"You so much. Well, from Alphabet Apple, Amazon and Google to Microsoft and meta, it was all about big tech earnings this past week. That was just like what you did there with the alliteration. Thank you very much. Yeah. Okay, there's one name you didn't say though. Which one? Pinterest. I did not work that one in. So let's see what maybe Alex has to say. Yeah, it's an important one. We got Alex barranca technology reporter for Bloomberg news. She joins us via Zoom from Los Angeles. She has been all over the earnings of the big tech firms. I want to focus on social media because it's what she covers very closely. It's a week of chaos as you write Alex, the worst performer in the S&P 500 was meta platforms, trading at around a $100 a share. We haven't seen that. Since what, 2016, I believe. At this point. But there was a bright spot in the week of chaos as you write at the end of the week. What was that bright spot? It was a bright spot and I had to talk to the man in the chief spot at that bright spot. Pinterest, as you mentioned, the platform where you can kind of find shopping inspiration or ideas for your home was the one company that surprised for the upside this week on earnings. They put out results that impressed Wall Street both on revenue and users. And I will say, there are smaller company they make around $680 million a quarter in revenue compared that to meta, who's closer to 28 billion, so they have some room to grow, but in a really dramatic week for social media stocks. I had to pick CEO Bill reedy's brain. All right, so what did you find out? He talked a lot about positivity. He's talked about, you know, and call that CEO speak, but he kind of laid out this war that's going on in social media, where everyone's kind of fighting for eyeballs for the next funny dance video to keep users around because those users are really important to advertisers. The problem with some of these platforms like meta's Facebook or Instagram or Twitter is right now those platforms, it's a lot about entertainment and there's some negativity or political fodder or throw in the next controversy. He said in his first a 120 days since he's been in that role that he's really tried to focus on, giving users a place that they know what they're going to get, they can go there for inspiration and they're not going to be bogged down by all of these other things. So that was kind of his big take as to why they think that user growth grew last quarter. They've been able to turn around some troubling times in terms of users over the past year. And why perhaps the street is a little bit excited about what they had to say. And to be fair, the perspective, I mean, Pinterest is down more than 70% from hitting a high back in February of 2021. So yeah, great bounds, no doubt about it. But I do wonder what, go ahead. Well, I was just going to ask about the way people use Pinterest, Alex, versus the way that people use these other platforms because, you know, this is a very event specific social network. You know, I'm thinking like remodeling houses or redoing your kids. Getting married. Getting married. And people have been getting married. All of a sudden, back in a big way. But how does the CEO think about making this a place where people return to over and over again rather than for one specific big life event? Yeah, and I asked him about that. And there are certain areas that they're actually starting to lean into more than just redecorating our House or figuring out how a pair of loafers can fit into an outfit. They're leaning more into things like consumer travel. He also told me that areas like finance and financial decisions and educational content around that is a place that they are pushing into. So I did think you nailed it on the head there. They're looking for a kind of times in your life where you have a certain intent that you want to seek out inspiration or information. That's what they're really pushing for. As opposed to, you know, just something you pull up when you have a few moments waiting for the train to arrive and you want to kind of fill some time in your day. So it is interesting. And I was going to say, I was curious when I was looking at the share price to just kind of putting that out Alex for some perspective, and I do wonder, though, as we look at a lot of these companies, do we have to do a bit of a reset in terms of maybe the growth models going forward because there's a lot more competing for the ad dollars or just competing for people's time. There's a lot more choices out there. There are and I think the companies were seeing kind of the manifestation of the reset that these companies have been doing. Cost cutting and rethinking headcount and narrowing down the number of projects that companies working on. That's been kind of the big theme over the past few quarters because that money from marketers isn't coming in like they thought it would. So Pinterest is the least dramatic of this moment in time and we're excited to shine that light right now, but that's not to say that there's not a tumultuous in social media at large because marketers are not spending as much. I think we did see also, you know, I think Amazon said that this holiday season might be their lightest that they've seen in a really long time. So that might continue with them, but in terms of kind of meeting or beating expectations that the street has for these companies performance. Pinterest has been the one who's actually been able to do that. Can Pinterest give us any idea of the health of the economy or am I reading too much into it? I mean, it's funny 'cause people would criticize snap by talking about macroeconomic headwinds because it is such a small player. But then a company like you said like Amazon comes out and gives guidance that does not meet expectations for the fourth quarter. Meta same thing. What can we gather from Pinterest in the way that it sees the economy? Yeah, I have to see you with a question. There's CFO was actually on the line as well. And they both kind of pointed to the fact that they think that folks will be spending on certain things like holiday decor. They looked at. They also said that there's some return to strength in consumer product goods that they're seeing interest and purchases through on the site. So those are a couple of places that they pointed to, but look, inflation is real for the consumer. So I would think that even on their platform, we continue to see some of the trends that are being talked about by the Giants like Amazon going into this holiday season. Well, a great roundup. So appreciate it, what's been a very dead week when it comes to all those big tech names, as barangka, technology reporter at Bloomberg news, joining us via Zoom from Los Angeles, but yeah, I mean, it's pretty remarkable. The companies that we heard from and so much to digest, and yet here we had a market, the bulls were back in a big way. You use pins? I don't. What about your daughter? I don't know. Yeah. So what do you do with it? We used it for our wedding. So what is it? It's just to put stuff that you're interested. Yeah, it's like a mood board. Okay. Is that what they're called dream board mood board? Thank you. I guess it's the old fashioned most important people would put exactly. It's so useful. I get it. But interesting and really some outperformance up about 14% today. This is Bloomberg. This is a Bloomberg money minute. Wall Street closed out the week with a massive rally, down industrials jumped 829, the S&P 500 climbed 94, the NASDAQ gained 310. Consumer spending remains strong last month, the government says spending rose 6 tenths of a percent. An inflation measure tied to consumer spending rose 6.2% versus last year boosting the fed's case to keep raising rates. With inflation forcing consumers to devote more of their budgets to essentials, some things may have to wait, like Botox, AbbVie says people are holding off on Botox and other aesthetic treatments, leading it to reduce its sales forecast. The NBA wants to be more than basketball, the league says it is looking to invest in startups in areas like apparel, fitness, media, merchandise, fantasy sports, then engagement and sports betting, it already has nearly 20 companies in its portfolio, Bloomberg radio. It's time for today's stem tip. Okay, you

