Governor Josh Green had warned the death toll would rise as search and rescue operations continued at a news conference aired by Hawaii News Now. Coast Guard spokesperson Aisha Kirksey said Coast Guard members moved quickly earlier this week. She said they helped rescue people who were forced to jump into the ocean to the wildfire. The initial information we received was potentially up to 100 people had entered the water and would be in need of assistance. "About two and a half weeks in the Major League Baseball season we welcome you. Welcome you in to big time baseball, your host Tony from junior along with my partner, John Heyman. John, how are you today? I'm doing, how are you, Tony? I'm good. Baseball is in full effect. We got some already emerging storylines. Now, we'll start with the Tampa Bay Rays. They finally lose a game after going 13 and old to start the season. You and I talked about it last week. I mean, every year the season starts and we kind of just put the Tampa Bay Rays in the corner. And every year they come out and they surprise everybody. This one has been pretty remarkable. I must say. Yeah, I'm always about the most surprised. I never even have them as a playoff team. Are they certainly look like one? I understand they're scheduled to this point has been generally easily. They finally played a quote unquote good team in the Jays and lost but still 13 one very impressive. We are still in April, no guarantees of anything that Milwaukee Brewers and the Atlanta Braves of 1982 the brewers of 87 were the previous teams in the modern era to win the first 13 and either of those teams won the World Series, so no guarantees, they also did lose two pitchers that effluent on the IL and obviously sadly Jeffrey springs looked like an ace also will be on the IL, but I mean so impressive at least going in the last night that they were at home ring, the opponents, I think it was 32 to 6 homered more than the other team at scored. They'd just been dominant. So my bad, once again, raise our goods. A lot of baseball, a lot of baseball to be played, so we can't hold it over you had too much because we don't know how this thing's gonna shake out, but certainly to start the season Brandon Lau has been just absolutely terrific on the offensive end. You got a rosarian coming over from that WBC. He seems to have been carrying it on. And you mentioned it. It almost felt like it was a matter of time, right? The injuries started to pile up. And they lose their first game to a good Toronto team. But nevertheless, 13 and O pretty impressive start. Really impressive. I mean, you know, I know they played Oakland and Detroit and, you know, they played some bad teams to this point, but to win 13 straight against major league teams. I mean, I guess somebody could tell you Oakland's not really a major league team, but they do have some major league players. You know, it's very impressive. You know, I wonder being in Tampa and this is not a good excuse for me because I so called expert. They have almost no media coverage, even though that's a midsize market. No media coverage. So I think some of their guys, you know, are probably certainly undercovered and probably overlooked. Arose arena terrific player. I mean, you know, it was incredible in the postseason 2020 and amazing in the WBC. We should think about at least I should stand up for you in this. More about some of these guys obviously wonder if Franco terrific talent, right? Lao and several others, they're highly underrated. You know, it's a little bit of an advantage in a way to be in Tampa Bay. I think 'cause, you know, they don't have any negativity in terms of the media either. And as you saw, a lot of their players have done better in Tampa than after they left. So I think it's a double edged sword. It's positive, yet it's negative in terms of not getting the publicity that they really deserve. Most of you listening right now are probably multitasking. Yep, while you're listening to this, you're probably also driving, cleaning, exercising, or maybe even grocery shopping. "Like, they get the most out of their people. That's obviously in part scouting, but their player development south of the analytics staff and the nutritionists and their sports medicine people, like all those people, I think play as big a role in anything else. I'm not sure there's really a secret behind it. It might just be that they do their thing better than you do your thing and over the course of time, no matter how much they're paying or not paying their big league club at manifests in the standings. So my favorite number and I think you'll back me up on this. You might cosign in this number. Early season number on the raise is they've hit 32 home runs and they've allowed 6. Brandon Lau has 5 homers, the rays have allowed 6 homers as a staff. Those numbers in Major League Baseball are impossible. Like maybe the maroons did that back in 1884, but you do not see those type of, you know, that type of split in Major League Baseball is bad as the