It's Hot Out West: Interview with Seattle Storm's Jordin Canada

"What's going on WB Fans Meg mcpeek I am so happy to be joined by our guest Jordan Canada. She is one of the up and coming superstars in the WMBA. She obviously plays for the Seattle storm coming off a win and you know without introducing her I've got to talk about some of the accolades because you can't mention Jordan Canada and not talk about defense in this league. Here's a two, thousand, nine, hundred, wnba. All defensive first team one, she's a WNBA champion with the Seattle Storm Two thousand eighteen sweeping the Washington mystics open. Guess what she was drafted number five overall by Seattle and I think my favorite fun fact about Jordan is the fact that you are the first. Woman. First Woman in PAC twelve conference history to score eighteen hundred points. Record seven hundred assists in you joined one of the best to ever do it in Gary Payton. In I. I. think that is probably the coolest thing as well. I don't know about you. I'm so excited to have you on the show first off. Happy Belated Twenty Fifth Birthday. How was it? In the bubble. Thank. You obviously, it was quite different. I didn't really get to do much. So I had practice and then I came back and I kinda just chilled That's pretty much I can do is I've been inside the bubble but I've. Sydney gifts my parents sent me a little birthday cake and some edible arrangements. So I got to celebrate just That's amazing. I'm a big fan of the edible arrangements myself. So I am super jealous about that and you mention you know being limited on what you can do in the bubble how is life going in the bubble and? To that point what has been your favorite thing to do not hoops related. The honest we come and don't have much here. We have a pool at the legacy hotel, which is right right up. The street you can save because we're all in villa. So we have a pool that we can go to I. Know they have like early morning golf lessons. and that's pretty much it. That's all we have So for the most part I mean, if you're with your teammates hanger with team You. Aims walking by because we're all in the same areas. Say hello to each other and speak to you know speech our friends and that's pretty much a practice and you come back to your villa. You'd relax and chill we go to games I'm. Really all that we have are you try to make the most of it I? Mean I'm very simple. So it doesn't bother me as much I'm such an introvert. I'm a homebody. So mostly in my room, some of most time just watching TV and stuff. So it's been fine in the beginning of a little bit rough I know something. Terrible living conditions would it where they were saying and stuff but I never had a problem with it but it's been much better You know we've only been here a little over a month. So it's getting better and I think we're just getting used to the conditions of the environment. I'm so happy I actually have something in common with Jordan Canada I am very introverted as well and homebody. So it's good to know if I was in the bubble I would be able to survive with like you said the Gulf I'd be able to hit up. So that'd be pretty cool and it's always fun to relax outside at the pool when you have an off day. So I, know when things being in the bubble and the season being much different than what you're accustomed to. Of course, the news before heading down to a Bradenton geared kloppenburg would be filling in again for coached in Hughes just because of the health concerns with his previous health and cove nineteen how has the team been in contact with coach hugues while being in the bubble? How have you all and coach Kloppenburg still managed to integrate coach us into the day to day of the season. I mean, well, we kind of had a little bit of of that last year when our coaches out when need. Your cancer in remission stuff so. We kinda had. A few games in the season without him and we kinda had to, you know do without him and adjust, but he's always been very active and engaged with us. He I know he talked to the coaching staff allow he does takes me call me from time to time just to talk and catch up I. Don't know about the other players but yet he's just been very engaging in still keeping contact i. know the coaches do a good job of You know talk to him and him incorporating things that he sees while he's. Just, something that he wants us to do Argos very that in. So having a coach Klopp no, be the interim goes like he's had experienced last year being you know in position than he's done a great job and you know we also have like sue bird who's technically light a coach he knows that they're helping. US as well. So we have a lot of help but I know that you know we we really do Miss Dan and I know he's cheering us on from home and you know work continuing to pray for him after thought. So it's it's been a good experience at amazing and it's as if you have done this media before because we me Perfectly with mentioning sue bird and for fans that may not be aware two, thousand nineteen with sue being out with her injury. You were basically thrust in your second season into the starting role and leading this team from the point guard position and being a vocal leader at such a young age in your career. Can you tell us just how that adjustment was? Last season and dealing with that, and even if you know as you mentioned is basically an extra coach with the team on the floor now that you've got her back in the lineup, how how was that transition for you and what advice did she give you throughout last season? It was it was It was tough. I would say there was a lot of ups and downs during that season. It's very hard coming from and you're you know one of the star players on the team you're playing a lot of minutes and you come into a team that's fully stagnant at the see. Find Yourself and my rookie year I had a hard time finding my role I was very up and down I, kind of lost a little bit of my confidence. So it was it was a hard adjustment and then going overseas having to be