"It's probably distressed so for sick i've lost probably twenty five percent of the thickness of my hair of al-raya interactions and reactions from infusion drugs. Tillis talk about music. You are a musician. Dislike me yeah. You haven't had the energy to play so it's been more a tech side of things and music mixing music and doing your stuff for you. Tell them what she meant to play. Oh mainly percussion instruments and the drums of course playing drums since junior high school. And have my beautiful where you're located right now. I'm in a lovely living room. We're in the same house. It's just easier because no one for not separated. It's cove ed no no. I can't get rid of this braga throat but we are doing some music recording. The last couple weeks i've had to learn how to use the software to record on my own and use my bluebird mike over here and i know the basics and then i've been handing it over to you to do the mixing and mastering so. Some of my new songs are going to be on the anniversary podcast. So we're pretty excited about.

"And so we started back in the day off from the spinoff or even before we were already implementing a member of exclusives all the photos that iran but then batting evolved into incorporating farting in construction of the portfolios and so he has to scoring this carbon emissions. Now just this morning. we were discussing. Remember of other initiatives on the front concerning control cease concern governance. Nsa doing yes g. The developed world is big enough challenge because the date thanks to be cleaned up is often itself report. The date there are doesn't expense. That much scrutiny criticism but britain in china you buckle up the time. Sourcing date is hot expressing. Clean it up. But we're doing it anyway so i think it's absolutely the right thing to do. I wish more people in the industry would pick up and run with it. And as i say as an industry we can things here right you. Just think about the pressure that has been put on companies that have hit the press on the way they do business in the chew them or a business practices in and how quickly. Ceo's response as you know. Cpq has been engaged in various initiatives and. I'm really glad to hear you talk about how important it is for us. It's something that we spend a lotta time across all last class just to go back a bid on your company and i'm curious makes a great chief investment officer or a ceo in a quantitative shop. I will you what. I don't think i need very much more off is to be the best second bristled around because as i said in the beginning this you know a lot of them are so much talking to me. So what makes it. Good see you. I think you need to look further than other people. Everybody else has the privilege of the treat of being able to look ahead a day's work or week's work. I need to look at a year horizon. a five year rising so To retain that. You've got to be the person because everybody else's very convinced celebrating a good week's work if always weeks lineup in the wrong five-year direction you're trouble so it's the long term view. I also often saying that in the list of opportunities that present themselves to an organization in business the nose of the organization needs to be said that the senior and ge people are never going to say if you ask them to do something to the china vast the in general people think it's a good thing to be candle in tried to go everything. It's not a good start in socks. So i often say look. The nose of the organization should be set at the height of so. I see my job as having the very louder. Vision that the keeper of the long term plan. I also see myself as the one which takes away the pain when we have to say no because she said no so she said so. That's okay as opposed to to leave it to the organization to not be able to accomplish something when you wanted oppositional either stamp whether you you qualify or not that positioning itself. Grunts you rights. If caught us it humbly responsibly. even for example fighting's is a problem in the organization this improper with a staff member of problem with g. Even the way i asked questions of got actual implantable these things. You've gotta listen. Listen makeup mind in if you got to somebody you ask the question. The way you're gonna get the onset that you thought you were going to get to deal with the assignment with great respect bridges on spinach in right. It's not what would you say are your biggest challenges as the seal of systematic in today's world. Nowadays i do have an asset. Very clear as what keeps you. Weeknight is a cyberattack petrifying. We over here each spend so much effort in the cybersecurity. Off-farm educate everybody on site security. We have a monthly meeting of the torah is the first thursday of each talamante. Sure not going to be a case study. Because there was an attempt to adhere couple of weeks who fell for it but it was a very sophisticated thought so cyberattacks reward me then if you more like a cyber attack is an external threat if you think more organic worry about succession. I've been ceo of the phone. Since the beginning we are now you're seven. I am actively discussing succession. Mommy with my colleagues on board so that is another big charge but everyone is organic. It's not an external threat. It's organic but you're aware of it. Which is refreshing. Because i think that we'll see a shift in succession whether it's in a private markets hedge funds over the next five years where that generation is now moving into another cycle so it very interesting i was gonna ask you on starting kwan shop in twenty twenty one. So we've seen the universe of quantum managers going through consolidation. As many young talented managers are deciding to join large platform. such as citadel cubist worldwide. What would be the advice that the letter braga of twenty twenty one give to the letter braga a year two thousand in regard to an enterpreneurial pad platform approach is not to the from what i gather in. The industry is naturally maasai. I approach right. Is this multi that wants to there. Being only electric property him not shaved maria. We live in a where. The risk cremated zero sometimes. Negative dean investment problem is pops bigger than ever with an aging population most developed economy so pension funds need efficient investment..

