"Come from that background and then all of a sudden. You're like if you're in the same place every time you like I hate the sheet I wish they had real sheets. I wish they had like a real pillow. I wish they had like a real bed. You guys saw the better. They're very comfortable beds, so like pretty much everything that I hated about hotel I'm like if I could take this. And then you know, have people come and visit and create relationships with them? It'll sell itself and it Kinda just evolved into that thing that. It allows you to be more comfortable. It creates a better product, and if you do it the right way, it just kind evolves into something that you can continue to move onto if you want to or just keep it at whatever level you want. Do you keep the same bar soap? No. Not at least we take care. There's a lot there's a there's a lot more involved, but it's just providing an alternative experience for travelers, and in the Bourbon Industry at found hosting like. Different barrel clubs and stuff there's real. A lot of people know each other over the internet or whatever, but whenever you have a space where everybody can interact and as well as sleep and stay together, and it just creates a much better experience especially whenever you're you though some bourbon in the mix absolutely in before we kind of frame the discussion here before we get into it, you know. Know when you talk about the barrel clubs what we're standing in what we're sitting here right now is like one of the most perfect opportune places, because if we always talk about this to you know. We talked about the Guys Department Community Roundtable we get together. We call each other Internet friends right in. It's usually one of our houses, but our houses. Art. Nice big spaces like this, and so when you can fit I, mean Gosh Wha-. What do you think the most people that you fit in here from Bourbon? Club just like people hanging out and gathering and stuff like that. You could easily do forty see. It's amazing and. You can't even see it on camera, but if you were here like there's a whole second floor, the whole nother sitting area. It's truly immaculate, so we'll. We'll talk about a little bit later, but how you can get in contact with their to the book it. Is I mean and the artwork in here the Macula you've got if you're a fan of birds or like nature and and horse racing, there's all these vintage paintings and drawings or go porcelain decanters here. The Wood floors is partially originally from the House the beams here. This is just a beautiful restored. saved old home are actually used to be a bookstore. I used to come in here in and buy books and take us through the process of kind of what you did because I know. We have a lot of like geeks who liked to redo their basements or they like to. Fix Up their bars I. Bet you there's a tip or two. You might have because you're. You're an engineer smart guy. Thanks, appreciate it I try. But, basically like you said it was an old bookstore it was built. I think around nineteen, hundred, nineteen, fifteen around then, and we tried to restore much as we could, but you know there's a lot of things that to bring it up to. Where would be a a building? Wiring. To put you in perspective. This house actually had gas pipes ran through the house. Because that was the lighting system, the original lighting system there wasn't even electric. Basically natural gas. If the IT's like dangerous. Yeah, it was, there was a lot of work involved in it, but it. Basically he had decided to move on from own bookstore he retired, and so we just felt as a great opportunity here on Bardstown road where you can be around all the great restaurants and I'm not trying to build like fifty storey hotel. I just want something that feels authentic that you can walk to go. The restaurants have a drink at the bar and be back in five minutes. Minutes so it's it's A. It's a great opportunity that we thought it would be a great location. I mean you are in the thick of it here. That's that's for sure. Great location really is all right, so let's go ahead. Let's start framing really what this this. I really the topic of today so I'm to kind of take this idea, and maybe like what we like when we say we go to Vegas. Where like okay like three days in Vegas? That's the perfect amount five days maybe too many two days. Maybe not enough now going to the Bourbon trail and people are coming in from out of town. What are you all really think is like the the prime number. What should people really be looking at you know? Is it like a two day or three? Day is four days too much like when you're coming in the Bourbon trail. What's what's a good number that people should be targeting? The question. Is like how good is your liver? and. What kind of company are you around? That's all excellent points when it comes to family. What is it like three family and fish after three days? It gets a little a little smelly so. Yeah My experience has been If you're a corporate person, it's attack on to something that.