thrust back into a starting position than have to you know get that leadership back in that confidence bag. So I think that really helped a lot going into two thousand, nineteen season I mean obviously, I didn't expect to be out but because. I was prepared and I gained a little bit my confidence back. I was able to just we know set Ryan in. Obviously there have been subscription ups and downs during that season and trying to learn as I go but sue was a big help. I mean the the best advice that she gave me was don't worry about trying to fill my shoes in in trying to be like me just play your game I know once I came into the league, everyone was talking about Oh. Jordan and ensue in is Jordan going to be able to about up to sue in an expectations and so she told me not to worry about that lying just go out inches player game two point guards, two different types of styles. But what I bring to the table is very important to the team, and so I keep that in mind last year and just trying to play my game and not. The. You know the outside noise and just Do What my team needed to do and I kinda, you know gained a lot of confidence in that and incoming in this season and having Birdie back. I mean like I? Say We're two different point guards in two different styles and if you've watched this play the season, you can kinda tell the difference of when I committed in when she's in. So it's just great to see that you know we're able to play together and you know still Kinda or me keep up the pace with the team when I'm coming in and not have a a low or did. when sue comes out so it's just been awesome experience so far she's been a tremendous help and in my growth all around. How important was that advice that she gave you of reminding you don't try to be me be yourself like how how integral was that inner growth especially, you mentioned now having her back. was very helpful I mean coming into it team like I said I was fully back in playing behind one of the. Honestly. The best point guards ever played the game I mean, that's kind of like nerve wracking and still you have your own expectations like I don't want to screw I don't. WanNa. Come in to a team as police tag playing behind the best point guard ever and you know fail I. Mean there's some of the things I not to think about my rookie year in having her tell me that especially a veteran who's been as game for so long you know she didn't have to tell me that she didn't have to step aside and say, Hey, like don't worry player game don't worry about outside noise expectations just just play your game in big about the team and you which you need to do to to get us to where we are and so to have that advice as such. Early stage in my career was is extremely helpful and it has helped me at times. I think about those times she says that it just calmed down because I know there's been times in the season last year this year where I get super rattle and try to do too much in that think about. That, like calmed down, relaxing, get back to who I am as a player. So to have that to have that advice as A. Data Mark Career is a blessing in Zomba's very thing for her.

Dream co-owner critical of WNBA's BLM initiative

"Lafler. From Georgia? Yes, she's a senator. Also the CO owner of the Atlanta Dream wnba franchise has written. WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert to express her opposition to the black lives. Matter Movement and ask the League to put an American flag on every Jersey when the League resumes play later this month. Waffler was responding to the WNBA approving having black lives matter prominently on the cohorts at IMG Academy in Bradenton that's in Florida where they're going to have their bubble and their season WNBA, its union agreed to honor women who have died in connection with police action or alleged racial violence waffler rights. Adamantly opposed. The black lives matter political movement, which has advocated for the defunding of police called for the removal of Jesus from churches and the disruption of the nuclear family structure, harbored antisemitic views and promoted violence and destruction across the country. I believe it is totally misaligned with the values and goals of the WNBA in the Atlanta Dream, where we support tolerance and in collusion, so the the the. The if you call Vegas right now. And Shad. How much longer will she be allowed to be owner? She's owner. Yes, CO owner of the. Atlanta Dream do say seventy two hours. Would you say ninety six hours? Would you say two weeks? How long is it going to be well? For All I know I haven't hit refresh. It may have already had it. You may be out WNBA players. Association tweeted out. they spelled the words. With an exclamation point, and then out Oh ut with an exclamation point, so her message is not going over well and like we say we about the. Was it the soccer player yesterday? It's everybody can have their opinions. Well. Yes, and no I would say bit, but my point is. The When you have a league. I. Don't know what the demographics are, but certainly on a team where there's going to be black players absolutely. That's a tough sell. Yes. I mean that's just. That's a tough sell. Hundred percent as the owner in that situation is correct so good luck to you. Go ahead and have that opinion, but don't expect. Don't expect your players to go. You know what you're right. You got to know your audience. Yes, that's that would be my advice. I guess

Sue Bird on the WNBA's Plan for the 2020 Season