"Your conversation with lleida and why don't we start with. How long have you known her. I have known late. F- close at twenty years. Now goes way back to two thousand. Three two thousand four when she first started bucharest. And what was the nature of the relationship back then well. She was launching a new fund blue trend under the auspices of bluegrass and we had a relationship with that company before and we were really building that complete portfolio program and the cpa strategy was something that we were paying attention to. So when you did that work then. And then. I suppose again when she launched sister monica. What are the qualities about her. That led you to say latest person. The leader in this space that we want back not somebody else later getting to know her going through interviews senior their office in montreal three attributes that really struck me brains utility artwork. That lady is very authentic. She's very creative. I thought she was bringing something special for that. Space specifically something that was going to allow to try markets when you think about the team around her in a strategy like that what are the important factors. Well first of all. It's a quantitative strategy. So you need to hire the right skill so you and me could probably not work there but for sure. It's all about the quality of the people working out technical. They are in their own field from physics to mathematics but also their pedigree their background their intellectual integrity as to how they model how they validate what they build so for us. We spent a lot of time there and clearly. The strategy is much more technical than understanding a more fundamental strategy. But there were things even back then and we have people working with me where we could say that. This shop was really a strong shop in terms of investment process. How do you figure. Ground had a test that level of technical capability between latest team and another team when we know going in that all if their technical knowledge is going to be so much higher than our says allocators. We've built over the years this playbook if you like on the how to evaluate quantitative manager so it goes a lot to their process and how date validate out a measure how they work with data because data is a big big maytham here so getting the data cleaning the data. What's that process. How are they validating miles in sample out of sample. These are all the things that we were testing. It's not only a mechanical checklist. Here you have to go into. These meetings at their office made their chief technology officer in meet their research. Groups see how they interact together and then you also have the elements of are they. Employees are partners. Are there part of that team. Are they building something together so we kind of validate all of this and at the end. There's a little genetic woah. That makes it where we decided to go with that manager. And obviously there's track record and things like that that you need to validate that strategy actually is thrust. It's always to be able to validate when they lost money when they made money. What the doing at that time. What were the market's doing at that time. What was their reaction. So there's a lot of work that goes into doing all of this so one last question. I want to ask you before off the conversation. Which is how do you think about sizing a position in a strategy like that in your portfolio if you want to manage a portfolio. That's more sensible to tail risk. Obviously you'll put less of these types of strategies that strategy as a positive gamma that strategy tribes in more volatile markets and. We've seen it in the past for many many years now so it's all about how you want to manage that. Downside volatility and as we know markets. Go up and markets are generally stable. So it's that mix where you decide to put a little more of that spice versus another one. So that you you reach to expect expected to be for us. It became very important to calibrate. Well here because we have an overly program. It's not a funded program so we use are bound sheet to invest in hedge funds. So we need to make sure that this is calibrated. Well enough so that when markets are off style or not losing too much money out of the program so this is where that strategy plays a very specific role. Great mario once.

How To Get on Podcasts as a Guest

"One of the most free questions. I get asked about podcasting is how do i get on other podcasts as guest and its frequent for good reason because people know that podcasts are powerful way to market themselves to get out there to be known. Nobody wants to be ignored. But how do you get on a podcast. You just use cold outreach. Do spam people in their inboxes. Asking to be on their podcast. What is the most effective way to regularly show up on other podcasts. Well i'm going to tell you share with you my system so you can lineup guest appearances for the rest of the year. First of all. I want to address something. That's very very important. One of the things. We all have to come to terms with no matter where you are in your entrepreneurial. Journey is understanding. Why you should be on a podcast. Not talking about the benefits here. i'm talking about. Why would a podcast host. Won't you on their show. You have to honestly answer that question for example. Take a look at some of the bigger podcasts. Out there W f by marc maron. Joe rogan the jordan. Harbinger your show. Why is elon. Musk being interviewed by. Joe rogan. Why did richard bring it on the dribble. your show. Why did president. Braga obama get on w. f. with marc maron. How did that happen. That cold email. joe rogan. No probably the other way around right so the first thing we have establish is the more value can add to an audience. The more likely it's going to be that you're going to show up on that podcast. Let me say that again. The more value you can add to an audience the more likely you will be a guest on that podcast so elon. Musk shows up on. Joe rogan because joe rogan knows. His audience wants to hear from him. He sought after the something here. There's something that he can offer. That makes it worth him trying to get him on the show. One of my favorite podcast interviews is with jamie fox on the tim. Ferriss show and tim for a shares that it took him years to get to the point where he knew jamie foxx enough to convince him to get on his podcast. He had to put a lot of work in a lot of time. A lot of sacrifice a lot of investment and. I'll talk a little bit about how he actually got jamie fox at the end and how relates to today's lesson. Why did tim ferriss go through. All that effort will because he knew the jamie foxx would be a brilliant episode who share incredible stories. He has a lot of value to add. So i want you to start thinking in that way. Yes we all are not jamie fox or president barack obama but we can add value to an audience and we could start somewhere we will have to start with the can show right. We can start with smaller podcast with audiences that are more niche that can really benefit from what we can offer but a lot of us get disappointed that. Hey i'm reaching out these podcasts. And they're not getting back to me. I can really offer a lot of value. Omar will one of the reasons why they're not getting back to us because they just never heard of you or they don't really