athletics are as bad as the tigers are the split between the best and the worst is never that pronounced. No, a 100%. Nothing has aggravated me more than people that have poo pooed on the raise first two weeks of the season based upon their quality of opponent. They're playing big League clubs, okay? This isn't the Dream Team playing Belarus in a friendly overseas. These are Major League Baseball teams and they're beating all of them by an average of 5 runs like you said. The rays aren't 13 and O with a run differential of plus 18. No, they were destroying everybody. I'm not surprised that they've pitched. I told you a few weeks ago, I thought this might be the best staff they've ever had. I am surprised that the lineup has been this good. Obviously, they can't keep this kind of pace up, but you build this much ground early in the standings. Recent history says, at minimum, you're likely to win your division. All right, I'm going to put you on the clock. We got four more topics to get through the most improved players in baseball. Yeah, I'm going to give you two. The first is Jared. We've already always known that this contact quality is off the charts. And he's always hit a snot out of the pool. But I'm most impressed with his improved approach this year. Right now is averaging more than four pitches per plate appearance for the first time in his career, and he's reaching three ball counts far and away at the highest rate of his career. So he's really doing what he does best. He's having a lot more patience within the epi and enabling him to destroy fastballs in the strike zone when he gets them. The second player, the second most improved player baseball, is labor Torres. Everything is sharper. Everything is crisper. That fateful hole in a swing buster. If it's not gone, it's a lot smaller now. His swing and miss ray is down all the way to 19%. All right, his average launch angle has been reduced a lot. You're seeing fewer pop ups. You're a few lazy flyouts. This is also a sentence I never thought I would utter. Glaber Torres leads the American League in walks. He is putting things together right now in such a way that really surprises me. He's still only 26. His best year was at 20 three. He's a really good example that not all player progression is linear. I think there's a real chance that labor tourists get some down ballot MVP votes based upon some of the early returns. And some of the process based stuff that we've seen. And you know as well as I do, that that particular skill of commanding the strike zone for hitters is something that usually doesn't change a lot during careers, power might change, batting average might change, but you know what? Drawing walks is not something patients at the plate is not something that typically changes. In how many more days, another week, the Padres will have Fernando Tati's junior back. I'm working on a story on what the ideal Padres lineup should be when that happens. What do you think? I'm going to give you my ideal top four based upon some numbers and based upon some feel. So to give our listeners a peek behind the curtain, a few days ago, you email me and asked about Manny Machado and the importance of lineup protection for him. Generally speaking, like this is something that you'll find in the far corners of the Internet that I frequent. It's not commonly accepted that lineup protection and baseball is a real thing on balance. But I do steadfastly believe that when it comes down to individual players, anecdotal examples, it can make an enormous difference. And what the numbers say is that if many Machado has a hitter behind it with some presence, think about Josh bell last year after they traded for him, just merely being able to have a guy hit behind you, that can go yard that pitchers are going to pitch around for whom you might see some more fastballs because that person is sitting behind you in the lineup. Here's what I think the Padres should do. If I were made their manager, I'm leading off Fernando Tati's 'cause I want to maximize his plane appearances. He gets on base plenty and he runs exceptionally well. I want to hit one Soto two because over the course of time, that's where you want to hit your best hitter. It is my belief that he is their best hitter and I want a left handed hitter hitting behind Fernando tatis with those open holes and right in right field obviously in a shift list world I think him pulling the baseball with Fernando tatis on bass is all those first to third opportunities. I'm hitting Manny Machado third in part because of the lineup protection note that I just gave you. And I'm hitting Xander Bogart's fourth because even though he's not your traditional cleanup hitter slugger type, buster, he makes so much contact. And there's gonna be so many people on base. And in that big ballpark, he's gonna spray the ball around constantly. He's rarely gonna come up in those circumstances with no one on base. He can go weeks without coming up to the plate. And the pitcher going out of the wind up. I mean, that's how good that lineup is in front of him. And he's gonna spray the ball around and you're gonna have very few empty at bat. So I say tatis, Soto, Machado, and Bogart. I would go that way too, but I will tell you that after,

