"Liverpool in the Champions League, just to remind her how things stand, Real Madrid, 40 to one on to advance. Liverpool, 16 to one, Liverpool, of course, losing today against Bournemouth. They should be fine, should they ally? They should be. They will be, they're gonna be fine, especially Muhammad's allies taking a penalty. They'll be fine. Look, I look at Real Madrid, I don't concern myself with Real Madrid and Champions League and certainly when they have a three goal lead. Today, because of the lack of intensity in the second half that Ancelotti just mentioned in that interview, the truth is that ran Madrid didn't really have to spend a whole lot of energy in the second half. He was allowed to make some changes around the 6 and 65th minute moderate came off, Tony Cruz came off, Benzema, did not play today because they're saving him for the game against Liverpool. So all signs point to the fact that Al Madrid should be dominant at home and should be able to get through, even though Liverpool have improved. I don't think it will be enough and certainly when you think about what we have seen from the Real Madrid in chapter 6 so far, you have to imagine that a similar performance would be too much for Liverpool. After the united game, I was trying to spin it Stevie that maybe a little bit of hope around with your struggling, it's difficult to spin anything but around should win, isn't it? Yeah, absolutely. And I won't buy him what you would try to tell me after the united game. And so after this latest debacle, shall we say? Yes. I mean, Neil, other odds? I mean, yes, there are. I've just shown them. Oh, you did. Yes. I want working. 40 to one. Because there was no point. Because it doesn't matter. It could be a million to one. I'm not looking. I don't look at them. You can put whatever you want. We did have that discussion after the battering of man united. Could is it possible to go there and replicate that? Quality going forward, I think when all things are said and done and haven't seen them today struggle with billings and silent key up front. I'll be thankful to be on the bill and not actually get bottled. Rather than going down three or four, which they need. I'll be going there and not getting embarrassed. Let's not forget that's the team early on in the group stages went to Naples and got absolutely humiliated in Naples. So yeah, I'm not expecting any medical at all. "Currently sit 12th in the table, which you would think would be all right, but look at how incredibly close it is. Obviously we saw leads draw with Brighton today Everton, with a big, big win against Brentford, take some out of the relegation zone. So Hamilton's sitting there at the moment would lead in West Ham. Don, it's so tight down there, isn't it? It's incredible. I've been there myself down and when you're down there, you know, if you can get a win in a draw or even better, back to back wins, you can climb from being popular league up to about 12. And palace are drifting, less draw drifting. I think West Ham were a third might just be fine. I've got a pretty good idea, a honcho is going to go down. I think that's Southampton leads in Bournemouth, but you can't say for sure because the couple of performances are born to put in to give them a little bit of hope because of what they're doing, they're not getting better every week. But this team's drifting, as I said, palace and Leicester worry me, but when you're down there, Dan, if you can Nick a win, if you can Nick a draw and put something together. If you've got like a little block of fixtures and you've got right, let's get a couple of wins in the next four games. You can take you so far up the league in terms of the positions, not in terms of numbers, because it's going to be tight from there to the end of the season. It really is, isn't it? It's going to be a lot of nervous players, managers, fans between now and the end of the campaign. Almost they've almost all changed the manager. But lids have set up in half ever and have. You wonder what's going to happen with the error at the moment? I think you'll be okay. I think the final struggle, as you mentioned, I actually think paulus will be okay. A little bit less. Most of defense. One point off the bomb. Defensively at Leicester have had a shocker and not just today where they could have lost 5 or 6. Could have scored as well. I mean, that a threat going forward, but there are shambles at the bike. And then I'm freefall. I mean, proper freefall knocked out of the cock by championship blackboard. Beating again today, Madison lived off today. Yep. It was actually a bad challenge on Madison, so he looked as if he was struggling, but yeah, you know, I have no idea at the moment. I think Forrest or get dragged back down further than it, that's going to go right to the wire for them. He's going to be chopping and changes his team. He's got so many players to pick from and he's got so many conundrums to try and get to try and get the right team on the field to get the right result just to get them safe and at the moment the struggle and so yeah, maybe up to pilot I think parts will be okay though. "Enough going forward. And I think, you know, when you look at what Liverpool have got, I think they've got man city away Chelsea away and Chelsea at home and you look at what spurs have got and they've got Southampton Everett and Bournemouth. That result today, even though they are inconsistent, makes them favorites for top four. What was the best of a bad bunch, isn't it for that fourth place? When you take