"braden gaul" Discussed on The Paul Finebaum Show

"On this Wednesday edition of the Paul fine bomb show. Georgia, who can beat him. Georgia, Michigan, Bama, USC, our top four. Missouri most underrated team in the SEC question mark should gambling be legal in all 50 states to help bring all this above board, just some of the many things we've discussed today on the show. My name is Braden Gaul and for Paul. You can get to me on Twitter at brayden Gaul 855-242-7285 a few more minutes for your phone calls here on the program George in Florida George welcome to the show. Hey, thanks for taking my call. This is excuse me. I'm your final on your top four. You pretty much gave us George of Michigan to run off the bat. Then someone went George of Michigan or how state USC. So I figured Georgia Michigan Ohio State Alabama that you have Alabama the third UFC fourth. Is that correct? That is correct. Well, the Georgia three P, here is why I think it's not going to happen. I think that George had, who did I play? Do they play anybody in non conference? You want to get many competition. This year, like the last couple of years they have. They've played very good non conference. They'd be Clemson two years ago. They destroyed Oregon last year. This year, Georgia Tech is really the only one on the schedule. That's what more is me if I were a Georgia fan. You're going to run through your season, I think. Until the SEC championship gave it really, I don't see them being challenged that much. I think they're going to run into LSU or Alabama probably. And then you're going to get into the obviously if they get to that point, even if they lose that last game in the final four and you're going to be the thing is you're going to be beating teams that I think are far superior to what you played all year. I agree, George. And I appreciate the call. I think this is one of the more interesting points about Georgia. And that is, if Carson Beck is really good, how do we know how good he is through the course of the regular season? At auburn is a tough road test about midway through the year. At Tennessee in November is a tough road test at the end of the year. Otherwise, every other game they're going to play against quality teams, not great teams, but quality teams, South Carolina, Kentucky, Ole miss, Missouri, good teams, not great teams. They're all going to be in Athens. So the question is, do you even need great quarterback play to get to Atlanta? And then the follow-up to that is, does that hurt you? I think George is going to play a lot better teams than the punchline radio show guy saying, oh, they're playing a bunch of 7th grade teams on their schedule. No, their schedule is much better than people realize. They are good football teams on that schedule. But George is way better. They should beat all of them. But playing good teams doesn't give you that one thing you need, which is what Missouri gave them last year, which is a fourth quarter drive that you have to have. And even close ish games, ten point games, 14 point games against Kentucky, South Carolina, Tennessee, auburn, olmes, Missouri, all pretty solid football teams. Ten point games don't give you that I'm trailing by three on third and 7 in the fourth quarter and Carson Beck has to make a throw. You don't know that about him. And if you get to Atlanta at 12 and O, you still may not know that about him. And that is the question. That is that's one of the most interesting angles of the Georgia bulldogs this year. Is they may be so good that they are not even challenged in the fourth quarter on a critical drive where we even know if the quarterback is good enough to handle that stress. That is one of the most interesting parts of this entire conversation. 8 5 5 two four two 7 two 8 5. Joe in Alabama Joe, what's up? Hey, thank you for taking my call. I really appreciate it. Two points to make. Number one, the only team that's going to be Georgia is Georgia. I hear that. And they're going to take something for granted and somebody is going to take advantage of them. The second thing is in Alabama fan thank you for putting Alabama fist 6 7 wherever. Because that means that the fan base will not be expecting much. And every time there's a victory, we can celebrate it instead of saying, okay, well, that was supposed to happen. So.