have any kind of rough of what you can deliver so we're going to solve this problem immediately. One of the best ways to get on a podcast. If your brand new is to be noteworthy that means you have to show people that you can deliver for example if somebody wanted to get on a podcast and they just reached out by email and said hey podcast. I'm an expert at seo. I think i'd be really valuable to your audience versus somebody who says hey. I'd love for you to have me on your show an seo expert. I should talk about how. Google has become the dominant search engine and y. Here's a link to that ted talk hoover's opening the email whoever's reading the email whether it's the host or the executive system that works for the host. They have a lot more mature work with now. They have a reason to say. Yes they have a ted talk to watch and say. Wow this person's credible they really delivered Enough people in that room were willing to listen to this person. He commanded an audience. Might be worth having on the podcast so you have to really give them something to say. Yes. this is why your own content is really really important until you have a few great interviews under your belt where you can share those in your pitches then you need to shoot something else whether it's a youtube video whether it's a bestselling book up performance onstage. Give something to. The decision is easy. It's an easy s now. Our which is one of the ways you can do. This is one of the strategies. I used in the beginning where i literally would go to the pages of all the podcasts. I wanted to go on. I emailed them and Ask them to be on. And i gave him some materials to kind of look through to know that. I'm legit but a more effective way is what's called a warm introduction. Introductions are one of the best ways to get on podcast and it's the fastest way to get a. yes now. there's a few things you can do. Let's start with one of the easiest step step number one is do you know anybody. That's been on amy podcasts. As a guest. Look at all your friends on facebook on social your emails. Is there anybody in your network. That's been on a podcast guest. That knows that can vouch for you if so ask that person. Hey can you introduce me to that. Podcast you're on. A warm introduction is an easy way for them to say. Hey that gas was good and the recommending somebody. There's a good chance that somebody is going to be worth my time. This is why. I really emphasize the importance of building. Your personal network making friends in your industry because you can always help each other out vouch for each other and remember. I talked about how a lot of just don't know who you are. The more you network the more. You're well known. There are so many people. I know that are so good at networking yet. They don't have a best selling book. They are not a social media phenomenon. But if i say their name people know they are because they are great at networking. They're great at making friends in their space and people like that will never starve because they can always find opportunities because they know somebody. So get a warm introductions one of the best ways to get on podcast. Next piece of advice is your aim. Should be trying to get on five. Podcasts doesn't matter the size of the audience or how newer old the podcasts. Is you wanna get some rips. You wanna really understand the process and you want to deliver. Will you wanna do in those first. Five is be the absolute guest that podcast has ever had. I'm talking about study. This podcast study everybody. Who's in your niche or have spoken about the topics that you might talk about in the interview or in the podcast episode and cover things that haven't been covered address issues. Problems challenges that other people haven't addressed on the podcast before you want to be the most guests they've ever had you want to be the jamie foxx episode. Okay why because this is how you're gonna viral market yourself if you knock it out of the park. And you're the best episode for each of these. Podcasts podcasters listen to other podcasts. And the here episode the blake. I gotta get this person on my show and that really worked for me. I work super hard on making sure. I nail my first interviews. That i crush it that i really deliver value. It's my only goal. I'm not trying to promote products and services if the host talks about my websites or my products. That's great. that's fine. But i don't even mention the asking. That question is are any way people can reach out to you. I give out my e mail or give out my twitter handle and try to get the conversation to continue on those mediums. The point here is that you just got to really nail. This not only will help you with the viral marketing of a. But it's a great set of interviews that you can use as samples of your work when you reach out to other podcast to be a guest on. My next tip is make a list. Make a list of all the podcasts. You want to be on. And it's okay if you shoot for the stars and he may even wanna work to that list so like number. One is joe rogan number two. Is tim ferriss. Show whatever just you know naming names here. But you have your favorite podcasts or the best podcasts you want to be on and work your way down. you know. it's okay if that list is one hundred. Two hundred three hundred podcasts. And see as you know a a bucket list you know. I wanna cross these off. And i want to get through all the podcasts as much as possible. And don't forget new. Podcasts are being launched all the time. so you're gonna want to update this list but the list is great to have so you can track your progress and is literally just a spreadsheet on google sheets. You know the podcast name. The podcast host The link to the podcast. And then i actually have a column or linked to my episode. Once i'm on it when you're starting out on another quick tip. I have to say this. But i've noticed some people don't do this but when you're starting out when you're trying to get on other podcasts. Dopey a prima donna. Okay don't be too precious. A lot of people. Don't want to fill out forms. They wanna do pre interviews. They don't wanna do the initial chant. Sometimes they think well this established business successful This is beneath me and this podcast is not popular anyway. Why should i do this. Well you should do it because if you wanna get on the show. That's what needs to be done. There's no room for pride here. You want to get on the podcast. Go through the format. It's good for you helps you prepare helps you do your best when it's time to actually be on the podcast and you're on the road of the actual episode. You gotta earn your stripes. You might be successful in your own area in your own business. But you're entering a new world podcasting and you're nobody here. I don't want to speak on your behalf but if you're a beginner you are still earning your stripes. You're still proving yourself as good guest as a gray guesses a valuable guests so run through the steps in the is as needed. And sometimes you're going to have to do all these kinds of hoops and prepare and schedule months in advance before the episode of airs. The better podcasts. Actually you know. Have a pretty long lead time. Some of the bigger podcasts. I i've been on. They had four five six months of lead time. But as you know time flies so put in the work now so you can reap the benefits later.

