"Live on the view. Here come hot topics with whoopie sarah. Hey be har- sunny hoskin and meghan mccain. Now let's get things started. Hello and welcome to the view while the capital stands on alert for a possible second domestic terror attack based on the big lie about election fraud. Democrats and republicans are in a tug of war over how americans cast votes now. The house just passed a bill to expand rights and accessibility but republicans and forty three states released two hundred and fifty three bills to tighten restrictions. Now we just had the largest voter turnout in american history in on election that was overwhelmingly confirmed by more than sixty courts and the entire intelligence community so joy what additional election integrity are republicans. Looking for here integrity is not the right word. The republican party cannot win without lying cheating. Or suppressing the vote and they know it. Why else would they try to stop mail. Voting sunday voting automatic registration. Why would they do that. Otherwise the attorney general of arizona. He himself said the republican. The republican party said that they are defending voting restrictions because quote it puts us at a competitive disadvantage translation. The fewer people who vote the likelier. It is for them to win. Okay they have nothing to offer americans. It is bankrupt party. They didn't even bother coming up with the platform last election. It's a cult of personality. Now they're against everything that would help americans health care for all of this package. That joe biden's trying to pass covert relief the minimum wage. They're against that with help. Americans and americans a catching on and that's why they have to suppress the vote sunday. The election fraud lie led to the capital insurrection. How can both sides still be this far apart on voting when pretty much it seemingly went the way it was supposed to. It did go the way that it was supposed to and we did have record turnout. We now know that this was the safest election in terms of integrity in us history. And so i think what we're seeing is as joy looted to a desperate party trying to make it more difficult for people to vote and more difficult in particular for people of color to vote to disenfranchise those voters if you look at some of the things that republicans are putting forth georgia. Republicans want to make voters wait for hours while making it a crime to give them water in line Texas republicans will accept your gun license but not a student. Id to vote things that are happening and if you look at. What's really in the bill. The bill creates automatic voter registration so voters have to opt out and not opt in. It requires officials to automatically register. Eligible citizens requires at least fifteen consecutive days of early voting with sites. Open ten hours. A day prohibit states from restricting. Voting by mail expands. Absentee ballot drop boxes. establishes independent redistricting commissions. To end gerrymandering prohibits voter roll purging. Look at what. The republicans have been up to. As of as you mentioned what february nineteen twenty twenty one state lawmakers have introduced two hundred and fifty three bills in forty three states but state legislators late legislatures with the highest number of bills were georgia pennsylvania and arena which all flipped in two thousand and sixteen from a to vote for from two thousand and sixteen. I apologize to vote for president biden and twenty twenty and they are scared because of the results of the election megan. Gop is so opposed to the bill. The democrats passed yesterday. This is this is a complicated one. The first thing. I wanna start out by saying that. I'm a constitutionalist and i believe in the constitution. And i just don't think this is constitutional. I don't think the federal government should be mandating. What states should do. And this actually went to the supreme court. On tuesday and briar kagan actually ended up siding with republicans and those are obviously more left leaning supreme court justices. What this bill. Hasn't it that. I find particularly problematic. As it's going to allow felons to vote even if you're convicted of election fraud so what you're saying about national security threats right now. If mayor giuliani or the mypillow guys somehow go to jail for helping inciting violence or spreading this lie of election fraud. They still will have the right to vote. I don't think that that should happen. I don't think someone who was convicted of election. Fraud should still have the liberty and luxury voting. It eliminates the voter. Id these are things you do. Need to do. In america to adopt a pet to rent a car to get on a plane to buy cold medicine to buy a cell phone to get a job. So you have no idea whatsoever. This allows minors to vote so that includes down to sixteen year olds. The democrats are saying at the same time they expanded obamacare up to age twenty six because the idea was that twenty six year old. Still really haven't had this like you know. Sort of failure to launch that. They still need help from their parents. So on one and twenty six year olds can't pay their own healthcare but on the other side sixteen year olds should have the right to vote and have the responsibility and competence devote. So if this is where the mandate is that it's going to be sixteen year. Old can do whatever they want. Then we need to remove that from obamacare as well and everything that an eighteen year old can do a sixteen year. Old should be able to do as well. It expands the quote. No excuses absentee voting. And then my my biggest problem with is that it's sending public dollars to fund political campaigns. And i just don't think that our tax paying dollars while the country's absolutely falling apart should be having our tax payer dollars having having influencing elections. And i just wish this was even pitched as a topic i feel like people are just seeing it through one. One linear lens. this isn't about Whatever however you feel about republicans and republicans trying to take away. It's about how you interpret the constitution. And how you interpret state's rights. And i think it's intellectually dishonest. And quite frankly just in bad faith to talk about how you know. Republicans are evil and they wanna ruin the world. This is just a basic disagreement on how you think states rights should be run. Okay and sara. What's your take on all this. We had sixty six point three participation. The eligible population vote in this last election. Which is more than we've had in one hundred twenty years which is a good thing. This pandemic forced us to address due to public health and safety problems that were always inherent in the voting process. I remember asking my twenties. I had to get special permission to go vote. Because you know you're going to wait in line for hours and when you get in one or two machines always down it takes you a full day. That means certain parts of our population. It won't work for because they can't get off work. They can't go. Vote the fact that the system is the way we always need to have advanced mailing that allows for people to schedule to be a part of this vote and they deserve that vote. Also absentee ballot. Like how anyone could have an argument against the early voting and the absentee ballot. I just don't understand but this was the most secure election was vetted by trump officials. Themselves said the twenty twenty election was the most secure in american history state and federal judges appointed by trump dismissed more than fifty lawsuits of alleged electoral fraud and irregularities so the bill is tricky and not a perfect example because there are two things i find questionable in it. Which are the automatic voter registration. It wasn't my understanding. You know allows convicts sixteen olds to vote. I thought it put them in the system though which i still wouldn't want and the public campaign financing i don't love but the bottom line is this is clearly a political move to limit voters because popular. Turnout never serves the republican party. Well yeah and you know earlier we were talking about who it affects..