"Or 6. That way you can get a look at all these teams and engage them from their performance. That's my opinion on that. But as far as Alabama being number three, and I know it's just an opinion, so I'm going to give you mine. You got a team that had two losses before the Thanksgiving turkey was cooked. Now they went out and get a backup quarterback from Notre-Dame, they had three of the first top 12 picks in the NFL Draft, but they couldn't win the SEC west. So what is the case for Alabama being number three? Other than brand name and Nick Saban. Well, a lot more than you're given credit for JK. I'll say that. I will say this. We got to have pre season polls. How am I going to make some money, dude? Like, we got to have to sell magazines here. We got to have things to argue about on radio and on Twitter. We can't. We can't get rid of poll preseason polls. Come on now. These are just our opinions. Nobody opinion is wrong, but it's something that there's some opinions that can be debated. But the question was asked, what team can beat Georgia? The team that doesn't line up with them and try to play smash mouth and play to their strength. Like most teams do it Alabama. The only teams that are gonna beat the alabamas, the Georgia's and the brand name teams or teams like this year, it's gonna be and takes her a and M that's got a coach that's known for while offenses and hurry ups, Tennessee, those teams can beat the big teams. Because of their style of offense. It's not the defense anymore. It's these offenses that these guys, thank you for the call, JK. I agree with you, but I got to stop you right there. Because Tennessee's offense can't beat Georgia. In fact, the Josh heill Baylor offense has been stopped almost every single time it's run up against teams with better players. If you don't have better players, they will whip you. That's why Tennessee's floor is so high. Even with Joe Milton without henan hooker, that offense is so good that it's a proven commodity and it's going to be most teams that plays against unless they have better players. And right now, on their schedule, Georgia and Alabama have better players and Texas a and M might have better players. Watch out boys. Texas a and M at Neil and stadium, October 14th. I'm calling the upset right now. Now, you're coming about 8 M is just factually incorrect. Jimbo Fisher runs one of the slowest offenses in all of college football. And it's why he's no longer running the offense. It's why Bobby P is running the offense. And that is why people think a and M can be better. And the reason if you like a and M is because they've recruited those horses on the defensive line. Best offensive line they've had in a couple of years. These are the reasons to like a and M. I agree with you. It's the passing attack. It's not the defense. You can't line up against Georgia and play Michigan football. That's the problem. You have to play USC football. Caleb Williams football. Lincoln Riley football. You got to play CJ Stroud Ryan day Ohio State football. You got to be out in space with dudes. And the guys who have that right now on paper are U.S. seal House state LSU Florida state and Texas. And to your question about Alabama, let's talk Alabama here. And I know we're up against it. But what does Alabama have coming back? One of the best rosters in all of college football. They are better along the offensive line. Better at receiver. They are better at a lot of positions on the offense. They're two coaches. The two coordinators, I think they upgraded. They're two coordinators. So what does Bama have coming back? Is arguably the best roster in college football not named Georgia or Michigan if they find a quarterback, and that is a huge if. Huge if I get it huge if. And it's why I don't think Alabama is on my list of teams that I would pick right now to beat Georgia to one game situation because they don't have the quarterback position figured out. And you can't just write that off. The teams that have the guy figured out, I'm down. I'm down. 855-242-7285. "Number three Alabama. Number four USC. That is the aff on sports preseason top 25 or top four, I should say. And we've given away a magazine to Jerome, who got those four teams correct. I think those are the best four teams in college football. Does it mean they're going to finish there? Who knows? I don't see how you can argue anyone should be above Georgia at number one. Who can beat them in a one game situation? I think it's a handful of teams, and that is what we are discussing today on the Paul fine bomb show. Braden Gaul in football here on ESPN radio 8 5 5 two four two 7 two 8 5. I'll touch it on the gambling situation in Iowa, people need to know it is very different than the gambling situation in Alabama. If you are under the age of 21 and you place a bet anywhere in the United States, it is illegal and therefore criminal and therefore could be a part of this. If you're a college athlete and you bet in the facility on some sports, that is against the rules NCAA and could be a part of this investigation. As of right now, there is no impropriety in terms of the outcomes of games in either the Iowa or Iowa state situation with dozens of athletes being investigated for gambling. It's just regular old college kid stuff. It is not the same as a baseball coach, being on the phone while he pulls his pitcher to some buddy in Cincinnati placing a bet for thousands of dollars against his team. Very, very different. That is fixing games versus college kids do in college kid things. I just want to point that out. And the sooner we are legal in all 50 states with gambling. The sooner the NCAA has a uniform law uniform rules, the sooner we can bring all of this above board, bring it into the light, make it a better and safer situation for everybody involved. 