I'm washing hands and keeping things tight and organized in the kitchen. You know thinking about what storage your shopping in I tried to buy all my vegetables. Interview With John Dunne

"Articles and I just thought some interesting ideas in pick up from last conversation. And these ideas around you know ignorance concepts reality. They in the. End and how how conceptual -ality relates to different types of. Styles. And is sort of. Stuff you're talking about and also about how the structures that underlie you know perception conceptual, -ality and how they play a role in determining. What Meditation might be a affected? So I thought we'd go we talk about that stuff. but I thought maybe we start some. Start with the basics I started the one to one level and I thought I'd ask you talk a little bit about ignorance at the cognitive level out something might take something like desire like Braga, for example, and sort of if you talk about why how ragas becomes problematic what's relationship to suffering cognitive era and in wine meditation might help and I'm thinking about you spoke about how meditation on United Bodies of bodies as courses that type of meditation we talk about this level of arcus. So maybe stop there. Sure. So the this idea basically in a sense you could say, bad. Things that's really interesting about Buddhist approaches to the problem of suffering and also the mind, and we've got our our next volume coming out on the minds and one of the things. That's one of the things that's really kind of text lines on our. This is the idea that you know. You could say in a certain way there are some aspects of our western tradition dating back going back to Greek philosophy where in in a certain way the problem is what we Mike Fault emotion nor the passions, right But Buddha's didn't have a separate category for emotion. May Not, how they thought about it wasn't like emotion. What's kind of cloudy reason and of course me no. That doesn't make a lot of sense. Antonio DAMASIO famously. Cards error is the one maybe his. You know explicatives the most clearly, but actually we need to have emotion in order to think periods. So it's not like emotion the problem. So attachment in a certain way is not in and of itself a problem there were certain traditions India that thought that attachment was the problem, but it's not because of its emotional of the distortion that is assumed that come with it too. If we kind of go back to the time of the Buddha no, this is the upon a shot traditions and. One of the things that the of trying to figure out his in a sense like why does the vedic sacrifice works in? How does it manipulate the universe so that we can and we do it sacrifice we achieve some kind of a goal and they're starting to inquire into in a sense kind of what's connecting everything in the universe, and this then leads to speculation about what they call which is a neuter neutral sort of like almost like a web is minute for the use underlies everything. But it's also then connects to a sense of who we are really what our true nature is in. The basic idea is that the problem with Raga, with attachment or pre or thirst craving and More in the Buddhist world is that we're trying to make something happy that doesn't exist. Right. So I if I if I think there's you know when I teach this in my mind courses here at the university, I'd like to use this idea the you know the blue monster in my closet. In Some people I'm sure have heard this from me before like a little blue monster living in your closet and. You know you come over to visit me in there I am in my room like staring at the closet and like I can't make him. Happy. He won't eat anything. You know you see all these doggie bags on the restaurant is. Taken too much something but whatever it is so. You know I'm like confused about why I can make the Blue Monster. Happy. In the reason I can't make him happy. She doesn't exist. So there's a kind of. So the idea of did both desire aversion the to kind of very basic emotions if we want to call him emotions to basic effective frames that are the framework of our of a moment of awareness are both about getting avoiding stuff, right? That's basically. They're they're the they're the framework for a a behavior which is getting avoiding again. Again, avoiding what what we want in what we don't want because it's going to make me happy. But the idea here is which the Buddhist shed across the board with all of the philosophers is the idea that there isn't. You know there's no blue monster in there there isn't this little die that is the real me deep inside and I just can't find the right ice cream or the white, the right sports car or the. Right in a girlfriend boyfriend or whatever it is to make me happy. I could if

"In this because for so many people and that's why I sat questioning what happened between the email to get playing because that's the porn bit. Without that kind of according hugh may say only was total. or or just you know becoming a friend which wishes is this. Already. Has So many relationships right and hangs out Bill Clinton and things like that as that. That's the actually the art that will get you to be able to then get to the next stage where you can sell a company for corbillion and things like that. Without that you can't even get there. So we with that fine balance was there anything else said persistence and kind of do? That was there anything else that you can give us tips as well because there's so many nuggets here already in this podcast even for myself which are so important reminders while were maybe another thing that you can kind of recommend to those people's well who wanting to kind of build right answer. There are mentors in their people who are like rock stars to them. I also think patients. Waiting for that moment to strike or to to make that ask again I not only wait nine years. Brian Stelter on Fox News

"Brian stelter joins us. Now he is the anchor of CNN's reliable sources, the host of its podcast and the author of a New New York Times bestselling Book Hoax Donald, Trump Fox News, and dangerous distortion of truth Brian. Thanks for being here. Thank you so much. So you used to be my colleague here at the New York Times way back I don't know when exactly did you leave The Times? twenty thirteen. Well. So the moment I remember was in twenty eleven when this early documentary about the Times came out called page one and there was a line in that documentary in which the leat David car says, I still can't get over the feeling that Brian stelter was a robot assembled to destroy me. I, haven't forgot that line. Because I wonder if you're secretly three people you host. A Show on CNN you write a daily newsletter you host a weekly podcast you have two small children, and somehow you wrote a book on this extremely fast moving subject. That is Donald Trump. How did you handle that the two small children is the fun part they keep me saying you know David used to say I still miss him so much used. To say, what do you think the story is that I should tell us to say to sources you know if you were writing the story what would you right and that is what I was doing with folks at Fox News and these themes kept coming up especially last year, which compelled me to go and try to get a book deal I think it. was last that I wanted to do this and more that I felt like someone had too i. hope that doesn't sound too cocky but it's true. There's some things in life. You just feel like the gotTa go tell this story and I think the only untold story of the trump era that's left maybe is the story of his boxers addiction so I did. Carve out time in between