a look at how being Stan spurs, of course, sitting there 6 points clearing out of Liverpool. They are favorites to get that last Champions League spot ahead of Jürgen Klopp's side. Yeah, I mean, it's what I said to you. A few months ago, I think they will do enough against the teams in the bottom half of the table. The problem get themselves right, enter that top four, particularly with the other sort of falling away 11 pilgrim consistency. Chelsea had too far behind. Newcastle who played tomorrow because after a little bit tired and they've lost a better sparkle. And I think spas might just do it against those Kenny teams that Don mentioned. They have pretty much been poor in the bigger games. Forest was not great. They did miss a penalty late on forest, but I messed it, but yeah, they are heading towards the relegation fight. That's expected. But yeah, Tottenham will probably end the top four as it looks. I mean, good luck figured in this by the way. I mean, seriously. I mean, and some crazy ways I'm thinking, okay, Liverpool's got Chelsea and they've got city and I'm thinking, well, and then we got this pause and we look at the games they've got and you're like, well, we've got to beat these teams. Right. It's not been working that way. I mean, if I was to Tom if he flicked it around and said Liverpool had those games as possible, we'll never post lost to 5 of the bottom 9 teams this year. So in some stupid way, I'm thinking. In some spots, a number and some crazy way I'm thinking the fact that it supposedly tough games, maybe that made book Liverpool's ideas up. Right. I mean, that's how much on stretch. That's how much I'm stretched. I am, but you're sticking with what you said, yes, they Liverpool top four. No, changing again. Honestly. Good luck. Good luck. "You, it can be difficult, but as Stevie said it was just a really inept performance. I've never seen Nunez look so quiet and what that tells me is when they beat man united 7 last week and obviously lost the game today, it tells me that we should expect this from Liverpool because when the front three are flying and their chaotic in a good way, they can batter anyone. But when they're chaotic and they've got no rhythm and they're not fluid, they can put that type of performance in. What was the gamble done? Harvey Elliott was brilliant last week. He was. Yeah, I just got the feeling Cray because he only made one change from the money that I had, and that was bache coming in fort Jordan Anderson. But I just got the feeling that he went young alongside fabinho and I think it needs because Jürgen Klopp said I think a couple of days ago that Liverpool are like a fragile flower. And I think that's still what they are. And when you put two young kids who don't know the game and they're still learning their trade and they're still learning how to play the game and learn how to play for Liverpool, then you take them into a way ground where they're probably not played too many times there. I would have felt more comfortable if Jordan Henderson and fabinho played then one or the other, either pace or Harvey or the fact that he went with two, maybe the team, the team liners coming in and Bournemouth are thinking he's gambled there and we can get at them. I would have felt more comfortable Van Dyck had a defendant properly. Yeah, what's going on? I would have felt better if Trent Alexander Arnold got a lot of praise last week, even knew there was a player coming in. He stood there. I mean, I'm not saying you can pick two players up because it was two, but he had no idea. Just no idea. I mean, I don't know. I don't look at Liverpool laying up and say, that doesn't say to me, gamble says to me one change from last week. That's all. This is just a bad performance. I've got a Bournemouth, little old Bournemouth, who the absolutely wrecked L in the season. So it was just, this wasn't tin selection. This was just tin performance. It allows penalty. "Welcome in tonight's edition of ESPN FC, I'm Dan Thomas joined by Craig Burley and Stevie Nico as we kick things off in the Premier League. The early game on Saturday gave us quite the surprise as Bournemouth beat Liverpool by one goal to now bellings gold proving to be the difference in 28 minute salon mister penalty properly in the second half, meaning that all the goodwill will the excitement after Liverpool's 7 zero thrashing of Manchester United is dead. Don Hutchinson joins us as well to reflect on this result. We'll start there with you, Stevie, what the heck happened? Do you know what last week we spoke about how good the front three were? They all got a double. Hundreds Rosie, everybody's bike. Well, today they had to do the job and they didn't do it. You know, what was going on behind them, their job was to get them the ball and final thought. And there's 70% of the ball, and they didn't do the job. You have three front men today did not do the job. 15 shots is plenty of shots, by the way. You only get 6 on target, and I'm actually trying to remember if there was a proper sieve, so yeah, to me, this is done at the front man. No, listen, you lose a goal. And actually, the defense every time Bournemouth dead break looked a little wobbly. Yeah. So what we're talking about is a performance that we've seen quite a lot from Liverpool. So the United States is an anomaly. Well, I think if you look at if you look at the big picture, what we saw today is more of an outline of what Liverpool art, as opposed to what we saw last week. So yes, it was a surprise. But the more you think about