"The Texans scored 9 unanswered fourth quarter points to defeat the Titans 19 to 14 at Tennessee, earning just their second win of the season, the go ahead score comes on a 6 yard touchdown past two Brandon cooks from Davis mills. I feel like really these past couple of weeks and the tail end of the season, we've been putting a lot of good efforts up and putting a lot of good stuff on tape just hadn't find a way to finish games and today that's what we did. Honestly, the second half of the NFL season, that strikes me right now as a story, because I believe you're going to see an 8 no team emerge tonight. "EPA numbers enhance when Kyle used check is on the field and Shanahan just calls a better game. If you look, Shanahan runs from 12 more when you check is available. Shanahan runs from 11 more when he's not and it's substantially less efficient. Because you check and catch passes. But also within that, the formations are heavy, which again is kind of that decoy formation. Are we running are we passing? Jimmy G's passing EPA is way better when you check is out there as well. And that ability to be multiple and versatile offensively is really the other reason the forty-niners have had success in this series. I mean, you think about the rams defensely. It's like this star studded group where we have three, four really good players. But the way Shanahan runs the offense is he disguises things and because he's versatile, you can call a game where you negate the stars and focus on the 7 or 8 pawns that are out there. That's ultimately been the ace up his sleeve. The thing here on this side of the ball though, you're going to have to keep your I and debo Samuel. Hasn't practiced yet this week, the injury appears to be more than a bump or bruise. The game is certainly vital, but the forty-niners do have a buy on deck. So keep your eyes peeled there. We also saw Trent Williams returned valiant effort, obviously. Not a 100%. So this side of the ball is a little beaten up as well. The rams do get the advantage of the rest and out of the by and have the ability to tweak a few things here. And so that's kind of the element of potential surprise. If there's not out of the buy. It just kind of proves Shanahan's dominance over McVeigh once again. No, I know it's not going to impact the overall handicap of the rams forty-niners game this weekend, but yet again, the rams find themselves linked to a couple of high profile difference makers in the trade market. Do you believe there's a little bit of substance behind the style, whether it be Brandon cooks coming over from Houston or potential edge rusher in the form of Brian burns from Carolina or Bradley Chubb from Denver as the rams look to try and generate a little pressure off the edge in area where they've been extremely deficient so far this year. Since they weren't able to keep von Miller in rams color. It's a really tough question. I would see how this plays out, but obviously the rumors of Bradley Chubb have been strewn about and if Denver loses, you mentioned that fire sale at the top and there's obviously a relationship between the two organizations and they understand a deal was easy to get done last time and so you kind of go back to some of those business partners, right? And so let's see what Bradley Chubb would provide this defense. Brian burns is just a pressure monster, even though some of the sack numbers aren't great. Personally, I don't think the rams are close enough, but I'm sure they believe they are. I'm sure they see themselves getting a little bit healthier. Right, Troy hill should return for this one, which is a nice piece for that unit defensively. And you look at the landscape of the NFC and you're like, this thing's freaking wide open. I get it. I just don't know how good they are. Brandon cooks would be a huge boost to this offense, though. And I understand he's been traded all about. But I think maybe they test the waters and see what van Jefferson brings and you certainly have the locker room that's still open for OBJ. So does it make sense to go that route and give up assets when you can for cooks when you can hopefully get OBJ back at a cut rate in a couple of weeks? Who knows? Yeah, that's the $100 million question. The rams I think to your point see the NFC landscape is being wide open, a chance to defend their conference crown. But even if they're able to go out and fortify their offense or defense in any capacity before the trade deadline, they are still a far cry. From the elite teams in the National Football League, not just in the NFC, maybe in the form of the Philadelphia Eagles, but the heavy hitters that we see in the AFC and the Buffalo Bills and of course the Kansas City Chiefs. Speaking of the bills, we get to see them fresh out of a buy in prime time. Sunday Night as an 11 and a half point favorite welcoming in a struggling Aaron Rodgers Green Bay packer squad. Total on the game 47 and a half. And the bill's pain are seeking their best 7 game start in the franchise since 1993 when they went on to lose in the Super Bowl