my other jobs and and frankly wants the pandemic send us all home. Put us on lockdown just grateful that my wife was able to help with the kids when I was having to finish the final chapters of this book. So what is that story the relationship between Donald Trump and Fox News obviously, it's the full subject of your book. People who are even casual viewers are news consumers are aware that there's a close relationship there yes. I think we all are aware that the president gets fed information and misinformation from Fox but I think it's even more extreme and even more dangerous than people realize it happens more often and the connections or even cozier than than folks realize I oftentimes in coverage. Of the White House reporters leave out what I think is the key piece, the key ingredient, which is he got that idea from Fox. He gained that idea from foxy gained that conspiracy theory from Fox and with this pandemic this year staffers at Fox told me they felt like the coverage was hazardous to our viewers. The coverage was dangerous. The coverage was unforgivable. "Back, everybody bill handle here, and this is handle on the law Marginal legal advice. Hey, then welcome to handle on the law. So I have a little situation has been going on for about a year Now. I hired a lady who was the lawyer and then somehow lost her light them but then was supposed to get it back. Within this period, I hired her to do some people work and think Braga family long. She has been very slow, very lax today to go on this obviously very important to me being a family law wondering, you know, she she was able to take the test begins failed that she's not an actual lawyer still wondering how I go about getting my money back from her. That's impossible. I don't have a legal contract in a couple of things. That I want to tell you. First of all, she can no longer do any work. The second she resigns from the bar or is suspended. She's done at that moment. She is no longer a lawyer and cannot practice law. So if he's halfway through document or in the middle of a sentence, she has to stop. Alright, That's for starters. Second of all. How do you get your money back? How much did you pay her? $1000. I'm only I'm going to argue for 5000 of it because you didn't have another guy help me with the case. In the beginning. He helped me He's done. We're moving on a second part of it. I've paid 5000 more after the three. Look at $5000 probably okay, and you don't have no paperwork. So there's another violation that there's no retainer agreement, which also is part of the contract between you and her warrior cannot just to work without a retainer. I mean, that's the general rule. And especially when you're talking about specifics, how much you pay? How much you don't pay? I go for the full amount and let her argue the rest. OK for the full amount. I would take a small claims court also call the bar and complain to the bar. Get a get a complaint form because what'll end up happening. Is that that will screw her over to get reinstated. You don't know what do you know why she was suspended her reasoning Wass that she had previously in another form of law and then moved to the marital died. She was using payment everything payment from a client and somehow you would pay her from that account as well as I do in the money. Yeah. No. Yeah, None of that makes and switching by switching eyes. Switching specialties does not stop you from practicing law s O. That's a crop right there now is a star. Knowing the rule of law matter doesn't matter. That is not enough, Teo. That's not enough to lose a license sort of resigned, Not even close. All right, so that's one issue that makes absolutely no sense that she's saying the other one is using money that she took out of an account. Well, here we go back to the work. She did. I'm assuming the money was put in a trust account when you when you pay up when you put a retainer unless it's a monthly retainer, you're paying a lawyer for which nobody does. Unless you're a corporation, and you have someone that you just I have a retainer agreement, you know, 2500 month for $5000 a month or whatever it is, but nobody else if it's private affair, if it's ah, private job for you, for example, family law job. What she has to do is take whatever amount of money you pay in advance and put it into a trust account. And then she takes the money out of the trust account to pay herself, But she has to build the trust account. Or bill you in person. Which of the bill, so there's this thing stinks from beginning to end? Can Ah or Ben and you go to the Bar complaint and small claims Court. Yeah, it's a lawyer. You want good God. Hey, Gordon, you're up Welcome to handle on the law. I know this really happen to me, and I decided question can employer fire an employee for farting at the job that you know that actually, as ridiculous as that sounds, that actually is a good question, and there are cases on point seriously? And what makes it even more fun is it actually happened to you? I was going to say, Is this the hypothetical Because people go. Oh, what do you know? There's a hypothetical constitutionally allowed. Yeah. Let me ants give you a quick answer to that. And the and I'm assuming you're in California. Doesn't matter, Erin virtually any state because most states are at will states. I think there were Massachusetts. Yeah, Thean. Massachusetts is not in out Will state or it is an at will state. I think. And the answer is yes. And I'll tell you why. Because an employer can fire an employee for almost any reason whatsoever. Any reason even for no reason. And the argument that the employer would have is you are so disruptive on make it so uncomfortable for people you're gone. We don't like Yeah, Same thing with the management said working. That's exactly it. That's exactly true. Let's say you had horrible B o. They can fire you for that. No, it's true. So luckily, I had a I'm in the union and I had to get my union steward president and and I was wondering if I don't have my union steward president. I wasn't in a union job. Even you just said yes. Yeah, absolutely. You got it right on. Yeah, Management said it exactly correctly and the and the good here is And that was the other thing. Are you Are you protected in anyway? And so you have. Let's say you have a union contract in which the union could come in and contest. Pursuant to a collective bargaining agreement. Then the union comes in, and you didn't meet the criteria for getting fired sometimes only for cause. Whatever the collective bargaining agreement says, Yeah, you're screwed. And the reinstatement would have been easy. Based on the union contract, and for example, here in California, also an at will state. He even goes worse than that, if you argue discrimination. And discrimination is part of the reason you got fired If there was another reason on top of the discrimination you're Ah, you're done. The employer has the right to go ahead and fire you. And you know, for example, I'll give you my particular situation. I've been known to have a gastro intestinal if Castro intention, intestinal issue or two around here. And so what protects me. Well, that protects me from you. But what protects me my contract? My contract's matter of fact, I've had such issues in the past both president and in the past that's specifically says in my contract that I am protected. I cannot be fired for passing gas either on or off the air. And as people start reeling when they enter the studio, and I can't believe it. They're crawling out of here. All I do is I show my contract. I am exempt if I were not exempt. I would be fired. Or could be fired..