"Week. Cheers. Him Back to that the soda per the official, podcast of Bourbon Fred and Ryan here not in our usual recording studio. We are somewhere new tonight which. Very Awesome Awesome Little House for rain here, not even little house it's pretty. Out here though Ryan. He's really missing out on this one. Yeah I. It's a shame because he such notch poor. This is a story of. A building something from nothing quite literally and I. I wish he was here. I know I know well. You know we'll. We'll have plenty of good lively discussion without him. And you know really the focus on the topic of today is to really talk about the ultimate Bourbon trail. Experience like were. Should you stay? Where should you eat? What places can you go if you're GonNa Start Planning this like? How do you figure out like what area the city you hit? Can you hit them on the same exact time and you know we've got a our guest today. He's A. He's a AIRBNB super. Ho, so that means that he's had and while. While let them. Do you know kind of sense reduction? We were kind of talking about before, but he hosts tons and tons of Bourbon groups in here, and he kinda really found a niche market near, so people ask them all the time of you know. Where where should we go? And where should we tour and all that sort of stuff so I think we're going to? We're going probably be enlightened a little bit ourselves and I think what's important to note here that this is not this guest Erik has not somebody who is. does looking for your dollar now. He someone who's actually passionate about this. He's a member of the community. I, mean we. He supports people and Patriot who are in the community, support, department, enthusiast, or toss fact we walk in. And what's he doing? He's like. Hey, you WANNA. You WanNa try this This little bit of smoke wagon is the the infamous bourbon enthusiast barrel. Yeah, I honestly I didn't think I was ever going to get the taste this so I was very excited. It's it is a treat and you know. It's amazing that the I I always I always find it amazing. There's a ton of 'EM GP is out there and now smoke wagons, just blowing up all over the place. So you know hats off to them that they they kind of had some foresight to buy a lot of good age product at the same time I always I always go back packaging. That is cool bottle. That's very unique. It's got. It's got some. some vines and everything, and it's like in the glass, so that's That's not a cheap investment in the glass right there. The whiskey matches the bottle win. Win there you, so this was. This is first thing. He offered me when I walked in. And so you know it's good day. Like our guests. Gave gave us good whiskey. So. Let's go ahead. Introduce them today. On the show. We have Eric. Carrico Eric is a bourbon airbnb super host, so welcome to the show man. Thank you Kenny I appreciate. You have me on the show and appreciate the kind words I i. want you know that? That bottles called Karma so maybe this is all just Karma that we're all here. I don't know but Yeah, it's been. It's been a good bottle so far and. Appreciate everybody in the Patriot community and I enjoy hosting people for Arby's and I guess that's kind of where I want to start to is like. How did you get involved with figuring out like AIRBNB, and then? How did that pivot to the point where you said like? Oh, my gosh like there's a lot of people that here for Urban. well, you know back in two thousand thirteen. We are in transition between a few homes and our two homes, and we put a lot of work in money into both of them and so we started hosting. Guests coming in, and then we realized that about half of them were here for AIRBNB. or were booking through AIRBNB or here for short term rentals to go visit. Bourbon distilleries in Bourbon places, so you know interacting with them developing relationships. We just kind of kicked it off as you know hey. Look more into this, and so I think today we've hosted about four thousand guests allow four thousand. Yes, quite a number. Yeah, yeah, so probably between one and two thousand of them. Were just you know here for Bourbon travel experiences and IT ties into a lot of if you look at Louisville in general I think they said that a economic impact of within Kentucky's about four billion dollars. Yeah I think that's probably we don't even think of like the the whole we I mean. We think of hotels. We think of stuff like that, but I mean like not to that amount of scale usually when we get stuff that's coming from the Katie A. it like. Hey, we had this many visitors. You know it did this this many distilleries, but we don't actually see the impact that it's happening. Economically around the city with restaurants and hotels and everything like that, too sometimes. Some pretty fortunate I'm sitting. I'm on the the mayor's committee about of course you are. On this committee of like Basically Birmingham two point Oh, and you know I, I've seen what Bourbon has done Bourbon and beyond. And, like when there's something here that Bourbon related the hotel out, and that's tax dollars to that comes to stuff. I am a longtime fan of of hotels. We were talking earlier. You were a Marriott guy. You love those Mary up points. Yeah, so what talked to me about like the actual like the differences between like AIRBNB and hotels? Because Hey, get this key I've never actually staying in their being. Before never have? My jaw dropped a little bit. In fact! The people may get a kick out of this, but I tried it one time. And the guy refused to let me stay place. Profile. Ascott. Can't be this guy. This guy from the nineteenth. Kinda profile pictures. Yeah, so I was in the construction industry and you know on the road probably eight. Eighty percent of the time and pretty soon hotel rooms all become the same, and so when you..