"I Su. High has gone. It's good, so sued the players voted. The WNBA is officially kicking off the two thousand twenty season in late July at IMG Academy in Bradenton Florida. How are you feeling about all this about basketball? Being played in two thousand twenty, you know I'm not gonNA lie. It's kind of mixed emotions. You know I think when it comes to just simply playing basketball lesson. That's an easy answer. There's something about it that will give us. A sense of purpose we love to play. It'll be able to do great things for the WB and this bubble, but then obviously with what's going on whether it's you know health and safety pandemic wise whether it's social justice wise just a lot to kind of process through. I do plan on going so that's not. That's not really what I'm trying to announce anything like that, but it's still like as the date approaches. You know it's still a lot going on I, think everybody said. Your VP of your union. What were some of the Union's biggest concerns? Guys came to an agreement on this. I mean first and foremost is definitely the health part of it all you know the safety part of it all and just kind of going through. You know what the protocol is GonNa. Be An he the frustrating part and it's nobody's fault. Is that because cove nineteen is obviously new? There's not tons information on it because we're trying to get this season going in. At the time it felt like in a you know three or four week period. We're trying to make all these decisions. A lot of doctors just didn't have concrete answers, so the frustrating part was wanting to hear just like exact answers, and really not getting them just being able to be told what kind of they hope things to be in what they plan for so again. It just brings a little bit anxiety, but I think now that we. We are getting closer. That is one thing that that got handled after that it was the money I'm not gonNA lie. You know when you pull to the table for negotiations. You never know what's going to happen, but luckily at the end of the day it took us a second to get there, but at the end of the day we got one hundred percent of our money, even though we're playing a little less in terms of games, but That was that was a good thing as well and then the third thing was the social justice aspect. WNBA is eighty percent black women. You know we're kind of at the intersection of so many things, and we need our league to stand for something and to support us, so those were kind of like the As you mentioned it's so hard to make these decisions when you're working with such imperfect information, especially scientifically, right? What was that like for you personally making that call? I don't know if there's going to be a great analogy, but because I've had so many surgeries and I've had to do. A lot with. Doctors and getting opinions, I've actually I've come to understand that. We've viewed doctors in this light of knowing everything and I've actually in my own way. I've come to understand that they they know a lot, and hopefully you know you have doctors. Luckily I do around you that you can trust, but there's a there's a limit to that. You know when they cut you open to perform surgery. There's always a percentage you know always a chance that it's not gonNA. Work out exactly how you want so for. For me I. Just tried to actually put myself back in that mindset like okay. They're giving us as much as they can. But there's obviously uncontrollables is well. I mean honestly the State of Florida. The one, but that's a whole other bag Ormes,

B. S. they want to make sure that not only were they not targeted that they were they were singled out for praise and so forth so it was I mean it it's no different than these corporation jumping on climate change and trying to say that their their paper towels now are made with brand new green technology the greatest solar panels are his it's all marketing it's all designed to make customers think that they're responsible and good citizens and all that stuff it's it it it just it's it's it's so I understand I I noticed something else that goal for me is like I can't I can't mention I should even said what I said but I'd love to but I'm just not going to it would it would it would have been it would you know man that's right that's right but I would be letting myself in for so much crap and I need to get a couple shows under my belt here before I'm willing to accept the crap that would come this way John I appreciate the phone call I have a couple more sound bites on a squeeze in here mark Milley who is the job the chairman of joint chiefs of staff this was Thursday national defense university delivered a pre recorded video commencement address as many of you saw the result of the photograph of me at Lafayette square last week that sparked a national debate about the role of the military and civil society I should not have been there my presence in that moment and in that environment eight a perception of the military involved in domestic politics as a commissioned uniformed officer it was a mistake but I've learned from deep state not going to give up now to put this in perspective I want you to listen to a sound bite from Rick Grinnell the former ambassador to Germany and the guy who class a declassified all those transcripts of Mannum ships stupid little hearing he was up he was on Tucker Carlson a week ago tonight and he talked about these kinds of things he's generals and military people disowning trump we have a real problem in Washington DC because it's a system that is no longer really Republicans and Democrats pushing against each other to create a good policy it's no longer a fight between Republicans and Democrats it's a fight between Washington and the rest of America it's like musical chairs from one agency to another there's no outside thought there's no outside perspective when someone like Donald Trump comes in and says why are we doing it this way they attack him because he's breaking the system he doesn't play by the rules exactly you folks this is exactly this is what pushed back looks like I've always told you and trump is the one guy doing it and they don't they don't like it they don't they they just don't know how to put up with it but they know that they hate trump and they want to get rid of him and Grinnell is pointing out like Colin Powell all these other Mitt Romney running around joining the Biden campaign when they would never ever do that except for their hatred of trump it's because trump is still pushing back and trying to drain the swamp meetings.