Remembering Eddie Van Halen with Steve Gorman

"Joining me now is Steve. Gorman who was the drummer in the Black Crowes who now plays with trigger hippy and before we talk about some of the Black Crowes stuff in your book I. I saw tweets even it was talking about Eddie Van Halen, which is Kinda. Why you here you say there will be many many words written and spoken about Eddie. Van. Halen, over the next few days, weeks, months and years those millions of words will never come close to expressing what he meant a rock music what he meant to guitarist and what he meant to the guitar itself that's pretty powerful statement Mr Gorman what did Eddie and remind me to rock music I. Think it's it's pretty simple. You can say that he and Jimi Hendrix of the two guys. That truly, and and only the two guys that moved the needle for the guitar itself I mean Hendrix. came out of a blue based. seem. And took the playing and the tone he could get to a new place but even hail and. Really almost came in from another country. Another planet I should say another he's like an alien life form I mean, he was a virtuosic player obviously but he He reinvented what what you could do is to guitar and the fact of the matter is this. Like Hendrix. But even to a greater degree, anybody tries to play like Eddie. Van Halen. Just sounds like a mind a mimic they. It's like rich little doing Johnny Carson okay. Yeah. That kind of sounds like him but. There's nothing nobody's ever been able to do any van. Halen. Did it make it feel a certain way? That each just the and he was that way at twenty two I mean, this is this is not a guy like it's not like David Blaine magic tricks where he gets bigger and better every year he started with card tricks that other people did I even Halen hit the ground running with Van Halen one playing an instrument that have been around for centuries unlike anybody else had ever done I mean he was on the Mount. Rushmore. Of Great Depar- players. At twenty two years old and then, and then he stuck around for another forty years still playing unlike anybody before sin. So I just think that in terms of. You know. Sheer unique. Mindset ambition combined with just. Great talent obviously. But but also phenomenal work ethic I mean he's just a complete unicorn in every sense of the word. How would you describe his guitar sound and I say that I know what I think of it but I wasn't I just messed van Halen like I came around right as you guys were blowing up honestly so that for me the van Halen was slightly classic rock slightly old rock to me as A. Kid. So as someone 'cause, you're just years older than I am but how would you describe his guitar sound someone who was in in it and living it in love and Van Halen? Well I can tell you that that was thirteen years old the first time I heard Van Halen and I remember it. I remember where I was I remember who I was with. It was going home from school in Hopkinsville Kentucky. You really got me there kinks the you know the their cover, the kinks song came on the radio. And and it was playing already and I said, Hey, mom turn that up. It was me and my mom and my friend Brooke. Lofton. The three of us in a car and she turned it up and I my first thought was. That must be like a live version of the king song and I was thinking like we don't they don't rock or do they. But when it hit that Solo and then by the time, the song ended I realized well, that does that's not ray Davey seeing this is clearly a cover version but what on earth is this and it was like making my? Hair on the back of my neck stand up. This is a time when I thought punk rock was the coolest thing in the world. and. The truth is Van Halen was more punk than the punks because they were truly breaking down a bunch of barriers if you will or they were going in their own. You know there hasn't been a band like Van Halen since led Zeppelin in terms of. Rock band hits the ground running at full steam and it obliterates everything in their path in a certain sense and. Jimmy van Halen sound it sounded like California was in my head. You know soon as I realized soon as I heard about them, they're from La, and as soon as I saw David Lee Roth and then as soon as I heard more than you know the next thing I heard was eruption Guitar Solo and you know hearing just two pieces of their first album and seeing what they look like it just. It felt brand new and it already felt like they're going to be around forever. You just knew from the jump and this is me as a thirteen year old kid who is obsessed with music. This band is one of the Alzheimer's like there's nothing like this and they all have the chops and the other thing too as long as I'm just rambling incessantly any van Halen was a great rhythm player. It wasn't just about the Solos he led the band rhythmically and he's also it needs to be noted not that it's not obvious. He's a hell of a songwriter I mean he really was. As I said before he's a true Unicorn I mean, just just nothing like it. What does this sound like do you? It sounds frequent and right in right in the zone near your your key. That's one thing because listen I played a little bit I don't play even as good as my friends who are real life musicians, but it's perfect frequency and frequency is in the tone or the, but as because it's a lot. I mean Brad Paisley plays unnoticed Brad. Paisley. Because I hear the chicken Pickin I hear a very distinct sound and again I didn't catch van Halen as it was happening in my childhood. But when I hear Van Halen Song even if I, it's I, don't know who it is. Just hear the guitar part I hear the Eddie van Halen because I how fast he shreds but the pattern that he does it, you can just tell. By By his fingers and it just kind of again it's hard to explain when you ask about music but that's what I think about and I try to. Always try to. Prepare analogies and most of the people who listen to this podcast here between twenty to forty, and if you were to make an analogy to another band, it's GonNa be tough because Van Halen was massive. But who later on had the kind of? Impact or. Reflected the mass listening that Van Halen had well. What band what yeah. What band can we look at now or in the last ten years and see? Okay. Well, that's how big Van Halen was to the people that were the kids in the eighties.