it, should it have been because we've seen it before this year. In some sense, it made a bigger embarrassment for manure where they capitulated little old Bournemouth, were joint bottom of the table, being strong. All right, a good performance up last week against the arsenal were very unlucky. When arsenal came back in one at the end, but come on, that was embarrassing from Liverpool again, and Steve said, that's kind of the Liverpool we've been accustomed to that year, unfortunately. But yeah, it just shows you how poor man united we have to capitulate in that manner when Bournemouth. Have you turned this into an anti Manchester United conversation? Well, you brought up man united. Yes, because obviously they went into it when it's 7 zero. Yeah, which I'm trying to tell you, the fact that Bournemouth can keep Liverpool and man united, it could have been double figures, tells you how embarrassing their performance was last week. So different narratives, obviously from both sides of Craig mentioned, obviously, arsenal coming from behind to beat Bournemouth, Liverpool thrashing united, you imagine a mentality of both of these teams were being such different places. Yet it was Bournemouth who was stronger across the 90 minutes. Yeah, but therein lies the problem done because I think Liverpool winning 7 last week, they probably thought they were going to waltz

So 21 and 5 days now, again, being so decisive for Jesse march and ladies is just incredible and the atmosphere, everything was just a magnificent day in the end for them where it looked like a nightmare for most of it. This is kind of got a different taste to say the Aston Villa situation. Yeah, yeah and where we kind of saw everything fall apart for Steven Gerrard. In a sense that you can see the players are still playing for the coach here. I think it's a big compliment to Jess in March because you know he is that kind of guy that motivates players. I mean, we've seen people organizations use bots before to do exactly that, but I thought it was really, right? They had that scandal. Yeah, very interesting. Very interesting stuff coming out of PSG. Let's go on great there right now, huh? Yeah, it's a fun place to be. Let's see, I'll tell you what, we'll go ahead, we'll take one more break. We'll come back with some MLS, regular season wrap up, postseason preview, that kind of stuff. So we'll wind it down here on cut off side. Don't go anywhere. "So yeah, today and really since all my life and even earlier than that, the state, the president is from is people really don't care about that. It's not that big of a deal. What they care about are the president's policies and then of course things like their experience, their charisma. But nobody really gives a lot of weight to what state of president is from. Now, can you tell us a little bit more about this? Convention because the federalists are sort of tired with the brush from this coming out of this convention that's maybe not exactly accurate. Yeah, I will. I need to also wrap up. I only listed 5 items, but one of those was actually three different amendments. So yeah, even though I only said 5 things, there were 7 actual amendments. Okay, sorry, I wanted to clarify that. So to answer your question, yeah, it's kind of funny because people used to teach that at least some of the federalists at the convention called for secession from the union, but later scholars have been that I've read. They all agree that they did not call for secession. So the convention itself did not mention secession at all. There were certainly some really hot headed individual federalists who did, but they weren't, they either weren't at the convention or they didn't make an official thing. It wasn't official convention business. However, some Republicans claimed that the convention did call for secession and they used this to tarnish the Federalist Party. So it doesn't really matter. The fact that they did not call for secession didn't matter because the Republicans said they did and most people wanted to believe it. Now, after the close of we'll go back to that in a minute. After the close of the convention on January 8th, 1815, Massachusetts sent three delegates to Washington to lobby for consideration of the proposed amendments. But by the time they arrived, news of Jackson's victory at New Orleans, see you next episode. And of the treaty of Ghent, the next episode after that, I'm kind of giving away some stuff. Anyway, the news of the battle of New Orleans and the treaty of git had arrived and so nothing came of their recommendations. They just really kind of looked kind of silly. And afterward, both the phrase Hartford convention and the phrase Federalist Party became synonymous with disunion, secession and possibly even treason, especially in the south. The Federalist Party was ruined and ceased to be a significant force in national politics. Although in a few places, notably Massachusetts were federalists were elected governor annually until 1823, the Federalist Party did retain some power. Bournemouth writes this, he says, quote, in the end, the Hartford convention was not so significant for what it did, as for what it failed to do. Rally discontent for more than a handful of reactionaries. Now, isn't that ironic Steve? Here we have the Republicans and again, a lot of these Republicans are southerners. So you have a lot of southerners accusing the northerners of secession and treason. Let that sink in for a minute. Is it that isn't that ironic? James here, and now a brief word from our sponsors.