Details emerge on "really smart guy" who aced tests in college scam

"So let's talk about operation varsity blues that is this this this cheating scandal case that has drawn a ton of attention. And I think for all the right reasons because this is a horrible thing to have happen in our society. When you've got a lot of deserving kids deserving based on merit being denied admission to some of the top universities because. Rich people coming in and trying to buy access for their kids. So you know, that the guy who ran this operation, the main guy with this operation was a character by the name of singer singer. But what's really interesting is the person who was tasked with taking the tests or grading the tests or proctoring the tests for the kids so that they could get their ACT and SAT numbers up. He's a guy by the name of Mark Redel? All right. So singer is the guy who ran the operation Mark, rebel or right? L is the college entrance exam counselor. Who is the main focus of the cheating on the tests component or the tweaking of the tests. So, you know, the consultant is William Rick singer. He pled guilty Tuesday in federal court in Boston to helping students cheat on their standardized tests, but the brains behind the operation was this guy rebel thirty six years old. He was supposed to be in court today in Boston. And he was the one actually filling in the bubbles. For the progeny of the actresses, and the lawyers the businesses the children of privilege rebel is a kind of an interesting guy because he's smart, and he had a lot of opportunity, and he kind of comes from a decent background. And why this guy would decide he wants to start cheating mean other than the obvious getting paid is beyond me, but rebel right L, rebel. We'll just say rebel has been charged with conspiracy to commit mail fraud and honest services mail fraud as well as conspiracy to commit money laundering. He's been cooperating with the investigation since February. He's actually hoping to get some leniency when all this is put debt in a statement emailed Buyoya to the Washington Post rebel apologize says he's taken full responsibility for his actions. I wanna communicate to everyone. I'm profoundly sorry for the damage. I have done and the grief I have caused those. As a result of my needless actions. I understand how my actions contributed to a loss of trust in the college admission. Nhs process. Meanwhile, as you might imagine he has been suspended indefinitely. From his job as director of college entrance exam preparation. IMG g academy a private sports academy preparatory school in Bradenton Florida that he would be suspended from that job. While this stuff is going on. He's also an alumnus of the academy this academy that he was a part of had trained hundreds of Olympic and professional athletes tuition, by the way. Seventy seven thousand dollars a year. If you live there and go to school sixty one thousand dollars a year if you just go to the school as a day student. From there. Redel the guy who has taken the test went on to Harvard University where he dazzled as an NC two A division, one tennis player and by all accounts. He really was a tennis player. He really did play tennis for Harvard. It wasn't the scam in the flimflam. He was raised in Sarasota, Florida. He was named the tennis player of the year in one thousand nine hundred ninety nine by the Herald Tribune, his hometown newspapers father is a prominent real estate lawyer in the area with degrees from Michigan state and Wayne State university of in Detroit. A woman who answered the phone at the number listed for his parents threatened to call the cops and hung up when we asked her questions. This is the Washington Post. He began his job as IMG's exam. Prep director in oh six and lives in palmetto Florida, just outside Sarasota records show. He married a college classmate and helps direct the local Harvard club of Sarasota, he has been given or he has given modest sums to local candidates. But otherwise, he's. Remains remote from high profile debates and scandals by all accounts, lives, a quality a quiet life seemingly at odds with the brazen. Acts of fraud of which he now stands accused. What should be noted? According to the Washington Post is this man rebel had no inside access at the exam companies that the parents implicated in the scheme so badly wanted to beat what he had was a Harvard degree and a good set of test taking skills. Andrew Lang the US attorney for the district of Massachusetts offered this assessment of rebels utility quote. He was just a really smart guy. He did not have inside information about the correct answers. He was just smart enough to get a near perfect score on demand or even to calibrate to score. So it didn't draw too much attention. I just need fifteen points. Get me fifteen extra points. Get me twenty extra points. That's what he was able to do. According to the indictment singer flu rebel to Houston. In different locations in California where the self-described quote master coach had bribed test administrators for their cooperation and paid the Harvard. Grad ten thousand dollars for each student whose testy either corrected or completed entirely by himself. Let me