"Let's CNN website called historic day. We're living history right here Sunday. We'll be this very whatever the data's late September something. So anyway, I'm not sure how much of that. We're going to be covering live. Pitches remains to be seen. Round yesterday. Keeping you abreast the events as they unfold. And of course, you had the most recent allegation, which is ridiculous. How many women keep going to the same parties known as a train weekend and week out? So anyway, a lot of that we'll get to later in the course of the show. And then of course, the last hours going to be tied up largely in that. So we'll story here on the lighter side coming next year next October twenty nineteen they're going to finally have a bourbon festival, which will take up much of Covington and Newport, and it'll be October fourth and fifth of next year because Kentucky rebels in the bourbon and other than say the derby and whatnot. They don't really have a a key event. Not that Ohio does either. I wrecked my brain on that. But. Roebling reserve bourbon is out in organizers have announced a bourbon Centric event for next fall. The former chair of the chamber of commerce Kevin cana- fix said a new event of the chamber's annual dinner. He announced it there's no the Kentucky doesn't have a signature event that reflects Kentucky. So they're going to do it. It's going to be named the official gateway of the Kentucky bourbon trail. Well, the Kentucky Diller's distillers association. Of course, conduct is kind of known for bourbon. So we're gonna have all these bourbons around the ideas, we'll be outdoor music. It'll all be free. The music itself. It will not be a typical outdoor event they say the idea is to get people into the bars and businesses not siphoning them away. But there will be outdoor and indoor stages, so I'm sure bourbon out the wazoo restaurants. Well, no, the guitar key will have tastings and pairings the Kentucky artisan market shopping opportunities. And of course, keynote speakers who doesn't go to a bourbon and some people will bourbon festivals. Here keynote speakers. But it is one of the bourbon trail is something people do come from around the world to do and. In some cases, not just something to do because they happen to be here. Already the we'll travel here from afar just to do the bourbon trail, and of course, I live right here. And I haven't bothered to do the bourbon trail one of these days that might happen. But it hasn't happened yet. Sipping bourbon and driving doesn't make a lot of sense to me. And I don't think it ever will. That'd be big next year. The. Fourth and fifth of October twenty nineteen right? It is nine after got a forecast here. It's keep putting off the day. The sun's gonna come out for another day. Although we did get it late yesterday afternoon. But it ain't gonna happen today with a slight chance of showers, and we get details in a minute. So hold on. After.

"When I came into office. We were still at the end of the great recession. So we had very limited budgets at that point in time working together with the council, we've increased the budgets for rose up to about eighteen million dollars a year. And that's why as you travel around the city, you see roads being paved almost everywhere certainly with all the construction downtown people talk about that by the end of this paving season, you'll see most of downtown being repaved again. So we've had a huge increase of about nine times since I came into the office with the original recession budget, the long term transportation plan for the city has guided by document called move Louisville. That's available online for anybody to see the priority of the move. Louisville plan is what we call fix it. I we don't need new roads until we fix what we have. So you can go on there, and you can see our plans for when you wrote is going to be paved. And then new roads were redoing Dixie highway right now, of course, the Ohio river bridges project was completed river road is going to be extended west from seventh to fifteenth. Th street. So we have to be right by the new waterfront park phase four. So it's all online you can check it out. Benny by your question to mayor Fisher. Yes. Fisher a lot of people are very interested in hearing about the bourbon trail and some of the excitement that's going on downtown with that. But there are still people in our community who live in what call food desserts. We don't hear that much about it anymore. You know, the terminology of the food Deb's people cannot drink bourbon. So I mean cannot eat bourbon. But so we want to I want to know what is your plan to try to bring more food to people who live in certain parts of towns that don't have it and tied to that is that was a recent report about section eight, for example, people living in basically firetraps that have been approved by city for section eight housing. I don't know if that'd be put was overblown overdrawn. But could you address those issues is I think everybody's excited about the bourbon trail. But people just want to eat too. And they don't have the ability to get food at any time of night. Like I can. Well, obviously, poverty is destructive to all of us and food is the essential element. So many things in our country right