But I think there was a lot of emotion in that forest West Ham game. Being the first game back in the Premier League and truly forest can come themselves a little bit lucky. I don't see lightning striking twice in that regard. This spurs team is just weird to discipline and get the job done. I don't feel so forester anywhere near good enough to go over to the space. We spoke to your grandson yet about forest sees as you concerned. I've actually. Yeah, what's he saying? I don't know what was a little bit. He wasn't making much sense. His grandfather went to the West Ham game. Right. Yeah, it wasn't sure how there were playing next. I think he has gone to the game. But yeah, I agree with Shaq. Finally, Liverpool against Bournemouth, if you want to face aside in, after what happened at Old Trafford, Bournemouth pretty much, take all the boxes. Yeah, I mean Bournemouth have had a horrible run of games. I think they've had to play Manchester City and arsenal and now they've got to go to Anne filbert.

"His period as prime minister? Yes, there is. And I think perhaps principally it was the way in which he applied himself to the vaccine rollout and the need to get vaccines as many people's arms as quickly as possible once those vaccines were available in response to COVID. And don't forget that COVID very nearly killed him, literally, killed him. And the application that he put into that and the drive that he put behind it was extraordinary to behold and was successful. That's not to say that the government's overall handling of the COVID epidemic was successful. It wasn't. But what he did show was when he applies himself and puts all of his energies into a task, he can move mountains and he did move mountains along with his team. So there are things that he achieved and on a purely political level, although I fundamentally disagree with Brexit and believe it was a disaster as policy for the United Kingdom to embark upon. He said that he would get it done. And by his own lights, he did get it done in that. We have left the European Union. The terms of our withdrawal are starting to unravel and people are starting to see the weaknesses in the arguments that he put forward and indeed in the deal that he struck. But at least there was a deal. And just a final very quick question pertaining to Boris Johnson's curiously upbeat semi sort of resignation speech which we heard on Thursday. Do you think there's part of him that thinks that this is sort of a temporary setback that in some shape or form he's not done yet? Well, he's not done yet in terms of the Boris Johnson story. But I think the Boris Johnson story will now go off in a very different direction. He'll probably go back into the journalism stroke commentating stroke entertainment industry and probably make a great deal of money being entertaining and making speeches around the world. If he thinks that his political career can be restored after this, then he's even more naive than I think he is, although he has shown in the past to have a remarkably much higher opinion of himself than anybody else seems to have. Lance price, thank you, as always, that was the former director of communications at number 10 Downing Street Lance price, and you are listening to the foreign desk on monocle 24. This is a special live edition of the foreign desk I'm Andrew Muller. In one 48 hour period earlier this week, more MPs resigned from Boris Johnson's government than had previously resigned from any government of any length in British history. Not among them was Tobias elwood conservative MP4 Bournemouth east, though this was likely because he had no portfolio to relinquish, having long since made his disapproval of the prime minister abundantly clear. Tobias elwood joins me now on the phone. Tobias, first of all, was that your impression that the Chris pincher affair was some sort of actual last straw, or was the sudden flight from Boris Johnson more to do with those recent calamitous by election results. I think it's a combination of both. I think it was that last straw, but it has been a general I think erosion of trust with the British people. And we started way back in November with Owen Patterson, remember that event when we try to change the rules. And there was then a question of style of leadership because of party gates as well. What was going on in number ten? Absence of focus, absence of clarity, absent to discipline as well. And a huge promise to change to reforms actually regroup. But not about actually happened. And the consequence of that is that we ended up with more and more people over time, choosing to actually no longer support the prime minister. I came out earlier. This is back in February that I came out with, but more and more people chose to then join me. We then had a vote of no confidence across not enough people should have been enough ready for any prime minister normally to resign when they didn't feel they had it. It then took the Chris pincher event for people to say right, that's it. I can't defend this anymore. I can't defend the prime minister's behavior. And it's overshadowing as well. And so it's a difficult one to call, but if it goes in there and scores goals, clearly that's a statement easy statement to make they say if he scores goals, they're probably going to stay up and make a name for himself. But I've seen what it's like in teams fighting down near relegation. It's tough. It's tough to create chances. It's tough when you're getting beaten every week. So it's a big move. It's a big movie, a young guy. And it's amazing how many of these young guys from America seem to go to Germany. But most of them got a Germany in flourish and they get a platform it won't play. But he's still young and gone to a team struggling like Augsburg. It's a big ask. Well, he'll be available for older first game of 2022 as the Bundesliga returns to ESPN at the start of the year, August against hoffenheim. All starts on Friday by Munich against a brushi motion glad back. All of these games available on ESPN+. Also on plus, of course, are out the season will be the championship. Bournemouth and Blackburn at the moment are the two teams sitting in those automatic promotional spots. Follow, of course, being very much and versatile second throughout the campaign dropped a third but they do have two games in hand. West Brom meanwhile in fourth and big news regarding West Brom is that they have signed Darrell DK from Orlando. This, of course, a player who made such an impact with Barnsley last year, they'll be hoping that he can put in the same sort of performance. I suppose if you're west Bron Craig, you know he's done it at this level before and we'll be hoping that he can put in a similar shift. While Andy's manager at West Brom was his manager at Barnsley. So he knows them well. That is a real you looked at the top of that. The top 6 or 7 teams and how course they are in the championship and with all the games that they play as a real bonfire that league it's going to be close. And the odd goal here there is going to be the difference so as I say it goes into what with the manager who knows, is scored goals in England before and that's a great opportunity for him because West Brom are definitely going to be in the fight you would imagine all the way to the end, there's some good teams in there that fill them who you mentioned. I've got games in hand. And that could be the difference. So I great.