"And the last few weeks he has displayed both those attributes I want to say. But yeah, another day, another crazy Kanye West story. Whether you want to believe it's a conspiracy is up to you, but it turns out some of what he said on the Tucker Carlson show the other night, the people at Fox decided not to air because, well, he just sounded nuttier than it should house rat. In addition to tossing the word Jew around like crazy, which you don't want to do in Hollywood, at one point, Kanye mentioned something really bizarre. He claimed that fake children were planted in his home to a manipulate his kids. North his daughter who's 9, saint his son, who is 6 chicagos, another daughter who's four and psalm is his three year old son. Tucker wasn't quite sure what he meant and Kanye explained. He said, I mean like actors, professional actors placed into my home to sexualize my kids. Once again, I don't know what Kanye means. I did on yesterday's Patreon describe how their four year old daughter Chicago in a clip on Instagram was wearing full on makeup. Including lip liner, lipstick, lip gloss, probably a little foundation. I bet a touch of mascara too. She was going out with her mommy. I believe they were gonna see the LA rams play. And sit up in a private suite, but I was immediately disgusted to see that. I understand little girls want to play makeup with mommy. But playing with makeup and applying it are two different things. This was applied makeup. And I can't stand when people sexualize children, especially nowadays with all the crazy creeps and pedophiles roaming around. So I'm on Kanye's side completely when it comes to this and judging the way the females and that family have changed their faces and body types with tons of procedures and surgeries and Botox and fillers and God knows what else they have their hands on before the rest of the world knows about it. It's very unsettling.