against the Dallas Cowboys. Meanwhile, Green Bay on the other side of things off to their worst 7 game star with Aaron Rodgers as their starting quarterback. And Aaron Rodgers never been more than an 8 and a half point underdog in his career according to ESPN stats and info 234 career starts includes regular season and the playoffs are the most by any quarterback to never be a double digit underdog in the Super Bowl era. Rogers, however, is owned for straight up, including the playoffs as they touch down or more underdog. Only Tom Brady has a longer distinction and all of that. But the silver lining for Green Bay, maybe you've already hit rock bottom. Maybe Aaron Rodgers can channel some of his prime time mystique that we've seen out there. The last time the packers were a double digit underdog week 12, 2017 at the Steelers with Brett hundley starting at quarterback. We know that the bills are an absolute juggernaut. The defense has exceeded expectations. Josh Allen playing at an MVP like level, which is why he is the favorite to take home that particular hardware. Does Green Bay have any path? I'm not going to say for an outright win, but to keep this game competitive and keep us from turning off the football game before it gets to halftime. The line is probably shocking to some. It certainly was me at first blush. And then I looked at our numbers and was like, okay. Not off at all. And we actually made 7 and a half in value on Facebook here at less than 2000. No, no, no, no. We're at 10.4. I was surprised to see that. And I think it's going to shock some people, but we have the packers power rated worse than an average football team right now.

One more NFL thought, which second year quarterback has the better year this year, I think we can take Zach Wilson out because we know he's going to miss at least four weeks of time. So Trey Lance, Justin Fields, Mac Jones, Davis mills. Davis mills. That's the guy. Like, here's the thing. This is crazy with Davis mills. If you look at his yardage prop for the year. It's around 3700 yards. Now off the top of your head, you go, that's insane. How is he going to throw for those kind of yards? Who is he throwing the ball to? Well, he's throwing the ball to a very good receiver, but a guy who's also hurt all the time. You know his name, don't you? Brandon cooks? There you go. That's the guy. Now Brandon cooks yardage prop. This is even crazier. Brandon cooks yardage proper this year. I think it's right over a thousand yards. So explain to me the math of this whole thing. If Brandon cooks, you had 800 yards receiving last year in like 30, I think they only played 11 games together last year due to injuries and everything else. So if you got 800 yards in 11 games, if he plays all 17, not only is Brandon cook's gonna clear that 1000 yards, but Davis mills should easily go over his yardage prop. This is the guy to bet on. He's gonna have a scary good year. Out of all these second year quarterbacks, nobody's expecting anything of him. My only concern really is that love you Smith is the head coach. And you don't have a seasoned offensive coordinator. This is not a coach who says, okay, let's throw the ball 40 times a game. Because if they did, he could have a Blake bortles type here in Jacksonville where he threw

This time last year we were discussing will they be the first zero in 17 team in NFL history. They have moved all the way up to 29th in our rankings. That is the Houston Texans Connor. What is the deal with the Texans? The Texans are a team that is building some sort of football death star behind the scenes, but is operating as a quaint mom and pop organization in the meantime. So lovey Smith is there. Davis mills seems okay. In order to convince people that they aren't tanking, they resign Brandon cooks, and then leaked to everybody like C, we signed Brandon cooks. We're not tanking. So yeah, that's that. But they do have really cool young players. They drafted really cool players this year. And that's hard for anybody to ignore, I think. They did. And if I could throw a dash of pessimism out here about the Texans, last year, so they went four and 13 last year. That was, I think we all agree a huge over achievement, but the more I look at that team, they had so many veterans, like fringy veterans. It wasn't a youth movement. It was just a teen full of fringy veterans. It's like, okay, well, they should be a professional football team. To some extent, because, you know, it's not like you're throwing out a bunch of sink or swim type guys. That said, yeah, I love the Derek stingley pick this year. They are loading up on better young talent at this point. We'll see if Davis mills is a starting quarterback in the NFL or not. And yeah, I don't know. All things considered with what went on in the past like two or three years there. Not terrible. This is going kind of okay. They are, it's almost as if like enron had the chance to rebrand. You know, and so they're just like, yeah, we're not the Houston Texans. We're just like the Houston guys for Texas, you know?

