Bill Deger AccuWeather meteorologist. He should be here any moment. Hey, there you go Bill. How are you? I we're having some microphone issues. Oh, heavy microphone issues. Yeah. But I think we're okay now. Okay. I had writer's block almost for like, forty minutes. But now, it's cleared up. That's good. Yeah. All right. A right to your your memoirs, I'm fine. Now, everything is going smooth. But the forecast what about that is that's mood or one the forecast looking pretty good for today. Definitely improvement over yesterday. We had some rain and plenty of clouds yesterday. It was a cool day. We'll be another cool day today, albeit a few degrees warmer up to fifty nine with times of clouds and sun, dealing with some clouds right now, but also some sunshine peeking through and I think we'll see more as we head into the late morning and afternoon tonight down to forty one partly cloudy with showers return tomorrow, high fifty nine cooler on Tuesday, though, sunshine, fifty two showers Wednesday fifty one with another cold front moving through behind that only forty three for a high on Thursday with partly sunny skies. But let's enjoy today near sixty with partly sunny skies. Wow. Yeah. That's pretty good. A pretty nice day today. This is this pretty seasonal seasonable for this time of the our normal high is about sixty right now, of course, who've been way above that the last couple of weeks came back. Down to earth last few days pretty close to normal today. And tomorrow, I saw some of the stores are putting all their Christmas decorations up. They are right to it's funny right next to the Halloween stuff. At the same time. I think. Yeah. Before they put the Halloween. All right Bill. Thanks. We'll check back with you. All right. So thank you Bill. Deger. Accuweather meteorologist into by writer's. Block is cleared up Zac. And again, we're asking people not to go to the weekend morning blog. Because of the fact that there was an old Walker here, the probably serve somebody very well years ago and walkers do they do provide a great service people rehabbing for all kinds of stuff really are wonderful. But this was an old one the station was throwing out, and what happened was somebody put into sign on it saying if found returned to Joe Gallagher, so everybody in the station. I don't know how many people work here. A lot of them. Right. More than just us. Yeah. And they see that during the week if somebody did that during the week or everybody saw that. So I come in here yesterday morning health center. Whoa. What is that? So the now the picture on the blog the weekend morning blog, which you don't have to see you don't need to see that. Okay. But if you did want to see it, you can go to Facebook and CNN. Well, I don't know what happened somebody posted on Facebook shouldn't be on Facebook. I tried to take down. But for some reason to delete buttons, not working. So the the Walker is on Facebook with the scientists found please turn to Joe Gallagher. It is. Conspiracy buddy here in the building during the week. I think I know who it is. I'm almost positive, but I don't wanna say until I have all my facts. Okay. Once I get all my facts. Let's just say I think the first name starts with an r r. Well, there's a couple of hours. Okay. Ours ours ours ours, but they we go through the list of ours. And I'll tell you upper I won't say, whether it's a male or female, but I will give you the first initial of their gender f. That still doesn't really narrow down for the first name. I think is our and then the gender is f-. Okay. And let's just say possibly I can tell you who they work with. But still doesn't narrow down. They work with a person whose name starts with C and a person who starts with k they're still to ours. That are both still mass ability could be several people. I don't want to narrow it down. But doing that. And then have everybody in the station. See it, and it's quite possible. They might have had something to do with that clock as well says ten or one of their overnight calling out any names are not going to do that is that we're not gonna get all our evidence for above that. Yeah, we're above that. So our f-. And there you have it. Okay. That's it for now. We'll take some more later on that investigation work. "I'm Ryan Boucher. And I'll be your host today on a rather crisp fall day, at least it's dry out there. But certainly a good day to sit in and listen to the show or wash them sports should be some good sports on today as well. But appreciate you tuning in your longtime listener or new to the program. I am a certified financial planner and CPA with Boucher financial group. And it's a pleasure to be here. Today. We have a busy show a lot going on, and you know in the markets and just the economy in Washington. I mean just a lot to get into today. So let's jump into it for the listeners out there that you have financial questions we encourage you to give us a call. Always remember if you have questions more times than not someone else has probably similar. As you. So give us a call. You can reach us at one eight hundred talk WGN, y that's one eight hundred eight two five five nine four nine. And I said there's a lot to to jump into today. And a lot to talk about. It's always a good thing with with the radio show, especially when you have a busy week in the the markets and in the news because it's a lot to talk about with a couple of the weekends. We get preempted for Syracuse football. I think last weekend was one of those, you know, it's good to be back in here to to go through these issues and in these topics so let's get into obviously the stock market. We sort of had a an up and down week in the markets, really led by by some, you know. Negative finish between Thursday and Friday. Stocks are off off of their highs in did pretty poorly last two days to close out the week. So we'll jump into that. And talk about what's impacting stocks while we should be looking at. And what are the main drivers of of some of the weakness to close out the week? Look at the US economy. Let's get in. I mean, yesterday's jobs report came out. All didn't meet expectations. I guess for the month of