"Here's a male star. I don't want to give it up to. The middle Jonas brother, what is it? Is that that's Joe Jonas, right? Joe Jonas was married to selfie Turner from Game of Thrones. He decided to make a commercial, an infomercial for Botox or some kind of fellow that you put in your skin, you know, to smooth out the wrinkles and make you look younger? This little punks in his 30s wants to look younger. You know, so he's being a big advocate of Botox and filler, and even males wearing makeup. He says he's used the treatment for not only his frown lines because there's so much to be unhappy about at his age, but all the success that Jonas Brothers have had. Who the fuck has frown lines when you've been that successful? Oh God. And he has to smooth out a scar between his eyebrows. You know, big problems, guys. I mean, we all know we have problems going to work, but you know, a scar by your eyebrows, you just want to fill in those pock marks on your face. It makes everything so much better. So like I said, he films an infomercial. And it's as horrible and laughable as you think. But he hopes by speaking out about his cosmetic treatments that other man might feel comfortable doing the same. No, I don't think any young man would take any type of this advice from a Jonas brother then again, I'm probably wrong 'cause this next generation coming up is so screwed up and soft that of course they will. And Joe Jonas was quick to say, you know, I always hear people say things like, you know, men can't do this or it's weird for guys to do that and I think there's a stigma that's fading and I like that. Guys are more openly wearing makeup and it's great to see. It's like do whatever you want, you know? It's a beautiful generation that we're living in. Oh, Christ.

Even Nancy Pelosi Knows the True Definition of 'Recession'

"I want you to listen to Nancy Pelosi, the one who has a bad Botox, I want you to listen to her because she even said years ago that a recession is when you have two quarters of negative GDP, essentially. Road a clip. And so while they may have saved the second quarter from a technical definition of recession, the fact is we are now into the third quarter and we need we need to have another stimulus package. I wish somebody would do her Botox, right? 'cause she looked like she looked like she's a dead. She look like she a dead man walking.

But as I got to know you further, I think we're in your office. I said to you one day, it just wasn't buying that whole narrative that you decided you had had enough. And then you came clean. Well, you know, I've done everything you possibly can not look 82 years old. Okay, good, fine. But I knew something was wrong. And I didn't know what it was. It never occurred to me I didn't fucking good. Because I was pretty from the time I was three years old as far as I knew. And age was something that crawled up on me. I never knew anybody who was as old as I was, who had as much Botox or face lifts, or whatever the fucking word is. But I knew something was wrong at HBO, because I didn't understand why I couldn't die there and put my ashes in a box and put it on a shelf. There, why did they just have my awards everywhere? Why couldn't they keep me? Why? When I read your book, I realized I was too old, I was too old.

have been increasing our cash holdings for the funds that we've managed for our clients as well Cash is not a bad place to be And again recapping S&P down by one and a half percent I'm Charlie Pablo that is a Bloomberg business flash Thank you so much for that update Charlie pellet As I mentioned we're not quite at wedding season yet We're at what's called wedding planning season but maybe you've gotten some invitations to some long postponed weddings that are hopefully going to take place in person in the coming year Let's get into it with Tim Chi the CEO of the not worldwide It includes brands like the knot wedding wire the bump the bash and more Tim joins us on the phone from Bethesda Maryland Tim how are you I'm doing well Thanks for having me on the show Tim So give us an update on how weddings are going in 2022 Are we back to levels of pre-pandemic 2019 yet Yeah so the wedding industry is experiencing a wedding boom We just ran a recent real wedding study and they are definitely shifted have shifted back to pre-pandemic levels In fact we're expecting 2.6 million million weddings to happen this year compared to a normal 2.2 million So and what do we know about how couples have we talked about about a year ago we were talking about quote unquote revenge spending after being cooped up for so long going out and spending money on ourselves and buying ourselves things I'm wondering if we're seeing that reflected when it comes to weddings as well We are So a couple of points there First confidence for couples is very high right now 75% of couples who got engaged in 2021 have already set their date in 2022 And unlike 2020 when the pandemic hit where most weddings were postponed only a small percentage of couples need to change their wedding day right now What's that translating to is pent up demand to get back and celebrate with families and friends So we are seeing spend tick up as well Average guest counts are going up And even guess themselves who are really anxious and excited to be able to get back in friends and family are willing to spend more Our recent survey indicated that 90% of guests that are planning to attend upcoming weddings are willing to spend more than they normally would How are these weddings different than pre-pandemic I think back to the one wedding that I've been to during the pandemic It was in June of 2021 It was that short period of time the two months where I think everybody in the United States felt like we were on the other side of this pandemic before the delta variant hit And there were still changes there Every event we did was outside and fortunately a weather was good but they had permanent tense set up that made me that gave me the impression Hey we're going to be doing outdoor weddings for a long time Well certainly there's the regulation aspect around what can and can't be done from a social gathering perspective in travel as well That largely is trending in a very positive direction here in the U.S. The other thing though that we don't expect to change anytime soon is just a couple's sentiment around health and safety right 80% 81% of couples will still at implement at least one health and safety measure on their wedding day hand sanitizer requiring staff to wear masks in a really thinking about their guests and how to make the event safe for all I'm wondering what you can tell us about the other brands included in the not worldwide I think a lot of people are familiar with the not and perhaps get into the not worldwide family of brands through the knot But you also include boat us in Latin America hitched the bump the bash how they asked and more in the not worldwide family of brands How do you keep people who find out about you through the knot How do you stay with them throughout different milestones in their lives Sure So thank you for asking that question I mean first of all did not worldwide is a portfolio of companies right Then we offer digital wedding wedding planning resources and all in one wedding planning for lots of couples all around the world In fact we're active in 16 countries So some of those brands like Botox and matrimonio that you mentioned are similar versions of the knot brand but in Spain in Latin throughout Latin America Europe Asia as well And then for some of our other brands as well like you mentioned the bump that's one of the leading sites for expecting parents as well What we really do and think about here at the not worldwide is just how can we help in our mission really at centers just to really help couples navigate life's most important moments and we have a lot of brands that support that Tim I got to ask about the future of the company this is a company that people might be familiar with from when it was XO group I publicly held company It's now a private company What's the future of the not worldwide staying private going public Yeah so right now all options are on the table for us Just to give you a little bit of sense we're sort of north of 300 million annually in revenue we've been growing profitably for many consecutive years now So just we think about financing opportunities.