just say parenthetically. It's ten thousand dollars is nice. Nice money. How many people got busted in this in this game? Do you remember? Was like fifty. So let's say he made ten thousand. Let's say he did fifty tests any ten thousand test five hundred thousand dollars. But is that are you gonna race your entire life over a half a million bucks? When you clearly he's got skills. Sometimes the students believe they were taking the tests for themselves other times rebel actively helped him on the exam in the fall of two thousand fifteen a thirties said he sat side by side with a student as she completed her SAT in Belmont, California, providing her with answers and later gloated about getting away with cheating that was the young girl. I told you about that was in the newspaper. Authorities said in the summer of twenty eighteen he completed the ACT in Houston hotel room for the son of Jane Buckingham. The chief executive of a boutique marketing firm in Houston. I believe her book. If you look it up Jane Buckingham is her book is entitled how to get out of sticky situations. Singer boasted that rebel was his best test taker according to the indictment he could quote nail a score. He's that good. That's that's who this. This guy is the US attorney leveling echoed the assessment when he addressed reporters on Tuesday explaining how singer would discuss with parents their child's target score which had to be good. But had to allude suspicion. See can't cope from like zero to a fourteen hundred you've got to kind of work your way up. He then would direct rebel attempt to hit that exact score that they were looking for his page on the IMG academy website was removed on Tuesday a cash. Eight version includes the boarding schools account of his duties and credentials. He was a coordinator and leader of the college entrance exam prep. So he's obviously steeped in entrance exams and the college exams, so he's probably taking these tests on the side for fun. Okay. That's a b squared. Okay. That's three. Okay. That's see. Okay. That's. There's only going to be like a universe of questions. I mean, probably some of them are very familiar, and if he's taking all these tests, he's probably just getting better and better taking the same darn task course over and over again. Imagine. If like, he's just will be interesting if he just had a massive change of heart starts to out these kids bloom. What do you mean only got three hundred? I'm never gonna get it. Now. I'm going to venture now rebels page. So it says that he was basically in the test. Yeah. I think I'm gonna taverna tank out all your tests. So is the coordinator and leader of the college entrance exam. Prep was responsible for the schools, test prep curriculum and recruited tutors to fill the growing need for additional one on one tutoring. Which allowed the students to have private learning opportunities and customize their educational experience. John I'm going to see if any of them want to come and hang with you. All right. "Park in Bradenton, Florida, yours springtime home of the Pittsburgh Pirates here in beautiful Bradenton, Annemarie island, longboat key area. Absolutely gorgeous here on Florida's west coast by sharp contrast to what's going on at home today where I've got a little bit of shoveling to do you have people love to come and enjoy spring training from Pittsburgh. And it's fun for us every year because we get a chance to meet some of the players and really those relationships, even though they're short term they last for us the whole season, and you feel like you get to know these guys a little better, and it really helps through the course of the season because it it adds to the enjoyment of the games. And it's interesting because there is a function in the clubhouse kind of a hierarchy if you will in the clubhouse and over in the back corner. This is where the relief pitchers are located and right in the very corner is where Philippi Vasquez's locker is located and he has kind of become the father of the relievers. If you will be in the closer. So we go over to talk to him. And I said Phillipa can we talk to you for a Senate, and he's got between him and me there is a chair, and the, you know, nice chair. And he says, do you have a passport? What? No, I don't have a passport I'm eases. Then you can't come in his personality cracked up laughing push the chair out of the way stood up. And we had a nice conversation. He came to the pirates late at two thousand sixteen whereas number seventy three this season Twenty-seven-year-old Felipe Vasquez from Venezuela. Good morning. Discussion of the happenings at the MLB Winter Meetings 2018