"They basically didn't think they were enough catches to go around. I said at the time they traded the wrong receiver. I think I might have been right now. I know Michael Thomas said that one great season. But he hasn't played two years. Brandon cooks steady production thousand yard guy, so I'll take Brandon cooks back in a second. Yeah, Brandon cooks is not yielding a second round pick. Like you can get Brandon cooks out of Houston for day three pick. I don't think that he's somebody that's going to get in. What's the weight? Well, I don't know. That's a good question. If that trades out there, I think that one's also a possibility. So I think the two things that just kind of summarize what we're talking about here. Number one is getting an outside receiver. I think is a priority for the team. Number two is pointing the draft in a defense direction, I think, would be the ideal scenario. This is me talking. Ida's personally think that would be the ideal scenario for the Patriots because they have too many holes on that side of the football. And if they then also have to throw a receiver into that mix somehow, they just don't have the capital. They just don't have the picks to be able to fill all these holes. If they can go all defense in the draft, draft a corner, draft a linebacker, maybe draft another edge rusher, pass rusher, then they'll have that ability potentially this defense back together. If they have it, then also throw in there that they have to draft a receiver on top of all of that and it has to be early so that it's somebody that can actually make a difference. I just think that it gets really complicated at that point. Yeah, I'd agree. Veterans the way to go there. Yeah, so let's go back to Russell Wilson here for a second before I wrap this I think the interesting we talked about potentially buying guys from Seattle. I think you touched on it briefly Alex. I know you wrote about it. How good do you think that this really makes Denver? And is this something that the Patriots are not going to say need to be worried about? They're going to have to hit the reset button here a little bit in New Orleans so some of these guys that are getting up there in age or contractually are very, very expensive, might not make the most sense to hang on to and at this point for the saints. One of the biggest issues for the Patriots is they had a place zone and that forces their linebackers into coverage and that was a big problem. You have JC Jackson and Marshawn Lattimore opposite each other. Oh yeah, go play no zone. Right. Knockers don't have to cover anything. Go ahead. Then go ahead and get all whatever's first name is Chanel from Wisconsin. The 270 pound downhill kit. Leo right and all. You can have him running downhill all you want. If you got JC Jackson opposite Marshall added more. So if they're going to pick a piece off that roster, he's the guy to me, I guess if you want to go like pound for pound, considering he cost a ton. "It's kind of funny to think about. But that kind is what it feels like. Yeah, I would assume that this isn't necessarily a game plan where the Patriots are gonna feel like they need to blitz a ton to affect Davis mills. I think Davis mills is gonna give it up to them regardless of they put a ton of pressure on them or not. So maybe a game plan where they're similar to what they did last week against Tampa Bay, honestly, where they have the safety in the middle of the field and the deep middle and they have another player in the middle of the field, the rat defender, if you will, whether it's from the linebacker level or another safety like miles Bryant rotating into the box into that role. You put two kind of help defenders in the middle of the field so that all JC Jackson has to do is play bump and run on the outside and make sure that Brandon cooks doesn't beat him on a go ball. That's pretty much all he's got to worry about. He's got help in the middle of the field at both the intermediate and deep levels. Sharp Brandon cooks could catch a little drag rat or a three step slant or something like that underneath the defense, but then you just make the tackle. So that to me is probably going to be a similar game plan as to what it was. Last week, the Patriots really putting a lot of praise on this Tampa Bay are this Houston receiving corpse. They blow smoke up the opponent every single week. So this is something else, though. I think they said it was the best one of the best receiving groups are gonna face all year or something like that. So yeah I look great at cooks next is as much as the next guy, but it's calmed out. Yeah. So it was a weird typical ballot check pumping up the opponent type stuff. So yeah, I think this