Dear Prudence, I Miss My Wife’s Face

"The subject is. I miss my wife's face my wife and i have been married for nearly twenty five years and we're both in our late forties in the last few years many of her friends who started getting plastic surgery or talks and face villers. I was a bit surprised when my wife expressed interest but felt. It's her face in her. Perogative occasional botox injections which in my opinion look great have now graduated to regular fillers. I hate it. My wife doesn't look. She looks like she's had work done. She's thrilled with how she looks in any gentle comment. I've made is met with the accusation that i'm focusing on her appearance and not supporting her freedom to make choices. Basically that i'm anti-feminist. I loved her face when it moved. I don't wanna kiss her inflated lips this is killed our sex life but the other day fourteen year old daughter made a comment about wondering when her mother would start expecting her to get botox. I'm fed up and don't know how to talk to my wife about this. Yes i support her right to make her own decisions. But i feel like i also have the right to not like it. I don't want my daughter to think about doing this. As part of her freedom of choice please help.

"This episode is brought to you by do edit. Something you guys may not know about me is that i'm kind of a hair influencers. And by hair. I mean top buns with scrunches. Do at it was created by tv personality and top podcast or kaitlyn bristowe and her longtime business partner and friend cleo daily live as a top bun and scrunchy connoisseur. I feel like i could really speak to this product and give you my honest review. One thing i noticed right away with the do at it's crunchy. Is that the band on. The inside of the scrunchy is much thicker and wider than a typical scrunchy. So you know how a typical hair tie is like a round loop the band inside the do at its crunchies are thicker. It's kind of like you know those bands that you find around broccoli at the grocery store the really thick red bands. It's like that but obviously it's the material that you would use for a hair tie so with other scrunchy brands. I find my hair falls out quickly. And i'm constantly redoing my top gun throughout the day but with the do at it thick band on the inside stays up. It's it's a very powerful topgun. Do prioritizes sustainability by sourcing environmentally friendly packaging and working with ethical local factories to support our economies. The best they can right here in north america. They also carry face masks. Which are you know. The accessory.