8 5 5 two four two 7 two 8 5 Robert in Alabama, you are first up Robert, welcome to the fine bomb show. Thank you, brother. Yeah, man, I get a kick out of these Louisiana, these LSU and SEC fans rip it on FSU. Look, FSU had a 24 to ten lead in the fourth quarter last year with a team that hadn't been to a bowl and 7 6 7 years and they act like will they beat Alabama and then they act like, oh my gosh, man, this is the best team of all time. A better Florida state team is meeting them in Orlando, but LSU is supposed to be top four. This is so funny to me, man. I mean, how the SEC SEC SEC, you know what I'm saying? I mean, it's just so it's just amazing to me how they have a short memory and matter of fact, look at the history of the series. FSU dominates LSU. LSU is nothing. They are zero when it comes to that series. I think it's like 9 to two, 8, two, anyway, I'm sure I'm going through like a hurricane so I'm gonna have to let you go, but I'd love to hear your response on that. Stay safe, Robert. Here's what I'll say it. I said it early on the show. And this is I think it was Shannon right in Louisiana that said, Jane Daniels might be the best quarterback in other than Caleb Williams. I don't think Jaden Daniels is the best quarterback in the game against Florida state. Jordan Travis is I could argue the best downfield thrower of the football in the entire country. He has great weapons, he's got norvell run in the system. I agree, Florida state is better this year than they were last year. Look at how they finished the season down the stretch. I have LSU in Florida state basically at 6 and 7 dead even with each other. Now, I will say this, Robert, I don't care about the series history. I'm going to pick Jordan Travis to pick on an LSU secondary in Orlando on Labor Day night because I think that they can win that matchup, not because of what happened in 1989. So I don't care about the series history. Unless it's like a rivalry game that's played every single year and it's a lot of the same players and then maybe you can talk about South Carolina losing four straight to Missouri and that being in their heads. That may be, but not not between two non conference foes. I think Florida state is going to win because they're better. At certain positions right now. And I think both teams are going to be ten and two. They're both very, very good. And I think both of them could beat Georgia in a playoff situation. The question is can either of them get to that situation? That's my question about Florida state or LSU. JK and Birmingham, JK, what's up? What's up, brother, you're doing all right? Yeah, man. I'm just talking ball, you know? Having fun. Hey, man, let me talk a little about which I'm gonna give you some of my reasons why I disagree with these top four you got. The only one I really agree with is Jordan and Maine is because of who they got coming back. And that peewee football schedule that they have. All right. Michigan. Michigan has one problem. It's Harbaugh. How about is the Chris Paul, rosa Westbrook, James harden, of college football, a hard bar is a part of your team, you're guaranteed not to win a championship. Now let me skip down the USC. USC is their whole scene is dependent on their quarterback, which he is a great quarterback. But one player, I can't ride him all the way to the playoffs into a championship. Now let's get to this number three team. Which is only only poll because of brand name Nick Saban, blah, blah, blah. Well, I'm going to give you some reasons why they shouldn't be there. First of all, these are pre season polls, polls that come out before even watching the team play one game. But it takes 9 weeks before the playoff committee comes out with their top four. Or their poll. So why shouldn't the playoff committee be responsible for these pre season polls? Or just eliminate pre season polls until afterward. Week 5

"You turn into a star down here. We want Billy, we want Billy. Until somebody had called the NCAA anonymously. The federal probe has turned up widespread fraud and corruption in college basketball. Listen to the bag game from 30 for 30 podcasts. We all got mud on us, man. All of us. 855-242-7285 Braden Gaul in for Paul here on the Paul fine bomb show. We're gonna talk gambling. What is going on with Iowa? How concerned should people be with gambling in the state of college athletics? Very different with what happened with Alabama baseball and Iowa right now. So we'll talk gambling here in just a second. But coach Woods, coach Woods, you got cut off. I want to give you some time coach Woods. Welcome to the fine bomb show. How are you, sir? I'm doing fine. Thanks for taking my call. Very surprised I was able to get in on the first time caller. I guess the questions are who can beat Georgia? You got it. And you want to look at the top 5 ranking teams. That's where we're at. If you can guess the Athlon top four correctly, I will send you a magazine of your choosing. Okay, Dan, I'm a go with George's at the top. I'm going to go with USC second. I'm going to go with Michigan third House, state four. You got one out of four. That's tough. You got one out of four. You got one out of four right. USC went in at all. Okay, I like it. And yeah, the teams that could be Georgia, I think this is a good time to catch them. They trade and quarter their. Starting a new quarterback this year. So if you want to get them early, this is the best time to do it right now. I have a UFC being able to beat Georgia. My surprise team if they happen to play each other will be case day. And if Richardson was still at