"Exceeding Wall Street's earnings expectations. Costco shares have risen nineteen percents. Since the beginning of the year more controversy at the White House after the Wall Street Journal reported that the name of the USS, John McCain was covered up and a staffer wanted the ship out of sight during the president's visit to an American port in Japan. Come Jeff Pohjola spoke with ABC's. Serena Marshall, according to White House made a request of the military. They keep the USS John McCain out of sight of the president during his visit to Japan. Now, we've been told through sources did that initially happened that day put up a tarp on Friday over the ship, there's photos of that tarp on the ship's name on the whole of the ship? But then they took it down when senior leadership were made aware of it now the US navy official acknowledged that there was that lower level effort to comply with the request, and like I said, they ordered that tarp to be taken down and navy leadership decided that name should not be obscured on the president of the White House today said he was not aware of it. He called the individual who tried to do it. Someone who is well intentioned, and that he never made that request. Or well, meaning was the term he is. But the John McCain's daughter, obviously upset over this. She says she doesn't know how she's supposed to grieve, her father, who's only been dead for ten months when he keeps being used for political purposes. She responded on Twitter called the president a child, but the US navy Patrick Shanahan acting Defense Secretary saying he's going to look into this, regardless, he's going to be having his teeth of staff, investigate where the request came from why it was initially complied with and in his terms, as you said earlier, he promised that the, the John McCain should never be disrespected that way. But also that the Steelers of that ship should not be disrespected time the president's the commander in chief he can order the armed forces to do whatever correct. Of the military, so he can make those orders than those requests as he sees fit. But there's a danger in politicizing the military and for that reason this would be very troublesome. If the crusted come directly from the president, like I said he claims that he didn't know anything about it. We, it's he never hid the fact that he's not a fan of the president. But the fact that this wasn't initially complied with it, somebody who was in the White House, who obviously had the pull and the insight into what the president lengthened dislikes to make that request. And so that in and of itself is troubling, but military leaders said that they overruled that way house requests, which makes it appear that it came from a lower level staffer. So with regards to the military, could we see any discipline for officers that were involved here? Indisciplined when the investigation is complete. But it is a question of where that request came from where in the White House, every, we're in the White House. They came from, and that we were told military leaders overruled that request Wednesday became aware of it. So it'll be interesting question of chain of command here. But that's something that the investigational turn-up ABC's Serena Marshall talking with komo's Jeff Pohjola. "Sounds like some past controversial comments Stephen Moore. Made Andy are coming back to haunt him. They were quite a few of them. They're almost too many to mention here. But what may have put the mail in the coffin was someone found a recording of him making a joke after President Trump won the election. This is kind of a race. Charged jokers as well, isn't isn't something because he basically I love this joke. He says the president President Donald Trump just a victim black family from public housing, which of course, was the Obama family. And he thought that was hysterical. Good day or two ago when he was trying to explain it his explanation was so convoluted that you basically said, oh my gosh. How is this man being nominated for for high position? And of course, not just Democrats is time, but Republicans including Joni Ernst Republican Senator said to the president, you know, maybe next time, you might want to send someone who's been thoroughly vetted and is appropriate for the position same with Shelley Moore Capito of West Virginia saying, yeah, you got to thoroughly vet people. It's only fair to us. So even his own party of saying, this was a really bad choice for a nominee. Appears the reason he got picked said he wrote a book that's complementary to the president. He's on television. As a economic pundit most nights on various networks being very complimentary of the president and that to. Have been enough for the president. Because it didn't seem to be a lot of other vetting that went into this. So this racist joke is one thing. But what was he saying about women, but he did say a number of things that were a bit disparaging to women, and he now says that they were all tongue in cheek they were written columns, though, the course of twenty five years, and he was just trying to be funny, and he was being satirical. I guess many work for one or two things. But there were apparently dozens of them that he mentioned these things, and that was a little too much even Republican women to take those Republican women who were mentioning about maybe doing a little more vetting. They're just coming off the situation with Herman Cain. The former CEO of godfathers who removed his name from consideration after allegations of sexual misconduct. That's one of the reasons he dropped out of the presidential race when he was running or Herman Cain was another head scratcher for a lot of folks, not just Democrats or Republicans who actually believe in the central Reserve Board and how they provide a really vital part of helping maintain the economy and control the economy. We know that the. Federal Reserve Board may have been one of the leading reasons that the deep recession didn't turn into a depression back in two thousand eight because they cut interest rates virtually zero so companies could keep borrowing and stay afloat at these Republican senators are raising red flags now why weren't they coming to the president early on before he formally announced