First Dream Chaser mission slips to 2022

"Dream chaser has also now slipped to two thousand twenty two so all of the twenty twenties or now slipping to the twenty twenty two range and this is for cargo flights to the s. They have the actual space plane portion of dream chaser. And then they've got. I think they call it the shooting star module that is attached to the back of the plane. That actually is thing that docks to the space station carries a lot of cargo though. Bigger report would carry the solar panels as well. It's kind of like service module that can also contain a pressurized volume and. I've heard that. Dan has been a major area of focus because they also have some department advanced contracts related to that or some maybe investigations around what they do with that kind of module. So there've been some technical issues. They blamed it on covid. Which as i said. That certainly contributes a factor. Because you've got to change operation so much out. There have been some unspecified technical issues there now. This isn't a huge deal because we've seen such a big slip in commercial crew as we talk about on a recent show that the game kind of change there for the is s every year that slipped there the needs for the assess cargo. Manifest are a little bit different. So i think at this point. Now that we're getting into regular crew rotations that's going to become more and more important But we'll see how the dream chaser program shakes out. What is problematic there. It has a knock on effect that could potentially progress problematic to volkan for united launch alliance. Volkan one part of the national security space launch program. So they have to have that thing. Certified in time to launch their first mission in two thousand twenty two the first mission as part of that national security program their first mission right now is slated for twenty twenty one with volkan and that would be launching astro botox lander to the moon. They say that they are still on time to fly. That mission in two thousand twenty. One obviously dependent on astro botox schedule as well. But that second flight would have been the dream chaser mission to the assess. They need to flights before. They're certified to fly national security missions so if they don't have a dream chaser flight to fly in late two thousand twenty one. They either need to fly empty with a demonstrator mass or something like that. They need to find another customer. Hell could they give away the launch to make sure they have someone there so that they're certified in time for that first national security mission. That is a big question mark

Dream Boy And The Poison Fans

"By the time that Emily Fangs reporting this story in March, the controversy around this actor at already gotten so hot that many of his fans refused to talk to a reporter others asked to speak in ways that would not reveal their true identities. NPR, by the way has very strict standard on this, you have to reasonably expect harm to your person or livelihood, and they met the standard there been retributive attacks and death threats. But we're GONNA start our story before all that back when Xiaojun was getting more endorsements than almost any idol in China is twenty eight tall and thin with Pale skin big eyes and understand the role he played in Chinese pop culture. You can look to the TV ads that were scripted with his image in mind. Mike Emily showed me this ad for Esti Lipstick So it starts in this. Hotel lobby most is really warm. Golden Sojourn appears the top of the staircase. He looks down and sees one beautiful woman in the crowd. She looks quite unsure of herself. He, sees this woman. And he can tell you quickens his steps who walks down the staircase briskly and it looks like he's about to approach her. But instead he grabbed golden balloon and he sends it her way with a package attached. The balloon didn't inside is surprise and estee louder lipstick which puts on an all of a sudden. She has confidence she struts out and she takes position on stage in front of a microphone. And you sojourn the crowd, he begins to clap for her and everyone else begins to clap her. As the woman smiles. They're selling the image of him as someone who helps others and to as helper of beauty he's too good to be human. But he's always there helping others be their best selves. Really Shapes. Shenzhen's millions of fans. See Him looks very clean. Looks. Very decent. He looks very gentle. This is an we're calling by her initials is E. IMA passer. Yes life I have never seen someone look at it. Is. E is thirty years old married. and. She was about to become the mother when I talked to her. So she has not the typical style Jonathan? Savage John Fans are usually single women young teenagers, teenagers likely in middle school or high school is e says that. This kind of connector to her friends because they always have something to talk about show. Good looks. And also there is a another reason is because I feel when people are pursuing I'll say when they're Authorian cert- can kind of celebrity they must have fun something in the celebrity that way don't have our self. So is he describes herself as very frank, a very frank and outspoken person maybe even a little harsh and one of the things she ended these most in South Asia is his gentleness so that I feel that is something I want to learn from him because John is portrayed a sweet person. He also needs protection because that gentleness can be taken advantage of in his fans need to. Be the ones who stand up for him here is where China's Fan Culture and actually Asian Fan Culture in general it kind of veers away from even the most intense fan behavior in the West because a lot of fancy it as their job, even their responsibility, not just to admire their idol and to support him but to go so much further. So is he talks about how in these? Media groups, some of which will have hundreds of thousands of followers. Each there are something called a child Wa. So sopra topic, what's called Super Topic or Toha, and which some of the lead fans who devote hours a day to organizing this fans structure, we'll give orders to. Fans beneath them about what they need to achieve for that day. So today, we're all going to click on this one music video and watch it or today we're all going to buy products from this brand because they've signed an endorsement deal with children. Say the broadcaster from the Child Watt who say today when you to do this today when you to do that so you remember that Estee Lauder ad for lipstick according to Chinese media estee Lauder Botox, pitched show in two thousand eighteen sold out not only within the first day of their release but within the first. Hour. Totalling almost six million dollars in sales, and then back on the fan club sites, fans would celebrate what they saw as their success. It's IMMA fine. You want to support your idol by making here she gets the most brand endorsements and makes the most money on behalf of these companies. I get I get what Xiaojun gets out of this he gets. And success money what fans get out of making him. So successful by being particularly influential fan of Superfan you also get a lot of power and influence the majority of his fans are going to be. Young girls in their middle school or high school years. So in real life, they're not going to have a lot of power in Chinese society. But by being a part of this fan group, you become part of this very powerful commercial