You've got Shane mcclanahan looked great, right? And maybe at some point, the pitching gets healthier and you see Tyler glass now out there and I'm a patino fan, so maybe you get to see patino. So there's definitely like some anonymity on that pitching staff and with the rays and the way they use pictures and you just never know who these guys they're rolling out there, throwing unhittable sliders are and discover their names and then they're amazing and sometimes they're in the rotation and sometimes they're in the bullpen and maybe you don't pick them out of a lineup. But there's always a lot of talent and it'll be interesting to see what if anything the rays do to adjust to new rules because you know that the rays are always going to be at the forefront of whatever the next innovation is. And while the Dodgers and Phillies are similar in that, I worry about both of those teams depth. I think that there are just more potential worst case scenarios available to the Phillies, and so I don't know that they will make the postseason, but I think they will be a lot of fun to watch. Parts of yesterday's game were fun for Philly's fans to watch, and then there were parts later on that were less good. But watching them actually notch some runs against the Graham had to feel good for them. We got to see Turner do a cool slide. We got to see back to back triples and then know what kind of fell apart. But other than that, you know, the play was good. So I think the Phillies are going to be at times incredibly frustrating at times a tremendous delight, always imbued with a sense of confidence that will not necessarily be reflective of their record at any given time. And again, just the wettest boy out there. You know, marsh, I hope you never change. So I'm taking the Phillies. Okay, all right, they're a few different directions I could go here. It's kind of a toss up, but I guess I'll take the twins. Sure, yeah. Okay. I'll take the twins. You could tell him very confident about this pick. But look, Byron buxton healthy for now, right? Yeah. Doing some DHA for the moment, which is not as fun as buxton in the center, obviously. But there's a lot of interest in, obviously, weather buckston has a full healthy season. Whether there will be a Joey Gallo, bounce back at all. I enjoy watching Christian Vasquez. I enjoy watching cross Korea. Like Luis arrives not being any not being here anymore that hurts. Because he was quite fun. But I also, I kind of like this pitching staff. I enjoy Joe Ryan, Pablo Lopez looked great on opening day, you wanted to run is kind of amazing. So, you know, and they've had some tough times, and they lost the most value to injury last year if you go by Windsor puffer replacement projected that they last. So they're due for a bounce back. They spent a 108 days in first place last year and they wear my pick to win the central, although I was not at all confident about that pick and might have gone toward the guardians of Trisha Mackenzie had not been hurt, but a lot of players I enjoy watching and also a lot of question marks and what are you going to get out of this guy kind of questions that I'm looking forward to having it. And even though you don't get buxton and center for now, you do get Michael a Taylor and center, which is the next best thing. Yeah, I think this is a good pick. Thank you. What good pick will I make? You know? If you were me and you had to make a good pick, we'll pick what you pick. I think I picked the Yankees. Why are the Yankees still unpicked? You know? Yeah. So I guess here's the thing about the Yankees being

"Yeah, and of course, Shane baz had Tommy John surgery in September 2. So that's a big less. I know that with the race of rotation and bullpen, those concepts are sort of amorphous and Jeffrey springs was a reliever, then he was a starter and he was successful as that too. So you never know who's going to make that transition with this team. So mcclanahan had some shoulder issues late last season, but he was great when he was healthy. So what are the expectations for pitchers who could really step up at least in the absence of buzz in the temporary absence of glass now is there another springs type of conversion success in store or patino, as you said, who could really take a step forward? Yeah, maybe not a conversion, but I think some of those depth guys that I mentioned, I mean, if you told me that one of that trio of Torino patino or Fleming took a huge step forward as a really consistent starter this season, I would not be surprised at all and it could be any one of them. I would be completely guessing at this point and it could go anyway and I believe a Pitino has obviously the raw talent electric fastball, great breaking ball. Has the delivery and everything to make it work. It just