September. But overall in a lot of positives there, you know, we've we've seen with the unemployment rate going down lowest unemployment rate since the late nineteen sixties. So pretty pretty far back in our economy is humming along right now. So we'll get into that and sort of tie in how jobs report in some of the data. That's coming out. There is impacting stocks and impacting people's outlook says to what they see coming down the road talk a little bit about the US bond market. I'm sure if you're a diversified investor out there, if you are maybe a retiree or have an allocation to bonds, it's been a tough year in in that part of your portfolio in a tough week when you look at how how bad with. The rising interest rates affects your your bond portfolio. We saw week and a half ago last Wednesday, the fed came out and downst- increased interest rates, and then this week if you're if you're following the ten year treasury note, which is a pretty good indicator in terms of the overall interest rate environment for our country. We saw a pretty sharp increase in in the US treasury note rate up to over three point two percent. So we'll get into how that's impact in the market, and what's really driving that we're getting some other things that that I saw on the news or making headlines this week. You know, GE Monday, huge news at GE moving on from there. CEO John Flannery O after only fourteen months that was a pretty quick change. But we'll see how that impacts. And I know GE is a company that that makes a lot of headlines locally, obviously for you know, it's it's all whereas founded headquartered in instill number of workers for GE so locally here. So that that has a big impact in in a lot of folks follow that we had again, this feels like it was a long time ago is over the weekend, but we had some breakthroughs with trade agreements. And negotiating some some deals with Mexico Canada. So that's good news on on the economic front and good news for I think investors as a whole I think that that really propelled stocks earlier in the week. It's sort of a forgot about it with with how the weekend, but certainly a positive impact or on the weekend. We'll talk a little bit about what's going on trade and tariffs in overall. A little bit about we'll we'll get into the stock market in the swings and sort of had the sectors are playing a role here. And in what we're seeing their international equities. If again, if you're diversified.

Gina Cervetti, Bloomberg radio. It is sunny and forty eight at eight forty seven. Well, the market has been crazy lately. Crazy good. In fact, we're bringing in an expert now who knows all about an Andy Smith. He's co host of investing sense. You hear it every Saturday morning here. W G Y ten AM Andy how you doing? Hey, good morning guys. How are you? Good. So this market. I mean a lot of times they stay September October bad time for the market. But it's been really good. It's been great. And then this is the first time in a long time. We're where we've seen this type of of market action coming into the midterm season. So, you know. Yeah. There was a couple of blips during the summer. The the beginning of the year wasn't all that great. But you you look at the economic tailwinds that are behind us right now jobs are solid. The market is solid. You know, this is just an incredible time to be an investor right now. But you know, I think a lot of people are just waiting for the other shoe to drop because we know it can't last forever because everything cyclical no everything is cyclical. But the thing that I tell listeners is that nothing is as good or as bad as either side wants you to believe. So when I when when we look at the markets, and we talk about these economic. Tailwinds we're not pollyannas. And we're not thinking that you know, at some point. We're just gonna stick our head in the sand. And pretend like, you know, bear markets don't exist or volatility doesn't exist. But you have to realize that there's so much coming at us right now with, you know, twenty four seven news headlines and people wake up looking on social media thinking that they gotta find some trade for the day. It's not as bad as as you think. Yes, things will turn. But at that point, you know, it's just going to be a completely different stock market. Yeah. And it's interesting. I mean, kinda the dilemmas that people who have been on the sidelines now they're afraid to get in. But a lot of people who've been on the sidelines. They've been missing out and one of the things that I tell people is that at some point you have to forget about the past market highs. What we're seeing right now. It's fantastic. I love seeing green. I love to see in the market what it's doing. But you always have to invest for the future. So if I tell listeners if you think that the market is going to be higher in the future you have to invest now. But you have to do it in a way that's intelligent for you. That's personalized for you. And a lot of times it just means sitting down with somebody having a plan and working that plan. No matter what the market is coming at us. I'm a big believer that you have to have somebody with a lot more knowledge in you help you out through all this landscape is very complicated. And to that end like for people who maybe don't have a financial adviser. You guys gotta you gotta deal for them. We yeah, we do over the weekend. We had we have a limited time offer for for a free portfolio review. And I want to offer your listeners the same thing. So get out to investing sense dot com. Click get started do it by ten pm tonight because we're taking it down at that point. But you talk about working with a professional you talk about having a plan. This is the first step for that. I think for a lot of people though, it's like invest it. And forget it. So I have money taken out of my check. I have no idea. What goes so? I mean, it's a good idea to have that checks and balances in place have a fresh set of eyes on it someone who knows what they're doing. Oh, absolutely. And so when you sit down when you go to investingsense dot com. You know, you'll you'll get to talk with our team you'll get so, you