is gonna be a very big one rat type of coverage for the Patriots. JC Jackson just jam Brandon cooks and make sure you don't get beat on the go ball. And you'll have help to the inside on some of the other in breaking stuff that they run with Brandon cooks, posts, deep overs, things like that. And just make Davis mills look like Davis mills, right? That's really all it has to happen here in this game and they probably win this game. Regardless of what is offensive line. Right. If they lose it's because it's a massive breakdown upfront offensively. Anything short of that, there's no reason for them to lose this game. Yeah. "Not gonna spend a ton of time on this. Obviously, a couple of quick hits. David culley seems like he's way underwater already, which shouldn't surprise people. They are not very good defensively, Greg. Nick casario is trying to rebuild this roster on the fly. They've got the Desean Watson headache, which I think they've completely mismanaged. And so now, without Tyrod Taylor, being available, which has been unfortunately for him, the story of his career, they have Davis mills at quarterback. Last week against the bills at buffalo, their first half of offense was one of the if not the worst first half offensive displays I've seen in NFL history. Just your quick take a lot of crappy, you've seen a lot of crappy animals. I've seen a lot of crappy NFL football and I'll tell you this one takes the cake last week. You're quick like one minute breakdown of Houston if you have one. I don't have much, I am interested in a little reunion with the expatriates, many of whom. By the way, side note, I'll be interested to see we'll probably see a Bill Belichick embrace of Jack easterby during this game. First of all, Jack easterby in Seth wickersham's book, one of the curveballs I did not see coming was Jack easterby basically standing up to Robert Kraft GE wonder where he got this from. I wonder who told him this anecdote. Jack easterby, that basically, Jack easterby stood up the robber craft and said, you're not being fair to Bill Belichick. I stand with Bill. He's the greatest coach of all time. Basically something like that. There was some sort of moment. Very, very dramatic Jack east to be a moment. And i definitely think you know carson wentz is going to you know. Use him and have him as a target along with ty hilton When i think michael pittman he could be a guy that could be flex option. You know maybe even wide receiver to on your team you know. I definitely think he'd go a little bit sooner. But i don't know. I just feel like you know this. Is you know where. I put him and you know again. The mock draft is not perfect. I i don't think it is perfect by any means but you know this is where i put him i do think that carson wentz i it's going to he's going to help carson wentz out. He's definitely going to help them out. And yeah he's a guy that you know is looking to make a jump in year two so then after him. I have the wide receiver for the houston. Texans believe it or not brandin cooks now. I feel like brandin cooks. You know. I think he could do all right. I mean he's definitely probably the best fantasy option on houston right now. Outside of if to shawn watson does play you know and cooks had a nice year with houston last year you know and with or going down with the suspension you now that you know that that kind of opened the door for more targets for brandin cooks and he did have some big games was definitely a solid flex option for me last year when i picked him up in fantasy You know and and i do think that you know brand cooks. I mean. I don't know i really don't know what his contract situation is. And stuff like that. But i do believe that someone could swoop in i if houston is gonna do bad this year which i think they. Will you know someone could swoop in and get brandin cooks in charge to trade for him. And i think brandon cooks got traded to a contender. You know that definitely would be something that. I would keep in mind because i don't think houston's contending for anything this year other than maybe like the number one overall pick or a top five pick in so. I think that have cooks got traded to a contender that definitely would increase his fantasy value. And i think maybe that's something that some people got. Keep in mind that something. I really haven't talked about but yeah i mean this is probably a place where brandon cooks could yet take and i just feel like you know with what was what's going on houston if shawn watson does play. It's a different story than cokes. Maybe be a little bit higher. But i think because of the uncertainty with everything going on i mean he is in training camp which i really cannot believe