hasn't so far at the big league level with the raisin. Injuries played a part last year and everything. You just throw a 97, I believe you touched 97 in his last spring outing and he said he hasn't thrown 97 in spring. So that has to be considered a good sign that he's healthy. You've heard a lot of good things in camp even since I've been here back already about his work ethic and how focused and motivated he looks coming into camp, so that's certainly a guy that I could see taking a step forward and then another one would be their top prospect. Taj Bradley, who's just optioned yesterday, it's likely to begin the season of triple-A Durham, also electric stuff, really good kid. Everyone's really impressed by his work ethic and just the way that he thinks and he could be another guy from within who would be a big addition to the rotation at some point, probably more likely this summer just because he doesn't have a ton of time and triple-A, but that's the kind of guy that I think you can pretty safely bet on as well. So Ben mentioned that the team didn't do much by way of free agent additions, but they did do a number of extensions. You talked about springs briefly, but if I can pivot to the bullpen for a second, talk to us about Pete Fairbanks. First of all, why does Pete Fairbanks always look so nervous? You don't have to answer that, but he does always look quite nervous when he's on the mound. And that made more sense in 2021 than it did last year. We're really, really leaning on these segues today. He had a superlative 2022 his ERA was just above one, his 5th was below one. So what sort of motivated the extension there he's a guy who is a little bit older, he has had injury issues in the past. How did this come about? I think he is a guy who loves playing here. He is very much like a raised pitching success story, you know, every time that they've clinched the playoff spot four years in a row since he came over in 2019, he has gone out of his way to find Eric neander and the champagne celebration or whatever it was in 2020 and say thank you for trading for me. He loves it here. They love having him. He obviously has incredible stuff, the big fastball, the breaking ball. He's a guy who's comfortable pitching late in games, somebody who can work in the 9th inning or obviously the way to raise their bullpen anytime in high leverage. So I think it just kind of made sense as a fit for them wanting to stay together and knock out some of the potentially contentious arbitration type stuff and negotiations. Just let kind of focus on baseball rather than focusing on the business side of it. It's a pretty good deal from his end just to have that financial security for a guy who's had Tommy John surgery twice. Maybe that's why he looks nervous. I'm kidding. He's actually one of the more confident players I've been around. I think it's just like a very manic energy that takes place when he gets on the mound. That's probably a better way to describe it. Resting nervously. It certainly intense, I think, with the crazy eyes and everything. Yeah. But no, I think a lot of their extensions too kind of came about as a result of the fact that they didn't do a lot this off season. Eric neander kind of mentioned that they had a little bit of financial flexibility that they used to kind of keep this core further in place. And it's something that they've done really over the last year plus or so. You look at the wander extension yandy signing F one for three years, Brandon Lau, obviously a couple of years before this, they really like this group and the core of it and they want to keep it together for a couple more years to see if they can finally push it through to win a World Series rather than just making it to it like they did in 2020 or early playoff exits like they've had the last couple of years. So there were a lot of kind of motivating factors to it, the desire for continuity, Fairbanks comfort with the rays, the rays comfort with Fairbanks and the same could be said for springs and yadi Diaz as well. So we should talk a little bit about the offense, which was not a strength, right? It was well, it was a strength relative to the next team that we're about to talk about the tigers. In part, because of the Meadows British trade that the race made with the tigers. Would have led the tigers in home runs if he had stayed there and hit the same number of home runs. But that's again more reflection of the tigers, which we will talk about. But the rays had sort of a middle of the pack offense. It was good enough. But where are the areas where it could improve either with better health or better performance? It's a little bit of both, but better health is the big thing. I mean, you look Brandon Lau played 65 games last season due to various back issues and really wasn't himself even when he could play, talk to him yesterday and asked him to just kind of explain the difference between how he feels the spring compared to last season and he said, well, it doesn't hurt when I swing anymore. I