Use the difficulties in your life to achieve the best version of you. Ladies and gentlemen, our next guest is Brad Evans, who is the CEO of Health Fitness Technologies, LLC. And he's invented a real neat tool to help people with neuromuscular fitness. So we're going to get into that in just a minute. Welcome, Brad. Hey, thanks for having me, Dr. Laika. I appreciate being on. Now, can you tell me, Brad, how did you come into the world of being an inventor? Well, it was sort of by accident. Some of the best inventions seem to happen that way. My buddy and I, we both did martial arts and soccer. I was in better shape for soccer and he never got tired in the ring. And I thought, how is this possible? How could I be in better shape for one sport? He's in better shape for the other. Well, what I know about soccer is you have to be in phenomenal place to say to play soccer. I don't care what sport you're in, but soccer players because they're on the field all the time, having to move that ball up and down, especially if you play mid. Oh, my goodness. Do you have to be in great shape to be a soccer player? Well, that's what I was going to say. I did play midfield at the time. It's sort of funny. The older I get, the more I kind of move backwards. So now I'm on defense and in another five or ten years, I guess I'll be playing goalie. But yeah, so I'd run around with the ball all the time. So I did this research.

"And strategic preserving? If you're familiar with like Avery island where Tabasco sauce has made there used to be one there, but it turned into a sinkhole. They're big, salt domes that are underground big caverns that the sides are covered with salt. You have the big crystals of salt. They pump the oil into those things, and that's where they store it. It's not in tanks. But it's something new every day. Unbelievable. Where does he get this worthless knowledge? Greg, can you please come back to New York? We need to take this man to dinner. We need to take this man to dinner because there's a lot there. All right, Greg Jared, awesome stuff. I didn't know that. Now I know. So, you know, next time I'll be a little bit smarter talking about the strategic petroleum reserve. I want to talk about small cap stocks now because they've been hit harder than the S&P 500 when you look at the Russell 2000. A lot of folks are saying there's opportunity in value stocks. There's opportunity in small cap stocks. Brad Evans, he does that for a living portfolio manager and senior VP at heartland advisers. Brad, I'd love to get your kind of 30,000 foot overview of kind of how this first 6, 7 months of the year have been for the world where you live in small caps, value, that type of thing, and kind of what's your outlook for the remainder of the year heading into next. Well, Matt and Paul, it's a pleasure to be with you guys today. Thanks again for having me back. I won't really regurgitate what everybody knows value has had a good run in the first half versus growth and that's a carryover from the end of last year. And I think there's an incredible amount of volatility in the marketplace as we all know and I think what makes the current environment very unique is every crisis that we've seen since 1998 is kind of in play today. The Russian ruble default and the long-term capital management crisis of 98, the Asian currency crisis of 98, the tech bubble of O one. Now you're in Paul's wheelchair. The global financial crisis housing bubble that bursts in O 7 O 8. The pigs crisis in 11 and now the COVID black swan of 2020. All those dynamics are actually in play today, which makes the current environment particularly tricky when you overlay it with an environment where there's just a lot of leverage in the system. So this is an environment that I think from a small cap perspective should be good for an active manager versus passives. And should be good versus for value versus growth, but we are in a very, very tricky environment today where it takes a very surgical approach to be able to navigate all the risks that are out there. Well, that's a bummer. I was hoping I could just buy a small cap value ETF and not worry about it. Why do we need to have precision surgical active management? I like to call the small cap indices kind of the landed misfit toys. And the reason I say that is because we have the arbiters of the benchmark, the folks at Russell have created a kind of a unique benchmark Which pay dividends and basically have been falling falling out of favor for reasons that we think are temporary. Brad, how do you do that? It's a huge universe. And I guess you've been at this a long time. The Wall Street Journal recognized you as a category king in small caps. How do you screen for socks? Do you have a whole team? Do you have a special method? What is it? It's just hard work, actually. My partner Andy Fleming and I, we dig through earnings transcripts. We talked to a lot of management teams. It's really rolling up the sleeves doing our own model building and just getting to know management teams and understanding how they are intending to deploy capital because in small caps. Paul and Matt, that's the biggest thing that for us to understand is having a management team that understands the problems that the company is facing and understands the appropriate fix to get the company back to its operating to a normalized operating environment where they're earning an acceptable return on capital. Oftentimes we find these in small companies, they think the path to success is M and a to grow inorganically in that often leads to balance sheet leverage and that usually ends in tears for shareholders. So we want to find companies who are focused on self help that are internally focused have understand the problems they have and are going to deploy free cash flow to in directions that are very shareholder friendly, meaning paying down debt, divesting noncore assets. They might be a drag to their operations and then returning to capital shareholders through dividends and buybacks. All right, Brad, good, good stuff. We appreciate getting your perspective on a part of the market. We should probably talk a little bit more about kind of the small cap. Yeah, we got to get him back on and get some picks. Yes, value stuff. We'll do that. He's based another, this is the second guest I've talked to today from Milwaukee, so I'm telling you. Does it remind you of Laverne and Shirley is just me? No. What do you think of Lenny and squiggy? Sure, who doesn't? I mean, you need to think about Milwaukee Brad Evans portfolio manager, senior VP, heartland advisers, more coming up this is Bloomberg.