Florida, then this would be the year for them to beatle. But I go in with their schedule. I think LSU would be the one to give them their only loss in conference. Thank you for the call, coach Woods. Thank you for holding and we apologize about the mistake earlier. I do think if LSU, the way they are constructed with their quarterback and the way the offense, again, I think it's the most complete offense in the SEC, not the best, but the most complete offense in the SEC. I think they could give George a real chance a real run as it were in the SEC championship game. All right, Josh and Alabama, Josh, what's up? Welcome to the fine bomb show. What's up man? I want to give a crack at the top four. Yeah, go for it. I'm going to go, Georgia. One, in the Michigan two. To allow Ohio State three and USC four. Three out of four. You got three out of four there, Josh. I appreciate it, man. I appreciate it. If you get four out of four, all correct, I will send you an Athlon sports magazine. By the way, on newsstands now. So go check it out. I've been working with them for 17 years, very proud of that product. Lots of really good reporting and storytelling in there, about a lot of different parts of college football. So I've been around a long time and we appreciate your support. So go check it out. If you can get the top four correct, one through four in the right order, I will send you a magazine. And I'm giving you clues here, people. 855-242-7285. I'm giving you clues that last caller. Josh just got three out of four. You're just missing one now, okay? Context clues, people. My name is Brandon gallman for Paul here on the Paul fine bomb show ESPN radio. We're gonna talk gambling coming up. The baseball coach getting fired at Alabama, very different than what is happening at Iowa. And I think, frankly, what is probably happening all over the country as it pertains to gambling on college athletics, some rules need to be changed, we will dive into all of those things right here on ESPN radio. My name is Braden Gaul. This is the Paul fine bomb show. You were listening to the Paul fine bomb show podcast. So gambling is legal and like basically two thirds of this country. And so there's going to be some stuff that happens with gambling in college athletics that are going to create problems. However, the problems that took place at the university of Alabama in the baseball program last week and the problems that are taking place in the state of Iowa and perhaps elsewhere in all of college athletics are very, very different and to explain all of that Amanda Christopher joining us here on the Paul fine bombshell Braden gall in for Paul from front office sports one of the best websites out there if you're into this stuff. Amanda, welcome to the show. Can you try to explain to people the difference between what is going what happened with Alabama and what's going on with Iowa? Yeah, absolutely. And first of all, thank you so much for having me. So I would say that the Alabama scandal appeared to be a pretty cut and dry situation where potential match fixing you could say was involved, right? So Alabama's baseball coach evidence emerged that he had an unnamed person placed to bets on a game against LSU. And he was fired shortly after. And the assumption there is that as the coach he either had certain information or even maybe, again, this isn't proven, but maybe he did something to the lineup that would have resulted in an outcome that he bet on, right? So that's pretty nefarious. What we're hearing with Iowa and Iowa state. Is not related to the integrity of the actual games themselves. There are 41 current athletes implicated across the two schools, multiple sports. But what sources are telling for an office sports and have also told I believe the action network I saw a report is that the this is more an issue of athlete betting on games when either maybe they're underage or it's against NCA rules for athletes to bet on any sport at any level that the NCA sponsors. So this is a little bit more of just kind of kids making a mistake doing something they're not supposed to do, but it's not affecting the integrity of the game as far as Iowa is aware. Do you believe that as more information is processed in like milliseconds by these supercomputers and algorithms in Vegas that are tracking all of this stuff that once we have all 50 states legalized gambling that we're actually going to that's actually going to be better for the integrity of the outcomes, which we know, of course, television partners and leagues care the most about of all things. Absolutely. I mean, technology was clearly involved in figuring out what was going on in Iowa, one of the sources said that geolocations were part of how they figured out that people who shouldn't have been betting on certain games were betting and that's also something that was the case in the NFL. You know, I think it's like the age old question across a lot of different whatever you want to call them vices is it better to legalize it and regulate it across the country or is it better to sort of try to prevent people from doing it at all? I mean, and the other thing that I'll say about the 50 states is that every state has different regulations. So when I was doing the story, I had to look up is betting in Iowa sports betting in Iowa even legal, right? It is. So it wasn't just that, you know, there are states where you could bet and it's not even legal, even if you're of age, even if you're not an athlete or and I also want to point out that it's not illegal for a 21 year old college athlete to bet on particularly a sport that they're not involved in in any way, shape or form. That's just against the NCAA's rule.