now because of defunding at the national level just can't take for granted anymore. It could be food security could be housing security could be universal healthcare wherever virus seats helped healthcare. We find what's taking place in the grocery business right now is that the large groceries providers are are going to fewer larger stores, and that means that they're shutting down the small the some of the smaller stores. It used to be the neighborhood Bodega is that a lot of people would go to for their own foods. So that is a problem that we are working with the companies to say, hey, it's not fair for you to have great business at one part of our city. But then another part of our city where maybe our people don't have as much money to spend for you not to have the type of coverage there. So we've had. Some very difficult and direct conversations with those companies, thankfully, they are working on some solutions that I hope we'll be able to announce in the not too distant future. In the meantime, we are blessed to have one of the country's greatest food banks in our country with dare to care. So you'll see some more progress with them partnering throughout our city. But frankly, I think that's pretty sad that here in the United States of America. We call ourselves the richest country in the world. But a lot of our citizens. Don't have the basic necessities of food and shelter. On the section eight question, Betty, if anybody's living on fire trap, obviously that's a problem for somebody in should not be permitted surprise me. If the housing authority is allowing that to take place, but I will take that with me after this and see where we're at. That's obviously, not allowable rebuttal from councilman Lee. Thank.

"As we move forward in the industry yeah i like some of the flavors i like when you find wine that pairs really well with the food like there's a magical thing that happens there you know it's the same with beer i think i i like that and like i'm probably the guy who does that with bourbon as i was dragged on the bourbon trail a couple years ago so i can tell you the five rules of bourbon making and so i i'm not i'm not that worried about those people i think the thing about wine and probably is the more you consume of it the more tolerable the expert in the crowd becomes half i think perhaps also you might have been the guy back in the nineteen thirties said you know i will never enjoy lots of why this is illegal it's not good for you i hope someday that we can drag you along and make you a a cannabis connoisseur i was never that guy i was never that guy but here's another question since it's becoming recreational marijuana becoming legal and you're talking about people in i don't know responsible normal adult sounding jobs coming out of the closet is pot smokers are companies still going to be able to drug test their employees for pot once it's legal they will and look i think that the key aspect of drug testing is testing for intoxication you're not allowed to be intoxicated work period so you can't come to work drunk you can't come to work high on on prescription medications you can't come to work intoxicated or impaired by cannabis the complication with cannabis comes in in that it stays in your system for longer than it intoxicate you so if you might smoke a joint on a monday night on a wednesday morning you might still have trace amounts of cannabis that would fail you want wanna drug test.

"And then i realized that's really it's pretty small and it's just about the bourbon trail and school in louisville in lexington live in the middle of this constant rivalry about basketball programs i mean it's it's really a way of life that that influences that entire region so this is a huge smack in that sense i understand that it's a vacated title and most of us will arise to that but the fact is a banner will come down from the rafters and be changed in the new banner that will go up will not have their championship on and while today that may not be a huge impact in ten years when you know little kids are the arena for the first time and they look up and they think about national championships they won't obscene the he's that the history they won't have recent see it will be significant yeah and sarah spain jason fitted spain and fits on espn radio i'm this is the beginning right for level this is this is a punishment for those issues that relate to that sex scandal but back in september the fbi arrested ten men including four assistant coaches from across the country after a threeyear investigation into corruption in basketball in louisville as part of that and including allegations that touch that school and that seems to be based on all the reporting being done across the sp and announce where that that's just the tip of the iceberg for what could be massive changes to basketball because of that investigation so this is just like the appetizer for what could be an even bigger issue for the school will in to that point i think a bigger issue across college basketball i mean it's some point what we're going to see in the next year and eighteen months as more reports start to come out from the fbi investigations is is corruption across the the format and then you're going to.