Without her out there and read like what would have been her lines and had to do the math in my head of that's right for ad. It's like don't say that. I read the whole by myself because she was still getting zipped back there. She was having a connection but that that happened frequently where she almost didn't make it but only one time did she really not make had to go out just read the whole thing. Off by the way, thanks for your question and by the way Brad. How crazy? That you did that parody song to Joe Lean like a year ago that quarantine parody song. I mean, are you are you a psychic friend or what? Now. We did it. You know when we did it was for what was it for for either swine flu or? or No it was. It was like Ebola yet was a ola we did. Yeah. Women Shine at the 2019 CMAs

"CMA awards are known as country. Music's biggest night at the third annual award show last evening the stated focus was celebrating legendary women in country music but for many fans of Country Countries Superstar Carrie Underwood who's also a long running host of the ceremony. The night was a bit of a letdown. Here's Nashville based NPR music critic. Ann Manpower's the status of women in country. Music is a hot topic in Nashville. These days and it has been since two thousand fifteen when Keith Hill who radio consultant made some comments since that gave rise to the phenomenon known as Tomato Gate or salad gate. He basically said that the reason that women were not often played on country radio. Oh is because they were the tomatoes in the salad of country music just there for an accent. Unfortunately the data backs up. What Hill was saying? It's shocking looking how little there played compared to men so there's been a grassroots movement activist groups like change. The conversation down here is it's a big one that have really fought back against this and women are organizing women artists organizing and one way that people respond to these kinds of challenges. Challenges is to mess with award shows. Because you know what John. It's easier to mess with an award show then to mess with the radio format. Sadly yeah I saw on the red carpet Jennifer nettles from the band Sugarland War Cape. That said play our expletive records. Did that message carry out into the show in terms of what people we're saying as they were picking up awards. Oh definitely a one. High Point was when Casey mass graves one for female artists of the year. She gave really heartfelt acceptance speech where she talked about. How female energy is important? Not just for country music but for the earth right now. It's kind of like Greta tune. Bergen Komo moments. But you know that vibe ran through the night in the way that the hosts spoke the evening was hosted by three women usually it's hosted by Carrie underwood and Brad Paisley. But instead of Brad we had to legends of Country Music Reba mcentire and Dolly Parton three women hosting the CMA's Ama's your lucky and definitely surfaced. When women won awards I I guess one or two of the dudes mentioned something to I think Dan Shea The duo who won I think they made a comment about how wonderful it was to see. So many women