said, well, that's good. So that's a huge thing because he is basically the left handed kind of middle of the order bat that they need, hit 39 home runs drove in 99 runs in 2021 when they scored what about 200 more runs than they did last season and you could point to Brandon Lau is a big reason. For that change, Wanda Franco obviously is the face of the franchise basically now. He was limited by injuries. He looked like he invented the game last April, then legs started to kind of give out on him a little bit due to various injuries. Then he had the hamate fracture, not long after he came back and that can stick with you. He was still fine. I mean, you're talking about a disappointing 117 OPS plus. That's pretty good for a 21 year old, but you want him healthy, you want Brandon Lau healthy. And then you need to see steps forward from a guy like Josh Lowe, who has been apparently one of the talks of camp here so far. He looks a lot more confident, a lot more comfortable taking good swings, taking good at bats. He's a guy who could again answer the need for a left handed bat that they weren't able to get this off season. I heard some excitement about Luke Rayleigh as well the way that he's looked. He's a guy that got last spring and I think he played 20 something games up here, but the fact that they held onto him when he was out of binary league options all off season and didn't really even play kind of their waiver claim game that they usually do to keep him. I think says a lot about their belief in him and maybe what their models have in store for him. So those are the guys that really stand out. I think basically you go across the board and aside from maybe yandy Diaz and Harold Ramirez, I think it's probably fair to expect more from just about everybody who's coming back even parades. I mean, he had 20 home runs, but this is a guy in the miners who was known for getting on base higher average and everything and he hit two O 5 of the three O four O BP. So there's more there as well. I think it's fair to say. So this is going to be sort of a new look outfield. In some ways, in that this will be the first time in a long time that we haven't seen Kevin kiermaier patrolling center field for the trap. Is Jose Siri view to sort of their long-term

"I don't think there's anything even really talk about here, but before we dive in, I'll obviously ask you how you feel as well. We can talk it out. We can add the debate. But Lance mccullers junior sounded like somebody who's gonna pitch in this series after Tuesday's game four. To be fair. But he was scratched with forearm tightness. He's the Astros best pitcher at this moment without him, the Red Sox road to the 2021 World Series could be through Shane bars, drew Rasmussen, Colin McHugh, Jose or kitty, Jose Garcia, framber Valdez, a Christian Javier Zach Greinke hybrid. What the fuck is that? It's insane. It's absolutely, and the way that Greinke's last month of the season unfolded. He was on the cover of all he came back and made two starts, then went back on the IO and then was only able to throw a bullpen ses because it was the end of the year. So he's probably not going to be able to fill him into the rotation. And if he does, I don't see him going like four inning seems like his max at this point. So the Red Sox if the colors is out, the updates don't sound bad. I think the coaching staff weighed in on it yesterday and think that he should be fine. But getting a forearm tightness to diagnosis right before the ALCS is supposed to begin on Friday is just classic bullshit Red Sox look. And this is why this team pisses me off because like we talked like I talked about on the last episode, hilarious. Absolutely fucking hilarious how the Yankees run into the race. Look, the Yankees should have got the job done against the rays last year. I'm not making any excuses. Blake snells on that good. But no, but they had Blake's now. They had Charlie Morton. They had Tyler glass now. I know they battered Tyler glass now. I know they they handle Blake Snell too at some point. But that was and then the race had a beast bullpen that year too. So if you have pictures that can actually give you length and then you have a bullpen behind it, that's worth something. That can at least be competitive. The Yankees when faced with competitive situations usually lie down. So the Yankees get that version of the raise. And then the Red Sox get this version of the raise, which, yeah, a 120 very good, but starting rookies in games one and two, and then a hybrid pitcher and game three and then Colin McHugh and other hybrid pitcher in game four, like give me a break. I'm never gonna forgive Brandon Lau, either. Like we can't over 18 but 9 strikeouts in the LDS and he beat the shit out of us with three home runs in like ten RBIs in the final fucking series of the season. This is what we're complaining about. The Red Sox are not as good as the raised, but the Red Sox didn't get the raise. They got Brandon low getting no hits in a four game series..