"Can't throw the ball if you can't block. And I think that that we're going to learn very quickly whether South Carolina can block or not. Ben Shane, the evolution of Shane beamer. This is a guy that has a very modern persona when it comes to sort of how to run a football program. I like all the stuff that he does. If you beat somebody to the winner go to the spoils, you can talk some trash on social media if you want to. You control people if you want to, you can have fun with people in the media if you want to. Does he need to evolve at all or is listening to all the noise like part of his like how he may like how he builds what he's built? Does that make that question makes sense? Yeah, no, I think that that's something that sometimes we forget with Shane is like his exes that I know his knowledge is as good as it gets, right? And I think that some of that we lose it in the sense of like, yes, there's the thing about shade wasn't a hot shot offensive coordinator when he got hired, right? He'd mostly been a special teams coordinator and in his places, but he is a guy who understands his excellent and has hired a really good people around him. I think that are that way too. And I think that also is just like one of probably the most competitive human beings you'll ever meet. We talk about it all the time and as good as sort of easygoing and as easy sort of good guy that Shane is and I don't think a lot of his public persona is an act by any stretch. I think that shade is also one of the most fiery and intense competitive people on the planet and I think a lot of times people take these sort of like, oh, he's love it on his guys. That means he's soft. It's really the polar opposite of that. And that doesn't necessarily answer what you were asking about X's and O's, but I do think that this is a team that there may be not going to scheme you to death, but I do think that there's stuff that goes beyond that of beliefs and all those other things we hear in college football all the time. That's, I think, part of the reason why South Carolina has been able to punch above its weight a little bit the last few years. Ben always a pleasure, my friend, good to talk to you, buddy. Go back to the yes, the best beat in America. Appreciate it. Appreciate you guys having me. All right, but of the state. Now, listen, I will say this. I'll say it loud and clear on the Paul fine bomb show for everyone to hear South Carolina, Shane beamer, I am sorry. I was dead wrong about your program last year. I was wrong that. And if I'm wrong again, I will stand up and I will say proudly that I am a cock a doodle doofus. If I get it wrong again, but I need to see the consistency out of the quarterback. I need to see it. I want to see the offensive line develop. And I was wrong last year. Many of us were wrong last year, and we are sorry. I'm apologizing openly. But I need to see a couple more things before we start talking about South Carolina in that Georgia Tennessee, that top tier category in the east. And yes, I know the score of the game between South Carolina and Tennessee. We're going to talk gambling. How about some gambling? What is going on in college sports? Should we be concerned or is gambling a good thing? Is legalized gambling helping this process? We're going to do that and we'll take your calls, all of that next right here. "Paul here on a lovely Wednesday afternoon. This is the Paul finebaum show ESPN radio been taking your calls 855-242-7285 that's 855-242-7285. You guys know the number. We'll get back to your phone calls here momentarily. Again, the Georgia bulldogs on paper, you can not make the argument that they're not number one. They are number one. And if you want to guess our Athlon sports preseason top four, magazines on sale now, of course. If you want to guess, I've been working an Athlon for 17 years. If you'd like to guess our top four and you get it right, one through four, I will send you a magazine personally. 85 5 two four two 7 two 8 5. Georgia has to be number one. There is no argument you can not make an argument for another team to be number one, especially in May, and we're talking about on paper. They are the number one defensive line in America. They are the number one set of linebackers in America. They are the number one offensive line in America. They have the number one set of defensive backs in America. They are number 7 according to Athlon sports in terms of running backs in America, and they are number four in terms of wide receivers in America. The only argument against Georgia is a fluke ish one game situation where they get beat by an elite quarterback with elite weapons, a great scheme, and some good pass rushers to disrupt that Georgia offense. Who has that formula? USC number one on my list, Ohio State number two on my list. Caleb Williams there or how states weapons and play calling, great defensive front, LSU would be number three on my list because of Jane Daniels and how complete that team is at LSU. Maybe the two best defensive players in America in Smith and Perkins in the front 7, and I might even throw Florida state in Texas in that mix because of how complete those offenses