"On the market. Breaking market news and inside from Bloomberg experts. Politicians almost always want lower interest rates. The fed's going to keep on fighting. It's the macroeconomic headwinds that are really worrying here. Value continues to break hard. Now people think of cash as being dirty. No one wants to touch it. This is Bloomberg markets. When Paul Sweeney had met Miller. On Bloomberg radio. All right, coming up in this half hour. We're going to take a look at Walmart stocks. That about 9% today we're going to check in with Putin Boyle. She covers all things retail for Bloomberg intelligence at the latest there. Plus Brad Evans, senior VP and portfolio manager at heartland advisers. We're talking about small cap stocks, active values of time to take a look in this market. But first let's go to Greg Jarrett, get a Bloomberg business match Stocks downfall, economic barometer, Walmart as you just indicated took a hit after the surprise cut to its outlook. UPS slumped as package deliveries are down more than expected, the tech heavy NASDAQ is continuing to underperform with giant Microsoft and Google parent Alphabet set to report their numbers after the market closed. Treasury yields are down and the dollar is up. Priya mizra TD securities tells Bloomberg to pressure is on the fed to put on the brakes and the market she thinks she's ready for that. I think the fed may be forced to keep going here, is inflation is still very high in the unemployment rate is still low. So I don't think they're going to signal that they are very close to being done with the hiking cycle. I think that's it's really the forward guidance or the messaging about future hikes that will be focused on. I think this 75 is essentially all priced in. The S&P is down 7 tenths of percent down 27. The Dow's down two tenths of a percent down 62 and the NASDAQ is down 1.3% at a 152. The ten year is up 1230 seconds, the yield is 2.75%. West Texas intermediate crude's up 6 tenths of a percent at 97 27 a barrel while comics gold is down in tenth of a percent. At 1735 60 announced the dollar Ann one 36 58. The Euro a dollar O one 33 in the British ground that dollar 20 51. That is a Bloomberg business flash Bloomberg markets continues now Matt Miller and Paul swim. All right, Greg Jared

"All the standards that mercedes benz has for their fast as g models. Now at the the announcement said that out. An old clinton. If you're gonna offer some clarification. Am g has has worked on the electric motors. the dual the says do electric motors. Right that's right what what exactly is doing to electric motors. They had lunch with them and they asked how their feelings were they. I had no idea no idea. They're coming from the same plan. I mean they just turn up. I mean the juice on the electric motors. I mean we know i mean. Am gm and you can sit down and fiddle with an internal combustion engine. You can change parts you can do the but electric motor is. I mean electric motors pretty much. I agree with you. I mean. I i would really like to know what. Am jesus doing special to these electric motors. They're not gonna let a car. They're not gonna let it car out of the factory that says. Am jeon not handle so they definitely were a part of that But yeah it's pretty much bang on with qa interior. It has seven hundred fifty. One horsepower like the launch control function zero to sixty in three change. And it won't be as fast as a model as plan. I don't know if you really needed to be. This should be on paper at least a good competitor to taikang turbo s. This car is a lot bigger than tycoon. Turbo it's a. It's a big car. So it's it's a lot of car to throw around corners but you know it's cool I think we have a an l. Wwl teepee range of four hundred and like seventy some miles. Yeah that's not be on cars. Yeah we know. That's that's probably going to be lower when you know for united states did mercedes give any sort of taste on what that's gonna be because not that i remember off the top of my head. I don't think the battery capacity is increased. Emma wrong on that i. I don't have that insulin front of me. I just know. I i saw the four seventy mile range and i was like well that that sounds really really good but we know the probably is really generous. I think what knock a hundred off of that. And you're probably in but i mean that'd be the i mean that's still three hundreds of three hundred seventy eight if you knock if you knock one hundred off of that. I mean if you're still talking like three hundred fifty mile range. I mean. I still think that's pretty good i. It's gonna be less than that for what it's worth four car with us with this kind of performance o. I mean it'll charge quickly. It will do all those sorts of things there. Eight hundred volt architecture isn't coming for a few more years than that'll be a big deal for all their cars. But i think that that's a future thing that we don't have just yet. Can we talk about the qb pretty quickly. Because i think it is a pretty quickly. 