Screw It, We're Giving Out 2021 Oscars Right Now

"I'M SEAN FANTASY ANIMATED AVANCE. And this is the big picture conversation show about the best movies of the year so far which might just be the year in full hopefully not but normally at this time of year we'd handout out best of the year at the quarter. Turn Awards Amanda So. Let's just give out some awards in case we don't get a chance to do so down the road. How do you feel about the fact that we've only gotten three months of movies? And maybe that's all we're going to get a really dark way of thinking. I'm not really ready to do that. This early in the week. I think this is more an opportunity to appreciate some of the great movies that we have gotten and that maybe we wouldn't have spent as much time talking about as we are going to. And this podcast where you know making lemonade out of lemons etc. Can we go with that? I'm shocked by your optimism. Bill I appreciate it well time. I don't know all we're going to do is just make making podcast and keep watching movies. It's funny. I'm watching so many movies. Maybe more movies than I have ever seen in my life. I looked at letterbox over the weekend and I have watched one hundred and fifty movies in the year twenty twenty. I haven't watched one hundred fifty two thousand twenty releases but I've watched a lot an unusually high number and yet when I started putting together this list that you and I collaborated on for the best movies of the year and we're going to hand out the six key awards at the Oscars. Through the first three months. I found a lot of repetition and there was really only about twelve movies that I think I liked which is not great. How did you feel about the sleep that we had in front of US positive? In the fact that there are a lot of movies that I really love on this list and a lot of movies that again I think would get Kinda lost in their mind. Dump ury shuffle. And we wouldn't really get to talk about them at the end of the year. I it is true. I have been watching more movies. There's just like a lot of bad movies you know and I do feel like watching at home. I just become aware even more quickly. I'm just like Oh this isn't working for me and there is something that is transporting about the theater experience. Or you're just GONNA go along with the ride. You're you're willing to to buy in so but that's always been true there. We always talk about a lot of movies. That have interesting parts where I really liked this or didn't quite get there so I don't know I'm a glass half full person today. I don't know what that's about. I think it's because we're going to talk about AAA fire like for an hour and just say ct thanks to everyone who washed this weekend and let me know on twitter so whatever whatever we have to do whatever we have to do. But I am looking forward to that aspect of this guests. Yeah you hit on something that I've been thinking about as well. Which is that. I'm just more likely to tap out on something that I know isn't working for me now sitting at home and it's it's a I guess a bit ironic given that all we have is time. We have so much time to power through the bad movies. But if I'm like forty seven minutes into something that I know I'm not responding to it all I'll just turn it off. I'll just turn it off and I I never walk movies. You joked last week that I walked out of last Christmas. That's one of the only movies I've walked out of in the last ten years and I don't like to tap out on something even in a streaming environment but there's also something Pity lists about the movie watching experience right now where it's sort of like you know what life is in a very odd and discomfiting and weird place right now and so because of that. I can't bother with bullshit you know. There's there's there are a lot of masterpieces at our fingertips if we want them. So the idea of powering through another mediocre Netflix. Movie just doesn't seem like a good use of time. I do think that most of the things that we're going to talk about here are a great use of time now. Portrait of a lady on fire obviously will be a part of these nominations. I think a couple of these. Nominations are goofy. And we're trying to have fun with them. But for the most part we played it pretty straight. Would you agree yes? There are a couple. We had to fill out some categories. And that's okay at once again. Well this is actually not totally true. There are some categories where they've where we're featuring women very prominently. Which is really exciting. No spoilers but you know once again. It's not totally so far. Ben A robust year for movies about women. And I think we're also GONNA talk a little bit about what's to come in the rest of twenty twenty or what we think might come in two thousand Twenty Gonna. Tell you Sean. They're still not making a lot of movies about women. I don't know whether you notice that. So sometimes we were. Just some of these are trying to get to five. How about that in a festive way? It's funny you say that because I feel like they're not making a lot of mainstream movies about one but they are making a lot of independent films woman and I feel like a lot of the films that we chose here were of the more quote unquote independent variety. And that's been the best stuff and part of that is because of the thing that you pointed out this time of year. This first three months is usually not a banner period for great film releases. Every once in a while you get a get out in your life and that gets to dominate the movie world for those first three months but this year there have only been a couple of genuine hits and those hits have mostly been led by women which has been Nice. We'll talk about at least one of them here in this episode. But I wouldn't describe it as a good movie year in general let alone one for an episode like this. Nevertheless there is. There's some stuff I'm happy where it again a chance to go through here. I agree okay. Should we get into the categories? Let's do it so we're going to start with best supporting actress again. Six