are. And how good the quarterback could be for Florida state in particular, Jordan Travis. We'll find out week one against LSU. So tell me who can beat Georgia to one game situation because I don't put bam on that list right now. They might be on that list at the end of the year. They're a quarterback away. They are a great team, but they're a quarterback away. You can clip that statement and put it in the facility. Michigan and Penn State, I also think our quarterbacks away. And Michigan, it's more it's less about even the quarterback as it is the style of play. They want to play bully ball. They want to be power. They want to be Jim Harbaugh, personified on the field. It's just not, I don't think you can do that against Georgia. And I'm not going to use we saw this two years ago because the teams are different. But I think JJ McCarthy has not evolved the Michigan offense yet enough for me. I think Penn State is got a chance to be an elite football team this year, but drew aller, the star, big time sophomore quarterback, 5 star. We just don't know what he is yet, just like we don't know what ty Simpson is yet. So I'm not there yet. Great offensive and defensive lines for Penn State, though great running game as well. 8 5 5 two four two 7 two 8 5 John in Iowa, John, welcome to the Paul fine bombshell. How are you? John and Iowa. There we go, John, what's up? Yeah, can you hear me? Yeah, I got it. Can you hear me? Excellent. All right, I'm going to take a stab at this top four. So I think we got Georgia number one, obviously. And I believe Michigan is going to be number two. Good. And then I'm going to go with Ohio State at three. And the Alabama crimson tide at four. So close. So close, but incorrect, John. Oh, so close. What else can I do for you? Can I have a redo? That's going to cheat everybody else out of the game. You know what I mean? Yeah, no, I understand. I understand. I thought I thought Alabama would be would be four, but they must be must we went ahead. There you go, John. Thanks for the call, man. I appreciate you waiting and check out the magazine. Athlon sports. 855-242-7285 Frank in Georgia, Frank welcome to the fine bomb show. Hey, thanks for taking my call. I think that Georgia is the team that can beat Georgia and it could come in the way of South Carolina. Is that the third game? At South Carolina, South Carolina's beat us a handful of James and half of the times when we've had the better team and it's just the rivalry game. One of the rivalry games that Georgia has every year and you saw what South Carolina did to get to Tennessee and twist in last year at the end of the year and Shane Bieber's that special coach and I think that Carson Beck has not been tested yet and if he has a couple of turnovers, maybe a pig 6 or two that they should just go off around. So that's what I'm and also auburn because we're playing on over and also and that's a rivalry we're going you never can get to know who's going to win that game from year to year either. Other than that, before you pick, I'm scared of LSU as a Georgia fan because of what their backup quarterback did to us in the fourth quarter last year. I mean, you know, they've got the recipe to beat Georgia with that patent attack, I think. Thank you, Frank. I appreciate the call. I do think you're right. I should list Georgia at number one. Who can beat Georgia? Number one, Georgia. I do think that that's true. Now I will say this about the schedule. I think South Carolina is a very dangerous team. I think Kentucky is people are undervaluing Kentucky. Kentucky is going to be sneaky sneaky good. I think Missouri is going to be better than people think all three of those teams win totals, 6 and a half right now. I might take the over for all three of them. I really like Missouri and Kentucky this year. And again, the SEC's middle class is healthier than it's ever been. It's going to be tougher. There's going to be more 50 50 games than we've ever seen, but not for Georgia and here's the problem with their schedule. Not at home, not that early. South Carolina is in Sanford stadium. Kentucky in Sanford stadium, Missouri in Sanford stadium, Ole miss in San Francisco. Obviously Florida game's weird sometimes, but I don't think Florida's there yet defensively. Tennessee could be a tricky game late November 18th. That one's tough. At auburn, I agree, Carson Beck's first road trip. I just don't see South Carolina Kentucky, Missouri or old miss, all four very good football teams potentially. I don't see any of those teams going into Georgia and beating that team. Especially not week three with South Carolina where the offensive line has major questions. Spencer Rattler still has to prove the consistency. There's just still, I love the weaponry for South Carolina. But on the road week three, it gets that defense. I don't know. I can't go there just yet. 855-242-7285. Is there a chance they slip up once? Georgia? Sure. That's the name of the game. Three peat is hard. That's why no one's ever done it. 855-242-7285 Braden Gaul and for Paul here on the Paul fine bomb show. Let's go to Jeff in Arkansas. Jeff, what is up? Hey, thank you for taking my call. Sure thing.