Buttigieg country music radio interview blocked from airing

"Cumulus media one of the largest broadcasting companies in the country has blocked one of its country radio station hose from airing his interview with twenty twenty democratic presidential hopeful people to judge the mayor of south bend Indiana now see I didn't hear was a country station yeah Blair garner who self titled Nash FM radio show is syndicated nationally across more than a hundred and fifty stations interviewed to judge on Wednesday while the democratic candidate visited national Tennessee is part of his campaign tour it's important to Pete to reach out to voters everywhere said his campaign manager Liz Smith we've made a point on this campaign to go outside the traditional political media bubble that's why we reached out to Blair on the country station about an interview Blair has a pretty big audience and it's an audience that doesn't typically hear directly from democratic candidates for president okay in his roughly twenty minute interview mayor Pete discuss meeting a country music I've cons Brad Paisley into McGraw he called on the Democratic Party to reach out to more communities traditionally viewed as right leaning I think our base tends to be more conservative garner told bill because of his programs listeners and the fact that you from the democratic ticket are the singular Canada to reach out and to say may I please be on your show that you're reaching out to listeners I think well we all have race that and be appreciative of that right about that reaching across the aisles thing we keep hearing right but but but but cumulus media decided to spike the interview blocking garner and affiliate radio stations from airing any part of it more what he said to my employer decided I couldn't bear it he tweeted with a link to the interview published on his personal soundcloud account garner had intended to run the interview beginning Monday a source close to the radio told Huffington post in an email sent to affiliates Friday morning and obtained by the HuffPost garner said he planned to include two segments of the interview in the show and broadcast the full exchange in the subsequent podcast it is not in any way shape or form my intention for our show to become political the host of the show's wrote in an email but because someone clearly saw the value of our listeners I felt secure enough for that opportunity but no cumulus media said I've been to what he says I've been told the interview cannot air but I know right nation wide I was proud well if you don't think you need the the explanation I got my radio news letter this morning was they were citing the equal time rule you that's very easy to which I said yeah okay sure we we have politicians on our show all the time and I'll say it right now if if you're running for office and would like to be on our show call us and we have opened all see we want we don't exclude anybody go so they as the if they're calling it an act of cowardice for a company whose slogan is where every voice matters Boehner candid number three and what would happen if you did hear from mayor Pete anyway all right there you

"I mean as much as that's what I wanted to be. I wanted to be those guys I've never even done this kind of song. So it was fun to do Brad Paisley's. Here got the new song bucked off track. I mean, this point I've heard a bunch of times, and you talk about bullets 'em in bits, a metaphor, right guy. Getting bucked up a bowl. It's kind of like any of us having to get back up and do it again episode to kind of sucks a little bit exactly as well. As the idea with production-wise what we went into did. You know, it's like this is a it's a fun take. I it's crazy. It'd be a fun song about getting dumped. But you've been there. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, I can't remember longtime for me. I can't remember that long for you. Remember like maybe last week, but still it's like to be able to look back fondly on, you know, early December early November for you. Brings back. So many memories of you know, your Halloween break-up. That, but we went in and cut this with there's so many production things that were fun little nuggets. Just the what I liked when we finish the thing is I like the song anyway. But the idea that the bridge your in marina del Rey at that point. I mean, it feels like we'd go from my one of my favorite tour straight records to this rock and chorus which is more Rockin than something. I've done in a long time on the Bobby bones show. Now, Brad paisley gotta play that new song called bucked off hope everybody check that out. Carefully. The FCC is listening. I've already been finding a million dollars for the sea. Like, they're always listening to me. That's true. Yeah. You can be the first about. Yeah. I'm like on the watch list. I'm on the FCC watch list already 'cause I've been in trouble. I mean, come on. I don't even think about that. The fact that you bring up FTC because I love him, by the way, if they're listening. I love my heart. I love the SEC. But yeah, they find me a million dollars years ago. It was not a good good point about that. I thought I was done with his job. Yeah. But now you dancing, again, not something I'm really into talk. Listen, here's the thing. You have to talk about it. I just have you seen any of my dance moves have you seen even a club me? Dancing on the show. Yes. Oh, you have. It's making this making the rounds. Totally. Yeah. It would seem like it'd be one of those things he'd pass it'd be like. It does seem like that. But that's not how it happened. But oh, but it is every guys sort of worst nightmare is like clips of me dancing online. The closest I have to that is I went to a party at all places at the White House ones. And so I I don't dance like, I don't do it. Guitar my hand, but it's the White House. It's like a party where they're having dancing, and I see over in the corner will Ferrell is now a friend of mine and I had met him before. But at the time, I I'm like on a will..