categories here. You Know I. I wouldn't say this has been a scientific vote. This was literally. Just what could I think of? And what could Amanda think of? We did a little bit of negotiating. A little bit of bartering here but it was pretty much just like I think these things were good. Hey We're an academy UNTO OURSELVES. Yes it was like oh. I remembered this and think that I could talk about it for a few minutes again. This is one of the categories where we had three pretty obvious ones and then we had to wear nominations and fake awards giving or an art just like let's making an art were here to hold your attention We're here to present around picture of the movie going experience. How about that? I think that's decent so I'm going to read our five nominees and we can. We can talk about them in loose terms and then we're GONNA have to make a decision on a winner live in time and we actually effectively communicate and agree on something like this in this format. Well there's only one answer that I'm going to accept in this category. I will actually throw my ear bites across the room and quit this podcast so sure. We can agree with those conditions okay. I'm going to read the nominees under those circumstances. Sonia Braga for Rile Kate del Castillo for bad boys for life. L. Fanning for all the Bright Adele HAENEL for portrait of a lady on fire and an inspired choice Elisa Schlesinger for Spencer confidential. Obviously the winner here is allies slesinger for her work with the Boston accent and Spencer financial. No I don't. This is one of the few categories that we probably need to do much debating on. I think that this you you came up with all of the fun ideas in this category. You came up with Kato Castio. Who gave just an absolutely incredible performance as a witch in bad boys for life? Love everything she did there. ELISA SLESINGER in an otherwise fairly bad spencer confidential movie provided. I thought pretty good comic relief as the the Bad Boston. Girlfriend of the Titular Spencer but of course Who's the winner? Here amid the winner is del for portrait of a lady on fire. I have spoken at great length about what adulthood means to me but in this performance. And you know. She's obviously been a movie star in a very accomplished actor in in France and in front of my for a very long time. So I'm a little Li to this party but I also just found this performance to be a revelation and an interesting thing about this movie which I hope we can talk more about. Is that you know. This movie is interested in the the the female gaze but also just how we look at people and how a work of captures a person and whether that person can be captured entirely in a painting of film and what we remember about someone but it is also just about the fact that some people just really capture your eye and I literally couldn't look away from this person.

Ill-Fitting Intimates? After 2 Years of Research, CUUP Definitely Has Your Size.

"Set out to start cop with one thing that I think is really a special about the team is everyone. We've got this team of cross functional experts and everybody really came in with a kind of a neat curiosity around whatever it was That kind of lead them to the brand essentially cup. We wanted to set out because we couldn't find a Bra that women didn't have to compromise with meaning. You can find a Bra. Aw that maybe fits you. Although that's pretty limited on we'll go into that or you can find a Bra that might support you but it chances are it doesn't look good good and essentially you have to compromise between one of those things so we set out. How can we create a product that is you never have to? Compromise is between fit function and style but then also with looking at the current Zeitgeist of where we are from a brand perspective Tiv- and UNHU women want to identify as and how we want to identify in terms of our sensuality. And what we're looking for from an intimate brand so we just saw a really big opportunity from a product perspective from a building a community perspective and then like a brand position perspective as well. What's what's behind the that compromise that's existed for? I'm guessing a pretty long time. Wh Why is there a compromise in most into these products. This is a very interesting space in category. That has a lot of issues. I think some of our quite apparent to consumers and some are not. I think I think a lot of the brand positioning of some of the large market place. Incumbents is very apparent to customers and the consumers in terms of being out of sync with the current guys. I think there's some other issues that are not such as how bras designed and manufactured factored that have led to some real structural issues that will translate into a pretty underwhelming customer experience. And so for for us. It was trying to fix the thesis of what we wanted to do on. Paper sounds quite easy right. Great looking product. That works is supportive. Would've with a brand story. Well told executed well. Direct to consumer to executed is really hard and a lot of those issues. Do Emanate from the supply. Chain in how bras are designed and built. These are very complex to make there. Are there's multiple parts in ABROA- and you're solving for fit. Where are you really trying to solve for perfection right in terms of if you go to white t shirt it can be fit forgiving? You can have perfectly mold to your body. Where a bra you dealing with an infinite amount of body shapes and sizes and to really have a good customer experience and he's a fit really well? It'll look good and that's really hard to do. They're very technical technical. And so that was sort of the interesting thing to try to figure out how to unlock and it's very challenging to do so. We have forty sizes and we're kind of scratching the surface and I think that says everything versus shoes right just in terms of the dozens of the multitude of different body shapes and sizes is if you want a service. The market appropriately. You need to have a real breadth in sizes and that's hard and I