know, we'll look at your current investments. We'll see what you're doing right now. A lot of times. That's the first time that anybody has ever sat down with these people to to look at everything social security plans healthcare plans debt, income savings what you're doing in your 4._0._1._K or IRA. But when you walk away you'll have a written set of instructions that financial plan that I was talking about. So that no matter what comes at us here in the markets. You have some sort of instructions that you can go back to Beit investing or saving or debt-management whatever it is. But there's a lot of help for you there investingsense dot com. And I know you got a good local presence with Mike Moore Ganci in Albany to. Oh, he's great. You know, solid Gouda. You know, if I wasn't doing this sixty seventy eighty eighty hours a week, Mike. Colleague how many Wagner to get your. CFP if you just take a quick minute and kinda. Give us an update how that's going and. Let us, know. What the CFP is yes so that's a. Certified, financial. Planner It's a year long process where you. Take up to five courses of retirement estate. Planning investments. Fundamentals insurance. And. You also, do a capsule in course where that you present a financial plan to the board so really in caps encapsulates. Everything. That has to do with financial planning and right at the end of, that when you finish up all year long course you. Sit for tasks that is a hundred. And seventy seven our rigorous exam that is coming up in November so it's right, around the corner, so pretty excited about it a, little bit nervous but a lot of things going on in the background so I'll be prepared predict cited about that that's great that's. Great Apollo and again our other colleague harmony Wagner's pretty much right there with. You going to be taken examined in November as well right and I know I think both you wrap wrapping up your capstone course. So. That's fantastic and for any listeners From, our perspective is a firm before we'll have anybody said. Even as a junior adviser we want them to have their CFP so as Paul was mentioning there's a three year experience requirement in order to be a CFP there's the educational component and then you have to pass, that exam which I believe it's around us sixty. Percent pass rate that's that's correct. Yeah so it's pretty pretty rigorous you know from, my perspective when I came into the industry I was. In corporate finance and telecom for about twelve. Years when. I graduated. From. Grad school, down in DC and then I I went to Georgetown and I took my executive certificate in financial planning and. Then. I took the exam that November and it was it was it was, strenuous you had. A really apply yourself A lot of hours studying and You know it's not it's, not an easy one to pass but I think, from our perspective is a firm we want to make sure that when, someone's sitting with a client, again even as a junior planner that they had that level of knowledge. To be able to, answer questions and we always say, we don't have all the answers but I think what happens is once you at least pass that exam and you got your c._f._p. if you don't have the answers obviously we always have a senior advisor sitting in the meeting so usually with our experience we do but it's able you're able to find that information to and that's you know when you're doing the research it's not always clear depending on what topic you're looking into as to what the answer is but you know it's it's basically taking all those steps together that to me makes our firm one of the better firms which is you know it's knowledge it's experience and it's putting in the time to get those designations that at a lot of value to our clients so so it's great to have you here paulo so yeah so as mentioned on the top of the show lots to discuss i think right off the bat of course we have to talk about the markets and boy it's just it's great to see them hitting all time highs really is our firms been pretty optima Mystic. As far as the economy in the markets I will say that that's, been the case since I've joined six years ago we'd been really optimistic Positioning portfolios and that has really been advantageous to our clients and you know. We do a, lot of, research and due diligence on our positioning and our thoughts in, that regard and, you know I'll say just seeing it from our conversations I have with other advisers and you know we get it from some newsletters that are shared. With us, that that's not, that hasn't been the case with a lot of other firms are advisers they've actually I remember some I being cautious back in two thousand, twelve and and, not being avoi- in. Equities are actually, being overweight and, cash or overweight in bonds and you know that's been six years so you know, as a firm we've been of weight in equities for quite. Some time and, we overweight US equities and it has really been advantageous. To our to our clients and you know. It doesn't mean that will always, be of that mindset You know as his bull market ages You know we may, repositioned the portfolios to be more defensive but the big element with this and we stress this all the time. Is is being a long term investor and if you're a long term, investor and you understand how, you're invested make sure you're well diversified and we do, that using exchange traded funds, were ATF's and I think we see I see with all the clients all the time that you, know when they're doing on their own they tend to be more conservative because they just don't have. Confidence in their ability to. Make decisions emotions overtake their decision making and then, when they come on as clients Vars they'll. Start off at a particular risk tolerance but over time they'll feel more comfortable with what it means to be a long term investor and though actually. Kind of move up their risk tolerance and, you know what I always, say is you know anything in life there's this. Needs? To be a sense, of balance. Right and I think that's that's important but I do feel that, if you're, long term investor and you Can stomach any. Of the volatility and have cash available for any liquidity purposes