"Ends October 10th back with Alex barth of 98 5 the sports hub and you can follow them on Twitter at real Alex barth, apparently doesn't know how to center himself on his camera as we're doing. Podcast. Are you with us? Yeah. Okay. You could move over to your right just to see, I get because there's this. I don't have like a perfect way to balance everything here. Way to prep for this podcast, I appreciate it, Alex. You come through for us all the time, you're awesome. All right, let's spend some time as we wrap it up on the Tampa Bay Rays and the things that the Red Sox is going to have to do. First of all, they're starting pitching is going to have to control the top 5 batters in their order which figure to be. Randy, rosarina, playing left field, wander Franco, the super sensation rookie that was brought up in mid season and he hasn't disappointed. He's their shortstop. DH Nelson Cruz, who has experience up the wazoo. This will not be in a bigger than life situation for him batting third. Batting fourth cleanup is third baseman yandy Diaz and batting 5th, second baseman likely to be batting 5th Brandon Lau with a lot of pop. He had three homers in a game I believe recently against the New York Yankees a blowout win as the Tampa Bay Rays clinched a hundred win season in the best record in the American League. That's one thing. And the other thing is their rotation. The Red Sox are going to face Shane mcclanahan in game number one. And he it seems like we say this every year, Alex barth, about Tampa Bay pictures. He had a breakout year as a young picture in the ray's rotation. He's a left hander he had a ten and 6 record this past year, 3.43 ERA. He starts game one a little more than a year after he became the first picture in MLB history to debut. Make his debut in the postseason. He posted a 3.01 ERA with 99 strikeouts over the last three months of the season. And, you know, he is a guy that is really, I think in a try and give Tampa Bay a boost right out of the gate. Yeah, I mean, I think they've got a bank on him because without glass now. And we talked about this a while ago, like, I thought Tampa was out of it without glass now, because I wasn't a huge fan of their pitching rotation now. Mcclanahan's come on and sometimes it's hard to project with rookies right and he's obviously been that guy. So he checks a box, but Ryan Yarborough struggled Michael walker's struggle. So if you can, if you're the Red Sox, and this is obviously easier said than done. If you can take a game started by mcclanahan, you really put the raisin corner. It's not impossible for the Red Sox to win it if they lose game one. But it kind of becomes tough for the race to win it, right? If they lose it because then they're pitching potentially against totally blown up. So mcclanahan is a pivotal player in this series. I don't have a splits in front of the Red Sox when it pulls up right now because I'm actually curious, but I think this first game is going to tell us a lot..

"Two thirty three home runs. I would say next season though. Don't you have to take india over hayes. India's clearly cincinnati's leadoff hitter. He has more power. Yeah i mean in other lineup. We bought with thirty five home runs batting right behind him. In the honest india's got that professional history of three seventy five or better on base percentage. So i really locks into that number. One spot i so i have a lot of shares of him and i remember what i said the show that i didn't think he'd be that star player. I look at this line. And i don't say that that does look like a massive star but it amounted to a very good fantasy season does the exceed that probably not. But he's probably within range of it i. "The one to stand swung on and hitter. They edited blimp. That ball is high as far as god. It is a stand tony. Ian home run oddity touch off the deep left center field giancarlo known sequel stoke barlow. It's a two run blast. A blast or room blast a roof for stanton and the cream corn and the yankees. Beat the astro. Six to three. He went three for four hours. A single double had three. Rbi's hicks the lead single in the eighth inning jordan. Montgomery no decision but solid. Three runs over six innings. Here was a manager. Aaron boone on stanton who is dominating physically being in a good spot. Where he's he's on time a lot and you know letting the body then go out and cash the checks you know. Okay here's cash checks cut. I feel like when i came back to the studio came back to the body. Cash the checks there. You go here is stanton so what has changed other than your body cash. The checks the beginning of the year. I was getting pitches to hit. And and not squaring them up. So i'd say that's a the adjust. He also said he also admitted that. These pitchers lately have been making terrible mistakes by throwing fastballs. Right down the middle. I mean why would you ever throw him fast. I agree. I don't know why. Would you ever come anywhere near the middle of the plate. So mistake pitches for sure series finale. Today you've got garrett cole taking on lance mccullers junior yankees have won five straight and seven of eight yankee baseball on the fan coming up at twelve twenty five also of note from baseball you had last night. With the managers they were in seattle mariners. The orioles were in seattle mariners. And you got a no hitter from. John means which is Incredible the third one. We believe it is already this season which is Pretty wild here was means. Post game certainly emotional for. I can't put it into words right now. it's unbelievable. I don't even know what to say to be honest with you. Know felt okay all game. I didn't really have to change up to the end. And i'm glad i got it. Got it going. Holy face. Twenty seven batters. The one guy that got on it was a wild pitch on strike three. He was thrown out then second and so he was pretty impressive. Yesterday that close to a perfect game was