Which Liverpool Will Show Up Against Chelsea?
"Chelsea Segment Liverpool tomorrow in the FA Cup Chelsea favorites actually To make it through to the quarter-finals proteins of wobbles of late. Which point of view is interesting? Because you'd imagine that they'll both go strong for this. Well I'm not sure I'm not sure. I actually think that someone digital in this area I think Chelsea my ever sneaky Johnson not because Liverpool were very weekend against wofford which to wear but one hole and two. And I'm only surmising here. You might be thinking about putting all these eggs and not jumping sleep boskin. But that's next week. You know that you know you try. And things like that we can mic on. You seem in. This man are vaccinated. I'm not talking about a player but I'm tired. I'm talking key. Players getting injured rights right. So it don't matter if the game is next week or ten days right not the full to lose money for. Minot already lost had this same delusion. Dale Van Dyke so I wonder whether or not he will make some not wholesale. Make quite a few changes for this game thinkin right. Bremer leaked pretty much the bike. Yes he's leak. You need to get you play a shop playing properly. I'm with Craig. I fully understand of you club. Mix Mix mix change it just because I just explained to me what will intend result against Wofford but even though Liverpool have been winning some of their performances have been great as you spoken about over the last couple of weeks or so of hood that you spoke about the last couple of weeks. So you understand if he wants to change things and maybe give some of keeps the rest at the same time Chelsea. I expect them to go strong. They have been all over the last few weeks really cover year on. Does he give give kept our roads and maybe figure things out with John so I I think this is a big game for Chelsea on you. See that brutally lineups probably result don. I totally agree with shocker. I cannot see Liverpool plains. Strong team looked at a team. They played against shoes being the last round and it was full of teenagers. Harvey Elliott played at Sixteen Chiro. Vela eighteen the oldest player was twenty one. So I can't imagine many of you have big hitters planning this because it's Craig said before you pick up an injury now and even though the chums league is approximately ten days away. You got no chance recovering so you don't play them now you don't play them against former Earth truly you need. I don't think sharpness I think played enough. Games is enough games in their legs to suggest that they are shot. I mean if anything I feel a little bit jaded. I thought you saw that in the performance against Wofford so I think you'll go pretty strong against Balmer. But even then he can rescue strong against former which is closest to the Atlanta game and getting doesn't matter at all I don't of the Premier League's the holy grail formulaic. It's funneling well. We we know the one the primly but young couple still want to get back on the horse of lost one game against Wofford and eastward in the press today saying good teams. Don't lose to the spin so that suggests to me that you know will will play people Adam Alana if he's in one or two others but it I guarantee you it'll be a very very young side against Chelsea then it'll be semi strong against Bournemouth and then he's full-strength side again southbound after the hostages. He can't take any chances. If if Monay for me no you know Van Dyke Allison if any of those pickup injuries in the next couple of games. I mean you'd have to say. The chances of them go through would be slim as the explanation. Divide combine any of them three three x pros plausible explanations of how the changes against Chelsea and make more changes against Baltimore in the League and then he hoped he put his strongest against us led to Madrid. Right that's not rocket science right just because you go there and play all his best players. Don't think Liverpool team right. We'll look at it and go while I think we'll look at it and it will be very much a hybrid. I'll be surprised if not rutland on prediction. I think Chelsea win because I said before the two sides the team in the manager that needs the result. Moawad it's frankly been on a desperate Ron. I come and tight on their game in the beginning against Balmer. They were lucky to get a draw. Fill scored a very company. Easy Chances. Zeljan would've got beaten the game so then not in great form so I would imagine frank logo really really strong and I think young young. Nothing the home side win for the reasons I mentioned. We'll have with changes which I think will come and Chelsea being at home and played some good stuff at home. I'm going to go for that reason. Jesse thanks very much