Hair Loss, Stress, and At-Home Treatments to Regrow Your Hair

"If you've been noticing more clumps of hair in the shower that could be a result of stress But we don't want to stress you out more because there are things you can do. Look I lost his little Patrick here. Living proof ride here but there are things that you can do right now at home to help that And one of the first things. We'RE GONNA START TODAY. We've got a wonderful guest She is a Harrisburg and she's actually know working with Bosley which I thought was just for men. But he educator there and What's so great is that she cleared up. A lot of the MISC- The misconceptions I had about Knoxville as everyone knows what Doxa Gul's the only thing that has been approved by the FDA that actually does regret hair and is active with the minoxidil though Is that something you know? Just speaking as a not a hair professional It's something that I've heard about right. Rogaine is another big brand that you hear about and I have a girlfriend who had significant hair loss. And that's what she was using. But it meant hawks ultimate always been a little bit scary right so is that other people should not be using or is it something. That's pretty safe for everyone. So there's a two different percentages on it. There's a two percent and a five percent. Typically the women use the two percents and the men used the five percent so You Wanna be able to Access that lower percentage If you feel necessary and then you can like start in slowly but I do recommend that you use at the same time every day And it's just like he would try to think about taking care of any other Any other area of your body. I mean you won't stop brushing your teeth with a certain kind of toothpaste. If you have great results from that so Ryan I mean but you get what I'm saying like do you think like pregnant woman shouldn't use yet so and doesn't make your hair fall out at first a little bit too? Can't that be an effect or am I totally wrong about this. Maybe I'm totally off. I'm sure one out of one thousand. Maybe it fell out but maybe he or she skipped a day or like you said didn't put it on at the same time at the same Torino at like. If you break your routine with these systems you can have a shed you absolutely can but is this something you think. Everybody should be using then. I'm even if it's like the hair. He knew it. If you're if you're like fresh out of Chemo and you just grew your new hair back now. Right no right right right. If you think you're going to get pregnant or you're infertility. No I mean it's kind of common sense. If you have other health issues you should obviously talk to your physician and throw that against the wall but I think majority of people can give it a whirl and just but if you're if you second guesses talk with your doctor so what is that program. Is it like once you start is it. You have to just keep doing it. Is it like a man which we know a lot of beauty things right like if you want Bo talks? You're going to have to keep doing botox to keep the wrinkles away if you want those eyelash extensions. You're going to need to keep doing them. The second you're not gonNA have those lashes if you want hair extensions so is this another thing that you're going to sort of add to your beauty toolkit but it's like once you start to commit to it. Yes if you're seeing results from it you definitely want to keep doing so Hair has three cycles. Everybody's familiar with you. Know Antigen intelligent and Cata Jen. So when you're in the resting phase During that phase. That's the time that you want to make sure that you're speeding up that process when that new hair growth is starting to come back in and you also want to keep the hair that you have so you're definitely trading from a clinical approach. She knows that hair follicle and you're waking up and speeding up that rusting cycle where that new hair can come back and through so you're seeing results in your getting hair growth. You definitely want to eat using that. So somebody WHO's been bald for thirty years all the back And that her follicle is no longer producing hair. Are you going to get results from Minoxidil? Maybe not so that definitely you WANNA wake up that hair follicle and you WANNA speed up that process for that new hair to come back through. How do you feel about the the caps or the headbands with the red light therapy? Your what's your what's your take on those those are showing a lot of promise and those also There's lots of before and after she now that are online. So it's one of those things it's like you know what works for one person may not necessarily work for all if you know works for the majority and if it works for you definitely keep doing it. You have to be insisted on that you have to use it. You know. Every single day In addition to the other three sixteen approach that you're doing I personally noticed when I combined all three. Wow it was the trio of fact for
