. Fifty five. It does stick out to me and look into the box where he picked up his I saw a fourth air. And now, I don't see it. Maybe I was looking at a different column I see an error for Tyler Stevenson the catcher. I swear I saw an air tonight on Taylor. That was his fourth. Remember thinking that seems odd. Maybe I did not read that stat line correctly. The first.

"All right. Let's keep rolling. No reason to slow down at this point. We've got one hour to get it done. We've been here there and everywhere in the first two hours a little bit of reds conversation. The first hour bake time John Ross conversation. You had a surprised I always was kind of in my mind going into the show think what topics are gonna hit. What topics may not hit lease from reaction standpoint? Whether it's Email or Twitter, Facebook or or calls, and the John Ross really took off more so than than certainly the reds conversation in the first hour. I I have this to begin this hour, and it's a yearly topic. There are a number of topics that I I put on the calendar to do every year at at a certain time last Friday night, we did the seventieth anniversary of the opening of the Cincinnati gardens this one kind of floats. But I noticed it over the weekend. So I said all right rolling it out on Tuesday night. It took place at reds training camp spring training camp in Goodyear over the weekend Saturday in reds camp. Was glove day. Now, you may think what what's glove day. Well Wilson sporting good company Wilson rolled into camp and all the reds players who have Wilson gloves got their gloves. And as soon as the video is posted. I'll tweet it out. But they roll in with a truckload of the gloves, and they're packed in bags, and they're dropped off for the players Tanner, Roark here, your myths in these guys all have contracts with some with Wilson, others with other companies. Maybe it's Mizuno or something else. Backdrop UCLA Puig. Here's your Wilson. The new a to hundreds or thousands Jose Peraza as a Wilson. Alex would they received their gloves and Wilson helps them break in their gloves on Saturday. They have a master craftsman. His name is I think Shegeki also. And it's his gig. That's what he does. He basically. All right. You like what? And he will take out a mallet. He'll take out his board. He'll start working on his craft the mitt because under understand it is the best friend of a baseball player. There's bat tool, and then there's their glove. There has to be a particular field and abandoned a comfort level with it. I remember the the story of Brandon Phillips and what he did when he was with the reds. He would place five gloves in his locker. And he would have three practice gloves all smaller than his game glove. And he would have a backup glove any whatever game glove. And Brandon Phillips would always say you can touch my practice clubs, but no one touches my game glove. No one. In fact, he would put a bat and glove on top of his gloves. So he knew of someone touched them at the batting glove at moved someone touched his glove. In fact, he he joked at one point that Matt Lehto held his glove ones. But didn't put it on brain. And said, okay, that's kind of. Okay. But defense is important. If you got to have a hand in that glove for one hundred and sixty two games. It's gotta have a feel. It's gotta be broken into your comfort level and designed around what you're looking for. And the reason I Brent one we bring this up every year because everybody has a different way of doing it. I'll give you my story is as a kid. This is how I was taught to break into glove. If you're a dad you've got a kid playing baseball if you're about to break in a glove. There may be an idea added over the next couple of minutes that you can use. If you have an idea you'd like to offer by all means I was old school taught by my dad,.