on one hundred and thirteen pitches. Unlike joanna santana had three hundred dollars they asked john means about the diminishing of the no hitter because everybody throws one now. Jerry no not as not as special these days. John's still feel specialty. You is still special. Yes oh my god Anyhow and by the way you you always go to that. One hundred and thirty five pitches. That johansen tanna through nolan ryan. "Can go out there and throws a couple of things. I think that's where the rays have an advantage you know. They're they're top couple. The couple of players probably aren't on the same par page with the yankees or the blue jays. But i think their their depth there you know fifteen through twenty six twenty six through forty really really helps them out and gives them a boost and i think that the rays again probably the homer in me a little bit. I think they find a way to make the playoffs. And i think they find a way to. I wouldn't say win the division but definitely secure a wild card spot and somewhere between the range of eighty eight to ninety. Two games is what. I'm looking for at least probably around that ballpark. As of right now we also have to remember. I mean the the rays have never really been known for their offense. That's never been. They're calling card but they're returning pretty much everybody in their lineup from last season and that was a team that almost averaged five runs a game and they might be able to do that this year. Especially if you get a full season. Healthwise from awesome meadows and brandon lau and Ignani d. as in you we we see what randy arena can do over a full season. So i think that's definitely going to help them as well so i think second the division i i would say if i was to rank it right now i'd probably say yankees one raise to blue jays three big back and forth between those three teams red sox and then five i mean who else but the orioles. Yeah i mean the red sox compete who knows the orioles might get some some young guys that play out of their out of their shoes and play a little bit. Better with the red sox. That'll be an interesting head to head interesting for for two fan bases but The so saying with the pitching before we get into a little bit more of the offense. Because i think the offense is really interesting. What are your expectations for tyler. Glass now we saw some good things from him. But i mean at this point he really does have to take over as that. A says that number one guy. Do you expect him one. Do you think that's a must. Does he have to come out there and dominate every time he gets the ball the majority of time since you have to clearly make himself that number one guy. And what are your expectations for tyler. Blasio yeah i think you know. Throughout spring training these story line has been him finding tunin his secondary stop. he's learned a slider which apparently looks pretty good. I guess it's a combination between a slider cutter in that is in compliment to his high nineties. Fastball in his twelve six curveball and he's twit around in the past with the change but really it's just a a slow fastball that allows hitters of time on it. It looks like i mean he's legitimately going to use this slider slash cutter into into regular season games which is huge to have that third pitch that. That's what you need if you wanna be an ace top of the rotation guy in this is his year. This is his opportunity. he's no longer Behind the scenes of flakes nail and charlie morton and others. This is his first opening day. Start and this is a year if you want to really light up and maybe get a contract extension or get that big boost in arbitration. You need to show out. I mean he's shown look he's got the stuff. He's got the talent to be an ace but he's not quite there yet. We've seen his postseason struggles. We've seen times where he gets. Hit a little bit and then He just loses his composure. It becomes a a a bad start. And we've seen that against bad teams like the orioles where he just for one reason or the other implodes and we also have to see him pitch a full season that that is something we have yet to see from him in arrays uniform. We sorta salt last year but he hasn't thrown more than one hundred eleven innings in a regular season. So you need this guide to. At least i think one fifty at you know twenty eight to thirty two starts. You need him to be available an out there every time and know. I think he's ready for it. He's he's been in baseball long enough. He's twenty-seven going on twenty eight years old. He's one of the union reps for the team. He's he's ready for the limelight. And i think he's going to have a lot of success but it's just about putting it all together for an entire season. We saw it in a little bit. We saw glimpses of it in in two thousand nineteen where he looked like he was going to win a cy young before. It went down with a forearm strain. So it's just about being able to continue that for regular season ended in the postseason to because that's still sort of a knock on his resume there but He's got to pick everybody else up to like. I mean you look at the this rotation and your number two is ryan yarborough and ryan yarbrough. Very good pitcher. He's he's a solid pitcher but he's been used in. A variety of roles is a book guy and opener. He lost his arbitration case. He doesn't give you necessarily the fire or the cachet of of another of other number two sorters in baseball. So if if tyler glass now can carry that load through game one or the first game of a series or whatever it be i. I think that's going to be critically important. Look i don't think he's going to win. A cy young this season but you know at least maybe garnering some votes. I think would be critical in huge. He's definitely capable of that. Assuming he stays healthy. I mean he's just he's he's just a freak athletically six foot eight with his arm. Length i mean he throws a ninety nine hundred.