"A and M could possibly have been a landing place and Kublai over at Clemson was a guy that had a and M pies and a and M was really. And so between those three guys, it's going to be interesting to see how their careers play out because there is an alternate universe where any of the three of them could have landed at a and M and been the guy for Jimbo Fisher. Travis Browne from the evil joining us here Paul find bombshell. Thank you so much, Travis. We appreciate it, buddy. You got it. I am utterly fascinated with Texas a and M. I think he makes a great point there about the offensive line, by the way, because all the haters, we all love to rip on Jimbo. We like to rip on a and M, all the people around the country, you think they're overrated all the time. They're right a lot of the time. But the best offensive line Jimbo fishers had, since his time at Texas a and M with the paired with the best quarterback he had, they finished 5th in the college football playoff rankings one spot out of the playoff. They were one spot out of the playoff. They finished 5th. They lost one game that year. Yes, it was a blowout Alabama, but they finished 5th when they had a good offensive line and a good quarterback play. And I think the idea is for Texas a and M is that they will have their best quarterback play and their best offensive line combo with Bobby P this year in College Station. At least since that year in 2020, for sure, who can beat Georgia in a one game situation and we'll give away some magazines, 855-242-7285 Braden Gaul in for Paul, this is the Paul fine bomb show. You were listening to the Paul fine bomb Joe podcast. 855-242-7285 brayden Gaul in for Paul here on the Paul fine bomb show ESPN radio. The question is in a one game situation. Who can beat Georgia right now? On paper. USC number one for me oh how state number two LSU number three Florida state number four Texas number 5 on paper because that's where the games are played. Rick in southern Cal Rick, welcome to the Paul 5 home show. How are you, sir? I'm doing well. Thanks for taking my call. So I got to get four and I've got to get them directly in order. Yes, you got to get one through four in order. So essentially, essentially, two through two, three and four because I would have seen George's number one. I can't imagine anybody else. So you are correct. God, as much as I hate, it's got to be either old House state or Michigan. I'm going to go Michigan because of the quarterback. Okay. Probably O House state.

"Name is Braden Gaul and not Paul finebaum, but I am here for the next four hours to talk college football with you guys. Got lots of stories across the country. We got gambling in Iowa, which is very different from the gambling in Alabama. We've got more Georgia players running afoul of the law. We've got lots of stuff to get to, of course, the women's softball tournament underway as we speak. Women's sports, of course, dominating television ratings. I know, I know one little 6 year old in my household who's tuned in to what's taking place in the women's softball tournament can not wait for that thing to get playing up in Oklahoma City when it gets to the national level. But again, we are here to talk college football. My name is Braden Gaul, app rating goal on Twitter, 8 5 5 two four two 7 two 8 5. And I want to begin, again, just for you, Jim. Just for you, I want to begin today with one question that I have struggled with. So I work for Athlon sports for 17 years. The number one preseason magazine on newsstands for the better part of 70 years. And I've been with them for almost two decades and we had one of the easiest decisions we've ever made with the number one team in the country and you all know who that number one team is. The two time defending champion Georgia bulldogs. Now I am going to give you guys a chance, an opportunity to win some magazines from Athlon sports today on the show. We're going to give those away. Stay tuned for that coming up in a few minutes. However, 855-242-7285. I want to know who can beat Georgia. If it is that clear and that easy of a choice at the top for almost everybody, no matter who the publication, no matter what magazine no matter what website, it no one can make a case on paper, that anyone else is better than Georgia in my opinion. And I think in a one game situation, there are plenty of teams that can beat Georgia. But who on paper is better than them today at this stage heading into the summer SEC media days, all that stuff? Nobody. Nobody, it's not close. It's not close. If I was making the case for the top teams to be able to beat, are you able to be able to beat Georgia in a one game situation? Number one on my list would be the USC Trojans. Because what's the formula to beating Georgia? CJ Stroud and Ohio State showed us the formula for beating Georgia. Alabama and Bryce young and the SEC championship game two years ago showed us the formula to beating Georgia. You need an elite quarterback. You need elite weapons that go down the field. You need a brilliant offensive mind and you probably somehow have to figure out a way to get the Georgia quarterback off of his spot. Right? Those are kind of the three things you have to disrupt, disrupt the Georgia offense, go down the field with your weapons on the outside and you're probably going to need an elite quarterback to do it. And even then, Ohio State couldn't do it. Alabama did it. But then nobody else really has over the last two seasons. They've only been challenged a couple of times. Kentucky seems to want to play George's game and they give them a challenge, I guess. But you