'cause i'm not certain that it's coming to america. I kinda doubt it. Yeah i think it is didn't Didn't our colleague brad evans right. This up here. Yeah he did on. Let me and. I've got it right here. I got said that yeah. Us sales confirmed it's coming to america the q. a. is the one that's not confirmed yet. My accused is not coming here. That's the one that's been on sale in europe for a few years but this is kind of cool because just i mean i sat in germany. It's a carbon copy of gop car that fricken love Just electrified the interior is the same same size. Mba screen stuff like that. No hyper screen. Nonsense a mess. I mean what do we what do we know. I haven't had much of a chance to look at this. When what do we know about our range off. Because i mean the am g. e. s. is needs And then of course the might have a larger mainstream audience. But i think the qb will be probably the most mainstream of all of these electric offerings right now. So i'm looking at it now. You're getting front and rear electric motors or sixty six point five kilowatt hour lithium ion battery that wwl teepee so again. You've gotta take this number down but in that Estimate four hundred nineteen kilometers. That's two hundred sixty miles so it should be two hundred well. everything. I'm reading including our stories saying about two hundred and fifty two hundred and sixty miles every day. They can do it. I mean i think my problem with the car is none of them. Look as good as their gas counterparts dodge. I think that's a perfect segue. bruce do you have the my back so handy by chance could. Can we talk about that for a second. We can because i've got pulled up here but everyone says it looks bad. Does it looks that bad. It does it. Looks like it's bad it. No okay. So it's like this right. I find it. Looks like one of those prank couple videos where the guy just filled his girlfriend's shampoo bottle with superglue and he's hiding in the other room grinning his ass off about you know over what's about to happen. I mean i mean look at the front of look at the front of this thing. It's bad that's got a lot of face. That's my bod. Version faces the yeah. This is the the mercedes my back e. s. suv that got wrecked crack. So this will come. This is my bach form as a concept will see a non. My balk form aka just iki. Suv next year and then the production car will be on the road. Twenty twenty three the earliest Have a lot of face to face and now think about this for the regular each. Us suv. that's just going to be a giant three point star in the middle. That is way too much face. The my bach grill streaks. Yeah okay you're fully. I mean twenty four inch wheels which could be the first on any production are but i don't know who in the right mind needs twenty four on an electric car. Gotta be range steelers. Yeah that's always bugged me about large wheels. They zap power. They look good. In some instances others not really the interior. It's it's close to. Of course it's going to look nice. You don't have to see the face from in there. I don't know whatever. Whatever i look at that concept i think okay if jim carey ever did another mask movie definitely drive at. This is what he would drive. It is the two tones bad to to turn shouldn't be on. Ekg either for it's where they get a little rambunctious with the two-tone thought. The two-to-one looks classy. I really liked it. I would like to see more with tone as bad. I think if you did a black on silver it would be okay. Black on red is.

"Same top three If breeze comes back tomorrow will be to overcook But the concern of or. I guess the quarterback situation if it stays hill than than kamara will be three three at the highest But mccaffrey cook. Kamara davante adams for henry. Five barkley sex in i. I may move taylor arguments myself. Yep that's the easiest. One i think for me to make that switch is that saquon backed back. Years were health's been an issue. We don't know what the giants are really going to look like next year. The two games that he did play this year. How good was he. not that. Great taylor finish the year strong. We know what he's going to be in this offense moving forward. I think the offense could be better next year in indianapolis. So there's there's people out there who What happened at brad evans. Sent out a tweet saying well. I hope i get jonathan taylor between ten and twelve and round one and i responded to him saying he won't be there and there were. I'd say like maybe thirty five to forty percent of the responses. Like are you crazy. Why would you take him before tenth overall in round one and then there were people who liked the tweeter said. Yeah i can't wait to get my hands on the sky like he's everything you want in a fantasy running back. Save for not a candidate for eighty catches but fifty. I think you can get your fifty. And i think he's gonna score on touchdowns the two things you got to look at. Is what the quarterback situation for the colts because rivers is on a one year deal. You know about the rumors I i don't think they're going to get worse than those two guys unless you just worry about rivers. You're older falling off a cliff and the offense getting completely terrible. The other part of it is. What do they do from a backup perspective. Is it the same cast of characters or do they bring back marlon mack. And then there's a better backup guy there than jordan wilkins. Now it's not going to take at taylor out of the first round but obviously when you're nitpicking between town like barkley and what barclays showing you unhealthy derrick henry Obviously there's a lot of receiving options that you put in that group as well. You know david nar probably a little bit toward the other side of that. But when you start to factor in davante adams and tyreek hill in if you want to start to put the digs decay metcalf in those type receivers which are going to be first round caliber players in pr. That's where i think taylor. May you know lose a little bit. Dr kelsey as well. So this matter. What preferences in with the colts looked like you know.