"Yankees. Mets Marlins deal that would involve JT real Muto Noah Syndergaard Miguel and do Har. I'm Ed Rosario. Couple other moving parts real Muto into any with the Mets. The. Yenkey would end up with Noah, Syndergaard, not sure really what the Marlins would get besides Ahmed Rosario would have to be a lot more than just that for them to give up JT real Muto. I mean, no question about that. So it just comes down to just what's fun going on there at the winter meetings. We're going to check in in Las Vegas momentarily. But I'll tell you what it's just always fun to see the rumors, and how about this one, Lance Lynn. Gets three year thirty million dollar contract. I must be getting old here, but the amount of money that teams throw around on mediocre players is stunning yesterday. We talked about Andrew mccutchen whose past his prime getting fifteen million dollars a year. Now, you're talking about Lance Lynn getting ten million dollars a year. Now, it's a step back from the twelve million you made last year, but still he's not crying poverty making ten million dollars a year as an average pitcher coming off a season with a four point seven seventy IRA. Lance Lind's were ten million dollars. You can't be serious. Producer Shawn Watson Makia. Lance Lynn's a ten million dollar player in today. You're getting from the Yankees this year. Eight and a half is it. So then yeah is worth ten million dollars. Yeah. Is he worth more than of course, a bath is thirty eight and going on thirty nine these finished. But still had a better here than Lance Lynn. Right better longer. That's true. That's true. I wouldn't give in ten million a year if that's the case. So here's what I don't understand yet. What's the market going to be like for the closers like these relievers? Right. What's the market gonna be like for them? I think the market has gotten bigger and bigger for relief pitchers. And I just think that honestly like when you're the Andrew Miller's of the out of venos- or the kimbrough's or the David Robertson's Zach Britain's of the world, what's the money to be like for those guys because are they more valuable than a Lance Lynn in today's baseball. Right. Yeah. Right. I mean, are they more valuable? They are right. Well, let's in is reliever. Well, don't forget that. Well, but he's more starter. Right. He can do both. He could eat. Yeah. But I think they're bringing them in to be a starter. I would think. I think that's why you're gonna pay Lance Lynn ten million bucks. It's not my money though. That's the funny thing it's not my money. But it's just always like unfathomable to me when I look at the amount of money. Some of these players end up getting it just really incredible. I don't think we'd have the law jam like we had last year. You remember Lance Lynn didn't sign too late. He was one of those guys that was taking part of that crazy camp in Bradenton Florida the free agent training camp. Remember the spring training for the the free agent players. So he at least has signed early it. Seems that look I think what's interesting is when you talk about Manny Machado, and you talk about a Bryce Harper. You could eliminate ninety five percent of the teams in baseball from being involved in that. Right. I you know, that there's going to be ninety ninety five percent teams that are not gonna get involved. And those guys are already shopping in that bargain-basement been they're the ones that look at a Lance Lynn and say, hey, maybe there's good value there. That's the market for those guys. So I think the question's going to be for the big market teams. That may be interested in a Bryce Harper. Manny Machado when are they going to put some pressure on? The Scott Boris is the world saying, look, we gotta get something done here. Because in the meantime, other guys are signing elsewhere, right? If you're looking for an outfielder and Bryce Harper's who you've looked at and you end up not getting Bryce Harper who's going to be. Left on the market in two or three weeks, depending on when he's going to decide to sign at some point. You say, okay, we got a pivot away because we haven't gotten any word. Do we sign the Andrew McCarthy since the Phillies, frankly, did they make a statement by signing mccutchen? Which is. Yeah, we'll go and get ourselves the infielder Machado. But maybe we're not going to go after Bryce Harper. Like a lot of people say we are. Or are we going to now go out and spend another ridiculous amount of money and get Bryce Harper. We've brought in two new outfielders into the mix with Andrew mccutchen. And Bryce Harper. That's the interesting thing to me when you look at what's happening because I think teams don't wanna be used against each other. Right. Nobody wants to be put into a bidding war, and that's exactly where Scott Boras makes his money. He wants a bidding war for Bryce Harper. He wants a bidding war first clients. And the fact is a bidding war, though takes time. And if you have a bidding war teams going to get involved, and because the money is going to be so incredibly large. Then if you're willing to go thirty to thirty five million dollars a year on Bryce Harper, and you don't end up getting him. And then you have to pivot quickly away the warriors what's still left on the market by the time. I'm eliminated from the Harper competition or what's going to be left. If I'm looking for a shortstop slash third baseman wants Manny Machado signs, and I'm left holding the bag and the other names out. There are Freddie Galvez, and I'll Sita's Escobar and a Denny hetch of Iria guys who can't hit a lick. So I think that's what teams have to weigh here. Sean in terms of what exactly they need to do and getting involved with the big names, and how long are they willing to sit there and