who he was going to pick. Well, typically, there is a whole group of people in a White House that vets these people before the president even announces them. And also goes to the Senate and say kind of test the waters and say, hey, this is someone we're thinking about we've vetted them. What do you think, you know? So that they know is going to be smooth sailing. Apparently, none of that gets done the president just decides. Hey, I'm gonna make this decision. He puts it out there. And then it's surprised everyone sometimes even his own staff. ABC's Andy Field joining us from DC. Thank you. French president Emmanuel Macron pledging to rebuild Notre Dame cathedral within five years in a TV address today spoke to the nation following yesterday's devastating fire the cathedral, and he says the French will reflect and then act, but the people must come together. Fedral more. Back the done within five. Yes. And president president Macron said that he shares his people's pain, but also their hope as he's calling for this restoration ABC's. Mark Remillard, joins us on the KOMO news room and. Mark. This is a very ambitious goal after that devastating fire because some historians say this could cost eight billion dollars take decades to restore and he saying they need to do it within five. Yeah. It seems like an ambitious time line considering that we really don't have too many details yet about how significant do repair restoration process will be because obviously we know that there was a lot of damage from the fire. But the question remains about, you know, there structural issues in many of the towers or any of the main structure that did survive in what kind of restorations will those need more than just getting to, you know, the cosmetic issues inside the cathedral, restoring all the different features and things like that. That were inside there as well as the roof and the spire and all these things before the fire occurred. There was a group called friends of Notre Dame that had estimated that the cathedral needed a hundred and fifty million euros over the next thirty years in restoration. That was before the fire. Now, the thing is nearly destroyed and you're talking about what could be hundreds of millions more in euros or potentially to some potentially billion. Now, the good news is there has been an incredible outpour of donations already hundreds of millions of euros dollars pouring in to help rebuild effort in a strange way, this project of restoration that was undergoing at the time of the fire had been struggling to raise the funds that it needed and then after this terrible tragedy. Now, you have this outpouring of support in a strange way things have turned around. It is interesting. The twist in that, isn't it. And and we've got what some seven hundred million already raised including money from all these billionaires and the CEO of apple. Yeah. That's right. You mentioned the CEO of apple Tim, cook issued a tweet saying that the company plans to donate money to the rebuild effort did not specify how much or what we can expect yet perhaps. We'll learn more later, but some of the other big names that are included air Bernard Arnall to is the is behind Lou Louis Vitton, two hundred million euros pledge Francois. If you think of just the cost of the scaffolding alone to handle this project, but some of the things that were saved are, absolutely. Prices like the crown of thorns. Yeah. That's an incredible one to hear that that that was saved many many extremely valuable relics save. Now, you're going to hear of the destruction of many things, for example, the historic massive Oregon in there, you know, that's not something you can just pull out and save at the moment. But I thought that was saved there may be parts of advisor assuming some of it may be damaged. I think the from what I'm seeing the cultural minister said that the Oregon because there are multiple organs in there. But the the most impressive on them the one with that has some eight thousand pipes in it seems to be badly damaged. So I think there are more than one Oregon though that so there may be some that are okay. But the the the main one that was built back to the fifteenth century appears to be somewhat damage some of the stained glass is another thing that remains a question. It looks like the the the rose windows on the south facade and the western facade appear to be intact. But the northern window is not clear yet. Wow. That has fared in. Into three game losing streak here and turn the page on a new month. It was rough February. But here on the first game in the month of March. Bobby PJ equaling his career high in rebounds, which set in November twenty seven. He's got eight already. He's got four point. He's got a couple of assists in the game. He hasn't made a turtle terrific defense. He's been really really good shooting. Forty seven percent from the field Notre Dame just thirty eight percent. It's unbelievable. This twenty one of twenty eight twenty nine is that right? Nineteen. Twenty one. One is twenty nine from inside the arc. So they're shooting phenomenally inside the arc getting to the basket. Getting second chance points sixteen to advantage there but three point shooting. He's been inexplicably Famour. It's so shocking because they've had really good books and they're one of eighteenth play. Now Cunningham to war. Exactly why that was that was that they ran it dry with no defense out there that was right off the blackboard. Biggest lead at ten fifty four forty four minutes to play Goodwin. Trolls away. By Terry Gibbs was kind of playing hide and seek going back and forth. And he went in the past one out an internal because a back to the carts. Fifth turnover by Notre Dame. But rarely does the defense of anti-theft call well, especially around that defenders shoulder, they kind of feel he's got the edge is hope there's any contact here. It's kinda defenders responsibility to avoid the contact. I agree. She's got that little running back and got the edge. Mooney. Another double double hits the free throw. He's got twenty one points in the game along with eleven rebounds his conference leading eighteenth. As you mentioned the next biggest numbers. What nine I think? Or so about Luke. Restraining park for is