"I've never claimed. That would be the best answer. I think I've grown the most on the show, and I am getting kind of. Okay. Yeah. I really are guy can say whatever he wants. But I'm getting kind of okay at this thing and give me like three more years and probably as good as the other three. All you need is three years of dancing, eight hours a day near golden dancing onto this. Oh, of course, not. Oh gonna plus it done. I did this to challenge me and to show people that it's okay to jump into something really uncomfortable. And if you just lower your head and work hard enough good things can happen. That's not that did it, and I'm not trying to be on. So you think he although if I'm being honest, they have approach me to be one of the pros next year on dancing with the stores. Right. Come back in now. Yeah. Incredible. Good. I've got how mad that people would be come back as a pro this shows over this shark done because your body movements or like that broom or whatever my, but. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Tonight to see may awards or on ABC at eight eastern seven central and I'll be presenting Brad paisley will be hosting what I'll be presenting with Sharona my dance partner from dancing with the stars is vocal duo of the year. So basically, it's two people to win deal. So here are your nominees vocal duo of the year. Brothers osborne. Dan, shea taste. Still see Florida Georgia line. Matty. In sugarland. Really? Now tell you too weird category for me to present. Because I would say I'm more than just work friends with some of these people like I'm life friends with more than one group because I would say. Dan, shea and brothers Osborne and Christian Bush Sugarland they would come to my house. Like, hey, come to the house. Unless had to be cool. I'm going to put awkward position. Yeah. But I mean, all you have to have an envelope. It's not you cast in the vote, but I can say whatever. And then you still pocket on No. no. And I have a new kind of friendship with Tyler Florida Georgia line. So now, they're all awesome. Yes. Yes. It's weird. For me. I wish I present a category that he's in. Nahshon said that I'm glad I get to present a category. Yeah. But what's going to happen is I always look in the card before I go out. Well, y'all look at it. You're not just as surprised as we are supposed to be. But what I do is this the court. I it's sealed you can take it and push it together in it opens. You can look at it. Oh, that's smart because one time one time I told him on they weren't winning 'cause I wanted them out to. Yeah. I was presenting on an award show. I should I know which which war gonna say so what I do is. I opened the card and I saw in the person who is up at the category was next to me, and I was friends with them. And I said you didn't win. So about to go out just go ahead and get your hopes down. And I think that person was appreciative a ho saying, I think that's good because then they know to have their fake excited on for the other person on accidental devastation face that people make fun of like, ooh, they looked very unhappy. And they were rude to the other person gives them ahead. That's good for you. Good looking out. So it'd be interesting tonight to what happens and are you going into the awards carpet? You're good. You Are could. you could sit with me? But Sharona said with the okay, basically been because it replacement at least for this. We're both on ABC. No, it totally makes sense. Geez. She presenting with you. She's nervous because she has to go and say things she has a little joke and her thing she's like, I. Nervous. I'm like, I don't worry about it. Not finally going to be the one. That's like she's nervous about delivery of Joe, she she hasn't never done presentation on national television before a talker. And she's like you nervous. I know what I what to this year wheelhouse. This me. I may just such a psycho side, the low the drunken sailor dance one of the moves. We do right out there. So comfortable..

So I had to ask Keith about it. And he gives us a slightly different version. So what was the original version of the story? The original version was that Keith was trying to pay. He didn't have money woman came to the rescue had no clue Keith urban. And then when they got outside she was kind of like, hey, wait a second. You seem familiar, and then he took a picture with her on at the line. And it's like this woman behind me another woman and other ones like four people in this line at a gas station, and I get sandwich drink, it's like seven bucks. And so. Okay. So I got no cash. Got a Bill Bill. Forget the five. So I pull out my credit card put it in the machine and the lady beside me, I'll please let me pay like pulling out your credit card and going through all of this is a bunch of people in line going. She goes all just all pay. And I said, no, no, I'm good. I'm good. I'm good on the credit card, and she goes, no, no, no police. I wanna pay. Well, I got five bucks, you know, and two seven. Okay. He's onto what you five bucks. Put the five bucks in the tip jar in the sweet lady pace pace for the extra bit. Okay. And I'm like, thank you so much. So appreciate that. You know, lovely I woke up and she woke sat, and she's like do I know you, and you know, some like, I'm Keith she God. So can we get a picture? Of course. Groceries. Funny. Yeah. He's an guy. He's at took off in the news. And he was like now on this guy. Can't I let retired schoolteacher pay for all my stuff? That's good job get into that story too.