i really did. Not talk to shawn watson for a very long time. Because i just you know. I didn't know what the the the story is. That i had no idea he was gonna play. I mean he's just got so much stuff going on. Jaguars travis etienne obviously was a running back for clemson and you know urban meyer one of the draft him for trevor lawrence and i think you know of course. Trevor lawrence is definitely. You know thrilled to have his running back on his team. Continue their journey together from college into the nfl You know one of the interesting things. In the off season was that urban meyer. Was you know trying amount at wide receiver. He's taking a wide receiver. Et an and you know now. You gotta wide receiving core that consists marvin dj charge and chenault who is also was going to be expert in my mock draft. So all kind of talk about both of them. You know. it really doesn't make sense as to why you know. He was being tried out at the wide receiver spot. I think it's just because they got a lotta backfield with james robinson and carlos hyde. You know i. I think that's really the only thing i would say you know. I think that's the only thing you can really think about is. Maybe just because of the loaded backfield guys talented so you wanna give them more reps. You know you want him to be on the field but they could definitely do like to running back sets and stuff like that you know it's going to be interesting You know. I feel like if an injury does happen or somebody. Is you know if urban meyer wants to ride the hot hand. Hopefully you know. Then that's a different story. But i think as of right now. It's kind of unfortunate for james robinson. Just because of the season that he had and now you've got this crowded backfield in. But i will have to see what happens but espn. Same thing with atf. Injury happens like to chart marvin jones. This guy is going to see an increase in targets and this receiving core is pretty good for. Jacksonville is very underrated receiving core. I like it a lot i think. Trevor lawrence is in a good situation. He does have a decent amount of weapons around him. Chenault is one of them now if it wasn't for dj charge and marvin jones. I think should definitely would be a little bit higher my mock draft but because those two guys are on this team i feel like you know. They have a winning franchise every single season and they spend the money to get to the playoffs and they've gotten to a Super Bowl. One of the dig deeper on what Peter King said off why Jared Goff is not the same quarterback as he was in 2018, because this is the weird part. Guy office said. I just want to be wanted, and I feel great that the Lions want me. And clearly, Jared Goff bristled at the fact the ramps didn't want him. But why? Why is there more turnovers now? Why is there fewer touchdown passes now? Why in 2018 could he go throw for throw in that Monday night Instant classic against Patrick Mahomes, the Chiefs and outdoor Mahomes and look every bit as calm print? Competent and capable as Mahomes does in greatness. And two hours two years later, Mahomes is in his second straight Super Bowl and Jared Goff is cast off to the Lions. When you look at the weapons, at least for a passing standpoint. They're pretty similar in 2018. Jared Goff Had Robert Woods is his number one target Brandon cooks is the number to target and Cooper Cup is his number three. This year two seasons later. His best targets. Cooper Cup. Robert Woods. And this year Josh Reynolds, Tyler Higbee also caught passes, but you're only taking away. Brandon cooks out of that. When you look at running the football that might be the key here, although instead of one guy like Todd Gurley in 2018 girlie was the workhorse. Todd Gurley had 1200 yards and 17 touchdowns This year. The Rams got that production just at a two different guys can makers and Darryl Henderson, who both combined For about 1250 yards. The difference was they didn't get in the end zone on the ground. Those two guys combined for only seven touchdowns apiece. And so that's where girlies production was. He was great in the red Zone. He was scoring a lot of points. But in terms of weapons and production of the ground, it was pretty similar. I don't know why. And I wonder what Sean McVeigh would say It is most honest moment because we don't know, but it feels like golf lost confidence. Maybe golf is a younger player. Was willing to throw it. Zip it take chances downfield. And work well within that offense with Sean McVeigh's play calling and now got really nervous or scared or You know, he was turned over paranoid. And maybe he had to do with the money. Maybe it had to do with the giant contract. Remember, he gets that after 