gonna get free throws his two points in a game. Six sophomore averages eleven seventy six percent foul shooter. And he. The miserable. The foul line four. By the way, where's the shortest shorts? I've seen in quite some time. The trend is to a little bit shorter. These days really short. Old music aficionado who short short breaking. Trying to think, you know. This is a gear. Mobile has the ball on four point lead. Terry purely up top waiting for the play calling gives him. Defended by hob over towards the right way to Perry tosses. I'll talk the world and over the kings king on a Dr king. Gritted teeth of triumph Chris ruled that ball hall. Happy to see that he has played really. Well, that's a good strong finish, Dan Goodwin. Canadian afoul DJ not scoreboard and five points in a game going back into December. But having a big game today. The free throw. Notre Dame gets the trailing by fourteen points. Harvey around the top of the foul line jumper, tough shot. King was right there in his face. For a second field goal. Biggest lead a moment ago. Fourteen twelve. Sixty to forty eight years Cunningham show in the screen Foulon. Trying to make sure they stay aggressive offensively. Sixty to forty eight with eight forty to go. Bony with a ball of the high right looney Whitsett down a good when got loose. It's gonna be a goal. Dane good. And there's any compromise on the concept of a wall. It's still the biggest hurdle to these negotiations. But the Republicans yesterday in this meeting of negotiators were pushing for physical barriers maybe keying off what the president tweeted yesterday. Democrats were touting smart border security. There's still no offer from the Democrats. That includes money for a border wall. It's semantics are not the president has indicated that's what he wants. He wants some physical barrier construction. We just announced a record quarterly earnings this past quarter. You know, the economy here. Footprint has been solid. But for some of them, it's been an exercise and confusion and frustration others hesitant to apply. Knowing they'll have to pay back the unemployment benefits when they finally get back to work and house intelligence committee chairman Adam Schiff says President Trump's decision to reveal house speaker Nancy Pelosi's trip to Brussels and Afghanistan is quote, completely and utterly irresponsible. In every way shift won't comment on whether the trip is still on still to come thirty nine million views and counting. Manda factor. Gymnast from Newcastle. Talks about her perfect ten President Trump has grounded house speaker Nancy Pelosi postponing or overseas trip to visit troops in Afghanistan. He sent this letter to Pelosi less than twenty four hours after she sent a letter calling for him to delay his state of the union in light of the shutdown ABC's. Lana Zak is following this this he's been has South Carolina's Lindsey Graham, speaking out on Twitter, saying one sophomoric response does not deserve another. What is going on? Well, there is a very angry letter writing campaign that is transpiring between the head of congress and the house of representatives Nancy Pelosi and the president of the United States and both of them are just about as politely angry with one another as they can be. So yesterday, you'll recall that speaker of the house Nancy Pelosi said that while the government shutdown was ongoing, given the security and strains and the bird in that it would plays on secret service and the department of homeland security. Agencies that have not been funded during the government shutdown that the president should consider postponing has address until the government had reopened. The president today issued his own statement saying that while the government shutdown is ongoing he felt in the best interest of the nation that in Athens, and he said he would ground Nancy Pelosi telling her that she should stay in Washington DC, she should not head out with a congressional delegation. That was going to visit troops overseas in Afghanistan as well as US allies at NATO in Brussels, and in Egypt, and these this was actually a as is protocol, not publicize. We didn't even know that that is congressional delegation was headed over there as you can imagine these types of trips to war zones are not announced in advance because of security concerns, but the president in his letter to speaker Pelosi made it public this was about to happen. And that he was going to use his authority as commander in chief of the United States military to stop it from happening. You bring up an interesting point. Because you're saying it wasn't publicized. You didn't even know anything about it. But in his letter to Pelosi is saying, I am sure you would agree that postponing this public relations event is totally appropriate. And we have heard from a lot of people who were or or work with military families that feel like calling it a public relations event when a government official wants to go. Visit USO troupe that does that's rub. Some people the wrong way. But in essence, I think even less than that specifically, and it's more that it seems like as Lindsey Graham at it. Sophomoric response does not deserve another that they are acting like like petulant children and the minds of many people not able to come together for any sort of cooperation on behalf of the American people to president those still has not responded, formerly has e to Nancy Pelosi's request to delay the state of the union he instead wrote a fundraising letter has campaigned into supporters talking about it and saying that Pelosi would rather ignore our constitution than let. At him speak. Right. So and so there is no response on presidential. Stationary. But there is in fact, a and and that came from the Trump campaign, and in a fundraising Email that was sent out from Donald J Trump. It says he's says that the state of the union is not for liberal obstructionist is for the American people and said that Nancy Pelosi asked me to reschedule the state of the union address given the security concerns, but what about the real security concerns of American citizens and their loved ones. And this is signed Donald J Trump president of the United States ABC's. Lana Zak joining us from Washington. Thank you so much Lana.