think you see that in a lot of brands today Eh. especially new Lebron's but a lot of also the old incumbent brands have a real narrowness in sizing because it's hard to do and that leads to unfortunately Louis again a pretty underwhelming experience for customers when you can't find a Bra that looks good in your size. So it's Kintu shoes in terms of you need lots of sizes you just need infinitely more and on the there's also one of the things we saw to kind of unpack like style. Aesthetic in shaping trend as well and support is like. We're we're changing in terms of how we want our shape to be position changing in terms of close where there's a big kind of trend. That's maybe moving a little bit like norm core in some kind of industries and fashion but but also like in Bras like we're as women embracing our natural shape and feeling really great about that and that's kind of the uptick you've seen in the brawl at trend and it's something that the structural thing is abroad let over what's abrupt. Uh sorry so a Bra let is essentially a bra of a piece of fabric. That's a lot more technical than the traditional Braga Armitt Traditionally without under wire and it set to kind of minimize and really started a trend that was allowing to be shown underclothes and be kind of like an accessory three to your outfit versus something. That's just supportive and kind of hidden which was traditionally the Bra prior to that. So essentially. We're seeing this trend umbrella and women to embrace their natural shape and not be squeezed or pushed up and an essentially that. The BRA doesn't support over decoupled larger. Just functionally he doesn't work for women in those who who have bigger breasts so essentially Being able to create something that fits on that trend and allows to kind of embrace that natural shape actually supports work with something that we really cared about as

I said, okay, now, I'm back in the mix on top of the cage, as I jumped on top of the case, his broader Brinton across and jumped up on also to climb in and help him. Join the fight I seen them there. It was like a Christmas present he was. Smack talk, and we started fighting on top of the cage broken up. We ended up in indicates, and he was trying to break, pasta security, and I was just going to watch and everything. I am very self defense mind that I have been true growing. I know where my engines is a my exits out. I know I'm very aware of my surroundings. Most of that made sense with the exception of Habib did jump like an eagle. He tried to land on Dylan Dana's, but after that he was held back. It's not like he ran away. Look, the toughest guy in the arena was Gregor. So he wasn't running away from anybody. All right. And then he's right though, convert dead smack I think it was by took an off or something like that. Daniel Cormie told us that he was getting teased at the aka Jimmy did have a black guy, so he got his Lixin, even though he got jumped and look Conor McGregor deserves big fights the matter, what he just doesn't deserve. The rematch we don't have time to play this last clip, but we'll do a little bit more of that tomorrow. So that's courtesy of Tony Robbins is show that we're kind of McGregor was a guest. We gotta get on outta here. Shot again to goes for lining up. Jim Ross in-studio in a ton of fun. Don't forget AWS this weekend. It's pay view. I really just one more point for Uber and lift and that is like when you're in a taxicab, and you're in a city, you don't know I've had moments where the tax have drivers taking me on a longer route. They have one aspect. I loved from Uber that you know, what you want to take a longer route or an alternate route. Then cool. Here's what you're going to get paid awesome. Thanks. I got some great tax. We could probably talk about the snow flower golf carts would be a great idea for the democratic national convention. I would actually be a really good idea. All right business opportunity for somebody. Here's here's here's a common worry from six. I will use when I'm in a group, but I'm a female mid fifties. Just a bit worried to go alone. And of course, there's been some stories about some issues, but that's not unique to these ride sharing companies that happens with taxi company. Yeah. That's hard for me to I can sympathize with that. But that, but yeah, I could see how that would that would deter someone make someone might wanna use one great conversation. I knew it would be talking about this Martin more studio we're gonna we're gonna make way for Jeff Wagner. But not before we get to our show poll, which is teasing a topic for tomorrow show. "Braga the mother. Mcdonald's. Rabies-like? Mother. The food that. Yes. Yes. You have to see this video. Leaving now. Mother. Over there. I love it too. And you explain the video to people we have seen it. So there's a dead raccoon on the table McDonald's. Who like Brian the bed board? I've said it yesterday morning. He said, can you tell it's dad like is it obvious that? The bloody mess of death. Yes. They're the table. And and one of the things that is left unanswered is how it died in the first place. I was having this discussion with somebody yesterday. 'cause they just assume that it you got run over right? But as I pointed out if it got run over on a street in San Francisco covered in pope, it's not covered in poop, which means there's a back story here. Like was it tamed by the homeless, dude and another crazed homeless guy beat it to death with a Bendel? We don't know. So look we can't give you the Genesis of the relationship with the with the dead raccoon and the crazy homeless guy, but we can watch it play out in real time..

I mean, the just goes on and on and on and on. You can totally see this is something that President Trump would say about Braga bomb orces opponents into the Democrats V think they are they're headed in Donald Trump's direction in that regard and the Democrats leadership. They don't like that the reason they don't like it is because they know that there's going to be oxygen sucked out of the room.