2018. And then these last two seasons, that monster albatross contract is sitting around the franchise and Jared Golfs neck. There's not a lot of good answers floating around about what happened. Jared Goff, but very obviously, Sean McVeigh fell out of love with God. And so did the organization. They had just given him all of that money. My guess is there's always this truth in between where there's Sean McVeigh's truth, Jared God's truth and then the real truth, My guess is Sean McVeigh looks a Jerry Goffin says. Hey, man! You're nervous about the money. The pressure has gotten to you. You're worried about turn of the football over. You're not. You're not aggressive or confident, And we can't win a Super Bowl That way you change, man. And Jared. God probably looks like Sean McVeigh and says, Hey, you were the whiz kid. You were supposed to win a Super Bowl in year two. You didn't And now the pressure's got into you when your offense hasn't been is good, and now we're defensively and team and I don't just want to screw it up for our defense. So you're the problem and you changed. And the truth is probably somewhere in between. Memorize. This is a wild turn of events because Two off seasons ago. Ram for giving him all the cash and saying you could win Super Bowls with Jared Goff, and two years later, he's dumped on the Lions and the Rams want nothing to do with him. Yeah, I think the real key here obviously, is the reason Shawn McVeigh was brought to the Rams in the first place. And the reason that anybody is to steal a quote from you sniff Sean McVeigh's farts has gotten a head coaching job. Is because of his offensive genius. If you will, he's been proclaimed. This is offensive wizard that he is he could transform anything offensively. There have been people that have pointed to the fact that Kirk Cousins may have fallen off a cliff after Sean McVeigh. Left Washington. Now he has really fallen off a cliff. But you get the drift that he was really the brains behind, making Kirk Cousins a really good quarterback in Washington. And if Shawn McVeigh, who now has been a head coach for quite some time in head coaching terms, at least currently when you compare him to his peers here He still hasn't necessarily transition of fully head coaches, fingerprint system all over the offense. And if he is the one behind this, and this is a ram team that is so defense first now and if the offensive wizard that is, can't get the most out of Jared Golfer elevate him. To equal basically what he's getting paid what he's getting paid his top 10 quarterback money I don't know. I mean, seemingly God should have the guy coaching wise under him to get the most out of him offensively, and that still hasn't worked. And maybe there's a little bit of embarrassment for your first on McVeigh's a head coach with his background to know how documented a defensive team and when you play the Rams, you know it's all about your defense and not about their offense. And for McVeigh. There's got to be a little pride there. Where he just wants something else to work here at the quarterback position. Something changed. Something changed after that Super Bowl, and maybe it was the Super Bowl. Remember when golf was just a disaster, and they lost 13 to 3. Had golf made one more throw. But when you trade your high level picks and again That matter you every team doesn't hit on top 10 picks. In fact, Ah lot of teams. I don't know for a time. Indianapolis, Pittsburgh, New England. You know they're taking guys in the back half of the first round, and they're finding people that are coming in and being consistent. Contributors. Look not for nothing, right? But the first round pick that the Rams trade to New England for Brandon cooks and remember that Ram's traded for Brandon cooks and they signed Brandon cooks. Then he was out the door pretty soon. Like the How are they missing on the high level guys in L. A Girlie contract Gone. Cooks Contract gone, God contract gone. What are what are they doing wrong to where they essentially have toe, you know, try to buy their way out of it, And I can understand if it was a trade for a Brady or Rogers or somebody whose hand this stamped. You traded for the guy from the D Detroit Lions. Who as good as he's been playing with a first ballot Hall of Famer and Calvin Johnson. He's had other great players that he's been able to play with. They haven't been consistent around them. At times, I will give you that. What has Matt Stafford shown the ability to walk into a situation and make other people better? It's just a lot of draft capital and again, one of the doing wrong that they're giving up four or five picks to go get Goff and then three to be able to get rid of him.