can't play George's game. You got to do it differently, which is why U.S. sees number one on my list. They have the best quarterback in America. They've got maybe the best play caller and best designer of an offense in college football and Lincoln Riley. They've got elite weapons all over the place on that offense. Offensive line is going to be excellent. Defensive line is a loaded with transfers. USC's number one on the list. In a one game situation, right now on paper, who could beat Georgia. It's a USC number one. Number two, Ohio State. And I know I can tell what about quarterback, what about quarterback? Kyle mccord is going to be the guy. It is the best receiving corps in America. One of the best offenses in America and they're probably among what the top two or three best rosters in the country top to bottom. They got one of the best front 7s in America. They can pressure the quarterback. Give me a House state at number two. This is where it gets tricky. Who is capable of beating Georgia? In a one game situation. Again, I think there's plenty of teams, but number one for me USC, number two Ohio State. Number three, LSU. And this is where you Bama fans listen up. I think Bama is the better overall football team than LSU. I would pick Bama to win the west over LSU, but I don't think Bama right now today is better equipped to beat Georgia than LSU is. Because of the quarterback. You can't just take Tyler Buckner in the portal and after watching spring practice and I'm assuming Nick Saban's gonna clip this and run it in the facility as rat poison. But Alabama's quarterback problems quarterback question, I should say, not a problem, a question. Tells me right now that on paper they're not the team that beats Georgia. LSU, meanwhile, one of only two teams in the entire conference that return its starting quarterback and its offensive coordinator. LSU has two of the best defensive players on Planet Earth in mason Smith and Harold Perkins. Their offensive line returns all 5 starters. LSU is going to take another step this year. LSU could beat Georgia in a one game situation. Number four on my list, Florida state. Jordan Travis arguably the best deep ball thrower in all of college football. Two NFL wide receivers on offensive line that returns largely intact and a really nasty pass rush on the defensive side. Florida state is number four for me. And this is going to sound totally bonkers and I get it. But really it's just the top four. I'm just adding a 5th one here to make it to make myself feel better to round it out and maybe to drive everyone nuts. But the other team that has all these ingredients and they're one of the only teams in America.

"Second hour Nashville as Alabama wins game one. 70 to 49, Tennessee playing Missouri right now with a slight lead. A couple of games after that, Braden Gaul joining us from ESPN radio. Braden, it is a good see. I feel like you know this audience pretty well. You've sat in spring and summer and been subjected to all the things that subjected. What are you talking about? It's a pleasure. It's a pleasure to see you. Welcome to Nashville and hosted the final I'm sure I have to go through. These are our people, Paul. They are also involved in a company called four 44. What is that? Local digital company here in Nashville, all natural sports. So if you care about things like the predators or the Titans, SEC football, of course, we got you covered four 40 sports on the Twitter account there on the YouTube page, the whole deal. So we believe in giving people a communal experience, which I think is what the fine bomb show is all about is this sort of unifying togetherness and love of a common command deal and that's what we've got at four 40 sports for Nashville. And sort of middle tennesseans as well. But it's all digital. Check it out. We appreciate it. I've always been curious about Nashville because I remember Nashville and it didn't have anything. And the Titans and the predators, it seems like especially the predators have really grabbed this town. That's true. Football still dominates. If you look at the TV ratings, it's still absolutely the Titans and SEC football. In fact, what's fascinating is that the vols and Bama have battled for supremacy in the city. Really? Yeah, so I moved here before the predators in the Titans came here. I moved here in 96 and it was a Tennessee town. Four to Tennessee was the SEC east championship game. It was the SEC championship game. That's the rivalry I grew up with in high school here. A lot of power teas everywhere in Nashville it was a Tennessee market. Right around 2007, Paul, I don't know what happened around then, but right around 2007, there are a lot of more script days, a lot less power tease in the market. A lot of Alabama fans in Tennessee ratings in middle Tennessee, huge ratings, TV wise for Alabama games. It balanced out this fall for some reason. Also, no, no idea why. No, a lot more tease, a lot more orange started showing up again, but it's still a Tennessee market. When they're good, it's people are really into it. They have to be good though. But like Nashville's, I love this city. It's my home, but Nashville will leave the party pretty quickly if it gets dull. So you got to keep people. I remember being here, I don't know, 8 9, ten years ago, whatever it was and they were winning. Oh yeah. And everybody was a predator, Sam. Well, the cup run in 1617 changed everything. It brought in the common fan, the casual people, Broadway was insane down here. And even since then, the city has changed it, but there's about 14 more buildings downtown just since 2017,