kind of have that money sitting there in escrow because they don't want obviously go out and start using it on other players to Bryce Harper makes a decision. They might be like crap we spent too much. We can't make that deal for Bryce Harper. Well, I mean, that's a possibility. But I don't see that happening. Because teams have an idea about Bryce Harper. They're talking to Scott Boris. They know if he has interest, so they're going to save the money until they hear his final answer. Yeah. But then they may hurt themselves. That is true. That's the problem. They may be hurting themselves. See I think the Phillies as much as I think they overpaid for Andrew mccutchen. Right. I think what the Phillies are looking at is. Look we need to outfielders. We're going to be in the Bryce Harper sweepstakes. Because we have a lot of money to spend. We got fifteen million dollars on the books this year and outfield with Andrew mccutchen. We can still fit another thirty thirty five million with Bryce Harper. Maybe another thirty million with Manny Machado, whatever it is. And maybe they can go out and make a big splash with everything. Right. That's the team that I think is going to be intriguing because if there's any team that potentially will go out and we'll get not just Harper, but also Machado. It's the Phillies. There's no other team in baseball right now, you can see spending money to bring in both Harper Machado and adding sixty to seventy million dollars payroll. The only team that can absorb that type of hit is affiliate because their payroll number isn't very high for next year. That would be fascinating, Sean. If the Philadelphia Phillies come out of the winter meetings or come out of the two thousand eighteen year, and they have signed Harper and Machado. And by the way, it's not crazy to think they could do it. Seriously. Heard that too. It is crazy that signing both of those guys. Why not? Why not six million? In two players for the next ten years. Yeah. They got the money. Got the money crazy. Seriously. They got the money to do it. Why not love to see it happen? I seven hundred million. Yeah, they're not doing that. I don't remember the Phillies are about to start their own regional networks soon to okay. They have a terrible TV deal. They're about to start their own regional network. To me be interesting to find out what that means financially. Because I thought there a big market team people show up at citizens Bank park, the Phillies, you know, are they make money. The question is if they get their regional network, they can be making a heck of a lot more money. If that's the case. Yes. Seven hundred million dollars over the next ten years from shadow and Harper, and you know, how packed the stands. No question about it for ten years going with those two big names. All right. So what did Tony LaRussa say backing up Harold Baines for a hall of fame induction? We'll tell you next going deep. Dan, Schwartzman, NBC sports radio in the NBC sports radio mobile app.

"With the pops orchestra of bradenton sarasota this is going to be saturday september twenty second at the sir sorta opera house right downtown we're not cutting any corners there's valet parking this is a night at the at the opera house with a sixty piece orchestra playing ryan's music along with michael mendez will be there as well from the west coast black theatre troupe and we're going to be doing basically a showcase of hip hop music and culture in in both form so you're gonna see a traditional sense of hip hop with deejays mc's to open the show and then our main act will be rainy tone michael mendez with the sixty piece orchestra playing music from his album that we released last year called the cosmic guide that is why old yeah and it's something we've been we recorded the album out three years ago and it was something we said then that know ryan said you know i'm gonna play this song with an orchestra and we did that last year and we just continued to kind of build and say you know how can we do these things so we have some things we're going to be involved with their kids camp later this summer so people will actually have an opportune unity to see us perform with your chestra before before september just to kind of get a taste of what we're working on that's coming up at the end of june so how often i'm wondering does the bradenton sarasota opera orchestra get together this is the it's the pops orchestra and it's made up of everybody from the community as well that i love that you're you're bringing all john or as kind of together that's the goal is to have you know these cultures i think that people normally wouldn't see come together in a way that very different and we hope to draw everybody who's interested one side into hip hop music but also drawn into classical music so hopefully we have a very diverse crowd that fills the opera house that night you get tickets are tickets will be on sale probably in mid may we just made the initial announcement this week and then we'll begin promoting and really pushing through until september and we have some other events we also just announced along with that that we have seven schools for the summer learning academies through.