you over, time are better off having, a large allocation to equity and what that how you, define that larger allocation equity, it's a personal decision right and so that's not one-size-fits-all and we believe that very strongly with our, clients but I think again if you're an educated investor and that's one thing we try to do. With our clients is is. Educate them as to okay if you're in that, allocation let's say at growth and income of. Sixty forty what does that mean to you as far as growth opportunities over time and what does that mean to you as far as downside risk. And again our goal is to make sure, that they understand that and. That they understand that there's going to be short-term. Volatility? In what we say, is that. Volatility can be for day or week month or even a year But if you're well diversified you know that the markets will come back and the other thing we always say too is you know if you're going to be invested in equities you have to have a sense of Optimism and a sense of a, support for the US economy and capitalism There's some some folks that I talked with them. Like I don't know, if you could be a good. Longterm equity investor you, just to pessimistic, you're always thinking the sky's falling and when the sky there's some volatility there's a really. Good chance you're going to pull, out and sell at the worst time and and I say, this particular if, they're trying to manage the per folding on their own and you know you gotta have, a sense of some sort of. Support for the us economy and again and we talk. About Warren Buffett, I think he's probably one of the best long-term investors and you know you hear him, talk and he is a big believer. In the, US economy always says do not count out, the US economy you know we may have stumbling. Blocks here and there but we will find a way to come back so I think that's really important to take that to heat and. And utilize that and kind of implement that in your own personal situation but, we're going to continue, our discussion as we come back from commercial break but you're listening to.

"Welcome back folks for those of you who are just joining us my name is martin shields a certified financial planner and wealth manager at boucher financial group and i'm sitting in for my colleague steven boucher who is i'm hoping he's on the boat right now up in late george enjoying this amazing day i'm telling you this is it you know it's we live i think we live in a great area whether wise because we have no hurricanes we have no tornados no lava flows no earthquakes i mean i know sometimes people get down in this area for some of the logger winners but it's the best but has time when you get to the summer you get days like this especially after a long winter it doesn't get any better it is quite amazing so folks we're going to go to the phone lines we've got dan danny there yes i am how you doing today dan guard good how are you i'm doing well what can i help you with okay just a quick question for you asked a question then i'll hang up and listen for the answer sounds good recently retired sixty four years old congratulations have a substantial you know to ira accounts in the upper six six figures okay great yeah my wife and i are contemplating buying a winter home in florida somewhere you know three hundred thousand three hundred fifty range and we're not sure if we should withdraw money out of the iras or a portion of the new home take a portion of the ira's i'll hang up and listen for your recommendation before you go so so what's the what's the value on the potentially home we're planning on spending between three hundred three hundred and fifty thousand on the new home okay and as far as assets that you could put towards it is it pretty much just from the ira you have any assets outside the ira yeah we do have other real estate holdings that were contemplating you know selling okay okay great well let me go ahead and give you answer you can listen on the off line if you want okay yeah so that's great question dan and we see this a lot with the individuals that are retiring and they have a home here they want to keep it and then they potentially looking to buy something whether it be florida south carolina a lot of folks moving at tennessee these days north carolina someplace a little warmer for for the winter and so it's a great question and but it's a it's a little bit complicated because you know if you're going to be taking any size all mountain of money out of the ira you're going to be paying taxes on that full distribution right so if you're in the six hundred thousand dollar plus amount to take out certainly the three hundred thousand you'd have to take out if you're just to pay cash for it if that's the only money you're going to be using you'd have to take out four hundred fifty five thousand dollars so certainly that approach is n i wouldn't would not work the tax situation is not gonna work probably what i would do is if there's any way to use some of your real estate holdings that you have or any other outside assets and either if you're gonna sell them or if you've got full equity in them to use some of that to pay down you know whether it be the twenty percent down payment or maybe making it thirty to use some of that you could potentially get a mortgage the only thing is getting a mortgage these days can even now can be very difficult without some decent evidence of income and if you're retiring you know depending on if you've got a pension or whatnot that evidence could be tough to come by it's amazing lotta times banks almost don't even care what you have in investment accounts they're really just looking at what what you have as far as income and so when i was just as doing a combination of taking distributions are the ira to pay for a mortgage and then using some of your real estate they have here to borrow against it or to sell to use it for the place down in florida i think you've got to kind of look at a combination like that but i certainly would say that taking it all out of the ira or even a large part is not gonna work all right folks we're gonna go to commercial break but come back and join us as we.
